Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

5 out of 5 stars Complete Illustrated Guide to Woodworking.......2007-04-19

Having just taken delivery of this boxed set I can see that my workshop projects will have to wait a while so enjoyable I am finding these books to read!

I was initially looking to purchase only the Andy Rae book to help in some cabinet construction work but having not bought any up-to-date woodworking books for a while I decided to buy the set. Having now briefly gone through all three books I am very pleased with my decision to purchase all.

The Rae book, my book of choice, is exceptionally good with clear easy-to-understand explanations of all the subject matter accompanied by excellent line drawing illustrations back with good colour photos as required. The content layout is also very well organised and importantly the reader doesn't get bogged down in heavy text passages on techniques and the like. Importantly even just a quick skim through the various sections of the book leaves the reader with grasp of the essence of the content.

This is a book which I see myself constantly dipping into and, as the writer states in his introduction, will be kept very close to my workshop!

The Rogowski book on joinery is presented in a similar fashion and recieves another thumbs up although I have to confess that as an amateur carpenter I doubt the need to tackle some of the more ambitious work presented. Nevertheless, I am already rethinking of changing some of the techniques I presently use in favour of those presented by Mr Rogowski.

The Bird book on shaping wood looks like becoming another very useful reference and ideas book that I shall dip into as new and more ambitious projects come along.

All in all I heartily recommend this boxed set to anyone who dabbles in and enjoys woodworking, and wants to learn more from the experts in a easily understandable and practical manner.

Definitely 5 stars to Taunton Press for compiling ths set.

I have almost the complete Taunton series of woodworking books and they are a joy to peruse. Filled with good ideas, tips, tools and what-all.

5 out of 5 stars Perfectly concise.......2006-03-16

This collection of books, which is priced substantially lower than bookstores by the way, is really a great wealth of knowledge about woodworking in general. I enjoy woodworking, specifically I'm a carpenter so my days have some variety, but there's only so much you can figure out on your own. You'll learn something just flipping through these books. This collection really gives you a direction to go with your craft and they really help you improve.

Great book! I bought it for my son-in-law--he loved it.

4 out of 5 stars Doll furniture.......2007-01-04

An excellent book with good projects. So far I've only built the armoire, but have others in mind. I did discover minor discrepancies in the directions. Cuts did not agree with what pictures showed in the construction. Trying to find all the different thicknesses of woods specified was difficult if you do not have access to a thickness planer or sander. There is no problem that can't be overcome with a little ingenuity.

1 out of 5 stars NOT scaled for 18" dolls.......2006-07-08

How disappointing! I bought this book for my daughter's 9th Birthday. Her dad is going to make her American Girl dolls some furniture & I thought this would be the perfect guide. WRONG! The armoire is only 6" deep. The American Girl clothes hangers are 6 1/4" wide. Tell me, how is that going to work? The doors won't even be able to close! Thankfully my hubby is a skilled woodworker & can expand the dimensions, but if he is going to have to come up with his own pattern this book would have best been left on the shelf. We are very disappointed. My brother-in-law is making the picnic table & my niece told me that they were surprised & how small it is looking. Seems like more than one project is not quite up to the 18" par. Think twice before buying this one or at least find one to look at in person before hand.

4 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2006-02-25

I really loved this book. My girls wanted furniture for their dolls, but Pleasant Company Products were out of my budget. Using this book, my daughters and I were able to create the simple pieces.

My older daughter designed a bedroom suite. We painted it blue with a cascade of morning glories. Flower painting is not one of my talents, so we used rub ons from the craft store. The bed was easy to build, the armoire was challenging. We turned the chest over to Grandpa to finish. I was beyond my skills.

My younger daughter wanted a dining room suite for her tea parties. The table and chairs were fine, but once again we requested Grandpa's assistance to turn an armoire into a china hutch. We painted the furniture a lovely yellow with sunflower transfers. Both of my girls love it.

In closing, the beds, tables, and chairs were fine for a beginner. If you are attempting any of the case-goods, you might need a grandpa too.

I don't have a lot of tools. My local store (the orange one) cut the wood to size for me, so we just needed to assemble it, sand it, etc. The first cut was free, and there was a nominal charge for the other cuts. The sweet gentleman who helped us liked the book. He is a grandpa, and is going to buy the book too.

I wish the case-good projects were a little easier. I also wish there were simple patterns for bed coverings and chair pillows. I am an experienced seamstress, but others may benefit from this in the next edition.

4 out of 5 stars good book but----.......2006-02-08

This is not a book for beginning wood workers.
Need a lot of different tools.

    Book Description

This lavishly illustrated and comprehensive volume is the first devoted entirely to the subject of Irish furniture and woodwork. It provides a detailed survey—encompassing everything from medieval choir stalls to magnificent drawing-room suites for the great houses—from earliest times to the end of the eighteenth century.
The first part of the book presents a chronological history, illustrated with superb examples of Irish furniture and interior carving. In a lively text, the Knight of Glin and James Peill consider a broad range of topics, including a discussion of the influence of Irish craftsmen in the colonies of America. The second part of the book is a fascinating pictorial catalogue of different types of surviving furniture, including chairs, stools, baroque sideboards, elegant tea and games tables, bookcases, and mirrors. The book also features an index of Irish furniture-makers and craftsmen of the eighteenth century, compiled from Dublin newspaper advertisements and other contemporary sources.

    Book Description

The eighteenth century in France saw the production of the world's most spectacular furniture. Curiously, there has been no major illustrated reference book for the general reader on this subject in over twenty-five years. This important new book fills that gap. An extensive introduction
explains the organization and historical background of furniture makers of the period, traces the evolution of taste and style, and explores the roles of both architects and designers. The author concludes with a study of contemporary dealers and public auctions at the end of the eighteenth
century. French Furniture Makers is illustrated with nearly 500 photographs, and includes a glossary of techical terms and a list of makers' marks reproduced to their actual size.

