Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Many natural building methods rely upon the use of post and beam frame structures that are then in-filled with straw, cob, cordwood, or more conventional wall materials. But traditional timber framing employs the use of finely crafted jointing and wooden pegs, requiring a high degree of craftsmanship and training, as well as much time and expense. However, there is another way...
Timber Framing for the Rest of Us describes the timber framing methods used by most contractors, farmers, and owner-builders, methods that use modern metal fasteners, special screws, and common sense building principles to accomplish the same goal in much less time. And while there are many good books on traditional timber framing, this is the first to describe in depth these more common fastening methods. The book includes everything an owner-builder needs to know about building strong and beautiful structural frames from heavy timbers, including:
- the historical background of timber framing
- crucial design and structural considerations
- procuring timbers -- including different woods, and recycled materials
- foundations, roofs, and in-filling consdierations
- the common fasteners.
A detailed case study of a timber frame project from start to finish completes this practical and comprehensive guide, along with a useful appendix of span tables and a bibliography.
Highly illustrated, this book enables 'the rest of us' to build like the professionals and will appeal to owner-builders, contractors and architects alike.

Not enough info, spam.......2007-07-12
While this book does cover the general building process, I feel it does not go into enough detail. While talking about timbers and larger pieces of wood, the charts in the end are all for regular 2x wood. There are so many references to other works where info can be found, that the whole read felt like one large advertisement (many for the author's other publications). Needs more detailed sketches, diagrams, and important detail pictures, and less useless pictures taken from too far away to be useful.
Excellent resource!.......2007-06-10
The book is very informative and helpful. Rob Roy's writing style makes it easy to follow. Not having any experience in building,(being female, that happens) I could still understand all of it, but a little background (even building a doghouse!) might have helped in truly getting the most out of the material.
Rob Roy is a powerhouse proponent for alternative building!.......2004-12-29
This book is written in a very easy to follow style. The concepts all come across as clearly and the illustations do. There is loads of informative content for the alternative builder who is concerned with incorporating natural building methods such as straw bale construction, cordwood masonry, and cob building into thier home. What makes this book stand apart from other texts on the subject is its emphasis on the use metal fasteners to achieve a strong well built frame. While most other timber framing books use joinery that requires a high degree of craftmanship this book uses simpler techniques that the non-professional can learn quickly. It is great for the "do-it-yourselfers" out there that want a book that makes sense! Highly recomended.
Some great nuggets of info but..............2004-08-22
Some great nuggets of info but fails to deliver the "How-to" that the title hints at. I was dissappointed and am now looking for a "cookbook" or "how-to" style book.
I can not recommend this book.
A superb guide for beginners.......2004-08-10
Written by an author with more than thirty years of hands-on experience with timber framing, Timber Framing For The Rest Of Us is a simple home improvement guide to basic, practical methods for timber framing used by contractors, farmers, and owner-builders today. From procuring timbers of various woods or even recycled materials, to critical considerations of structure and design , to common fasteners, a detailed case study of a timber frame project, and much more, Timber Framing For The Rest Of Us is a superb guide for beginners who are ready to roll up their sleeves, do their homework, and enjoy the fruits of their hard-earned labors.

Book Description
Hypnotic flowering vines, black-and-white Op Art odysseys, and seas of patriotic warships are just some of the beautiful, strange, and fantastic patterns that have adorned the walls of homes the world over. In the tradition of best-seller Fabulous Fabrics of the 50s, this home decor reference book entertains while it inspires with flawless reproductions of 150 classic and unique wallpapers; many of which are drawn from the collections of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution. Covering every decade of the century, Off the Wall celebrates robust pattern and detail in all their manifestations. Lively text and captions help to capture the designers, trends, and world events relevant to each piece, and the broader evolution of the genre, from a 1948 mural of rural America, replete with plump livestock and ripening fields, to the boldly colored abstractions produced in the 1950s by Herman Miller for MOMA. A useful resource for collectors, designers, decorators, and artists, Off the Wall is a colorful and captivating tribute to a widely appreciated medium.

wall papers design.......2007-05-09
this book is very useful for all kinds of designers. wall papers are very modern today as well as they were in the past.
today we use wall papers every where in every possibale space even in fashion stores, coffe shops and not only at houses.
this book gives us a review on the 20th century and which we can find very modern again today.
Not so wonderful.......2006-03-10
I dont think this book of wall paper pictures collection reflects the beauty, width and depth of the wallpaper design in 20th century. I have seen (and used) much better, detailed, artistic and representative examples myself.
All of the examples are from the 1920-60 period. Nothing after 1960. The book doesnt include any of the glamorous examples either. Another negative thing is all of the examples look like they are printed patterns, they give no idea about the texture, embossing and the paper type used.
If you are into the history of wallpapers this book may give you information but not much inspiring for graphic designers.
I wouldnt have bought it if i had the chance to see more pages because what you see at the Amazon.com "seach inside" feature is all this book about, same style, same not so good examples all through the book.

