Compelling tale - couldn't put it down.......2007-10-15
Neil Strauss, who co-authored bestsellers about Motley Crue and Jenna Jameson, nails it again with another great tale into the bizarre worlds most of us never visit. This isn't so much a how to pick up women guide. It's a captivating story line as he ventures into the seduction community and grows his skills and insight into his own existence. Truly fascinating. Much of the material the average guy cannot relate to, or will ever experience, but as a page turner it is truly masterful.
I would couple this book with one recommended above by Amazon, The Professional Bachelor Dating Guide - How to Exploit Her Inner Psycho. As you read them, you realize the techniques they teach parallel how to "win friends and influence people", along with how to seduce the babes. The skills dissect and perfect being charismatic and comfortable in new situations with strangers. Get both books, they will accelerate your self-confidence to a very high level; for me it's been life changing.
Great lessons in personality transformation.......2007-10-12
Having seen Neil's interviews on the chunky feminist TV circuit and he how handled the bitter hens with ease, I bought The Game. A very intriguing and unusual tale told with some ingenious to bizarre characters throughout.
Neil's written for Rolling Stone and had other great books like The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band; this book carries on with his engaging writing style. Highly recommended.

Good story. However, if one listens to Mystery's tale about the scorpion, which can't change its nature even if it has to die, then how on earth a male in his thirties (fourties?) is able to transform his habits in couple of years? A reader is being familirized with the PUA terminology like - elicit values, field test; fluff, opener etc., where talking is the most essential part. But hey, then Style brags about picking up a Czech girl who "has no more than a dozen words of English in her vocabulary"! Bars and clubs are where the action here goes on, yes, but what about everyday environment like a store, shop, show, queue. Unfortunately, in the book those are just couple epizodes.
And finally, Neil Strauss says that a shrunken-apple face betrays one's Eastern European origins (p.406). Interesting. It reminded me of an Italian prison doctor Cesare Lambrose, who in the 19th century suggested that physiological traits such as the measurements of one's cheek bones or hairline, or a cleft palate were indicative of one's atavistic criminal tendencies.

I tried some of the suggested methods in the book. They didn't work, at least not exactly. I did get a few positive responses. Well, let me put it this way: "The sex you want, you aren't getting, and the sex you're getting , you don't want..."

I think it was a good book. I enjoyed it, the thing was I wanted to know more about NaS and not her, the only reason why I got it was b/c of him. since i'll never marry him I wanted to know what it would be like to be with him. I sure am glad I got this book at the library and didn't pay any money for it because the time I spent reading it was a waste.
Strong woman? Not even close. Drama queen? Yep.
It is pretty easy to predict she will continue to live her life with the same behavior she describes in her book. Irresponsible.

I will start off by saying I took along time to read this book. The reason being the reviews well I won't let that effect me again. This book
is a good read. I think the problem people have with it is because they are looking for another tell all like Karrine Steffans and this is not that type. She is telling the story base on her trial and tribulations in her life. Which happen to include some well known people. She is basically saying that her life is no differnt from anybody else she makes bad choices and she has to deal with it. I mean did anybody read her final words in the book where she says there are no victims or villians. Meaning everybody knew how the situations could turn out.
With that being said Everybody Get Over It.
To tell the truth people will probably be up set with Karrine new book if she doesn't drop enough names.

