Cogent Advice for Novice Investors.......2004-01-27
Each year, it seems reams of page are published on the subject of investing. Many are forgettable and some should absolutely be avoided. But a friend told me to check this book out and I was pleasantly surprised. Lynnette Khalfani is a former reporter for "The Wall Street Journal" and CNBC. To her credit, she keeps the chapters short and to the point and ends each with what she refers to as a "$ummary $uccess $tory." The book is clear, concise, and east to read and follow.
Khalfani essentially notes that mistakes made by people in investing are fairly common to the majority of investors. She divides the book into five sections: strategizing your goals, buying, holding, selling, and dealing with investment intermediaries such as stock brokers. She has an easy-to-read, friendly style of writing. The advice is basic, and more sophisticated investors will consider as remedial or average, at best, but for anyone who knows little about investing, it's a great starting point.
Her advice is solid throughout, and the piece of advice she considers most important is particularly good: Don't invest prematurely. By that she means you should have a stash of three-to-six months of expenses, a will, and disability insurance before you dive into investing. If you are new to investing, read this book first, you'll be glad you did.
A vital and fiscally savvy resource.......2004-01-14
Knowledgeably written for the non-specialist general reader by a veteran financial news journalist Lynnette Khalfani, Investing Success: How To Conquer 30 Costly Mistakes & Multiply Your Wealth! is a very practical guide to avoiding common mistakes in financial matters, ranging from investing prematurely; to relying too much on "inside" information; to lack of true diversification; to fiscal overconfidence; to failing to acknowledge mistakes; to neglecting to check the background of one's broker or financial planner, and more. Investing Success is commended as being a vital and fiscally savvy resource for learning from the mishaps of others before one's hard-earned life savings are on the line.
A Great Resource.......2003-12-25
Investing Success inspired me to kick start 2004...and to develop a strategy for investing. The book is sophisticated enough to be helpful, concise and well written. The examples Summery Success Strategies at the end of each chapter help me stay focused and on track. Finally, a book that tells you what to do and how to clean up the mess if you've made mistakes.
Basic, yes, but invaluable for many people.......2003-12-11
There are so many books which offer advice on investments and this is one of the best. At the outset, I presume to share some lessons I have learned over the years which seem relevant to Khalfani's suggestions as to how to "conquer 30 costly mistakes and multiply your wealth." First, the importance of systematic savings. Next, the importance of compounded interest on what we save. Finally, the importance of having a realistic plan for increasing one's net worth through systematic savings and the compound interest accumulated by it. Unless and until an individual investor fully appreciates the importance of the first two and then commits to the third, costly mistakes will be made with inevitable (but avoidable) results.
Khalfani organizes her material within five Parts: Strategic Slip-Ups, Buying Blunders, Holding/Monitoring Mishaps, Selling Snafus, and Financial Advisor Foul-Ups. Although each seems to focus on mistakes of judgment, she explains how to avoid the don'ts by doing their opposite. Whereas unsuccessful investors focus on products, successful investors focus on the process of investing. For example, they
* Set specific, measurable, and realistic investment goals (Chapter 1)
* Do not have concentrated wealth (Chapter 9)
* Monitor your investment frequently and rigorously (Chapter 13)
* Have a sell strategy (Chapter 17)
* Take full advantage of all available independent research (Chapter 25)
My guess (only a guess) is that this book will not be of substantial value to sophisticated investors. They and their financial advisors probably know which "costly mistakes" to avoid and how to avoid them. For so many others, however, I think that Khalfani's book will provide the guidance they need to achieve greater success with their investments than would otherwise be possible. As she explains, the investment process involves five distinct phases: strategizing to identify and then meet personal goals, buying the right (i.e. most appropriate) investments, holding and carefully monitoring those investments, selling investments in a judicious and prudent manner, and dealing effectively with intermediaries such as stockbrokers and financial planners. Basic stuff? Yes, of course, but so many private investors are either unaware of this process or (for whatever reasons) lose patience with it.
It remains for each of us to determine what "wealth" means. More to the point, it is our responsibility, indeed our obligation to protect and preserve whatever resources we may have, investing them wherever and whenever most appropriate. If you are among those in need of expert guidance when making such investment decisions, Khalfani's book can be of substantial assistance. However, as she correctly insists, you must first understand the process...and then invest as much of your time and energy may be required before you make investment decisions.

