The Power of the Praying Parent is Excellent.......2007-10-11
This book is so uplifting and awesome. The prayers, stories and scriptures provided are so useful and helpful as we parents pray for the welfare of our children.
The power of a praying parent.......2007-09-19
Good resource for prayers. I thought I was ordering the book not a prayer supplement but was pleasantly surprised at the prayers. They are very appropriate for raising children. There is space after each themed prayer for you to enter your prayers for your children.
The Power of a Praying Parent.......2007-08-23
Just what I wanted and needed. Fabulous. These prayers touch my deepest hearts desires for my children. I also use them for my husband and I. Actually they are prayers that can be applied for anyone including my enemies.

A Book With A Difference.......2007-03-09
The Power Of A Praying parent is a phenominal book. Its easy lay out makes it ready for reading. The subject matter for praying is very timely and speaks to the many problems and issues that confronts us as parents today. The author Stormie Omartian seeks to keep parents in constant prayer for their children, by outlining specific prayers for specific situtions. Each topic is personialised and is designed to meet each reader at that particular level of their prayer life. My recent purchase was as a result of other parents having a glympse of the book's content and wanted to have the opportunity to really experience the innermost prayers for which it holds. This book of Prayers is far reaching and its content surpasses ones expectations of praying from a "Book"'
Book Description
Every parent would happily give up ever scolding, punishing or threatening if she only knew how to ensure that her toddler/child/teen would thrive and act responsibly without such painful measures. Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves is the answer to this universal wish. It is not about gentle ways to control a child, but about a way of being and of understanding a child so she/he can be the best of herself, not because she fears you, but because she wants to, of her own free will.
"Aldort's book should be on the must read list of all Moms and Dads. This book could carry a subtitle: "Saving the Emotional Lives of Our Children and The Future of Humanity.""
- James Prescott, Ph.D. Institute of Humanistic Science
"Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves operates on the radical premise that neither child nor parent must dominate; it is for those who want to give up scolding, threatening and punishing. Her SALVE "formula" alone is worth the price of the book." - Peggy O'Mara Editor and Publisher of Mothering
"Every once in awhile, a writer comes along who is comfortable speaking the truth, no matter how much it might challenge us or make us uncomfortable. Naomi Aldort is one of those people. In Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves, Naomi Aldort takes the struggle out of parenting and replaces controlling and shaping style of parenting with one that values, trusts and nurtures children's innate abilities and autonomy."
- Wendy Priesnitz Editor of Life Learning magazine, author of School Free and Challenging Assumptions in Education
"In this stunning insight into human nature, Naomi Aldort opens a window into harmonious family living. This book should to be widely read and not just by parents but by every being who strives for a more peaceful world."
- Veronika Robinson, Editor of The Mother magazine, UK
Customer Reviews:
I'm buying it for every parent I know.......2007-09-10
I recently read "Raising our Children, Raising Ourselves"
and I have to say that it is an amazing book and one that has created a
fundamental shift in how I approach my relationship with my children. I
have always been an advocate for gentle and respectful parenting, but this
book has offered me "mental" tools to examine my own internal world and
reactions to my children, and frankly, my spouse. I've passed it along to
several friends and they feel the same.
Like any other good parenting book..........2007-08-31
...you take what is reasonable for you and your family and discard the stuff that is not. It flows along the lines of attachment parenting, Easy to Love; Difficult to Discipline type of thinking. I found many parts useful and enlightening AND there were parts where I found myself thinking "do what??" So, as with everything else; use it as a guideline, not a bible.
If I recommended only one parenting book...........2007-04-13
This book is wonderful! Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I want to recommend this to every parent I know, and some who aren't.
It is validating not only what I've been doing as a parent, but also what I secretly want to be doing, but am not sure about. I also struggle at times with compromising my commitment to my child to avoid losing approval from my parents. I feel totally clear now about not making that trade-off ever again.
