Book Description
This beautiful four-color book opens the eyes of women to see themselves the way God sees them. Many don't even know that they are daughters of the King - chosen to be His Princess. Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, they trade in their fairy-tale dreams of being cherished for a tarnished identity fashioned by their own insecurities and the mixed-up messages of the media. Now, these tenderly adoring letters written from God's persepective demonstrate that every woman is beautiful just the way she is. Walking in confidence toward her God-given purpose, every woman can bless others - even future generations.

Thanks a lot, we are very happy to have this book in our library!
A very good Book........2006-11-10
I took this book because it was told to me by my professor to purchase it.
But after reading its content I feel its really worth buying this book.
Excellent Read.......2006-02-11
This book is written in such a style that is easy to understand, yet technical and detailed enough to maintain your interest and attention all the way through.
The book presents several ways of accomplishing the same tasks in a non-biased, non-vendor-specific way. It explores the use of free, open-source tools as well as commercial offerings, and drills down into forensic analysis of both Windows and Unix/Linux Operating Systems.
The included CD contains actual forensic data and a few tools, which is both interesting and exciting to use while following along with the lessons in the book.
After receiving this book and opening it to the first page, I was almost unable to set it down until I finished it. I received it on a Friday afternoon and I had completed reading it by the end of the weekend. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Computer or Network Security.
This one is a keeper!.......2006-01-27
As an author and instructor, I tend to be pretty picky about the books I choose to read and use in my classes. The authors present the material in a good logical progression. I especially like that it also provides sample evidence on the DVD. Most of the computer forensic books that currently exist contain mostly theory. This is the first good hands-on text that I have seen.
The authors have captured a good cross section of scenarios and then guide you through each case in-depth, offering practical solutions when faced with obstacles. The content provides methodologies, techniques, and tools that anyone can use. In addition it covers a variety of media such as USB memory and Palm devices.
This is a book that I will definitely keep. It is one of the best forensic investigations books currently on the market and would be a great asset to anyone wishing to enhance their skills.
An essential A-Z guide for forensic investigations.......2005-12-07
There is a real lack of well written books in this category, and this one stands out because it is comprehensive, yet easy to digest and carefully laid out, including case studies to understand data capture and analysis techniques.
The progression of the chapters mirror an investigative process; there is discussion of how to properly handle digital evidence, how to make a duplicate of the source data, and how to make sense of what you have collected. There are many real-world type case studies in the beginning of the book that could easily read off the front of any newspaper, and the captured evidence is on the included DVD for you to search to find the "smoking gun". Very well done.
The book takes the unusual role of discussing not only the more popular commercial tools like EnCase or Forensic Tool Kit, but also all the open source tools available for free, which is a real plus if you don't have the deep pockets required for the retail products. The book also does an excellent job of explaining the advantages and shortcomings of all the products discussed, something not often seen in technical books. Along with the open source discussion are source web sites for downloading the tools. The accompanying DVD is packed with stuff to get you started. The book is filled with well illustrated screen shots to help you orient yourself when trying the programs yourself.
Be forewarned, this book assumes a pretty reasonable amount of technical knowledge and while it addresses the commercial products available on the Win32 platform, a lot of tools and utilities referenced are written for Linux. While a novice investigator can certainly find value in the book, there is a lot of "meat" that even a seasoned professional will find useful.
This is definitely the best book currently available on data forensic investigations.

Producing Great Sound for Digital Video educates beginning and experienced filmmakers on the intricacies of creating an outstanding soundtrack, from preproduction planning through the final mix.
The entire book is fascinating: it's absolutely packed with useful information and tips. Most of us remember learning in high school physics that sound travels about 1,100 feet per second, but besides gauging the location of a lightning bolt from how long it takes for the thunder to reach our ears, we never found it useful. Imagine, however, shooting a scene from about 90 feet away with a camera-mounted microphone. In this scenario, the audio will lag behind the image by about three frames--not much, but it's certainly noticeable. The problem gets worse as the distance increases. The workaround is to put a microphone next to the subject or slide the audio track so that it syncs with the images.
The book presents other solutions to showstopping problems that, because of lack of experience, a filmmaker wouldn't realize until getting to the editing room. Other critical issues such as preproduction planning, the art of production and recording (including environmental factors and microphone setups), and post-production editing and effects are also discussed.