Whether you're thinking about stenciling something simple such as a floral motif around a doorway or have set your sights on turning your bedroom into a medieval castle, this guide will help. Stenciling, we learn, comes from an old French word meaning to sparkle, and the lively projects certainly do. Beyond good coverage of all the necessary basics (equipment, fixing mistakes, cutting your own stencils) and the usual candidates for rampaging stencil artists (walls, fabrics, home decorating accessories), the book offers information on advanced techniques (like airbrushing and trompe l'oeil) and adapting the process to unusual surfaces (ceramic tiles, ceilings, exterior walls). And if you've ever dreamed of becoming a professional stenciler, the no-nonsense advice on setting prices, finding clients, and other tricks of the trade will prove invaluable.
Customer Reviews:
Very dated.......2006-08-05
I found this to be very dated in techniques and style. I knew it was ten years old, but I didn't realize the vast changes in stenciling. I didn't find the instruction to be particularly detailed, and learned far more from the many other books available.
best stenciling book i've found.......1998-02-11
I bought stenciling techniques because it has some of the best information i've found on stenciling. It has a variety of techniques and a good list of resources. The book is easy to understand and has information i've been looking for
good base book for beginners or advanced stencilers.......1998-02-05
This book nicely covers the basics such as materials and techniques, with good full color photos to further illustrate what is explained. For the advanced painter, there are some good ideas, again with full color pictures. I've even brought this book with me to a client to show them some samples of what can be done.

If You Love O'Keeffe...........2000-07-08
If you love New Mexico, O'Keeffe or just fine photography this is a book for you. This intimate look at O'Keeffe through text and photos gives us a better look at this complicated artist. The photos by M. Wood are outstanding, as he takes you through how he contacted Ms. O'Keeffe, through the subtle games she and her gardener played. It was easy to see the love of the land that not only Ms. O'Keeffe had, but the same feeling seems to to just pop out of each photogrpah that Mr. Woods shows us.

Book Description
The clever, bizarre and poignant DIY housewares that fill the pages of Home-Made: Contemporary Russian Folk Artifacts have stories to tell. They communicate the textures of the lives of ordinary Russians during the collapse of the Soviet Union, they highlight alternatives to factory design and disposable goods, and they speak volumes about what goes on in other people's homes--how they spend and scrimp, how they make do. Home-Made highlights the best of the everyday objects made by ordinary Russians during and around the time of the Soviet Union's decline. Many were inspired by a lack of access to manufactured goods. Among the hundreds of idiosyncratic constructions for inside and outside the home are a back massager from a wooden abacus, a television antenna from unwanted forks, and a tiny bathtub plug from a boot heel. The author is himself a self-taught artist: he began exhibiting his own objects and installations in 1990, and collecting and cataloging these everyday, utilitarian objects handmade from modern materials a dozen years ago, in 1994. He accompanies each invaluable artifact with a photograph of the maker and his or her story. Foreward by Susan B. Glasser of the Washington Post Foreign Service.

Charlotte Hobson reviews `Home-Made' in The Telegraph 01.07.06.......2006-07-10
A television aerial made out of forks and a lamp made of aeroplane parts; a plastic colander mended in four different places; one shovel that recycles a `men at work' sign and another, the handle of a crutch; DIY sink-plungers, DIY torches, mudflaps, waffle-irons, telephones... These are a few of the `thingamyjigs' to be found in Vladimir Arkhipov's delightful `Home-Made', a sort of Blue Peter extravaganza of the Brezhnev era.
This small book, with it's colour photographs of funny, crudely made objects and short accompanying texts, achieves something matched by few conventional histories - a vivid and moving picture of real life behind the Iron Curtain. The shortages throughout the Soviet era and the Yeltsin years were, of course, the original impetus for much of this ingenuity. After the war there was terrible need, as the pathetic tools and rat-traps made during that time testify. Under Brezhnev, a version of communism was achieved in which money was more or less meaningless; there was not enough in the shops for people to spend their roubles on. Instead they relied on barter and complicated personal networks, friends who could weld metal or supply parts.
On the one hand, the `home-made' phenomenon is a lesson in why the Soviet economy collapsed - everyone was pilfering, not to mention spending their workdays doing their own and others' DIY. Arkhipov suggests that the activity was a direct response to life in the an oppresive state: `Each person who can make something with his hands prefers to make something small and concrete rather than uniting with others to change lives'.
On the other hand, to us living in the disposable age, Arkhipov's collection is something of a vindication of the Soviet Unions anti-consumerism. Each of these objects, however basic, is important. First it's creator had to search around for the materials, barter for them or recognise them in a punctured child's ball or a broken watch-strap. Then it was laboured over, perfected through a series of experiments. Finally it was used and used until it became worn by use. By this time the most mundane artifact is, as you can imagine, a matter for pride and affection. It is almost an heirloom.
Many of the objects are purely functional. But many, perhaps the majority, are not so practical. They are expressions of their creators' passions - rock climbing pegs and fishing reels, toys and tapedecks. Some reveal DIY geniuses for whom the pleasure was in the production itself, like the author's father who fashioned a radio out of a soap dish, flashing Christmas lights and a heat chamber for making rubber car parts. One that seemed to have a particularly Russian charm was a combination of pen and torch. `This,' says the inventor, `is connected with that romantic poetical period in a young man's life when the muse only takes it upon herself to visit him at night... You hold it under the pillow and use it for all your youthful musings'.
In the preface, Susan B Glasser, a Washington Post journalist, mentions a home-made radio `round which the family would huddle, listening to Voice of America', the forks bought `because the Soviet Union was about to collapse and there was nothing else for sale'. Like many Westerners, she seems convinced that everyday life in the USSR - unlike in the US or Europe - revolved entirely around the political situation. Yet one of the most pleasing things about this book is the light it sheds on Soviet citizens' real preoccupations - how to amuse your children while they are eating their dinner (a home-made bubble wand), how to keep your fishing bait dry (an ingenious little box), or how to soothe a sore back (a back-massaager made out of an abacus).
Arkhipov points out that the urge to thingamyjig is universal and hopes to create `a collective virtual record of a worldwide phenomenon'. If you are interested, visit [...]and join the party.

