Finally! A doctor who "gets it"!!.......2007-04-11
This thought provoking book gives hope to all who read it and follow Dr. Randolph's advice. I'm coming out of the "fog" because of his advice!
Catchy title, but..........2007-03-13
You'd think with a title like Hormone Hell, there'd be a revelation inside the book, especially being published rather recently. There's no revelation. This is all old news. And there are better books that address the subject. If you haven't done your research yet on hormones and BHRT, this would be a good place to start, but again...better books abound. Dr. Randolph is also pushing his own progesterone cream...go figure.
My Experience with Bio-Identical Hormones.......2007-02-14
First, let me say with much chagrin that I have never read the above book. I gave it 5 stars because I did not want to downgrade its rating if I hadn't read it. That being said, I have some really good info to share with those thinking of going down the bio-identical path, and I'm hoping Amazon is ok with this. I started on pharmaceutical hormones when I was 2 years into menopause. First I took pills, then I went on the patch. I took both estrogen and progesterone. I was having about 5 hot flashes an hour, couldn't sleep well, and was losing bladder control (I've exercised strenuously my whole life and this was a shock for me. I had my kids thru Csection, so that wasn't it). The pills worked (no more bladder problems), but I had breakthru bleeding and I was hoping to find something better. The patch was an improvement because the skin delivery system bypasses the liver (I was told). Thru reading books like this one, I came across a doctor who is the head of the ob/gyn dept. at Vanderbilt Hospital in Tennessee who developed his own delivery system of bio-identical hormones in DROPS. He also throws testosterone into the drops if a blood test shows that you need it. His name is Dr. Joel Hargrove and he will work with your own personal physician to get the proper dosage worked out. I found him in the book The Wisdom of Menopause by Christiane Northrup, MD, which I'm sure Amazon sells (look in the resource section in the back, chapter 5). I'd give you the lab's telephone #, but I don't think that Amazon allows that. I love the drops. I can take a minimum amount because if I take too little I get hot flashes, and if I take too much I get breakthru bleeding. I only need to take one drop a day. It's not covered by my medical plan (the dolts!), but it's cheaper than my co-pays would be. And the testosterone is great! Once I started on that, my sex drive came back and my hair, which had been getting very thin, filled out again. I had to look around a bit to find a doctor who was "with it" enough to help me.
Every woman 30+ should read this. .......2007-02-01
A must read for all women and anyone who cares about women.
Hormones.....well?.......2007-01-12
The book gave detailed info on the effects of menopause and perimenopause. The concept is interesting but more studies and research are needed before you blindly jump on the bandwagon and starting taking bioidentical hormones. If taking pharmaceutical hormones elevates your risk of breast cancer then taking any extra hormones could be equally harmful. Both the pharmaceutical companies and 'natural'health companies make lots of money, so one pointing the finger at the other is laughable. At least the pharmaceutical companies are regulated. The book is a good source of information on menopause though and for that the money is well spent.

A Friend When You NEED One.......2007-03-01
I found this book after my surgery. Prior to taking my short term leave from work, I had spent almost 2 months talking with several friends and co-workers about the upcoming hysterectomy...They all had plenty to say about their issues before the surgery and the outcome(6-8 weeks later)...What they NEGLECTED to mention was the ALL IMPORTANT RECOVERY. While this book is not medical advice...it is a wonderful support group...and there is a website to follow that covers a plethora of info, topics, forums, discussions and opportunity to meet great women who have "been there" or are experiencing the same issues. This book is WONDERFUL mental therapy!!! Well worth the read and price...would make a wonderful gift for a friend after surgery!!!
Silly, but good info.......2007-01-03
The information inside is well worth overlooking any flaws in writing or the silly "fairy tale" style. Any woman going through the turmoil associated with a hysterectomy needs to read this book.
hyst or miss.......2006-07-09
A good book if you need to feel pampered, can be annoying if you are looking for real info, and have to read through fantasy stories of pillow police and kings to get to the info. Leads you to a wonderful website where real info and follow up emails of expectations and week by week progress. Not a difficult to read reference. I highly recommend this for the "just after discharge" reading. But, you will need more substance for deep questions on hormones etc.