The advent of low-cost, high-quality video production equipment has ushered in the birth of AV producers and AV presenters who have grand intentions but negligible experience. Digital cameras, inexpensive computers capable of capturing and playing back high-quality digital video, and full-featured editing software offer all kinds of ways to create visual eye candy, but embryonic filmmakers don't always realize that the picture is only half the story. Producing Great Sound for Digital Video explains how the other half works, what to watch out for, and how to achieve professional results. --Mike Caputo

Great Book.......2007-01-19
for anyone that wants to have a professional approach to digital video this is a good book.
If you only buy one book on sound.. This is it.......2006-09-09
Where do I start? In a nutshell, this book *IS* the only book to have on sound if your only buying one. No lie. My background... 20 years ago I used to be the "The Amp Dr" fixing commercial PA systems, amps, etc. I have a much better background on sound than most, I was an electrical engineer after that, designing power supplies, and other analog interfaces to digital equipment. Most of that has been dormant for the last 20 years, but I recently decided to make documentaries, and as two of my first projects deal with music, sound seemed pretty important. I got several books on sound, I figure buy six, one has to be good. You can save your money, this book was the one in six.
Knowing audio but NOT audio for video, one of the most important things I discovered is that a professional quality product (video) can only be made with good sound.. If you think you $2 -$10K pro-sumer camera is going to deliver it with the standard mic turn on "auto level", you're really wrong. Half of good sound is the absence of sound, or at least the absence of unintended sound. Insuring good sound is more work than it sounds, but the quality and impact of what I am shooting now is significantly better than before. Otherwise, its' all like home videos, maybe pretty shots and cleverly edited, but still seems like home videos. It all becomes much clearer after reading this book.
When I picked up this book, it was a mental orgasm. Not only does this guy know his stuff, even more importantly, he knows how to communicate it. The way it was written, I was easily able to skip over the stuff I didn't want to review, and go straight for the meat. It is meaty. Almost EVERYTHING I wanted to know was here. I did end up going back just to see how he explained the basics.. great! One of the things I liked about his style, is some authors will tell you something is bad or wrong, with no explanation.. Jay give you good examples.. the CD recording with the book is worth it's weight in , he give examples of proper recording and bad recording (with explanations). You can actually hear it as oppose to read an explanation and take it on faith. Borrow money if you have too.. but buy it.
My message to Jay:
If you read this Jay, I have a few requests. (1) Don't let this book go out of date. Please do you SNR and distortion measurements on some of the new HD cameras. Given the bit resolution is now even less with HDV (12 bits (HDV) vs 16 bits (DV)), I think dual systems are even more important to cover in greater detail. (2) Update with some of the new digital recorders that are replacing DATs (3) Thanks for a great book!
A rare 'how to' book that delivers actual content!.......2006-01-05
I've often been taken in by large reference books that promise to be a comprehensive guide to a subject, but turn out to be a lot of filler (screen shots of PC applications, or an excuse for the author to give lots of less-than-useful anectodal stories, etc.)
Not so with Jay Rose's 'Producing Great Sound for Digital Video' book. This informative guide covers a lot of ground, including sound theory, equipment explanations and use, and techniques for sound production including NLE tips, audio mixing, mic use etc. The great thing about this book is it is written with the expectation that your sound production values should be professional, but it's still accessible to hobbyists and those on a budget.
While I think novices to the field of sound engineering (like myself) probably benefit most from this work, I think a lot of the material here is useful to the video production community as a whole. I learned a lot from this, great work.
A Top Resource for Anyone who does Serious DV Recording.......2005-04-23
This book is a top shelf resource. It is useful to both novices and those with more experience. Starting with the very basics, and that does involve some physics, it works its way through virtually all aspects of sound production for digital video.
Do not be fooled. You are not going to learn much to improve the built in recording that comes with your camera. The author is unapologetic in his broad condemantion of the built-in stuff in terms of both quality and usablility. He goes into the reasons and gives a bit of advice on making the most of what you have but this is not what the book is about. Instead, it is about exactly what the title claims. Unfortunately, this is seldom if ever achieved with the built in stuff.
After going over some of the basics of sound and recording, different types of equipment are described in terms of suitability to task and cost. After that, the actual use of this equipment is considered in a variety of situations. The book is not just concerned with equipment and its use, however. There are chapters on editing and even on the use of prefessional talent. In short, the assumption is that you want to get good quality audio for your video production. The author then describes how to do exactly that in a variety of settings. Unfortuately, doing the job sometimes takes a bit more effort than just pushing the record button on the camera. It also take a bit more money although it does not have to take a great deal more. It depends on what type of sound is needed and how you are going to use it.
