1 out of 5 stars WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?.......2007-03-28

ALL OF US SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS PURE UNADULTERATED BS. I GUESS I EXPECTED AS MUCH BUT MY CURIOSITY GOT THE BETTER OF ME. AFTER ALL DON'T FORGET SHE IS A CHIROQUAKER!

1 out of 5 stars Total garbage.......2007-01-10

If you want to read the most offensive B.S on print...buy this book.
I wish I could give it 0 stars.

1 out of 5 stars A joke.......2006-12-08

The author, who clearly has what is considered "benign MS," thinks she has cured her MS through her lifestyle. Well, I hate to tell you this, "Doctor," but there is no cure for MS. I know you think that people who have progressive MS and are in wheelchairs are choosing to live that way by not adopting your methods. But you are so, so wrong. To the person considering buying this book, think about this: IF THE METHODS IN THIS BOOK WERE VALID AND WORKED, NO ONE WOULD SUFFER FROM MS, because everyone's doctor would have them on this plan. Save your money.

1 out of 5 stars Just an ego trip...nowhere near useful for real MS'ers.......2006-09-09

This book should be approached with caution. If you can get past the "flaunt" of Dr. Pepe's fabulous life and the fact that she would dare to show off how much better she is doing in front of other MS sufferers, some that are in wheelchairs and probably wish they too could twirl on their high heels, then perhaps you should remember that this is one woman's opinion. Her advice will not cure you. It is unbelievable that someone would tout the old wives' tales (bee vemon and dental fillings) as part of a path to successfully overcoming the symptoms of MS. If there were any significance to either of these woudn't we know it? After all, people have been trying them for decades now.

The use of CAM (complimentary and alternative) therapies can be beneficial. A very good neurologist advised me that a combination of proper exercise, yoga, good nutrition, a daily multi-vitamin and trying to remain generally positive was best. I have to say he was right. After six years of constant MS problems and attacks, I adopted a healthier lifestyle, including regular exercise, and have been relapse free for almost four years. (If you are wondering, I do take one of the ABCR drugs as well.)

A better alternative to buying this book would be to get Nancy Davis' book. It is titled, "Lean on Me: Ten powerful steps to taking back your life after your diagnosis". It is more realistic and more helful to the average person that this book.

5 out of 5 stars Hope-Trust-Healing, Yes it's true........2006-03-15

Celeste has given humanity an incredible gift with the writing of this amazing book. This book is a wonderful, informative how-to, step-by-step plan for reversing Multiple Sclerosis. This she has done by her own painstaking research and knowledge as a Naturopath and Chiropractor and because she reversed this disease for HERSELF. If she weren't all the way across the country, I would rush to meet her and see her as a patient and give her a big hug. But even though I still plan to meet her someday, I am first following her program so when I feel better it will be that much more fun!

Her book gives you the truth - with what worked for her own healing and provides clear concise instructions for optimum results. She makes it so easy to follow. But more than a how-to book, it's beautifully written. So I recommend it for MS sufferers, their families and anyone wishing to better understand autoimmune disease.

The only warning I would have is that Celeste's method for reversing MS is not for the timid or those who are "not ready" to heal. It's for those who've had no success with the typically prescribed expensive orthodox allopathic methods and who want natural protocols to heal. And for those newly diagnosed; consider this a blessing. Also, for those who are too tired to pretend any longer; finally there is real potential to heal and no more band-aides.

Book Description

The first edition of this authoritative book quickly became the single source for accurate and unbiased information on complementary and alternative medicine approaches for the management of MS symptoms. The second edition, completely updated throughout, reflects advances in the field since the book’s initial publication in 2001. Therapies are organized alphabetically so that readers can easily pinpoint a specific treatment and learn about its origins, merits, and possible uses in MS. In-depth discussions cover Naltrexone, acupuncture, biofeedback, chiropractic medicine, cooling therapy, yoga, diets, the use of supplements, herbs, vitamins, and minerals, and many other topics. This invaluable guide alerts MS patients and their families to new options for relief when conventional therapies are limited; directs them to therapies that are effective, low-risk, and inexpensive; and helps them recognize those that are ineffective, dangerous, and costly.

This updated book is great for someone with MS or even if you are just interested in CAM. He explains the different methods well even if I don't always agree with everything he says.

