5 out of 5 stars I love Thimbleberrys.......2007-03-09

I was unsure of purchasing a quilting book online since you cannot see what all the book includes as far as patterns. When I received this in the mail I was plesantly pleased. There are many beautiful patterns to choose from. Along with easy to understand instructions.

5 out of 5 stars what a great series.......2007-01-04

Thimbleberries Books are great! Easy to read, lovely to look at at, fun to use!

5 out of 5 stars Simple, Warm, Elegant and (best of all) Easy........2002-09-24

The Thimbleberries line of fabrics are so warm and yummy they are like snuggling in your mothers lap. The patterns in this book are simple, uncongested and just plain calming. They almost force you to slow down and soak up the warmth of a fireplace and the security of your home. If your not on the war path to really impress your friends or to out-do the Jones's than get this for some good ole fashioned patterns that you can imagine your great grandmother stitching. Maybe one day your great grand-daughter will still be snuggling in it.

5 out of 5 stars I love this book!.......2002-06-28

Even to just curl up with on the couch to look at.

There's a beautiful selection of quilts, with a 'down-to-earth' appeal. Over the past couple years, I've become a big fan of Lynette Jensen's work, and she did a great job on this book! (I've had this book for quite awhile but never got the chance to comment until now, as I spent alot of my spare time quilting.)

The best way I can describe these quilts are that they give you this 'cozy country' feeling. From wallhangings, to pillows, to placemats and tablerunners to fullsize quilts, its one of those books which will remain in my quilting library for years. I really like practically all of the quilts inside this book, which is quite a rare thing to say about a book. I'd highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome and Easy Patterns.......2002-04-27

She is very country and I have seen her on Simply Quilts and love her patterns!!

pieced blocks - some applique - seasonal favorites - some easy, some not - step-by-step instructions - great quality book

5 out of 5 stars I love Thimbleberries.......2007-03-03

Really enjoy the patterns and instructions from Lynette Jennings. I find her books easy to follow. But you can tell it is an older book because I know in the later books she gives ways of making patterns easier (less piecing, eg star pattern). But I thoroughly enjoy her books.

5 out of 5 stars Loved it!.......2006-11-07

Lynette produced another wonderful book. I loved the patterns as well as the graphics. Her instructions are easy to follow and the end-product just gorgeous. Her color pattern fits any decor and help make any house a home.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource and very inspirational!.......2002-05-08

I just received this book yesterday and have already selected and begun work on two different quilts. The instructions, diagrams, pictures, patterns, colors are all wonderful! This will be one of my top books in my collection. Back to quilting!

5 out of 5 stars Country But Not Too Cute.......2000-08-03

I love to buy quilt books, perhaps it's an addiction. This is one of the few books I will read over, again and again. There is a real warmth to her colors and her quilts, without being too cute (like Debbie Mum). I could even make one of these quilts for my 18 year old son without complaints. Even if you don't quilt, I think you would enjoy seeing how she incorporates her quilts into her decor. If you do quilt, even better! Your only dilemma will be in trying to decide which quilt to make first.

Book Description

Sex and the City meets Martha Stewart in this savvy and eclectic interior-design manifesto for high-flying chicks with nesting fantasies from the authors of the bestselling Swell: A Girl's Guide to the Good Life.

In their first breakthrough style manual, fashion designer Cynthia Rowley and former New York Times Sunday Styles editor Ilene Rosenzweig showed girls-on-the-go how to navigate the world with a little swagger and a lot of grace. Now they're taking the Swell aesthetic home with this inspiring guide to creating the ultimate dream pad. With more of the friendly tone and wry wit that lit up their first book, they introduce the idea of haute décor: How to make dressing up your home as exciting and accessible as buying a new wardrobe: Making it sexy. Trying new looks. Breaking rules. Mixing retro with modern. Changing with the seasons and your moods.

Offering a blueprint for the entire creative process, the two best friends and coauthors take you from inspiration to practical execution. Tour the swell playhouse room by room and see how design daydreams inspired by movies, a Palm Springs vacation, a painting, a favorite dress, or your own personal nostalgia (for the Brady Bunch living room) can become reality.

Full of the authors' own anecdotes and wisdom from a pantheon of swell style heroes, Home Swell Home has household hints, tips, and bits of history on everything you wish you'd known but never would have thought to ask. Some of the tour highlights ahead:

The sixty-minute makeover for when
romantic company's coming

A recipe for a four-star dining room
(hint: logo-print slip covers)

Furniture EMS to resuscitate
doomed hand-me-downs

Turning the underused kitchen
into a day spa

Wiring "moonlight" into your trees

Create the ultimate sitcom screening room

Three new uses for your coffee table

"Paint" the walls with colored
fluorescent lights

Get real paint out of your hair!

Swinging from uptown decadence to downtown chic, Home Swell Home demystifies design, sweeps away snobbery, and shows how any house or apartment can be a place for high-style adventures. So come on in!

1 out of 5 stars A silly Book.......2007-03-21

A silly book. Thought it would really have something to do with design of a certain kind - not silly and useless advise. Definitely should be in the category of "13 or under" - a waste of money!

