5 out of 5 stars ezekiel option.......2007-09-17

This is an excellent book, very fast paced with many characters but the characters are reviewed at the front of the book so you don't become confussed. It's like reading the newspaper the last years and are knowledgeable on current events even if it is a novel, there's a vast amount of historical facts intertwined in each page. It was even better then "The Last Jihad".

5 out of 5 stars Read about the future...now........2007-08-24

Joel C. Rosenberg is an amazing author! He looks at the times, and relates them to Biblical scripture, and vice-versa. He will have you thinking, for sure. God has His master plan for the human race all plotted out, and Rosenberg digs through the Bible to tie history and future events to what has been written eons ago. All of his books are like this. His book, "Epicenter" explains it all: how he wrote them and why. Read them all. I certainly have.

3 out of 5 stars i feel like i am reading a book with the 700 club .......2007-08-23

i think this could have much less religious quotes. it was very hard to all of a sudden get into the story when all the quotes keep popping up. i think it would have been much better to eliminate them. i will finish reading it because the plot is great. just not happy with the quotes. i am not anti religious but this distracted me very much.

5 out of 5 stars Very believable thriller!.......2007-08-23

This book is packed with adventure and suspense, and also is extremely informative about two topics we should all be interested in, namely the geopolitical structure of the middle east and Russia, and the clarity of Bible Prophecy about end times. Joel Rosenberg is a very informed, excellent writer. I would also reccomend his non-fiction book Epicenter.

5 out of 5 stars Ezekiel Option by Joel Rosenberg.......2007-08-09

I have read all of Mr Rosenberg's books, and the
Ezekiel Option holds true for his most excellent
standard of novels based on hisorical biblical
facts, as well as having tremendous suspense,
holding the reader's attention rivetted on the
characters and plot at all times. I am most
happy and fortunate to have been able to
have these in my library.

Book Description

The Last Jihad:
Jon Bennett is a top Wall Street strategist turned senior White House advisor. But nothing has prepared him for the terror that he will face. Only a solid Arab-Israeli coalition against Iraq can keep the U.S. and other Western nations from certain devastation. And only Bennett and his beautiful partner, Erin McCoy, can make that happen.

The Last Days:
Osama bin Laden is dead. Saddam Hussein is buried. Baghdad lies in ruins. Now the eyes of the world are on Jerusalem as Jon Bennett - a Wall Street strategist turned senior White House advisor - his beautiful CIA partner Erin McCoy, and the U.S. Secretary of State arrive in the Middle East to meet with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. But in the shadows lie men whose hearts are filled with evil.

The Ezekiel Option:
With Saddam Hussein and Yasser Arafat out of the way, a dazzling era of security and prosperity seems to have come to the Middle East. With the help of an American president trying to spread freedom and democracy, the Israelis and the Palestinians have signed a historic peace agreement. But a new evil looms on the horizon. And Jon Bennett and Erin McCoy Â- two senior White House advisors Â- find themselves facing the most chilling question of their lives: Is the world rushing to the brink of an apocalypse prophesied more than 2,500 years ago?

This was gripping to listen to. I actually drove around some to be able to listen to the books. I am so glad that they came as a set.

5 out of 5 stars The Last Jihad, The Last Days & The Ezekiel Option.......2007-09-11

Movies should be made of all of Joel Rosenberg's books. They would be box office smash hits...though fiction when he wrote them, fiction often became fact. Read his latest book, Epicenter,(non-fiction)to find out how he did it.

4 out of 5 stars Loved the books, but........................2007-07-11

I really enjoyed the 3 books, however I did feel that the first 2 books could have been put into one. My favorite was the Ezekiel Option because of the connection to prophecy. I am looking forward to purchasing the Copper Scroll next.

5 out of 5 stars Much better than expected.......2007-04-09

Joel has stayed true to the integrity of Biblical prophecy which is what his objective was as he wrote these works of fiction. He more than accomplished this - read Epicenter to see where the authors heart is; his work is relevant and it opens many hearts!

