Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

When Sue Bender proudly announced to a friend that her first book, Plain and Simple had made it to the New York Times bestseller list, her friend immediately shot back, "But what number on the list are you?" Bender was shocked, realizing that nothing we accomplish seems like enough in our overly pressured world. In Everyday Sacred we follow Bender on her quest to make every moment enough. Cleaning a desk, sipping cappuccino, making computer connections, and appreciating freshly painted walls all become opportunities to satiate one's life with sacred encounters. The end product reads like an Amish quilt--simple vignettes sewn together to create a comfortable lifetime companion.
Book Description
Her struggle is one keenly felt in today's intensely pressured and time-starved world: how can we experience our lives fully in whatever we are doing at the moment—whether cleaning the kitchen, faced with a situation that frustrates us, or momentarily exhilarated by some new fortune that's befallen us. Inspired by the image of the empty `begging bowl' that Zen monks would start each day with to solicit enough food to nourish and sustain them, Bender discovers for herself—and shows us in the process—how to find that which is `just enough' to fill our lives each day. The lessons along Bender's path of `doubt and hope' reveal that each step is a place to learn and that `we can seek the sacred everywhere—in our homes, in our daily activities, and hardest to see, in ourselves'.

A Spiritual Journey.......2007-05-15
"Everyday Sacred; A Woman's Journey Home" by Sue Bender is a book about the author's spiritual journey while living amidst the Amish. Bender highlights that each day, and the 'everyday' within each day is sacred. There are many opportunities to experience sacred encounters in one's life, by focusing on appreciation of simplicity and the little things in life such as enjoying a warm cup of tea or noticing the beauty of flowers in your garden. All in all 'Everyday Sacred' offers clarity, optimism and hope amidst our modern world that is all too often hectic and stressful. What I enjoyed most about 'Everyday Sacred' is that reading the book really did take me on an experiental journey into the sacred; most remarkable! Congratulations Sue Bender on writing such an inspiring and successful book.
If you like 'Everyday Sacred' then you'll love NEXUS by Deborah Morrison and Arvind Singh, a successful, new age debut novel, an absorbing guide to the dazzling universe of spirituality in terms of life's joys and sorrows. Nexus: A Neo Novel
A spell-binding read!.......2006-10-06
After witnessing the recent horror (school massacre) inflicted upon the Amish community, "Everyday Sacred" is a timely reminder that they and the human spirit will endure.
It reminds us to ask not what we lack, but to appreciate, daily, what we already have. My favorite quote from the book is: "Don't try for perfection. Trying to be good enough will be plenty."
I am giving it my highest recommendation because it is more than good enough - it is a spell-binding read!

The Cure for the unnamed Problem.......2006-06-01
It's a great description of the Spritual Cure.... but we never analyze what was wrong in the first place... it's a type of Narcissism which in her case comes into conflict with her religious values and forced her to develop her spritual walk as a cure.
And it's a good cure, often overlooked because we neglect to name the Beast thats at the core.So the spiritual cure goes untried.
Inspirational!.......2006-03-01
This book fell into my lap at a time when I was "most ready" to hear it, so my review may be tainted. It was so inspirational to me, and I absolutely loved the analogies and word pictures that Sue Bender used. I refer to those illustrations in my mind nearly every day. I use this book as my nightstand "go to book" when I need a spiritual pick-me-up. It is beautiful, articulate, and powerful. I have sent copies to nearly everyone I know because I believe anyone and everyone, no matter what your spiritual beliefs are, can benefit from Ms Bender's eloquent writing.
Read all three, Please!!!!.......2003-02-04
I bought all of her books at the same time and read them in
reverse order. No kidding! Each touched me and healed and
helped me. I am much more effective and sensitive to myself
now. I have slowed down, I have done what she suggests. I even
visited an AMish farm and bought chickens after reading this
and more deeply appreciated the experience after reading these
books. I can't tell you which taught me what, I just know they
are brilliant. I gave them to a treasured friend and encouraged
her to pass them on to other women seeking balance and enlightenment. I lived in Berkeley too...so it was fun to
revisit those memories!