Required reading for Business owners looking to grow........2007-09-19
As a small business owner and operator, I am often too busy working to think about branding my company, and hiring a branding agency can have a huge price tag associated with it. By reading What's Your BQ, I'm able to make smart decisions about branding my company. Also, the questions that are posed at the end of each of the 35 stories helps me to not only see what other companies are doing successfully, but helps me apply branding strategies to my own company. If you want a simple process to build a better brand, this book is it.
This Book Really Delivers.......2007-08-19
I love marketing books and at the same find many of them rather thin on ideas. That's not the case in this book. Sellani give you the tools to create or fix your brand and then takes you deep into the brand strategies of 35 winners. The stories are enlightening and fun and the brandstorming questions themselves are worth the price of admission.
Putting Theory into Practice.......2007-06-25
Many business books are good at giving us endless strategies. Ms. Sellani distinguishes herself by transcending strategy and drilling into tactics. Her 35 case studies make it possible to quickly see how to apply the principles she espouses. Buy this book if you want to start working smarter instead of just harder.
The book I was always waiting for..........2007-06-12
FINALLY, a book that doesn't spend 100 pages expounding on theories! Sellani sifts through the hype that surrounds branding and gives the reader the necessary tools to build a brand's long-term success. This is the book I was always waiting for that delivers a fundamentally solid nuts-and-bolts approach to branding. Although the book can also apply to large corporations, it is filled with thought-provoking case studies from small-to-medium-size companies that I can relate to. If you've got branding on your brain, this is a MUST-READ!
A Must Read!.......2007-06-04
I just finished reading What's Your BQ? and can't wait to develop my own "brand strategy". Sandra Sellani's writing captivates the reader. Her clear and concise explanation of what brand strategy and differentiation can do for anyone, anywhere, is so easy to follow. It's one thing to explain what a concept is but it's another to give you the tools to actually carry the concept out. This book is a must read and sure to be on the best-seller list!

it will change your and your baby's life.......2007-08-01
I bought this and many other books by Dr. Doman on a recommendation by a friend, who followed these books when her children were young. Both went to Stanford and the daughter continued to Harvard Law school.
I bought these books for my 3 month old granddaughter and hope that my son and daughter-in-law will let me teach her.
The book is very clear and easy to follow.
The best children's education book I've ever read.......2007-05-07
I have no words to say how happy I am with this book. I read it just a few days before taking the course 'How to multiply your baby's intelligence' in Madrid, two weeks ago.
If you want to read a Doman book, this is the one I reccomend you to start with. It is the one that gives you the broadest idea of his thoughts and theories. it is just so incredible and exciting, and if you already have a kid and have not started the Doman program right from birth, you will probably think ' oh my god, why haven't I read this book before?'. It is not a tragedy, you can and should start a program right away.
I have two kids, ages three and one, and i have started the program with them. I guess it is working pretty well.
I also took the course and was the best thing that happened in my life, after my children, nephews and husband! I enjoyed it so very much that I am taking the graduate course next week, in Philadelphia. Travelling from Italy to the USA to meet Doman in person! cannot wait!
HIGHLY ; SUPER ;ABSOLUTELY reccomend this book.. my rate to this item is 5, but if I could write a number myself it wold probably be 5 million!

