Book Description
"After-death communications," or "ADCs, " occur when someone is contacted spontaneously and directly by a deceased family member or friend, without the help of any medium. The authors' research shows that these spiritual experiences offer hope, love, and comfort for thousands of people. Included are more than 350 first-hand accounts of those whose lives have been changed and even protected by messages or signs from the deceased.
Customer Reviews:
Hogwash.......2007-10-13
I wish this were true, but it's bunk. Grieving is a difficult business, and we should not try to pretend we're still in touch.
Real life accounts.......2007-08-23
The writer compiles real life stories in the words of the person experiencing the "visit", message, etc., from beyond. Very touching.
we dont die.......2007-04-27
knowing there is life after death is a great comfort this book will help you if you have lost someone close well written another great book which will give you comfort is the calling of your true self elizabeth anne bell both well worth reading these spiritual people have been in touch with the other side so much truth in the readings
Interesting.......2007-04-12
Although this book gets bogged down sometimes in explaining an account of an ADC (After Death Contact) after you have just read the account, it is very interesting. If you are open to such experiences, this book will bring you comfort in confirming that life goes on in other forms.
Very good reading..............2007-04-07
This book will inform and inspire
you so I would recommend this book to
anyone who is searching for truth
and meaning in life. Very useful.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
A brilliantly illustrated survey of modernist photography in Central Europe, published in association with the National Gallery of Art.
In the 1920s and 1930s, photography became an immense phenomenon across Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Austria, and Poland. Through magazines and books, in advertisements and at exhibitions, from amateur clubs to avant-garde schools, photographs emerged as a key vehicle of modern consciousness.
This book and the exhibition it accompanies present the work of approximately one hundred individuals whose creations exemplify the potential of photography in Central Europe between the two World Wars. Foto brings together for the first time works by recognized masters such as the Russian El Lissitzky, the Hungarian László Moholy-Nagy, and the German Hannah Hóchall of whom developed their photographic ideas in Germanywith contemporaries like Karel Teige and JaromÃr Funke (Czechoslovakia), Kazimierz Podsadecki (Poland), Károly Escher (Hungary), and Trude Fleischmann (Austria), who are less well known today.
Organized thematically, the book explores topics from photomontage and war to gender identity, modern living, and the spread of Surrealism. It shows the shared experience of modernity in the region, whereby recently founded nations and dismantled empires alike sought their place within the new world order established in the aftermath of World War I.
The illustrations, drawn from more than seventy collections in America and abroad, include several previously unpublished works as well as many others never before available in high-quality reproductions. 230 illustrations in color, tritone, & duotone.
Customer Reviews:
Avant-garde and popular culture.......2007-10-10
The previous reviewer does not justice to this beautiful book. It is not only about collage, as it is simplistically described, but about how photography was established as a modern art form. It shows how it was used creatively in Central Europe. There are some wonderful findings of lesser known artists as well as more familiar names, and most of them look incredibly contemporary (young artists and designers, have a look!!).
The edition is gorgeous, with excellent reproductions, clear typography and elegant layout. Contains a very useful bibliography. Absolutely recommendable.
Drowning in Detail.......2007-08-23
Huge amount of information about every single photographer regardless of major significance.Dig through that, and much interesting stuff. But the fixation on MODERNITY is typical curatorial nonsense. It is about "Collage and its Variations in Central Europe".

Customer Reviews:
wolvie is decent crossover shocker.......2007-09-26
part of the civil war cross over this story is wolverine going on a vendetta to trackdown and deal with nitro, the writing is done well by Mr. Guggenheim and the art is done brilliantly by Mr. Ramos, most of the other reviews are right about the writing but wrong on the art the other reviewers must be the kind of comic nerds that love the sleep inducing art of Cassaday, Hitch and Finch the most over rated bunch in comics, Ramos's style is cartoony, but wolverine isn't a realistic character so why draw him in a hyper realistic style, he's a five foot guy with a napolean complex, a metal skeleton, claws and a bright yellow jumpsuit. the story is good and unlike the main civil war has a decent ending.
wolverine on anothere massacre.......2007-08-22
love this story logan kicks tail and takes name for all you anti religous fanatics thefre's a fake messiah on a suicide mission logan solves this easily then he takes on nitro, amir who he later sleeps with after nitro kills her husband and namor who has an intreresting debate with logan loved it also loved the part where logan cut nitro's arm off brutality baby freaking bloody yes. then logan has those psychedelic nightmares where he sees jean again bring her back so they can hook up in real life plus logan reveals another secret which is linked to his mysterious immortality and amir is a hottie blue skin and all buy this if you love wolverine and x men.