Just What She Needed.......2006-02-28
Very light hearted, positive, tales of the before and after Hyst experience. Good for both him and her.
Good Inside Information.......2005-10-30
I found this book filled with information that I've not found anywhere else. Its format is a mix of reproduced emails, question and answers by a variety of people addressing the same question, and short pieces on a great many topics.
The book is short, easy to read, and very light, although it does touch on heavy subjects, such as hormones gone awry after surgery and what to do about it. It also talks about things that always happen but no one ever seems to address in books or even in conversation. For example, one woman mentions that she smelled an odd scent coming from her body after surgery and wondered if anyone else had experienced this. Several people responded with a resounding "yes!" A few had been ignored by hosital staff and doctors, but a couple others had been told it was from the anasthesia administered at surgery. Tbe book explains these little oddities and can put one's mind at ease.
Small topics like these are addressed throughout the book and give a clear picture of what to expect. One topic I found particularly helpful was the focus on the swelling stomach, aka "swelly belly." I've read little about this topic in other books, but apparently it's quite a problem for the women after surgery. Many good ideas and tips to help with "swelly belly" are offered. The whole book is like this, and I find it is worth every penny I spent on this short little book.
I gave it four stars because like another reviewer, I found some of the writing silly. Although it was jammed full of excellent information, the delivery at times felt, well, a bit too sappy, even for me, a person who appreicates humor. I know a lot of people like it, and I, too, like the idea of going to the Castle and calling one's self a "punctured princess." However, some of it just went a bit too far. I believe it's important to be able to laugh and to create an image of being a princess, so when we're being wheeled down the hall on a gurney into the operating room, it will give us courage, so I liked the lightheartedness, but at times it made me squirm reading it. Still, worth every penny even if I had to wade quickly through a few passages.
I still recommend the book highly for information that you won't find anywhere else...[...]!

In clear, conversational language, Dr. Lauren Streicher discusses everything a woman needs to know to make informed choices about this often-controversial subject, including emotions and sex after surgery, hormone replacement, and much more.
Customer Reviews:
a great resource.......2007-06-05
this is the book to read if you are having (or have had) a hysterectomy and don't want to be preached at or told that you are making a mistake, as so many books out there do.
clear and understandable writing, very informative without too much jargon. covers all the angles, from diagnosis to recovery and beyond.
even if you think you know everything or close to it, this is an invaluable resource.
evaluating a difficult decision.......2007-05-12
Hysterectomy is a controversial subject, and any woman considering this procedure will have a very difficult time finding a non-biased source of information on the web. Books written in the 70's or 80's are still very prevalent and filled with outdated information, or treat hysterectomy as a feminist issue.
Any elective surgery should be given careful consideration, and indeed, MOST hysterectomies are not performed for live-threatening issues, but for quality of life. I have read about a dozen books before finding this one, and feel it is unquestionably the most thorough, most comprehensive book available.
Any woman facing hysterectomy will find this book helpful in understanding the evolution of this surgery, what it can and cannot do, and the important issues she should consider discussing with her surgeon before she schedules the surgery.
explains everything in simple english very easy read. .......2007-05-12
this book explains everything simply. the titles to each sections helps you look for what pertains to you. then you can go back and read other sections. a lot of advice gaged by your symtoms.explains all surgeries how they are done in layman's terms, so that you can be in on the chooses of treatments(instead of surgery)and the symptoms of said treatments, or like my situation knowing i would need surgery since my symtoms were more than i wanted to deal with. i chose laposcopic surgey for removing ovaries, uteras, follobian tubes. i also had 2 cyst and a fibroid tumor in uteras, all removed laproscopically with removal of cervix thru vaginal. only have 3-1" cuts. can not even feel were they removed cervix vaginally. then much advice after surgey.book is full of humor. my husband even picked up the book and read much of it and enjoyed the book and learned about sugery would be like and recovery for both husband and wife. also explains how there is life for you and your mate afterwards. book is enjoyable to read, informative can help calm you down and help you make right decisions and right doctors to choose..based on what you need and want.and just enough humor thrown in to make it a good read.you'll be happy you bought it. and you dont have to be a medical student to understand what is written.
