KARIN WAS RIGHT.......2007-08-19
I just got this book and I too am glad I did not pay attention to the ONE negative review.... I know, everybody has the liberty of saying what they think, but I was truly surprised and inspired once I opened this book! I cannot wait to finish reading it and putting into practice its tips! Thank you Vicki Mcmurry!
Scooterpaints.......2007-03-19
I spent the afternoon with 2 other artists; one brought this book to share... we were oohing and aahing. I had to buy immediately & can hardly wait for my own copy to arrive. For those painting awhile, we don't need the basics and it's good to have such wonderful artists sharing their techniques to inspire us. I look forward to having this in my 'arsenal'.
Awesome book, as beautiful and inspiring as the cover!.......2007-02-17
If you love color and are ready to take your painting to the next level, this is the book for you! I just received Ms. McMurry's masterpiece a few days ago and was so pleasantly surprised. Please do not listen to the ONE negative review - (I almost did and am so glad I went with my intuition instead...) this wonderful treat is as gorgeous on each page as the cover promises. If you are touched by the passionate painting on the cover as I was, you will love the book. Not only is it a visual feast, but Ms. Mcmurry takes us inside her knowledge and discoveries of a painter. She is like a friend sharing her secrets.
Even just flipping through the pages I have picked up many new tips (and I've been painting all my life...) and can't wait to read the whole book cover to cover. In addition to the great insights and instruction, I find the best way to learn from great artists is to just "absorb" the paintings and let them affect you a on a deep level- each of Vicky's paintings is like a "transmission" of color mastery.
Even though this may not be the perfect book for a complete beginner (the title is "MASTERING Color" afterall...), I believe that painters of all levels (and art lovers...) will greatly benefit from this treasure.
And by the way, I have never met Ms. Mcmurry (although I'd love to study with her...) and didn't even know about her until a few days ago. I just love her book and art, and find it sad that beacuse of one bad review many folks might be missing out on it. If you enjoy this book, please write a little note to let folks know.
Happy Painting!
I wish I didn't buy it.......2007-01-29
This book really has annoyed me. I knew nothing about using color in oil paintings, and I still know nothing after reading it:
1) The book is basically a series of pictures of this artist's paintings (one or two per page), with really little comments near them. The pages are really empty: small pictures with little text.
2) Sometimes the author speaks about techniques (i.e. direct or indirect painting)
and after reading the text I still don't understand what is she talking about.
3) There are also a lot of trivial explanations (like that of primary, secondary colors, etc.) that it seems a joke dedicating a lot of space to them.
4) The paintings are almost all beautiful, but it is not worthwhile buying the book just to see the illustrations.
5) The most of the explanations sound to me like: "I thought I could use red here, and I did it. I like the result because it reflects the emotions I had when I was
painting. You must do what you find right". Do I have to extract a knowledge from that?
After reading the book I thought the author made an effort to avoid good explanations. Perhaps this book is not intended for beginners like me, but I think it is a bad book for everyone. She seems a good painter, but this book tells me she is not a good teacher.
Sorry for the comparison (because they seem to follow different goals), but "Painting the Impressionist Landscape" from Lois Griffel is infinitely better than this one
from Mcmurry. I never regreted buying Griffel's.
You are warned: don't let a good cover mislead you.

Review of the large animal atlas.......2006-11-10
This book is an excellent resource for the serious student of veterinary medicine and clinician alike. The pictures and illustrations are so complete it is almost as good as a virtual dissection. The format is easily moved through and the quality of the book in material, picture, discussion, etc. are authoritative and extremely helpful to the novice and allow for quick reference for the experienced clinician.
Spurgeon's Color Atlas of Large Animal Anatomy.......2000-06-11
I am a fourth year vet student and have found this book to be a great clinical reference book. It is an especially useful tool for rectal palpation - an essential skill for any large animal practitioner to master. I highly recommend Spurgeon's Atlas to anyone interested in large animal anatomy.
Book Description
Do You See What I See? offers leaders, managers, and human resource professionals a unique and practical resource for understanding the behavioral subtleties and nuances that affect the retention of people of color within organizations. Through the imaginative use of a fable, authors Janice Fenn and Chandra G. Irvin are able to show different points of view of leaders, managers, and newly recruited POC. In the fable a mirror comes to life and offers insightful reflections that help executives and managers understand what it takes to retain POC in a highly competitive marketplace. Step by step the authors clearly show what happened, what should have happened, conclusions that were drawn, and conclusions that should have been drawn. The fable offers the opportunity for leaders and managers to identify and address similar issues in their real life organizations.

Customer Reviews:
Incredibly powerful.......2007-01-11
This book is an incredible reference for color theory and history. The inclusion of full panels of color reference make it one of the most useful books on the subject I've ever found.
Very Useful.......2006-02-24
I am in fashion design and have found the color palettes very useful in designing collections. Also, the text is informative without being boring.
Great color palettes.......2005-07-09
I'm a graphic designer and this is a great book to look for color palettes. It explains what period the palette is from and gives you cultural information from that period. The palettes are different and beautiful. Margaret Walsh is a highly respected woman for her color knowledge.
Unwieldly and Difficult To Use.......2003-12-23
The dual spiral constuction of this book makes any it practically impossible to read through the text while keeping the color swatches in view. I find the book to be shabbily put together - the spiral separated from the binding after one gentle use, so I was glad to have picked it up at a bargain book outlet.
There is some useful information in there, but getting it all together is not simple.
An excellent analysis of color palettes across art history.......1999-01-06
This is an excellent book if you want to compare and analyze the basic color palettes used by various art movements and at different times in history. The unique double spiral bound book allows you to look at color illustrations and flip the palettes independently so you to compare and contrast palettes and artwork. I think this would be useful for artists and designers of all sorts including theatre designers.

