Whether this is pregnancy number 1 or number 10, nothing makes it easier to connect with a growing baby than knowing exactly what magical development is happening every day. Filling the need for practical information, medical data, emotional and spiritual fuel, and even "pregnancy trivia," The Pregnancy Journal is easily one of the best books available for a woman or couple expecting a baby. The journal contains about half a page of information for each day from conception through delivery. Nutrition, how to avoid discomforts associated with pregnancy, childbirth customs in other cultures, and practical parenting tips are among the topics touched on. Many days in the journal have a great section called "Did You Know"; for example, from Day 49: "The baby's arms at this point are only as long as this printed 1." At the bottom of each page is a quote from a literary or historical figure; some are sentimental, some pithy, some humorous, all inspiring.

The information and quotes seem to invite musings and speculation on the miracle unfolding inside the womb; there is some space for recording data and thoughts, but if you want to write more than just a few lines every few days, you might want to have a blank journal to accompany The Pregnancy Journal. The format of this book makes it much more manageable and inviting than most books on pregnancy, and the information is made even more accessible by the inclusion of a glossary/subject index in the back. Don't wait until the shower to give this excellent resource and thoughtful gift--moms-to-be will want to have it from the very beginning. --Katherine Ferguson

5 out of 5 stars The Pregnancy Journal.......2007-09-21

This is a beautiful discovery of what happens in a woman's body throughout pregnancy and a wonderful way for you as a couple to bond with your baby. The book takes you through the journey and it is a real discovery.

5 out of 5 stars Favorite Pregnancy Book.......2007-07-07

If you are looking for a blank journal - this isn't the book for you. If you are looking for a way to daily connect with the child growing within your womb - this is the perfect book for you. It was a psychological lifesaver for me. When my back was aching and nausea overwhelmed me I would often go to this book and read and it always reminded me that all the tough times of pregnancy are well worth it! I love the in depth detail on the estimated events that are happening. I realize that we all progress differently so the timing may not be perfect. However, as a nurse I am impressed with the accuracy of the material.

I have two sons and purchased a book during each pregnancy. I love reading through my notes in the books and recalling the sweet (and not so sweet) memories of pregnancy. We are planning on trying for another baby soon and this is the top book on my list! It will be a very special part of each of our children's memory chest.

5 out of 5 stars The Best!.......2007-07-02

I bought this journal in 2000 for my first pregnancy and I bought it again in 2006 for my second. It's very user friendly and has just enough space to write down all the important things you want to remember. I love the day by day explanation of what's going on with my body and the baby. I highly recommend this!

5 out of 5 stars wonderful!.......2007-06-27

Best pregnancy journal around...the day by day details are exciting to read and very informative.

5 out of 5 stars This book worked for my sons over 25 years ago.......2007-10-08

I don't remember much of the book as I had borrowed it from the public library after a neighbor told me about it over 25 years ago. I think the book had just come out and was in its earliest edition, sometime in the 70s, when I first used it. I do remember the book advising that boys were harder to train than girls and it was important to wait until the children were at least 2 years old before training as they might have problems with bedwetting later if trained too soon. It was also based on the rewards system - almost like training a dog. But it worked very well for me with both sons without all the hassles I've witnessed in other children and their parents at that stage. The concept was grasped almost immediately by both sons and it was a very pleasurable experience for all of us. No problems whatsoever. Several years later with the 2nd son, I never had to read or refer to the book again. In fact, I remember showing the book to the first son and he just "understood" from my explaining whatever pictures were there. I didn't even read the whole book, maybe 2 or 3 chapters (?). I just remember praising them highly and making a big deal out of it when they successfully pottied, giving them a piece of candy, and not making a big deal out of it when they blew it. :-) One day they were in diapers, the next day they were in training pants, then on to the fancy superman or whatever briefs, never to return to diapers. Potty training was a breeze that lasted 2-3 days at the most, if that long. And it was so much FUN. Would highly recommend book.

5 out of 5 stars This works, but..........2007-10-08

All three of my boys have successfully toilet trained using the method described in this book. Yes, they were all trained at 2 1/2 years of age. Yes, they were all trained in less than a day. However, it was not easy. It took a lot of preparation and determination on my part. Many of my friends have successfully trained their children using this book, and many have tried and only succeeded in great frustration. Here are some of the things I have heard while troubleshooting this training method with frustrated parents:

"I used a few ideas from the book, but it seemed so involved that I skipped a lot. It didn't work."