And it's validating so, so many experiences and feelings I had as a child... Helping me have huge clarity around what I need for my healing process as an adult (just reading has felt immensely healing), and clarity around how to better respect and honor my husband in our marriage
This is EXACTLY the information I was looking for.
Thank you so much, Naomi Aldort
Excellent Book.......2007-03-08
Very good book with focus on communication and relationship which nurturing child personality and dignity. Almost al "theoretical" explanations are provided with some examples. The underlined logic present in explanations are so acceptable.
I'm indeed interested in Montessori education. On some Montessori forum recommended this book. It's really very, very god book!
Our world needs this book - QUICK!.......2007-03-06
I agree with most of the 5-star reviews here. This is the best parenting book I've found - a great leap from the many modern parenting books out there. In fact, I'd say it is the only parenting book you will ever need! Like another reviewer, I am ordering many copies and actively distributing to all the parents I know.
Finally, a book that spells out with crystal clarity that yes, you can respect and trust your children fully, and love them unconditionally, without any "ifs" and "buts".
Raising Our Children, Raising Ourselves provides the tools for being always kind and loving in our day-to-day interactions with our children, and illustrates the guidance via eloquent real-life examples. These tools are easy to remember and put to practice, and they actually work. This book has transformed my relationship with my 10-month old, giving me permission to fully love her the way I always felt - without holding back ANYTHING! Quite a liberating shift. The guidance carries all the way from infancy through the teen years, and I am so grateful that I stumbled upon it while she is still little!
The transformative effect of the book goes way beyond parenting, as both the title, and the subtitle proposed by James Prescott on the cover ('Saving the emotional lives of our children and the future of humanity'), suggest. It lays out a readily available path to self-healing and self-realization through our relationship with our children (as well as with other people): simply by starting to examine how we respond to others a little more closely. Imho, this is one of the most important books ever written, period.
I have a wish. I grew up in Europe (France) and, really, I CANNOT WAIT to see the book available there as well, in other languages, and start infusing its wisdom and compassion overseas. Any publisher out there interested in making a difference? Call Naomi today, you'll do yourself and the world a favor. Our world needs this book. QUICK!

Good book - good ideas.......2007-08-28
I wasn't sure if I should get this book. I almost felt like I could write the book on healthy meals for my family. But, the price was right and I am always looking for a new tip. I'm about half way through the book and am really enjoying it. The advice is good and realistic. And, yes, I have learned a few new tips.

Directions for a Healthy Weight Family.......2006-05-22
I wasn't really sure what I was getting when I ordered this book. The book is based on a new program being piloted now by Weight Watchers. The program, in limited areas now teaches parents on how to encourage a "Healthy Weight" home. What surprised me is how different this program is from the one designed by Weight Watchers for adults as part of their nationally available program. For one, they strongly discourage parents from placing all but the most obese of children on a diet and then only with the close supervision of a physician.
The book trains parents on the "5 Simple Rules."
1. Focus on wholesom, nutritious foods.
2. Include treats.
3. Aim to keep nonhomework screen time at two hours (or less) per day.
4. Try to be active an hour per day.
5. The Rules apply to everyone in the home.
While that should tell you all you need to know about the program there is so much more. My daughter 4, does not currently have a weight issue, however as an over obese person since childhood I watch her closely to attempt to prevent her from having the same weight issues I have. I was shocked to learn all of the things I am doing wrong. Everything from what snacks/treats I give her to forcing her to clean her plate, and at least a dozen other things.
One of the things I loved about this book it there was no encouragement to make drastic life altering adjustments to your life. In fact, the book encourages gentler simple steps your family can carry out. It doesn't tell you what order to complete the rules in, but to start with the ones you know you can do. The book offers real life concerns and solutions that even the most out of shape family can take to heart.
The book also discourages you from weighing your children more than when they are at the physician's office or even discussing weight in front of them. If anyone in your house struggles with their weight this book is a must have. I wish it had been available to my parents when I was young, I only hope I can learn enough from it to prevent the same mistakes in my children.
