Great Haggadah!.......2007-05-14
We were very happy with this Haggadah. Everything is there (hebrew, songs, stories, the afikomen, the wine, etc.) yet it is not excessively long. We had observant Jews, non-practicing Jews and a few non-Jews at our Sedar and they all throughly enjoyed the service. The ages ranged from 9 years old to 53 years old and included 3 teenagers. Truly several generations represented.
A Haggadah Mostly for the Younger Generations.......2007-05-07
The "Family Haggadah" appears to be illustrated and annotated for parents who want to keep their 7 - 12 year olds engaged during the seder. For that purpose, the Family Haggadah seems to be an excellent choice. Beautifully illustrated with lots of fun "side" facts. If you have teenagers or are a group of all adults, the Family Haggadah will likely come off as too childish. The content is good for various degrees of religious seders. If you are looking for a more cultural/humanistic/secular approach to celebrating Passover, this Haggadah will leave you wanting more. I take my hat (but not my kippa) off to the author for creating a kid friendly haggadah that parents could tolerate.
Perfect haggadah for an energetic and fun seder.......2006-04-11
I was looking for an easy-to-read Haggadah that was intelligent but at the same time fun for kids. This is the perfect one after a 10 year search. It is also the perfect amount of information...enough to make the seder interesting, but not too much that you get the feeling it will never end! Thank you Mr. Gindi for this Haggadah!!!
Very Interesting. A Great Learning Experience.......2003-10-20
This is a wonderful Haggadah that we have been using in my family ever since my dad wrote it. It is easy to understand and it makes the meal so much less boring. I am 11 which is the youngest in my family and we still use it in our seders. I hope that everyone who is young or old loves this book. I sure did!
Great for families with preschool and school-age children.......2003-05-04
This was our third year using this Haggadah with our children, now 7 and 9 years old, and we will probably use it for at least a few more years. The "Family Haggadah" includes a complete service (i.e., no steps are skipped) with brief, clear English narration and key blessings and verses in Hebrew or Aramaic. The service is traditional with some contemporary additions - the Matzah of Hope; a poem written by a boy imprisoned in a concentration camp; Miriam's Cup; and one of our favorites, the Frog Song. The authors estimate that the service will take 45 minutes before dinner and 15 minutes after; we found it took closer to 55 minutes before dinner. The book is beautifully illustrated and includes discussion topics in boxes alongside the main text ranging from "what is your favorite part of the service" to a more sophisticated consideration of what it means to be enslaved versus free. Because the text is streamlined and simplified, rather than dumbed-down, this is also an ideal Haggadah for first-time seder hosts and seder novices of any age. To keep the service brief, very few traditional Hebrew songs are included. If you like to sing, you will need to supplement the "Family Haggadah" with a more traditional book, such as the Maxwell House version available in supermarkets.

Good resource for prayers. I thought I was ordering the book not a prayer supplement but was pleasantly surprised at the prayers. They are very appropriate for raising children. There is space after each themed prayer for you to enter your prayers for your children.

A Book With A Difference.......2007-03-09
The Power Of A Praying parent is a phenominal book. Its easy lay out makes it ready for reading. The subject matter for praying is very timely and speaks to the many problems and issues that confronts us as parents today. The author Stormie Omartian seeks to keep parents in constant prayer for their children, by outlining specific prayers for specific situtions. Each topic is personialised and is designed to meet each reader at that particular level of their prayer life. My recent purchase was as a result of other parents having a glympse of the book's content and wanted to have the opportunity to really experience the innermost prayers for which it holds. This book of Prayers is far reaching and its content surpasses ones expectations of praying from a "Book"'

Learning to pray the sciptures is fantastic.......2007-01-10
This is the best book. I have recommended it to several people. I even purchased a few for Christmas presents. I've read it from cover to cover and want to go back and do it again. You can choose a topic and pray for
that specific thing in your childs life. What a help and blessings this is.
Praying the Scriptures for Your Children.......2007-01-04
Any parent who values prayer should read and use this book. It has guided me and it has blessed our children already in many ways. Truly a wonderful book and the best gift I have received in a long time.
