Customer Reviews:
Beautifully presented.......2007-07-26
The book is beautifully presented with exceptional diagrams and step by step instructions. There are many different varieties of flowers not found in other books, exotic orchics and beautiful butterflies. I love it.
I received my book very quickly, Amazon kept me informed via email that the order was received and when the book was sent. Great service.
And then there were three - or not .......2007-02-04
I've had Kelly's first book (as a section of a larger beading book) for a while and have had great fun with it. The flowers in this second book are just as beautiful. The instructions are clear and relatively easy to follow. I've already done a couple of the projects and they've turned out well.
Now for the caution flag. Kelly's first book is titled 'French-Beaded Flowers: New Millennium Collection'. This second book is titled 'More French Beaded Flowers: 38 Patterns for Blossoms, Leaves, Bugs & More'.
However, there is another Kelly book that you may see, titled 'French Beaded Flowers'. Be aware that this seemingly THIRD Kelly book is the UK's version of the second book. The only differences between the two books are the cover, the longer title and the publisher. The project content is exactly the same. Judging from the dates of the reviews written for the UK version, it seems to have been published first. Maybe the publishers of the U.S. version decided to add the word 'MORE' to the title just to be different. Or maybe it was some type of legal thing. The one thing it IS, is confusing to the consumer.
So, please don't be fooled by the cover, like I was and buy both of them. As far as I know, there are only two books by Dalene Kelly on French Beaded Flowers, not three.
Bead-Dazzling Garden of Flowers!.......2006-03-02
I've been working with beads for many years, and creating french beaded flowers for at least 20 years, and I STILL was very impressed with this book (which isn't easy to do!) The instructions are clear and the designs are wonderful! It's hard to say if a beginner would view it the same since I have been working with this art form for so long, but I believe it would be an excellent instructional guide, and a fantastic addition to every beading artist & hobbyist's library.
This book will keep you pleasantly occupied for a while.......2005-09-26
I bought Dalene's first French Beaded Flowers book and used it extensively. I was happy to add the second one to my collection. It is a very project-based book like the first one. I have made a number of the flowers already. The instructions are clear and concise. A good book for beginners.
Stop and bead the flowers!.......2004-04-19
Dalene's second book of French Beaded Flowers is a welcome addition to her first. I've already made several of the flowers! Her instructions are clear, and the flowers are just beautiful. Good work, Dalene!

Dimensional Flowers, Leaves & Vines.......2007-06-27
Most of the book is very good. The only trouble I had was doing the leaves as the way I do a peyote is just opposite from the way Barbara does. After I reliazed what I was doing wrong it came out very well.
Dimensional Flowers, Leaves & Vines.......2005-08-20
This is a new experience for me. The new techniques are a challenge but the instructions are detailed enough for a beginner with a passion for beadwork. Thanks.
Dimensional Flowers, Leaves & Vines.......2003-03-10
Although geared for more advanced bead workers, a beginner such as myself found this book well-written and well illustrated. The instructions are detailed and easy to follow. The photos are truely inspirational. Beginners should not shy away from this book, with enough time and patience one can produce beautiful flowers and leaves. A truely awesome book!!!!!

Dimensional Flowers Leaves and Vines
This is a wonderful book .The directions are easy to follow. I do loom work most of the time so for the directions to be easy enough for me to follow, they have to be good.
Using the wonderful leaves patterns from Barbara Grainger's book, I made a necklace of peyote flowers, ndebele and peyote straps . Subsequently, this same necklace won first place in the "Signs of Spring Challenge" on About.com as well as winning in the "Flower Challenge." Thank you, Barbara! Your leaves made the necklace as beautiful as it is!
A winner.

Dimensional Flowers Leaves and Vines.......2002-05-02
This is one of the most interesting and helpful bead books to come along in quite awhile. Not a pattern book, instead this book teaches beaders how to create three dimensional flowers that could be used as centerpieces for necklaces or many other projects, vines that can be earrings if used alone, fringe if done in several strands, necklace straps, bracelets, parts of sculpture, whatever. The possibilities are endless, the directions are lucid and easy to follow, and the completed projects shown inspire a beader to try them. This book really expands the dimensions of a beader's own creativity. Kudos to Ms. Grainger.