I liked the first book in this series a lot. The second book was pretty good. (I should go back and review them with 5 and 4 stars each.) This one was disappointing. It was readable, but I didn't find myself drawn in. It felt like the overlap with the trilogy was tacked on in a way that I could easily have liked the book without it better.
There were some little things that bothered me enough that they became big things. The heroine winds up alone in a big house with a tuned piano. She is known as a good pianist and presumably enjoys playing. (This is from her saucy mother's genes, apparently, to tie it into the trilogy.) Yet when she's concerned about all the time on her hands, does she raid the music library and hone her musical skill? Teach lessons to the village kids? Give concerts for the neighbors? No. She learns to knit. I wanted to scream at her, "The piano is right there! Go play it!"
I found the romance to be on the tepid side emotionally. I didn't buy into it very much. I found the trilogy tie in distracting and unnecessary. Sabrina didn't appear to pine for or in any way define herself in relation to her lost/unknown family they way the other two sisters did, and wasn't concerned about finding them, so why bother. The hero, I can barely remember enough to comment on other than he absented himself a lot and wasn't that great. Not that a hero has to be great all the time, but this was pretty eh.
So. If you want the end of the trilogy, read this. If you want a tame, non-threatening romance, you might like it. If, like me, you have all of JAL's previous works on a keeper shelf... I'll send you my copy.
It's no Secret .... I wasn't Seduced........2007-08-08
The Secret to Seduction is the third in the Holt sisters trilogy, but the first I have read. I found it very difficult to stay with. It just didn't seem to be going anywhere. The intrigue was not nearly intriguing enough to hold my interest, and while the banter between the hero and heroine was witty enough, there wasn't nearly enough sensual tension between the two to make me care if they ever got together. The background characters were not clearly drawn and the names of most of the female characters were so similar that it created confusion. I found that I kept putting it down and picking it back up again. Admittedly, it might have been easier and less confusing had I read the first two in this series, but any book within a series should be able to stand alone on it's own merits if the reader is to be enticed to continue on to the other books in the series. The Secret to Seduction just didn't do that for me.

Sabrina Fairleigh is a sweet country miss who meets practiced seducer, Rhys Gillray, earl of Rawden at his house party. She is there to spend time with the earl's cousin Geoffrey, a man she believes to be above reproach unlike his cousin. The Earl is known as the Libertine because he has written such scandalous poetry.
All is not what it seems. Sabrina claims to be even tempered and quite self righteously states she is not one to succumb to passion. In fact, she feels compassion for those who do. Rhys is bored and finds Sabrina to be a worthy project. He will teach her about her passionate nature. These two have nice verbal sparring. They are witty and there's a nice flow to their dialogue.
They are caught in an embrace and must marry. Neither is happy about it but both realize that duty requires it.
Rhys quickly hightails it to London after his marriage to enjoy being a Libertine. Sabrina "helps" people back at the estate which brings her husband back quite frequently to advise and rescue her from her benevolent actions. This portion of the book moved a bit slow and really keeps this book from being a four star. The character development was missing, especially with Rhys. The author states he is a war hero but there are no in depth stories to his heroics. He never convinced me he was falling in love with Sabrina.
Also, Sabrina, who I immensely liked throughout the entire book, became entirely too self righteous and judgmental toward the end. Yes, she had cause but it just went on too long. The book, however, is well written and it very nicely ties up the loose ends of the trilogy.
A Compelling Read!.......2007-06-05
Vicar's daughter Sabrina Fairleigh believes that she is in possession of an even temperament and not one to give to her baser needs. She doesn't have those. Her convictions are going to be put to the test though when she accompanies her friend Mary Capstraw to La Montage, the country seat of the Earls of Rawden. The current Earl is also known as "The Libertine" penning such intimate poems women can't help but loose themselves to their inflamed desires. But Sabrina is made of sterner stuff and she has a goal. She wants to travel as a missionary alongside her father's curate Geoffrey, who just so happens to be the cousin of Rhys--the Libertine himself. So if she is so set on her course why is she so drawn to Rhys and his kisses. Will this trip end up leading to her ruin?
Rhys is bored and in need of diversion. The prim and proper Sabrina Fairleigh is the perfect choice. She is too sure of her convictions and at the same time very disconcerting to his base instincts. When he should walk away and leave her alone, he finds himself drawn to her, to tease her, prod her and force her to realize she is no better then anyone else. What he is not counting on is becoming caught up in the passion that springs between them. Such opposites could never get along well or could they? When they are caught in a compromising situation he does the right thing and marries her. But will the passion cool once the games are over?
This is the first time I've read Ms. Long and I was truly entertained. This title is part of a three book series, this being the last story. And it's a strong stand alone. So, if you're like me and series challenged, you won't feel left out or confused when reading this book. Ms. Long's writing style combines humor and tenderness in a well modulated pace. There were several times I found myself laughing out loud at the situations our protagonists got themselves into.
Character development was slow at times and Rhys was almost obnoxious with his attitude but in the end Ms. Long and her talent for crafting a story saved him from being an unlikable character. I would have like to have seen a wee bit more of the story from his point of view. It would have explained some of his reactions to the situations he found himself in rather by his design or someone else's. It would have also given depth to the sensual connection between him and Sabrina.
Sabrina was a charming character. I could relate to her in many ways. Her realization that she was no better then others was sweet and entertaining. Truthfully it was what kept me reading the story. Her experiences of so many "firsts" were well told and done so in a fresh way.
The secondary storyline of the three sisters finally finding each other, combined with the secondary characters which were varied and likable only added depth to this tale. Ms. Long writes a sensual tale that pulls readers in. Courtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques

This is Sabrina story who is the vicar's daughter who gets her invited to a house party of the scandalous Earl of Rawden and her world get turned upside down. This book took ages to find having read about it a couple of years back. Was it worth the wait? Yes. It's an ingenious way to have fun with your partner, to do things together. There are 50 things to surprise the woman, 50 things to surprise the man. The fun is in the excitement of what surprise is in store for you. It helps to overcome inhibitions too.
A Waste of Money.......2007-05-24
This book was suggested to me by a family member, and I had a hard time getting my husband to agree to buy it since we couldn't see what we were buying. After finally convincing him, I have to say he was completely right. We agreed to alternate weeks, with him tearing out a page the first week, and me taking one the next week.
After a few weeks, we ended up just tearing all the pages out one night, looking for good ones. The author makes a lot of assumptions, and writes her seductions accordingly. In order for the majority of these to work, you have to live in a house, not an apartment, have office jobs, and a big bank account. A lot of the pages that are "For His Eyes Only" involve a lot of preparation to create a very romantic scene, which aren't always practical, or instruct him to treat the woman like an object because, "that's her biggest fantasy." The pages that are "For Her Eyes Only" tend to involve minimal planning and a lot of oral sex.
In addition to all of that, some pages tell you before you open them that they will cost you a certain amount of money, but you can't always trust that. She assumes that you will have certain items, and if you don't, it will cost you. The few pages we've actually used cost at least $25 each, and we can't afford to spend that much on unnecessary items every week.
Last, but not least, some of the pages suggest things that are so outrageous we would never consider them. Most of those involve sexual acts in very public places (restaurants, theaters, even department store fitting rooms) that are a good way to get arrested. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
Definitely worth the money...........2007-01-29
I am glad that I ignored the few negative reviews of this book and just went for it. My husband and I have been married for 5 years and have bought books of this genre before, but they have all been total duds, usually because the "hot" suggestions were things that only a sexual idiot wouldn't have thought of before (showering together, anyone?). To be sure, there are some suggestions like that in Laura Corn's book, but to be honest this is the only book we've found that also includes some genuinely creative, slightly wild, and very FUN ideas as well! I'm a little on the shy side, but I do have an imagination, and it is very freeing to have an instruction sheet to "blame" the escapade on in case it does turn out to be a dud. Most of them, though, I have to say, have NOT been duds! (I did cheat and read most of the pages right after I bought the book, because the element of surprise wasn't so important to me, but my husband LOVES to be surprised...just decide what's right for you if you get the book).
So, basically I only have one big quibble with the book. My husband and I are totally against any and all use of pornography, which eliminates at least 5 of the scenerios right off the bat. There's another scenerio where Laura recommends "hooker" role-playing, and several more where she lauds the praises of porn stars like Jenna Jamison, which we found completely tasteless. So, for some people, that might be enough to bypass this book altogether. Also, Laura LOVES to incorporate a vibrator into her suggestions (a dozen or so), so if you don't like that idea (I just don't care for the things, personally), those are out, too.
If you are willing to just ignore any pages that offend you, though, and if you'd like to break out of your shell a bit and have been wanting to spice up your love life, this is a really good place to start. The reviewers who complained about the amount of money spent are overexaggerating; there were 8 or so scenerios by my count that required a nice meal out and a hotel (>$100), maybe a dozen more in the $30-50 range, and most of the others didn't require any truly significant purchases. And, nearly half can be done with stuff you probably already have around the house. So, if that all sounds pretty good, have fun!

My husband & myself have been married for 10 yrs. This book certainly gave us some refreshing ideas. It is fun, & exciting. I certainly liked the fact that each chapter is sealed, & seperate for him & her. So you have no idea what your partner is going to do. (Very Exciting!) After 10 yrs of marraige it really helped spice up our sex life. So many different ideas. And it's almost like opening a new present everytime you get to a new chapter. I think that's what makes it so different from other books. You have nothing to lose. I recomend it very highly! Have Fun!