4 out of 5 stars Gee, I really liked it........2006-02-10

I don't get the animosity everyone expresses in these reviews -- come on, like you didn't know Cynthia Rowley wrote this? It's tongue in cheek. It's supposed to affect the way you approach things -- not be taken literally. Alter your outlook a little. Tracy Porter threw a party in her farm's silo -- I'll bet all of you just loved that to bits. But which ones of you are going to DO it? Sheesh. I really got a kick out of this book. Don't take it so seriously.

1 out of 5 stars SUPER!.......2004-06-16

I NEVER READ THIS WHOLE BOOK CAUSE IT WAS SOO BAD! DO NOT BUY IT, PLEEAASSEE DON'T, IT'S JUST A WASTE OF MONEY!

1 out of 5 stars Is this for real???.......2004-03-12

This book was a disappointment. There is a small handful of good ideas (ie. using frayed denim as a bedskirt, paintng one wall a bright color and the rest of the walls white, hanging hooks on the bedroom wall to hang your outfit for the next day, etc.). However, the remaining totally absurd ideas, the constant suggestions of having a bar/minibar throughout various rooms of the house, the abuse to books (nevermind perhaps reading the books and enrichening oneself), and the flippant suggestions to just have your carpenter come over and do the work made me think the authors are just a bunch of arrogant mindless rich witches most likely on drugs. Not everybody can afford to own a place or hire a carpenter/contractor, especially during these times. The real creativity lies in making something wonderful with little resources. I also did not appreciate the broad generalizations they make and hold as truth, such as stating it is a known fact that people who can cook cannot make a good cup of coffee. Ehhh? I don't think so. This was the most irritating book to read, and I had to force myself to read it through to the end. I really felt like burning it when I finished reading. And I consider myself pretty open-minded.... It's amazing how much crap gets allowed to be published.

1 out of 5 stars Waste of time.......2003-11-01

This book has dumb dialogue and so few pictures it's a shame to call it a design oriented book. The swell line is adorable and I believed this book to be something that would play off of that. It did not. It had absurd ideas, bland drawing, boring writing, stupid stories and little reference to anything related to interior design or the swell line. DISAPPOINTING. Don't waste any money or time on this book.

With stylish fabric choices and a tasteful approach, this handsome--albeit slender--guide avoids the overly precious look that tends to invade others of its type. Projects include table elements (napkins, place mats, basket liners), decor accessories (picture frames, lampshades, cushions, chair covers), and bath items (appliqued towels, shower curtains, vanity coverings). Also offered are explanations for making lace flourishes, fabric bows, and rosettes.

The projects in this book are wonderful for beginner crafters, or experienced crafters looking for inspiration to make some gorgeous hair accessories. A variety of techniques are used, including:Using polymer clay Setting and gluing rhinestonesSimple beading techniques Embroidering with beadsUsing feathers and ribbons Painting techniquesCutting and using metal sheet Projects include hair clips (barrettes) & combs, headbands, and slides. What makes this book truly a stand-out in the world of crafting books is the fine photography (beautiful color photographs on almost every page), the excellent step-by-step instructions, the wide variety of designs, and the fact that many of the projects can be made with items you already own. Other items can be easily found at your local craft store. The projects could be completed by older children with adult supervision, or as joint parent-child projects. Such fun!I've used many craft books, and this is one of the very best.

    Book Description

Rosenthal, Excellence for All Times provides readers and collectors with a detailed look at the history and works of this internationally recognized company, accompanied by a synopsis of the evolution of Modernism as it took root in Europe and America. Rosenthal's unique position in the design world is detailed through over 450 wonderful photographs, many acquired from Rosenthal's own archives. The company's constant devotion to excellence of product and perfection of design is reflected in the extraordinary examples of porcelain dinnerware, cutlery, glassware, early and late accessories, figurines, and limited edition art found throughout the book. Detailed biographical material of the artists who design for Rosenthal and the distinguished jurors who oversee all artistic elements adds to the understanding of both Rosenthal and of Modernism and acquaints readers with the styles unique to these individual artists. This important book introduces collectors to a richness of work not recorded elsewhere, a siren call to Modernists who would search for the best of our times.

1 out of 5 stars Too much for too little!.......2001-07-19

München, 19.07.2001 Yesterday I had the fortune to see one copy in a Rosenthal shop in Munich, so I could avoid the mistake to buy one. Searching a dancer figurine of the 1930' you found only a - bad - picture, no description, no words about the artist who made it, nothing.... The book is too expensive for being just a collection of - many - bad pictures without historical comments.

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing & expensive book.......2000-07-21

This book just scratched the surface and I was extremely disappointed in the contents. Very little information about the many china shapes and patterns. Nothing about the beautiful bird figurines that Rosenthal is noted for. Lots of pretty pictures but not enough useful content.

