Book Description
A step-by-step guide to designing environmentally friendly commercial interiors.
Millions of people in the U.S. workforce rely on interior designers to create environments that make them happy and productive, as well as promote their safety and well-being. Sustainable Commercial Interiors provides an engaging introduction to and exploration of the vast field of sustainable design as it specifically relates to commercial interior spaces.
In Sustainable Commercial Interiors, coauthors Penny Bonda, a noted expert on interior design and sustainability, and Katie Sosnowchik, an interior design editor and innovator, share their passion for environmental advocacy while offering designers and architects the technical knowledge important for success in this evolving discipline. The authors apply the concept of environmental responsibility to the design of interiors, and employ the organization of the LEED Green Building Rating System(r) to sort the design process into five categories: sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy issues, materials, and indoor environmental quality.
Chapters explore:
- In-depth information about interior finishes and furnishings,
- Best contemporary examples of sustainable commercial interior design projects, including photos and drawings of the design,
- Outside-the-boundaries thinking about sites, water, and energy issues,
- Materials, with a strong emphasis on life-cycle thinking,
- Indoor environmental quality, including acoustics, thermal comfort, daylighting, and views,>
- Green design tools, including standards, certification programs, and specifications,
Based on the premise that designers, with their power to create, have responsibilities beyond others, Sustainable Commercial Interiors is a vital tool for both novice and veteran green-minded practitioners.

The Western Guide to Feng Shui.......2007-06-27
I purchased this book for a friend because I already had a copy. Its a straightforward compilation of the Feng Shui Bagwa map. I have several other books and they are complicated and confusing. This book lays out the theory and shares some stories of changing the decor according to the feng shui principles. I enjoyed reading it and I have enjoyed moving things around in my house.
Balance in your life.......2007-05-13
Feng Shui may not change your life, but if by taking the time to balance your surroundings, you also balance your life, isn't that something special? I am having fun with this just making my home more pleasant.
Just Ok.......2007-03-24
Most of the other reviews I've read must have been written by someone who has never read any Feng Shui books before. This book is OK for a beginner, but I borrowed some from my local library that were a bit older, but way better, and with much nicer pictures and more specific fixes and cures. I also bought the Room by Room from the same author and so far I'm a little disappointed. It has a lot of examples but it's not very well written, and it could use more illustrations, and even suggestions on where to buy the crystals and other cure items.
Not a bad read!.......2005-09-27
I have a hard time actually judging if these books are good or bad, being that I don't really have much of a Feng Shui background.
However, the book was easy to read and covered a lot of ground- especially if you wanted to know more about Bagua maps. The advice wasn't too out there, but the examples seemed a little over the top at times.
Overall, it wasn't a bad read, and if it doesn't work for you, then move the furniture again! :)
One of the best Feng Shui books I've found so far.......2005-01-05
Easy to read and has nice examples that help a lot in understanding the concepts

A must read book about the greatest American designers of the 20th Century........2006-01-15
Charles and Ray Eames were not only creative artistic talents, they were also commercial geniuses (just like George Nelson was). These two talents provided the secret for success that would reward them throughout their life. This book gives in debt view about the vast creative inspiration that Charles and Ray Eames had. It documents in detail how Charles and Ray Eames got their early start (working on projects for the army among others) and how they expanded their line with Herman Miller.
The book covers the entire span from 1940 to the 1970's.
And everything is included, from their early plywood chairs, art and films. The stills that the book includes from their films are truly wonderful. This is a wonderful coffee table book, a joy to browse through. If you like modern design I also suggest to visit the wonderful online archive about George Nelson at WWW.GEORGENELSON.ORG and also the museum archive from Verner Panton at WWW.VERNERPANTON.COM
A stunning visual record of a great American design team.......2001-10-21
This is THE book about Charles and Ray Eames. Beautifully printed and designed and with more than 3500 photos to explore the work, year by year, of these two famous designers. The range of work is amazing, furniture (domestic and commercial) films, exhibitions, architecture, books even toys. I have a set of their 1952 House of Cards, a deck of fifty-four playing-card size cards that can be interlocked to create three dimensional structures, a very simple idea beautifully conceived.
If I have a criticism it is that the book does not have an index and that makes refering to it rather frustrating.
I think the book easily reflects the joy and stimulation that Charles and Ray Eames got out of the creative process.
***FOR AN INSIDE LOOK click 'customer images' under the cover.
2005 REVIEW NOTE Many of the pages in the book are devoted to the short films Charles and Ray created, you can get thirty-five of these on a wonderful six DVD box set 'The Films of Charles & Ray Eames' (ASIN B0009S2K92) they are available individually but cost a lot more than the box.
The Definitive Text.......2001-04-14
An exceptionally comprehensive year-by-year summary of the work of the Eames Office from the early 1940s to the late 1970s. Covers everything equally -- from wartime plywood experiments and herman miller furniture to toys, exhibitions, and, of course, films. A must for anyone interested in Eames design. Full of hard-to-find information and photos of rarely seen items.
Excellent Survey of Eames Studio.......2000-07-31
This is an excellent survey of the work of the Eames studio. It provides a chronological survey of the furniture, films, exhibits, and other work of the studio. It even provides a listing of the Eames staff at each point and time. Lavishly illustrated, it provides photographs of furniture, exhibits, and stills from the over 100 films produced by the Eames's. Highly recommended as the one book you must have about their work.
Great!.......1999-08-22
Is the great book on Charles and Ray Eames I 've even read. The best book on my shelf. Even thought I can't afford to buy them all

