Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Found book arrangement difficult.......2005-04-27
A College textbook or reference-type book. Comprehensive--fine print. Seemed a good read, but I didn't like the set-up. All text was in the front, and the examples and photos were grouped in the back. One would need to flip back and forth to view examples of the subject matter. Didn't work for me.
This is the only reason I gave it a low rating, and returned the book.
The Complete Guide to Furniture Styles.......2003-01-28
As a college educator in the history of architecture, furniture and the decorative arts I think the Boger is a very good overall text both to students and interested others. Information on furnitre prior to Gothic is the weakest, and would reccomend other texts to satisfy those needs. Photographic reproduction quality in some instances barely passable.
Great book for a history of furniture styles!.......2001-03-01
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer--this book is FILLED with pictures in the back half of the book. The pictures are disappointingly all black and white, but it keeps the cost down I suppose. This is the best resource for visual identification of styles from Egyptian through Twentieth Century that I have seen, and I have seen quite a lot of them. The front half of the book is very detailed information about each of the styles as well as specific pieces within each style. It's not something you can read from cover to cover, as the details would quickly overcome you. But it is a wonderful reference book for anyone who wants to be able to look up a particular style, read about it, and look at many pictures to visually understand general characteristics of the style.
Good written description of history and style.......2000-06-09
THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO FURNITURE STYLES is a well written guide to the history of different periods of furniture. It states the history of the period and crucial pieces with a description of the piece. There are very few pictures, so if you are looking for a guide to train your eye to note characteristics of period pieces, this will not help you. If you are looking for a written description of the pieces, this book is for you.

Cabinets and Countertops (complete construction).......2005-07-24
This book has a huge amount of information but it isn't in a reader friendly format. "To many words not enough pictures and easy to understand examples"
I want to build some Kitchen Cabinets not build a Business.......2002-01-03
I bought the book hoping to see a step-by-step approach to build my own kitchen cabinets. I found in the book a well detailed treatice on woods, cabinet styles, psychology of dealing with customers of various monetary means, tools, table saws, jointery, and a lot of stuff that I really don't care about. I also found out about 32mm European construction that is still a mystery to me. Who cares????
The real story on this book.......2001-11-13
To qualify myself and my comments, I offer this.
I am a modestly accomplished woodworker and a kitchen cabinet hanging expert. I have personally hung over 200 kitchens from layout, demolition, plumbing, electrical; To completion.
This book falls far short of delivering on its title or description. "Cabinets and Countertops" should cover exactly that. It doesn't.
This is a 450pg text, 40 pages are devoted to an cursory explanation of joints. Not a problem for me, but if you don't know the caveats of these different joints, figure out yourself. You won't learn how to make any of them either.
6 pages cover drawer making. 30 pages are in a chapter called "cabinet construction, but it must be mislabled. The meat of this chapter is a pair of exploded view drawings of a cabinet, and a lecture on being organized.
9 pages cover countertops. Not the construction of countertops, not the differents kinds of countertops. Just the terrible advice that you should buy a POST-FORM countertop from a dealer, and what color it should be. I wouldn't even consider a laminate counter for my kitchen.
The rest of this book is very general, plebeian advice on a myriad of topics. Considering the source of this advice, it should be discarded.
I am unhappy with the standard cabinets available and prefer not paying 40 grand or more with an independent shop. I looked to this book to fill the small holes I have in my skills to accomplish this myself. It doesn't even scrape the surface, and is unworthy of the shelf space it occupies, let alone the purchase price.
Great Handbook for Cabinet Construction.......2000-07-13
This book really does cover it all - from outfitting your workshop to installation. It is well illustrated with B&W photographs and drawings of about everything he is writing about. There is a prioritized list of tools & equipment as well as advice on choosing a workspace. He reviews a large number of tools, which was nice as he confirmed my choice of a JET tablesaw as appropriate.
He also lists common dimensions of appliances you will need to build around and has examples of CAD drawings in many styles. Construction techniques are covered as well as which tools work best for each task. He has whole sections on kitchen workspace layout and installation methods.
If you are thinking of building kitchen cabinets for fun or for a living, this is the only book you need to see how to do it. If you are looking for lots of color pictures of creative designs, look elsewhere. This is mostly a technical manual, written in a conversational style that makes it interesting to read. It is an essential book in your woodworking library.
Terrific resource!.......2000-06-26
I've read a good many books on this topic lately and would definitely rate this as one of the best. Well organized and informative, this book provides a wealth of information to both the novice and the professional cabinetmaker. I highly recommend it!