I totally disagree with the first review! I understand a desire to protect a child from language that is not encouraged. However, Joel has lived and worked in the real world and understands that words like 'shucks' and 'gee whiz batman' probably would not be realistic when penning a story that is believable. His passion for people exceeds his desire to meet some neat little requirements that the Christian culture would slap upon him.

I applaud his efforts and deeply appreciate his gifts. I hope most readers/listeners will share his stories others. His stories can be enjoyed by those who do not live in worlds that seem to be safely insulated from the world that we live in.

2 out of 5 stars disappointed.......2007-02-20

My family enjoyed the plot lines and the Biblical connections that came about from time to time. I originally bought all of Joel's books (5) on audio cds so we could listen to during drive times in the car. I wanted my family to hear some background and achieve another level of understanding with regards to Iraq, Iran, Islam, Christianity, Judaism, the European Union, Israel, and the prophetic possibilties in the Holy Scriptures we call the Bible. We want them to understand why things are happening/playing out the way they are, and why which parties are involved.

Joel's books do this, giving you ideas of possible scenarios with regards to actual Biblical Prophecy. HOWEVER, as soon as we finish each audiobook, we will throw them away. Why? Brother Joel obviously is using the flawed undertaking that in order to reach the "lost" in the world (i.e. non-Believers), we need to put a little sin into something Biblical in order to make it palatible. Sadly, he ignores the Bible's direct explanations that a little leaven leavens the whole loaf. For years we've watched people fall out of the God of Israel's Holiness and play fake Christianity because they were "brought into the fold" by mixed modes of worldy/secular verions of Christianity. People are brought into the fold with a little leaven, and they live their "faith" out with leaven continually existing in various areas of their lives, having no problem with the sins, having no desire to be set-apart/kadosh/holy. Everybody's a Christian, just as long as they profess to be.... The violent content is a bit too discriptive at times for entertainment, though not unthinkable. FREQUENT use of the "hell" swear-word-fashion is quite uncomfortable. Finally, taking the use of "God" as slang term and in emphasis mode for emotive moments that obviously don't involve talking TO or ABOUT God Himself, is unnerving. "Hell" and "God" are used in completely unBiblical manners. Sometimes you'll "hear" both a professing Believer as WELL AS a non-Believer using these terms. Neither is acceptable in books written by Believers. I was quite embarased when it began happening over and over, and so was my family when we heard these books on audio cds. Un-charateristic for a Godly-man, such as Brother Joel professes to be.

Don't buy...violence and swearing/slang/blasphemy are frequent or inappropriate.

Book Description

All investigators funded by the National Institutes of Health are now required to receive training about the ethics of clinical research. Based on a course taught by the editors at NIH, Ethical and Regulatory Aspects of Clinical Research is the first book designed to help investigators meet this new requirement. The book begins with the history of human subjects research and guidelines instituted since World War II. It then covers various stages and components of the clinical trial process: designing the trial, recruiting participants, ensuring informed consent, studying special populations, and conducting international research. Concluding chapters address conflicts of interest, scientific misconduct, and challenges to the IRB system. The appendix provides sample informed consent forms.

This book will be used in undergraduate courses on research ethics and in schools of medicine and public health by students who are or will be carrying out clinical research. Professionals in need of such training and bioethicists also will be interested.

4 out of 5 stars It all came down to a betrayal? Story's done; time to start the next one........2007-01-22

As with almost all of Spider-man stories I have found enjoyment and always looked forward to the next one.(I'm a longtime Spiderfan and easy to please). Ezekiel had always been a mysterious, almost immortal figure since popping in to Parker's life. This chapter sums it all up very well, but I was disappointed with the ending. It felt like everything in the last several books culminated to this chapter and now there doesn't feel like there is anything on the horizon for Spider-mans legacy or the Parker's family, although I know better. Perhaps Ezekial will be Peter's Obi-wan Kenobi in future issues. In a way it kinda seemed like J. Micheal Strac. was unexpectedly running out of pages and had to "wrap it" up. Still, I was very pleased I bought this one and it again as I do will the previous chapters (yes--I read them all in order too! LOL).