Book Description
More than ever before, interior design is a global affair. And more than ever, Westerners are eager to try out elements of Asian design. This book is the ultimate resource for professional and amateur designers seeking to recreate the mysterious elegance, balance, and beauty of Asian design. Through the magic of Masano Kawana's beautiful full-color photography, New Asian Style explores more than 30 stunning contemporary houses and homes from Singapore, all of which stand as examples of decorating and style that transcend their Eastern origins. In an effort to help designers pick up Asian ideas for their own settings, Jane Marsden's essays examine what elements make Asian style and how they might be captured in new settings anywhere in the world.

New Asian Style.......2007-01-16
I found this book disappointing, but then again, I was looking for Asian design ideas for my home. This book focuses on more on tropical outdoor living, and if I wanted ideas for patios, spa areas or pools, I think there are much better books to be found.

At Home With Color
ASIN: 1592532403 |
Book Description
This book explores the current trend of remodeling, redesigning, and upgrading existing homes, and raises it to an art form by profiling the projects of award-winning architect Barry Sugerman.
Often the most desirable building sites, such as those with water access or mountain views, have already been built on, and just as often, there are existing municipal codes that prohibit tear-downs or expansions by restricting renovations to existing setbacks, footprints, or height restrictions. Sugerman's designs show how he seamlessly integrates existing structures into striking remodels, and how he surpasses the problems of dated houses to combine luxurious living and contemporary, cutting edge architectural designs into redesigns that fit with their existing neighborhoods.
The Art of Renovation is not your father's remodel. This book breaks new ground by stimulating readers to create visually inspiring residential remodels featuring light-filled spaces, expansive views, and the most luxury that contemporary design can offer. Even houses with a modest square footage appear open, spacious and welcoming after a Sugerman-designed remodel.

Ideas For The Dream Home!.......2007-06-19
This is a remarkable book! It is chuck full of amazing before and after remodling jobs. It is a must if you are into contemporary. The pictures are crystal clear and the colors are vibrant. The cover is nicely laminated and the pages are high quality print. Even the accessories and art are inspiring. Being an artist it sparked my attention to color choices to really bring a room to life. This book is a must for remodeling ideas, interior decor/design and most of all artists. Every single page is beautiful! I'm now looking forward to finding a space to apply these ideas.
Contemparary???.......2006-11-10
This book is not what I expected. The images were not contemporary at all
(well maybe in 1980!). It was a waste of money and I recommend buying design
magazines instead. Do not buy this book. Please.
I'm so excited!!!!.......2006-10-19
Oh my Gawwwdd! I'm so excited today since seeing this book featured in the summer/fall edition of Florida Design's, Miami Home and Decor. I had to order it right away. I LOVE!!!! Barry Sugerman designs and, even though I don't live in Florida, I am a jealous wreck that the previous reviewer actually had him design her home. I have already adapted the Sugerman style in my home remodel and look forward to receiving this book to learn more about "how to turn my house into a comtemporary dream home" Sugerman style. I'll give an update after I devour this book. Yeahhhh!
Well worth the purchase.......2006-08-10
Even had I not had the pleasure of having this talented architect remodel my home, I would have purchased "The Art of Renovation." The design transformations, as reflected in this book are innovative and aesthetically inspiring, while retaining their functionality. I highly recommend it.
The Art of Renovation.......2006-06-11
This book is truly an idea book for everyone, no matter one's budget. There are hundreds of ideas both big and small, inexpensive and costly....one can adapt an idea to suit one's need and and budget and make a huge difference in one's comfort and enjoyment of their home.
I highly recommend this book to everyone.
