BE CAREFUL!.......2007-10-01
My baby loves the pictures on this book, but be EXTRA CAREFUL! The flaps can easily be ripped off. My baby chewed the flap on this book and vomitted!
Cute first book.......2007-09-14
This book is good for babies around one years old. It is a nice change from all the animal books available. The reader can pull parts of clothing away from the book baby to reveal a nose, hands, toes etc. and the baby can compare his body part with the one in the book. The only thing that was a little off-putting to me was that the the babies in the book were mostly girls and I have a boy.
Loves It.......2007-08-27
My little absolutely loves these books. I have to read one or more of the everyday.
Very happy with this book.......2007-08-14
Very cute book that keeps my 7 month old daughter still and quiet when putting her down for a nap. She always fights sleep and it's hard to get her to lie still, but when I pull out this book, she is mesmerized while I read it to her. The flaps are easy to tear off, but I have so far been successful at keeping her from pulling on them.
better for older child.......2007-08-13
My toddler likes this book but has torn a lot of the flaps. I prefer the flap books that have a stronger flap not just paper.

A Huge Help!!.......2007-05-01
This book helped me to realize that I was not crazy. I was in a car accident in 2006 where I had to helplessly watch my friend die right in front of me. I was not injured in the wreck which caused me lots of guilt. I thought my life was falling apart until I saw a therapist and a psychiatrist and learned that I was suffering from PTSD. I am still suffering from PTSD but this book is teaching me that I am not the only person who has ever gone through this and that I just might get better from this. I keep this book beside my bed and read it every night. With this book and continued therapy and medication, I hope to be able to live life again some day.
Susan Ashley, Ph.D. Author of The ADD and ADHD Answer Book.......2005-10-08
As clinical and forensic psychologist I use this book in my practice with my clients who have experienced a trauma and are suffering from PTSD. This book is an excellent tool to educate trauma survivors about the symptoms they are experiencing and gives step by step tools and lessons to help overcome the symptoms of PTSD. After one experiences a trauma the psychological symptoms that come afterwards, often times months afterwards, can make the person feel as if they are going crazy. This book helps the trauma victim understand the predictable symptoms, the reason they exist and what to do to cope and eventually overcome them. This book helps trauma victims move from victim to survivor.
Great.......2005-09-02
I found this book to be easy to read and written in plain english. It will be a great source of information for my clients. It is not always easy to find a text that is user friendly for most levels. The author does a wonderful job incorporating all of the information in a way that is not intimidating to the average person.
From A Survivor..........2005-07-06
I survived sexual trauma and this book is a wonderful way to work through the pain, anger, and sorrow. It is not a quick fix book and you will be forced to deal with scary issues. A great read and very helpful!
Great book for learning about PTSD/ if you been frieghtened.......2004-10-25
I suggest the PTSD workbook for treatment, though. It is the best psychological self-help book I have ever read. We all have some degree of PTSD.
Book Description
This delightfully illustrated "chapter book," geared for eight-to-twelve year olds, tells the charming tale of five family members (each with a different sensory processing challenge) and their naughty dog, and how they get in sync after a tough day. The book is designed with the action of the story in larger print for younger readers to read or hear. Explanations of sensory processing disorders are woven through the story in regular type, for proficient readers to linger over at leisure.
This wonderful book from the best-selling author of The Out-of-Sync Child and The Out-of-Sync Child Has Fun, is a must-have for every family challenged by sensory processing problems.

The Good Enoughs Get In Sync.......2007-08-03
It was very interesting as the children in the story shared what activites help them get in sync. What was relaxing and what elements of the activities were useful to relaxation, organization etc. Although I did not notice the age group recomendation I will keep the book as it is useful to the parents and grandma and will become my grandson's book when it is more level appropriate. I say that because he is very advanced when it comes to stories and reading.
What a Help!.......2006-06-29
While my child is too young to read this book on his own, I know it will be helpful for him in the future. As a parent of a child with sensory issues, I found that it helped enhance my understanding of his issues immensely (e.g, what HE is experiencing on a daily basis and how it might make him feel). The more insight and understanding a parent has on these issues, the better you can help your child. I highly recommend purchasing it.