5 out of 5 stars A happy Birthday?.......2006-09-21

Story: After a frusterating day at work, Peter Parker a.k.a Spider-man is just reflecting on his superhero identity and about if he's actually a hero when red lightning strikes. Er.. Red lightning? Never a good sign. So then Spidey goes on a search for the source of the problem and when he finds it, it turns out to be WAY more then a bad rainstorm. It's a limitless army of, really strong, really tough and really stupid drones. Plus, soon Spidey finds out there's an ultimate battle going every freakin superhero in the marvel phonebook and the mindless ones. But when a Mr Fantastic invention goes haywire and a Dr Strange spell gets messed up, Spider-man ends up seeing his beggining, his end and also he ends up facing every super villain he's ever faced and has to beat them all in a weakened state. To find out the conclusion you've gotta read this graphic novel. Also with a bonus 2 comics added to mix it up you'll really enjoy the story.

Art: 3 words, Looks-Really-Good.

value: while it's a little pricy, with the right amount of cash or a library card you'll get satisfaction garunteed.

Overall: Overall this is an awe some book and I reccomend this to any Spidey fan who can read.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive, read them all.......2006-06-12

Through reading these and other recent Spider-Man books (25 issues worth) one thing comes to mind: even through bad stories, Spider-Man is still the man. It may be controversial but I like the idea of Ezekiel, Morlun, the Spider totem, all of it. Spider-Man has to be changed up every once in awhile and this is a much better way to do it then killing people off, or a new costume. As Straczynski's run goes on he shows a new side to Spider-Man/Peter Parker, MJ, Aunt May, even Uncle Ben. Spider-Man is firmly in the Marvel Universe in this series, with random comings and goings from other heroes. On the other hand, Peter Parker is firmly in the real world during this run. Peter Parker in college has been tried before, but Peter Parker (as an adult of course) in high school? Well, that's different and incredibly entertaining. The new villains are memorable and the older cast reminds you why you loved them to begin with.

5 out of 5 stars The Book of Ezekiel.......2005-05-03

This is a great arc. First off the story begins where Spider-Man teams up with Loki!! It's not what you think. Your thinking that the Daily Bugle was right about Spider-Man and now he has turned to Loki's side. Nope. I think you'll be pleasently suprised.

Then we have another arc that ends the saga of Ezekiel!!

The artwork is great!!

The srory is great!!

What are you waiting for?!?

5 out of 5 stars Prophecy.......2003-07-13

The New Interpreter's Bible is a twelve-volume series, updating the popular Interpreter's Bible from a few decades ago. There are several key features common to all of the volumes of this series. First, each includes a two-column, double translation of the Biblical text (NIV - New International Version, and NRSV - New Revised Standard Version) arranged by topical unit or story. Then, they provide commentaries that look at the passages as a whole, as well as verse-by-verse. Third, interesting Reflection pieces that relate the passages to each other, to history, and to current concerns occur at the conclusion of each passage. Fourth, introductory articles for each book are provided that discuss transmission, historical background, cultural setting, literary concerns, and current scholarship. Finally, there are general articles about the Bible, each Testament, and various types of literature (Narrative, Gospel, Wisdom Literature, etc.) are provided to give general placement and knowledge about the text overall.

The list of contributors, editors, and consultants on the project is a veritable Who's Who of biblical and theological scholarship, representing all major traditions and schools of thought liberal and conservative. Leander Keck, of the Yale Divinity School, is the primary editor of the series.

The volumes were published individually, and can be purchased individually, which is a good thing, given that they are a bit expensive. But for any serious biblical scholar, preacher, student, or enthusiast, they are invaluable.