Aura-Soma represents a subtle, holistic, nonintrusive therapy that heals, energizes, and also revitalizes the human aura.
Customer Reviews:
Great Resource on Aura Soma products.......2005-02-14
I gave this book 5 stars for the information pertaining to Aura Soma products - the information is detailed not only about each individual product, but also regarding differences between different types of products as well as how to use them. In that respect, it will prove as an invaluable guide if you are using Aura Soma products.
As for the esoteric information presented in this book - at times it is botched up and it seems that the authors themselves were confused. At the beginning of the book they quote Pelham stating that his work (creating flower essences) is not like alchemy because he considers "alchemy as something egocentric, for the alchemist sees him or herself as one who creates something". All that I can say is that the individual is truly ignorant of alchemy and genuine alchemists because the goal of alchemy is just the same as of any spiritual tradition - Self-realization, realization of Oneness with All, realization that all is spiritual and it is impossible to engage in true alchemy without bringing Spirit into equasion. Alchemy is about transmutation of one's "lower nature", or one's "mortal self" (mortal consciousness) into spiritual,
Aura-Soma system is, according to this book, conceived upon the Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah), and Vicky Wall, being of Hassidic background has some initial challenge naming one of the products "Christ". The authors took care to point out that this product is not named after the "historical" Christ, but after Christ consciousness. I may add that for some people this distinction doesn't really exist - after all, Christ (historical) did get the "title" Christ, as he attained "Christ consciousness" (a realization of Oneness with All).
There are many products which are named after an assortment of ascended masters (by the way, among others, there is also St. Germain, who is very well known as an "alchemist"). Instead of perhaps simply saying that the products are intended to stimulate the vibrations in the user that are represented by these "masters", the authors have brought in Theosophy as a "convincer" of the existence of the masters. While there is a rather lengthy discourse on Theosophy, there is hardly anything in those quotations said about the "masters" and I think that the best way for any individual to learn more about "masters' specific vibrations" is through personal experience.
Perhaps, they should've just left the products speak for themselves, because they truly are wonderful and they will work for you even if you simply follow your intuition and your inner guidance in picking the right ones. My original choice of products, before reading this book, did not change - if anything it became reinforced and I may add that I had many wonderful experiences with thes products from the very first day I began using them. The colors are feast for the eyes, and the herbal essences and scents make you feel as if your mind and heart, soul and body are nourished and uplifted. I've also had some very interesting dreams, so all I can say about the products I have been tremendously enjoying them and find that they have enriched my life.
Essential Reading.......2001-11-10
If you have ever experienced Aura-Soma you must have this book in your personal library. Known as the Aura-Soma Practitioner's Bible, this book gives indepth information on Aura-Soma and it's main product line. The primary focus of this book is on the 100+ Equilibrium Bottles giving detailed information on all aspects of each bottle.
This book also has all you will ever need to know about the Aura-Soma Pomanders and Quintessences. If you don't know what they are, you need to read the book to find out. Easy to follow, and easy to use, this book is a must. Lots of information for very little money.

Cynthia L. Shattuck and Fredrica Harris Thompsett, Editors This unique collection of writings by Verna Dozier, eloquent prophet and teacher of the Bible, features selections from all her available work, including The Authority of the Laity, Equipping the Saints, her unfinished manuscript on the Bible, sermons, and interviews. Subsequent chapters cover her approach and method of studying Scripture, teaching on Bible stories, her challenge to the church, and questions of ambiguity, morality, and faith. 5 1/4 x 8 1/4 Paperback 160 pp

Captures the essence of this proud, passionate, and pious woman.......2006-10-07
Confronted By God: The Essential Verna Dozier by co-editors Cynthia L. Shattuck & Fredrica Harris Thompsett is a carefully selected assembly of the writings of Verna Dozier, a Christian African-American woman dedicated to speaking out for the sake of the poor, dedicating herself to spreading the idea of equality as God's great dream. Confronted By God captures the essence of this proud, passionate, and pious woman, and invokes both compassion and contemplation at length in the reader. "Has anyone called you a fanatic lately? And if they did, was it because you were so set on establishing a morality for someone else, or because you were intent on a private piety, or because you were willing to risk every known security that someone else might have a richer life?"

Customer Reviews:
Okay book on color.......2006-12-29
I should probably give this book a higher rating because it really is a decent book on color. My problem with the book is that all of the layouts included in the book are not my preferred style of layout. they are all very busy, "junked up" pages and I have a much more classic, clean style of scrapbooking. The descriptions of color and color style are good and the layouts in the book do demonstrate the color schemes as described, it's just not my style.
