I checked this out from my local library to see if I could find ideas for helping my daughter with her wedding. I had NO IDEA you could get so many bridal bargains on eBay. For example, we were going to make her veil, to save the $150 a veil usually costs. On eBay, we can get the same veil for about $25. There are also great ideas for saving money in other ways -- inexpensive ways to decorate your reception, ideas for bridal party gifts, and more. This is the best wedding planning book I have read. Hogan's previous book with her spouse, Intellectual Foreplay, is reference in this book often. In fact, I suspect that readers would get the most from this book if they read the previous one. Virtual Foreplay is a very simple guidebook to the Internet and the various resources available to find a partner. Hogan clearly believes that face-to-face encounters are superior to online ones so if you were looking for a guide to getting cyberlaid this won't do the job. A word of caution: anything about the Internet or the Web can get outdated quickly in terms of addresses and sites so don't be surprised if you can't find the same sites she does. Overall the advice is very sound but the book is really for those with questions about dating, finding a partner, and learning the Internet. For anyone else, its not very useful.

I'm a beginner at the "art" of dating on the Web, and felt that any insights would be of value before starting the "journey". I found Eve Hogan's book, "Virtual Foreplay", to be a great resource in understanding the process, and how to to proceed with the best opportunity for success in making contact with, and maintaining connection with my "soulmate" (who's out there, waing for me to find her). It also provides a comprehensive collection of "tools" that address the questions and answers that must be considered before starting any search for a potential "significant other". This is currently the best book on the topic of online love searching tools and advice especially for people without special needs which I know is the smaller percentage of those possibly online love searching. But, the books on this topic need major improvement. I will write more of a review latter but this author is connected also 2 more online supports for you on this topic. Through other paid merchandise and love coaching and such. You can find this advice mostly on certain sites for free like e-harmony, chemistry, match, the relationship exchange, and yahoo personals. Or you could easily learn it for yourself using any/some of these sites!

This book is of incredible value to anyone who desires to meet the person of their dreams online. It is easy to read and full of priceless information as well as powerful insights and exercises. In addition to being straightforward and containing simple, easy to follow "how to" steps, it also has lots of enlightening suggestions and anecdotes.
I wish it had been offered to me before I embarked on "e-dating." In addition to saving me a lot of time, money, disappointment, and disillusionment, I certainly would have had a lot more fun and undoubtably would have been much more successful.
Like anything else it takes some work to implement all of the author's suggestions and get the full value that is intended and available. On the other hand, the book offers suggestions that would even have great value to people who meet offline or those who only take the time to read parts of it. The author also does a very good job off addressing the distinct and, at times, vastly differing perspectives and experiences of women and men.
Additionally, the author offers a website that can be used in conjunction with the book, which I find to be a useful ongoing and continually updated resource.
This book fills superbly what appeared to be a huge gap in the marketplace of "e-dating" information.

Jan LaRue is one of the most narrow-minded, accusatory, and ugly (I mean on the inside) women I've ever heard speak (or read) and you'd be better off following the guidance of someone who truly cares about your children, not just about her own narrow agenda.
Deep Christian Overtones.......2003-12-12
York and LaRue's book presented interesting arguements of reasons to protect children in the so-called "X-Rated World". However, the book also shared opinions and social commentary with serious religious biases. It was difficult to concentrate on the topic when the authors often digress onto religious topics of which I do not agree. The authors address the issue of premarital sex and homosexuality with complete intolerance for those of alternative lifestyles. When they accused Planned Parenthood of "promoting traditional-values-free sex for teens" and of having a "radical agenda" I grew frustrated and abandoned the book. The authors, while presenting accurate information about the pervasiveness and danger of children accessing information via the Internet, they also presented their own "radical agenda"s with Christian biases and promoting wholly the intolerance of homosexuals.
Parents - pay Attention!!!.......2002-09-27
This book has practical helps for parents to teach children about sex from God's point of view. Pornography violates that, and parents need to know how pervasive pornography is: sex-ed materials in public schools, dial-a-porn, the Internet, magazines, comic books, videos. If children don't learn about good sex from their parents, they'll learn about bad sex somewhere else. Highly recommended!!!
Should be Required Reading for Parents.......2002-07-16
A better parental handbook will be hard to find. The authors have drawn from their own life experiences and decades of professional involvement to produce a volume that should be required reading for every parent.
Protecting Your Child sounds the alarm on an issue that should be alarming to every parent. The authors point out that there has been a 500% increase in rape over the 19-year period from 1980 to 1999, the decades during which the U. S. porn industry grew from a $4 billion annual business to a $10 billion dollar business. Worldwide, it is estimated that pornographers profit $56 billion a year.
York and LaRue document countless law enforcement records that tie pornography to sex offenses. Other disturbing statistics add to the cause for concern. For example, the authors write, "A report in the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1993 noted that nearly half of the nation's child molesters were children. In addition, in 1983 there were only 22 juvenile sex offender programs nationwide; in 1993 that number had grown to 755. Today there are more than 1,200."
Readers should not overwhelmed by the barrage of statistics and tragic stories told in the opening pages. LaRue and York always provide an antidote including concrete steps for action.
Both authors are honest and straightforward in sharing how they were themselves victims of pornography at a young age.
"I am fighting pornography for the sake of our nation's children who are becoming the primary consumers of pornography," says LaRue. The book documents how children are, indeed, being exposed to hard-core pornography at younger and younger ages.
York was first exposed to pornography as an 11-year-old in 1955 when a local drugstore began carrying the brand new Playboy magazine. "Pornography was not widely accessible in those days," he says, "or I might have become a seriously addicted child." Today York is editorial director of Traditional Values Coalition.
In Part 1, York and LaRue detail why pornography is a danger to families, then take a look at its pervasiveness. They illustrate how it has infiltrated even our homes, public schools and libraries largely via the Internet.
Part 2 gives practical responses for the challenge to stop pornography from destroying our children and communities. The chapters on how to keep it out of your home, and how to help the child who has already been exposed to porn are invaluable resources for parents.
Protecting Your Child may paint a scary picture of the present, but it also offers a vision of hope for the future.