VIOLENTLY WONDERFUL.......2007-08-18
NEVER READ MUCH ABOUT WOLVERINE BUT THIS MADE ME SMILE FROM START TO FINISH.(NOTE TO SUPER VILLIANS OR EVIL STOOGES....NO YOU DIDNT JUST KILL HIM!!!)SO HAPPY TO SEE LOGAN THINKS ABOUT THINGS DIFFERENT TO THE OTHERS IVE READ IN THIS SERIES.FIND THE BAD GUY, HURT THE BAD GUY.NOT THE SCAPEGOAT(SPEEDBALL)THE STORY IS COOL BUT THE ART WAS AWESOME,BIT DIFFERENT TO SOME OTHERS BUT FITS THE STORY FINE FOR ME.I WONDER WHAT SIZE HIS BOOTS ARE THEY LOOK A BIT BIG BUT DONT TELL WOLVERINE I SAID THAT.I DONT KNOW WHY IM THE FIRST TO GIVE THIS 5 STARS,IF YOUVE READ C/W THEN THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO ENJOY A BOOK WITHOUT THINKING TOO HARD.THE LAST FEW PAGES WERE A BIT ODD BUT DID TOUCH ON SOME OF MY THOUGHTS THROUGHOUT THE BOOK.
The Revenge.......2007-07-02
This story is about the search for Nitro, the real monster that started the civil war, but wolverine discovers that Nitro's power was modify by a corporation. Tha art is really good, the fights scenes are excellent, the story telling is good, but a litle slow. If you are a fan of CIVIL WAR, you must have this item.
WHY DO THIS STORY LINE, WHEN IT WON'T STICK YEARS DOWN THE ROAD? FOR MONEY NOW...........2007-06-30
Sounds like an interesting story plot. Sounds like an interesting direction. Too bad though that Marvel had to make this such an expansive cross over. Personally, I would have liked one book, one story line, one long running series of this as a possible "Future Event", like X-Men # 141-142 "Days of Future Past".
OK. So I'm old school. I DON'T like MAJOR MULTI-ISSUE cross overs. But not something that tears apart every team or charactor that we care about, and leaves a MESS in the end.
So by this, no more Fantastic Four. No more "True" AVENGERS. Spider-Man is screwed up. A Marvel ICON is left dead. And in my opinion, it was done to SELL BOOKS.
EVEN MORE SO IT DOESN'T MATTER! Because in a few years, they'll start the charactors with new beginnings or origins ALL OVER AGAIN.
THESE ARE COMICS. HOW MANY TIMES HAS THIS HAPPENED ALREADY???
Only problem with this whole thing, is that there are too many books, too may cross overs, and for those who collect comics, six months of having to buy EVERY Marvel comic put out to get the real story. And I'd imagine it was pretty expensive, just like if I decided to buy/collect EVERY CW TPB tie-in book. There are just too many.
I may end up buying the COMPLETE story line in 5-10 years IF this storyline and ramifications from all this still have an impact. It is an interesting idea. MIXED REVIEWS from everyone THOUGH.
Mine is, don't bother.
Until Marvel decides this is the way it's going to be and STICK TO IT FROM HERE ON OUT!
It's just a shame that it had to be done in such a manner that you have to buy 20 some different books and titls (to increase the sales of the ones doing poorly) to understand it all, everyone's side, and what the heck is going on. Marvel should have kept it in ONE(!!1!!) book, even if they'd have to do it in an expanded COMIC version, using various titles writers/artists to do their story lines, and left out the cross over books. Maybe have had published a new story/comic every week since everyone would have been collaborating. Makes more sense numbering Civil Wars # 1 - 150 (OR WHATEVER) if needed, but left out the cross overs.