If all you want is to catch the background sound in a home video, spend your money on something else. If you want to learn how to get the best possible sound for your particular need and preserve that sound to use with video, you need this book.
You will understand sound after this book.......2005-03-02
Audio is really important, and this book will make sure you get incredible sound at every shoot. I really recommend this book!
Book Description
I've divorced better men than you. And worn more expensive shoes than these. So don't think placing this ad is the biggest comedown I've ever had to make. Sensitive F, 34.
Employed in publishing? Me too. Stay the hell away. Man on the inside seeks woman on the outside who likes milling around hospitals guessing the illnesses of out-patients. 30-35. Leeds.
They Call Me Naughty Lola is a testament to the creativity and humor that can still be found among men and women longing for love and allergic to the concepts of Internet and speed dating. Here is an irresistible collection of the most brilliant and often absurd personal ads from the world's funniest -- and most erudite -- lonely-hearts column. The ads have been called "surreal haikus of the heart," and in an age of false advertising, the men and women who write them are hindered neither by high expectations nor by positivism of any kind. And yet, while hopes of finding a suitable mate remain low, the column has produced a handful of marriages, many friendships, and at least one divorce.
Here are the young, old, fat, bald, healthy, ill, rich, and poor hoping that they can find true love, or at the very least, someone to call them Naughty Lola.

What a cute coffee table book!.......2007-09-28
I absolutely adore this book. I keep it at work sometimes and read the ads to my co-workers to brighten up our day. They are absolutely hilarious! This is a really funny coffee table book - great for conversation.
Insubstantial, but fun........2007-06-14
There's not a lot to this book, but it's an amusing read.
Disappointing.......2007-05-18
I read about this book in Entertainment magazine and purchased it right away. Unfortunately, I had misunderstood what it was about. It is a collection of personal ads that appeared in the London Review of Books; they are all written by people intentionally trying to be funny. Most of the ads are extremely self-deprecating to the point of being depressing. As someone who reads personal ads regularly to find the funny ones, I found this book disappointing. Maybe the British humor is lost on me, but I would suggest just sticking to your local personals for a real laugh.
Lonely Hearts Equal Endless Laughs.......2007-05-07
What can I say other than this book makes me laugh so hard that my ribs ache. The humor is dry, the personal ads are as precise as haiku, and nobody seems to be taking themselves too seriously. Well, maybe the "beardy physicist" who provided the ad from which the title was taken, but certainly not the parade of loners who have not forgotten that humor is the most powerful aphrodesiac of all.
Nobody's funnier than people.......2007-04-15
The carefully crafted little gems collected in this book are no doubt the cream of the crop, and thanks to Mr. Rose for doing the skimming. I have to wonder, though, if clever self deprecation can lead to successful relationships if what the authors write about themselves is true.

Book Description
Kimchi and calamari. It sounds like a quirky food fusion of Korean and Italian cuisine, and it's exactly how Joseph Calderaro feels about himself. Why wouldn't an adopted Korean drummer—comic book junkie feel like a combo platter given:
(1) his face in the mirror
(2) his proud Italian family.
And now Joseph has to write an essay about his ancestors for social studies. All he knows is that his birth family shipped his diapered butt on a plane to the USA. End of story. But what he writes leads to a catastrophe messier than a table of shattered dishes—and self-discovery that Joseph never could have imagined.

Couldn't put it down!.......2007-05-21
Kimchi and Calamari provided great entertainment and insight for me and my two teenage aged daughters. The characters are real, the plot engaging and heartwarming, and the interaction between the characters are as real and funny as in my own home. Kent's ability to draw analogies using food make the book come alive while providing life lessons. The book works for all ages, nationalities and family situations!
Wonderful Book.......2007-05-18
Kimchi and Calamari was a wonderful book! I sat down one night around 10, and did not go to sleep until I finished it! I loved Kimchi and Calamari because it reminded me....a resident of NJ, growing up as a Korean Adoptee, and being an adoptee in today's world. I was brought up in an semi-Italian family, however, we never ate Calamari! Not only did I understand what Joseph was going though, but being a Jersey Girl, I loved the fact that the book takes place in NJ, and I also understood the few references to NJ humor.
Kimchi and Calamari is truly a real life story, written from the heart.