5 out of 5 stars Well-researched information.......2007-02-05

People diagnosed with an incurable disease are too-often targets of terribly unscrupulous or questionable methods of helping or curing them. When conventional medicine cannot cure us it is, to some degree, understandable. Dr. Bowling has put together a well-researched book that briefly discusses CAMs and various therapies, including yoga, tai chi, dietary supplements, vitamins and so forth. Each is briefly described, treatment method discussed, any known scientific research is summarized, side effects noted, practical information listed, and a conclusion and additional reading sources detailed. Dr. Bowling does note that some therapies, while not proven to help those with MS, may seem to help because of the "placebo effect." If it causes no harm, why not try it? However, some of these therapies can be detrimental to those with MS and it is wise to know what those are. This is a book for those who want objective and documented information. Some will claim it is biased against CAMs or undocumented therapies, but I did not find that to be the case. I found it very helpful.

Book Description

There is a relatively high use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), especially dietary supplements, among people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Health professionals with CAM information can improve the quality of patient care by guiding patients away from possibly harmful therapies and, if appropriate, towards low-risk, possibly effective therapies.

Dietary Supplements and Multiple Sclerosis is meant to be referred to when people with MS ask a question about a particular dietary supplement. Supplements are arranged in alphabetical order under the most commonly used name. In addition, the index contains a listing of these common names as well as less common names that may be encountered. The main information about the supplements is written in a concise summary form that usually discusses only the MS relevance of the supplement.

The supplements selected for inclusion are those with specific MS relevance, such as those that are known to be used by people with MS, have claimed efficacy for slowing disease progression or relieving MS symptoms, interact with drugs commonly used to treat MS, and potentially worsen MS or its symptoms. Also, supplements are reviewed that are popular in the general population or are known to have serious adverse effects.

1 out of 5 stars Bad intention & Questionable Credibility .......2005-09-29

Dear MS-er:
If you expect this book to present a "Complementary and Alternative Medicine Program" that can help you with your disease (As could be implied by the authers' profissional field), then you are mistaken. If you are looking for "Dietry Supplements" (As could be implied by the title of this book) then look else where.

If you need to read such silly claims like"Excessive Vitamin E can increase risk of bleeding" ( may I ask if this has been clincially proven? huh), then buy this book and enjoy.

This book makes me wonder, if it was written with the intention to help MS suffes or was intended to favor beta-Interferon manufacturers over alternative Medicin?

False claims in the book makes the authers' credibility questionalble.

A POSITIVE, yet challenging, approach in handling the subject would be listing those supplements that can benifit MS suffers instead of a list to warn about.

Logically, a satement like "No clinical proof that X supplement have any impact on MS" - does NOT imply that X spplement has NO impact on MS but rather it means that NO clinical trials were conducted to prove its effectiveness.

Surprisingly enough, TWO of the most exciting herbs, backed up with clinical experiemens - proven to positively impact MS (Turmeric -resommended by Dr. Weil- , Polypodium Leucontomos ).

More funny thing about this book is that it considers "Turmeric" which is an Indian food spices to be equivelant to "GOLDENSEAL"!!!!! and warns against its sedative impact!!! by the way, it doesnt mention Polypodium!!!

If I would comment on all rubbish claims in this book, I could endup with another book of its size or even more!

Take Care

WOW! I now no longer feel like I'm fumbling around in the dark about dietary suppplements and MS! Dr. Bowling thoroughly and objectively examines supplements and their effects on MS! How empowering it is to know that certain supplements have the side effect of nausea, which is my most frequent and bothersome MS sypmtom and the one thing I simply can't cope with.

No more Evening Primrose Oil for me! I've replaced it with Flaxseed Oil, which does basically the same thing, but unlike Evening Primrose Oil does not have nausea as a side effect!

I would gladly trade more physical disability if I just could find a way to do something about the nausea!

And even more important information, supplements that stimulate the immune system. Also of importance is the information on which supplements can cause liver damage, particularly important for those of us who are on one of the interferons!

With Dr. Bowling's excellent book in hand I am adding herbal supplements to my regimin, and I do notice a measurable improvement in my overall condition!

However, as all us MS'rs know, our lovely little disease has a tendency to go through periods when it kicks our butts less than at other times, and with that knowledge, I'll do an update on this review towards the end of this year.

Obviously, highly reccomended to anyone with MS! I'd pretty much put this in the category of a must-read book for my Sisters and Brothers with MS.

Doesn't having MS absolutely STINK?????

10/19/05 As promised, I'm updating this review. Well, so far the improvement is continuing. Actually, I think it's a combination of several different things. I feel that the fact that I workout 4 to 6 times a week is also very beneficial! So this book still rates a 5+ with me!