A fun book for kids with SID and extended family members..........2006-06-21
We really enjoy this book. It helps our daughter understand what is going on with her senses, and why we need to do heavy work acivities and other parts of her sensory diet. It is also the book we have shown her grandparents because it touches on a lot of definitions related to sensory integration, and gives examples of characters with the traits. I highly recommend you buy this for your child with SID and people who spend a lot of time with your child.
The Goodenoughs Get in Sync Review by Lisa Angel.......2005-03-03
The Goodenoughs Get in Sync by Carol Stock Kranowitz was a great book to read because it so helpful in the classroom. Many times we think that a child is just being mean or annoying when in reality it is a sensory disorder and the child can not help it. I felt the definitions provided to certain words such as sensory under-responsivity, auditory defensiveness and visual defensiveness, to name a few, were extremely enlightning. My son has a friend who has a sensory disorder. I didn't know about the disorder until he came over to spend the night. When it came time to go up the stairs to my son's bedroom he began to freak out. Of course, I called his mom and she explained everything to me and I began to understand. This is a wonderful book to recommend to her. I also enjoyed reading about each family member and how the sensory disorders varied so much. However, each had their own issues to deal with, they really stuck together as a family and supported one another. Even the dog had sensory issues. I would really recommend this book to teachers so that they have better sense of some of the behaviors that go on in the classroom.
The Goodenoughts Get In Sync.......2005-01-17
It is NOT AMAZING to me that Carol Kranowitz has done it again! I know how LIFE CHANGING her book: The Out-of-Sync Child was for me and for my son! That book made LIGHT BULBS go off in my head and I was able to read it inserting my son's name on every page after I had read page number two! Her resources brought HOPE and took away so much self-doubt, guilt, fear, sadness, frustration, etc...! All of her books are something I could put my hands around, my head into and helped open my heart! Her books CHANGED my life and changed "WHO" my son is FOREVER! Doctors, parent, teacher, grandparents,etc...need to read this book as well and share it with the children they are trying to understand/help! Perhaps they will see themselves on these pages?
BRAVO CAROL!

During a traditional Quaker meeting, the Friends sit in silent meditation. No one speaks unless they are moved to do so through the "still, small voice" of God within. As a result, spoken words are often spare, clear, and wise. A Quaker Book of Wisdom reads like the voice of a Sunday morning meeting. Author Robert Lawrence Smith is a lifelong Quaker and former headmaster of the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C. (Chelsea Clinton's former alma mater). Reflecting on topics such as silence, simplicity, business, and family, Smith offers guidance on how to "let your life speak"--an important premise to the Quaker life of service. Smith's humble self-disclosures make this slim book especially endearing and accessible. In the chapter "Conscience," he divulges battlefield horrors that rival those in Saving Private Ryan--images that still haunt him long after he chose to fight fascism during World War II instead of becoming a conscientious objector, as many Quakers did. In the next chapter, "Non-Violence," Smith writes of an eye-opening shopping trip to Toys R Us where the action-figure warmongers are far more attractive to his grandson than the checkers game they were planning to purchase. In the final chapter, Smith offers "Ten Life Lessons" that he wishes someone had shared with him when he was growing up. Indeed, these lessons are even more valuable and certainly more provocative than the ones we learned in kindergarten. --Gail Hudson
Book Description
"The most valuable aspect of religion," writes Robert Lawrence Smith, "is that it provides us with a framework for living. I have always felt that the beauty and power of Quakerism is that it exhorts us to live more simply, more truthfully, more charitably."
Taking his inspiration from the teaching of the first Quaker, George Fox, and from his own nine generations of Quaker forebears, Smith speaks to all of us who are seeking a way to make our lives simpler, more meaningful, and more useful. Beginning with the Quaker belief that "There is that of God in every person," Smith explores the ways in which we can harness the inner light of God that dwells in each of us to guide the personal choices and challenges we face every day. How to live and speak truthfully. How to listen for, trust, and act on our conscience. How to make our work an expression of the best that is in us.