Buy the Other Books.......2007-04-06
Doman's books are a must read, but this book is just a summary of all other books. I still give a 5 star because it gives a good overview.
Start reading How to teach to Read and then How to Teach Math. If you are into it, go to Encyclopedic knowledge. Then take their courses, in Philadelphia, but they are a couple of thousand dollars. Do it all before your baby is born. I read this book 10 years before my wife got pregnant and it changed my life... and my daughter's (I hope). Now she is 3. But don't get too carried away. Believe me, some parents do get carried away. The ones in Philadelphia seem to belong to a sect. Just enjoy your children and add this to the fun. I took the course in Philadelphia but I really don't do much of the program. Still, I raise my daughter differently from what I would otherwise have done without having read this book. You will not be the same person after you read it. And it is not about teaching your baby to read. It is about teaching your baby about life.
You will have more respect for your child and will not let your baby grow "by accident." Instead, you will be able to actively participate in the learning process and challenge your child to fulfill his or her intellectual potential. If you have a child, or if you don't but you love someone, this is the only book that you must read. Remember, read it before the baby is born. This book (or the others in the collection) are a wonderful present for an expecting mother.
This book should be completely free.......2007-02-12
First 1/2 of the book explains why intelligence is good. Second 1/2 explains how to do it. But the how-to(s) are so general. This book acts like an advertisement material to get you to buy other books so in my opionion, this book should be FREE, instead of wasting your money on it. The title is misleading...it should read "Why multiply your Baby's Intelligence-& how to buy our other books."
Skip it .......2006-05-03
The book is a great book if you're "just looking."
If you are at all serious...or might be serious about teaching your child, skip this book and just get the others.
I didn't feel this book had in depth information on any of the programs; you would end up buying or borrowing the other books anyway.
Book Description
This book takes parents beyond their child's academic results and explains why some children who are hopeless in school can emerge as high achievers.
It introduces seven intelligences inherent in every child at varying degrees, namely, verbal-linguistic, mathematical-logical, visual-spatial, musical-rhythmic, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligence.
The book also details each of the seven intelligences significance and provides real-life examples of each and supplies a variety of exciting and engaging games and activities to help develop each child into an all-rounded, successful individual.
Customer Reviews:
Shake up my thinking on raising up my child!.......2003-03-28
Parents have been focusing their efforts on developing your child's talent academically. This book actually tells us why a child's talent is not limited to academic result only and the importance of developing the seven intelligences that the book pitches on. I thought it's great stuff. Kudos to the authors. It came with recommended games and activities too. And, I thought this is one those rare books that is written for Asian parents. A well written one.
I have played some of the games mentioned in the book with my four year old girl and she loves it! A fabulous book for Asian parents!

Title sounds interesting... I wish someone who read it would review it... 99% of the reviews on this are most-likely Planted........2007-09-10
Others have mentioned this same thing and the reasons why. All I'll say is that unless this book puts a "Search Inside" feature on it so i can see what the content and writing is like I'm not considering it. Absolutely NONE of the reviews or the Paragraph descriptive up top really say enough about WHAT the book is about and HOW it helps you Apply it. All the reviews are written the same way, all fawning over the "great book" but not saying what really makes it good. Expecting the buyer to just trust the reviewers opinion. I also clicked on the link below each reviewers previous history of reviews & almost ALL of them either ONLY reviewed THIS ONE BOOK and nothing else in their entire Amazon History OR they reviewed only another Music Business book OR whats worse-! they Reviewed another Book by the Author of THIS book!!!!!! I smell something fishy. Just goes to show you can't trust he 5-star system; you have to have the "See Inside" the book feature for books or be able to listen to the CD for CD's before you buy it. et cetera... Amazon should look into this.
there's something wrong here...........2007-08-03
look carefully at these reviews...how over the top positive they are.. I've seen it so many times from Ty Cohen, he pretends he's a reviewer or has someone start reviewing other books only to end the review by suggesting people check out books by Ty Cohen( if you have the time, click on the "see my reviews" for some of these reviewers and you will find that they name dropped Ty Cohen)... something is wrong here...I don't trust an author who tries so hard to pump his product...if the book is great and it is available, the positive reviews will come... look at the reviews and maybe you will notice like I did, how many times Ty Cohen books were name dropped while a reviewer was reviewing another book on the music industry. If this is his strategy, it obviously works, but does the practice of fraudulent praise help the reader simply looking for the right book for his needs? This guy isn't the only one doing it, padding his reviews with glowing praise, or going to similiar books on amazon and steering people toward his books. I believe it does undermine the customer review process because reviews by genuine objective customers are a real help. I found this book at my friend's place and there's nothing here... his whole philosophy is simple...spread your name into every corner of the market, find a way to place your name everywhere(he does this by giving bogus amazon reviews on music business books and always telling the reader that a Ty Cohen book is better or the best reference book the reader will find)...make believe you are multiple people, the rest is cobbled together strategies that any basic book on internet promo will give, and of course, more than anything, self praise, praise, praise.....
Tons of Help!.......2007-05-05
As an indie musician, I am always looking for ways to better myself, my music and of course, my income. The area that this book most helped me with was creating my website, using it to its full potential and also putting my music in the form of MP3's. I am not an extremely web savvy kind of guy so I was a bit lost before this book. I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to increase their income in the indie music industry.
One of the best out there.......2006-12-21
It's hard to ignore the huge impact the Internet has had on nearly every existing industry (it even created a few new ones!), and the music world, while slow to catch on, is not exempt from its influence. While the "big boys" are still fighting over DRM and what they're licensing to whom, now is the *perfect* opportunity for every aspiring musician to use the World Wide Web to their advantage and gain exposure and market share. Forget spending years down on your knees begging just for an administrative assistant to hear your demo tape. Do it yourself! Ty Cohen's book is an invaluable resource for the pursuit of music stardom. You can tell he really understands the intricacies of the Internet, and he leaves no stone unturned as he takes you through the myriad of options you, as a musician, have for getting your music heard (and your records sold!). Even if you're not tech-savvy, Cohen's book is easy to follow and implement. Highly recommended!
Great!.......2006-07-14
This book covers all the genres out there and it also has advice on how to make a lot of money in a rather short time. It will also give you tips on how to attracts lots of fans through the internet. You will use your own computer to make your business better! More fans, more money!