Weight loss for families........2006-03-24
Great book that will give all the rules for keeping a family slim. Don't let your kids and family become what you don't want them to be. Learn to keep yourself and your family fit and trim.

Great Old Fashioned Advice!.......2007-10-02
Call me ignorant and sheltered but I had not heard of John Rosemond until my oldest was 4 1/2 years old. I wish I had had this book when she was going through the terrible twos. Anyway, I think it is the best parenting book out there. I recommend it to all of my friends.
Since reading this book I have become much more strict with my children. The result is that my kids and I enjoy each other so much more. I no longer yell or nag. I am calm and in control. I outline the rules to my children and when they break them there are consequences. Since I consistently follow through with the consequences the rules are rarely broken. There is peace in our house and much fewer tantrums from children and adults alike. Thanks a million Mr. Rosemond!
Just one aside regarding baby care, I think that "Secrets of the Baby Whisperer" by Tracy Hogg is far better and more conprehensive for information regarding the first year of life!
John Rosemond knows of what he teaches........2007-05-31
Read the original Parent Power a dozen years ago to give me a leg up on my two kids now 16 and 19. You have the power! Not for the faint-of-heart or 'helicopter parents'. Bought the new version for my wife to help her become better at mnaging our two new ones age 4 and 6. Second time around and loving it!
If you read and used the book 'On Becoming Baby Wise' this book is for you!
good children.......2007-02-11
I bought this book for one of my children who just had a child...I hope they use it as I think Rosemond is spot on!!! He has such common sense advice and if used you will have responsible and well liked children who will turn into responsible well liked adults!!
To much emphasis on daycare!.......2007-01-12
I agree that children are not the center of the family. I also think that God gave them to us to guide and teach and you cannot do that when they are in daycare!!! I don't agree with Dr. Rosemand on the day care issue, but I did find some helpful tips in this book!
Not so thinly veiled Evangelical Fundamentalism.......2006-10-23
What is so sad for me is that John Rosemond has many excellent interventions for children yet he view's self-esteem as demonic and nefarious. While I can use some of his ideas I warn readers of his narcissistic musing about what he interprets as biblical. A mix of well-grounded advice and psychological immaturity.

Loved it........2005-08-12
Very awesome book! I enjoyed it. Prayer changes things and really works in our lives. I am a full believer in the power of prayer. I use this book to pray for my children.
Terrific - every parent should use this book ... and MAYBE.........2002-03-30
...the world would be a better place! This book gave me the inspiration to start a prayer journal, something I've NEVER done before. I think it's a great idea to write down our prayers, so we can look back and see how they were answered. The answer may not have been what we expected, but the situation worked out better than we had hoped! This book gave me ideas of things to pray about that I had not considered. I guess I always thought praying a simple "keep my child safe" prayer would capture it all, but as the author points out, it's important to pray about specifics! GREAT BOOK . . . now I'm going to try her others.