Karen Kingston knew she was on to something when people began to invite her to their homes. She helped them with "Space Clearing," which is to say that she helped them clear bad energy from their homes and create space for good energy. Over the years, she has refined her techniques and enhanced them with borrowings from other cultures. In Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui, Kingston shows you how to draw on the spirituality of Bali and Chinese Feng Shui. With the view that one's home is a "magical manifesting machine," she describes how to consecrate space, how to use Feng Shui cures and enhancements, how to eliminate clutter, and how to Space Clear for yourself by engaging physically with the energy of your home. If the personal transformations that Kingston describes are any indication, Space Clearing will create new vistas for the renewal and revitalization of any home.
Book Description
Feng Shui is the ancient oriental art of enhancing and harmonizing the flow of energy in your surroundings. Customer Reviews:
great.......2007-03-24
Really liked this book on how to reduce the clutter! A great beginner book to feng shui and the basic principles of getting rid of clutter for better energy movement.
Great guidline into clearing your own spaces.......2007-01-08
Just wonderful, practical and easy to follow.
I did the practice and enjoyed it very much, and experienced some surprises
I recommend it
A life changing book...........2006-12-20
This book really helped me. I read this one after I read Karen's other book "Clear your Clutter with Feng Shui" I have done many Space Clearing ceremonies to date and my home always feels fresh and wonderful afterward. I would not be who I am today if it were not for Karen's books! Some people might find her books laughable and even I don't agree with everything she says but parts of this book are very deep and profound and changed my life for the better. If you are looking for a simple, beginners book on Feng Shui this might not be the book for you. A proper Space Clearing ritual is complicated and somewhat time consuming but well worth the effort. Also, I don't think Karen is trying to scam anyone with her products or website. She is simply providing products and making a living helping others and there is nothing wrong with this. Her products are expensive but if you read her books you will know: 1) You won't be buried with material things anyway 2) If you treat any 'sacred' object carelessly it's no longer sacred 3) If you believe an object is sacred and treat it as such it becomes so 4) If you put your best effort into something you will get the best results!....So, if all you can truly afford to do is check this book out from the library and dig your Space Clearing kit out of a garbage dumpster or borrow everything but you really, REALLY put a lot of thought and effort into your ceremony it will probably work for you. My first ceremony was using my Grandmother's table, mom's unwanted dishes, homemade altar cloth, a cheap brass bell I got at an after-Christmas sale and 99 cent candles..That ceremony changed my life forever. Now, its seven years later and I am a much happier person with a new house, a new job, a new man and a much better life. I'm still doing Space Clearing ceremonies a few times a year. True, being able to afford Karen's beautiful bells and fancy alter cloths can make a ceremony feel more special but it really won't help you manifest good in your life if you want things for the wrong reasons or if your heart is not in the right place. A 250$ bell and a 100$ cloth are useless in the hands of someone who doesn't know how to use them!
Nice ideas.......2006-11-28
This book brought home decoration to a new level for me. I used the techniques to rearrange my house and eliminate some things that weren't working. It actually improved the atmosphere of my home. Highly recommend this book and others by the same author.
Beautiful, Inspirational Book.......2006-11-04
Karen is an inspiration. She is a true feng shui practitioner that understands it with all her being. It's not just a feng shui cookie-cutter handbook, it is a guide into the soul of feng shui. We finish this book with an understanding of why we might allow clutter into our lives, and an understanding of how placement affects the energy of a home and how that affects our life. She explains in an exquisite way how to change the less harmonious aspects of our lives by changing a home or work environment into a more beautiful place.

Product Description
Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home & Your Planet, by Norma Lehmeier Hartie, is an indispensable reference book for anyone who cares about their health and well being and for the future of the planet. Hartie concisely covers a wide range of subjects and includes a comprehensive listing of advisory organizations, product and service resources. Part I of the book, Banish the Ugly from Your Life, is a blueprint for green, sustainable living. Discover how to replace toxic and unsustainable products from household cleaners to food (including recipes) to furniture to personal care products with safe, eco-friendly ones. Hartie is the tough but motivational Life Coach in her approach to cleaning, removing clutter and on organizing the home or office. Part II, Bring in the Beautiful to Create a Harmonious Environment and Self, includes a chapter on Earth-based spirituality and a fascinating look at the Four Elements (Earth, Fire, Air and Water) and the Medicine Wheel. The core of Hartie s philosophy blossoms in Chapter Seven, Applying Harmonious AdjustmentsTM: Using Feng Shui and Other Techniques for Powerful Results. Unlike other Feng Shui authors, Hartie has experience as a designer and her skills are apparent in this chapter and the following two. She has combined principles of Feng Shui, the Four Elements, color, energy, Vastu, and good design principles that create a unique and eclectic approach to home decorating. Finally, Hartie provides guidance on how to manifest personal or professional desires. In Part III, Putting the Pieces Together, Hartie skillfully integrates the many subjects of the book into a unified and cohesive whole. At its cover price of $19.95, Harmonious Environment is a value alone for the comprehensive green living product suppliers in the Resources section. What makes this book so truly ambitious, however, is what lies beneath the surface. In a sense, this book is only marginal