Easy read - Important and Practical Concepts.......2002-09-15
In Home Cell Group Explosion, the author shows us why the intimate and nurturinging relationships that are shared by members of a small cell group simply cannot be reproduced to the same degree in ultra-large group gatherings. For this reason many traditional churches are unable to meet the needs of their individual members while at the same time striving to fulfill the great commission. He also reveals the main factors for the success of the largest cell-based churches in the world, and shows you why it is the way of the future. You should be able to read the book within a week.
Should be required reading for every cell group leader........1999-06-05
Cuts through all the theories about why we think cell and small groups grow and provides carefully researched statistical data that proves why they do and why they don't multiply. Every planning/ministry/pastorial team should make this required reading for themselves as well as their group leaders.

A very long-winded advertisement.......2005-10-07
This book seems to have been written in order to sell the three previous books by Glenn Doman: "How to Teach Your Baby to Read", "How to Teach Your Baby Math", and "How to Give Your Baby Encyclopedic Knowledge". Apparently you have to buy these three books instead of this one. This book is the most verbose ingratiating introduction I have ever read and won't give additional value or new information.
His methods sound good and other people seem to think they work. I'm going to look into his other books, but reading this was a little frustrating. It was like watching one of those HBO "behind the scenes" movie trailers that for half an hour tell you how great the movie that they're making is going to be. The movie may be good, but the introduction is just a long tedious overview, with no real information. Or to put it another way, perhaps, like those 3-hour midnight infomercials
You have to do A LOT of skimming through the 400 pages just to get a glimpse of what he's talking about. And lest I leave you without giving a specific example. This is just a sample of what he consistently does throughout the book:
"If one took a dull saw and slowly cut a leg off a human being who was in a profound coma, he would not object in any way...[etc]...Why? ...[etc]...He can't see you cutting it off. He can't hear you cutting it off. He can't feel you cutting it off. He can't smell you cutting it off. He can't taste you cutting it off. He has no facts at his disposal. Without facts there can be no intelligence."
If you can muddle through this drek he has some interesting things to say, but it's a real effort. I'm imagining if I do get any of the other books. I'll need a highlighter just to highlight when he actually comes to a point.
Don't get me wrong, I'm anxious to learn, and to teach my baby... but reading Glenn Doman et al. is a challenge in and of itself. His techniques seem a lot simpler than he tries to make them out to be. And from the other reviews, apparently they work.
At the risk of becoming overly verbose myself, avoid this book and cut to the chase by getting one of the other books in the series.
A compilation of three previous books by the author.......2005-07-24
This book is a compilation of three books by Glenn Doman "How to Teach Your Baby to Read", "How to Teach Your Baby Math" and "How to Give Your Baby Encyclopedic Knowledge". You can buy these three books instead of this one. If you already have these three books, "How to Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence" won't give additional value or new information.
Initially I was skeptical about teaching my 18-month daughter to read and math, but found out that that Glenn Doman and Janet Doman have discovered the completely different method of teaching babies, not the same that is using in junior schools. Their method suits for a baby from zero moths old, i.e. from birth. The are three lessons per day, each lesson last fifteen seconds and give such a joy to the baby that she woke me up in the mornings asking me to teach her math. When she hears my steps when I return from my job, she runs to me to teach her math. The babies CAN and WANT to learn!