Kids, parents, and power struggles--the inseparable triad of family life. What if you could avoid Machiavellian peacekeeping maneuverings and instead turn difficult situations with your child into jumping-off points to having a better and more productive relationship? Mary Sheedy Kurcinka's new book gives a concise, practical, and often humorous account of how to achieve this turnaround. Kurcinka doesn't promise miracle cures or overnight success, but by building on Daniel Goleman's groundbreaking work in Emotional Intelligence, she offers creative techniques for using power struggles as pathways to better understanding within any family. Drawing on her clinical experience with numerous real-life families, Kurcinka builds up an image of the parent as an "emotion coach," whose role is to build a strong, connected "team" by understanding the players' strengths and weaknesses and showing by instruction and example how best to play the game. The techniques she outlines are useful for children of any age--in fact, the younger, the better--and are based on firm guidelines and mutual respect. In sections such as "Bringing Down the Intensity," "Enforcing Your Standards," and "Teaching Life's Essential Skills," Kurcinka addresses the causes of power struggles rather than just the symptoms, so that families can reduce the pain of repeated conflict. By the end of the book, any parent should feel confident in applying the principles. --Katherine Ferguson
Book Description
End Those Power Struggles and Begin Connecting with Your Child
Noted family educator Mary Sheedy Kurcinka struck a national chord with her bestselling Raising Your Spirited Child. Now she hits upon another crucial parenting topic: coping with the everyday challenges of disciplining your child, while understanding the issues behind his or her behavior. In Kids, Parents, and Power Struggles, she offers unique approaches to solving the daily, and often draining, power struggles between you and your child. Kurcinka views these conflicts as rich opportunities to teach your child essential life skills, like how to deal with strong emotions and problem solve. With her successful strategies, you'll be able to identify the trigger situations that set off these struggles and get to the root of the emotions and needs of you and your child.
Customer Reviews:
Great book.......2007-08-13
What I liked most about this book is that I felt like you could read one chapter, work on some things then read the next. I don't have time to sit down & read a whole book but a chapter or 2 per week works for me.
It really makes a lot of sense that your children have so many different emotions but don't know how to express them. I read this at the same time as siblings without rivalry and they really complemented each other.
great advice for parents.......2006-11-10
This is a very helpful, practical, easy to use and understand guide for how to see things from a different perspective when it comes to dealing with your children. Eminently and infinitely helpful...highly recommended!
Great book for parents who want some guidance.......2006-08-22
I haven't completely finished this book, but love it. It offers wonderful advice on how to work with and connect with your child vs. fighting with them. The chapter on temperment has been an eye-opener for me. I better understand why my daughter and I often have struggles and now have the ability to create strategies to avoid those struggles. I highly recommend this book. It's hard to find the time to read when you're a busy parent, but make time for this one.
A constant companion.......2006-06-30
This book stays in my backpack -- like diapers and wipes, I never know when I might need it.
Very pleased with book!.......2006-03-03
This book is the type that you don't want to put down once you start reading it. I am learning so much about temperament and personality types, my own and my kids, and learning to understand that each difficult power struggle is an opportunity to TEACH your kids about how they can respond or react to their feelings and to learn about themselves. Since I've started reading this book, I have noticed a significant change in my reaction to them when my kids have a melt down, which is hard to prevent after a long day at school, or my reaction when they make a mess. Instead of yelling I try to express my self and TEACH them. I think this book should be read by every parent, because I know I never learned about temperament when I was growing up, and I have a doctorate. I will tell my husband to read it and also my parents, since they interact with my kids as well. If it's hard to listen to your kids, because they test you all the time (which it was for me), this gives you a new perspective and gives you a purpose in which to approach each power struggle. Enjoy!!!

Book Description
For both the new parent coping with a child's recent diagnosis and one who's an experienced advocate, Children with Autism is a must-have reference. It is the trusted, respected source of information on autism and the other conditions within the spectrum of pervasive developmental disorder (PDD).
Now completely revised and updated, Children with Autism covers a multitude of special concerns, including daily and family life, early intervention, educational programs, legal rights, advocacy, and a look at the years ahead with a chapter on adults with autism. Parents can turn to this new edition for the latest information on current diagnostic criteria, Applied Behavior Analysis, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), autism advocacy via the Internet, and much more.
Another important feature of the book is the group of parent statements found at the end of each chapter. Here the reader gains the perspective and support from many other parents who share their own family's experiences. Other helpful features include a glossary, reading and resource lists, and a delightful collection of photographs of children with autism scattered throughout the book.