Using vivid examples from his own life, Smith writes eloquently of Quaker Meeting, his decision to fight in World War II, and later to oppose the Vietnam War. From his work as an educator and headmaster to his role as a husband and father, Smith quietly convinces that the lofty ideals of Quakerism offer all of us practical tools for leading a more meaningful life. His book culminates with a moving letter to his grandchildren which imparts ten lessons for "letting your life speak."

Lessons in Simplicity, Service and Common Sense.......2007-07-05
This book is excellent. If you want to read something that makes you think, this is a great book for you!
Profound book about a profound spiritual teaching.......2007-05-07
Reading this book, I thought that there is as much here for the Buddhist or the Taoist as there is for the Friend. Perhaps this is because what lies at the core of each of the world's faiths is the unifying message of mysticism. Quakerism comes as close to mysticism in religion as you're likely to find in the West. The author's account of Quakerism as well as how the inner sought spirit informs his life is deeply profound and inspiring.
A deeper understanding to what faith is all about.......2006-10-13
As an old/new member of the Quaker faith this book was not just some shallow sayings, with washed up meanings, but instead it was truly amazing! I have a heritage of Quakers within my family and I found this to be a worthwhile read. While some have labeled this a liberal book, with liberal Quaker views, I would argue that the theology and basis of Quakerism is to see the light in every person regardless of creed or religion. Smith does an excellent job of reinforcing these ideals for me, and furthermore makes it clear in each chapter what is expected of those who are Quakers. Simply, it comes down to a choice ocean of light or darkness, and I chose the light with the help of this great book.
A Breath of Spiritual Fresh Air.......2005-08-09
This little book is clear, thought-provoking, and most of all, inspiring. I have recommended it to all my friends and I have purchased it as a gift for one. How refreshing to be exposed to wisdom as opposed to indoctrination and dogma. It is a breath of spiritual fresh air.
A so-so book..........2005-04-16
This book is not a bad book per se (I'd give it three and a half stars if that were possible), but it definately leaves out A LOT of information. I'm taking it upon myself to give the rest of the information the book should have given, in four major points:
1) This book represents just one type of Quakerism, namely the Liberal Quakers, and the author himself is from the liberal end of the Liberal Quakers. That's not a bad thing in and of itself, but it should have been pointed out on the book, or somewhere in the description. Most Quakers in the world today are Christian and we always have been a Christian Society. Many of the values this book discusses are debatable at best and do not represent Quakerism as a whole. That's why I think it could have been called "A Liberal Quaker Book Of Wisdom" or "A Hicksite Quaker Book Of Wisdom". If that's what one is looking for, great--but it should be made known before the book is purchased, I feel.
2) The "life lessons" in this book are actually just essays (more or less) loosely on different topics by the author. The book kind of portrays itself as a whole volume, i.e., one that is more "solid", but it could have been published as a bunch of little books as well.
3) The school that the author used to head, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., is one of the most expensive day schools in the county (and probably in the world). Mainly politicians' kids and children of important public figures go there--precious few Quaker kids could ever afford it. That isn't mentioned at all in the essay on simplicity and it really should have been. His former status of head of the school is used as a selling point of the book, but in my view, it doesn't tell the whole story for those not familiar with Sidwell Friends School.
4) It doesn't really contain that much information. The book itself is very small and square shaped, and it is printed in large font with what looks (to me) to be double-spaced or nearly double-spaced lines. The cover (on the softcover version) is actually rather thin, even for a softcover book, and prone to ripping. I personally feel that even $9 is too much to pay for this book.
In conclusion, I really don't like to give a negative review of a Friends' book, but this one is less than excellent and in many ways does not tell the whole story.
If a person is new to Quakerism or just looking for general Quaker infomation, I would whole-heartedly recommend Wilmer A. Cooper's book, "A Living Faith" (ISBN 0944350534). It is truly one of the better Quaker books written in recent years. It addresses both Liberal and Orthodox Quakerism as well as other groups such as Conservatives and Independent Meetings. It far excels this one in just about every way, but it does cost a few dollars more (it's a much larger book).