Transform Your Home into a Peaceful Sanctuary.......2007-04-10
"The energy from flowers is so bright and strong that they can be put anywhere in the home and they will enhance your life." ~ pg. 217
Norma Lehmeier Hartie is a design consultant and Harmonious Adjustment practitioner who enjoys gardening and cooking. She created the practice of Harmonious Adjustments to give her clients the chance to reconnect with nature and to manifest their personal and professional dreams. Through her book she introduces ideas for detoxing and decluttering your home environment.
If you want a happier, healthier lifestyle that is more in harmony with nature, then Norma Lehmeier Hartie's book has a world of information to make this possible. She can help you:
Remove toxic products from your home and garage
Clean and organize your home
Buy environmentally friendly cleaning products
Organize your home for more peace and harmony
Find healthy personal care products
Grow plants that help to control pollution - A list of the Fifty Best Houseplants
Find the best choices in flooring
Figure out how to recycle larger items like a refrigerator
Cook more safely and use kitchen scraps for your garden
Formulate a plan to keep your house clean
Organize every room in the house
Decorate with Confidence
Reading through the list of harmful products gives you an idea of the ingredients to avoid in cleaners and how they can affect your health. For an antibacterial spray, the author suggests water and essential oils and for cleaning silver she also suggests more natural solutions like baking soda and vinegar. Using Borax and water is less dangerous than chlorine bleach fumes and you may want to try this in your shower. You may enjoy products by Seventh Generation.
Chapter three felt a little out of my personal range of expertise, although we know that thoughts can affect our environment and life and can move our life in a positive or negative direction. This chapter deals more with spiritual practices. Chapter 6 also delves into a deeper connection with nature, personality types and elemental powers. The list of Yin and Yang is helpful to create a balance of the two in your home. An entire chapter is also dedicated to plants, gemstones and crystals.
"If you are the average American woman, you expose yourself to over two hundred synthetic chemicals that are found in the products you use as you prepare yourself for the day. These products do not simply sit on your skin; approximately sixty percent of these ingredients get absorbed into your bloodstream." ~ pg. 91
Chapter four is especially informative and essential if you are trying to be healthier and want to find organic alternatives to products filled with synthetic chemicals. Why should you avoid petroleum and talc? Why is there lead in hair dye?
The section on an Eco-Friendly Kitchen is interesting and the chapter on natural and organic foods also gives ideas on how to save time in the kitchen. A few recipes are included:
Vegetarian Pasta Primavera
Fajitas
Risotto with Scallops or Shrimp
Lemon Rice
Grilled Vegetables
An extensive list of resources and a very handy index complete this well-researched and extremely helpful book. If you enjoy Feng Shui or decorating and organizing your home, there is a lot to enjoy and you may find the information in this book can also help with fatigue, anxiety and sleeping problems.

Life-changing ideas.......2007-02-02
Worried about what your family is being exposed to? Are you hoping to increase your wealth or find love this year? Trying to decide on the best color to paint your walls? If you answered "yes!" to any of these questions, then Harmonious Environment is a must read.
The goal of this book is to create positive energy both in your home and your life and to be kinder to the earth. Hertie is a design consultant, chef, gardener, and healer. She shares her professional and personal experiences with the readers, i.e., homemade earth-friendly cleaning products, tasty recipes for carnivores and vegetarians, etc. She recommends that after reading this book, you apply the process in the following order:
1. Remove toxic products from your home and garage
2. Clean, declutter, clear and organize your home
3. Buy/use environmentally friendly products
4. Learn how to use place objects (furniture, mirrors, etc.) to manifest change in your life
The relationship between people and the Earth is an important part of Harmonious Environments. To remind ourselves of this interconnection, Hertie recommends bringing the natural world into your home. Some ways to do this include displaying rocks and minerals and using houseplants as pollution busters.
Hertie uses Harmonious Adjustments (TM) that combines "the best principles of Feng Shui, the application of the Four Elements based on your birth date, color, Vastu, energy work and good design." I've read a few Feng Shui books in the past, but the author's clear instructions and enthusiasm has given me the confidence to actually try this at home.
I liked how the author reminded me to use this book as a guideline but to also trust my intuition. Do what looks and feels right for you. I also liked how the Resource section listed all the suppliers, organizations and further readings mentioned throughout the book.
Even if you aren't interested in Feng Shui, this book has valuable information about becoming an informed consumer and living a more eco-friendly life.

