Book Description
More than 65 delightful games and activities to jump-start your baby's amazing brainpower
Can simply singing a song or blowing a dandelion under a toddler's nose help her mind to blossom? Can your baby count, remember events, and solve problems even before he can talk? The exciting answer to both questions is yes!
Breakthrough research is revealing the extraordinary inborn abilities of infants.
It is also showing how experiences during the first years of life profoundly
influence intelligence, creativity, language development-and even later
reading and math skills.
Now two psychologists and child development experts-authors of the bestselling Baby Signs-have created a delightful guide for parents based on the most up-to-date knowledge of how babies discover the world. You'll learn how to:
_ Create a homemade mobile to stimulate your three-month-old's delight in solving problems
_ Play a patty-cake game to help your two-year-old
make logical connections
_ Initiate bedtime conversations that build your child's memory and sense of personal history
_ Develop "Baby Signs" to help your toddler communicate before he or she can talk
_ Stimulate your child's natural number skills with puppets and counting games
_ Use nursery rhymes and special read-aloud techniques to foster reading readiness
_ Nurture budding creativity with humor and fantasy play
_ And much more!
Baby Minds is not another program for creating "super babies." Instead it
builds on activities that babies instinctively love to develop their unique abilities and make your daily interactions full of the joy of discovery-for both of you.

Fabulous book - every parent should have!.......2007-08-01
I read this book and then bought a copy so I could keep it as a reference. Full of fascinating information about baby development that every parent should know -- I was surprised to learn just how advanced babies' minds are as soon as they are born, how they are much more aware of the world around them than previously thought. This book has many ideas of how to capitalize on your baby's brain development as s/he grows. Simple and fun games to play and ways to interact with your child. I love this book and have used many of the ideas already with my 8-month-old daughter.
Focusing Mr. Live Wire.......2007-05-13
Our first and only grandchild has the typical inquisitive mind of a toddler. This book helps us to offer additional play that will encourage the mind. It is the small things that have influenced him the most.
Great info on baby's brains!.......2007-03-28
Sort of a review of "Early Childhood Development" courses. With reference to Skinner and Vygotsky's work. Very interesting and a fast, easy read.
Interesting but wordy.......2006-11-04
This is an interesting book and it goes into detail about little minds, but some of it may be too technical for parents who just want to learn the games and not why or how they stimulate. Some parents might not have time to read all the background info and would like to just get down to the fun part, which is a little bit difficult with this book. Still, if you have the time to devote to this book, it really is interesting and enlightening and may encourage you to try to develop even more games to stimulate your child's growing mind which is certainly a good thing!

Great for moms new to the game.......2007-10-12
If you are someone who has not worked with children or been around children for an extended period of time this book would be very helpful. It has creative and fun ideas for playtime with the ones under 6 months that my husband found very useful. I recommend it for husbands, grandparents and new moms.
Great book!.......2007-09-28
I love this book! It is filled with great ideas, and organized by age range. The pictures are large and very helpful along with the descriptions of the activities. Even if you think you may have thought of some of these ideas on your own, it's hard to know when to introduce each activity and what specific skills it is building. This book is a great resource.
if you have any parental intuition, you're doing fine and don't need this book........2007-09-18
i found the activities in this book uninspiring. i was already implementing 99% of them just in my everyday interactions with my infant. i was hoping for something that would further enhance the development of my child, but it turns out the things that naturally occur to a parent are just fine. my baby is only 3 months, so perhaps the activites for older babies will be more interesting. the play for newborns was a disappointment.
NO New ideas in this book-only buy if u have not bought ANY baby items........2007-08-13
This book is very good and give you a lot of ways to interact with your infant and to help his development. However, a lot of the things are things child development books tell you to do and include things that are products on the market.
For example, the book has how to make tummy rolls from towels but, i had already purchased the boppy tummy time mat for this. If i had known or even thought about this towel method before I bought and opened the package then I would not have purchased the boppy.
A couple other examples are the play mat and mobile. This book tell you how to make them with things you already have in the home. Not much use if you have already assembled the baby's room and used the play mat. This is pretty much how things in the book are. There are no NEW ideas in this book.
Contains the activies I'd thought of, and more.......2007-07-23
Thanks to other reviewers, I found this book to be exactly what I wanted!
I use this book to vary the activities I do with my daughter and ensure I am working on varied developmental milestones. I particularly love the airplane exercise that has enabled me to work with my daughter on neck and abdomen physical development despite her reflux problem.
Pros
Broken down by age
Explains what's being developed in your child by the activity
Great for a first time parent
Cons
A couple of the activities seemed dangerous to me, so I skipped them
If you have a strong imagination, then maybe you don't need the book

