5 stars!! The only book where is important information is compiled in one place - A Keeper! .......2007-07-14
Bryan Rosner has done it again! As with the rife book, he has brought to the Lyme community useful techniques, many of which, are not well known to main stream America. This information may mean the difference between feeling better, leading a productive life or leading a life of Lyme misery full of mind-numbing fatigue and pain.
Some of this information has taken years of trial & error by Lyme folks to find out what is helpful. This book allows you to leapfrog all that and start using right away what has proved significant.
If you are looking for a reference with every statement footnoted and cross-referenced.... a reference with every technique having a double blind study, then this book is not for you. Much of that information you are looking for, particularly the double blind technique trials does not exist. But if you are looking for cutting edge, practical information for Lyme, then buy this book, I think you'll find it worth your time.
Do these techniques work? All I can say is that on antibiotics alone, I was feeing better, but still struggled with work. Since minimizing antibiotic use over 5 years ago, and focusing on many of the techniques mentioned in this book; I am feeling much better. 2 years ago I climbed Mt. Rainier in Washington and last Christmas, I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.
I recommend this book. Thanks Bryan Rosner for putting this information in print, so we don't have to hunt it down anymore!!
A Practical and Very Useful Guide.......2007-07-13
The Top Ten Lyme Disease Treatments
Chronic Lyme patients are unique. Usually it is not just the Lyme spirochete they are left to deal with but those who are chronically ill often harbor several, if not many pathogens. This creates a situation where symptoms can affect every part of the body and there is no way to be sure which pathogen is causing what symptom. With the many allopathic and natural treatments we are bombarded with, especially for Lyme patients with cognitive problems, it is difficult to effectively decide where to begin. What treatments are most effective? How should they be combined? What are our most affordable options, where we as patients have more control?
Many times I have just thrown up my hands in defeat and decided not to deal with any of these questions. Because antibiotics alone seemed to be working for me, the rest was just too complicated to sort out. However, at some point we may not have access to antibiotics for the use with chronic Lyme. Another consideration is that antibiotics don't always remain effective forever, and for some people they just don't seem to work. These drugs can also build up in your system and cause toxic side effects.
This is where Bryan Rosner's book "The Ten Top Lyme Disease Treatments" comes into play. The author has created a practical resource that is organized and easy to understand and implement. Being a Lyme patient himself, he has done much research and experimentation. He offers information gleaned from his experience and the experience of others.
Antibiotics alone have not been the complete answer for curing or effectively controlling Lyme disease. Most people will come to the same conclusion concerning natural treatments. The Lyme disease germ (borrelia burgdorferi) is a very smart bug, is able to evade the immune system, antibiotics and current available testing.
Bryan Rosner's solution is to offer us valuable information concerning both allopathic and natural medicine and how to use them together to form a comprehensive treatment plan. He emphasizes 5 core treatment protocols and other supportive treatments. He suggests that antibiotics be rotated and used for fairly short periods of time. The author warns us that treating Lyme disease and the co-infections is more of a marathon event as opposed to a sprint. If we approach the treatment of Lyme with this in mind, it will help us to avoid discouragement.
On page 293 of Rosner's book he says, " Because Lyme disease is caused by a bacterial infection, the core of a Lyme disease treatment protocol is comprised of antibacterial therapies. The most effective antibacterial therapies are pharmaceutical and non pharmaceutical antibiotics, the Marshall Protocol, and Rife Machine therapy. At all times during the recovery process, at least one of these three therapies should be in use."
Bryan believes that Rife machine therapy should be the foundation of an antibacterial treatment and tells us why. He discusses the Rife Machine in this book but for those who want a more comprehensive understanding of this type of electromedicine, one should read his first book "Lyme Disease and Rife Machines."
The book stresses that we need to strengthen the immune system through diet, eliminating exposures to toxic and allergic substances, detoxification, electromedicine and herbs. He also points out that there is no magic remedy and that patients must become proactive and take the time to adjust their priorities.