Book Description

This is a single source for accurate and unbiased information on the many complementary and alternative medicines that can help manage some MS symptoms and promote general health. Readers will be able to: * find unconventional options for therapy; * learn of potentially dangerous interactions between alternative therapies and medical treatments; * identify therapies that are effective, low risk, and inexpensive; * recognize ineffective, dangerous, or costly alternative therapies. A section on Integrating Conventional and Unconventional Medicine links specific symptoms to potentially useful alternative therapies: If readers have, for example, spasticity or bladder problems, they can easily identify potentially useful alternative strategies. The book includes a glossary of popular supplements commonly used in MS care. Many general books deal with the general topic of alternative and complementary therapies, but most contain serious errors about their use in people with MS, and none specifically addresses the dangerous interactions that can occur between some therapies and the disease.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Misleading title - it's a pharmaphilic decoy.......2006-04-01

I was very disappointed. This book is basically an attack on alternative therapies through the lens of self serving conventional medicine politics rather than attempting to find any merit and mechanism of different alternative modalities. For instance the coverage of vitamins and supplements were ridiculously weak and even out of date with modern research recommendations from conventional medical schools e.g. the sunshine vitamin D link to MS in particular and the much higher emerging vitamin D RDAs in general. The vitamin coverage completely failed to examine the true supplement alternatives like the inexpensive, riveting megadose protocols and clinical results of Duke educated Dr Fred R Klenner and, independently, Canadian Dr. H.T.R. Mount. Likewise I found the discussion of enzymes, nutrition, and digestion lame. These are time critical propositions for the consideration of those deteriorating with a conventional sentence of central neuritis and other neuropathies.

4 out of 5 stars Very informative.......2005-09-30

As a person living with MS there were some things in this book that even I didn't know. Its good to have all the correct information from a medical professional. I carry this book with me all the time and refer to it whenever someone tells me, I should do this or that for my MS. We need lots more books like this.

Multiple Sclerosis is a system that impacts the immune system
and the nervous system. There is a hereditary disposition to
the disease. The main damage involves lesions of the brain and
spinal cord. The disease may relapse and remit during various
phases. The drug Betaseron may be employed for MS to decrease
relapses in both length and severity. Alternative medicinal
protocols may be employed i.e. acupuncture, exercise,
biofeedback, chiropractic and massage therapy. Acupuncture has minor risks in the thoracic region for the lung and heart.
Propolis has been found to stimulate and suppress immune function.

A new area called Psychoneuroimmunology has developed which
impacts both the nervous system and the immune system.
Chelation therapy removes plaque from the blood vessels.
Chiropractic has been known to help MS sufferers because low
back pain is reduced with gentle manipulation.

Dental amalgum implications may be present in arthritis, lupus,
Parkinson's and brain tumor. Decreases in dietary fat may assist
MS sufferers. Gamma Linoleic Acid supresses excess immune
system activity. Enzyme therapy improves both digestion and
the breakdown of complex food groups. i.e. protein
Certain exercises i.e. horseback riding improves the pelvis.
This book is an excellent supplementary reference for MS
sufferers. It will complement any formal program of
pharmaceutical medicines in place.

Definition: A linoleic acid is a liquid unsaturated fatty acid

After reading some of the reviews I hestitated on buying this. I had just been diagnosed with MS. I started taking the shots (and still am) but wanted to find other things that I could do. From the reviews I thought this would be an alternative medicine bashing book but its not. It states the facts as they are and shows pros and cons, leave a lot for the reader to consider. I found this to be a well-rounded book that had good info.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent starting point.......2002-10-11

To explore alternative medicine is to take a journey into aspects of healing that are outside of patentable pharmacology. The journey is easier with a map, but the map is only a starting point. When considering alternative medicine, we need to make our own decisions about approaches to health that often have not been studied in the way that patentable drugs have been studied. Even so, the journey should begin by learning what has previously been reported on the subject.

Dr. Bowling's book is a fist-rate description of the terrain of alternative medicine. Unlike other MS-specific books about alternative medicine, his is based on a review of published literature rather than on personal experience, anecdote and fancy.

Part of Dr. Bowling's accomplishment is that he has managed to catalogue a diverse and hard-to-define area. More imortantly, it describes, in succint and easy-to-understand and language, the published research that is available on about 40 different areas of alternative medicine.

Don't buy the book thinking there is a cure for MS to be found in its pages. On the other hand, if you are looking for a starting point for understanding alternative medicine, then this book is a useful resource.