5 out of 5 stars Rosenthal: Excellence for All Times.......2000-04-29

Loved it. It was easy to read and understand. The photographs are beautiful. I can't recommend this book more for the collector rather you are just beginning or an expert. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, definitive reference work for Rosenthal!.......2000-02-06

Kerr's book on Rosenthal is an absolute must-have for those whocollect and/or buy and sell Rosenthal. It is jammed full of deliciouspictures showing numerous items in all the categories Rosenthal makes. She includes a pricing guide which is reasonably accurate, even with the advent of online auctions. Don't pass this marvelous book by, it's well worth the price!

      Book Description

Following the success of Xtreme Houses, this new book steps inside today's coolest dwelling spaces to see how advances in technology and architectural creativity are transforming not just where we live but how we live.

Xtreme Houses shows how architects, artists, collectives, and individuals push the envelope of what's innovative, eco-friendly, and economical for today's residences. What's next? Xtreme Interiors, and it's every bit as design-savvy and provocative as its predecessor.

Houses that bring the outdoors in. Walls that roll, zip, and bend. "Smart" wallpaper. Portable kitchen/bathroom combinations. "Calming" closets and programmable, safe rooms. Each of these concepts and more are examined in the same inventive and eye-popping format that made Xtreme Houses such a visual treat. This selection of forty actual and imagined interiors shows how the most creative designers, individuals and collectives in the world are reimagining our living rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. The authors study the impact of computers and sensor technologies; investigate accessories borrowed from industrial and public spaces; rethink assumptions about a house's footprint; and trace design shifts from rational to radical, square to open, box to blob. The result is a revolutionary "lifestyle" guide that will practically jump into the hands of anyone wondering what's next in the world of interior design.

      Book Description

With magnificent photographs by the bestselling photographer Joshua Greene, Almost Antiques will build on the success of Penguin Studio's classic Antiques for the Table. It opens up to collectors a new frontier--the fine china, glass, and silver of 1890 to 1940, easy to find and still affordable--in an exciting overview of four coexisting design movements: Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Beaux Arts, and Art Deco. This is the first tableware book to mix and match these increasingly popular styles for tabletops, which are unerringly fresh and original. The period homes and haunts of the rich and stylish, from Hollywood's imagemakers to Detroit's barons of industry, create au courant backdrops for the settings: readers are invited to sit at the captain's table aboard the Queen Mary, mix a cocktail in Edsel Ford's moderne bar, join Frank Lloyd Wright for dinner, and toast the New Year at Mabel Dodge Wilson's mansion. Complete with a resource guide and directory of sites, Almost Antiques is both a practical guide and a gorgeous gift for seasoned and novice collectors and entertainers alike.

Beginning collectors will have an easy time with this practical guide, but those with more experience will find it no less valuable. In Fifty Years of Collectible Glass 1920-1970, Tom and Neila Bredehoft focus their expertise on all kinds of stemware, decorations, and accessories. The first two sections are divided by pattern type--separate categories are devoted to knops, roses, birds, and wheat, for a total of 45 different segments. In the accessories department, you'll find coverage of items from candy jars to console sets separated by type, rather than pattern. Newcomers to glass should be sure to check out the helpful descriptions and line drawings of stemware pieces in the first few pages. Since most of us don't intuitively grasp the difference between a sherbet and a cocktail glass, or know the exact shape of a touraine, the Bredehofts have thoughtfully provided clear and concise definitions that make an excellent introduction or refresher course. The eight bright and glossy pages in the center of the book are a visual treat, showcasing items from many major manufacturers, including Heisey, Duncan and Miller, and U.S. Glass.

Small identification photos are plentiful, and the occasional illustration or old advertisement adds a nice bit of variety. Even in black and white, the pictures of various patterns come through cleanly--only a very few are fuzzy enough that a magnifier may be needed to clear things up. --Jill Lightner

3 out of 5 stars Not Enough Color.......2001-06-28

I purchased volume II of this publication and there are only 4 pages (front & back) in color. Many of the black & white photos are like looking at bad Xerox copies. I think I'll find it very hard to identify patterns from many of these small photos. Otherwise, well-laid out and organized.

4 out of 5 stars Volume II of the Popular Guide to Glass Collecting.......2000-06-08

This interesting new 282 page softbound volume's major topics include: Stemware, Decorations and Decorative Accessories. It features more than 800 nice black and white photos (and some in full color), and year 2,000 values. You'll find animals, knops, nudes, sculptured and twist stemware, baskets, birds, flowers, and wheat decorations, and candlesticks, candy jars, figurines, vases, smoking items and much more pictured, described and priced. A complete index permits easy location of the items. There's plenty of informative text about each topic. Also included are many illustrations of original catalog pages. Collectors are sure to use this book often.

What a wonderful surprise I found in my mailbox today! Volume II is another super book by the Bredehofts. Stemware and decorative accessories galore! Good, clear photos; great old catalog and sales literature; and exceptional descriptions for the novice collector. I really liked the arrangement, by shapes and patterns, rather than by pattern alone, or color or by manufacturer. Much easier for attempts to identify that unknown piece. And I really appreciated the simple definitions of the parts of stemware. This book will be well-used; a super addition to my reference library.
