I read all thier books. I only recommend you buy 1 & II. The rest are just repetitive, with marginal returns. I respect this book, it has enlightened me on the different unhealthy daily habits. In the beggining, following the new system was very tough. It was the positive results that kept me going. It requires lots of self discipline. After reading all thier books, I no longer need to be reminded or convinced of the harm from flesh foods and dairy products and wrong food combining. I am at a phase where I am researching new recipes to grow the list of healthy meals. Its tougher than I tought, but worth the effort. Therefore buying thier cookbooks, and different vegan author's cook books is also recommended. Enjoy,
Finally...a program I can live with!.......2007-06-18
After having tried so many different programs and not being able to last a day or two on them, I was so excited when I came across the Fit For Life Program. I have only been on it for 4 days now and I have already lost about 9 pounds. My energy level is incredible and my cravings for sugary foods have all but disappeared. The swelling in my face has gone down tremendously and I am already receiving compliments on how nice I look. It is interesting to note that most of those who condemn this program with their comments failed to mention that they ever gave it a chance. The only complaint I would have is that the program is kind of chopped up and placed in many different parts of the book. It would be easier if it were laid out all together so you wouldn't have any questions. You might have to go to the beginning to find a basic answer to how the program works and then skip 100 pages forward to understand how different parts work. Nevertheless, it is not difficult to understand. I can't believe how full I become on such small amounts of food now! I used to stuff my face all day long always feeling hungry and now I eat an ordinary proportion and feel full all the way into the next day! I recommend this book to all those who are tired of being lifeless and fat and who have tried everything under the sun...always hungry, always deprived. You will not feel this way with Fit For Life!

I would like to review the book, but unfortunately I have not received the book. My order was suppose to be in on the 17th of July. I called customer service, they did try to trace it. Someone called me back and told me the books had been shipped to Pgh. but no one seems to know what has happened to them. I have been charged for the books but have not received any books. David's books hit the target straight on. No fuss, no muss, no fancy this or that. The plan is simple. Eat right and start moving. Change your life and lifestyle forever. Not once did I feel I was deprived of any particular foods. I went from 240 to 222 and am still re-shaping. Lots of new muscle and definition (and I'm 55, imagine that!). I like to do sprint triathlons and this book has helped me improve tremendously. Can't recommend this book and the sister books enough. Get it, read it, do it. You'll love it.

This book was great and it brought to attention how much terrible things are used to mass produce foods today. I know have a better idea of what to avoid and what to eat a lot of. I have noticed a big difference in my life and the way I feel on an everyday basis.

This book is amazing! It is exactly the solution I needed! It explains, in detail, what is happening to my forty something body. My body has been changing for years now, and the weight has piled on and the old solutions just don't do it anymore. This book has helped me to understand that this has been going on for awhile and unless I change the way I treat my body, it will not get any better. It's not about DIET, but about what you eat and when you eat it. It's about recognizing when stress hits and navigating through it in a non-destructive manor. I now have hope and can't wait to begin this new journey. I realize that without my health and well being, I have nothing. Thanks!
Fight Fat Over Forty Explained and Helped a Lot.......2007-04-23
I'm a Stress Overeater over 50 and this book explains a lot. It also explains why it is necessary, not overindulgent, to continue with my twice per week personal trainer for upper body and core workouts (which I rarely would do on my own) and my twice per week long hikes. I have made other changes which have helped me slowly but surely "remove" the excess weight. If I don't do something perfectly, I don't stress over it, which helps in the long run. For some reason, this book made sense to me and convinced me of what habits I need to stop, continue, and do more of.
I also can spot stress undereaters, and I am now more compassionate than envious (the ones I know are thin and look good, but I know they are also stressed.)
Fighting Fat After Forty is validating!.......2006-07-28
I haven't even finished this book and I've lost 10 pounds. This is the first weight loss in 5 years for me and all I did was change the times I eat! Pamela Peeke is the first doctor to truly understand and work with how a woman's body changes during perimenopause and menopause and it really validates you as a person. You aren't nuts; you really are changing. I can't believe how motivated I am. This is a definite buy and a book that I will save and give to my own daughter.
Be Prepared to Fight Back!.......2006-05-04
I first heard about Dr. Peeke on Discovery Channel's Body Challenge. I read this book cover to cover and it hit me; this is why I've had trouble losing weight! It helped me to understand how stress-eating was affecting my inability to lose weight; or to keep it off. I highly recommend this book and I'm not kidding about how much help it's been to me. The proof is in the 24 lbs lost and 4% fat loss in 10 weeks! What do you have to lose???