1 out of 5 stars Getting Tired of the "I Recovered From MS" books.......2001-08-02

To be clear, I didn't read Dr. Delany's book. I have read several other books in the same genre, and I just wanted to set the record straight: MANY MANY people recover from their first and second and third bouts w/ MS and lead normal lives for 10 or 15 years afterwards. MS is a disease that is KNOWN for its relapsing/remitting pattern. Anyone who tells you that they had MS and then recovered from it by using some treatment are misguided. Chances are EXCELLENT that they would have recovered anyway. My first attack left me paralyzed and bedridden for 14 months. Then, after an aggressive application of steroids, I quickly recovered and was symptom-free for almost 7 years. But I didn't claim to be cured, nor did I tout steroids as a miracle cure for MS. Because I got worse again. And so will Dr. Delany.

5 out of 5 stars Help for Multiple Sclerosis: The Treatment That Works.......2000-03-06

A success story is always encouraging, especially if it helps us to break out of the commonly held belief that certain illnesses have, as yet, no cure. In The Edgar Cayce Way of Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis: Vibratory Medicine, Dr. Dudley Delany, a now retired chiropractor, massage therapist, and registered nurse, challenges the medical viewpoint of multiple sclerosis as an incurable disease. Dr. Delany's inspiring account of how he successfully reversed his own symptoms of MS with therapies recommended in the Cayce readings is indeed a fountain of hope for the estimated 2 1/2 million people worldwide who suffer from this often debilitating condition.

In the Cayce readings, the usual cause of MS is seen as a deficiency of gold in the body related to a failure of the digestive system to properly assimilate that mineral from dietary sources. The holistic approach recommended by Edgar Cayce for the treatment of MS includes diet, spinal manipulation, massage, disciplines for spiritual attunement, and, in particular, a device known as the Wet Cell Battery, designed to introduce into the ailing system the vibratory energy of gold. The body responds to vibratory gold by increasing its assimilation of that element.

Dr. Delany provides a detailed description of the construction, operation, and care of the Wet Cell Battery and a related device, the Radial Appliance. One chapter outlines the relative merits of each device, enabling the reader to make an informed choice as to which of the two instruments might be more appropriate for his or her specific condition. Clear illustrations are used to explain both the function of these appliances and the manner in which they are applied to the body in a treatment session.

A special section on diet addresses the nutritional guidelines to be followed in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The widespread occurrence of celiac disease (gluten intolerance) and other food sensitivities among MS patients is also discussed. Two chapters dedicated to answering the most commonly asked questions provide a wealth of specific information, compiled from the author's unique perspective as both a health professional and an MS patient who has personally experienced the regenerative powers of vibratory medicine.

Now in its fifth edition, Dr. Delany's well-written book revolutionizes our understanding of multiple sclerosis and encourages those who are afflicted, or who have loved ones with this condition, to apply, as Dr. C. Norman Shealy says in the foreword, "the very simple and safe treatments Cayce proposed well over 50 years ago."

      5 out of 5 stars Dudley Delaney's book -.......2000-03-01

I first became familiar with the writings of Edgar Cayce, about 30 years ago, after reading Gina Cerminera's book, "Many Mansions."

Her book chronicled Cayce's life and his remarkable ability to offer cures to countless people across the nation who were suffering from diseases, many of which had not yet even been diagnosed.

Given he had only a minimal education and was capable of only giving readings for individuals while he was asleep, I was intrigued by this "sleeping prophet."

Cerminera's book was one of the few I was simply unable to set down. Cayce did thousands of physical readings and every one of them benefited an individual! His recommendations were impeccable.

Dr. Delaney's book traces Cayce's suggestions for individuals with multiple sclerosis. I am not surprised Dudley's symptoms are in remission.

I have read his book and recommend it to anyone wanting to stand in the possibility that Cayce was a rare individual who was able to tap into answers for hundreds of thousands of people.

      1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-09-05

Based on the blurb written for this book, I was expecting an actual manual w/ illustrations / diagrams / techniques for working on patients & loved ones dealing w/ MS. I was disappointed to find this "book" (closer in size to a leaflet) did little else than serve as a layman's guide to Multiple Sclerosis, it's symptoms, types, etc. At no point does the text deliver on the title's implied content. My advice: Save the $20 - If your mission is to find out more about MS, you and your wallet are better served by taking advantage of the myriad free info sources online that explain the details of this disease.