Book Description
Trees are the ultimate sunlight-harvesting machines. The care and nurturing of trees has been a recurring theme in Chelsea Green's publishing program, from The Man Who Planted Trees to Julia Alvarez's A Cafecito Story. Here is a book that foregoes romance in favor of straightforward, practical knowledge. Twenty-five years ago, when Hans Morsbach became interested in cultivating trees and managing small woodlands, he searched for a good how-to manual. He never found one, so he decided to write his own someday. Based on his subsequent experience, combining deep research into the academic literature on forestry with his successes and failures as a small-scale commercial tree farmer, the result is Common Sense Forestry, an indispensable reference for anyone who owns or wants to own wooded property. Morsbach is an unabashed nature lover as well as a businessman, and well understands the essential importance of a long-term approach to sustainable forest management. In this highly readable and entertaining text, the author offers a comprehensive look at managing existing woodlands by creating, and later maintaining, forests that promote biodiversity while providing an income stream. This comprehensive examination of sustainable forestry includes everything from choosing land to beginning a forest through seeding and transplanting, from pruning and thinning to harvesting trees, from debates over herbicides and clearcutting to working with professional foresters, from business strategies to tax planning. While Morsbach's personal experience is in the Midwest, the information in this book is applicable to a wide range of trees and is relevant to all regions of North America.
Customer Reviews:
The Tree That Made My Copy.......2007-05-06
. . . gave its life for a good cause.
This is the most important book on my shelves as I "manage" my 75 Virginia woodland acres.
I like Morsbach's maverick approach to forestry, in particular the emphasis he places on aesthetic and environmental considerations. Once again, the committed, thoughtful individual trumps a whole barrel full of clipboard-carrying "experts."
The book contains multiple grammatical errors that are slightly distracting to me, a former editor, but otherwise entirely trivial.
Common Sense Forestry.......2007-03-09
Anyone with a desire to manage a small timber parcel would do well to buy this book. I manage a small woodlot and took a 30 hour forestry management class from my state's forestry department. The knowledge gained from reading this book complements that course as well as anything I've come across so far. Both add practical insight into effective silviculture practices. This book gives the reader a practical approach to managing a woodlot or timber parcel profitably. Recommended.
Highly readable - a pleasure to read.......2006-03-27
This is a highly readable book. The author generously shares his considerable knowledge in language that makes the text easy to understand. Everything about it is well done: the book is well-organized and well written, with beautiful illustrations.
It's a pleasure to read, even for someone who will never grow a forest.
Handbook for the new forester and a delight for anyone else.......2004-10-26
This is a book for anyone who likes to read about someone's interesting life or observations, for anyone who likes to get a glimpse of a good man's mind and heart, for anyone who enjoys seeing things in a new way, and--of course--for anyone who owns or may buy wooded property. For the latter, it is an indispensable guide. For the rest of us, it is both delightful reading and consciousness-raising.
Hans Morsbach, a Chicago businessman and (for the past 30 years) also a Wisconsin forester, provides all the practical advice to amateur foresters he would have liked to have had 30 years ago. The book is full of practical suggestions and insights; however, it is anything but a dry how-to book. Morsbach is often funny, particularly when he shares his early naivete and many false starts, or, say, when he notes under a picture of a hawk perch that the hawks express their admiration by never perching on it.
He is also deadly serious, offering many insights and suggestions based upon his own intensive research, such as the use of hedgerows to enhance the success of any crop. A new insight for me (with no intention of ever starting a forest or growing any crops) was that lone individuals can do something worthwhile for the environment by buying and cultivating even small wooded properties.
But what is so remarkable is that Morsbach writes with such humility, honesty, and love--of humanity, of nature, and of his own learning experiences. He writes in clear simple candid language with an uncanny ability to let the reader see into the heart and mind of a savvy businessman who loves nature and cares about our environment. He has clearly raised the bar for practical guide books.
Awesome.......2004-08-20
If you are interested in the subject, this book is an easy read and will be as hard to put down as your favorite novel.