Rosner does an excellent job making sure the patient understands what can and cannot be expected from the various holistic and allopathic treatments. Many of us are aware of the raging Lyme wars (disagreement on the testing and treatment of Lyme disease) that are keeping patients from getting proper treatment. Here is what Rosner has to say about that. "The debate has recently reached a boiling point, involving the passions, fears, biases, personal experiences --- and let us not forget, financial interests --- of those involved. Amidst the inferno, it has been largely forgotten that the goal of health care is not to establish exclusive, single-minded medical truths, but instead, to utilize all available medical treatments that cure disease --- regardless of which paradigm they belong to."
There is so much practical information and so many helpful resources listed in this book that I could go on and on but I am sure you would rather read the book. I highly recommend "The Top Ten Lyme Disease Treatments " to anyone who wants to better understand the realities of treating Lyme disease and what it takes to get well.
Best Investment I ever made.......2007-07-07
This is an excellent book and I would recommend it to anyone who has Lyme. I do not know Bryan Rosner personally but was part of a national teleconference and Bryan was the speaker. He has suffered immensely with this disease, and really wants to help fellow sufferers, in my opinion. This book synopsizes all the latest Lyme therapies. The book is easy to understand and Bryan has done an excellent job in sharing all that he has learned in his journey with Lyme. Well done, Bryan!
Exceptional Book.......2007-06-12
I consider this book a God-send. It is concise, well-organized, and thorough; no fluff, but well-stocked with the details you need to wage war with Lyme intelligently. It takes the reader all the way from understanding the big picture down to the brass tacks of where to find particular supplements and what websites to visit for more information. It is written by and for someone in the trenches and leaves one feeling competent to fight the fight. Best wishes to anyone needing this book. I think that you will be glad you purchased this one.
Thanks to Mr. Rosner.......2007-05-19
Dear Mr. Rosner,
Thank you so much for the wonderful book you recently published
on Lyme Disease entitled "The Top 10 Lyme Disease Treatments". I was
wavering on the edge of insanity, not only from the effects of the Lyme
Disease I have, but because of the multitude of confusing choices and
conflicting information I have been getting. Obviously, your brain is
working well (again?) as your straightforward and succint style of
writing shows, AND that is some of the main proof that you know what
you are talking about, because you are ABLE to write this book!!! I
haven't finished it yet, but even the few chapters I have read are very
encouraging and lend evidence to my suspicions about long term
antibiotic treatment.
Thanks for helping me to go from hopeless to hopeful in 0 to 60.
A huge hug,
Hilary Macatangay

The Bible on Chronic Fatigue!.......2000-08-31
This book is a must for all people who suffer with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. I read it slowly, trying to absorb each and every suggestion that was written.
Changed My Life (For the Better).......2000-06-30
My boss bought this book for me, and I thought it was going to be just another, "yeah, you have fibromyalgia and it's a real shame, this is how you cope with it", but instead, this book CHANGED MY LIFE! (Sorry for the run-on sentence). I had so much pain that some days I couldn't get out of bed. I would find a position that was minimally pain free and not move until I was better. It got so bad that I had to use a cane so I could get to work. But I read the book and I couldn't believe the case histories. But when the pain got so bad that I thought I would lose my job, I changed my diet (hey, what did I have to lose? ) and low and behold, within a week the pain was gone (I stopped taking pain medicine everyday), the "fog" lifted and I felt better than I had in YEARS! Another side benefit, is that I have lost weight! But I recommend this book very highly. I will also say that my doctors have pooh-poohed these results, but I firmly believe that what we eat, really effects how we feel. I just never knew how much!
A must have for the Chronic Fatigue/Fibromyalgia sufferer!.......2000-05-18
If you have or know someone who suffers from fibromyalgia (chronic muscle pain) or chronic fatigue, you absolutely must get this book. Don't waste one more minute, order it now. IT could save your life. Don't believe the naysayers who tell you that nothing can be done. There is plenty that can be done. Not all of it will work, but at least you now have a good place to get started, and techniques that have proven successful for others. Plus the book gives you excellent resources for finding the best doctors out there to get you well. Any questions feel free to contact me at srowe@nbn.net
A Book with HOPE.......2000-05-01
Anyone person suffering these illness, and has struggled with the lack of medical help, NEEDS HOPE. I felt this was truly provided in this book along with the information of Healing. Just reading this book, helped my depression of long term illness that no Dr. could see, touch or give me a Rx for. Getting older or gaining weight, being female did not cause these health problems. Seeing other accounts of similar problems has given me a place to start investigating just what is wrong with my health and so armed with this information, I think can be the first step on the path to wellness.