Customer Reviews:
The information is a bit out of date.......2005-05-03
Since this book was kind of recommanded with Cakewalk's Home studio so I took it then learned that the Home Studio mentioned in this book isn't the same Home studio 2 product currently made by Cakewalk. Some information still applies but it'll take some mental exercise to filter out those no longer applies. If you are looking for current information on Cakewalk's product Home studio 2 then you need to look elsewhere.
Sonar 2 Power! is a better book for Home Studio 2004 owners.......2003-10-29
I haven't read this book, but I did skim through it and noticed it looked thinner on the shelves than Sonar 2 Power!, and chose to buy Sonar 2 Power! because I thought it was more comprehensive. I've been very happy about that purchase and what I've learned about Cakewalk Home Studio.
Sonar 2 Power! is a good book for Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 (and XL) users, because Home Studio 2004 is basically the same as Sonar 2 with a few missing features that Home Studio 2004.
I did a comparison of it to my recently acquired 2004 XL upgrade and other than the synchronization function, a couple of UI changes (Snap to Grid button changed locations), and a few effects that Home Studio XL doesn't give you, everything works identical to the Sonar 2 version in the book.
I'd recommend everyone look at Sonar 2 Power! instead of this book first... At least more advanced users. Maybe this is a good book for novices though.
Good for the basics.......2003-03-22
I bought this book because it advertised Guitar Pro and Home Studio 2002...But it actually only covers Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 which isn't even available anymore. That's sorta annoying; but if you read along with the Pro Audio tips, theres a lot in common with what you would need for Guitar Pro and/or Home Studio. I kept it because like I said, it does help you tweak your system for the other programs; and it seems that all 3 programs are a lot alike.
So in conclusion, it's not what I thought it was going to be, but it covers what I needed to know.
Disappointed.......2002-01-08
What spurred me to buy this book was the lack of guidance in Cakewalk Home Studio regarding the use of the Pitch Wheel. Being a newcomer to Sequencers, I needed this basic information.
I was quite disappointed to find that Cakewalk Power didn't have much to offer in its one paragraph relating to the Pitch Wheel except to say that it was there.
I just hope that the next item I'll need some assistance with from the book will be covered at least a little better.
Great Source.......2001-12-31
Scott does and excellent job of explaining Cakewalk products. He truly understands thier applications and computers. Now I just have to put all that knowledge to use, what fun. If you have Guitar Studio, ect get this or one of his other books. Thanks Scott.

With its floral prints, chintz fabrics, and flea-market finds, vintage style is a popular one. Cath Kidston introduces us to her variation by taking us on a tour of her own home--bedrooms, bathroom, living room, kitchen, and home office--in her new book, Vintage Style: Creating a Compete Look for Your Home.
Kidston's original love of this style stems from the patterns and fabrics she grew up with. When she started her own design shop as an adult, she realized that these same fabrics hadn't lost any of their freshness and comfort, and she began designing around the patterns and items she found at thrift shops and flea markets. Her vintage style consists largely of rose prints in chintz fabric as well as comfortable linen and ticking. Lavish details abound--velvet curtains, tassels, and bobble fringe, for instance.
Liberal in her use of color, Kidston often recommends mixing clashing colors for a vibrant feeling in the room. Her walls are usually painted white, and color is added with fabrics, furniture, and accessories, which makes it easy and inexpensive to change the color scheme if you get tired of the old one.
Resourceful decorating ideas include the use of old scraps of patterned fabrics and striped linens, ribbon, and haberdashery flowers to create padded clothes hangers, ironing board covers, and stitch lavender sachets--all of which would make excellent homemade gifts as well. Kidston is practical about her flea-market finds--she never buys anything she can't use. But as she points out, there are lots of unusual uses for items you already own--you just need to use a little ingenuity. A chipped china cup becomes a laundry detergent scoop; old curtains are turned into tablecloths. There's something very refreshing about such resourcefulness in an age of disposable items. Kidston's Vintage Style is all about cheerful, well-worn rooms that are as comfortable as they are pretty. --Kris Law