Customer Reviews:
Great kit for beginners!.......2007-07-14
I love this kit. My baby just turned 6 months old, and we are beginning to sign to her (she already recognizes milk). The flash cards are very easy to understand. My 10 year old memorized all the signs from the flash cards in a day, and loves teaching them to us. The CD is great, too. The music is very enjoyable, and the songs are simple, but very catchy; you won't get bored after listening to them several times. I love the songbook, too. It makes it SO easy to sign during the songs because you're not signing every single word. The sturdy cardboard box is a plus. The only reason I gave four stars instead of 5 is that there are two songs with "Mommy and Daddy" in them, and we all know there are many "non-traditional" families out there, and it would have been nice (and pretty easy, I think) to have words that include all children's families. Other than that, it's wonderful.
LOVE THIS KIT!.......2007-07-05
I have been signing with my kids for 5 years now--and my kids now are 5, 3, and 1. I was looking for songs to use with signing besides the basic basics..and this book has it all. My 5 and 3 year old LOVE singing and signing the songs with me, and my 1 year old tries to sign along. My 3 year old will just start singing the songs on the cd so I see the songs as easy to remember, fun and appealing to kids. I see this as a GREAT activity to do in the car on trips and a wonderful way have fun together as a family. We have gotten through half the songs and I am saving the rest for our next trip! The signs are easy to figure out from the pictures and its just fabulous! I listened to Monta speak once and she is fabulous too! Definitely a great kit for moms that want to sign with their babies and toddlers. The cd is the best as well to add the music and fun into the whole experience! Definitely a great buy!
A Multi-wonderful product!.......2007-06-05
First of all, this kit is so complete. It's fun and easy to use. It comes with a great CD with beautiful and easy songs to pick up and sign to. It has a book of signs just for the songs. Then, it has great flash cards that are really easy to understand. And finally, it contains a main book of all kinds of signs which I've misplaced do to a move, but of what I remember, it was loaded with info and easy to decipher. I use the signs all the time and sing the songs and she always smiles in reconition when I do. She hasn't signed back yet, but hopefully one day I'll get my reward. If you want to teach your child to sign, this is a fun and easy place to start. It also has a great free website in it that you can refer to. I really enjoy using the kit and would give it a higher rating, but I misplaced the main book before I could use it and so I can't properly rate the entire kit, plus I don't know yet if it works.
excellent baby sign language kit!.......2007-02-06
This kit is great!!! It comes with a song book thats shows the signs and words to the accompanying Music cd. And it has an activty book that gives tons of simple games and activities for mom & baby. There is also a set of flashcard/picures with a picture of a real object on one side and the sign on the other side. All of this comes in a sturdy storage box. I can't wait to give this as a baby gift!
One kit does it all.......2007-01-29
This kit is fabulous. There is a song book that goes with the CD so you don't have to flip through the bigger book to find the words and signs. The larger book is a great reference for signs and activities to remember them. The flashcards are awesome, they have a color picture of the object on one side and then the word and sign on the other. The child learns sign language and how to read at the same time. Everyone in my sign language play group wants one after I brought it to play group last week. The other moms quickly picked up the songs and we were having a ball in no time with our infants.