Not much to look at.......2007-09-13
I found that that designd in the book were all very similiar and not much in the way of sparking any creativity. Don't bother with this one since there are much better ones out there. Go with "4000 Flower and Plant Motifs"
Useful if..........2007-07-24
This book has a lot of designs of more or less the same style (like that you see on the cover.) If you're into leather tooling, embroidery, or rugmaking, you might like this book, as that's what these images remind me of. The book does mention that they're all from the same antique source, so while there are a lot of very nice designs, there isn't a lot of variety. If the style of the images on the book's cover don't appeal to you, then I wouldn't recommend buying this book, because that's the one and only style of image this book contains.
Just as I thought it would be..........2007-05-11
I am a freelance artist and was looking for a good source of stylized florals/paisleys for some drawings that I wanted to do...this book fits the bill perfectly! The designs are full of detail and the book carries enough variety to supply my needs for a very long time.
With the added use of my own imagination, I can see myself happily referring to it for when ever my needs cross over into this type of theme. The only way to make it better would be to make it hold even more than it already does...
Well done!
Dover does it again.......2006-11-05
Another excellent book from Dover. Unlike many design books, this book has many variations on stylized flower designs.
Interesting starting point for floral graphics.......2001-07-31
The graphics are crisp and very reproduceable. The majority of the flowers are a little dated, but easily altered. There is a wide variety of different motiffs from traditional colonial to Indian in orientation.
Book Description
Plant foliage brings drama and structure to the garden with color, shape, and texture all its own. Bright, cheerful flowers may have beauty-pageant appeal that gets noticed by passers-by, but where would all those pretty floral faces be without the stalwart presence of foliage? Every garden benefits from an inspired selection of plants chosen for the beauty of their leaves, and the harmony their presence brings to the entire landscape.
Organized by color and texture, each chapter in Nancy Ondra’s eye-opening new guide illustrates the features and requirements of dozens of plants, all chosen for the unique appeal of their leaves. Colors range from brilliant chartreuse to stunning silver to dusky, moody maroon. Surfaces can be rough or smooth, velvety or prickly, and edges can be scalloped, smooth, or saw-toothed.
With the stunning range of color and texture represented in Rob Cardillo’s rich photography, it’s easy to see how much season-long interest foliage can add to a garden. In addition to identifying and discussing beautiful plant possibilities, Ondra draws on her many years of gardening experience to present vivid plant combinations that work together to enhance and extend garden color. Knowing how and where to use foliage to complement flowers and grasses is as important as understanding the plants themselves.
Flowers come and go, weather can kill blooms prematurely or prevent them from ever appearing, but sturdy, reliable foliage can be the gardener’s salvation, year after year.

lovely pictures.......2002-03-27
The photographs in this book are gorgeous and the text is interesting, informative and inspiring. Rather than leaping right into a description of flowering plants, however, the author begins with a chapter on smell itself, discussing it's importance, the fragrances that were popular in the Victorian era and those that are sought after today. The plants themselves are divided by type: annuals (which, for some reason, is where he puts scented geraniums); perennials; roses; bulbs, corms and tubers; shrubs and vines; water gardens; night gardens; and scented houseplants. Each chapter describes a large variety of plants and explains where and how to grow them. Also included is a design map for planting a border of annuals; a brief section on the diseases and pests that attack roses; a short chapter on general garden maintenance; and a complete index (but no list of suppliers).
The author has an easy to read, rambling writing style. He tells stories, gives personal reflections, supplies quotes from litereature and horticultural writings, and clearly know his subject. If you are looking for a general book on fragrant gardens, then you'll probably like this one a great deal. But if you're looking for more of a guide to scented plants, which ones to grow where, in a concise format, then this isn't the book for you. The author does supply light/water/soil requirements and hardiness zones for the plants in the book, but it's included in the text, it isn't in an easy-to-find table which means that you have to read through the entire thing in order to find appropriate plants for your garden.
This book is so pretty and fun to read that it would make a nice present for someone who likes to read gardening literature but it really isn't for the person who, like myself, was looking for quick reference guide to the types of scented plants for zone 5 that grow in full sun and under dense trees.

I love this book.......2000-04-23
This book guids you through the magical world of plants and paper...Using it is an excellent way to learn papermaking, loving it and understanding plants and their formation. It is an excellent guide for those who love paper and its art.CONGRADULATIONS !
I LOVE this book!.......2000-01-03
I always wanted to make paper. However, the idea of making paper out of paper, seems idiotic to me. Then I found this book. It's everything I ever wanted. I recommend it for anyone. I would also make a great gift.
If I could only have one papermaking book, this would be it........1999-10-09
As a beginner papermaker interested in working with plant fibers, this book fulfills most of my papermaking needs: clear, concise instructions and illustrations; some good basic recipes; and great ideas to get the creative juices flowing. All this in a beautiful book that is also an interesting read.

