Book Description
The most accessible book on the ancient Indian system of Ayurvedic nutrition and healing, from an internationally acclaimed practitioner.
Many of us who struggle with one-size-fits-all fad diets are realizing that the only program that can promise lasting benefits is a comprehensive yet individualized approach to nutrition and weight loss. This is the very attitude espoused by Ayurvedic medicine, the 5,000-year-old holistic system that incorporates diet, exercise, breathing, meditation, visualization, and other therapies into its practice. Perfect Balance illustrates how the principles of Ayurvedic medicine can be used by anyone, no matter what their present health needs may be.
Beginning with a self-test to determine an individual's specific metabolic and psychological profile, the book emphasizes the importance of balance among all levels of the healing process-mind, body, and spirit. The three dominant groups that emerge are based on metabolic type (skin, hair, digestion, sleep patterns, etc.) and psychological characteristics (emotional tendencies, learning patterns, goals, and relationship needs). It then presents clear guidelines for selecting foods and making lifestyle choices to support a natural, healthy state and avoiding those practices that disrupt natural metabolic balance.
Perfect Balance offers a profile-specific, flexible "21-Day Plan" to integrate dietary and lifestyle changes sensibly. It explains the importance of timing and food combinations and outlines nutritional prescriptions for particular conditions caused by stress and other lifestyle issues. Most important, the Ayurvedic approach takes into account the many factors often ignored by other programs, which ultimately determine an optimal state of harmony and health for each individual. Notes. Index.

Vegan Help?.......2003-05-02
Although I found this book to be easy to read and the test to be thorough enough to determine my body type, I had a really hard time figuring out how to adapt to it, since the diet prescribed was not vegan. I don't know, maybe I can't be vegan and practice ayurveda?
Ayurveda.......2002-12-15
I was truly disappointed in this book. I bought it so that I could understand Ayurveda, but this writter discounts the true principles. He refers to Vata, Pita and Kapha as Body Types A,B and C. I think he should call it by the proper names and not try to take shortcuts. It is not a well written book on the subject. If you are interested in Ayurveda, I highly recommend Deepak Chopra's "Perfect Health". Not only does Chopra cover the topic completely, his book is inspiring. Perfect Balance is unrealistic. It recommends that people take teaspoons of spices and herbs daily. While the true way of following Ayurveda is to cook with the spices and herbs in the food. I do not recommend this book. It has some helpful information, but not enough. Why read more then one book on the subject? Deepak Chopra's book covers it all and he also has a website that offers Ayurveda products.
A brain friendly Ayurvedic gem!.......2001-09-06
Ever been really interested in Ayurvedic principles of nutrition but the reading material that you come across is very heavy, and only ends up confusing you more before you even started to research the topic? Well this is the book for you! Atreya once again provides a book on Ayurveda that is easy to read and understand. How does he do this you may ask? Ayurveda is one of the many Vedic sciences that have been gifted to us through the insight of the Rishis and sages of the past. Thus being a Vedic science its foundations are the roots of Vedic philosophy, and the language and terms used are that of Sanskrit. To one not common with the philosophy and Sanskrit terms, reading material that refers to these in order to explain the science can be very confusing and become too heavy a lesson to be able to mentally digest. This is where Atreya shines. Although fully conversant with the science and its original spoken and written form of Sanskrit, Atreya provides tools that first explain the original form then provides an alternative way of remembering the meaning without having to use or learn Sanskrit. Perfect Balance is a thorough insight into the principles of Ayurvedic nutrition and its practice. Its contents cover a vast spectrum, from "Classical Ayurveda", to "The power of perfect digestion", to "Your perfect weight: How to lose weight permanently by increasing metabolic function", are but to name a few. Atreya also gives the reader a chance to follow a structured 21 day plan in order to embrace Ayurvedic principles in a controlled and guided environment. The inquisitive who have never come across Ayurveda before, too the practitioner that has embraced the Ayurvedic lifestyle for some time, all will find "Perfect Balance" to be a wealth of knowledge.
Just a correction on the latest review regarding the taking of spices and herbs in our daily life. Yes one does cook with herbs, spices and food according to ones Prakriti(constitution) and Vikriti(present state of imbalance), however Ayurvedic medicine prescribes formulas made of different herbs and spices to be ingested daily and at certain times depending on the quality (Guna) of the substance and the desired effect. For instance the Ayurvedic formula Trikatu which is a combination of Sunthi (dry ginger powder) maricha (black pepper) and Pippli (long pepper). Looking at the individual substances we would expect to find two of the three in most kitchen pantries and if black pepper is not in ever kitchen in the modern world then I would be truly amazed such is the commonality of this spice. This formula Trikatu is revered for its effect on correcting slow digestive problems (low Agni), expelling mucus (Kapha) and toxins (ama) out of the channels (Srotas) and as a stimulant.
Or take Trijat, made of cinnamon, cardamom, and cinnamon leaf, this combination of spices reduces Ama (toxicity), stimulates Prana (the vital force, energy) and increases Agni (the digestive fire). Most of the ingredients found in the two formulas can be found in the kitchen cupboard and it is this simplistic approach to healing that Atreya is trying to share. Present the knowledge in an easily accessible fashion that all can share. If one wishes to read more "in-depth" material that goes into the Ayurvedic fundamentals in detail then Atreya's previous books "Practical Ayurveda: Secrets for Physical, Sexual & Spiritual Health", "Ayurvedic Healing for Women: Herbal Gynecology and "Secrets of Ayurvedic Massage" all deal with this. As a student of Ayurvedic medicine I can honestly say that Atreya's knowledge is unquestionable.