"I did everything except to make her 'practice' when she had an accident. She hated that part, and it was just so time-consuming. It didn't work."

"Hey, I've been at this for 3 hours now, and it's not working. He just urinated all over the new carpet! What? Did I help him to practice? What's that? No, I haven't had time to read the book, I'm just looking at it as I go along. No, he didn't teach the doll to practice--we don't have a doll that wets. I'm improvising. What page is this practice thing on anyway? Oh, no, he just wet the floor again! And the new baby is screaming! I gotta go feed the little one now. This doesn't work!"

In this book, the authors clearly lay out a specific method designed to quickly toilet train young children. In addition, they discuss the importance of adhering to the method in order to achieve and maintain the desired results. Just owning the book will not help to train your child.
If you do read the book and don't agree with the method, or don't think you can carve out the time required, or are unable to find someone to care for your other children during the initial training period, just don't do it. If you read the book and decide that this is something that you can give adequate time and attention to, this works.

Read the book. Prepare well. Follow the training method. Be consistent in the days following. With preparation, patience, and determination, your child can be toilet trained in a day, too!

4 out of 5 stars Brilliant! - Worked Twice.......2007-09-22

My family and I just returned from a short term work assignment overseas. When we were down to only two weeks left in our trip my wife was becoming very anxious. Our 3-year-old son was to enter preschool as soon as we returned and he was supposed to be potty trained. I had previously trained our daughter at 2-1/2 years using the book but wasn't sure my boy was ready. He showed no inclination for potty training and seemed perfectly happy to continue to wear diapers. Despite the reservations I went ahead and trained him according to the book. He seemed to enjoy it for the most part and thought it a bit of a game. He quickly grasped that the potty was were he was to do his job, but over the next few days he had random accidents during the day and wet his bed almost every night. With our daughter we had deviated from the book's recommendation and put pull-ups on her at night. This was a big mistake and prolonged her gaining control. With the boy we were determined to follow the book and a few middle-of-the-night ordeals ensued. These must have been as unpleasant for him as for us because after a few days he gained control. The BM's were another problem at first, for some reason he was afraid of these and would wait too long. We had to keep extra clothes and zip-lock bags with us wherever we went and were dreading the all-day/all-night airplane flight. We continued to do what the book recommended for accidents and by the time we left for home they were infrequent. We made it through the flight without incident, I think he actually got a kick out of using the airplane bathroom. Today, approximately a month since I trained him he has no accidents during the day or at night and it's been this way for some time.

I think the techniques of the book are effective because they are based on basic principles of human motivation, having fun, approval, mild disapproval (of actions not the child) and are also mindful of how we learn, i.e., precept upon precept based on verbal instructions, visual demonstrations, and the kinesthetics of practice and touch-based guidance. I also thought it was brilliant having the child potty train a doll-that-wets using the same procedure I was using on him! The book is not an easy read however, the technique evolves as the child learns each skill. I found the book somewhat tedious and had to take notes in order to keep the methods straight in my head. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought they could have beefed up the section on BM's and nighttime accidents a bit more. Overall an excellent and effective book.

2 out of 5 stars Not in a day or less.......2007-09-20

This book has a lot of good ideas, however, it did not help with training my 3 year old. It requires you to load up your child on liquid so he/she has the urge to go, which is a good idea. However, checking to see if he/she has dry pants every 5 minutes isn't feasible. Your conversation with your child the whole time is supposed to be about going on the potty - however many hours it takes to get them trained. My son got bored with the conversation and didn't pay attention. And once the child gets the whole going on the potty thing, they aren't supposed to tell you when they have to go, they are just supposed to go. The book states that you should put the potty where ever they may be - outside, inside, in their room - so it is easily accessible to them. I would rather have my son come and get me when he has to go.

Needless to say, my son is still not potty trained and it's been 3 weeks since we've received this book.

5 out of 5 stars So glad this book is still available!.......2007-09-13

We used this method with our 22 month old daughter (in 1985) who was to enter a preschool that did not allow diapers. We worked all day Saturday and part of Sunday (probably took longer than a day because of her young age), and she attended preschool on Monday with no accidents. It's important to work through the pre-skills to make sure the child is "ready" to train, but if the child demonstrates the requisite skills, the program is highly successful with typically functioning young children. The process is intensive, but effective. I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Information.......2007-03-31

I read this book well in advance of "trying" to get pregnant. It's a very good overall book for nutrition, exercise and the reproductive system. It tells you what to do and what to avoid at least 90 days before trying to conceive. Highly recommended

2 out of 5 stars Very disappointing.......2007-01-09

I think this book was written in a very conservative and clinical manner. Realisticly, life is not that serious. It would have been helful to read a more humorous, yet realistic approach to preparing for pregnancy.