Customer Reviews:
A decent guidebook for a parent who knows their child.......2007-08-26
I agree with one of the previous reviews that said this should not be the first book you read when your child is initially diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, once a parent has done some reading and talked to professionals and knows the degree of their child's diagnosis, it is helpful when used as a guide or point of reference. My son has ASD, but he has mild symptoms in most areas, and I know where his weaknesses are. It clearly states in the introduction to this book that it is a GUIDE. Use it as such! Skip the chapters that don't pertain to your child. Refer to the chapters on IEP's only when you feel you need the resources it provides. Some of us have wonderful, supportive relationships with those professionals in charge of our child's IEP, and others don't. That's reality. Not every child with ASD is the same, and not every parent's needs are the same, so be aware of that when purchasing this book and I think you will find it a valuable resource.
Find a Better Book.......2004-05-04
For the record, this is a book with three different introductions, and each chapter is written by a different author. So you'd think it would represent a fairly broad perspective on various topics. Maybe it does. But I just don't care for the perspectives.
One chapter focuses on Autistic Adults, how their parents can plan for their future and help them get jobs and so forth. It refers to living arrangements in the most doom-portending categorizations: inadequate, poor, or too expensive for foolish mortals (quoting annual sticker-prices of $125,000 to $900,000). I don't need a book to put on a smiley face when it relays me depressing information, but the utter absence of decent and affordable living arrangements doesn't seem, well, TRUE.
In the chapter about IEPs and education, the basic tenet seems to be "you're going to have to fight like a ram in mating season to get your child the services they need". More emphasis should be put on constant contact, active communication, and sympathetic cooperation with teachers, principals, service coordinators, etc. And granted that not all parents are born lawyers and/or understand semantic distinctions, why dwell on (with extended quotations) the unfortunate few who don't understand that a right to an "appropriate" education does not guarantee "the best that money can buy"? Why provide yet another forum for people who think school districts exist to serve their child and their child alone?
The discipline chapter, meanwhile, presents the same discipline solutions ANY childhood discipline book would recommend. "Catch them being good", "reward good behavior", and "make instructions clear and simple" is fine advice, but people who read this book are looking for real applications to people with autism, not the kind of universal, sound recommendations you could get from any mom at the park.
The book irks in its failure to deliver valuable information. There are plenty of good books on the subject of autism, so go read one of them instead. Temple Grandin has written some very worthwhile and intriguing books on the subject, and the several paragraphs she wrote in one of the introductions to this book do not justify reading the whole thing.
An invaluable resource.......2002-04-09
With the second edition of "Children with Autism", Michael Powers has again provided families of children with autism (along with professionals)an invaluable resource for living with, and loving, a child with autism. In straightforward, non-technical language, "Children with Autism" addresses the needs of persons with autism and their families across their lifespan. From diagnosis, to early intervention, to adulthood we are presented with practical information that, in addtion, has a fairly broad research base. I am on my third copy as I keep lending mine out and, for some reason (perhaps the value of the information contained) they never seem to be retained. Highly recommended.
A must read.......2002-04-07
Dr. Powers has been a major contributor to the understanding of autism spectrum disorders for many years. The ORIGINAL book was one of the few available on the subject at the time of publishing, and while it is NOW outdated, it has been replaced by the current edition published in 2000. This edition contains much useful information that parents will not find elsewhere. I was, therefore, somewhat confused that the reviews for the previous edition are still on this website, as they really describe a different book, which is very misleading.
A depressing, horrible book, read only after you've given up.......2001-10-09
Please, do not let this be the first book you read when your child is diagnosed. This book is depressing and includes no information about actually helping your child or dealing with the biological aspects of this disorder. This book assumes you have given up on treating your child's illness and that there are no comorbid disorders associated with the autism diagnosis, which is completely wrong. Keep searching, there is help and much better books.