The best guide for praying when you are a busy mom.......2006-12-04
This is a unique book. Each chapter covers a concern parent's have for their children - ranging from your child's salvation, to them finding their purpose in life, to their relationships with parents, friends, or a future spouse.
Chapters are short and to the point and end with scripture passages that are made into prayers with blanks so you can insert your child's name (or your own!!)
My partner feels the author comes across as the perfect parent -- too perfect -- but I try to focus more on the message and find this is a wonderful resource!
ENCOURAGING & POWERFUL.......2006-08-17
What a beautiful book to continually inspire in a refreshing and encouraging way for us Moms to trust God's WILL as we pray HIS POWERFUL WORD in the lives of our children!
The stories are inspiring and your faith will be built in our Almighty God, trusting in Him to not relate our failures to our childrens lives, but HIS GRACE!
Nothing is more powerful than PRAYING HIS WORD!! His Word is THE SWORD OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, it is HIS TRANSFORMING, SANCTIFYING, CREATING POWER! God's perfect will WON'T "JUST HAPPEN" we must invite Him into our lives in prayer, and we don't want life to "Just Happen" to our kids either! God is waiting to open the Heavens and sprout forth salvation and righteousness into lives and hearts...AS WE ASK!!! A beautiful blend of stories and Scriptures, I shall use this daily along with my "ALPHABET PRAYERS...the Power of Praying Scritpure into the HEARTS YOU LOVE..for Your Husband, Children & Pastors."

Recovery as well as life is only one day.......2006-08-17
I don't think we as human beings actually recognize the power of daily reading, meditation, and reflecting. Practicing these powerful principles allows us to remain mindful of the moment and reflect upon the deeper question in our lives. To devote ourself to a daily meditation and to journal on these quiet times is priceless and will certainly aid in the evolution of our soul. For me this practice has allowed an awakening to take place and opens my life up to all the opportunities that are available in this universe. Please give this practice a try! This book will help you in your journey of living and cultivating an active consciousness in your daily life.

I especially enjoyed the prayer "God help me to stay clean & sober today!" at the end of each daily meditation. I gave it to her as a gift, and I feel that this book is a truely great and wonderful tool in developing a better relationship with and understanding into my loved one's journey.

Great Book.......2006-11-24
I really enjoy this book because it really influences every part of a girl's life. You see, if you are ready for a book that challenges you in godly character in every part of your life, this is for you! I prefer books that cover a lot of ground!--and this is one of them. It is definitely an "All in One" book. I also appreciate how George wrote in many of the scriptures so you don't have to search around for a bible--makes it much more versatile--and you can feel like you can pick it up and start reading at any time. Very good. Blessings!

"Cool Mom's" review.......2005-12-09
I am reading through Woman After God's Own Heart, which I so wanted to share with my son's girlfriend, very new and unsure of her faith, with absolutely no spiritual support from her parents. But "Woman" is very mature and deals with women more my age. I saw "Young Woman" here when I ordered another copy of "Woman" for a close friend. I'm excited about the book... I know some of these teens reviews are mixed, and one actually very harsh. I will say this to the young ladies out there... it IS possible to live purely and holy before God as a teen. I did it with peer pressure and all... I saved myself for marriage and have had a wonderful life. It was not and still is not always easy - even adults have peer pressure. My husband and I talk to our kids about EVERYTHING and don't "flowerize" anything. It is hard out there - but God requires integrity from us. Remember, Elizabeth George was a teen at one time and she raised teen daughters... the way she speaks is out of a heart of love for you and for the Kingdom of God. Philippians 4:8 says Whatever things are pure, true, just, lovely and of good report with VIRTUE and PRAISE - think on THOSE things. When I read the book with my daughter I'll come back to give my final opinion. Blessings!
Too rosy for me.......2005-12-07
The purpose of the book and the message is nice, but George's advice of how teenage girls should behave gave me the impression she expects them to be sweet, spotless little angels. Sorry, but we all know that's not possible, no matter how much some parents wish it is. George seems to have forgotten this fact, even though she herself had tough teen years and an obnoxious stage (hey, we all did!). I've been a Christian all my life and was never an out of control teenager, but when my own dear mother gave me this book, I could tell after just a few pages that it was not going to work for me. In fact, George's tone was so conservative, I nearly swore off Christian guidebooks forever. Don't get me wrong; it's not a bad book altogether and the messages about God's love were very uplifting. Unfortunetly, a lot of her advice on how to be a "proper" Christian girl was unrealistic.