5 out of 5 stars THE book. Covers it all!.......2006-12-29

I have read many books in regard to preconception and this one seems to cover it all...in details. It is written by knowledgeble doctors and I really trust their advice like my own doctor's. It answered ALL my questions and even mentioned things I didn't even think of asking. If I had to recommend only one pre-pregnancy book, that would be this one and yet, I believe I have read them all (about a dozen). It is consistent with the other books but it goes in much deeper. Very precise and that's how it should be. Thanks for your help Dr. Ogle!

1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing.......2006-11-06

I found this book to be a good read at first. As I read more, I came upon the food pyramid and was referred to a later chapter. Disappointingly, I found separate food pyramids for Asian-Americans, Mexican-Americans, and African-Americans. I was shocked to read some of the content of the food pyramids and found it to be extremely offensive and prejudice. Lumping an entire race into a different "food consumption" category is unbelievable and very untruthful. For this reason alone, I stopped reading the book halfway through. The book has a copyright date of 2002, which makes the food separate food pyramids even more appalling.

I have found more helpful information for soon to be pregnant women on Internet searches, especially in terms of nutrition and fitness. I expected much more from this book in relation to preparing emotionally and actually evaluating if you are really ready to embark on the new journey we call "motherhood."

4 out of 5 stars Use it for what it is.......2006-07-15

This book isn't for people who are trying to conceive. For those who are preparing to do it in the future it offers good information on diet and environmental hazards. Use it for what it is and it is useful. If you are trying to conceive this book isn't for you.

4 out of 5 stars really cool.......2007-03-13

this journal is really cool. i loved the pregnancy journal, i used that as soon as we knew we were pregnant and i loved the format! so when i heard there was a baby one, i was excited to get it! it is a great place to take notes on your baby as he grows. a 'normal' journal just doesnt work when you are a new mother! so this is a really great item!

5 out of 5 stars Great Journal.......2007-01-19

This Journal is the best I found! I've used the exact same one for all 3 of my kids! What I love about it is it's not a daily journal, yet not a weekly journal. You put your entries in every 4-7 days! And there's great reading in between to keep up on the social, emotional and physical developments of your baby week by week! I never felt "overwhelmed" trying to fill these journals out. The space to write varies in length from 1/4 of a page to 1/2 a page which also helps reduce the stress of having to write a FULL PAGE everytime!

3 out of 5 stars Good for 1st time moms for 1st few weeks.......2007-01-11

This is a nice book for a first time mom in those very early weeks when she is probably very nervous and unsure and might want a neutral source to refer to instead of listening to all the advice of well-meaning friends & family. After the first few months I rarely looked at it aqain though.

5 out of 5 stars Love it.......2006-11-07

I love this series. It's light reading, but has enough information. As a new mom, you don't always have the time to read a book this size, but its broken up into day to day reads, so you can either read one day per day or on week at a time. I got this as gifts for all my friends.

1 out of 5 stars Wishing I had not bought this book.......2006-10-04

I bought both this book and the toddler book to write my childs memories down. I started using it for both my kids and realized that there was very little space to write things down when I needed to. I ended up writing over the text which I just stopped reading because it was not helpful at all and unorganized and was covered much better in other developmental books. To add to the frustration, there are cutesy quotes on EVERY page, and when there was a break in the develpmental jargon, they filled the space up with huge pointless graphics that they did not have the courtesy to make light enough to write over! Why call this a journal at all? I am cutting out the pages I did write in and starting over with another Journal. Dont waste your money.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful book.......2007-07-14

This book will really comfort you to know that the feelings you are experiencing are okay and you are not alone!

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, and more!.......2007-06-04

I was directed to HANNAH'S HOPE by an online friend. We "just happened" to be placing an order at that time, so I added it. When the book arrived last week, I picked it up just to scan through it and couldn't put it down until I absolutely had to.