Book Description
In 1943, Jerald C. McIntire is supposed to die in a grenade explosion in the Ardennes forest in World War II. He miraculously survives, but from that point on Jerry no longer needs to eat or sleep, he has no emotions, and he never ages. After several suicide attempts, Jerry discovers he can't die. But how is this possible?
Nearly twenty years after his first brush with death, Jerry learns that he somehow broke the realm of the natural order. Even God Himself isn't sure how it happened, but Jerry is the only man ever born without a soul. The archangel Michael informs him that in the Soul War, good and evil are bound by certain laws and honor checks. Jerry, however, is bound by nothing and can therefore serve as the Master's Centurion-an agent of God bestowed with the name Jericho.
Jericho roams the streets of New York City, keeping order between the agents of Heaven and Hell, the angelus and the demonata. When a rogue deity, an ancient Hittite dragon god, comes to Earth and begins preying on both angels and demons, Jericho must step in to maintain the balance. But he stumbles into a much larger plot-one that threatens to irreparably damage the Balance of the Soul War and end all things.

A terrific new Series Debut!.......2007-06-04
Sean Little has created a new interpretation of reality and infused it with wry humor, fast-paced action, and reverent irreverence. In The Centurion, we have a great jumping-off point for a new series. Little creates some very visual scenes and snappy dialogue. The plot moves along with enough information to keep the reader alert, but not so much that the story is hindered. Little's influences and inspirations would be clear to a seasoned fantasy reader, but he handles his characters with deftness and wholly owns the universe of his creating. Read this book; it doesn't suck.

Book Description
"There is no need to settle for an ordinary life when and extraordinary life lies within. I know this because I have had both," says Maureen Moss, author, life coach, and seminar leader.
In The Nature of Bliss, Moss takes us on the journey to the extraordinary -- back to our true natures, to bliss. This magical journey effects profound healing on both a personal and global level.
The Nature of Bliss shows us how to harmonize the five elements of bliss -- balance, love, integrity, sexuality, and soul. Personal accounts of transformation and a series of Inner Explorations throughout the book aid in this process.
From The Nature of Bliss
- BALANCE is achieved when you walk in the light of a truth that is far past what the mind presently knows.
- "Am I loved and do I love well?" In each moment that you touch your own heart, you will come to know more about LOVE.
- Great freedom and a deep connection to the Universal Pulse emerge when you live your life with INTEGRITY
- Understanding the Divinity of your SEXUALITY and the pure power of your sacred sexual energy opens your heart and allows you to come ever closer to the heart of God.
- There is a price and a prize in heeding the message of the SOUL. The price: your life as you have known it will never be the same. The prize: your life as you have known it will never be the same.

