very usable.......2007-07-27
most complete i have ever read on radiant heat simple enough for someone like me new to radiant floor heat.but very complete has info for figuring size of pumps needed and number of loops etc
This book is a waste of your time and money.......2007-01-13
McGraw-Hill should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this book to be published! It meets none of the advertized criteria, and you couldn't begin to attempt a design or purchase after having read this thinly disguised manufacturer's sales pitch. There's better information available on the web for free. What's more the writing style is extremely superficial and repetitive, with identical illustrations used in numerous places simply as fillers. The author (if really an actual person) should go into hiding immediately.
The publisher's "text book" reputation really deserves to be tarnished if this is the best they can come up with.
Do not buy this book!
A Waste.......2005-01-31
This book will not benefit anyone. It is repetitive and lacking the necessary detail to truly plan and install a radiant floor heating system. It's unfortunate that books like this are not screened before being made available to the unsuspecting public.
Dimly radiant.......2004-02-29
This one of the worst books I have ever purchased. It does not provide "real answers contractors need" as is advertized on the cover. The information provided is mainly taken from web pages and other vendor supplied information. Many repetitions of the limited material as if the author had prepared several drafts and included them all in the published version. Don't waste your money.-Ag
Poorly written, lacking content.......2003-02-04
Nice table of contents, but each section was littered with poor writing and repetitive comments about how great radiant heating is. This is obviously just a hidden manufacturer's pitch for radiant heating products.

Customer Reviews:
For beginners, not advanced amateurs and professionals.......2004-06-13
The sub-title of the book says "Techniques for the Advanced Amateur and Professional." Hardly. This is simply one of many generalist photography books geared to beginners and "non-advanced" amateurs. Don't expect to find anything that isn't in dozens of similar books. The photos are average, and aren't helped by the lacklustre quality of the printing.
Great book.......2003-11-26
Great book that teaches a lot about "outdoor photography". Equipment, interesting technigues, locations, and many other topics are explained with many examples. I am mostly interested in landscape photography and found many advices very usefull. Highly recomended.
Great book - very helpful.......2003-01-13
This is the most helpful photo book I have ever seen! The illustrations are superb, with helpful captions. Moreover, it's good for beginning levels despite what the subtitle says. I highly recommend it. Worth every penny. Also a great gift for other photographer friends.
More winning pictures needed.......2002-12-01
This book is essentially true to its title of the Art of Outdoor Photography as opposed to the science of... The author offers a lucid and accessible narrative which could generate insight for beginner or intermediate photographers. However, I felt that many of the pictures in the book were quite frankly not impressive or inspiring. It is almost as if he was only willing to part with those that he didn't want to sell elsewhere. Could be useful as part of a larger collection of books on this subject but look elsewhere for stunning photographs.
WOW!! What a book!.......2002-09-01
Absolutely amazing!! This is one of the BEST photography books out there. I have bought many books on photography, but this one has absolutely captivated me. Have you ever been ever been awestruck by some lovely outdoor scenery, taken pictures of that landscape , got the film developed and printed shook your head in bewilderment and said "what the heck happened?". All the things that captured your heart and soul are still there in the picture, but it does not have the same impact? If this has happened to you, this book will tell you why.
Don't walk, run. Go buy the book!

Customer Reviews:
Out Of Date.......2007-01-13
I'm not very satisfied with this book. It's a very basic and also out of date version of Home Automation techniques. It takes a very basic approach to home automation and does not offer much helpful info about current techniques.
Complete Home Automation -- Why Not Get a Jump?.......2004-09-16
No book, especially dealing with construction topics, can be everything to everybody. This is probably THE best on a fairly recent topic of specialization and competitiveness among the top-quality contractors.
One reviewer below says he got "7 things" out of the book. That is a great value! Even one or two are worth the price, in the commercial world! Some will get more, some less.
We particularly liked the focus of the author: Real Answers Contractors Need, Improve Profit Margins, Building Cutting Edge Security Into Homes, Automated Lighting that is both stunning and efficient, Home Theater, Flat Panel Plasma Displays ....
Includes whole chapters on plumbing, home security, entertainment, and lighting. An appendix on data communications and cable manufacturers... How many other books are out there on these subjects now?
Highly recommended, since it's a small investment in the long run.
The first book I read about home automation.......2002-12-30
This was the first book I picked out of the shelf to read about home automation. I found it very useful and informative. I read about 50 pages before I had to leave. I wanted to come back and buy the book. I am not sure why so many people seem to dislike this book. Anyway I consider this a good book. I am going to go back and browse through some of the other books suggested and decide which one to buy.
In serious need of update.......2002-03-26
With the pace home automation as been changing, this book should be considered "out of date" and hopefully soon be "out of print." While the author does seek to enlighten readers, the focus of the book is out-of-touch with main stream home automation thinking in 2002. Even the control systems referenced are no-longer near the cutting edge. While references to structured wiring still ring true, the techniques for reaching a total intregated system have changed. I was so disappointed with this book I actually returned to Amazon as I felt it could not enhance my library in any regard. As an alternative I would suggest "Home Automation for Dummies."
Not worth the paper its printed on.......2002-03-17
If there ever was a case for false advertising, this book takes it all the way. The back cover claims that after reading you will be able to install some of the most modern systems. This book is nothing more than a brief discussion about some of the things that can be automated in the home. The wiring that is covered in the book is juvenile at best. If I had previewed the book at a book store I most definitely would not have purchased book. Pass on this one.

Customer Reviews:
Terrible.......2006-01-07
The text seems like it was dictated into a word-processor, shuffled a little and printed with no editing and no research.
Portions of text are repeated exactly in different sections of the book. The tables and diagrams are reprinted from random product literature and have no relation to the text. The entire content relevant to home heating installation and maintenance could be compressed into a pamphlet.
Perhaps the team responsible for this book learned from the same school as those who prepared Saddam's perplexing weapons reports.
This is the worst textbook I have ever seen, and a waste of time.
A Pratical handbook.......2005-08-15
This is a easy reading book good for someone who need a brief introduction to heating system. The book includes some installaion details which is useful but there are many tables and and product information which I find is not necessary. It is not expensive book to own if you want to have some idea about heating system.
Not enough information.......2002-12-28
I too wanted information on tuning up my oil heater, and this book is worthless.
I did, however, pick up a copy of Forced Hot Air Furnace - Troubleshooting and Repair and was very impressed with the book. It told me everything I needed to know and them some about my oil heating system.
Bravo to Roger Vizi for an outstanding book on heating repair!!
Fairly worthless.......2001-04-18
I bought this book to help me troubleshoot and adjust my oil-fired furnace. It proved to be no help at all.