A couple nights ago when I couldn't sleep, I picked it up again and started from the beginning, highlighter in hand. Only a few chapters in, I'd forgotten the highlighter, forgotten the time, and was just engrossed. Normally, that only happens with fiction or John Piper. This is a great book, and I read the whole thing straight through in that one sitting. In fact, it's still on my current reading list, because I'm going back through it again, more slowly.

I've seen the same tendency in myself that many women battling infertility have, to focus so much on my empty arms that life is miserable not only for me but for everyone around me. But I do not want to be "that woman." My identity is wrapped in the identity of Jesus Christ, whether He ever allows me to a mother or not, and life does not revolve around me or all the ins and outs of infertility and whatever my underlying cause is.

HANNAH'S HOPE is just such a book to help me be the woman I want to be - and that I believe God wants me to be - even if God never gives us children. Mrs. Saake writes from first-person experience with all three child-bearing difficulties she addresses. She's struggled to conceive. She's miscarried multiple times. She and her husband have watched multiple adoptions fall through. She knows what she's about in this arena.

And she is so gracious, and so hopeful! She understands the pain that many women feel, and she understands how nonsensical some of our reactions may seem to what are everyday occurrences to everyone else. But though she kindly acknowledges self-pity and depression as natural emotional responses to everything an infertile or grieving woman is going through, she doesn't allow her readers to wallow. Instead, she points us always, gently, to Christ:

"God knows this grief personally. He has gone to greater measures to make you His child than you will ever go in the pursuit of growing your own family...I like to paraphrase [John 3:16] this way: 'For God so longed to call me His child, that He offered the life of His only biological Son to pay the price of my adoption.'"

As can be assumed by the title, she bases her writing around the story of Hannah from 1 Samuel 1. Each chapter deals with a verse or two from that story, and the various challenges or questions revealed about infertility. She sorts out issues like envy and rivalry, the desire to hear nothing and everything about a friend's or loved one's children at the same time, the impact of infertility and the pursuit of children on marriages, where ethical boundaries are placed by God, how to be a part of a church that seems insensitive to your grief, and how to minister and worship in the midst of heartache.

Mrs. Saake's treatment of such an emotional and devastating issue is one of the best available. HANNAH'S HOPE is written out of a heart that's been there, and has learned to hold tightly to Christ, because only in Him is true strength found.

5 out of 5 stars A true blessing.......2007-05-27

This book has brought to life the story of Hannah for me and brought me great comfort as I struggled to accept my infertility.

Thank you

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2007-05-27

Going through infertility was one of the greatest challengs I had ever faced. After reading "Hannah's Hope", it gave me the hope that I needed. Ms. Saake described exactly how I was feeling. I don't think I could have made it through without that book.

5 out of 5 stars Helped by Hannah's Hope.......2007-05-03

I was given this book just weeks after losing a second long awaited baby that had been conceived after over 3 years of infertility when we were reaching the end of the line with our treatment options. Though everyone around us wanted to help and be encouraging, next to no one could. They simply couldn't begin to understand how much everything hurt and their comments would tax me because they couldn't know what would cause pain. Then came Jenni's book. I literally couldn't stop reading it until I reached the end (at 3:30am). It was like a balm to my spirit to read my own thoughts and words coming from someone else. Her journey has been even longer and harder than mine, and she was able to provide genuine empathy and sound Biblical counsel. I've since bought 10 more copies to give to relatives and churches and have passed it on to other women in our shoes. This is a must read for ANYONE who's going through infertility/child loss or anyone who wants to know how to love them better. A must for pastors as well.

5 out of 5 stars Great, even for kids!!.......2007-01-23

We bought this book for our 5 year old. Every night she loves to see what her little sister looks like, even if she is still in mommy's tummy! Of course there are some things that we skip over. Would be great for a first time mom also, to get to know her new little one.

4 out of 5 stars Generally Good, But..........2005-07-07

I think this book is pretty good. The informaion presented is different from what you get in the 'what to expect' pregnancy books. The pictures, however, make me worry. I just somehow got the idea that maybe some of the pictures where taken of babies who were stillborn, or worse. As a person who is normally very sensitive to these types of things, being preganat, hormonal, and overly emotional, I can't look at the pictures when I read this book. Maybe I'm all wrong, and there is nothing to worry about, but still...