Superbly written & spiritually enriching.......2002-08-04
Bliss stands for "Balance, Love, Integrity, Sexuality, Soul". In The Nature Of Bliss, a self-help book by business woman, community activist, and motivational speaker Maureen Moss that deftly takes the reader on a metaphysical journey to their own personal harmony. A superbly written, spiritually enriching, "reader friendly" volume, The Nature Of Bliss is enthusiastically recommended reading for readers of all faiths who are searching for their own inner self realization.
Life Changing Views on Living a Fuller Life.......2002-07-03
Maureen describes the wonderful balance on the "seesaw of life" that can be achieved through the blending of love, integrity, sexuality, and soul. Her examples from her own life experiences help to connect the content of this book to the real business of living life to the fullest. The "Inner Exploration" exercises throughout the book help to anchor the principles of this message by providing a road map for coming back to your own authentic nature of bliss. A wonderful text that could be augmented with a workbook to coordinate the learning described throughout the book. Maureen has been guided to share her awareness that love is a spiritual act that commits us to a way of behaving in everyday life that recognizes the interconnectedness of us all. A wonderful guide for living a balanced life of integrity and love.

Sufism from the psychological perspective.......2002-11-12
Sheikh Muzaffer must have been a good Guru for initiating this author into sufism. Dr. Frager's understanding and contribution to sufism is valuable. His writing is easy to understand and practice [though page 173-174 is acceptable for those who are not yet Muslim; Muslim should refer to more valid intruction and guide].
What he shared at times touches my heart. Sufism/tasawwuf, or the spiritual component of Islam is the beautiful aspect of Islam; the right path to God as long as practiced according or within the syariah, the physical component.
Dr. Frager, being a clinical psychologist was able to show how sufism could be incoporated into healing. This aspect of healing should be within the capacity of all muslim doctors.
This book is suitable for lay person as well as specialist in medical or psychological field. It should be a must for psychiatrists in training, who probably have been exposed only to Fruedian or neofreudian thinking.
One of The Best Explanations of Sufism Given In The West.......2000-08-28
When one thinks of Sufism in the West, most often it is related to Rumi, or it is a very general apprehension of Sufism in a starkness that fails to convey it's heart and reality. This book is, as of yet still not very well known, but it will soon be very well known- because Robert Frager exposits the teaching, and psychology of Sufism in the most complete manner that has ever been done in the West. He is a scholar, but he is also a Sufi Shaykh, in the lineage al-Jerrahi al-Halveti. Shaykh Frager has had incredible, and powerful teachers in Shaykh Muzafer Ozak, and Shaykh Tosun Bayrak. This book contains the essence of what Shaykh Frager has benn teaching over the years. It is all here, finally put down in book, and is fantastic. The language of the book is intuitive, clear, and precise. It draws one to examine the one's self. The teachings on the nafs and the lower self are very serious and important. This is a path of Love in action. It teaches of the Eye of the Heart, or Intellect of the Heart as the reigning wisdom that subdues all ignorance, and obscuration of being-It shows you how. The spirit of true prayer is also conveyed by this book. It is a rich treasure that once ingested will remain in the soul for the rest of one's life. This book will prove to be vey hard to improve on. All praise to Allah!