Pretty but empty of substance.......2007-09-26
This is a great book to look at. It scream's GIFT ME! But if you look inside this book, you will find that you could do better with any number of game and craft resources. It is not useful if you have any other busy books.
Neat book!.......2007-02-03
I like this book for the simple fact that once you've tried everything you can think of to entertain your toddler, ALAS, comes this book through the mail. There's really neat activities, recipes , and crafts. It goes from infant to preschooler..so you'll get good use out of it. I would recommend this book to any mother.
a little disappointing.......2007-01-12
i really decided to buy this book because i wanted to find some activities i could do with my child that would help his development. but i was disappointed to find out that there was like 3 pages of stuff for children ages 0 to 6 months. this book was advertised as having stuff from birth to toddler, it shouldn't have misled people about what was in the book. i mean all there is for under 6 months is some rhymes and a couple of activities. i thought there was going to be some stuff about activities to help them reach their developmental milestones. i mean their are probably not many people that don't know the few rhymes and games that are in the book.
A staple if you have children.......2006-12-24
Engaging activities--simple and creative. Years of fun, playing, exploring, and learning. Easy to understand and do. We have loved it and given it as a gift to new parents, too. Wonderful!
A great resource idea book!.......2005-09-27
I get a TON of ideas from Wonderplay by Fretta Reitzes. I'm a home daycare provider and I'm always looking for ideas to do with my daycare kids. I don't know what I would do with out this book. It'a MUST have for home daycare providers and parents of small kids

Me Time Now?.......2007-01-22
I purchased this book to keep my 2 y/o busy. It worked. Colors aren't bright or dull. The pictures are cute and toddler appealing. Each page allows him to place Cheerios on pictures and encourages him to count how many he uses or name what he's using it for. The only problem I now have is how do I get him to stop eating so many Cheerios??? ;)
Great activity book!.......2007-01-11
Bought this for my 3 yr. old grandson who vomits whenever he "smells" cheerios! This book cured him. It was so fun to put the cheerios into the book he forgot to vomit!
He just loved the book and kept wanting to play with it.
The Cheerios Play Book.......2006-11-13
My almost-two-year-old grandson loves the Cheerios book series. My daughter commented that the purpose of the book is well served - he likes eating the Cheerios! The Cheerios help make the learning activities fun. I've bought some of the books for gifts for friends' kids, too.
The Cheerios Play Book.......2006-07-29
I purchased this book for my two year old son so that he can start showing his 10 month old sister how to play with cheerios! He loves placing the cheerios on each page. Great learning book!
Fun way to eat for sure.......2006-06-25
She loves cheerios and books so this combination just took off for her. My daughter who is currently 21 months old will sit in her high chair, and instead of having the tv on chooses to play with the book while eating. (not saying that happens every day)

Tasha Tudor--illustrator of more than 70 books for children--is known for her charming drawings of children and animals; delicate, flower-filled borders; and delightful settings from days gone by. In this edition of Robert Louis Stevenson's venerated volume of children's poems, Tudor's old-fashioned illustrations perfectly complement the poetry that has survived a century in print. Here is a comfortable world of sunny gardens and storybooks, where children play with toy soldiers and imaginary friends. You may remember some of these poems from your own childhood, such as "My Shadow," "The Swing," and "The Land of Counterpane." If time is any judge, this garden of delights will stay a perennial favorite. (Ages 4 to adult)
Book Description
Here is a classic, illustrated edition of one of the best loved poetry collections in the world. Lavishly illustrated with more than 100 pictures by the most distinguished children's book artists of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, this edition of A Child's Garden of Verses contains all the poems that appeared in the original book, published over 100 years ago.
This is a volume to be cherished for a lifetime: by parents and by grandparents who grew up with the poems and, most of all, by children who are being introduced to this extraordinary collection for the first time.