5 out of 5 stars A must-have pregnancy book.......2003-01-17

This book (which concentrates on the baby) is the perfect complement to other pregnancy books (that focus on the mother). I gave this book as a gift to several of my expecting friends. It wasn't until I used for my own pregnancy that I realized how extraordinary it really is. I am a third of the way through my pregnancy and I feel totally 'connected' with my child! This book is great for a first, last or anywhere in-between pregnancy because it provides detailed information about my unborn baby's day-to-day development that I haven't seen anywhere else. I loved the way the information was presented...with adorable images and places for me to jot down notes about how I was feeling and what I was thinking. I use the book each day to see what has changed today in my baby and to jot questions that come up to take with me to the doctor's. This book makes a magical time even more real.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for the expectant mother.......2003-01-17

I gave this book to my wife when we found out she was pregnant. It enabled us to follow along each day with the changes that were occurring in our new baby. The book shows a picture of what she looked like, what physical changes were taking place and what she could do. There really is no other book like this. We really felt connected to our unborn child earlier.

Your reaction might have been something like this: "Hurrah! I'm pregnant! What? TWINS?!" Being pregnant with two (or more!) is different from being pregnant with one, and The Multiple Pregnancy Sourcebook tells it like it is, from weight gain to proper preparation for bringing your duplicate (or triplicate) bundles of joy home from the hospital. Author Nancy Bowers couldn't be more qualified to write such a book: not only is she a nurse and teacher of birth classes, she is also the mother of her own set of twins.

This book covers the same material as any pregnancy guide, and in approximately the same order. Starting with proper nutrition and continuing through the standard routines of visits and testing, it finishes up with the actual labor, postnatal care, and a walk-through of those first few days at home. Because all this information is aimed specifically at multiple pregnancies, you'll also find information about subjects like selective reduction, bed rest, and the chances of having at least one baby delivered by cesarean section. Through it all, Bowers's wise and experienced tone manages to soothe while educating. Bowers emphasizes that "multiple pregnancy is demanding work, but the rewards are matchless." She frequently encourages parents to seek out support, whether through a parenting group or a counselor, and provides an excellent guide at the end of the book that offers contact information for all sorts of potential help.

Destined to become a classic for parents of multiples, this sourcebook is one you'll want to keep handy throughout your pregnancy and beyond. --Jill Lightner

2 out of 5 stars Only useful for the 1st time mother.......2004-03-24

I have no doubt that this book is great for the first time mother, but for someone who has had a child previously, there was not a lot of new information. There is a lot of good basic pregnancy information here, but much of the multiple pregnancy info could be concluded from singleton pregnancy books and good common sense. I wanted specific information on what I could do to prevent pre-term labor, how much to eat and what, and my limitations. This book did not enlighten me very much at all.

5 out of 5 stars Great book. Right on target........2004-03-23

When I was pregnant with my twins, I was looking for a book that was very factual. I wanted the facts, I wanted the numbers, and I wanted it in a straight way. This book does just that. It's no sugar-coated description of a multiple pregnancy and its possible risks. I would greatly recommended to all expecting multiples.

However, as much as I thought I was prepared, I really wasn't. My twins came 2 months earlier and spent 6 weeks in the NICU. I kept referring to the book as the babies were resting in the hospital. They are now happy and healthy and very active 19 month olds! Good luck!

4 out of 5 stars Good Overall Intro. to Multiples.......2004-01-30

The complications with a multiple birth can hardly be tackled in-depth in any one volume, but this book does a great job balancing common-sense medical wisdos and spelling out the innumerable risks to mother and babies. Your OB-GYN can point you to another book that deals with your specific medical problems. As a present for being stuck in bed-rest,I gave my wife: "I SLEEP AT RED LIGHTS: A TRUE STORY OF LIFE AFTER TRIPLETS," by Bruce Stockler, and she loved it. The funniest and most hopeful book about the troubles of multiples and parenting in general. Good luck to all mutiples parents!

5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!.......2004-01-10

I discovered this book about halfway through my pregnancy and was so disappointed not to have found it sooner! It is by far the best twin pregnancy book I have read. A twin pregnancy is such a unique experience and after reading a general pregnancy book or two, you find yourself with lots of questions left unanswered. I kept asking myself, "But how will this be different for me?" Nancy Bowers has the answers. This book is well-organized, well-researched, and covers all aspects of multiple pregnancy in an honest, forth-right manner. Part III "The Joys and Challenges of Being High Risk" can be a bit overwhelming. Here, Bowers reviews the possible problems that can arise during a multiple pregnancy, however she is not alarmist about it. Rather she frequently points out that statistically most of the problems seldom occur. I found it informative and was glad to have the risks spelled out; others might find it somewhat frightening if not kept in perspective --most multiple pregnancies/births are normal and healthy. I'm now 33 weeks pregnant with my twins and reference this book all the time. I had my husband read it and he found it an informative, easy read. We are about to be first time parents and welcome all the info we can get on this very unique experience. Truly a must read for all parents expecting multiples!