I'm about half way through and I'm not looking forward to being done. I will definitely use it for future reference.
Book Description
What really goes on in a man's mind? How does he perceive the world, and how does that perception differ from a woman's view of reality? And how can knowing what a husband, son, father, or male colleague is really like help a woman succeed in her relationships with the male half of the species? Dr. Kevin Leman gives women an up-close and personal look at how the "other half" thinks, feels, and behaves. Topics include: understanding the male sex drive, understanding the boy your husband once was (and in some ways still is), and what makes a husband fulfilled, working with the male ego, advice for single and divorced women, and building a stronger relationship with your father. Leman says, "This is a hard-hitting book that finally tells it like it is. Half the women who read it probably won't believe it, but the half who take it to heart will have very grateful husbands who will return the love tenfold!"
Customer Reviews:
Incredibly realistic and helpful.......2007-08-05
I read this book to get a better idea of what makes men tick, since I was getting married and was raised in a primarily female family. This book is full of true and helpful information. This book has helped to give me a fulfilling and satisfying marriage. By giving my husband the sex, attention, affection, playfulness, respect, and honest praise that he yearns for, he's given me everything I need and more!
As to the comment the other reviewer made about your husband having two hands of his own... yes, he does, and if you give him a break now and again, maybe he'll use them on you as a completely unselfish treat. If you read any of his other books, you'll notice that he has a sense of humor and great respect, admiration, and love for his wife... there is no disrespect in his jokes. And the part at the ballgame with Moonhead? I love the idea of my husband recognizing that lusting after another woman is cheating and the idea of him having a friend he can admit it to and be held accountable by.
In Reality, This is a Great Book...and We Live in Reality.......2006-08-27
I can't say enough about this book. I am almost finished after having it only 3 days. I am a Christian, and found this book a great guideline on how to deal with issues with my husband. I felt like my husband and I were having the same fight over and over again, with no positive outcome. With Dr. Leman's help, I now see my husband's perspective with deeper insight.
I don't understand some of the previous reviewers. If you already think you know the answers to your problems, why are seeking help from Dr. Leman's book? I think some of the comments were based on stubborn ideas, ideas that didn't want to change. If you are wanting someone to validate your thoughts and be "on your side", do not read this book. This book is to help give you your husband's, father's, and son's perspective...not your own.
Anyone seeking some help (with humor), this book will benefit you.
Kudos, Dr. Leman! Again, a job well done.
The Way Men Are.......2004-12-08
As a pastor who counsels many couples, I have found this book useful to help women face the realities about the male of the species. I have seen marriages rejuvinated in certain instances.
Although the author could have been more tactful, he brings home the real facts of life about men and particularly the importance of frequent sex for men. True, not all men fit Leman's mold, but most do. Of course, men will not always admit to being as Leman describes becasue they fear their wives will reject them.
The genders have to learn to accept one another even if they really cannot understand one another.
This is not a cure all for all marriage problems, but it will help enhance many marriages. If nothing else, women will read a real-life explanation as to how most men work. Whether they believe it or not is another issue.
True Facts from a Condescending Author.......2004-08-14
Mr. Leman may be a good man and he may have some insight into men, but his writing style is ruthlessly condescending. I am in chapter one and doubt I'll keep going.
Whether or not the following is true, this is what it the book has been like for me: it seems as though Mr. Leman is assuming that the women reading this book are stubbornly thinking, "Hah! I know all there is to know about men!" and that he's trying to convince all of us as to how wrong we are. His presumption is appalling; I get the feeling that he feels that we women not only know almost nothing about men, but we are also beligerent in our will to cling to this ignorance! He's guilty of name-dropping (unnecessarily pointing out that James Dobson and Gary Smalley are "good friends" of his), and he just keeps on phrasing his sentences and crafting his arguments in a "There, there, little darling, I know this will shock you, but you must hear the truth" kind of way.
For the practical information (so far), I'd give him a four, maybe, but for condescention I'd rate this a negative ten. It really is that bad. I'm going to look for other books on this topic that aren't so nearly degrading to read.