The BEST book on the subject.......2007-05-12
What a great book to read when facing such a scary thing in a woman's life. This book is indispensable, and very interesting. I can't say enough good things about it. Skip the rest, as they are preachy and mostly outdated hoo hah. This should be required reading of every GYN and woman contemplating having this surgery.
Just what you need to know before the surgery.......2007-05-07
This book is written based on one physician's practice, so advise from your own physician may differ in some of the details and recommendations, as I found. Explanations were clear and a broad range of topics were covered, including assessments of treatment options other than hysterectomy, different types of hysterectomies, what to expect before, after surgery, potential complications, and what you, the patient, can do to make the experience go as smoothly as possible. Really helps give perspective and made my expectations more realistic, going a long way to reassuring me that I had made the right decision.
Book Description
It took surgery for former newspaper reporter, Patti Pfeiffer, to turn author. It was during her own recovery from a hysterectomy that she wrote this enlightening and entertaining book detailing her experiences with endometriosis, laser surgery, laparoscopy, vaginal hysterectomy, surgical menopause, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and gynecologists. Through chapters titled "Hystery in the Making" and "The Long Gurney Home", readers gain insight into the emotional, physical and mental aspects of surgery, preoperative to postoperative. But more than surgery, "Bearing the Big H" is about the peaks, perks and pitfalls of womanhood.
Any woman whether healthy or hindered will relate to the satirical stories describing the experiences exclusive to the childbearing gender. If you have personally shared the author's experiences, or know someone who has had, or is about to undergo a hysterectomy, this book is priceless, upbeat, hilarious - and required reading!
Customer Reviews:
Learned alot while laughing.......2007-03-16
This book was wonderful. Not everything applied to my situtation but it was very helpful in knowing what to expect. There were even some great tips that I shared with my husband. We even had some interesting chats regarding specifics of the book.
What Nobody Talks About.......2004-11-04
As a retired nurse, I think the vast number of women who undergo removal of their uterus are usually well informed of the surgical procedure, the possible risks, and anatomical changes, but only a rare few are prepared for the hormonal frenzy that follows. Patti Pfeiffer's humorous--and sometimes heartbreaking--account of her surgery and the weeks that followed is a must read, not only for those who have had, or will have, a hysterectomy but for their spouses, too. Even those not involved in this medical dilemma will be amused by Ms. Pfeiffer's journey.
Bearing the Big H.......2004-10-30
My wife and I purchased "Bearing the Big H", at one of Pattis' book signings. I was the first to read it. I was pleasently surprised and read it in a couple of nights. The " big H", is not something a man is normally knowledgeable about but it can drastically affect your relationship with loved ones. Ignorance is defenitely not bliss. My review? I've decided to purchase additional books for my parents(in their 80's), sister, and brother for Christmas gifts. Loved the book Patti!
LAUGH 'TIL YOU CRY!.......2004-10-28
Wanna laugh?..READ THIS BOOK! Wanna cry?.....READ THIS BOOK!
This author's wit and humor are both hilarious and heart tugging! This is not a medical journal on Hysterectomy, this is a very real and funny account of a very real and funny woman's journey through the BIG H. Laugh at her, laugh at yourself, but READ IT and be encouraged. Honest feelings and earthy humor make this book a delight!
Hysterical Hysterectomy.......2004-10-26
This book was both entertaining and enlightening! I would wholeheartedly recommend it for anyone facing the surgery, or anyone who just wants a good Venus/Mars laugh!

Book Description
Fibroid tumors are the leading reason why more than 500,000 American women have hysterectomies each year. Fibroids are benign tumors that arise from the smooth muscle layer of the uterus. As they grow larger, they can put pressure on neighboring organs and tissues, causing pain, bleeding, and fertility problems in many women. Unfortunately, many women are not informed of their full treatment options by their physicians. At last, leading experts in the field explain preventive strategies and treatment choices. This book takes readers step-by-step, detailing what every woman needs to know and describing up-to-date medical treatment options, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Customer Reviews:
Unbiased and Thorough Coverage of Therapies.......2007-02-21
I was amazed at the vast amount of information in this book and the unbiased way in which it was presented. It covered all types of therapies whether nutritional, medical or alternative and did so indicating which ones were backed up by studies and whether the studies were done in a scientific manner or not. It was very, very helpful.