The most startling part of the book was when she shared the dating rules her husband placed for their own daughters: No dating whatsoever until after high school. Once out of high school, they STILL couldn't date unless the boy asked the father first (this included long distance calls if necessary, even if the "date" consisted of nothing more than going out to get a coke!) This long-distance thing seems to imply that the girls weren't living at home anymore, and yet he still ran their social lives? Call me a hoodlum, but that's controlling, not protecting; we're talking about girls who were legally adults here. I half expected George to say that her husband also picked out his daughters' spouses for them. She almost gave the impression that her husband didn't trust their daughter's judgement.
Please don't get the wrong impression; I believe strongly that teens should be taught about Christ, I just don't think George did the best job of it in this case. She's not a bad writer, but she doesn't appear to realize that most people wouldn't appreciate reading a whole book written with a gently patronizing tone that seems more fit for small children than young adults. Try to keep in mind that being Christian alone doesn't qualify someone as a good adviser and just because some of you moms like George doesn't mean your daughters will. No matter how sweet George may be, she doesn't appear to understand modern teenagers enough and teens should not be advised by someone who doesn't understand them. For a more realistic view of teen life, I recommend "Teen Ink", any of the wonderful "Chicken Soup" books, "Queen Bees and Wannabes" (if you're a parent trying to help your daughter with teen issues), or the awesome "Chocolate for the Teen's Dreams". Blessings on your journey with Christ!

The title says it all "Today's Gift".......2006-12-14
This is a book to nurture and encourage. It is a great devotional that can be used, read, and reread year after year until some of it's lessons sink in and become your own personal mantra.
Book Description
Sticky Situations is a devotional book for families with children ages 8 to 12 that offers short readings for each day of the year. Each reading begins with a kid who is facing a moral dilemma and ends with multiple-choice solutions for the family to discuss. Often there is more than one acceptable course of action to take. Parents will find tips in the back of the book that interpret the various choices made by the children and offer follow-up questions for further discussion on each topic. Scripture references are provided to give biblical insight into each situation. Sticky Situations is a great discussion starter that will give parents the chance to share their own values with their children.
Customer Reviews:
Sticky Situations make kids think.......2007-01-15
I purchased Sticky Situations as part of the expectations for a kids small group. I am wanting to teach them the importance of daily devotions and also help them to think on their own when they need to make decisions. This devotional provides a situational story and then gives the reader several options of ways to respond. After they make their choice the reader can then confirm their answer through the scripture reference. Kids are faced with many choices aside from the one made at home and this book should help them make right choices.
Apply Biblical Truth to Every Day Life.......2006-11-20
Is the Bible an out-of-date, dusty old book or is it relevant to daily life? This book takes current situations that kids are facing and provides five choices for action. The choices are a springboard for discussion between parents and their kids.
After reading the story and talking about the choices, you turn to the back and find some additional points for discussion.
This book is an ideal product for families with school-age children. It gives you a consistent well-crafted tool to talk about Biblical truth then your children can easily apply the lessons into their current situation.
Great.......2006-04-19
This is the best devotion book ever!!!!!!!!! My teacher has it and it is fun to listen too. It makes me happier to listen to God's word in the morning at school!:-)
Good idea - but geared more towards middle school kids.......2006-03-29
I have to agree with previous reviewers. This book is based on a really good idea, however, I find a lot of the entries are not really appropriate for my 8 year old. He does understand the concepts, and it makes it a lot easier to help "expand" on the idea and open up further discussion, but most of the situations presented aren't relevant to any child under 12 years old.
The book is divided into 365 different devotions - organized by date only. It is difficult to determine what each story is about without reading a little bit of it (each average 18-25 typed lines)--you can't simply go by the title of the story. An index of 'situations' would be nicer. There's also no actual Bible verses listed in the back of the book as previously mentioned in other reviews. There is an "Index of Verses" organized by Old vs. New Testament, and each verse has the corresponding daily devotion listed. You still need your own Bible to actually look up the verses.