This book is the bomb!.......2007-05-17
I just finished reading "Kimchi and Calamari" and I just think that this book is really something special. Kent has crafted a great story here, a book that'll stick with you not just because it's well-written and Joseph is a great character, but because it's fun to follow him along for the ride when he goes through the trials and tribulations of coming of age. The food component is great too-- I practically needed to go out to Carrabba's after reading about the many tasty dishes being served up. Also, it's worth mentioning that Nash Potato is just a great character -- what a good friend and funny too! Can a Nash Potato spin-off sequel be far away? For all of us, let's hope not. Anyways, this bildungsroman is a great first time out for Kent, and she deserves lots of kudos for her first book. I look forward to reading more from this up and coming new author.
Kimchi and Calamari for Everyone!.......2007-04-20
I got my hands on an advance copy and had the opportunity to read Kimchi and Calamari before it hit the shelves. If you've bothered to read this Amazon listing all the way down to here, you probably already know that the book is about a boy who was adopted from Korea and his struggles with self-identity. It would be really easy to say the book is great for adoptive families. It would be easy to say the book is great for asian-americans or italian-americans or multi-racial families or whatever.
However, that would be selling this book short. It would be keeping this book out of the hands of the thousands of others who could be enjoying it simply for the fact that it is one great story. Rose Kent does a great job telling the tale of Joseph, and his travails through the school year. This is a book that should be on everyone's reading list.
A Great Read Aloud for Classrooms and Families.......2007-04-19
Rose Kent's new novel, Kimichi & Calamari, is an excellent book on the topic of cultural identity. It tells the story of Joseph, a young boy who was adopted from Korea by an Italian American family. The catalyst for Joseph's struggles is a geneology report assigned in school. We watch as Joseph tries to find a way to fake his way through the report by choosing to write about a famous Korean athelete and pass him off as his ancestor. Along the way his curiousity about his actual birth family grows which leads him to some interesting places.
It is easy to fall in love with Joseph and feel for the predicament he finds himself in. This book would make a great read aloud and discussion book to use with kids in the intermediate grades because the language, setting, and identity struggles are so authentic. Kent manages to teach us all about the struggles of children who are adopted without sounding preachy or condescending. Families formed through adoption should definitely buy this book for Joseph's insight into being adopted alone. Even children who are not adopted can benefit from seeing that they are not alone in asking the age old question "Who am I?". Buy this book!
Customer Reviews:
Very well written.......2007-09-21
The books are very interesting even though they are written for children. I have never expected from Madonna something like this.
The Cry of Spiritual Side of the Material Girl.......2007-07-02
This is a super-cute collection and well worth the bucks to buy in the boxed set. I'm one of the jealous Madonna fans who loves to hate her. A fan since Madonna first hit the scene, I never liked her (because I always wanted to BE her). Consequentially, once upon a time Madonna became more than just obnoxious: she's stinking-richie. She's out there, doing the Mrs. Ritchie thing. Ritchie-Rich-Rich!! So I seldom, if ever, purchase anything in the form of a new Madonna product. Lucky for her? she was able to hire state-of-the-art-illustrators to create these little books, which are comforting... Especially when the only thing you can afford is toast. If you like well-made, pretty childrens books, a plus. A percentage of the purchase goes to help poor orphans, and that's cool. Madonna should keep doing more of that kind of stuff (helping people with the money she enmasses). It's true she had her daughter, Lola, going around to schools reading these books as part of her allowance and/or Mom's perceived ritchie-rich duties of the child to some semi-interested or adoring public. (Poor kid. But the drama of it all must be what memories are made of.) These books have a sentimental quality that reminds one, Madonna is a person. An icon, yes, but also a human being. Yet it seems Madonna has had to pay-off every single person in her life. So these books portray an attitude of someone who wants to overcome that (buying people's love and/or pleasing and controlling them with money). She does it by dedicating the books to members of her immediate family and Husband Ritchie... They are a bit of a cry for help I feel. Madonna would love to be remembered for more than just physical things; but wouldn't we all?
Madonna's Five Books For Children.......2007-03-09
These books are also for grown ups. The illustrations and life lessons are so enjoyable. I'm saving up for a set to donate to our school library.
Loved the books!.......2006-03-16
Great stories for kids and beautiful illustrations that my daughter and I really enjoyed!! Great collection for any young girl or boy.