What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibroids: New Techniques and Therapies--Including Breakthrough Alternatives to Hysterect.......2006-07-16
This is an excellent book with great information for women searching for options in dealing with fibroid tumors. Easy to read and understand.
The best book on fibroids I have read.......2005-06-14
This is the most comprehensive book on fibroids that I have read. It explains the different types, enumerates other conditions that may be confused for fibroids, details diagnosis techniques. It then thoroughly explores each treatment option currently available--and it is up-to-date, as opposed to another book I purchased which was so out of date it didn't even mention Uterine Artery Embolization. It gives statistics on the successes and complications from each treatment, and also suggests questions to ask your doctor and qualifications he/she should have. It assumes that you are intelligent enough to make up your own mind about what treatment you want and does not "sell" one over any other. It is just so refreshing!
I recommend it to anyone who is trying to get through the maze of confusing information about fibroids.
Up To Date Doctors Get Along and Offer Comprehensive Advice.......2003-04-23
Knowledge about fibroids and available treatment options has been changing rather rapidly. This book is clearly the most accurate and up to date at the present time (2003). In a changing field, accurate and up-to-date are critically important. That alone, makes Goodwin/Broder a must-read for any woman dealing with fibroids.
This book is well documented, giving citations chapter by chapter - so the reader has some idea what information came from which sources, and can refer to those sources should she wish.
It is very heartening to see an Interventional Radiologist (Goodwin) and a Gynecologist (Broder) COOPERATING to provide COMPLETE information about fibroids in ONE book. Too frequently, these two branches of medicine appear to be competing with one another, even trying to discredit one another, on issues relating to fibroids and treatment of fibroids. There are treatments for fibroids which involve each of these doctor's specializations. Together these two authors make it possible for women to consider the options based on the knowledge of doctors who support what is best for the PATIENT rather than what is best for the individual doctor's ego or pocketbook. This book does that and does it splendidly well. Broder and Goodwin together set out both the pluses and minuses of the various available treatments and what's appropriate when - regardless of whose specialty each treatment lies within.
The authors even cover what's known about treatments of the future including some currently in clinical trials. Goodwin and Broder also discuss lifestyle changes, suggest ways to implement some of them, and what effects one might or might not realistically expect from such changes. The book is rational rather than emotional.
Although this book is written by doctors, it is clear, concise, easy to comprehend and complete. It is not preachy. It does not talk down to the reader. These authors understand their audience and are able to effectively communicate needed information.
A GREAT READ.......2003-04-23
This is an informative, easy to read book which reveals important information we need to know. It puts the fear we may have into perspective and was very helpful.

Book Description
While more than 600,000 hysterectomies are performed each year in the United States, 90 percent of them are unwarranted. This vital health guide offers women the information they need to empower themselves in making critical health decisions. For example, surgery can often do more harm than good and may pose needless risks, except in situations involving a life-threatening illness such as cancer. However, surgeons often rely on hysterectomies as a panacea for everything from premenstrual syndrome to uterine fibroids. An important step in bridging the communication gap between patient and physician are the specific questions in this book for women to ask their doctors. Included is information about various gynecological conditions with suggestions for alternative treatments, such as endometriosis, uterine prolapse, ovarian cysts, and precancerous conditions.
Customer Reviews:
Better than I expected.......2006-03-03
I thought that I knew what the downsides of hysterectomy could be since so many of my friends have had to submit to one and I've done some reading here and there. But I learned a great deal more from this book. The title sounds a little alarmist, but the actual writeup is very thoughtful and well-supported information.
Finally, a physician who is on a woman's side.......2004-09-14
Read this book before you agree to having a hysterectomy. I have had two doctors recommend that I undergo hysterectomy. I refuse. A woman's uterus is her vital female organ, and there is no reason to have it removed unless there is cancer present. Find a physician who is skilled at performing myomectomies, or consider embolization, but don't let them cut out your uterus. Dr. West gives clear, eye-opening information, and much detail to allow a woman to make an informed decision. Dr. West also gives important information about the after-effects of having a hysterectomy. This is one of the most important books that a woman will ever read.