Book Description
Through his ministry, Champions for Life, Bill Glass teaches the healing power of a father's blessing in cities, congregations, prisons and schools across America. His message is simple: a father's blessing can give a child the inspiration, reassurance and confidence to live life to its fullest potential. Glass defines a blessing as a gentle touch, a loving hug and a powerful verbal message of unconditional love. Bill Glass' father was a devout Christian, a father and a hero to Bill as a boy. Bill credits his phenomenal success in life as a professional football player, founder of the ministry, Champions for Life, and his own role as a successful father to his three children to the blessing his father gave him. Champions for Life is Bill's story in which he shares with readers his own wisdom and his tales from raising his children, his father's inspiring parenting stories and the role a blessing can play in one's life. By retelling his experiences as a father and son, Glass shares the wisdom of Christ and brings it into the homes of every family. Nothing is more rewarding to the giver and the receiver than the amazing, affirming results of a blessing. Glass encourages fathers to reach out to their families, sons and daughters with expressions of love and support. In giving a blessing, we are guided toward our destiny and are able to support our children in living theirs. Key Features Foreword from Billy Graham. Glass' ministry visits and teaches approximately 400,000 people a year. To all of these people, he preaches the importance of a blessing. Champions for Life will serve as a companion to this message. Glass' ministry has approximately 3,500 congregations in their network and these will all be contacted during the publicity and marketing of the book.

Great, Experience-Based Advice from a Prison Missionary and Retired NFL Player!.......2006-03-07
This book points out the extreme importance of having a father bless his children throughout their entire lives.
This may seem to be an alien concept in our secular culture, where too often people reject a father figure and act like fathers are optional. It is too "cool" and "trendy" these days to know single mothers who never married the father of their child, but the reality is that it devastates the self-image of the fatherless child.
Bill points out from experience that at all the prisons he witnesses at, it is always very hard, even impossible, to find an inmate who has a good relationship with their real father--they usually curse their father for not being there for them while they were growing up; which is the breeding ground for criminal activities and gang membership which becomes the surrogate family, and blesses the individual for doing criminal acts, instead.
I am a big fan of professional athletes who preach the Gospel, so I am very happy with this great book from Bill Glass!
Bill Glass is a retired NFL football player from the 1960's, who has been heavily involved with his own prison ministry for decades, Champions for Life.
This book is basically Bill Glass writing about the importance of a Father's Blessing in the life of everybody, not just prisoners--everybody needs that affirmation and encouragement from their father (or father figure)!
Not only is the blessing important, but the curse is also discussed. What parents say negatively to or about their kids has a major effect. Bill discusses his personal, accidentally inflicted curse, when he overheard his mother telling someone that Bill was not good looking at all. No parents are perfect, and his mother never even knew that he overheard that remark, but it haunts Bill over 60 years later, throughout his entire life. What your parents say about you really DOES matter, though, hurt people try to shrug it off.
Bill discusses that, too. If a parent refuses to bless, or has died, then you must forgive the parent and seek the blessing from another father figure.
The blessing must always be unconditional. Bill uses his sports experience to contrast between unconditional blessing versus coaching. Coaches are never satisfied, always push for more, and their blessing is dependent upon performance, because the coaches job is on the line, and so is the athlete's job, if winning is not achieved. Coaching is performance based. Parenting and blessing is unconditional, NOT dependent upon a child's performance or achievements. We have to bless our kids just because they are our kids, NOT because they first had to achieve a goal, like a good report card. Belonging to the family is unconditional, but remaining on a sports team is achievement dependent.
Bill is helped by pro sports writer Terry Pluto, but this is essentially the thoughts of Bill Glass, relating anecdotes from his own life, prisoners he has met, and Bible passages. Terry and Bill have been great friends since 1996, when Terry got Saved, after obseving one of Bill's Prison sessions for a writing assignment.
I like this book because you learn a lot about Bill's own life, his football career, and how Bill's parents raised him in a Christian manner. Bill Glass was a player on the championship Cleveland Browns, one season before the first Super Bowl. If the annual Super Bowls has started one year earlier, Bill would have been a winner of the first Super Bowl.