Who says you can't go back...........2006-03-08
Just love the works of Robert Louis Stevenson. Loved them
as a child and still do. And the illustrations are
wonderful - reminds me of when I was a little girl, and
we sometimes need that.
Beautiful edition of a classic.......2006-02-17
A Child's Garden of Verses has always been one of my favorite books, and over the years I've given dozens of copies of it as First Birthday presents to the new children in my life. This is the most beautiful edition I have ever seen of these beloved poems. The illustrations are wonderful! They're taken from numerous editions over the years, and they cover a variety of styles and time periods. I couldn't be happier with this book, and I can't wait for the opportunity to give it to more children who I hope will grow to love it as much as I do.
The world is so full of a number of things
I'm sure we should all be as happy as kings.
An exceptional book.......2006-01-24
The poems are charming and the illustrations are beautiful. I like it as much today as I did when I was a child.
My kids, 6 and 4, were not thrilled with the book either. Their interest in the book revolves around the illustrations--why do the boys look like girls, why are they wearing sailor suits, and where are the pirates?
At any rate, even if your child does not enjoy the poetry, it is a good opportunity for kids to learn about what life was like for children a long time ago--what they wore, the games they played, and how they lived.
A Treasure.......2005-08-09
This is a beautiful book, using some of the same artwork as the book I grew up with in the 1940's, and enhanced by other works of art. The poetry, although from another age, still appeals to children with its beautiful rhythms and clever rhymes.
A beautiful melding of words and pictures.......2002-07-10
Most everyone knows that Robert Louis Stevenson was sickly, both as a child and as an adult, and the happy result for the reading public was his nearly feverish flights of imagination. Here, in an edition of his classic "A Child's Garden of Verses," that fever is complemented in spades by the fantastical illustrations of English artist Joanna Isles.
Isles uses an arsenal of utterly frivolous flowers, borders, insects, birds, kings and queens, fairies, and more to expand upon the imagination exhibited in Stevenson's poems. The children in these pictures are depicted as being in charge, being at one with their environment, and being delighted to be alive.
Some of the illustrations hint at the influence of artists more famed than Isles (Henri Rousseau appears to be a special favorite of hers--see the illustration for "The Unseen Playmate," in which a boy lies down in weeds that might have sprung from the edge of Rousseau's painting "The Dream"). Using both primary colors and pastels, Isles creates a world within the world of Stevenson's verse. The marriage of the two is a happy one.
Book Description
Interact with each Baby Einstein character as they help your child learn new concepts, including Baby Galileo watching the sunset and Baby Van Gogh painting brilliant flowers. These characters will jump off the page and into your child's imagination. With sound buttons for each page, this Pop-up Song Book allows children to participate with the story though singing familiar songs.
Customer Reviews:
so-so.......2007-08-13
I think this book is better for an older child, my 18 mo. old destroyed the pop ups.
Musical and colorful.......2007-08-13
I love the Baby Einstein books and this one is wonderful too. It is colorful and fun. It is a fun and fast read that uses a words that help enlarge your child's vocabulary. The pop ups are great too. The only downside is that the buttons to press to play music last a long time. The songs go on for a long time and last a lot longer than it takes to read the words on the page. I tend to just talk over the music and continue turning pages or it would take a lot longer to read.
not sing along.......2007-01-10
The images are colorful and music is good enough. But I must have mis read that this was a sing along, as when a person reads each page, my toddler naturally wants to hit the button that corresponds to the page. Of course this causes the music to play and reading w/the music relating to the page is very difficult, as it doesn't "match" the words or theme showing!
So buy it and just enjoy the music and read later.
Too fragile for a toddler.......2006-12-20
This book is too fragile for a toddler to handle. Its nearly impossible to open up the page and try to have a 3D look without tear off parts of it. The pages are too flimsy. Battery issues as with other song books exist too.
Posessed book!.......2006-11-22
Last night, as I was falling asleep, this book started playing music all by itself. It wouldn't stop. Very obnoxious!
Also, my toddler has managed to pull out some of the pop-up pages.
Customer Reviews:
Fun to do!.......2007-09-21
This book has a lot of good ideas on things to do with your child. I had a number of books that were for older kids and the stuff just wasn't applicable to the age group I was dealing with. When I first read this, a lot of the stuff was still a little past my sons abilities, but as he's gotten older and -MUCH- more mobile, these ideas are perfect.
If you're struggling trying to find things to do with your child(ren) grab a copy and have a blast!
A great resource idea book!.......2005-09-27
I get a TON of ideas from Baby Days by Barbara Rowley. I'm a home daycare provider and I'm always looking for ideas to do with my daycare kids. I don't know what I would do with out this book. It'a MUST have for home daycare providers and parents of small kids
not worth the money.......2004-02-16
I bought this book based on the good reviews, but after reading it myself it's not worth the money. The activities she comes up with are too simple- fingerpaint or play ball. I thought of them on my own!! I was hoping for ideas that were not so obvious. She also has alot of ideas that use toothpicks?! not a toddler friendly item!!!
Looks good.......2003-12-16
Took this book out of the library first and was impressed. Now I have ideas what to do with my 15 month old son when we are home over the Xmas holidays. The messyness factor is a very good idea.
Lots of good ideas.......2003-03-31
If you are looking for some structured ideas, laid out completely, buy this book. I found a lot of great ideas in here. The only thing I don't really like is the author's semi-preachy style of writing. Ignore that and use this as a resource for some fun time with your toddler.