The babies are eager to learn, they want desperately to learn everything they can, as quickly as possible, but the adults are often fail to provide for the babies the adequate opportunity of learning.
Glenn Doman and Janet Doman offer funny and inexpensive way of teaching the baby to read, math, and encyclopedic knowledge by means of special inventory. For math, it is cards with big red dots indicating a real quantity. For reading, it is cards with printed words. For encyclopedic knowledge, it is cards with images.
A few words from my own experience on producing the inventory: don't even imagine of cutting the cards or the red dots by you. Order the empty cards of the specified size in a nearby company, which prints business cards. For math, order five thousand 0.75-inch sticky red circles cut by a plotter on a roll of ORACAL in a nearby company, which decorates the shop windows. The authors do not emphasize on ORACAL, but my experience shows that the process of putting the circles to the cards should be much easier then. You can even give the baby to put the dots to the cards. It will develop the fingers.
I also recommend "How to Teach Your Baby to Be Physically Superb" by Glenn Doman in addition to this book.
It is amazing how simple it is!.......2004-03-04
I have a 4 month old daughter and I am excited to get started with Glenn Doman's Math, Reading and Encyclopedic Knowledge. My Husband and I are both teachers and see children struggle every day with reading and math, especially fractions. If we can give our daughter a head start, it is more than worth the time it takes to create the materials.
I found that a Red Bingo Dabber works great for creating the math dots. Not only is it cheap, it makes it very quick and easy to create the math cards. I did 100 in 20 minutes. The reading cards take more time, but it is less time than I usually put in creating classroom materials.
Incredible results.......2002-01-14
My wife used this book religiously since our son was 1. Now he is a 4 3/4 yr old preschooler who has been reading basically since he could talk. His preschool teacher gives him assignments in a 4th grade math book, but they are too easy for him. He totally understands math, fractions, cubes, and square roots. His biggest challenge is writing his equations, as his writing level is at about grade level. He's also a wonderful, caring, well adjusted, and sweet little guy.
This book is only the beginning!.......2000-12-05
My parents did Glenn Doman's entire program -- reading, math, physical and encyclopedic knowledge as well as Suzuki violin -- with me, my younger sister and brothers. It had such a profound impact on our lives. We all have retained the love of learning into adulthood, and NEVER felt pressured as children. If you want to give your children the greatest gift ever (after the gift of life) then please read all of Glenn Doman's books! This book is meant to be an introduction -- you will find the program easier if you read every book in the series. Have a wonderful time!

Book Description
Learning begins at birth or earlier, say the authors, not when formal education begins at age six. They draw upon nearly a half a century of search and discovery to show that mothers are the world's best teachers and that tiny children can learn virtually anything they are taught in an honest, factual and joyful way.

More than meets the eye.......2003-11-29
If you read past the first two chapters, which the person above obviously didn't, you will see that this program goes beyond reading and math by showing you how to give your baby "bits" of encyclopedic knowledge in a very comprehensive way. My son knew 50 periodic symbols when he was three, in addition to his states by sight, presidents, birds, and butterflies. Glenn Doman is a pioneer, a true visionary who sees a world where all children are intelligent--even ones who have had brain damage.

Little extra value.......2003-09-27
if you have already read "How to teach your baby Math" and "How to teach your baby how to read" you are wasting your money. The book ads very little to what the other two say.
We only see a benefit in this book for those entering the Doman system, since they can get two books for the price of one.