    5 out of 5 stars Stunning examination of 17th & 18th Century French Furniture.......2003-08-12

When I first saw this book in London just after it was first published it took my breath away. Being an ardent admirer of everything to do with 18th Century France my knowledge was already fairly extensive on this topic, however nothing prepared me for this lavish volumne filled with wonderfully researched information and the most glorious illustrations, often of pieces never publicly photographed before. I dont believe there has ever been a more comprehensive study on all the major Furniture Makers and Styles of French Furniture through the Golden Period of Pre revolutionnary France in the 17th and 18th Centuries. This book is still the number one reference material for all things to do with this highly creative period of furniture design in France, a period never equalled for creative design, innovative use of distinct materials by different artists, and with unsurpassed attention to detail in execution.

"French Furniture Makers" provides extensive chapters devoted solely to all the major furniture makers from the earlier 17th century masters such as Pierre Golle and Andre Boulle who were responsible for the first furnishings of Louis the Fourteenth's newly built Versailles, right through to the eve of the Revolution with Reisener's sublime creations for Queen Marie Antoniette. Each chapter is accompanied by eyefilling colour photos of examples of each master's work whether they be in public collections like the famed Wallace Collection, Louvre Museum or Palace of Versailles, or in numerous private collections. Many of the pieces also have photos provided of the masters furniture marks or historic inventory numbers from the Former French Royal Furniture Collections.Much time and research has also gone into mentioning the very active guilds that existed in France whether they be for gilders, wood workers or those involved in upholstery. Information is also passed on about the importance of the proper placement of furniture within the whole interior decoration of the french upper class home at this time. For any student of this period or for those who just love French arts in general this breathtaking book makes very informative and enjoyable reading.

For any lovers of Seventeenth and Eighteenth Century French Furniture and Decorative Arts this is a volumn that you cannot afford to pass up. It is one of my most treasured books in my extensive collection on furniture and the decorative arts and of France in general. The beauty of this book is that it can be enjoyed by those with little knowledge of this era of furniture making as well as by the seasoned student of this period like myself. I constantly discover new things when I reread it and marvel at the work it has taken to assemble all the information and photos contained here. A book I cannot recommend highly enough and the very best book on the furniture of Pre-Revolutionnary France. A true treasure.

    Book Description

Being on the migrational flyway for ducks and geese, the upper Chesapeake Bay has long been a center for waterfowl hunting. Where there is hunting, there are, of course, decoys. The area around Havre de Grace, Maryland has produced some of the most prolific decoy makers in America. Usually born of the necessity of the hunt, their decoys have become highly collectable. In Upper Chesapeake Bay Decoys and Their Makers, David and Joan Hagan share their talent for photography with the reader. They illustrate the art of the decoy makers in this area with beautiful images of the birds they have formed. Usually their decoys are accompanied by the portraits of the artists and recollections and reflections on their art and experiences. Over eighty decoy makers are represented in Upper Chesapeake Bay Decoys and Their Makers. Many of them are still alive and active in their work. The decoys illustrated range from early decoys, faded and worn smooth with use, to recent decoys which go directly from the artist to the collector without ever touching the water. All of them show the skill of the artist and evoke the appreciation that has made the decoy a central theme in American folk art.

great history of the old timers and younger decoy carvers and hunters, what a history to read, thats how it all started and is still alive to day, for time takes no toll on this art. the carver may pass over the bar but the decoys shall remain into the future.

1 out of 5 stars Way below my expectations.......2005-07-30

I got really disapointed when I received and read this book. It provides advanced techniques that a regular woodworker would never use. The parts that woodworkers use the most are vague. I'm not intereset in making violins or boats. I need techniques to bend wood, to use joints for curved surfaces, to build equipment and fixtures to bend wood and so on. This book lacks of the practical guidelines to do so.

If you are a new or an old hand to duck decoy collecting, this is an invaluable reference. The photographs are excellent and show both form and detail. This book is a classic guide, that many vintage decoy collectors and sellers use for identifying carvers of old decoys. Highly recommended by a decoy collector (me).

I like everything about woodturning. This book is no exception. You might also want to check the DVD Beyond Wood - Portrait of an Artist. You will see a lot of beautifully photographed pieces and interviews from years of research on the subject.

This book was very inspiring. I've made several projects similiar to what is in the book. My work has been praised. Although the designing, cutting of pieces of wood and aleining is challenging; the end results are well worth the efforts.

This book is extremely well written and easy to understand with its great attention to detail. The photos and writings in this book are very detailed from beginning to end. Its truly like taking a course having an instructor explaining to you its that well written. Read the book, the guy is a natural born teacher. The book is printed on high quality sturdy pages. the photos are great. The book is so well detailed that every doubt or question i had was always answered within a page and a half. no questions were unanswered. He tells you how to turn with minimal tools and without complex formulas. If your just starting out get this book it could save you lots of money time and heartache. this book could be used by intermediate turners as well. This is the most detailed and best written instructional book i have ever read with exception of an html book.

5 out of 5 stars Recommended for beginner.......2006-05-05

I just started turning segmented bowls 6 weeks ago - I started turning about 5 months ago. The turning club I joined recommended this book if I could only get one and Ray Allen's if I wanted two. I got both. Ray's seems more for advanced turners to me. This one sits by my table and I constantly refer to it as I'm building my first trys at segementing.
Highly recommend for a beginner like me. Helps you through all the tough spots and also helps to ask the right questions of other club members. If you don't belong to a club - join now.