I hope they release new books, with new and very detailed advice.
I believe, the phase of convincing the people of harmful food habits, is way gone. We are at a phase, where we want to do something about it. Just give us the details how. The positive energy from this book is superb. THe effect it has had on my families life, and my peers is astounding. I highly recommend it.
My pants fell down.......2007-06-22
One August morning in 1988 I got off a bus on (I think) Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles. I was on vacation, and it was a beautiful day. But I felt lousy, lacking energy and feeling generally sluggish. What's more, I'd had a "good" breakfast -- eggs & toast. After finding myself on Wilshire Boulevard, I noticed a Crown Books & thought, there must be something here to help me. I picked up a copy of FIT FOR LIFE, the first one. Where I came from it wasn't easy to get avocadoes, let alone distilled water, which was only used in irons. But for the next three weeks I was able to give it a try. I shopped at the Erewhon health food store, I remember. I adhered strictly to the Diamonds' regimen -- not following every meal instruction, but not infringing the rules either. I returned to my native country, and about four weeks after buying the book, I noticed that my pants were falling off me. I was perplexed for a while, because losing weight wasn't in my calculations. I just wanted to feel good. But after a bit the penny dropped, as had the fifteen pounds that I could obviously afford to lose (along with my pants, which I couldn't). By the way, I also felt a hell of a lot better.
It may or may not be that the Diamonds get carried away at times. They would not recommend diet alone for the treatment of cancer or a broken leg. Use your common sense. I have not remained fully true to the program over the years but as they recommend, do what you can.
Fit for Life.......2007-05-12
My nephew and his friends and I have been following the Fit for Life philosohphy for two months and find that they have dropped 15 to 25 pounds. I have followed the philosophy for one month and have dropped fifteen pounds. I was following the South Beach Diet and find eating the live foods agrees with me more. I have more energy than before. My joints are feeling better. My entire body is more alive it seems.
I have recommended this book to many others in the hopes that they too will feel better.

I bought and read this book years ago. At the time, the Diamonds seemed to make a good case for their viewpoint. After researching their claims over the years, I have discovered that most of what they claim is pure fiction and has no basis in the real world. They seem to know enough about their subject to be dangerous but not enough to actually offer sound advice.
Take what they say with a grain of salt and research their claims before putting any of it into practice.
Detractors haven't tried it. Fruit's Not a Fad........2006-02-24
The negative reviews seem to be all the same and don't seem to have tried it and maybe even haven't read it. There's nothing unhealthy about eating fruit in the morning. Eating anything you want after noon is hardly a fad diet. The book just suggests eating things separately like a big steak and greens rather than adding a bunch of fillers like potatoes. It suggests eating all the starches you want but just not with the steak as it complicates the digestion process. I like to eat that way anyway. Give me more meat and less potatoes any day! The book suggests exercise. That's not a fad. It's just common sense. The book suggests not drinking coffee. If you eat fruit, you can really pound the coffee and still come out feeling good. I like Fast Food Friday's more than most but eating more sensibly is nothing but a positive. If you are a runner or some other athlete and have plateaued, you should consider their suggestions. You won't hit the wall so easy if you eat the fruit.

I loved "Fit For Life, and now reading the "New Way Of Eating From The Fit For Life Kitchen"...Lots more information on perfectly combining and eating...I couldn't put it down...I learned so much more and this is a new way of life for me and I highly recommend this for anyone who is totally serious about learning a new way of life, it is not a diet, it's a way of life that makes you feel so much better and it's so much healthier...
Simple, healthy recipes that taste good.......2002-01-21
I like this cooking book and use it wuite often. It has several sections, and I especially like the one on salads and salad dressings and the one of fruit smoothies. The book can actually be used by people who have not read the Fit for Life books, too, as it contains a summary of the main info on food combining and fruit consumption; while Fit for Life fans will like it as it will bring nice new recipes in their kitchen, while still assuring them they are eating as healthy as possible.
The book contains several sections: fruit smoothies, juices and salads; vegetable salads and many dressings for them: sandwitches (yes, you can have a properly combined sandwicth, and once you had one, you won't want to go back to the old way!); soups; vegetable dishes; feast and buffest dishes.
The recipes are simple to realize even for people who don't have much experience in cooking, and they are realized with readily available items. This book will allow you to cook for your family and know they are eating properly without much effort on your side, and they'll like what you cook!
Particularly recommended for vegetarians! But anyone will like this book.