As you can tell, corss overs are my BIGGEST complaint. I HATE them. They seem like they try to raise sales by being cross overed in comics who's sales are lagging.
I dunno'. This is alot to grasp. I'm old school. I think I'd rather buy Marvel Masterworks reprints, then this new stuff. Not as complicated.
And besides that, we all know, that somewhere, some time down the road, they'll RE-START the series and charactors again (for the umpteenth dozenth MILLIONTH time) and things will go back to normal. I mean, Aunt May died in the Amazing Spider-Man # 250 or 350 ( One or the other, I'm not going to pull it to be exact. ), yet, she's been back for quite a while. As happened a long time ago in Ultimate Spiderman.
So this is a big PUT-OFF to me.
Reason: No matter how bad Marvel screws this up, and does this or does that, they can, and usually DO, start all over again ( just like DC has TOO MANY TIMES WITH THEIR CHARACTORS ) from scratch, from the beginning, with everyone ALL with a clean slate.
So what is the point of getting excited or involved with this knowing that in a few years, there will be a new origin or something, for all the heroes and teams, or that it happened in an Alternate Universe, and this most likely will be forgotten by the heroes, kept in a Parallel Universe, or something along those lines???
~Yawn~
Which has happened too many times in comics period. Kind of ruins them and their credibility.
So 5-10 years down the line, if this story line is still the direction Marvel is going, and hasn't turned back, and ramifications are still being dealt with, then maybe it would be worth it. Maybe it will be a classice worthy of buying EVERY cross over for my Personal Collection.
But I don't see it happening.
Old schoolers like me think of the Avengers as Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America.
And the FANTASTIC FOUR SPLITTING UP??? C'mon. Give me a break.
So much for a FF 3 movie.
Seems like too many books, too much money, and (probably) not enough conviction by Marvel to keep this storyline alive forever, and make it the way things are, were, should be (because they wrote this story line), and will be a mainsty for the future of the Marvel Universe.
But it ain't gonna happen.
Just a story, yes. But does it make any sense if it's passed over and not a factor years down the road?
Not to me.
At least they didn't butcher the X-Men. They left them out of it pretty much. Smart move. Don't trash your best selling book.
But it's only a matter of time, before Peter Parker goes back to being Spider-Man w/o J Jonah Jamison knowing his identity, Aunt May not having a clue, and SOMEONE changing the Marvel Universe to where the Civil War NEVER happened and everyone's minds are wiped clean of the events, and life goes on as we knew it.
Interesting story line, true. Just should not have been so drastic with too many cross overs, and so many books done for (PROBABLY) NOTHING.
All in the name of making MONEY for MARVEL....
I'd rather stick to the "CLASSICS" Marvel books, like Marvel Masterworks. And if this turns out to be a classic and impact story line on the future of Marvel comics in 5 - 10 years, then I'll have to buy it. But not now.
CLASSICS ARE ONLY GOOD IF THEY STAND THE TEST OF TIME AND REMAIN A PART OF MARVEL LORE FOREVER.
Dang. Imagine if Stan Lee and Joe Kirby took back some of their work 5 years after doing it. Thank goodness, they had the common sense not to do or try something like this.
No wonder Stan left Marvel for Disney....
Smart move Stan!!!
Too bad most of the charactors you created are hurt by this. It is a shame...
I gave this 2 stars (HIGHEST RATING I've given any of these books) for the ARTWORK. AWESOME!!! Too bad the story line screwed it up, or I would have rated it higher. I mean, c'mon. Wolverine in an Iron Man get up???
The art saved it from getting a ONE STAR in my opinion.

Clas Oldenberg / An Anthology.......2000-02-10
I could not wait to get my hands on this book as Oldenberg (to me) is one of the great Contemporary Masters. To say the least it wasn't a dissapointment. It is "The" Bible of Oldenberg. I would reccomend this Anthology to anyone that has any interest whatsoever in the Building Blocks of Contemporaty Art.