5 out of 5 stars Get this book!.......2003-05-13

I bought this book the day after I found out I was having twins and didn't put it down my entire pregnancy. This is a wonderful book. It's written with the unique joys and trials of a multiple pregnancy spelled out clearly. The author is factual and friendly without being preachy like some other pregnancy books I read. It covers both the emotional and physical aspects of a multiple pregnancy and does a great job of preparing the reader for labor and birth(s).

REVISED 2ND EDITION!

NEW! Chapter on Exercise by Marissa Brooks, MS, PT

Mary Ann McCann's award winning book, Days In Waiting: A Guide to Surviving Pregnancy Bedrest, is an invaluable handbook for women undergoing bedrest during pregnancy. Women will benefit from the insight McCann gained as she successfully endured both an at-home as well as extended hospital bedrest. While offering advice on dealing with children, managing outside employment, and finances, McCann candidly reflects on the personal losses associated with a bedrest pregnancy and offers practical suggestions on working with medical caregivers.

This second edition of the book includes a chapter on exercise written by Marissa Brooks, MS, PT. While bedrest and exercise do not seem compatible, exercise can be as simple as deep breathing. With a physician's approval, bed exercises can be appropriate and valuable for maintaining strength, preventing atrophy of muscles, and staying emotionally healthy. Brooks is a licensed Physical Therapist, and a pre/postnatal group exercise instructor. She is the founder of the "Bouncing Back with Baby" mom and baby programs and instructor training seminars, and author of Bouncing Back with Baby: An Exercise Guide for Moms and Babies.

4 out of 5 stars Helped me deal with my psychological issues........2007-01-28

This book helped me identify my grief in missing out on a normal pregnancy-I felt bad about being on bedrest and having the complications I had, but I really couldn't quite put my finger on what was bothering me until I read this book. The suggestions on alternate things you can do (such as having your husband shop for layette and bring items to you for review) were good ones.

The author also included some great suggestions on bed rest exercises that were very helpful-my Dr. was impressed when I showed them to her and asked what I could do.

It is a short book that is mostly the author's pregnancy story, so be forwarned. If you are the type of person that wants to read this and feels better knowing they are not alone in suffering complicated pregnancies, then you would like this aspect of the book, there is plenty of detail there.

I would recommend this book keeping in mind that it is not a gigantic list of 3 million things to do while trapped in bed. It deals a lot more with the psychology of being on bed rest than activities to do while on bed rest.

2 out of 5 stars Save your money-- there are better books out there!.......2007-01-17

While on bedrest with my fourth pregnancy, I ordered a couple of books from Amazon. This one had very little helpful information. I was able to read through the whole thing in less than an hour. Cheesey, touchy-feely, but NOT helpful. The second book I ordered, "Pregnancy Bedrest: A Journey of Love", was much more useful with great things to do with your other kids, in-bed exercises/stretches, lots of links & other resources. I have a feeling I will be referring to this book often during my pregnancy. If you are in the same circumstance, hang in there & God bless!

5 out of 5 stars Good Book for bedrest.......2007-01-10

I brought this book after being on bedrest for 2 months. The writer went through a lot to stay pregnant and deliver healthy baby's. I liked it because she was on bedrest for a long period of time. She touches on the feelings that you get regarding your friends and their committment to you at this time. I read this in one day. A great resource to have and help you through a difficult time!

2 out of 5 stars Really Didn't Meet My Needs!!.......2006-08-13

I bought this book based on ratings and I am not impressed. Been on bedrest for 8 weeks and struggling with depression and anxiety - these types of problems are not addressed very well - disappointed but I will find another one - still 8 more weeks to go.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book For High Risk Pregnancy.......2006-08-13

Mary Ann McCann's book, "Days In Waiting," gives you good, solid help and ideas for dealing with high risk, complicated pregnancy. She covers getting through this difficult time wiht practical advice. As a mom who spent 16 weeks on bed rest, I wish this book had been in print during my pregnancy!