Leman "SHOULD" not have said that.......2003-11-12
This began as a very eye-opening book--it presented some things I never in a million years realized about my husband. By about mid-book, however, I began to get REALLY TICKED OFF. Yes, it is my duty and honor as a wife to make my husband happy. I don't care what Leman says, however, I do not have to be his sexual slave and perform a sexual revolution in my home on a weekly basis just to please my husband. What offended me the most? Probably when he said in essence, "I know some nights you're really tired and sex is the last thing you want to involve yourself with so give your husband a hand job, you'll only have to lay there and it will feel incredible to him." I'm sorry, but I don't buy into his notion that men must have sex three to five nights a week or they will cheat on their wives. Grow up, be a big boy and get over it!
Then there was the astonishingly cruel diatribe with his wife. Leman was saying women "SHOULD" on their husbands to much and to prove his point he went into this story about his wife Sande and he visiting a restaurant in which he always orders the same thing. She politely said, "You should try something different." And his reply? "Or maybe I should try out a new wife!" COME ON! The poor woman must have felt horrible, but yes, Leman, I'm sure she got your big, egotistical point.
Oh, and let's not forget his joking around with Moonhead about "committing adultery" because he couldn't take his eyes off some chick at a football game. Haha. That was hilarious. His wife must be Mother Theresa.
Yes, I believe him that men NEED sex to feel loved, just as women need affection and caring and sex to feel loved. But unlike his list of "must dos", I refuse to meet my husband at the end of our driveway without any clothes on, I don't think taking naked photos of myself and putting them in his briefcase is necessary, and rather than "exploring ideas outside of my sexual comfort zone" I think I'll do what I feel is right, not what some man's unrealistic fantasies dictate. I can't believe this book--it's clear he feels women are around to please, care for and obey. And that's it. I'm a mother, I have my own career and I have a dynamite sex life, without feeling I need to be my husband's personal sex slave.
So Kevin Leman, I love your views on parenting, daddy's an daughters and raising boys, but I think I'll stick to my own views on sex in my marriage. And as for the hand jobs ... God gave you hands of your own. Have at it!

Book Description
A Portable Identity: A Woman's Guide to Maintaining a Sense of Self While Moving Overseas, Revised Edition, is written by two former expatriate spouses who are also counselors. The book educates and empowers expatriate spouses to take charge of the changes in identity that occur during an international relocation. The most profound change a woman will experience when she moves overseas in support of her husband's career comes from within herself, to her own sense of identity. With two, three, or more years of an overseas assignment, a woman faces the formidable task of creating a life for herself in an unfamiliar country. Unlike any other book about overseas living, this book explains with clarity, candor and compassion, how each stage of the move affects a woman's identity. A Portable Identity is an interactive book with practical exercises and inspiring stories. It is designed to be a companion and guide for the woman who wants to know how her identity is affected at each stage of the move, from pre-departure to arrival, and while living overseas. The book also explains why the thoughts and feelings she may experience as an expatriate spouse are normal within the context of so much change, and how she can use the steps of The Wheel to shape her identity in a way that honors her sense of self while living in a foreign country and culture, as well as during repatriation. A Portable Identity is essential reading for military, corporate, non-governmental organization, missionary, and foreign service spouses. By learning how to take charge of change, a spouse can make choices for a happier and more meaningful life overseas. The result is a more successful transition to life abroad and a more "portable" identity that can thrive away from home. A Portable Identity is also a valuable resource for professionals, including human resource managers, international relocation specialists, employee assistance professionals and therapists. The book provides them with critical information that they can utilize to better assist the accompanying spouse during an international move...

Great working tool for real life experiences!.......2006-06-03

A Portable Identity: A Woman's Guide to Maintaining a Sense, June 28, 2004
Reviewer: J (Washington, D.C) - See all my reviews
Anyone ever to encounter and navigate the endless and exhaustive details involved with moving and living overseas will appreciate the meticulous care and thought that went into this primer. The exercises and for planning for and understanding the different stages, emotions and thought processes that accompany such a move are terrific, not just for the move itself, but for a very effective and smooth assimilation of this kind of life-changing experience.
