Book Description
Tile has been transformed in the popular imagination from a pedestrian material to a sought-after design element. Home centers, specialty tile shops, and Internet sources offer the average homeowner an amazing range of mass-produced, handmade, and custom tile types made of materials including ceramics, natural stone, metal, and glass.
Organized by room, with chapters covering kitchens, bathrooms, living spaces, entries, and mudrooms, Tile Idea Book presents hundreds of photographs showing the effects created by all the major types of tile available today when installed in different settings: large rooms, such as kitchens, and small ones, such as bathrooms and entryways. It shows how color, pattern, and texture can be used to create special effects on floors and walls and provides specific information on how to recreate these effects. Also covered is the decorative use of tile in fireplaces and hearths, wainscoting, stairs, and halls, as well as in exterior settings such as terraces and patios.

Great book for my customers!.......2006-04-10
The Tile Idea Book by Andrew Wormer is my favorite book to show to my customers when they're struggling with what they want to do design-wise for their next tile job. We flip through the pages and get great ideas for kitchens, bathrooms -- just about any space where tile is the answer. This book was a very good investment. Grout Girl

Very beginner helpful.......2007-07-10
Never having installed tiling before, we felt it necessary to get so info before we started. Book seems to cover almost everything we needed. Still had a few questions about how to cut square holes in the middle of the tiles, how to correctly use nippers. Also needed to talk more about the current types of adhesives avail now. Overall helpful book and informative for the beginner.
Book Description
A comprehensive do-it-yourself tiling book that includes planning, designing, selecting, installing, and repairing.

Could have been a free pamphlet.......2006-04-14
I bought this book at Home Depot and returned it after a few hours upon finishing it. I could have got the same information from a free pamphlet. They ought to be ashamed. However, there were some nice pictures and I did learn a little bit, but it was just a super easy primer for the real thing. I didn't buy another book before tiling 900sf in my house. I wish I had bought a better book, as I learned all kinds of tricks "the hard way." Hint: Swimming after tiling all day can return your back to normal when it doesn't seem like anything else will help. I am now going to buy John Bridge's book before my next tiling job.
good.......2005-10-22
This is a good book for people who want to start tiling or for people who have stated but would like to get more ideas, help or tricks.
Ooooo... Pictures..........2005-03-17
This book is more or less useless on it's own. It tries to make tiling look really simple and straightforward. Tiling is actually not rocket science at all, but you really do need to spend time up front deciding what you are going to do. It isn't a weekend project. Get a real book written by someone who actually lays tile professionally and not just by people who sell the latest half-baked do it yourself supplies. I recommend "Tile Your Word" or "Setting Tile". Both top notch books. In fact, get both - given how expensive tile is it'll be worth the money.
This book does have some nice pictures of some steps though. That's about all I can recommend it for.
Book Description
From world-respected tile and stone manufacturer Ann Sacks, here is an inspirational, beautifully illustrated sourcebook of ideas for using these materials in new ways throughout the home.
Color, texture, pattern, and arrangement are important considerations in crafting the overall effect of a room with tile or stone. This book sets forth the options-plain glossy or patterned porcelain, translucent glass or hammered metal, limestone or terra-cotta-and illustrates the possibilities with lush photos of completed projects. An understanding of the cultural origins of tile and stone also helps in adding ambiance to different rooms. Sacks explores the materials that will invoke a foreign flavor, whether it is Tuscan stone flooring in an entryway or hand-painted Moorish tile in the kitchen.
Varieties of tile and stone exist to suit every taste and budget. Ann Sacks Tile & Stone offers a comprehensive guide to using these materials on large or small scale to add a sense of luxury, culture, and character to any home.

Elaborate, High End Tile and Stone.......2006-07-01
This book contains beautiful photographs of tile and stone used throughout the home, mainly in the kitchen and bath areas, but also floors, walls and fireplaces. Both tile and stone facades have very original, gorgeous designs and patterns, some I have never seen before.
Even though beautiful, most of the photographs depict elaborate designs that probably had an equally elaborate budget. LOL. For example, pg 35 shows a terra-cotta "reclaimed from French farmhouses and authenticated by the government to be at least 150 years old. Shown her is the rare blonde color mixed with the traditional russet." Some of the photos are of famous buildings such as the Louvre, Guell Park and Alhambra Palace.
It is wonderful to see the possibilities, and I am sure there is a way to achieve similar looks on a smaller budget. Don't get me wrong, there are still some very beautiful designs that are less costly (towards the end of the book), BUT it does seem focused more on those who have a large budget.
If you like colorful, unusual tiles and configurations, this book has it. If you also like the more traditional-looking tiles, you can find it in this book. The slate floor with the unusual pattern layout was one of my favorites (page 61). I do think the depiction of various tiles and especially patterns and layouts make this book definitely worth a look. "Tile and Stone" will give you ideas and open your world to the possibilities.
Ann Knows Her Stuff!.......2003-05-27
This is definitely an idea book. Every page is saturated with the
origin of these primitive materials; the enormous variety of uses
beginning with carved stone and earlier. If this book doesn't awaken your imagination, nothing will. These are the materials of the ages. I found it to be very exciting.

beautiful but lofty.......2000-08-14
The photos are beautiful as promised. But if you're really looking for a sourcebook of ideas for your home, as this one claims to be, you may be disappointed. This book treats stone and tile with nearly religious reverence; all I wanted was something nice for the kitchen! Some of the treatments are absurdly elaborate, and the text even analyzes the provenance of many of the stones. More creative people might find inspiration here, but for me it was much ado about nothing.
Unbelievable examples of tile.......2000-02-18
The pictures and ideas are amazing. I didn't know such things could be done with tile. The book saved me from running from retail store to store to get ideas. I almost didn't buy the book because of another reviewer saying it only has pictures of product from Ann Sacks stores. I personally don't care where the product came from, the pictures and ideas were great all by themselves!