--Volume VI--

The sixth volume of the New Interpreter's Bible is the volume that introduces the Prophetic tradition in the Hebrew Scriptures. After an introductory essay concerning Prophetic Literature, the volume continues with the books of the major prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, and Ezekiel, as well as the apocrypal books of Baruch and the Letter of Jeremiah..

In his introductory general article on Prophetic Literature, David Petersen of the Illiff School of Theology looks at the diverse roles of the prophets in Israel's history, as well as the different kinds of poetic and prose produced by the prophets. Petersen addresses issues of the growth over time of prophetic voices, as well as the key issues brought up by the prophets over and over again, such as ethical norms, covenant, and the idea of ultimate hope in God. Petersen also looks at prophetic parallels in other cultures, concluding however that there are no true exemplars outside of the Bible given the scope and sophistication of Biblical prophecy.

The book of Isaiah is looked at as two distinct units, divided as I Isaiah (consisting of chapters 1-39), addressed by Gene Tucker of the Candler School of Theology, Emory, and II Isaiah (consisting of chapters 40-66), addressed by Christopher Seitz of St. Mary's College, University of St. Andrews, Scotland. This helps reinforced the radical difference in the text of Isaiah. Patrick Miller of Princeton Theological Seminary provides commentary on the book of Jeremiah. Anthony Saldarini of Boston College looks at both the book of Baruch and the Letter of Jeremiah. Kathleen O'Connor of Columbia Theological Seminary takes on the task of Lamentations, and Katheryn Pfisterer Darr completes the volume with her work on the book of Ezekiel.

The books of Baruch and the Letter of Jeremiah are called apocryphal because their status is not canonically clear within the Christian tradition. They are not contained in the official canon of the Hebrew scripture, and so Protestant tradition has tended to leave the books out of the Old Testament. However, these texts were included in the Septuagint, the primary Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures in the ancient world, and so the Roman Catholic and the Orthodox churches consider the texts canonical.

High praise goes to the general editorial staff for working with such strong authors/scholars, that their work fits together well as part of this set while retaining their individual characteristics (much like the writers of the Bible itself!).

    Book Description

AIDS is devastating many areas of sub-Saharan Africa.Over twelve million people in the region have died of AIDS in the past decade.Over 29.4 million people in the region are infected with HIV.Of the eleven people who contract HIV each minute in the world, ten live in sub-Saharan Africa. With no known cure and no vaccine as yet available, an estimated 60% of Africans under the age of eighteen today will be dead of AIDS before they reach 45 years of age. Most prevention programs have largely failed because the research behind them has focused primarily on "risk groups, " behavioral change models, and flawed understandings of cultural practices.HIV and AIDS in Africa: Beyond Epidemiology seeks to shift the predominant understandings generated by biomedical and epidemiological research, recognizing that HIV transmission in sub-Saharan Africa is a complex and regionally-specific phenomenon rooted in local economies, deepening poverty, migration, gender, war, global economies, and cultural politics. International contributors from across the social sciences further our understanding of AIDS by looking at the epidemic from angles often inadequately explored. Ultimately, the underlying message of every contributor to this book is that AIDS is not going to diminish in Africa until social, gender, and economic inequities are addressed in meaningful ways.

        Book Description

Ezekiel,  1-20, is Volume 22 in the Anchor Bible series of new,  book-by-book translations of the Old and New  Testaments and Apocrypha. This is the first of two  volumes on the prophetic book of  Ezekiel. It includes:

A new  translation of the book, followed by textual notes that  give readings from such ancient translations as  the Greek and the Syrian and from medieval Hebrew  manuscripts.

Sections titled  "Comment," offering clarification of grammar,  context, and other details, and "Structure  and Themes," a more general literary discussion  following each section of  translation.

Adherence to the Masoretic (traditional  Hebrew) text and extensive use of Rabbinic  literature.

A holistic interpretation showing  how many features of the text are interwoven and  integrated.