I will be giving this one to many of my friends who are also contemplating living and working overseas.
Should be on every expat's book list!.......2006-02-18
Even though I didn't have any apparent serious difficulty with adjusting to my first expat experience, working through this book provided amazing insights to what had helped me as well as revealed some unknown areas where I needed to do some internal re-evaluation.
This is an exceptional tool that should be given to every expat woman (first time OR long time) by corporate HR departments or government agencies as soon as an expat assignment is anticipated. Although you can work through some sections as soon as you learn about an expat assignment, you will gain just as much even if you begin after moving... or years into your expat experience!
Working through "A Portable Identity" you feel as if you are in a small group discussion with Debra and Charise (the authors). By honestly sharing their own experiences and feelings, it enables the reader/writer to jumpstart her own evaluations. Especially for an expat in a location where there may not be many other support mechanisms, this is an invaluable tool.

No, you are not going crazy!.......2005-09-28
Like many other women who accompany their husbands overseas, I started to think I was going crazy! But, after attending a workshop facilitated by the authors, I realized what I was feeling was completely normal. By using the skills and exercises that Debra and Charise illustrate in their book, you can get back on your feet and transition into your new lifestyle overseas.

Baby-approved.......2007-10-14
This has been our baby's favorite book from the age of 6 months on, which is why we are buying another copy, as she has succeeded in ripping the others to shreds. While not Shakespeare, the text has a nice rhythm and offers a nice overview of the activities of babies (including a sequence in which a baby learns to walk, with each image showing the child slightly older) while the art is completely winning, really capturing the expressions and feelings of various children. Charming and fun, I would suggest it highly to small children that get excited when they see other babies.
Babies Delight.......2007-06-02
Filled with the actions and activities that comprise the lives of babies, the text is verb filled, "Stand, wobble. Sway, wobble. Bump! Step, walk, toddle." It also frequently rhymes. The rhythmic prose is scattered across the pages with absolutely charming illustrations of babies and toddlers.
On pastel pages, babies of all sizes, shapes and colors are drawn in soft pencil. Some of the babies reappear in different guises as the pages are turned. Babies are difficult to draw. Just consider the babies
in famous painting across the years. This artist not only knows babies in all their guises, not always happy,he can flat out draw them. In one double-page spread, the naked baby is not only life-size, one wishes to
sweep the baby up.
Look at This! A Sweet Baby Book.......2007-02-03
Babies' bodies do amazing things. In this gorgeous picture book, young children can enjoy exploring a few of these things with their parents. Fingers, toes, hair and nose, there are many ways babies use their bodies. Don't forget the diapers, too!
The sweet illustrations and gentle prose in this book make it a winner. Babies and toddlers will enjoy seeing other babies and toddlers, while preschoolers will love to see what they were like not so long ago. Parents, friends, and relatives who read this book to their warm lap-bundles will smile at the tenderhearted pages as much as their children.
This book is cute, sweet, and sure to be a hit.

Book Description
Most people think summer is the warmest season. This story, however, is brimming with evidence to the contrary--from roaring fires to grilled cheese sandwiches to toasty flannel pajamas. A unique twist on the traditional wintertime picture book, the beautiful visual narrative follows a boy and his family though a day of hot breakfasts, steaming afternoon cocoa, and a festive candlelit party before bed.
With its inviting scenes, poetic text, and gorgeous illustrations, Winter Is the Warmest Season celebrates all the wonderful things that make winter the coziest time of the year.

A Tour de Force in Any Season!.......2007-04-27
What's that you say...Winter is the WARMEST season?! NOOO--how can that be?!
Ms. Lauren Stringer answers skeptics and pre-schoolers alike with this lavishly illustrated and imaginatively written book. It's going to make my list of top 20 books read in 2007, because Stinger's case for winter is both compelling and beautiful. The premise would engagte any toddler or early grade schooler, but Stringer runs confidently with it, writing as captivating and luscious a book as I've read in quite some time.