A must have for those afflcted, needing solid facts/answers!.......1999-11-05
After many hours of searching and reading, this book combines documented clinical facts and case studies. I too suffered with these conditions and have found this book and its treatments to produce positive results! I have been in the medical profession for 20 years and had to leave the field because of my condition, but until recently, have I put these practices to the test, and have found those that work for me. If you really suffer from this, trust me, YOU NEED this book. For those interested, please feel free to write me and I'll discuss with you my own treatment plan and results..
Book Description
With more than 200,000 copies sold, the most authoritative book on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and fibromyalgia has been completely revised and updated.
From Fatigued to Fantastic! offers the most effective treatment plan to help people recover from these disorders, and will coincide with the publication of a groundbreaking study in the Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome announcing the author's findings to the medical community. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFIDS) and fibromyalgia are illnesses characterized by severe long-term fatigue, achiness, "brain fog," and recurrent infections, among other symptoms. The conditions are frequently misdiagnosed and patients often receive confusing and misleading information from health practitioners.
Dr. Teitelbaum, one of the country's leading experts on CFIDS and fibromyalgia, has experienced and overcome these illnesses himself. In this revised edition of his landmark book, he examines the possible causes of the disorders and provides instructions for patients on how to eliminate them, using both natural and pharmacological methods. He offers compelling evidence that these disorders can be treated effectively, and provides the latest scientific research and cutting-edge discoveries about these diseases as well as sound, compassionate advice on dealing with them. Notes. Index.

Dr. Teitelbaum is a genuis!.......2007-07-08
This is the best book I have ever read about Chronic Fatigue. There is so much useful information, and step-by-step directions to heal yourself. He talks about which supplements and/or prescriptions are helpful, and the recommended doses. He also provides free information on his website, including some great lectures.
This book could change your life.......2007-07-03
My doctor required that I read this book. And I am so glad that I bought it. After suffering with this for nearly 10 years I know that my doctor and I are on the right path. I feel hope for the first time in a very long time. Educate yourself because you are the best person to advocate for you. This book will really make that job easier.
Fantastic looking back at Fatigue Now.......2007-06-20
I bought my mother this book as she was frightened and depressed at what was happening to her. This book and armed with one other, she was able to take charge of her life, get her energy back, started exercising, and soon she had a new lease on life and is still working on it. I applaud the writer of this great book. My mother thanks you and so do I.
From Fatigued to Fantastic and Pain Free 123.......2007-05-13
I am so happy with the amount of imformation provided in these books. I am struggling with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, among other things, and it's so incredible to have this kind of support.
From Fatigued to Fantastic.......2007-04-16
This is an excellent book with a plethora of information on the diagnosis and treatment of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia. The author presents a multitude of therapies for managing the multiple dysfunctions involved in these disorders, many of which were revolutionary at the time that the book was written.
It is for these reasons that I give the book a high rating.
That said, since the book was released, new information on how to treat the aforementioned disorders has emerged, as new insights into the causes of these have likewise been discovered. For instance, it is now thought by many experts that Lyme disease is a major cause of CFIDS/Fibromyalgia, as is a certain genetic defect.
Also, this book, as most others dealing with CFIDS, did not deal much with past emotional trauma and how this manifests in the body as physical illness. For anyone who suspects that this factor has played a role in the development of his/her CFIDS, finding information that deals with this aspect of healing is absolutely vital for recovery
Further, I am more of a believer in natural approaches to healing, and this book suggests pharmaceutical drugs when other therapies might be safer, more effective options.
In the end, however, it is an amazingly informative book with important and useful insights which will help any CFIDS/Fibromyalgia sufferer.
Book Description
Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment starts with a detailed explanation of why to consider amalgam illness to be something that some people must have by comparing the well known statistics for how much mercury people absorb from their fillings to the well known statistics of how sensitive different members of a population are to a given toxin. This is for people who really don't know if they believe in amalgam illness or not (the other material available is rather sensational and I can't blame anyone reading it for having questions) before going any further.
Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment discusses how to deal with physicians if you think you have a controversial disease - especially if you have the great "luck" to be covered by a managed care plan.
A key section is devoted to diagnosis - how to tell if you actually have amalgam illness instead of something else. It is also possible to be mercury poisoned from something other than amalgam, and the testing and examination described here is diagnostic regardless of the source.
How to get the dental work done safely if you have decided amalgam fillings are the problem is briefly described - there is a robust industry of amalgam free dentists if you know how to look for them.
The use of drugs and nutritional supplements to get the mercury out of your system is carefully presented - there are some important factors here that are not well described in the previous books on the subject and not all physicians who claim they know what to do actually give good advice.
Then comes what turns out to be the major section of the book - how to treat all the related health conditions amalgam illness can cause so as to relieve them while mercury detoxification proceeds. Since amalgam illness is not widely recognized in the medical community, most people with it get pretty sick before they get motivated to bounce around between doctors and eventually end up in front of one who tells them about it. So most victims have pretty serious, unpleasant health problems (like fibromyalgia or severe allergies) and they really need to make these STOP for the year or two it can take to get fully detoxed and let your body heal.
There are extensive tables of what to use for different conditions, a description of all the drugs and nutritional supplements suggested in the book, and appendices covering things like what the assorted clinical laboratory tests you might get actually mean, what other helpful books are that you might use, and supporting information like what the chelating agents are and how they work.

A Life Saver.......2007-03-31
My wife who is in her 30s, has never smoked, eats a very healthy diet, exercises daily, and in general has a very happy life. She started to have health issues that progressively got worse over the past three years. Things like, loosening teeth, hot flashes, nerve pain, racing heart, heart thumps, panic attack, immune system decline, insomnia, problems with certain foods. In one year alone we racked up thousands of dollors in co-pays and prescriptions. All of the conventional tests, blood tests, x-rays, CAT scans, EKGs the doctors used could not identify the cause. The doctors began to say, "you are young and can't possibly be really sick it must be in your head."
We began to do our own research and noticed that she had a very bad period with many ER visits shortly after having a large old Amalgam removed by her dentist. This is when our research led us to Amalgam Illness. We asked our doctor to test for Mercury. When the blood test came back she was over the limit. We finally had our first real clue to what was causing my wife's health issues. Even though there are millions of people who have Amalgam fillings in their mouth and are suffering various degrees of Amalgam Illness the Dental and Medical communities are not ready or willing to address the issue.
This book however does address the issue in great detail. It is written at a college reading level and so may be challenging to read for some, but it is well written and has excellent content. It in detail expains what the illness is, what the symptoms are, how to help relieve the symptoms, and most importantly how to recover from the illness. The book has greatly improved my wife's quality of life and enabled us to get her on a real path to recovery.
Thank you Dr. Cutler for writing this book! I only wish the government would address this issue. Just imagine how many people have this illness and are being wrongly diagnosed and medicated, not to mention the millions of dollars being wasted.