Book Description
This invaluable book provides all the essential information, support and advice that will help to make your hysterectomy a happy one. Full of really useful information such as: advice and suggestions to help make your recovery quicker and easier practical tips to help you cope with each stage of recovery when to think about driving, flying and getting back to work what you should, and shouldn't be doing at any given time fantastic, healthy recipes for healing the body and managing the menopause complementary therapies, supplements and remedies you can try which have been shown to help your body heal itself what you can do to help ensure your long term health There is even more information on deciding whether to take HRT or not; if you should have your ovaries and cervix removed; the various exercises you can do at different stages; dealing with the more embarrasing aspects of surgery like painful wind; coping with the boredom of recovery and generally getting your life back to normal.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent help........2007-03-09
This book provides very good information for someone going through the hysterectomy. I recommend ordering it before the surgery, because there are so many helpful hints for the hospital and dealing with the whole situation. I ordered it after the surgery and found almost all of the information that the health care providers gave me while I was going through the events. It was still helpful. There were only some very slight differences, which I assume is based on the fact that I am in the U.S. and the book was written in a different country. All in all, this book is a great reference and provides comfort for anyone having a hysterectomy.
Brilliant book, full of practical information.......2006-07-29
I bought Linda's book when my wife was told she might need a hysterectomy for fibroids. I thought it would help her to manage the op and beyond, what I didn't realise was how much it would help me as well to look at ways I could support her while she recovered. It is full of the best suggestions and even helps you identify extra info you might need and questions to ask. I'd strongly recommend it, even though I am related to the author!
Book Description
Combining personal stories of women's surgical experiences with the most recent medical data, this book offers a unique exploration into the issues surrounding hysterectomy, ovary removal, and hormone replacement. This book provides much needed information to clarify the confusion around HRT since the WHI study was released in July 2002. Women do not need to suffer needlessly.
Customer Reviews:
Wish I had it sooner.......2006-09-01
Just like my title, I wish I had found this book before my hysterectomy, but it was still a great find afterwards. It gave me knowledge about how the body works in relation to the different hormones produced by the ovaries and the blood; whereas lack of hormones can result in stroke, heart attack, weight gain, osteoporosis, sexual dissatisfaction, depression, and more. I was very prepared to talk to my doctor about HRT after reading this.
Me thinks...........2006-03-31
Me thinks thou protests too much, GYNECOLOGIST.
As one who has experienced years of painful periods due to endo, I finally had a hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy at age 45. I would gladly go back to that. At least I knew what to expect every month--pain. Since the hysterectomy my health has gotten WORSE, not better. I never knew that there were consequences of hysterectomy accept loss of periods. Had I known what was in this book, had I read it beforehand, I might have made a different choice. No doctor ever gave me a balanced view of what a hysterectomy might do. Women must be given adequate information in order to make intelligent choices.
Not Afraid of the Truth.......2006-03-30
The review below by a gynecologist simply proves Ms. Plourde's point: with little or no honesty from the medical profession, a woman is left to fend for herself when there are problems. Plourde points out that removal of ANY "female" organs affects them all, and the other body systems as well. I was a victim of this surgery, believing my doctors and continuing for many months to believe that the attendant shut-downs of other systems (notably thyroid) and development of other illnesses (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome) were unrelated.
Plourde's book is not negative, but honest. EVERY woman considering a hysterectomy should read this book!
MUST read for ALL women.......2006-03-29
This book contains a wealth of information that every woman should know, women contemplating hysterectomy or oophorectomy AND women who have undergone either or both surgeries. I completely disagree with earlier post about "scaring" women unnecessarily- the information in this book is real, solid and based on the most current medical research out there.
As a woman who underwent a completely unnecessary hysterectomy and oophorectomy based on a misdiagnosis from an outdated doctor, I cannot stress enough, the importance of being fully informed of all possible consequences before consenting to any kind of surgery.
I myself have suffered horrendous side effects, some of them life threatening and all of them life altering. My quality of life has been significantly impacted and I am certain that had I read this book before my surgery, I would not be in the position I am now.
For several years after my surgery, I was passed from one doctor to another who seemed to share the same opinions of the doctor who reviewed earlier. Then I read this wonderful book (and also "The Hysterectomy Hoax" by Dr. Stanley West) and began my quest to find more enlightened doctors.