Wonderful, though more text than I wanted.......2001-12-28
I was very pleased by the large number of high-quality reproductions. Still, as far as I'm concerned there should have been *more*. The book contains (a rough count) about 280 pages containing text or mostly text, out of about 630 total pages. However, I'm very happy with the book.
Excellent well presented book.......1999-09-14
The problem with art books is that they go out of print too quickly. This is a beautifully presented book on Rauschenberg that was released with the big retrospective at the Guggenheim in 97/98. Barnes and Noble still had copies avaiable as of Sept. 99, so check there -- they were even discounted!
This is a very comprehensive overview of Rauschenberg's work.......1999-06-04
For the fan and the collector, this book is an excellent reference guide that offers extensive illustrations of the works themselves, as well as documentary photos of the artist at work and play. A chronology, exhibition and performance histories are also included. I was also very interested in the information regarding Rauschenberg's work processes and collaborations with other artists. This is a fine addition to any art library.
This book was offered in paperback during a recent exhibition at the San Francisco MOMA, so if you can find the hard cover you should buy it.
Rauschenberg, the book.......1997-11-26
The book is beautiful, if very heavy. The fault lies not with the catalog but with the show itself. THERE'S TOO MUCH STUFF and not all of it is worth looking at. The book will prove to be an invaluable companion to the catalog from the National Gallery of Art's 1976 retrospective. But it (and the show) sure could have used some editing.

At the age of 6, Joel-Peter Witkin witnessed an automobile accident in which a little girl was decapitated, her head rolling to a stop at his feet. This experience may have had a bearing on his lifelong obsession with the macabre, but does little to prepare the viewer for his bizarre photographs of hermaphrodites and other human grotesqueries. Imagine the fruits of a collaboration between Diane Arbus and Federico Fellini that might be rejected for being a little too extreme. Imagine what Larry Flynt might publish for residents of the Twilight Zone. Two of the milder images: the disembodied, almost skeletal heads of two gnarled old men locked in an intimate kiss; and an obese woman in a cone-shaped mask, breast-feeding an eel.

Hypnotic Dreamscape Daring You to Look Away.......2004-05-21
Strange, decadent, daring, lush, sacred, gorgeous, hideous, nightmarish, dreamlike ... this is Witkin, a mass of contradictions capable of stirring so many mixed emotions that you may find yourself feeling a bit dizzy or queasy or struck mute in some sort of hypnotic trance. These photos are not to be ignored. They demand you to either look away and hide your head beneath a pillow as you struggle to erase them from your memory (good luck) or stare transfixed as their obscene beauty pierces your soul and leaves its indelible mark. Either way, honey, you are doomed - but in such a wickedly wonderful way.
Witkin makes no apologies for his art nor should he. He is a loathe it or love it kind of master surrealist who layers one assault to reason upon another. The freakish and ethereal images that live in his photos belong to an alien world as much as they exist in this one and in us. It doesn't necessarily take a brave heart to enjoy his work but it does take one that is willing to accept that beauty is capable of thriving even in the inkiest black regions of decay or disfigurement; it dances there, haloed in its own light, while waiting for us to join it.
Art that is capable of eliciting such strong emotions is worthy of our attention and the fight to preserve it.
A Very Sad Book.......2003-02-16
This is a book about a sad man who choses to photograph dead babies and corpses.
Very Highly Recommended - Biggest Visual Impact.......2003-01-08
I appreciate Joel Peter Witkin's photos for a few years, before I can actually own this book finally. This book makes my experience complete.
A comprehensive collection of Joel-Peter Witkin's work, which belongs to the dark side of human. The careful composition of human body, objects and background, sometimes with cross-reference to classical paintings, invites a surreal, poetic, and miserable feeling.
If you only think that his photos are terrible, you need more time and more patience to read his images, through understanding. Extract from what Witkin said - 'When people see my work, there is no 'grey area' of response. What they experience is either love or hate.'
For all photography books I have ever read, this one is the most visual impacting ! Joel Peter Witkin's work is inspiring, original, and creative.
Very highly recommended, if you want to look into our human side.