Wow. One hundred and one complete blueprints for a romantic seduction scene. Once a week you and your beloved are supposed to pick a scenario from the book; they're packaged so that they can't be read until they're torn out and opened, so neither of you will have a clue what the other has in store for you. (No cheating!) Icons on the front pages of each plan let you know the approximate cost, whether travel or food is involved, and whether it should be chosen during a particular season. My sister in law had the older version of this book, and she showed it to my wife. We wanted something to make our love-life more exciting.
When we ordered it, we found out it was updated, and improved! The seductions are easy to setup and do, with five-star results!
I get romance points with my wife by ripping out the envelopes with these cool ideas, and going to the trouble to make them happen. (Not much trouble, when it's all planned out for you.)
I love it when I get a teaser in my email from the website. It really increases the anticipation, if you know what I mean!

Got this book as an anniversary gift for DH. It is grrreat! You rip out a sealed 'envelope' and open it up for an awesome seduction, complete with ingredients and instructions. We love knowing the other has something planned, but not knowing what it is until it happens!
101 Nights has been completely updated with a new cover, new seduction ideas, and a link to Laura's website where you can send an eCard or an iTease before you seduce your partner. The iTeases are grrreat, too! They add a little mystery and fun to the whole process.

Not only was I excited, but my husband couldn't have thought of a better idea himself than a book that does the planning for you. On top of working and parenting the last thing we have time for is to come up with creative ideas to keep the romance alive. As a person who reads a lot self-help and psychological items I can say this one is a positive exeption in the market of self-help books flooded by books that reapeat thesame stuff over and over.
It's 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' taken few levels higher with accurate and practical approach - with details of what to do, how, and why rather than generic guidance.
'Secret Psychology of How We Fall in Love' fits perfectly between psychological academic stuff and common sense self - help books. It makes psychology applies to real life. It does explain the way women and men function. Getting from physical attraction to committed relationship is explained on the broad background of human relationships, human nature and mind. For anyone interested in psychology in general, this book gives a practical system covering our relationships. Every chapter is an excuse to give some insights in our minds.
For those looking for practical stuff - yes, there is a lot to follow and it makes sense. You do not just read tips you have no idea why would you do what columnists say.
The only minus is when you read it, the fact that none is perfect, hits you. If you measure men or women against criteria offered by Dr Paul, you realize everyone fails in this subject or another.
The Secret Psychology of How We Fall in Love.......2007-08-20
As a widow in a long term marriage I found this book to more helpful than the average book about dating and relating. If you are working on your story and realize that life and relationships are not static, this book will help you understand how to understand people who are living their own stories and how or if you can fit into them. It was exceptional in that it offered a deeper understanding of personalities and how we can grow and develop with each. The best message of all is that a good fit, that will have a good story is one in which you seamlessly partner with another and it is a win win situation. That it is possible to have it. Yes it is possible, after 23 years of marriage, my current relationship is just that, which is what I never had.

Love is supposed to happen easily and naturally, right? For those of us that have found it to be otherwise, Dr. Dobransky presents a refresing perspective. His degreed credentials and 20 year study of human relationships have allowed him to create an easy but powerful "system" for understanding how to choose, date, and have a long term relationship with the right person for you. The beauty of this book is it allows you to take the material, think for yourself and write your own story about finding the love right for you. Also, the diagrams provide maps for solutions for many problems in love and life. The diagram solutions are invaluable because they are something that is actually useful when you are angry, upset, giddy, bored, or head over heels in love. Stoic words in a book just don't work when emotion is involved. I have used this material, and am newly married to the person that is right for me, and I am blissfully happy. I truly believe this would have not have been possible without this book.
Best Book on Creating and Sustaining Harmonious Relationships.......2007-07-12
For the ladies, this book will remind us of those things we have intuitively known. For the men this will give you some tools as well in gaining understanding about yourself and your relationships. In this sense both men and women can see relationships as ways in which to self-actualize in life and reach his/her best potential as a human being. In this way, we can learn to see and understand relationships with others as a reflection of self. Hence this book promotes virtue in the sense of learning to take responsibility of self and yet very proactive, non-blaming and non-punitive. The focus is very Buddha-like, to achieve happiness, strive to do one's best and not feel ashamed for past "mistakes" . Per se, this book does not promote any religion, but being an SGI-USA Buddhist and psychotherapist, I did notice discussion about the fruits of becoming self-actualized or otherwise enlightened. If one takes the suggestions and really understands this book, it will increase if not help you to create as well, the likelihood that you will attain absolute vs relative happiness.
Science with heart........2007-07-10
One thing I've always liked about Dr. Paul's work is that it gives the reader a scientific grasp of what's really going on in your head without invalidating the desire to live free from overthinking, overanalizing and "games." His 9 steps give both men and women a better understanding of where they are in a relationship, how to grow in life and how to connect with people.
Read this book and you'll find your own balance of introspection, adventure and happiness in your relationships.