I highly recommend this book to all women and tier families having a high risk pregnancy.

Nikki McClure's beautifully detailed illustrations divide this lovely baby journal into sections celebrating the first 1,000 days of life, from the story of birth to jumping into her first mud puddle. Modeled after the journal the author started when her son was born, the sections focus on recording a child’s interaction with the natural world, including baby’s first tree, moon, and garden.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Unique and sweet baby record.......2007-09-26

This book is very personal, unique and artful. I much prefer the style to any pre-printed baby book I have seen. It is small and paperback, so lends itself more to a journal, which I like. I keep it at my bedside and write when the mood strikes (and no one is crying or hungry!). Because it is less formal, I feel more comfortable just picking it up to write. In my opinion, it is a nice addition to (rather than a replacement for) a more formal, sturdy, large book for holding photos and keepsakes. It doesn't seem like it would withstand a lot of wear and tear, but I'm not sure how important this is anyway. I especially like it for the second child because her "baby book" will certainly have pictures of her big sister too, while this is a nice place, dedicated only to her.

2 out of 5 stars Very little for the money.......2007-06-01

I was very disapointed by this product. I felt the paper-size of the book was too small to enter all the things it requested and the paper appeared and felt cheap.
The topics it suggested that you keep track of seemed good.

5 out of 5 stars Gorgeous alternative baby book.......2007-03-14

Get this for any artists or musicians you know who are having a baby. The book has a poetic tone and lots of space for writing in comments far more personal and sweet than the typical height/weight/tooth stuff. Beautiful!

5 out of 5 stars Love this journal.......2007-02-19

The size of this journal is the perfect size. It is small enought to put in most purses to take it on the go and journal when you get a chance. Love the illustrations and how it is organized.

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy this book from Amazon.......2007-01-18

I have no idea whether the book is any good or not, but I would not suggest buying it through Amazon. I ordered this book when I was barely 2 weeks pregnant. Now I am 2 months pregnant and still have not received it. The shipping and delivery date have been changed either 2 or 3 times. My last shipping date was almost a week ago and my newest shipping date is over a month away. There is no point of buying a daily pregnancy journal if you are going to miss whole trimesters. Amazon has really screwed up on this one.
*** UPDATE*** I have decided not to cancel this order just to see when it would finally ship, after-all I do plan on having another baby someday!! I am now half a week shy of being 5 months pregnant, and I received an email today asking for my 4th or 5th approval (again) for delay in shipment and delivery. IF the book arrives within the new delivery dates, I should get my book at about 6 months (remember I ordered this book when I was 2 weeks pregnant). I am starting to get a kick out of this situation...
UPDATE***** Amazon has written me an email canceling this order because they can not acquire the book. I am 6 months pregnant, and this whole debacle has totally turned me off of Amazon considering that when I wrote an email to customer service about it they offered me $5.00 off of my next purchase, but when I went to pay it only applied $4.49 (not even enough to cover the shipping). I think I just may be done with Amazon altogether.

5 out of 5 stars going back for #2.......2005-05-07

I used this book for my first pregnancy. I liked that it had everything organized by week, but the way it's designed, you can also just write a free form summary of the whole week. To me, that was better than writing daily. There's a notes section at the bottom of the page that lists weight, diet, exercise, habits and next dr's appt. It also shows development milestones for both mother and baby each week, as well as helpful hints. It also has six weeks worth of after-the-baby-comes pages.

I looked at other books available and decided to go with this one again. It's hardcover (not spiral or paperback) and is sturdy, plus why mess with a good thing?

It's going to be interesting for me to now go back and compare my new pregnancy to my old.

4 out of 5 stars An ideal gift for first-time moms!.......2001-11-18

This pregnancy diary is divided into the three trimesters beginning with the first week of pregnancy and ending 6 weeks after birth. It gives a brief week-by-week synopsis of the changes the mother-to-be should expect to experience in her body along side a weekly summary of the baby's development. It also provides weekly helpful tips and hints on subjects such as lifestyle and alternative healthcare. There is a section for documenting weight, diet, excersise, habits and the next doctor's appointment. At the back of the book there is a small family tree as well as a place for ultrasound pictures and photographs. Overall, it is a delightful book with space for recording a few lines of writing from mom-to-be each day of this very exciting and memorable time.
