Well-written.......2007-09-01
I thought this book was very well written and really takes the axiety and akwardness out of your discussion. Great book to squeeze into a regular scheduled reading time. The book does contain a page that has a man and a woman body from the neck down in the nude. This illustration is a very generic one. I think that should be issued in the books description so that parents are aware of this. Otherwise, I really thought the book was great. I read a review that said it did not give this look from an adopted childs point of view. The book itself was about a girl who was not adopted. There is one point in the book that does mention adopted children. Highly recommended.
Where do babies come from.......2007-05-13
It was very helpfull for my 10 years old daughter.
This book was EXCELLENT!.......2007-01-13
My daughter loved this book and she wasn't embarassed by it at all. I felt it was time to start explaining things to my 8 1/2 year old daughter. With all the talk of "sex" on television, I knew she was getting curious as to what "having sex" meant. This book dealt with the issuse in a very kid friendly narrative. It's not factual, but a great story with words, pronunciation, and careful explainations. There's no good way of getting around explaining the "sex act", but this book handles he subject in a delicate, but clear way.
The OTHER book that I bought, "Before I Was Born", by Carolyn Nystrom, in my opinion was WAAAAAY too descriptive for 5 to 8 year old. It, in so many words, decribes an orgasm! "Body parts fitting inside others, semen flowing inside of her and bodies feeling good all over." It sounds graphic and I paraphrased!!! That is just unnecessary for a parent who desires to teach the basics of sexuality to a young child. This is more for an older pre-teen.
I would definitely recommend "Where Do Babies Come From?"
great book.......2005-11-01
This book is simple and to the point! My kids loved it, especially my 6 year old son. It was just enough for him to know at this time.
Not For Kids Who Were Adopted.......2003-11-01
I do not like this book overall. While it does have age appropriate discussion of sex and pregnancy with a Christian focus, the text is too long in my opinion for a child of the target age to sit and listen. My primary objection is that this book is not appropriate at all for adopted children. The stories are told entirely from the point of view of a birth child. The comments and discussions focus on the idea of children being born into the family, nursing to be fed, and so on. There is a very tiny discussion about all families being "different" and a particular child not looking like his birth parents b/c he was adopted; this plus the strong focus of the text on birth families would alienate a child who was adopted rather than inform him/her. If you are looking for a facts of life book and your child was adopted, do not get this book.
Book Description
In this hilarious twist on one of the most difficult discussions in a child's development, award winning author Babette Cole illustrates the one question all children are bound to ask: Where do babies come from? Mom explains that you can make babies out of gingerbread, grow them from seeds, or squeeze them out of tubes, while Dad says you can find babies under rocks. Amused by their parents' silly answers, the children decide to set the adults straight. In a series of zany diagrams, the children show the adults exactly where babies come from. The offbeat illustrations are accompanied by a text that is short, simple, and anything but predictable. This is a funny book that will delight, entertain, and educate the entire family.