My quest ended with wonderful, world renowned doctors who totally validated the information in this book and have done their best to help me recover as much as possible from the harm that came to me from outdated, misinformed, medical practices that are, unfortunately the "standard level of care" in the USA. (Hopefully, as the truth is brought out into the open, this will change.)
What happened to me is NOT rare, it is much more common than we are led to believe and the chances of this happening to you or a woman you love is very high. Therefore, I would put this book at the TOP of my reading list for all women.
As for the comment about the "mind/body connection"...
I couldn't agree more. But in order for the mind to connect with the body, it needs the neuro transmitters to work, and those need chemicals from the body. ALL the chemicals (hormones) from ALL of the body! If you read the book, you will understand this connection.
This is NOT a guide..this is misinformation.......2006-03-08
Ms. Plourde underwent what she feels(and what may have been) was an unnecessary hysterectomy. Her book is essentially a one sided angry monologue against the procedure. She even has a chapter titled " Yes, You CAN DIE from the Surgery! "This book does not present information in an unbiased scientific way and is full of misinformation. Most of her problems were due to removal of her OVARIES, not her uterus, and her difficultiues with finding a physician who knew how to manage her hormonal deficiency. Her problems had nothing to do with removal of her uterus. She doesn't acknowledge that many women suffer a great deal from problems that are solved by hysterectomy and that many women benefit from the surgery. She of course gives no alternatives to surgery, but instead needlessly frightens women who have had surgery or need surgery. This is a book that should be avoided by all women who are trying to empower themselves with real information that is balanced and scientific so they can make an educated choice.
Ms. Plourdes goal seems to be to convince women that hysterectomy is always unnecessary and is inevitably a negative, life altering procedure.
Book Description
so you're having a hysterectomy
If you've been informed that you need a hysterectomy, this book is for you. Step by step, test by test, decision by decision, you'll know what to expect and what your choices are. And if you do decide to go ahead, what type of hysterectomy procedure is right for you? From diagnosis to recovery, So You're Having a Hysterectomy is the ultimate guide for women facing this controversial surgery. Balanced, accurate information, real-life patient stories, and detailed illustrations give you the inside story on each medical procedure, while extensive self-help sections give you the power to find your own personal road to wellness—whatever you decide.
"Been there, done that, does not an expert make. Event though I have had a hysterectomy and am a sex educator/counselor, I still learned a great deal about hysterectomy from this book. Highly recommended reading."
—Sue Hohanson, RN CM, sex educator/counselor and host of the Sunday Night Sex Show

Great balanced guide.......2005-04-21
I picked this book up at the library and am considering buying a copy, even though my surgery is scheduled for just a week from now. It is a great guide to what will happen, what questions to ask, how to prepare, etc., etc., etc. I'm on my second reading now and will probably read it again. Definitely worth the $10 or so price tag in my opinion.
Helpful, fairly up-to-date, unbiased. .......2005-01-09
Less biased than some books on the subject. Discusses hysterectomies and less-drastic alternative treatments, including the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of each. Discusses different methods of hysterectomy -- vaginal, abdominal, and laproscopic, and includes the advantages, disadvantages, and limitations of each method. Some hysterectomy books do not mention the newer all-laproscopic method of hysterectomy, but this gives it good coverage. Also pros and cons of what to include in the hysterectomy, especially ovaries which have a major impact. Includes an in-depth discussion of what to expect after hysterectomy.
Helpful book.......2004-02-11
I found this book clear, concise and very helpful. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that once again, despite it's title, it includes alternatives to hysterectomy. For those of us who have already made the decision out of necessity, I find that annoying.

GRATEFUL EX-PATIENT OF DR.HUFNAGEL.......2000-09-06
In November of 1997 I was hospitalized for a week with abdominal pain. Hospital tests showed a heterogeneous mass on my left side. Seven doctors from the gynecological group I had always gone to in Mineola, NY, decided exploratory surgery was needed and also most likely a hysterectomy; I REFUSED! I walked out of the hospital in pain, at the threat of death and with surgery scheduled for the next day! I had the courage to walk out - I had Dr. Hufnagel's book inside the drawer of my night table at the hospital and had been in contact with her that week! At 34 years old I wanted to keep ALL MY ORGANS and keeping the option of having children!