The Definitive Volume.......2001-02-14
Be forewarned: Witkin's photographic art is wholly unique and strange and bizarre and macabre.....and wondrous. How often do we really have the courage to face our nightmare demons, real or imagined? Here is an artist who has devoted his life to addressing the dark side of our minds. Yes, these are photographs of "freaks" manipulated to states beyond which even they can go. Some people are put off by these images, finding them cruel and disgusting. But why do these same people pack the theatres and movie houses that continue to grind out rehashed Dracula, Frankenstein, Phantoms of the Opera, and other creatures from the black lagoon of invention? Perhaps the fact that these are photographs and not drawings or paintings makes them fall into the realm of possible rather than make-believe. But here they are, like a sideshow, with incredible presence, lighting, theatrics, and pain. For the unafraid, Witkin's photographs are beautiful. And so is this volume!
The original and best: A master of the Macabre.......2000-07-04
Witkin is an extremely original and spiritual artist who never strays from his own personal vision. He also comes recommended by the best: Clive Barker is a fan and Nine Inch Nails made a music video based on his work. His work is often imitated but his unique style which blends the freakshow, the gothic and the baroque with imagery of death and religion, can never be matched. Witkins photographs are often horrific and deeply bizarre but are always beautiful. This book contains the best quality reproductions of a great number of Witkin's photographs that I have ever seen, as well as lengthy and informative essays. I highly recommend it for initiated fans of Witkin or as an introduction to his work.

Book Description
Civil War is encompassing the entire Marvel Universe, and the effects of the war are being felt by every hero, villain and civilian. In Civil War: Choosing Sides, five stories shine a spotlight on the wildcards and impact players whose part in the Civil War has yet to be told - including Daredevil/Iron Fist, U.S.Agent, the Irredeemable Ant-Man, Venom and even... Howard the Duck? Then in Winter Soldier: Winter Kills, James Buchanan Barnes, Captain America's one-time partner Bucky, faces his first Christmas of the 21st century - and the truth of the terrible things he was forced to do as the Winter Soldier. And with Cap caught in a conflict he can neither take a side of - or understand - what moves can he make to try to redeem himself? On Earth, the Sentry confronts his inner demons as the shadows of past and future battles tear him apart. Within The Negative Zone, the walls of 42 are pulled back to reveal the return of one of the Marveldom's greatest heroes. And in She-Hulk, Civil War threatens the rights of every American super hero. A worthy Civil War companion.......2007-06-25
Civil War: Marvel Universe collects various issues and one-shots taking place during and after the cataclysmic events of Marvel's Civil War mega event, and features a variety of writing and artist talent as well. Beginning with She-Hulk, who finds herself partnered up with former New Warriors members Justice and Rage, who seek to clear their deceased team mates name's in the wake of the Stamford tragedy. Next up is Choosing Sides, which focuses on various wild cards in the Civil War, including Venom, Ant-Man, Iron Fist, the U.S. Agent, and Howard the Duck (yes, you read that right, Howard the Duck!) and the roles they plan to play. Civil War: The Return focuses on the Sentry and his decision in supporting Tony "Iron Man" Stark in the pro-registration act, as well as detailing the return of Captain Mar-vel (no Shazam needed) to the Marvel universe. Finally, Civil War: The Initiative details the aftermath of the Civil War as Tony Stark begins his plans for organizing and controling every superhero team on the continent as a new team rises from the ashes of Alpha Flight, and the new team of Thunderbolts (featuring Venom and Bullseye) make their debut. The TPB features a variety of writers including Warren Ellis, Brian Michael Bendis, Paul Jenkins, Robert Kirkman, Dan Slott, and Michael Avon Oeming among others; while the artists featured include the great Marc Silvestri, Tom Raney, Leinil Francis Yu, and Scott Kolins among others as well. All in all, though it has a bit of an uneven feel and some plot holes (to be filled by the other Civil War tie-ins), Civil War: Marvel Universe is a great companion piece to Marvel's mega event, and is definitely worth picking up for fanboys and Civil War collectors alike.