Sensible advice in a humorous style.......2007-04-22
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (3/07)
"Life Lessons for Busy Moms," is divided into 7 chapters. Each chapter is filled with wisdom, humor, advice, quotes, tips and stories.
"Make Time To Nurture Yourself."
The emphasis of this chapter is taking care of you, creating boundaries, cultivating your relationship with your husband and creating balance in your life. As a mother you wear many hats and you need to recognize how important your roles are.
"Take Charge of Your Parenting Style/Philosophy."
"Implement Creative Solutions (with an Organized Approach)"
"Feed Your Soul."
As a mother what do you need? What are your goals? What do you see as your future?
"Keep an Organized Home."
This is my favorite chapter. Organization! Our lives are less stressful is we have detailed schedules, systems and a good calendar.
"Solicit Help."
We all need assistance at sometime or other but many of us refuse to ask for it. No matter how hard you try you can't be Supermom!
"Make Time to Slow Down"
When we slow down we come to appreciate "the small things in life" those little moments that later we wish we hadn't rushed through. We come to cherish what's happening right now instead of worrying about what might happen, "the what if's."
I wish I'd had this book years ago when my three children were little. Looking back on those precious years I wish I'd been more organized, more stress free. I wish I'd taken more time to enjoy those special moments as they happened rather than stressing out over unimportant things.
This is a delightful book with sound, sensible advice and suggestions written in a humorous style. The stories are sure to bring a smile to the faces of mothers and grandmothers. This book would make a fantastic gift for a new or expectant mother. I highly recommend "Life Lessons for Busy Moms" to all mothers and grandmothers. My daughter and daughters-in-law will each be receiving a copy.
Tips and Humor for moms.......2007-01-31
This book is full of good tips for new moms, humor, inspiring quotes, and warm stories from real moms-including myself. It is easy to read and has some thoughtful simple solutions for everyday challenges.

The mind and heart opener.......2004-01-10
Like the title above states this is my opinion of all of Gloria Benish's books. All chapters are introduced in a very warm, friendly and welcoming way. After reading all her books, some things may appear repetitious. I just look at them as quick reminders. Sometime this is necessary. Just have the patience to absorb all info. This is what's completely different about this 3rd book: it challenges the mind a bit through the sections at the end of each chapter and the new info off course. Anyways, in my heart her book gets more than 5 stars.
I'm Okay, You're Okay-Now Let's Learn!.......2003-09-03
This is the 3rd book I know of so far from author Gloria Benish. She takes a very refreshing approach to spirituality, using honesty and humor to get her points across. Imagine a spiritual leader who when called "wise," calls herself a "smart ...!?"
Spiritual Training Wheels is filled with straight talk about ways to keep your soul in balance. We all make mistakes and no one is perfect, but you soon learn that anyone of any background is capable of tapping into positive spiritual energy.
The author shares many stories and adventures with her ex-con friend and student Nikki, a drug addict who at one point tried to kill herself by falling backwards off her top prison bunk in hopes of breaking her neck. Gloria took this woman in, and let her share her family's home. Nikki was like a bird with a broken wing who now flies high and proud, and not without teaching a few lessons to Gloria along the way!
If you're feeling trapped in your life, Gloria teaches us about free will. You will be shown how to remove the mental blocks we create to keep from letting ourselves grow. Learn the basics of meditation, the use of violet light energy, and how to use healing in different energy centers and chakras of our bodies.
This book has a heavy focus on family, but you soon learn that definition includes spiritual and physical families as well. People with traditional families will enjoy chapters on gifted children, family love, and the facts of life.
Now for the greatest part of this book, the unwritten part that comes from you! Each chapter ends with several questions for the reader to answer in their own journal. This will help you take a great inward look at yourself, so you can dissolve fears and boundaries. You'll also visualize and create new beginnings and dreams.
If you ever get the chance, take one of Gloria Benish's workshops if she is in your area. I took one a few years ago, and was able to customize some of her techniques and found them very helpful.
Spiritual Training Wheels is a book you'll spend hours with, and you'll want to answer the journal questions more than once as your environment changes over the years. This book is just the push most people will need, to help get some balance back in their lives.