Fantastic book with tons of information.......2007-01-18
I got this wonderful book as we are moving our place of business, and wanted to make smart choices. From the first page, Ms. Lehmeier-Hartie shares her expertise in an organized, thoughtful way. The day after I got the book, I negotiated a much more logical and healthier ventilation system, and the section on colors was far and away the most organized and logical explanation I have ever seen.
Some aspects of our project are beyond our control, but I became a much more active participant. We anxiously await our new space, and know that the suggestions made here will add to the beauty and functionality of our space. I wish I could have rated this 10 stars!

This book belongs in every home........2001-12-11
The other day my brother dropped in for a visit and happened to wander into our bedroom. I went in after him to hear him exclaim, "I want my bedroom to 'feel' like this one. Why, it feels wonderful in here! What did you do to make it feel like this?" What I did was read and use Jon Robertson's "Sacred Bedroom" to help create a truly wonderful space that even my brother, who isn't easily taken in by his surroundings, noticed. Needless to say, he is receiving a copy of this book for a gift, so that now, he too, can enjoy the benefits of a good read and a transformed bedroom. Not only that, but the author will also introduce brother dear to the art of Feng Shui, dream therapy, and some other "boudoir" arts that will soothe his soul and tickle his fancy. Thank you Jon, for a great book, one that in my opinion belongs in every home.
An Impractical but Beautiful Archetype.......2001-11-04
This book brims with suggestions for transforming the bedroom into a sacred place for prayer and meditation, sleep and dreams, romance, rituals, and sacred sex. While it might take a few days or weeks to read THE SACRED BEDROOM, it could take several years to make most of the changes recommended. Just for starters, there's the physical space to be rearranged according to the principles of Feng Sui; the floor covering and bedclothes to be replaced with natural, non-toxic materials, and some sacred objects to be obtained for the creation of a bedroom altar. Robinson suggests that we make these changes gradually, as we can afford to. I started out by splurging on a compact box of tissues which enabled me to move my hand lotion from my bureau to my night table. Now I can use my bureau top for an altar. The altar is the focal point for meditation and prayer, essential activities for the maintenance of a sacred bedroom.
Robertson has created a beautiful archetype of the sacred bedroom for readers to aspire to. Some of its components are not practical for all of us, but the principles of the sacred bedroom, to be carried beyond the bedroom door into our daily interactions, can easily be integrated into our spiritual lives. These are: "The divine image within," the reminder that we and all those we meet are eternal souls made in God's image; "True Love," that helps us recognize God within ourselves and others; "Energy," being aware of the flow of energy everywhere we go, and keeping it positive; "Filtering the artificial," to protect ourselves from the influence of the media and the synthetic world; and "honoring the authentic self," the confident self who knows the permanence of the soul and its place in the universe, no matter what occurs in daily life.

Got this book for class..........2004-12-02
I am taking a Sandtray class as part of a graduate school curriculum and this book is the one we used for class. I think the book is a great beginner's book for Sandtray. It really explains the core of the theory, and also enables beginners to see the importance of this work. Explains very well the different types of items you should have part of your miniatures collection. Explains how to interpret some of the symbolism of sandtray work, (though most of that should be left to the clients!) It deals with case studies for both children and adults, which is the great...
Sandtray is a great experience for clinicians and all people, and is an effective means of communication. I highly recommend that you try it, if you have not, as it has really changed my life, and goals of my profressional career.
Great ! Multidisciplinary, innovative and well organized.......2003-05-07
Kate Amatruda's book is a wonderful gateway to learn about Sandplay!. Her garden metaphor and digging down is exactly what she allows us to do in understanding the sacred journey. She covers many extremely important topics step by step both of adult and child's process. She provides an intellectual understanding of nonverbal therapy with many specific examples to illustrate the concepts she teaches. It is digestable for beginners and interesting for advanced therapists. She has definitely done an important service to the field of Psychology and Sandplay in her book. I recommend it highly.
Compassion, wisdom and depth!.......2000-06-03
I found this book to be extremely well-written and helpful in my journey to become a better sandplay therapist. The metaphor of the garden is very apt for this kind of therapy, where establishing the 'free and protected' place is essential in order to dig deep. The authors present vignettes and complete cases with great compassion and excellent clinical knowledge. I found the charts, especially the ones on development, defenses, and how trauma impacts the chakras very clear...I refer to them often. The section on development alone is worth the price of the book; with vignettes and photos for each developmental stage, and then the configuration in the trays tied to Erik Erikson's developmental model. It also was very helpful to see brief therapy cases presented along with long-term work with people. This is a great book for beginners as well as those who have worked deeply in the sand for many years. The book really does combine 'age old wisdom' with modern psychotherapy.
integrates wisdom and knowledge.......1999-03-25
Thoroughly enjoyed this Sandplay text. The authors have accomplished the integration of wisdom and knowledge in their writing.

