Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

This book has two big advantages: In my personal view it is written well for someone who has at least some basic statistical understanding and for me there are quite enough practical examples and illustrations of the chosen methodology. The second advantage in my opinion is its wealth of references at the end of every chapter.

Overall it covers almost all of the relevant methods and thus can be considered as a reference for the experienced statistician and as an easily comprehensible introduction to the beginner.

I think to recommend this book warmly to any reader who does not need the theoretical foundations of probability in meta-analysis.

    Book Description

Many statistics texts tend to focus more on the theory and mathematics underlying statistical tests than on their applications and interpretation. This can leave readers with little understanding of how to apply statistical tests or how to interpret their findings. While the SPSS statistical software has done much to alleviate the frustrations of social science professionals and students who must analyze data, they still face daunting challenges in selecting the proper tests, executing the tests, and interpreting the test results. With emphasis firmly on such practical matters, this handbook sets forth clear guidelines for performing specific statistical tests with SPSS and interpreting the output. The author clearly explains the purpose of each test and the research designs for which they are relevant, demonstrates the execution of the tests, and explains how to interpret the results obtained. The presentation covers not only the point-and-click Windowsä method of using SPSS, but also the syntax method, which provides users with the power and flexibility to deal with complex experimental designs. All chapters include the full SPSS output of the test being addressed and the step-by-step interpretation of the results. All of the data sets used in the examples along with the SPSS code are freely available for download at www.crcpress.com. Armed with the knowledge, tools, and experience this handbook provides, social scientists, both student and professional, can maximize the utility of SPSS, choose the right statistical tests with confidence, and more accurately and appropriately interpret their results.

This book has been a life-saver. Its clear and concise about most of the main techniques you might need for analyzing your data. Its written as a practical guide to help you understand which statistical procedure to use. I'm a PhD student in Epidemiology and this is the book that really helped clear my concepts about the various statistical techniques and most importantly how and when to use them. All the classes I took in advanced mathematical statistics were full of jargon and theoretical stuff. This book is what helped me really understand the various techniques. Consider it a like a Dummies Guide to Practical Statistics..... I hope the author writes another book called SPSS for Advanced Statistics.

5 out of 5 stars Well Designed Intro to Statistical Aspect of Clinical Trials.......2004-07-08

Statistical Aspects Of The Design And Analysis Of Clinical Trials Revised edition by Brian S. Everitt, Andrew Pickles (Imperial College Press: World Scientific) About 8000 clinical trials are undertaken annually in all areas of medicine, from the treatment of acne to the prevention of cancer. Correct interpretation of the data from such trials depends largely on adequate design and on performing the appropriate statistical analyses. In this book, the statistical aspects of both the design and analysis of trials are described, with particular emphasis on recently developed methods of analysis.
According to Sir David Cox, the randomized controlled clinical trial is perhaps the outstanding contribution of statistics to 20th century medical research. Nowadays about 8000 such trials are undertaken annually in all areas of medicine from the treatment of acne to the prevention of cancer. Although the vast majority of these trials take place away from the glare of public interest, some deal with issues that are controversial enough to make even the popular press; an obvious example is the use of AZT for the treatment of AIDS.
There are many excellent books available which give comprehensive accounts of how clinical trials should be carried out and organized. The aim of this book is different; the authors attempt to give relatively concise descriptions of the more statistical aspects of the design and analysis of clinical trials, particularly those methods developed over the last decade or so. Topics discussed in this text include randomization, interim analyses, sample size determination, the analysis of longitudinal data, Bayesian methods, survival analysis and meta-analysis. Many examples are included alongside some of the necessary technical material, the more difficult parts of which are confined to tables. An Appendix gives details of relevant software. The book should be useful to medical statisticians and others faced with the often difficult problems of designing and analyzing clinical trials.
The controlled clinical trial has become one of the most important tools in medical research and investigators planning to undertake such a trial have no shortage of excellent books to which to turn for advice and information. But unlike the many other books dealing with clinical trials, this text is primarily concerned with the statistical issues of certain aspects of their design (Chapters 2 and 3) and, in particular, their analysis (Chapters 4 to 10), rather than their day-to-day organization. This restriction will enable us to give fuller accounts of some recently developed methods that may be particularly useful for the type of data often generated from clinical trials. Some details of the software available that implements the methods described will be given in the Appendix.

      Book Description

Multivariate analysis is an important tool for social researchers, but the subject is broad and can be quite technical for those with limited mathematical and statistical backgrounds. To effectively acquire the tools and techniques they need to interpret multivariate data, social science students need clear explanations, a minimum of mathematical detail, and a wide range of exercises and worked examples. Classroom tested for more than 10 years, The Analysis and Interpretation of Multivariate Data for Social Scientists describes and illustrates methods of multivariate data analysis important to the social sciences. The authors focus on interpreting the pattern of relationships among many variables rather than establishing causal linkages, and rely heavily on numerical examples, visualization, and on verbal , rather than mathematical exposition. They present methods for categorical variables alongside the more familiar method for continuous variables and place particular emphasis on latent variable techniques. Ideal for introductory, senior undergraduate and graduate-level courses in multivariate analysis for social science students, this book combines depth of understanding and insight with the practical details of how to carry out and interpret multivariate analyses on real data. It gives them a solid understanding of the most commonly used multivariate methods and the knowledge and tools to implement them. Datasets, the SPSS syntax and code used in the examples, and software for performing latent variable modelling are available at http://www.mlwin.com/team/aimdss.html>

5 out of 5 stars Multivariate Analysis Made Clear.......2005-06-18

This is book provides a great introduction to multivariate analysis; including cluster analysis, multidimensional scaling, principal component analysis, and factor analysis. From all the introductory books available, this is by far the clearest and most appropriate for people without strong mathematical or statistical background. However, the examples in the book might be of interest to experienced analysts as well. Chapters start with a theoretical section and contain in-depth examples of multivariate analysis with real data. The examples are fascinating. For instance, by using multivariate methods to analyse different details of persian archers, it may be possible to conclude that they were created by different people.

        Book Description

Test equating methods are used with many standardized tests in education and psychology to ensure that scores from multiple test forms can be used interchangeably. In recent years, researchers from the education, psychology, and statistics communities have contributed to the rapidly growing statistical and psychometric methodologies used in test equating. This book provides an introduction to test equating which both discusses the most frequently used equating methodologies and covers many of the practical issues involved.

This second edition expands upon the coverage of the first edition by providing a new chapter on test scaling and a second on test linking. Test scaling is the process of developing score scales that are used when scores on standardized tests are reported. In test linking, scores from two or more tests are related to one another. Linking has received much recent attention, due largely to investigations of linking similarly named tests from different test publishers or tests constructed for different purposes. The expanded coverage in the second edition also includes methodology for using polytomous item response theory in equating.

The themes of the second edition include:

        * the purposes of equating, scaling and linking and their practical context

        * data collection designs

        * statistical methodology

        * designing reasonable and useful equating, scaling, and linking studies

        * importance of test development and quality control processes to equating

        * equating error, and the underlying statistical assumptions for equating

"Given the perennial debates about academic standards and grade inflation, it is my view that tools such as those described in this book should be adopted much more widely by the academic community than they are at present. This book provides an excellent overview, and I strongly recommend it." Short Book Reviews of the ISI, April 2005

"I highly recommend this book to everybody who has any interest in equating and linking, be they a student, practitioner, or researcher." Psychometrika, 2006