Book Description
Helen Oxenbury's delightful board books, featuring her sweet and cuddly babies at play, are back with a whole new look.
Customer Reviews:
an ideal choice for babies and toddlers.......2007-01-26
Clap Hands, together with Tickle, Tickle, Say Goodnight, and All Fall Down, is a lovely set of books showing babies having fun together. Sweet, simple illustrations are just right for little ones. Oxenbury's babies look like they could toddle right off the pages!
In my grad school children's literature classes, Helen Oxenbury was held up as the model for good books for babies. Unlike so many board books that are abridged versions of picture books written for older children, Oxenbury's books are created for babies. The illustrations, length, and text of each book are perfectly age-appropriate and great fun for little ones.
I tell library visitors all the time that it's never too early to begin reading to a child. Books like these are the ones I recommend again and again for the youngest listeners.
My Baby's Got Rhythm--Fun and Realistic Toddler Play!.......2006-10-06
The talented and prolific Helen Oxen bury ("We're Going on a Bear Hunt," the "Tom and Pippa" series) is a master at board books as well as picture books aimed at a slightly older audience. Clap Hands is a large format board book (there should be more of these!) showing four adorably dressed youngsters at play and snack time. For once, we see kids as they really look: Wearing oversized hand-me-downs that show evidence of the kids' pulling and tugging at them, and generally flopping around.
"Clap Hands" has a joyful feeling, and somehow Oxenbury captures the spontaneity of baby and toddler play, and the conflicting demands of seemingly unlimited energy and inevitable fatigue. Our four kids dance, eat snacks play cardboard "horns" and pots-and- pans percussion, and give big hand waving smiles to Daddy and Mom.
Board books are so brief--eight pages here--that they're like short stories, the best ones pay attention to every word and detail. Oxenbury uncannily gets it all right, from the above-mentioned clothing, to the off-kilter movement, the mix of solo and cooperative play, and even the utensils and slices of fruit at snack. The uncluttered, large format pictures have a nice color balance, and the playful text reads easily ("Clap hands, dance and spin, open wide and pop it in...") One of several in Ms. Oxenbury's baby book series, this is just right for reading to either one listener or a group.
Great kids book!.......2005-10-17
All 3 of my girls enjoyed this book (a series of 4). I even bought the set of 4 books for my nephew and niece. They are quick, catchy reads. Kids love the big pictures of the babies.

As the parent of a child who was a voracious reader; (we read tons of books together when she was small) I really was not at all impressed with this book. I purchased this book for my friend's little boy, based on the reviews here and was so disappointed. Granted some time had passed since I bought children's books, but I have started buying them again for my grandaughter. I returned it because I felt too embarassed to give this book. The only cute feature about this book is the eye catching illustrations that would appeal to toddlers. Story or content wise, it's about as much fun to read as watching paint dry.

We received this book as a gift when my son was 6 months old. We now have all of these books. My son is intrigued by the pictures and wants us to read it over and over! He's 15 months now and still loves it! A great book!