Now this is my kind of TPB!.......2007-06-24
I'm a huge fan of the Civil War series and I have to say that the Civil War: Marvel Universe book totally exceeded my expectations. The artwork amazed me and its not one, but many different styles by the very talented artists who brought the illustrations to life. Not only do you hear stories from great characters like She-Hulk, Venom, Iron Fist, Daredevil, Ant-Man, U.S. Agent, Captain Marvel, The Sentry, and the incredibly witty and funny Howard the Duck, but you also get to see the first stories of the Civil War Initiative. I've gotta say, this book got me excited for the Initiative series and I can't wait to read more!

Book Description
Building upon 20 years of groundbreaking exhibitions of Russian avant-garde art--including The Great Utopia: Russian and Soviet Art 1915-1932 (1992) and Kazimir Malevich: Suprematism (2003), among others--the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum presents this blockbuster show, which demonstrates that Russia's contributions to world art history extends far beyond the early 20th century. Like the exhibition, this catalogue explores the vast and complex phenomenon embodied by the word "Russia" through the lens of the masterworks of Russian art from the 12th century to today, as well as art from the world-class collections amassed by Russian tsars and merchants from the 18th through the 20th centuries. The remarkable and interconnected history of Russian art and Russia's most important collections over nine centuries includes icons, portraiture in both painting and sculpture, social realist works since the 19th century, landscapes from all periods, pioneering abstraction, and experimental contemporary art. Librarian of Congress and renowned historian of Russia James Billington contributes the introductory essay, providing a context for the more specialized selections by Robert Rosenblum, Evgenia Petrova, Lidia Iovleva, Mikhail Allenov, Alexander Borovsky, Alexander Kostenevich, Valerie Hillings, and others. The book's design subtly evokes the six major periods covered--Medieval Russia (12th to 17th centuries), the epoch of Peter and Catherine (the 18th century), the 19th century, the early 20th century, the 1930s-1960s, and the 1970s to present. This scope makes Russia! one of the most comprehensive sources on the history of Russian art ever to be published in English. The companion publication, Russia! Catalogue of the Exhibition (opposite page), provides expanded and detailed, curatorial information for each work in the exhibition.

Overwhelming...Spectacular!!!!.......2006-01-01
I went to the Guggenheim yesterday to see the show Russia! It was amazing and the response was overwhelming...lines around the block all day. The show was as good as any that I've ever seen...and I have been to the Hermitage, Russian Museum,The Met, Louvre, Prado etc...this show was spectacular! Now, come and see it for yourself. It closes on January 11th, 2006 and if you cannot get here to see it PLEASE buy this book! It's a steal at $47.25...in fact buy both books! This sells for $75.00 at the show and believe me, is well worth it! I am a fan of Socialist Realism and the work of Nesterov, Surikov, Vasnetsov (His Knight at the Crossroads is a work of genius!)and of course Repin. They are all here and the works are printed beautifully and give you a perfect feel for the exhibition. Russia is a land of superb artwork, in many forms. Primarily painting here yet buy this book and you will not be dissapointed......superb, superb and superb! All responsible for this exhibition deserve the highest praise...this is what is best in world culture......Peace and Slovim Godim!(Happy New Year!)
Beautiful art for enjoyment of all.......2005-12-28
Everyone should see the great Russian art in this collection. It shows the soul of a great country.

The Art of the Motorcycle begins with a serious preface by Guggenheim director Thomas Krens, who calls the motorcycle "a quintessential symbol of the insecurity and optimism of our time." At 411 pages long (an ll-page, single-spaced bibliography of motorcycle books carries it over the top), it is a hefty compendium of motorcycle history, culture, design, and science. While the essays range from treatises to such fun stuff as "Bikes were always work for me," a long poem by Dennis Hopper, this thoroughgoing tome is above all a meticulous catalogue of the 96 motorcycles exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum during the summer of 1998, with details about engine design as well as esthetics. "Another significant innovation is the machine's throttle-controlled oiler," we read of the 1911 electric-orange Flying Merkel Model V. "Lubrication was a continuing problem in the early days ... but Merkel's system ... preceded by nearly two decades both Indian's as well as Harley-Davidson's adoption of this feature." The bikes are documented with crystal-clear photographs in this precision-built book. --Peggy Moorman
Book Description
This stunning book celebrates the motorcycle as one of the most compelling design achievements of the 20th century. Now affordably priced, this "classic vehicle" (MSNBC), with its gorgeous full-page and double-page photographs, is a must for motorcycle and design enthusiasts.