Appropriateness - it depends on each child - but this book includes a lot of situations involving 'youth groups' at church, babysitting, being on sports teams at school, the child working at VBS or in other 'leadership' type roles. Like I said - I'd say this is geared more towards middle school or jr high age kids.
It's still got a lot of great information in it and provides us with a good opportunity to discuss every day situations and to use our Bibles on a daily basis!
real situations.......2005-08-30
this devotional is great. I have 1 and 2 and I read it everyday. The stories are situations the kids can find themselves in. Then there is a question to answer and bible verses to point them in the right decision. I love it.
Book Description
The One Year Book of Josh McDowell's Family Devotions is a Right From Wrong devotional that reinforces the need for applying the Scriptures to everyday decisions. Each of the 365 readings includes a story situation that deals with a contemporary issue and helps families think through how to make the right choices in a particular situation. At the end of each reading is a helpful feature that encourages families to pray, invites them to discuss the issue further, or gives them a practical task to perform.
Customer Reviews:
Great Application!.......2006-03-28
I really like this devotional. The application is good for everyday life of kids in school. I would recommend it for older elementary and middle school. Some of them are a little too old for 1st and 2nd grade children.
Josh McDowell Family Devotions.......2006-03-11
Ordered this product Feb. 3rd and as of today (March 10th) I have not received the product or any information as to why. I finally ordered this product elsewhere and received it in three days. Still waiting to find out if I will receive a refund into my account for this product, since it was paid for in advance. NOT IMPRESSED
Nice Family Devotional.......2006-03-04
These are light topic devotionals for the family. It is not a devotional if you're geared to more deep issues that your children deal with. But in all, a good devotional.
a practical guide to discussion with your family.......2005-06-24
The tempo of this devotional is great. It is short enough to keep my teenage son engaged throughout our after-dinner devotions, but not so short that it becomes a pointless reading of words, primarily because of one key feature that I have found in (sadly) few (read: no) other family devotional: The "To Discuss" questions.
I learned recently that my son didn't like our family dinners because they weren't meaningful for him. I didn't understand that until I finally learned that teens don't see questions like "how was school" and "how was your day" to be meaningful questions, even though I thought so since I was interested in his life. No, they want to discuss issues. This devotional sets those discussions up for you by including discussion questions at the end of each day's devotion that are based on the Bible reading for the day and on the story (or case) for that day. Without the discussion, the devotional probably takes no more than 5 minutes, but my family has sat for up to a half hour after dinner discussing the lessons in this devotional. And for those who aren't prayer warriors, the prayer after discussion is very short. Have a longer one if you want, but I don't usually.
All in all, an exceptional devotional for talking to your family!
Book Description
Arnold Ytreeide takes the whole family on an Advent journey in anticipation of Christmas. Day by day we follow the adventures of Jotham, a lad who has a very special relationship with Jesus that will be revealed at the end of this engaging story. With a nightly story that you can scarcely put down, a devotional thought, prayer and the lighting of the Advent candles, Jotham's Journey will draw your family closer together and near to Jesus, God-incarnate in the Child of Bethlehem.
Customer Reviews:
Great story / devotional book for Advent .......2005-12-27
This was our family's best Advent yet! Occasionally "Jotham's Journey" was a bit too action-packed for our daughter (age 5), but she and our son (age 8) couldn't wait for each day's segment. Arnold Ytreeide is a master storyteller. His intricate blending of facts about biblical times into a fast-paced storyline captured our imaginations. We'll never look at Advent the same again. Our family can't wait to read Ytreeide's other books in 2006 and beyond.
Revitalizing Christmas.......2005-12-26
My family ranges in age from 5 (my youngest son) to 50 (me). Let me just say at the outset that every one of us loved this book. This is a good story, well told. But before I continue with the review, I want to tell you how we stumbled across this book.
Back in July our church called a new pastor. I'm from a denomination that doesn't typically observe the Advent season, but our new pastor, who had never celebrated Advent either, wanted the church to try it. His goal was to help both the church and the families in our church to focus on Christ. It worked!