Regina Lynn does what so few manage to do: explain the basics about online sexuality without throwing her readers into a panic. Lynn provides a landscape of some of the ways that the Internet can *enhance* one's sexuality and sex life while most other books instill fear about this phenomenon in the average person. Sure, people become addicted to cybersex; people also become addicted to Twinkies. But most people are able to eat their Hostess products in moderation. And most people who choose to engage in online sexual activities -- or at least explore their options -- will do so to improve an in-person relationship, or use it to explore an aspect of their sexual identity they want to "try on" in a safer environment. Lynn writes with the notion that most people are simply curious about sex and the Internet as she paves the way for people to learn how the virtual world can improve their romances ans sex lives in the physical one. Regina Lynn's book starts with an interesting and believable thesis ... that a new technology (the internet) has caused as much of a change in contemporary sexual patterns and practices as another new technology (the pill and other means of effective birth control) did a generation earlier.
As the Sex/Tech editor for Wired Magazine (in itself a respected distribution point for information about things new and technical), Ms. Lynn is in an almost unique position to keep up with the latest in this field. She brings much of this expertise to bear in this book.
With chapters dealing with everything from meeting people on line to women's access to pornography, she covers many aspects of the intersection of these two domains ... one ancient and one as modern as can be. Computers make possible powerful searches, which can bring people "together" who probably never could have met by chance in an earlier era. I am regular guy who is shy so the thought of trying to
pick up a girl in a club doesn't work for me but the angle of this approach does since I know a lot about computers.
Most girls find that boring but this book teaches how to use that
knowledge and present it as a way for the girl to become interested in me.
I didn't know I had something they wanted besides money.
The rules about strippers and women in general made sense to me
and explains them in simple language.
It lays out a step by step approach to using computer skills as a means to have sex
with practically any girl in or out the sex industry;stripper,escort,porn star and regular girl.
It not only lays out a step by step approach but tailors it to each catagory.
I have been going to strip bars and porn conventions and always thought I could never have sex with one of them.
This book showed me how I could.
I would recommend this book to anyone that could use a new approach or has had a curiosity about strippers and porn.

I bought this 2-3 years ago, when I was looking for a partner. Well I found one online, but not really because of this book. It is America-centric and a little too in-depth about the author's own dating experiences .. that no-one in their right mind would want to replicate. However I found that "Charting your Partner" section to be helpful as you find the traits you really want.
Don't forget to read Chapter 6 about asking questions. But if you're serious about meeting the right partner, you'll never know what they are truly like by email - you've really got to meet up fairly soon in the process - something I learnt talking to others about it.
There is some sound advice in this book, just skim the fluff till you find it.

This man obviously thinks he is quite the catch. I find his advice to be dull to the point of fossilized. Don't waste your time, get Online Dating for Dummies instead.

What questions? The questions you ask when you first get a reply from someone. Only a paragraph each when it could be a chapter each. Now, I am still scratching my head wondering what questions to ask anyone...

You just can't get more "how-to" than this! So many people just put their profile up without a thought to what they are doing, and then they are disappointed that they can't find anyone. Fagan is now married to his soulmate whom he found online after many trials and errors. Fortunately for us, he shares with us both his mistakes and his successes, so we don't have to waste so much time and effort in finding ours! The book is interspersed with quotes from many soulmate searchers, examples on what to write in your profile and subsequent e-mails, and soul-searching questionnaires to discover what you are truly looking for in a mate. If you're just playing around then don't waste your money. But if you are seriously hoping to find a mate online, buy this book immediately!

After reading the last review from the man in Australia, I felt compelled to write my own review. I read the book from cover to cover and learned a great deal. It is a little dry in some places, but then again, what how-to book isn't. Overall, I'd strongly recommend this book because it gives MEAT rather than just fluff-for the person who really wants to find out how to do it right. Not many people have experience finding love on the Internet and with all the freaks out there, this book is better than any I've read on how to find a good, healthy partner and avoiding all the pit falls while doing so.

Ralph covered how to run (any) software package, and how to connect to the internet. He also reviewed, in depth, Family Tree Maker, the only genealogy software he seems to be familiar with. If you don't know much about the internet or computers, this book will be helpful.
However, most of us are familiar with both (Hey, we're on Amazon.com, aren't we?), so more than half the book is wasted. There are about ten pages of weblinks which can be had simply by going to a decent search engine, like Yahoo!. Spend your money on another genealogy book.

I guess if you know nothing or little about PCs and/or the internet this book might be for you. The author seems to fill up the book by writing about areas that really have nothing to do with Geneaology. There are finally a few pages that provide Geneaology links on the internet and most of these links are no longer valid. Those that are valid, one may find on your own using any of the usual search engines.

I have read several books about performing genealogy research on line, but this book is by far the best! It gives you hits, tips, software reviews, and, best of all, LOTS of links to genealogy sites on the WWW. This books is definitely worth its modest price for anyone who is, or is considering, performing genealogical research.