Funny and accurate without being too deep - perfect introduction!.......2007-06-29
My kids and I love this book. It takes a potentially embarassing subject from lots of blushing, mumbling, and eyerolling, to something funny and open and natural. It's a good way to answer those first questions about the "birds and bees" without getting all clinical and serious. I first gave it to my children when they were around six or seven - they are now approaching their teens and they'll still read it, every once in awhile, just because it's so darn cute and funny. I'm glad it gave us an opportunity to talk about this stuff while they were still young and receptive - it has paved the way for us to continue to be open and communicate with one another as they grow up.
Refreshing Book for the Mom Who Thinks Knowledge about Sex Keeps Kids Safe.......2007-03-19
The basic controversy about this book is that it shows cartoonish characters in sexual positions--funny ones on innertubes, swings, etc. Some parents think that it's wrong for kids to know how sex happens. Some think that the pictures offer a great opportunity--perhaps for the parent to have a discussion about healthy, responsible sex.
This book is for the mom who is looking for a way to tell her kids how the sperm gets into the mommy. Yes, I'm one of those parents because I believe that only with the right information will my kids have the wisdom to make good decisions. After all, when they need to make this decision, I probably won't be there, will I?
This is for the parent that believes that having the discussion about sex early and often will encourage the child to continue to come to the parent for sound advice.
This book was a delightful way to make a potentially uncomfortable discussion comfortable. Although the pictures don't get into many details, they allow parents to broaden the discussion. Parents can use the pictures to talk about how it's possible to keep the sperm from getting to the egg; why we might want to do that; when it's a good time to have sex and when it isn't such a great idea; that with this knowledge we have control over what happens.
I love the fact that this book shows that sex is fun. Sex IS fun. That's an important, healthy message too. In the end, I'd rather that my kids hear this from me. They hear it from movies, their friends, and television as it is, so I like the fact that this book allows me to offer my tempering opinion on the subject.
This is a great book for moms who want to raise kids who grow up feeling that sex is a natural, good part of life. The mom who buys this book wants to say that sex is not dirty; sex is not shameful. This book is for the mom who wants her kids to have the basic knowledge they need to act responsibly.
The perfect start of an interesting discussion.......2007-02-06
We own this book and also "Where did I Come from?" by Peter Mayle (which I had as a child in the '70's.)
For our family, this book has been a comfortable light-hearted way to answer our preschoolers' questions about where she came from without getting bogged down in confusing medical terminology.
She definitely *GETS* it, thinks it's hilarious (especially the part about the babies growing on plants) and says she loves the drawings. (She's a very visual person) As far as the 2 page spread showing the hippie couple "doing it" on the hippity hop, all I can say is: I think this section was designed to make the adult reader laugh. (Lighten up folks...sex IS pretty funny and slightly ridiculous when you think about it) My daughter barely glossed over this part and was far more interested in the "great egg race". Comparing the 2 books, I am far more comfortable reading this than the Mayle book, which I think is more suitable for older kids as it delves more into the "making love" aspect of reproduction. Kudos to the author/illustrator for tackling a tough topic in a charming and funny way.
Great for Parties..........2006-07-01
Adult parties, that is. As a person with a dirty mind, I loved this book, as a mother, I was offended. It had cartoons doing "it" in several positions. The pictures were too much, and I will never show my kids this book.
appalling.......2006-06-11
I'm surprised this book isn't banned. I'm not a prude or religious at all and believe children should learn about sex. But there's a limit to what they should know and how they should be taught. There are many other, more civilised, ways to bring up the subject. Babette Cole brings up very inappropriate subjects for kids with very inappropriate illustrations. If you think this book is shocking, try reading "Mummy Never Told Me", by the same auther.

Educational.......2007-01-03
Where Do Babies Come From? is a good book for children who are curious about babies and where they come from. This book includes real pictures of animals and people. Where Do Babies Come From gives general explanation of where baby animals come from and transitions over to people. Recommended to parents to read with their children 5+ years of age.
good book for a simple introduction to reproduction.......2003-05-22
This is a good book for a very beginning introduction to reproduction for young children. It will definitely need to be supplemented with more detailed text and diagrams, but it's an easy place to start when you don't want to go into too much detail for a first talk. It starts out with bees and plants and moves to ducks, cats, and then humans. It uses the terms "sperm" and "eggs" but does not use any male or female anatomical terms (other than "womb") or show any diagrams of anatomy except for a superimposed drawing of a baby inside the uterus of a fully clothed woman. There is also a photo of kittens being born. That's as specific as this book gets. A good place to start for a child of about 4.
It's a good ice breaker.......2001-11-16
I was looking for answers to that exact question from my 4 year old and the book covers how a baby starts with a sperm and an egg. It started out great explaining how a bee carries pollen on it's legs from flower to flower creating a seed, but then the explaination becomes vague as it gets into the animals and humans and how the male sperm and the female egg get together to create a baby. The problem is that it answers the question where, but leaves the child with the question of How. It's honest and written to a 4 year old level with terminology that works well. I think it will help you break into a discussion of how that sperm gets to the egg.

Not what I had in Mind.......2000-01-23
When I ordered this book I was looking for an answer to my six-year-old question "where do babies come from?" From the title I thought this book would help with the uncomfortable topic of sex at a six-year-old level. The only thing this book did was preach about morals and values which I mostly agree with but are not completely true to this day and age with combined families and single parent families being more common. Plus I know how to teach morals and values I wanted something to explain the new baby in my tummy to my daughter. This book did not do that at all.
A book about good values.......1999-11-09
This book is not for educating your child about sex, it is to teach your child values about when sex is appropriate. It seems a little wordy and not as forthright as I might have liked, but the message is a very valuable one.
Charming book with a moral message!.......1999-04-23
I recently purchased this book for my niece and was absolutely delighted by it. The main character, Jenny had parents who explained to her what must come before making babies: deep love and marital commitment. The negative effects of not waiting for true love and marriage were emphasized also. There is nothing inappropriate or offensive about this book. It is a good stepping stone for talking to your child more in depth about sexuality. You must buy this book!
Book Description
"Where do babies come from?" It's a question almost every child asks - and one almost every parent dreads.
In reality, there is no need to dread the question, especially when armed with this gospel-centered book on sex education. Written by brad Wilcox, who has taught maturation clinics in elementary schools for years and authored the book Growing Up: Gospel Answers about Maturation and Sex, this book gives parents helpful ideas on how to talk with their children about sex. Parents will learn about the seven Ps of sex education:
· Process - Look at teaching as a process
· Personalize - Personalize the experience
· Private - Speak in private
· Probing - Ask probing questions
· Point-blank - Offer point-blank information
· Positive - Be positive about the subject
· Perspective - Teach sexuality from a gospel perspective
The illustrated potion of the book provides parents with appropriate answers to questions typically asked by young children. Parents and older children can use the Question and Answer section at the back of the book as a guide in opening a more advanced discussion of these sensitive topics. Moms and dads will especially welcome the open dialogue this book promotes and the simple, gospel-oriented explanations it provides to help children understand the origins of life and appreciate the sacredness of our God-given creative powers.