In conjunction with the special services we had at church, each family was encouraged to find a way to set aside some time every day to put everything else aside for a family devotional. We did some extensive research and made a list of resources (which you can see at 4jesu.homestead.com/files/advent.doc).
My family chose this book. It's sectioned into daily readings, usually just 2 or 3 pages. We made an advent wreath and gathered around it each evening to read. The story is engaging.
The central character, a young boy named Jotham, finds his life unexpectedly intertwined with the birth of the Messiah, and learns some important lessons about obedience and responsibility along the way. The story even attempts to show some of the unpleasant consequences of disobedience, and the sometimes harsh realities of life.
My only caveat is that the short devotional thought at the end of each day's chapter is a little weak, but I was able to improvise easily and give it a little more substance. That doesn't affect my recommendation. This book gets 5 stars. If you're looking for a way to revitalize your family celebration of Christ's birth, this is a great place to start.
A Newbie's Journey With Jotham during Advent .......2005-12-21
What a wonderful book. There is something so satisfying about sitting together in our living room, with Advent candles burning and the kids spellbound, listening to every word of this story. We are on our fourth week reading, and the kids still come running when we say it is time to light the Advent candles.
The story follows Jotham's journey to find his family after he gets angry at his father and runs away. He has many exciting cliff-hanger adventures that may seem contrived to adults but believe me, the kids won't care and will beg you to read the next day's section. Jotham ultimately ends up in Bethlehem and his life intersects the lives of Mary, Joseph, and the newborn Christ child in a lovely way that brings home Christ's divinity as well as the humanity of his infancy.
As a homeschooling mother, I really appreciate the way Jotham's Journey makes biblical times come alive. Even though there are very few illustrations in the book, the text provides many details about daily life that raised good questions from the kids, showing their engagement with the story and their desire to understand the setting.
One reviewer said this book is written for "conservative, evangelical Christians". I have to dispute that. Jotham's Journey IS a Christian story that tries to bring to life the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of the Savior. But presumably this is a given to a family that wants to celebrate Advent.
A couple of times the book emphasizes the importance of children being completely obedient to their parents/caretakers (Jotham's disobedience gets him into his mess), and it also refers to corporal punishment a couple of times as a natural consequence of disobedience. And there is some violence, which is used for the purposes of both evil and good. I suppose this could also be inconsistent with the moral beliefs of some families.
Otherwise I am mystified as to what the reviewer found as inconsistent with "liberal Christianity" or "an inclusive view of God's love". I don't know what the reviewer meant by "liberal Christianity", but I will say our family has a very inclusive view of God's love and we love this book.
This is our first year celebrating Advent. Previously, the holidays were pretty much a blur of decorating, wrapping, baking, and shopping, shopping, shopping. Christmas would arrive before I knew it and I would be exhausted, the kids would be hyper and focused on the presents. It occurred to me that from my children's perspective, Christmas was about gifts, decorations, and a frazzled mother.
One of the most effective things we've done to change that has been lighting Advent candles every night and reading this book by candlelight. It has been a simple and completely rewarding way to draw our family together.
Exceptional, exciting story telling with great heart!.......2005-12-14
My wife and I started reading the Jotham "trilogy" years ago and we are now on a second reading of "Bartholomew's Passage." I cannot imagine not including these books in our advent schedule. Our four kids (ages 11,9,7,3) all look forward to each nights reading - and so do my wife and I. These stories are just great. The author manages to combine some of the harsh, gritty realities of this time along with some great and noble characters who befriend the titled "Jotham", "Bartholomew" or "Tabitha," each with a struggle to overcome. A great set of stories that honorably intersect with the "greatest story ever told."
A Great Journey for Advent.......2005-11-08
As all of the previous reviewers have said so well, this book is a wonderful book for journeying through Advent with children. I am sure that that is true. I, also, as an adult, have enjoyed using it for my own time of prayer. At the end of each story about a shepherd boy 2000 years ago there is an encouragement to apply it to our own journey to Christmas this year. I am a Catholic. I was raised a Presbyterian. And I believe that Catholics and mainline Protestants (Presbyterians, Lutherans, Methodists, etc.) alike will enjoy this book as we celebrate Advent.