Customer Reviews:
Great Book - A little Optimistic .......2007-07-07
This is a great book to read before selecting flooring materials as it provides a lot of valuable information on the installation, maintenance and repair of the floors. It also shows how different materials fit together.
There are step by step directions, but no time allowances for band-aids or such. They try to make it look like Joe Homeowner at work but there's not a beer can or half eaten hot dog in sight. However, there are a lot of shortcuts and very good advice on the things that usually take years to learn. There is also advice for those who need to heed the "Do Not Try This At Home". Sage advice not to undertake a major floorinig project just before a holiday with a family gathering.
Looking at some of the time allowances I think they are optimistic, even when adjusted for beginners.
Highly recommended.
horrible condition.......2007-03-22
the book itself was very good and informative but the condition that all these home depot books came in were USED/WORN and i purchased them NEW from your site. you shouldn't pawn off used books as new ones to loyal customers. you people really disappointed me because your merchandise is usually as advertised. really sad.

In addition, each featured pattern is shown with an alternative in modern styling or striking ethnic colourings. Full cutting, stitching, and making up instructions are provided for each design. Attractive, original, and full of inspirational ideas.
Customer Reviews:
Inspirational!.......2005-08-17
I highly recommend this book. I was completely spellbound the first time I looked at it. You may hear about copying floor tiles into a quilt pattern, but to see the actual end results is...well, amazing. These are some of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen, and the instruction to make one of your own are simple and very clear.
In short, it is one of the most inspirational books I have ever purchased. After reading it, I find myself discovering quilt patterns in more and more places.
This book definitely belongs in your quilting library.
this will open you eyes.......2005-07-04
to all sorts of inspiration around you.
after seeing the author on simply quilts, i decided this book would be worth checking out. so much so, i bought it.
the quilts are fabulous. some of the designs used extremely advanced piecing techniques to reproduce equally advanced tile and mosaid techniques. some quilts are shown in natural colors to recall the marble, and then in funky wild combinations to show that the designs are great as designs, not just as a floor design.
not perhaps for the absolute beginner, there are some patterns a quilter with one or two projects accomplished could make.
definitely belongs on your quilting bookshelf.
Multiple uses..........2004-11-16
You could use this book either to make the quilts she shows, or as an idea book. Porter gives detailed instructions for making quilts based on floor tiles, including pieced and fused techniques. It's one of those books that seems like a "niche" idea but actually teaches techniques of design, composition, and construction that can be used in many different ways. The pictures are clear and inspiring.

Book Description
Given the high prices that contractors charge for ceramic tile jobs, many homeowners would undoubtedly consider installing it themselves, if they had the proper guidance. Also in the last ten to fifteen years, tile used in new homes is often glued to nothing more than plasterboard. The life expectancy of this type of installation is generally less than two or three years, which means that homeowners must pay to have the tile torn out and redone-an expensive proposition. Now, John P. Bridge comes to the rescue, providing do-it-yourselfers with all of the information they need to complete ceramic tile projects with long lasting, professional results. Bridge begins with a brief discussion of the tools of the trade, materials required, and various types of masonry tile. Readers will then find easy-to-follow instructions for installing floors, tub surrounds, walls, and counter tops. Bridge takes readers step-by-step through the entire process, from surface preparation, layout, and design to setting the tile, grouting, and finishing

Highly recommended.......2005-02-27
I've never done any tile work and wanted to find out more about it. After reading this book, I feel like I can get started without a lot of confusion. For anyone wanting to learn more about tilework, even if your going to hire it done, this book is a must.
GREAT book on tile setting.......2005-02-01
I am planning a mud-set ceramic tile project and it was suggested that I buy this book. I did and it is a GREAT book; sure wish I had known about it several years ago when I did my first tile project! I recommend it to anyone starting a tile project. It's written in a way that most anyone can understand and the small cost is worth the time and potential mistakes that will be saved.
Comprehensive Help.......2003-10-05
If you are just starting out, or are wanting to learn more about the tiling do's and don'ts, then this book is for you.
As a DIY person, I found the book covered all those little details that other books didn't. And when it comes to tiling, it is all about detail.
It is written in a fun informative manner, and is easy to read and follow. If you buy one book only on tiling, this is the one to get.
Not well written.......2003-05-31
I purchased this book hoping to get valueable information on the understanding of tile work.In addition to aquire ideas that would benefit me in achieving such goals. This book I found to be poorly written, the examples (pictures)provided were outdated and poorly presented to say the least.
Save your hard earned money, this to me was Not worth the price !!
A Good Guide For Do-It-Yourself Tile Setters.......2001-10-02
I can't believe this book! I have learned more about tiling in the 3-4 hours it took me to read the book, than in the previous tile projects I have done. Mr. Bridge covers it all. I found the section on laying out a project worth the entire price of the book. By following his layout method, I have saved considerable time. Mr. Bridge uses humor, simple explanations, and a great knowledge of tiling to make a do-it-yourselfer feel comfortable about taking on a large project.
I am a Maintenance Superintendent for the largest publicly owned utility in the Nation. I have read way more manuals than I care to think about. Very seldom do I actually learn anything. This book covers not only the very basics, but also some of the more complex projects of tiling. It not only tells you what to do; it also explains why you want to do it. An excellent book I highly recommend to anyone. Just don't ask to borrow my book, BUY your own!