Written Beautifully and inspires children.......2006-01-29
I purchased these books for my 6 and 8 year old nieces, and they absolutely adore them. I read the books with them, and they are wonderful. The illustrations are breath taking as well. All the books carry a positive message and teach young kids how to deal with sittuations they will go through in life on day. A definite proof that Madonna has taken a step foward with her life. Wonderful job, love them.

not too good to be true.......2007-05-10
Out of all the children's books Madonna has written, this was my LEAST favorite. However - just like the rest of her books the illustrations are beautiful and the story teaches a lesson.
Despicable, uninspired propaganda.......2007-03-19
Well, I finally purchased something at amazon, and now I too can write a review. I note the warning to "focus your comments on the product." Which is, I admit, a fair request, but with this series of books (this one being the newest), the review must include things other than the product itself.
These books are vanity projects. No publisher which respects the special significance of a children's book should allow this monster, Madonna, anywhere near such things. The reviews for the other books in this series tend to be comprised of two camps: Madonna's feckless fans, ecstatic over the release of any new "product," and the small percentage of the population which encounters the books by accident, with the latter category almost unanimous in their condemnation of these "works."
Madonna is a person who happened to be in the right place at the right time, and had enough sense to decide to exploit herself to make a dollar over the last twenty years. And, because she was a willing participant, that makes her a genius to some of you. Not to me.
Outside of her catchy pop songs, which even I enjoy for the fluff they are, Madonna has made the bones of her career out of a ceaseless parade of cheap stunts, almost always involving sex. Her body of work which has made her a celebrity has almost nothing to do with music, and everything to do with reckless and clumsy titillation. The last three times Madonna caught our attention, she was pouring hot candle wax on a man's genitals in the terrible film Body of Evidence, hanging naked from chains in an S&M club in her Sex book, and hanging from a mirrored disco cross while wearing a crown of thorns to open her most recent tour.
The reason why she is producing these books is not to improve the quality of children's material, nor is it to raise money for charity, as she is already so wealthy it matters not if she receives so much as one penny from these sales. If she wants to donate to charity, she can always sell one of her castles.
The reason she is doing this is to shovel her sick, twisted view of life straight down the throats of the most impressionable members of society. The books exist to introduce children to her name, so that they may remember her, and then go on to discover her life's work, which is nothing but greed, self-exploitation, and depravity.
The books themselves provide Madonna with the thrill of being famous and talked about, which is worth more to her than money, as she already has plenty of money. The books are not good. It is well understood that if a non-celebrity were to submit these projects, they would be rejected. However, due to her name, they will sell. Madonna then takes that as some kind of indication that her work has triumphed, as you can tell, as the self-serving introduction to this newest book indicates.
I could go on, at length, but briefly: Madonna moralizes, but she had her daughter, Lourdes, sired from a brief encounter with a man she admits she no longer has anything to do with. She points the finger over money, but is herself a supremely wealthy person who lives a lavish, materialistic lifestyle. She preaches humility, yet contrary to the tradition of children's books, she denies credit on the books' covers to the artists who illustrate them.
You could not ask for a more repulsive and hypocritical role model. She is a [...] actress who sings, and is the last among us who should be writing children's books. If you have not gone mad, I would suggest that you purchase any one of the many, many wonderful children's books available, or take the time to play with your child and write one together just for fun.
Do not, under any circumstances, buy these books, unless it is for a gag gift, and only then, do so only if you can be guaranteed it will be burned to ashes in less than an hour after the joke is over, lest the damn things find their way into a library or a school.
To reiterate: These books are vanity projects and garbage, meant to indoctrinate children into Madonna's wretched life philosophy. Avoid every one of them, and when you get the chance, do us all a favour, and destroy them.
Awful.......2007-02-27
Anyone remember when she deep throated that bottle in her documentary? Yeah, I remember thinking, "Someday I hope to buy a childrens' book from her." And yeah, the book is as uninspiring as her others.
yogagirl5117.......2007-02-13
Either I am having a "that time of the month moment" or I am just an emotional person but this video did make me cry. We saw a different side of Madonna. I saw from her true sincerity since no one in Malawi knows MADONNA: POP ICON/QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. Once you travel to a third world nation either in Africa, Asia (as I have) the word "culture shock" does not prepare you. It's the commitment you make while you are there and the therapy you NEED to seek when you return to a developed nation in Europe, North America or South America. I have a new respect for Madonna. I hope this documentary though when it comes out is NOT all about her mission but the plight of the Malawians!