Especially since I will soon be entering the 40 generation and there is so much anxiety and uneasiness of what will happen during the menopause period that it was very refreshing to read such a healthy, happy, and natural way of looking at menopause/perimenopause period... Fabulous book that has good solid information on fitness and nutrition for life. Honestly and frankly discusses the physical and emotional problems many of us experience in our forties and beyond; including discussion on ways to alleviate those symptoms. The exercises are easy to follow and can be done in your own home without buying lots of expensive equipment. This is a great lifetime plan!

I had high hopes for this book, and was disappointed. It offers nothing new, just rehashes the same information that can be found in countless other health/fitness books. It might be helpful to you if you've never bought a book on this subject matter before, but if you've already read and/or owned books on health and fitness for women, save your money. I only wish I'd had the time to really look closely at this book before my 30 day window of opportunity to return it had passed.

I found the information regarding exercise and nutrition to be very practical, and easy to fit into any lifestyle, which is key to staying with any program. Kathy Kaehler is role model for us all; balancing family, career, and womanhood. Hurrah!

this is a really good book. his original fit for life book also has some very good info in it, the diet regimen part of it less so in my opinion. but here he puts it all together, and focuses primarily on the link between diet and disease, using cancer as his main example. it has the feel of a great debunking text, as in, here is the fundamental and unassailable link between diet and health, the food we eat and the illness and disease that follow -- a basic truth that the AMA, FDA and pharmaceutical companies prefer you not see, as they pour billions of dollars of dollars into ads and countless propaganda. and then he shows, like john robbins' diet for a new america, that the paradigm of destruction of the S.A.D. (sad or standard american diet) extends not only to our health but also to pollution and ecological damage on a grand scale. the type of book you should read and then send copies to your friends. cheers, jg
The Truth Unleashed.......2004-07-23
This is a great book with Harvey at times unleashing his full venom at the medical profession, food industry and fellow dieticians. He is speaking up for the truth and I happen to believe him. Why? Because I have tested and followed the Fit for Life principles myself and they work.
However before reading this book (which I call Fit for Life III), I would advise buying and following the principles laid out in the first two books i.e. Fit for Life and Fit for Life II. They are easier to read, gentler (probably because they were written in partnership with Marilyn!) and cover the essential dietary/lifestyle principles you need to follow.
This book contains exactly the same text word for word as Fit for Life: A New Beginning (apart from the cover is different and the book is physically bigger), so if you want to save yourself some money I would buy that one instead. I would have rated the book 5 stars, if it was not for this point.

If you are at all interested in learning how to have complete and total control of your own health and how to confidently and easily live a sickness, pain and disease free life this book is definitely for you. In a climate of ever increasing statistics of disease and ill-health the clear and simple ideas of this book are nothing short of a Godsend. Since the medical profession, the single biggest industry in this country, makes the enormous amount of money that it does by the population being and remaining sick and full of disease they would have us believe that living a healthy disease free life is totally beyond our control. Deborah Benton has written a must-read book for all us cubicle dwellers who lack real credentials or talent but nevertheless want a quick, if flimsy, façade of competence and don't mind being a little sleazy about getting it.
Here is Barnum's dream - a handbook for creating an artificial aura of respectability. Forget your lack of organization skills, inability to use written English, and that little sexual harassment episode. None of that matters now. Instead, it's all about pausing before you enter a room, or adjusting your chair to create "your" space.
If you want to silicone-enhance your career prospects, read this book.

I find this book insulting and find that the author reminds me of the Ask Heloise lady for *corportate culture.* Bleh is right. This was required reading from an executive and it blows. Insightful is right - but I disagree -if we all listened to these "techniques" than no one would have individuality. I believe that you can be distinct and STAND OUT without conforming to this lady's advice. Hello 90s - wake up it's 2007 - and her ways are antiquated. Corporate culture is changing. I wonder what she'd have to say about that?

An excellent perspective on how we often sell out the true call of our faith for a consumer substitute. A challenge to guard against being so lulled by the comforts and trappings of suburban-American life that we literally begin to mix values that don't belong in our faith. That's called syncretism and as The Jesus of Suburbia makes clear, it's a big mistake.
To take the vision of this book seriously would lead to a beautiful living out of our faith as followers of Christ in the midst of our culture. This is excellent and accessible material that you can easily use in a small-group setting or to inform your teaching. As a pastor myself, I highly recommend it.
You may also be interested in learning more about ROCKHARBOR Church in Costa Mesa, CA where Mike Erre is the Teaching Pastor. It is a community of faith striving to live it's values in impressively unique ways despite it's location in the plush sun-drenched mall-topia of Orange County.