Originally published to accompany the enormously popular Guggenheim Museum exhibition, the book includes entries on over 100 spectacular bikes (BMW, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Indian, Triumph) as well as essays on the motorcycle in film, fashion, lifestyle, and history by such life-long rebels as Hunter S. Thompson and Dennis Hopper. Among the gems selected on both technical and aesthetic grounds are the 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmuller 1500cc; the pivotal BMW R32; the immensely popular 1950s Honda 50 Super Cub; the quintessentially American 1977 Harley-Davidson XLCR; and the Ducati 916, one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever produced.
New to the paperback edition is a 16-page illustrated section featuring the magnificent motorcycles that were added to the exhibition when it traveled to the Guggenheim Las Vegas.
Customer Reviews:
A unique case of motorcycles celebration.......2007-09-23
This book is a must have for the serious motorcyclist who wants to somehow broaden her two wheel horizon. It is also a very stylish reminder that many innovations are 60 year old ones. While pictures are of high quality and the prints very good, I can only regret that this particular selection of motorcycles may be seen by some as The ultimate bike park. It is not! A true exhibition catalog, the book remains unique: I do not know of any other printed material of this quality, show-casing motorcycles in this manner.
FINE CONTENT MARRED BY FAINT, SMALL PRINT.......2003-04-21
This is a nice "coffee table" book about their recent exhibit. As a rider since '59, I couldn't wait to get into the text, which is divided by time periods.
Alas, the print is a super thin, "artsy" typeface, very faint and grey colored- not a rich, easy to read, black Courier, for example. And the white space is excessive; they could have increased the typeface size by 4 or 5 points and still have more than enough border on each page!
Conclusion- a fine book marred by it's designers to make it less readable and useable!
Essential reading for enthusiasts.......2002-02-27
Museums, exhibits and the books devolving from them only hint at the mysteries they purport to show but rarely reveal. This is particularly true of exhibits of things that move, whether airplanes, cars and motorcycles on one hand, or people on the other. Once mummified via restoration and encapsulated in historical review, these lively subjects lose their kinesthetic value and become dessicated.
Within the limitations of those realities, here is a book that is endlessly fascinating and pleasing, replete with photos that while technically excellent are for the most part static and thus devoid of context. The essays, although pleasant, lack edge and passion, thus failing to evoke the adrenal glands (which operate at high levels when pushing a motorcycle to the limit).
The descriptions of the machines, from knowledgeable masters such as Kevin Cameron, capture the essence of what the designer tried to do and how well he (no known female motorcycle designers, but correct me if I'm wrong) hit his target.
This is a book to which one can return again and again with pleasure. For a rider who has survived (I confess, in context, that I'm the survivor of 1.6m miles on two wheels) and ridden any of these wondrous devices, the book is a channel back in time that the book conveys magnificently.
It is to the credit of the Guggenheim and the sponsors, such as BMW, that the show/book could be produced and could demonstrate to a wide public the fascination of motorcycles and riding them.
Even non-riders, who have seen motorcycles on the road or who may know motorcycle enthusiasts, will start to comprehend the addictive fascination that possesses riders who can't stop. If you are persuaded to ride, please wear the best gear you can afford, get training and realize that roadcraft only comes from mileage undertaken humbly but decisively, the kinesthetic realities no book, however good, can convey.
A Can't Go Wrong Gift.......2001-12-17
This book contains a good overview of motorcycling history, but its claims to fame are the wonderful photography and the high production values with which it was printed. It is a wonder to think that the photos are of bikes that actually exist today.
If you are searching for something to give to a person you know who enjoys riding motorcycles, who used to ride or who dreams of one day riding this is a can't miss gift. I received my copy as a gift two years ago, and I still enjoying reading it.
this is a mental not a manual.......2001-12-05
more than onehundred pages of motorcycle history, culture and sport, hundreds of high quality pictures with more history on specific makes & models. this book 'll look very "chic" on your coffeetable. . must be the finest in it's kind. ( & at 1/2 the expo price. .)