What to do with flea market finds.......2004-11-02
Unlike many of the other reviewers, I adore this book... to the point that I have had it out from the library for six months! (Yes, I know that I had better buy it soon, and, no, it's not overdue yet.)
Yes, this book is a bit precious. Yes, every single photo in the book features a 100% perfect room (right down to the eerily cute clothes hangers). But Vintage Style makes for delicious eye candy, and, more than that, it does have some nifty ideas.
For example, I've been using it to get ready to go out antiquing, as it has all sorts of ideas for making over old bits and bobs. Like me, you may see lots of old towels, old blankets, and old trims, but never seem to know what to do with them. Of course, you want to buy them any way. But if you also buy this book, then you'll know just what to do. You'll edge plain white towels with strong old cotton lace. You'll use old linen to make a crazy 50's roller towel.
The other aspect of this book that I enjoy is the fact that this book IS a bit precious. I respect the fact the Kidston wants to make every part of her life beautiful. Imagine that you had a lovely, vintage fabric covered ironing board. Imagine that you had charming slippers. I bet your life would be better! Mine certainly would.
LOVED THIS BOOK.......2004-10-30
I THOUGHT THIS WAS A LOVELY BOOK.I FOUND IT TO BE QUITE PRACTICAL CONSIDERING IT WAS SORT OF SHABBY CHIC MEETS VICTORIAN.THERE ARE MANY BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHS WITH PLENTY OF GREAT IDEAS.I DISAGREE STRONGLY WITH SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWS.PERHAPS YOU NEED TO BE A CREATIVE PERSON TO APPRECIATE THIS BOOK.
Somewhat disappointing.......2000-07-09
As a big fan of the "Shabby Chic" books...I thought I'd try this one as well. I came away pretty disappointed. One of the biggest frustations with this book was that the text did not relate to the visuals on the page...Often the photo was several pages ahead or didn't appear at all. And I'd say visual references are pretty important when writing a decorating book. Am I supposed to imagine what this room looks like? The photos that do appear aren't very good...many left me wondering what they even were. If you like this style of decorating, stick to the Shabby Chic books by Rachel Ashwell. They are a much more inspirational and well written series--and the photography is much, much better.
Pretty, but a disappointment.......2000-05-15
I was really looking forward to this book, but was disappointed by its narrow focus. I wish Kidston had shown more examples than just her own home. And while I did like her decorating style, it was most irritating to keep flipping back and forth between text and photos, trying to figure out if the picture next to the text was an example of what she was describing (and often it wasn't) or if the photo 3 pages ahead was really what she was describing. I came away feeling that I really hadn't gathered any usable information for my own home.

Nice reference book.......2000-10-26
Although the text can be a bit tedius at times, this is a good reference book for building a home. I have been searching for a book like this for sometime. While I expected this to be directed a bit more towards the decorating aspect of the home, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it answered many of my questions concering home building. Not a complete reference, but a great start nonetheless.
20,000 ft. view.......2000-08-29
I was hoping to get insights from the mind of an interior design artist. My disappointment grew as I made my way through the book. I did not once stop to ponder on advice that was given, I read about simplistic rules, "the use of space is important", "functionality over conventionality". The book is filled with photos but no unifying text that brings a flow of ideas. I would only recommend this book if you want a condensed "how-not-to" book. Otherwise, keep browsing and please let us know of any good finds.

Complete Home Style Book.......2003-08-29
This is the best design book I've ever looked at. All of the pictures and diagrams make it so wonderful. With all those pictures no one would have a hard time tring to find a perfect design to fit there room. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs some ideas for a room. I just love it!
Most Modern.......2002-06-05
It is amazing how you can change a space in your home when you have a picture of exactly what you want to recreate. Your home is the place where you can take full control of your surroundings.
We bought our first house last year and I really have had trouble figuring out what exactly I want to do in certain rooms. I found Pier 1 to be a favorite hang out, but seriously, you have to figure out what your personal style is going to be and this book does help you see what appeals to you.
I'm definitely in love with the Antique tub in a nostalgic bathroom complete with a fireplace, but it aint gonna happen! I also have visions of a grand piano and built in bookshelves and a fireplace and a Persian Style bedroom complete with plenty of pillows for the cats to lounge around on.
For cooks, you will enjoy seeing Elizabeth David's comfy kitchen complete with a cat. In fact the kitchen section in this book is a real highlight. There is a family kitchen plan on pg. 64 which is just spectacular.
The chapters include:
Kitchen - the best part of this book!
Living Area - Cushy couches, please.
Bedroom - Clean Lines and open spaces
Bathroom - Whirlpool baths with a view and some amazing children's bathroom ideas.
Home Office - The second best part of this book!
Ancillary Space - A utility room plan to die for!
One-Room Living - Reminds me of my first studio apartment!!!
Planning Details - A section on worksurfaces in the kitchen is useful.
Great for Inspiration BEFORE you build your own home or for getting ideas on how you want to remodel areas of your home. Also useful for planning how you are going to fill up that big empty room.
Modern Designs, Creative Design Solutions, Dual-Purpose Offices and Small-Space Bathrooms are also a feature.
Yes, Modern Style about says it.
It's all in the details!.......2000-12-16
Although no book can be all inclusive, this comes close. Diagrams and photographs are plentiful in this book. From kitchens to wall coverings, everthing is explained in depth. This book even contains diagrams on how low your bedside table should be compared to your bed! We are talking details! This book explains things that other books have taken for granted! Enjoy!