Great book!.......2000-02-10
I think this book is appropriate for children ages 4-8 and maybe even older, depending on their maturity (or lack thereof). If you are generally open and honest with your children and usually explain things to them in a no nonsense, matter of fact way -- this book will assist you with the "tough" questions. It VERY briefly covers the whole "sex" thing -- but explains it in simple terms that children will accept easily -- without shock or embarassment. The pictures are NOT too graphic, in my opinion. Great book! Very useful and really very sweet.
Not appropriate for toddlers.......1998-10-01
The comment states that this book is for 4 to 8 year old children. This book is not appropriate for toddlers. I would even hesitate to show this book to an eight year old child. I think that for child that is 10 or older, it would be appropriate. The material (reading and pictures) is much to graphic for a four year old child.

Good way to introduce the "birds and the bees".......2007-09-01
My son and I had the best laughs reading this book; somewhat embarrasing at time but it was all out there, he was able to ask questions and it was a great way to discuss these things with him as it is with any child. I highly recommend this book for 9 or 10 year olds if your ready to discuss such things with them.
Offers too much detail in my opinion.......2007-08-23
Although I believe this book may be suitable for some kids, I do not believe it is suitable for my son and that is why I did not give it to him. Some pages from the book actually made me turn red! It is my opinion that kids do not need to know all the details provided in this book in order to get the message of where they came from. An edited version would work better for me.
Covers the embarressing areas.......2007-08-23
This book does a great job at explaining why grownups like to have sex. It describes the feelings, without getting lewd.
Where Did I Come From?.......2007-08-09
My son read this in addition to another similar book, and said that this book has less information in it.
Just the facts.......2007-07-13
Great book. I had it when I was a kid and bought it for my niece and nephew. It's just the facts. With all the sex in the media and talk on the playground I think kids deserve to know the truth.

What I have been looking for.......2006-09-07
We actually found this book in a used bookstore. I am so glad to have found it. My girls, 4 and 2, keep asking me how the baby got into my belly, and how it looks now and so on. THis book goes into all of it, and actually shows a picture of the baby being born. They also ask me how the baby is going to come out. This book is great.
A must have for parents .......2006-02-27
This is the most artful, beautiful and straight forward book I have found for helping my children understand the miracle of conception and birth. It is simple and gorgeous! By this book!

Kisses come from all occassions.......2007-06-19
A really warm and loving book to share with the younger child or toddler, the words are simple but the message is one filled with warmth and love.
Kisses come from all occassions and are often "just because".
Cute, quick bedtime (anytime) story.......2007-02-12
This is a cute book with cute, colorful illustrations. It is great for those times that you don't have much time to read to your little ones.
A warm and lovely book.......2003-04-03
My 18-month-old daughter loves this book and I have bought copies for all the little ones I know, all of whom love it too. They really enjoy the animal pictures, and seem to understand the warm, loving words even at this young age. As a plus, the text is well-enough written that reading the book over and over and over again does not drive you crazy.
Great Book to illustrate LOVE to Toddlers.......2002-06-11
My 2.5 years old son falls in love with this book. With this book, he learns that "Kisses come from LOVE." After reading this book, he will kiss me and say " I love you." This is really a charming book with colourful illustrations. It shows how Mom and Dad LOVE their babies with kisses during the daily activites, like bathing / reading time.
Kiss and Tell.......2000-10-02
Overall, the book is well written but what is really capturing is the art! The artist did a fantastic job bringing animals to life in real situation you may encounter with your young ones! A joy to look at and great for kids.