Sincerely,
Robert Brown
The Book Brought Me Back To Life..........2007-03-21
3 Years ago I was suffering from many of the symptoms of heavy metal poisoning. I did not really know what was wrong and I attributed many of the symptoms to stress and the beginning of middle age. I consulted a dr who wanted to put me on hormones, and a naturopathic dr. The ND took a full medical history and informally asked me if I had silver fillings. It turned out I did, I had many of them including one that had broken several years before and was continuing to crack. I could taste metal in my mouth. I then was sent to do a heavy metal test, via a "Challenge" test. I was very shocked when the results came back off the charts. I was rather skeptical that this was the source of my problems so I started to do resarch. I talked to people all over the world including firefighters who had been exposed in 911. I talked to the Department of Ecology in Washington State and the E.P.A. I then found Dr. Cutler's book and a support group for Chelation online via yahoo. I sought out additional medical advice. By this time I was very ill, almost bedridden. It was very horrible because I had been quite well most of my life and took wellness for granted. I considered the possibility that if I continued to feel so sick I wanted to end my life. I first did a detox as recommended by Dr. Cutler while your fillings are in and noticed improvement. I then went and scheduled total filling removal. After the removal I was even more sick. I had taken all the fillings out at once, something that is not recommended. It is better to do it in stages. I followed Dr. Cutler's recommendations for chelation and his protocol and I started to recover. Under the guidance of a naturopath, and an MD(who does not want to be named because of the controversy) I did chelation and natural detox using fir saunas and supplements. I have had a full recovery. I still need to chelate but I do it lightly in the spring with a follow up from ND and MD. I followed Dr. Cutler's recommendations to the letter. His book is very clear cut and concise. I recommend it for anyone who thinks they may have problems due to their amalgams. I am not a researcher but I do have common sense. An element which is very toxic out of our mouths, in fact a hazardous waste...cannot suddenly be safe in our mouths. I was told basically off the record by people at the Department of Ecology that this is "a consumer driven issue." In other words they thought it was a good idea to get mercury out of your head, and not let a dentist ever put mercury fillings in your mouth...but due to this controversy they could not say anything on record. Moreover...if you go to the E.P.A. website you will see they are telling dentists NOT to use amalgam fillings. I also had been overexposed to flouride due to a habit of eating toothpaste while on the way to workouts at the gym and not really spitting it out. I thank Dr. Cutler, Andy very much for his work because I believe it saved my health. I think it is very irresponsible for dentists not to let their patients know about the possible dangers of amalgam fillings. It is true that not everyone is sensitive, and everyone gets different results but we cannot ignore the effects and possible ramifications related to heavy metals being in our bodies. This controversy has been around for a long time. The attitude of some researchers is sort of to say, "well not everyone gets this from their fillings so it must not exist" This is not a very responsible position. Not everyone gets lung cancer from smoking, but we now know there is a definite correlation between cancer and smoking. I thank Dr. Cutler very much. I have purchased several copies of the book and given them away to people who have symptoms. I would recommend this book to anyone who currently has silver fillings and has symptoms or no symptoms. Recently a contractor I had hired took his 4 year old to the dentist. She was given 6 silver fillings and became ill and had spotting indicative of a reaction. I shared the book with him and he had these fillings taken out. I would never let my child get silver fillings now that I know about this research. I was most fortunate that the people I worked with were open, and willing to look at other research including studies from Europe, and the basis of the treatment came from Dr. Cutler because of his experiences and the fact he had evaluated other treatments that can cause harm due to how mercury works in the human body. I recommend this book to everyone who currently has amalgam fillings. For the people who say that it is quackery, I challenge you to consider that this was what people have said about smoking, having lead in paint, pesticides, and anything in the environment where people profit until enough people get sick and or die. It is very irresponsible to take this position. Thank you Dr. Cutler for having the courage to do the work and publish it.
Excellent resource.......2006-06-03
Even though his book could be more organized, I give Dr. Cutler five stars for his content. I have owned the book for over four years and keep referencing it over and over. It outlines a conservative and safe protocol for mercury/heavy metal detoxification.
Essential Information on Mercury Poisoning.......2006-05-16
If you or someone you love has or suspects mercury poisoning, you need this book. Mercury poisoning and amalgam illness are very controversial subjects (at least in the U.S.), and it is often hard to get thorough information on properly diagnosing and treating it. This book is a godsend for those looking for answers.
Some have remarked that this book is too technical and hard to understand. I feel Cutler has tried to explain this complex problem as clearly as possible...however, the fact of the matter is if you do have mercury poisoning, you are going to have to become an expert to have any hope of getting better.
A smiley "feel good" book on fasting and juicing garlic and cilantro may be easier to read and make you feel more secure, but it's not going to solve real mercury poisoning. Your family doctor will most likely ignore you, and even some alternative practitioners may be somewhat confused as to how to handle treatment, potentially causing more harm than good.
Dr Cutler spells out in detail the chelation tests and protocols you need to avoid that make the situation worse. Particularly helpful was the listing of supplements you can use before/during chelation to soften symptoms and side effects. Also essential information on specific details of chelation and testing to gauge how much metal you are excreting (in all cases, my practitioner recommended a different approach, and after I presented the information in the book, the doctor agreed Cutler's method was safer and made more sense).
