Hotels & Resorts.......2007-01-18
Good primer for anyone interested in development of their first hotel. Good schematics and good general information. Nice index. Useful for learning terminology, which makes negotiating with saavy designers and construction people a lot easier. Could stand to be updated.
The (probably) Perfect book for the technical planning of any hotel........2006-12-09
This book includes all the technical and financial aspects of hotel design/planning. It is an essential book to have when designing any hotel as it contains all standard neccessities for all situations. It shows technical drawings and some info of many (successful) hotels around today. Including some financial statistics and images of these hotels, which are mainy the large hotel chains but also Low budget hotels. This is the most important info as we can learn the most from successful hotels and see why they are working.
Cons are that it is quite difficult to follow. Not clearly explaining what certain statistics are and it is not in a reader friendly format. The few black/white pictures are not important really... But this does not affect my rating of the book as it is not intended for actual learning, rather more 'knowing' essential technical aspects.
The book isn't what a lot of people see as design, aesthetics and visuals etc. It has nothing to do with interior decorating or contemporary design. Just to let you know if you dont already...
If you are or thinking to be a hotel designer/Architect or are in the hotel business, then this book is perfect. You need it to have a hotel that works.

Perfect !!.......2006-12-22
I was assigned to teach at the Master Degree class on "Facility Management" subject focusing on Hotel Facility. I have gone through several books regarding hotel design. I think this book is the best of all. Any designer who reads this book back to back will certainly understand the whole concept. It is not only about how to design the hotel as an architecture piece, but the reader will also understand the hospitality business. This book also covers the design and management issues of related topics such as "Restaurant", "Entertainment Venue" in the hotel. It is the 'must have' for all architects who want to design a hotel efficiently. It can also be a good book for anyone who is in the hospitality business and currently in charge of renovating or upgrading the hotel space; or the hotel's representative who need to communicate with architects or interior designer. This book can be the great tool to evaluate the result of the hotel construction project or even to 'correct' it. The tables and formulas for space calculation in this book are easy enough for anyone to understand. This book can be of great use to all building design professionals. It can also be a valuable one for any people who is interested in hotel business.
The Most Outstanding Resource for Hotel Architecture!.......2006-07-31
The work of hotel design and planning is different from other architectural works; it requires an indepth understanding of hotel business. Therefore, the hotel architecture became one of the toughest job for architects. (Another job is the hospital architecture.)
However, this book proposed design guidelines for a hotel fit to the business pattern. First, it explains various types of hotel properties. Second, it shows not only design guidelines for facilities but also planning approach methods for location selecting and size determination. Finally, if you read this book, you can consider efficient management system of the property from the early phase of design.
Among numerous books on hotel architecture, I think this book is the most outstanding resource.
Good for anyone interested in hospitality design.......2005-11-15
I am an Interior Design student and found this book very helpful in completing a hospitality design. It provides a breakdown of the areas of the hotel, the different types of hotels, and the type of customers that use them. It really helped me in laying out the floor plan. There are also some awesome color pictures of fabulous hotels in the world. I highly recommend for anyone interested in hospitality design.
Great book!.......2004-07-11
This a book that be should always be close to you if you work in the hotel development industry.
Comprehensive and beautiful.......2001-09-04
I found this in the Rizzoli bookstore and had to slit the shrinkwrap to see what the book was like. Then sat down in a soft chair to browse through it but after a half hour decided it made more sense to just buy it and read it at home. Not disappointed. The book covers everything in great detail - lots of text - with pictures of hotels from the Chilean Andes to London and Paris and New York. A "must have" for people interested in travel and hotels and architecture.

disappointed... .......2006-02-25
it's ok, but I was disappointed at the lack of real information. alright, there are some good parts, but then I found the Rutes Penner book and it really is full of stuff. A better choice.

Hospitality Facilities.......2002-02-28
Great Book, I am an architect new to hotel design and I found this book filled with lots of valuable information, especially in chapters 2 & 3 where they discuss some awesome projects. Nice photos and diagrams throughout the book.
Not recommended.......2001-10-27
Sorry, but this isn't much of a book. Only 160 pages without the index and other stuff in the back, mostly self-promotion by a few architects of their own projects -- ok, some nice hotels and good color pictures in the middle -- only a little technical information. Other books have much more content, or more pictures of a wider variety of hotels/resorts. Way too expensive for what you get.

Book Description
A really well-designed public toilet is a rare and welcome discovery. It adds greatly to the impression made on a building's users -- whether in a restaurant, mall, airport or hotel. And, in the case of public toilets in parks and streets, a clean and aesthetically pleasant public toilet leaves the user with a positive opinion of the city as a whole. For much of the 20th century, "cheap and durable" was the rule. That trend is changing.
Public Toilet Design presents the best projects made in the last two years, worldwide. There are more than 50 public spaces shown, with the "facilities" well integrated into good design.
There are more than 600 full-color photographs. Each project is accompanied by plans and detailed descriptions that show the transformation of the public toilet as its planning, development and construction took shape over the last few years.
It includes:
- History and evolution of the public toilet
- Places of leisure: restaurants, bars, clubs, malls, gyms, theatres, museums, stadiums
- Commuting spaces: airports, train stations, boats, rest areas
- Public residences: hotels, spas, geriatric residences
- Work areas: banks, offices, public administrations
- Materials and accessories used
- Ergonomics: adaptations of the elderly, handicapped, and diaper-changing stations
Public Toilet Design is for architects, designers, public administrators, restaurant owners and other proprietors of publicly used space -- anyone wanting to give their clients a better impression where it is keenly noticed.
Customer Reviews:
a must for all toilets.......2007-01-17
Sit and congitate on where you might be if you werent sitting where you were. There are some great and not so great inspirational places to expurge your toxins.
helpful ideas for non-residential designers.......2006-12-29
while the majority of the WC shown here were created with a substantial budget, Public Toilet Design demonstrates a wide variety of styles and settings that can be inspiring (if you can imagine a public toilet being inspiring) for anyone in the design profession.

How to plan and design a special hotel!.......2005-09-16
This is a great book for studying the better designs of hotel-
based centers and campuses intended as convention and other
"purpose" destination centers...How a good hotel provides for
its guests, and fits in with the local community is pointed out
for both the hotel-fan and the lodging planner who may wish the
guests/atendees to enjoy essential shopping also...
Whether carefully fitted into a busy city, or spreading out on
available 'resort'-like sites, the hotels described in this book
present a broad variety of inviting places for business and fun.
My interest in the subject was to look for good examples of ho-
tels which could function as both the legislature for emerging
countries--and nice living/office suites onsite! This is great
for a general assembly which wants its members from 'out of
town' to dwell within easy walking distance from the main
meeting hall, their offices, and other necessary in-session
amemities. Good onsite secutiry is possible too and visitors
can look through studio windows while wearing [interpretive]
headsets!
While originally intended for architects and site planners,
this book is a nice briefcase-friendly text for hospitality
fans also!