Customer Reviews:
Not Practical.......2007-06-12
The idea is cute but no practical. Most companies do not let you go that extavagent because of company policy and fire codes. Also, they seem to be expensive to do. There were a few good ideas for cube decorating in general but not worth the purchase of the book unless you woud like to see the pictures. I am not sorry that I bought it, just a little disappointed that my first ever cubicle cannot have a fun theme.
Entertaining not practical.......2007-03-29
The book was entertaining to look at but the designs were too tacky and themed. I was hoping for less over the top ideas and something more practical and classy. Most of the design ideas would get the bosses upset or be the laugh of my neighbor cubies.
fun and clever ideas.......2007-03-16
I really loved looking at the cool pictures of cubes. I don't know how they come up with so many ideas! Definetely a book worth buying for great decorating ideas for a home office or at work.
This has great ideas!!!!!.......2007-01-29
A friend of mine purchased this book and I had to have it. You might not be able to decorate like in the book, but it gets you thinking about things you can do. It also gives you ideas that you could use in your home office.
Cubicle Book.......2007-01-21
It's okay. It's the type of book that you browse through once but not twice.
Book Description
Traditional office work, characterized by repetitive clerical tasks, is rapidly giving way to "knowledge work," characterized by the creative application and exchange of information. In response, architects around the world are leaving aside the old cubicle grid to design imaginative, high-tech offices that foster knowledge work and, at the same time, help workers balance the competing demands of colleagues, customers, and family. The forty-three exceptional workplaces profiled in this timely volume have all been completed within the last six years and serve a wide variety of organizations, both private and public, small and large. Examples range from the headquarters of an advertising firm where one enormous table seats all two hundred employees, facilitating communication, to a BMW plant where the factory production line runs through and above the administrative offices, unifying the corporate community.
The authors skillfully distinguish the primary trends in contemporary office design by dividing their engagingly written case studies among four chapters, each dedicated to a particular type of workplace. "Academies" encourage the sharing of knowledge within a corporate structure; "Guilds" allow the members of a profession to interact as peers; "Agoras" bring the workplace closer to the marketplace and to civic life; and "Lodges" combine the home and the office. Two hundred extraordinary color photographs and fifty architectural drawings show how the featured architects have configured public areas, meeting rooms, and private work spaces to meet the needs of today's increasingly versatile and mobile workers. The inclusion of an informative introduction, which outlines the economic and technological factors driving the rapid evolution of contemporary workplace architecture, further ensures that this attractive book will be an essential reference for everybody who has a hand in designing offices, and a thought-provoking read for everybody who works in one.

Radical is Right, It can also be Inexpensive.......2006-10-25
Having spent most of my working career in the computer business, I spent most of my working career in offices where the main concentration of effort was dull, dull, dull. One mindless cubicle after another.
I picked up this book for the first time when it was lying upside down. The back cover shows an office structure in Los Angeles where the cubicles were truly cubicles - well, actually they were rectangulers. They were made of a stack of shipping containers, 8 foot square, by however long. These things are cheap, strong and available everywhere. I've often thought they should be used for buildings. And inside the book you'll find a description of the building that uses them, providing finished offices at a cost of about $40 a foot.
While this building was in Los Angeles, the book features offices from around the world. This is good, because I've often felt that much of the rest of the world was ahead of us in design efforts.
This is a splendid book that I'd recommend to anyone thinking about building new offices. It is a clear presentation of what can be done, and how advanced design does not have to be expensive.