Had I not found this book, I never would have had the courage and ammunition to take charge of my own treatment. If you are in the same place, and need reliable information, buy this book, read it, find the sections that pertain to you, learn it, know it. If there is information you don't understand, go to the library or get on the Internet and figure it out. A good place to start is learning about Amino Acids, how they function in your body, and which ones are linked to your specific symptoms. A great companion on this subject is Michael Lesser's "The Brain Chemistry Plan". I carry a copy of Lesser and Cutler's books in my backpack at all times.
Thank you Andrew Cutler.
The only one that works.......2006-02-25
I was almost dead. This works. First energy came back to me for each round of detox. Then allergies lessened, joint aches went away, stomach problems decreased.. Well, poisonoed people can have hundreds of symptoms, I wont count to 100. Read his forum on yahoogroups for more info.
Good luck

Ths book was full of great information.........very detailed but easy to understand. It had great exercise ideas and life modifications. I would highly recommend this to anyone who has been diagnosed or believes they may have Fibromyalgia.
A good book for the just-diagnosed.......2000-07-06
This is a good fibromyalgia book to buy if you have just been diagnosed and you are looking for practical advice on how to cope with your illness. Though not as detailed and complete as Starlanyl and Copeland's Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome, it is also less overwhelming and so is particularly good for someone who is feeling overwhelmed, doesn't like a lot of medical information, or has a mild form of the disease. The chapters "You aren't alone", "Making Lifestyle adjustments," and "Practical helps for specific problems" are quite good, as are the three chapters on managing fatigue, stress, and flareups.
This is the best book I have read on this subject........1999-07-18
This book has brought peace of mind and a greater understanding of what is happening in my body. No one enjoys chronic pain and it is confusing to feel so full of pain everywhere one day and then feel better the next only to ache worse the following day. This book makes one realize that this is part of the syndrome. It offers hope and acceptance and is easy to understand.
Making Sense Out of A Mysterious Illness.......1998-07-23
When my doctor told me he thought I had fibromyalgia, I thought "Oh, great! A garbage can diagnosis--he's telling me something just to keep me happy." I had gone through every pamphlet on the office wall and this was the last one he had that he could hand to me. It didn't make me feel any better. I still have the sleep disorder, the chronic pain and fatigue. I have periods in which I can be semi-normal, and other periods when I'm a zombie. My employer gave up on me and my government doesn't believe I have a disability that should be covered by SSDI. Meanwhile, I suffer.
So, it's a relief to find a book that helps me make sense of this. I still feel rotten but I feel more comfortable with the diagnosis, and I now have answers that may help me reclaim a more normal life. That's more than I thought possible before reading this book. This book is recommended by the Fibromyalgia Network as a good starting point and reference for those who have fibromyalgia, and for their ! families who need to know what to make of it. I agree.
If you can afford only one FM book, this is the one to buy!.......1998-06-12
There are many books on Fibromyalgia Syndrome out there, many offer what is implied as the "quick fix". Well gang there IS no quick fix! BUT if you really want to learn more about your FM then this is the book you need to buy.

About Fibromyalgia, have changed the quality of my life for the better.I strongly recommend both books for anyone diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.I went from a low quality of life, before the books, to a high quality almost normal life, after the books. To benefit from the suggested information a person must follow all of the advice given and not pick and choose. Great book for patients with FMS.......2007-04-11
It offers an alternative over the counter treatment for people with FMS
8 years and going strong!.......2007-03-16
I started the protocol listed in the first book nearly 8 years ago. It took about a year to get through the initial phase. It has been worth every bit of the effort, including finding products containing no botanicals or salicylates. It's not that hard - just read the labels.
Before starting the guaifenesin protocol, I had some good days, mostly bad days. Now I truly understand what a good day is - it is a day I can do anything I want without ever considering the fact that I have FMS. It never enters my head! Imagine having a day like that if you can barely walk through the grocery store. I used to go to only one store because there was a bench in the middle of the store where I could sit to rest. And then half the time I would have to leave before finishing, or call my husband to come get me. I have found victory over this condition and encourage you to summon the courage to do it too. I admit that it was a hard decision. I was not sure that I could handle more pain in the induction phase. The pain was not as bad as I had feared, and the fog lifted much sooner than I calculated - it took only a year instead of 16 months. A year is a short time when you have the rest of your life to live free of the pain and fatigue. Do it for yourself and your family.