If you've read the other reviews and product description, you'll know that both the practical (warm clothing) and the emotional (warm feelings) effectively contradict what the thermometer tells us. However, it's the way that Ms. Stringer tells the story that makes all the difference. It's a very active book, both in the active (as opposed to passive) voice, and the way she animates the objects that warm us. The young narrator doesn't merely say he put on a warm hat and coat; instead, he tells us, "my hat grows earflaps," and "my jacket puffs warm with feathers." Later, the boy's pajamas "will grow big warm feet." Winter doesn't rest here, it's alive and full of possibilities. (Actually, one skillful illustration shows assorted animals hibernating underground, while above, the "the snowman I build dance on top, wearing warm wraparound scarves.")
Transformations continue: "My iced summer's milk turns to hot chocolate. Cold jelly sandwiches turn into grilled cheeses." Throughout her book, Ms. Springer's imagery and language are spectacular:
"When winter comes,
summer's cool fans hide
in dark basements...
while sleeping rasiators awake
to their dragon selves, banging
and hissing and pouring heat
all through my house."
This is pure poetry, and belies any thought that writing really good books for kids can be done by just anyone. I mentioned the emotional warmth that the book conveys, and we feel this in cats who sit on laps, and in festive, candle-lit parties with music ansd dancing and warm, festive clothing, snuggling and reading in bed with your parents and your cat, and later with your teddy bear. A surprise tops it off, in winter the boy might just dream of summer..."just to cool me off!"
The acrylic on watercolor paper illustrations are just as rich and inviting as the prose, with action and bold patterns and a varied palette (although warm colors abound.) A tour de force, in any season.
A story that warms you!!.......2007-01-30
This is a wonderful story about all the different ways that make winter warmer than any other season. It starts off by stating that most people think summer is the warmest season and then continues to list the ways that winter is actually warmer(hot cocoa, thick blankets, fireplaces, hot baths, ect.) My daughter who is two really enjoys this book, but I think that I actually like it even more than she does. The illustrations are beautiful and the story even makes me warm inside on those snowy below zero days.

Hands Down - my daughter's favorite!.......2005-03-04
We actually checked this book out from the library, and while I didn't think my 16-month-old daughter would be super impressed with this book, she proved me wrong. For the past 2 weeks, it's the book she demands to be read to her very first, before all other books. If it looks like she's not in the mood for book time, all I have to do is get this book out and she will instantly calm down and sit still for every single page. She loves mimicing the pictures: smearing finger paints, giving hugs, pat-a-cake, peek-a-boo, and waving hello and goodbye. She loves pointing to all the hands she can find, and since reading this book, she has taken a very keen interest in hands and fingers, which leads us to be able to practice counting our fingers. I would recommend this book to anyone, it's sure to be a favorite!

"Hands can clap while voices sing. Hands can do all kinds of things." Hands Can, by author Cheryl Willis Hudson and photographer John-Francis Bourke, is a celebration of the wonder of little hands.
Hands Can describes and shows children using their hands in a variety of activities. It also shows a variety of hands. There are girl hands, boy hands, toddler hands, "big-kid" hands and hands of many races.
Young children will love Hands Can, with its simple, rhyming text, bright colors and delightful photographs depicting children having fun with their hands. They will want to wave hello like the little boy in beginning of the story. They will want to play Peekaboo like the little girl near the end. They will want to read this book again and again.
Best book ever!.......2004-03-17
The book was well laid out and very enticing for your readers. THe spread on the middle page with the kids hugging 'I love you was excellent!
Great work!
What an awesome book!.......2003-12-18
This is a wonderful book with lots of pictures showing kids doing all kinds of activities like playing ball, planting seeds, etc...and the text is easy to follow for my 14-month old son. He LOVES this book and will go through a huge box of books to find this and will then come sit on my lap so I can read it to him for the 100th time that day. Get this book - it's very kid-friendly.
I love this book!.......2003-08-21
It's a beautiful example of how some wonderful words can sing with amazing photography of children. The layout of the book is bold & bright and an instant eyecatcher. The photos capture the joy of the children as if you were right there with them. My 3 year old loves to follow along & point out all the activities on the pages. Just great! Highly recommended!