An examination of the Amitabha Sutra, a central Sutra of the Pure Land School of Buddhism. But once we realize that the Buddha is within ourselves we will see that the Pure Land is here and now, not just in future. He reveals how students of meditation can use Pure Land practice as one of many Dharma doors that can bring happiness and transform suffering. A practice since the time of the Buddha it puts us in touch with the beauty in our own world and brings us security, solidity and freedom.

I have not yet finished this book, as it does take awhile to read. It is very informative and has a lot of intersting facts about this Avalon and Glastonbury; however, it can be difficult to read.
Excellent historical and mythological reference!.......2003-09-29
Nicholas Mann captures the spirit of Avalon through the combined lenses of history, archeology, mythology and comparative spirituality rarely found in comparable texts. A must-own for anyone interested in Glastonbury, the Arthurian Mythos, spiritual history in sacred Britain, sacred geomety and geomancy. Mann brings a critical yet intuitively insightful perspective to all of the above. Well worth reading more than once!!

Enduring traditions spark fresh approaches to decor & design.......2005-05-07
Sacred Home digs deep into the universal roots of Western design elements. This book is a useful reference book that reads like a heartfelt letter from a friend... A friend who has gone through a deep spiritual awakening.
Some will find it too dry or too speculative. Others will see it as a great starting point for further thought and research.
This book can be fascinating reading if you enjoy innovative surveys of folklore and spirituality that is practically applied in the Llewellyn tradition. It is especially thought-provoking if you are also involved in interior design and decor.
Author Laurine Morrison Meyer began her research by asking, "Is there a Western equivalent to the Eastern practice of Feng Shui?" This began six years of research for this book.
Ms. Meyer starts by discussing design principles that have always represented the home as well as the womb. She uncovers intriguing symbols of female reproductive anatomy in triangles and Vs, wavy lines, circles, ovals, and even the Greek Omega symbol.
Next, Sacred Home explores early altars and home deities including Isis, Taweret, Hathor, Bess, Hestia, Bess, and many more. Meyer's discussion of ancestor worship and veneration in the home can be startling.
This book is almost a whirlwind of diverse ideas, each more curious than the last. However, her concepts also offer comfort and an innate ring of common sense.
After discussing symbols of protection and decorating elements, Ms. Meyer provides an intriguing look at archetypal design styles. Sacred Home follows this with chapters on housewarming traditions, propitious principles, auspicious symbols, and the enchanted dwelling.
This book is important for interior designers and decorators, as well as Feng Shui consultants. Sometimes, we too easily accept traditional Asian design elements. As designers, we should consider symbols from Western culture which could be more significant--and perhaps luckier--for Western homes.
For example, in Feng Shui we often decorate the Fame area with red. Traditionally, this is the luckiest color when applying Feng Shui to areas relating to reputation as well as income. However, as Meyer notes, "Whereas red is considered a sign of good luck in China, in Western cultures red is often associated with prostitution, passion, and fast food eateries." If those are your references as well, it would be a mistake to use red in your Fame area.
When planning our homes and offices, it's important to include design elements that affect us deeply, profoundly, and sometimes subconsciously. However, unless we have Asian roots, a black Career area may seem depressing due to cultural connections between the color black and mourning. Green (for money) or gold might be better colors in the Career area of a Western home.
Meyer's book is an excellent survey of alternatives to traditional Feng Shui elements. Sacred Home is a useful, thought-provoking tour of historical Western design concepts.
This book introduces a wide range of beliefs and traditions throughout history. It's an ideal starting point for research into mythology's relationship to enduring decorating principles.
Sacred Home is not heavily illustrated with design suggestions, but skips rapidly from one intriguing concept to the next. Every one of Meyer's comments about home decor could provide enough ideas to fill a book.
I recommend Sacred Home for design professionals, and anyone who is interested in the impact of Western folklore and spiritual traditions on design. --reviewed by Aisling D'Art, former editor, BellaOnline: Feng Shui
