Informational but Dry.......2007-06-11
I am a grad student studying addictions and this book is one we follow. This author is very informed about how systems go into place around addictions and how systems cope. My only problem is that the book is very almost scientific in its composure-I hope the author can have fun writing his very well researched books.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent subject matter coverage.......1999-08-05
This book should be a must read for all med students as well as clinicians. It provides an unusually precise and clear link between what often appears as "common" symptoms and previously un-discussed causes such as food related chemicals, pesticides, chemical exposures, organic solvents and metals. Having seen many antidotal references in the pop literature to these issues, it is good to finally see an authoritative scientific text on the subject.
Book Description
Abadinsky explores all aspects of the drug and alcohol abuse issue, including the impact of drugs on our society; history; pharmacological impact of drugs on the body; policy implications of drugs; the criminal justice system response; the effects, treatment and prevention of abuse; theories of use; drug business; and drug law enforcement. Reports on the latest data on drug concerns provide further examination of alcohol and explore the abuse of additional substances such as "club drugs," inhalants, herbal stimulants, and designer drugs. The major drugs are arranged into depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, and cannabis.