I first became aware of Dr. Hufnagel through her legal woes with the NY state medical system. I paid a visit to her NY office. She provided me with the BEST INTERNAL EXAMINATION, the most attention, careful, detailed, empowering and informed consultation I had ever had with any kind of doctor. Unfortunately, she lost that battle with the NY legal system! She wasn't able to do my operation at the time I needed it. But, I am still in contact with her and will be visiting her on my next trip to California.
Before my operation, I was diagnosed with endometriosis, an endometrioma on the left ovary and possibly first-stage ovarian cancer. I ended up having a "laparoscopic operation" by Dr. Harry Reich (570) 674-2256, whom she mentions in the book, and who is SUPERB!
Dr. Hufnagel WAS MY CONNECTION! I STILL HAVE ALL MY ORGANS BECAUSE OF THE KNOWLEDGEABLE OPTIONS AND FACTS SHE PROVIDED ME WITH. SHE HAD THE COURAGE TO STAND AND INFORM WOMEN OF WHAT IS RIGHT, AND, OF COURSE, PAID THE PRICE FOR IT! MY LIFE LONG THANKS TO HER!
Just the facts.......1999-12-19
This book made a lot of sense to me and my wife as we have tried to negotiate the maze about hysterectomies. It seems that many AMA license doctors are quick to take insurance money and make snap decisions that are not supported by the findings of the diagnostic tools we paid for.
It is important for every one to take responsibility for their own health. Become an educated consumer and make your OB/GYN answer your questions to YOUR satisfaction. REMEMBER, they work for you. If they can't explain it, then THEY, the OB/GYN probably does not understand it.
As for losing ones license. That is a serious offense. But it makes me wonder when people write reviews who attack the author (personally), is it because they cannot attack the content of the book.
I appreciate their comments, because it prompted me further investigate and gain more information. Something I am sure they did not want.
So, next time. Leave personal vendetta's out of this and focus on the book.
Hufnagel's Following "Review" Reveals Her Sensibility.......1999-06-05
The following "review" by Hufnagel (the author) demonstrates her poor clarity of thought, unprofessionalism, and apparent inability to dicipher the purpose of this customer-review service. This is Hufnagel's thought process unedited and without the guidance of a co-author. Nonsensical.
Update ....and Truth.......1999-05-27
I won the civil case against me. The Superior Court refused to take judical notice that the woman Rama Haggerty "lied " in the adminstrative law hearing that "I refused to do a hysterectomy". The reality and verdict was 12/0 my favor for Dr. Hufnagel. Rama lied and no prejury charges were filed by the State. Also Dr.Parks withheld documents from the court. lied and no prejury charges were filed by the state..because they were the states witnesses. I had the case reviewed by the Office of the Inspector General who found my care in the cases to be above the standard of care and who gave me previlages to operate in the US Military..I did and save a major from a hysterectomy. Those that claim I did wrong obviously no nothing about the case. I will be soon on line exposing it all in Behind the Ivory Towers. For example my revocation was signed by Judge Yaffe who had to cross out he reviewed my entire case before the revocation. Yaffee read to transcripts of experts including the Parks who lied on under oath and Mason who told the court that orgasm was in a woman's mind,,,and that the uterus had nothing to do with female sexuality...Yaffe only read their first days of testimoney and not the cross exam and revoked my med lis and read nothing else....please there was volumes of testimoney, and evidence and Yafee never looked at any of it. Fair..Justice...please. I am the only MD to write informed consent laws for women..and the only one to volunteer and wrote the USA Stats on Hyeterectomy, and the only private surgeon to save a women in the Army. I will expose everything soon on my new interactive web site www.nomorehysterectomies.com and as for vitamins I did not have a line...but I will have one and I will continue my work to change women's medicine...it did nt kill me attacking me so I am stronger and I will continue to speak out for women...Your Vicki Hufnagel MD
THIS IS A MUST READ FOR ALL WOMEM.......1999-04-25
I highly recommend that every womam, past puberty, read this book. They need to be educated about this option -- and it needs to be taught -- by her, in medical schools all over the world.
Visit her web site to read current testimonies about this surgical procedure (FRS) that she developed.