This book is very personable, not technical or clinical. Reading it is like hanging out with a really great, caring Christian fellow who wants to help people by learning from the mistakes of others. This book is full of common sense advice, which is actually not commonly practiced, these days.
Another good book by a Christian and former NFL player is IN THE TRENCHES by Reggie White, an NFL Football Hall of Famer. There is something about being a huge, macho football player that seems to make these Christian athletes more daring and unashamed to use their sports fame to push the message of the Gospel. I love reading books by these pro athlete Christians.

helpful book!.......2003-11-03
i found this book to be so helpful in dealing with my 8 year old daughter who has been loosely diagnosed with ADD.
This book is a life saver.......1998-08-13
This book has a lot of practical tips and ideas for working with the challenge of ADD/ADHD children of which I have two. There is a section that helps you work with teachers and other people in your childs life. I shared a lot of the information in this book with my children's teachers and even suggested to their principal that he have the teachers read the book as I thought it would give them more insight into how to reach these children. I recommend this book to anyone who has or deals with ADD/ADHD children.
Easy to read & just as easy to implement.......1998-05-05
This is the easy how to/step-by-step book that I have seen. We all love are children but dread making waves in already rough seas. Within days my house was a nicer place to be. I took notes as I read the book and used the notes as guidelines when I implemented a technique. I am purchasing this book for my cousin's son. I would recommend it to anyone working with ADD/ADHD children.

Gives you lots of confidence.......2006-03-04
I've read lots of parenting books, most of them are the same, but this one has more of a relax, calm down, it's going to be ok, kind of tone. As a mother of a two year old boy, I've had my ups and downs. It was a discipline problem what made me buy this book. I was desperate, so as soon as I got it I went to the index (the topics are divided per age groups, which is great), and looked for the specific situation and how to handle it. To make a long story short, after trying different methods, it was the one recommended by Dr. Rosemond in this book that finally worked!!!
I was once a fan of Rosemond.......2002-12-25
When I lived in North Carolina, I read John Rosemond's column and had great respect for what he said. Then I found my parents (we had been separated by adoption), had my own child, and began to realize that some of his advice just does not cut it. For instance, our toddler son still sleeps with us and he is one of the most independent and well-balanced children I have met.
The thing that really bothers me about John Rosemond's views, however, is his stance on adoption. He gives no value to God and nature's choice of parents, relying instead on the "legal parents" that adoption (i.e., social workers and lawyers) creates. He makes the ridiculous comment that "real parents" are the "legal" ones and that we natural parents don't count unless we raise our children. He is also against open records. As an adoptee who was separated for over 34 years from my natural family, I cannot imagine bringing a child into the world without knowing my own family history. Family cannot be erased by mere severance of "parental rights." Even Moses returned to his natural family after being raised in opulent surroundings.
Having read Rosemond's stance on adoption and his disregard for natural families, I am beginning more and more to doubt his advice on child-rearing.
Excellent book for all parents!.......2001-10-20
I believe every parent should read this book and keep it by their bedside while raising their children. Dr. Rosemond doesn't claim to know everything but his methods have been proven to work time and time again. Every suggestion I have followed with my son has worked. The parent should be in charge, not the child. You will not regret buying this book.
Old fashioned common sense!.......1999-05-27
None of that complicated psycho-babble! Very straightforward comments and ideas based on old-fashioned values and common-sense. He can be a bit on the harsh side now and then, but if you filter that out this is a book full of good thoughts and ideas. Also recommended: Kid Cooperation (How to Stop Yelling, Nagging and Pleading) by Elizabeth Pantley
expressed in a straight foward and humorous way.......1999-04-16
i was at my wits end in how i could get my 3 children to listen, cooperate, and get along. this book put everything into a whole new perspective. i felt empowered after reading it(which took about 3 hours because i couldn't put it down) and things didn't seem so impossible. he made me laugh and realize that these problems happen to everyone at some stage in their children's upbringing. it all seemed so common sense i wish i would've thought of it first.