F-U-N!.......2007-05-16
I used this Klutz instruction book for a "Women's Group" activity at my clinic. It gave us easy to follow instructions and great visual aids that helped to spark creativity. The project turned out very good and we all had fun! Now I am pressing flowers at home with my grandchildren!
Good strart for kids.......2006-08-25
This is more of a what to do with the pressed flowers than a how to press flowers book. There are many great craft ideas and materials to get yo started. The actual press limits you to two sheets of pressings, but is a good start for kids.
Really neat book, but way too short.......2001-06-13
This book is really cool! It has basic information on pressing flowers and leaves and a whole lot of good ideas for using your flowers once you have them all pressed. One example: using flowers and leaves to make letters and spell out your name. The photos are excellent, and the book is full of color. It is written in a fun, conversational tone, although some of the instructions are slightly more complicated than they really need to be. My only complaint would be that the book doesn't seem to be quite long enough. I got to the end and wanted a little bit more. Besides that, this book is inspiring, fun, and entertaining, and a great introduction into the world of flower pressing!
Pressing flowers.......2001-04-13
This book is verry enjoyable. I think kids as well as adults would enjoy doing this.
Book Description
Fresh Cuts: Arrangements with Flowers, Leaves, Buds & Branches is an exciting new look at the unexpected possibilities the plant world offers for beauty and enjoyment. It will change the way we approach flower arranging.
The one hundred elegant photographs by John M. Hall and the charming, informative text by garden designer Edwina von Gal show that one's choices for natural decorative arrangements need not be limited to flowers. Rather, von Gal and Hall emphasize the intrinsic beauty of each part of the plant, including buds, stems, leaves, berries and fruit. In tune with the current trend toward minimalism in interior decorating, the arrangements featured in this book are appealingly spare and simple. Among the many inspired ideas are a gathering of delicate periwinkle, the flowers a perfect complement to the leaves; a tabletop arrangement of beautifully textured pods and seeds; the rich, red stems of rhubarb chard in a clear glass vase; and a single rose of Sharon in glorious full bloom.
Von Gal's whimsical, anecdotal text offers facts, observations, and folklore, as well as practical guidance for the care and maintenance of the plants featured in her creative arrangements. Her provocative captions invite us to stop, take a closer look, and experience plants in ways we might not have thought of before--in vases or in their natural settings.
Filled with novel, accessible ideas, Fresh Cuts also suggests that the enjoyable act of decorating one's home or office can be combined with a dedicated foraging expedition, a casual nature walk, or a spiritual lesson in understanding our own symbiotic connection to the world of plants.

Lovely Book.......2003-12-04
The simplicity of this book is wonderful. It prooves you can live with beauty by just going outside and finding something you love.
Not Impressed.......2000-11-05
The author of this book is a garden designer not a floral designer, and there is a big difference. To me, two stems of Casablanca lilies by themselves in a vase (page 95) is not an arrangement worthy of two pages in a book. There was not one arrangement in the pages that I found to be anything other than leaves or sticks in a pot or jar. The arrangements were pretty and simple, yes, but the photography was really what this book was about. It couldn't have been about the floral design as there wasn't any.
A beautiful and inspiring book........2000-03-28
This beautifully photograph laden book has been an inspiration to get me out into nature and my own yard. It shows many diverse plant materials used to create extrodinary arrangements. Edwina's arrangements and anectdotes are amusing and interesting. She shows you how to make an arrangement of common bark that could be a centerpiece at any lavish party or backyard barbecue! I now regularly go out into nature and my own yard to collect leaves, branches and flowers to create my own arrangements.

My book is a treasure hunt........2004-12-21
My book (The Backyard Explorer Kit) is a treasure hunt -a nature treasure hunt. Children will have a good time as they learn to be more observant outdoors. The Album has a different shape on each page so even small children will have fun collecting all kinds of leaves - leaves with big teeth, round teeth, small teeth or no teeth--- and then match and paste them to the shapes.
In the Guide Book children will see that almost all trees have leaves that belong to one of nine shapes. Also there are projects that children can do all year long -even in winter. Children learn when they're touching, doing and having fun.
A marvelous gift to thrill any little kid- into a new world .......2004-09-10
No exaggeration and no comparison between the full color outdoor world the lucky youngster sees after this charming book opens it up for him or her--compared to the drab ho-hum before. Guaranteed--five minutes after getting this book kids will be clamoring to go out and collect leaves to put in their album! And will be seeing leaves and trees and the great outdoors in a magic new way. Once the child experiences the fun of being a Leaf Detective, boredom is not an option when trees are nearby. I can't recommend this book too highly!

Customer Reviews:
It's just OK.......2007-10-01
I did several exercises in this book, but found the colors and style of the flower and leaf exercises to be anything but cheerful. It's not my style of painting, but I still learned from the exercises, but also found myself not really enjoying doing the exercises much.
I did not feel that the instructions were always clear. This book is OK, but I have many watercolor books, and this one is definitely not my favorite. I think Watercolor Workshop (Barnes-Mellish) and also Robert Wade's Watercolor Workshop Handbook are among my favorites. If flowers is what you want to focus on in watercolor, then I would recommend some of the other watercolor floral books above this one, such as Fletcher's The Watercolor Flower Painter's A to Z, or Watercolor Basics: Painting Flowers by Sharon Hinckley. Again, I still learned from this book, but I just didn't enjoy it, as the flowers in the exercises are too melancholy and the instructions are not as good as some other books. It just seemed to lack the "spirit" that some other books have.
Not just for beginners!.......2003-11-14
I think this book is wonderful for all. Great for beginners...Yes, but also excellent for intermediates and even advanced.
Clearly written and beautifully photographed and put together, with easy to follow instructions and personal advice and tips by Judy, I found it to be very helpful...and I have been "watercoloring" for years.
Her subjects are beautiful and use of color is thrilling...I love her work and subjects.
A happy purchase with speedy delivery from Amazon too.
I will watch for any books she authors.