I had to dig through a bunch a rhetoric to find the techniques that were promised...and the techniques weren't all that new or interesting.
She talks much about what a man likes a woman to be like(bla bla bla). I don't like the fact that she encourages women to tip-toe around men's "triggers" or emotional turn-offs. I was hoping to be an empowered and more daring lover after i read it, but I turned out just feeling bla.

The lady's philosophy of life is an interesting read. She certainly seems erudite, whether it is through formal education or being impressively well read and enviably associated is hard to tell. The information, however, is sometimes buried in flowery, almost poetic rhetoric, which if you enjoy reading or are especially sensitive to the topic of sex might not bother you. I also found the lack of illustrations a problem, as some of the techniques were obscure when just conveyed verbally. I found myself at times impatient with it and found the book by Paget more helpful overall.

Before reading this book I was hopeless with the ladies. But after learning the secrets of putting on deoderant and shampooing my hair, I am quite the Reverend Dinshaw. I have managed to seduce someone with who is very hot indeed! Not the "Ideal Ida" which Ms Venus describes. But no two women are alike, and I can't hope for such perfection as Ida, but I found someone close. However! I am absconding with her to my mountainous New Mexican retreat, where we will no doubt enjoy romantic rose-petal strewn evenings. And I will not just pull down my pants and show my tool in public, or at least not until the second date. Ha ha. So, in summery, I have to hand it to Brenda Venus for teaching me the ins and outs of having a way with the ladies -- and by the way, I have had many outs before!

Good information about such things as hygiene and manners, which according to women I've dated are far from uniformly decent among men. Good points about women having fantasies and wanting men, truths which some men's experience may cause them to forget. Magnificent sex techniques. An admirably upbeat "you-can-do-it" tone throughout.
Given that, it has problems. A former consort to Henry Miller is not a representative woman. If more of her peers were as horny and adventuresome as her, the dating game would be vastly easier for those of us who are simply wonderful people, not movie directors, professional baseball players, or fantastically confident and frustration-tolerant men in their twenties. I would like to give two dozen similarly dazzling women with more mainstream attitutes some truth serum and ask them where they ACTUALLY met their boyfriends and what characteristics they ACTUALLY had that they loved. Now THAT would make a good book on seduction!

I was utterly disappointed with this book. Brenda Venus (who has no qualifications whatsoever to write a book like this) somehow conned her publisher into publishing a book that did little more than outline what she likes in a guy. There is nothing of value in this book. I'm not sure what the other reviewers were referring to when they gave this book high ratings, but it couldn't have been this one. Believe me, this one is a stinker!!

In Holly Springs, North Carolina, Lily "Ice Princess" Madsen bets her friends that she will fly back to California in the private plane of TV star Larsen McRue. Knowing she should never drink, Lily knows she has only one way to accomplish her objective as she has never met the Larsen. She must persuade local vet Fletcher Hart, a friend of Larsen, to introduce her to the Hollywood star.
Though she pleads with him that she must meet her favorite actor, Fletcher refuses to abet Lily on her scheme not just because he is concerned about her or his pal; instead he has desired Lily for several years. He informs her that the entire town is well aware of her wager and gambling on her success has become acute. He makes his own wager with his siblings and goes about melting the ice princess by courting her. However, he begins to realize that if he wins he could lose as he wants Lily for the next five decades or so.
This amusing heated battle of the sexes will have readers laughing one moment and warmed up with the next scene. The story line is fun due to the antics of the lead couple whose wagers lead to love American style. Clearly aimed at humor, contemporary romance fans will take immense delight with this engrossing gender war.