DLRocke.......2005-10-02
This book has saved my life. Ignore the idiot reviewers who condemn this book as too hard to apply. If you want your life back you will get this book and you will do everything in your power to do everything the protocol calls for. If it is not working it is something you are not doing. Try harder and figure it out! You are in charge. No one is going to do it for you. This book shows you how you can do it. So do it. I did it and hundreds of others have too. We have all wanted to live, instead of existing in a cloud of pain and fatigue. So LIVE!!!
It used to be extremely difficult for me to just walk around the block. And I was on so many medications to just "function". I am now medication free except the necessity of quaifenesin. I now go to the gym for an hour workout 5 days a week. It took me 2 years to get to that point. I am pain free. I have my life back. The guaifenesin protocol is a life style change that works. So change your life for yourself and for the people in it. Get the book and get with it!!
The medical community did not help me. They actually scoffed when I presented the quaifenesin protocol. They are more interested in treating the symtoms then treating the cause. I think this is a sad, sad, reflection of the Hypocratic Oath that they have taken. My renewed health is real. What a shame they can't participate in my joy.

Book Description
Chronic fatigue syndrome--a debilitating disorder associated with fatigue and a range of other constitutional complaints--has been the subject of much controversy in recent years. Originally conceptualized as a persistent viral infection, the disorder is now understood to be a much more complex phenomenon. This acclaimed volume assembles leading experts on CFS from the fields of psychiatry, infectious diseases, general internal medicine, and neuropsychology. Chapters explore the factors that contribute to the development of the disorder and present a multidisciplinary approach to evaluation and clinical management.

Huge conflict of interest: edited and written by researchers, executives, and psychiatrist consultants funded by Eli Lilly.......2005-07-13
There is nothing here for patients, scientists or doctors requiring factually accurate biomedical information regarding the organically classified brain disorder ICD-10 G93.3 Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).
To understand why the information in this book does not apply to patients with the organic brain disorder Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), readers need to understand a basic principle of scientific medical research.
Organically classified diseases already HAVE medical explanations for symptoms whether or not the exact cause is known.
Patients with organic diseases, by definition alone, do not meet the criteria for psychiatric somatization (psychosomatic) disorders.
And according to the principles of scientific research information based on factually incorrect assumptions and study group selection criteria cannot be extrapolated to organically ill patients.
Nor, for that matter, do beliefs, personalities or behavior cause or perpetuate organic damage caused by active or cyclically reactivated neurotropic (brain/heart) viruses such as HHV-6 and EBV (check PubMed for biomedical studies).
Verification is beyond simple: Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)/post viral fatigue syndrome (PVFS)/chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are exclusively listed under G93.3 on page 494 - photocopies are available to the public.
Many doctors and patients are unaware of the ongoing ideological battle currently raging between psychiatrists over who is actually mentally ill and where mental illness ends and organic disease begins.
Or that adherents of psychiatrist George Engel's "Biopsychosocial" theory are reclassifying many organic diseases, not just G93.3 ME/PVFS/CFS or M79 fibromyalgia, as psychosomatic disorders in an effort to validate their theory.
Looking for a list of these organic disorders? Check the list of patient medical disorders covered under the lawsuits filed and won by states attorneys nationwide against UnumProvident Disability Insurance conglomerate or read biopsychosocial psychosomatic research by AJ Barsky.
Readers interested in accurate, applicable psychological information on CFS and fibromyalgia need to read books by longtime CDC and NIH researchers Dr. Leonard Jason and Renee Taylor also on Amazon.
Straus's work exhibits pure genius!.......1999-01-22
Dr. Straus presents the indisputable facts about CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) with unsurpassed clarity. While it clearly shows a scholarly understanding of the topic, Straus's work serves to answer the questions of the layman and the scientist alike.
Book Description
"Parting the Fog" is a candid, first person account of what it is like to walk in the shoes of someone suffering from fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome. It relays the seriousness of this condition in an easy-to-read manner, while employing humor and focusing on hope. It is a combination of prose and inspiring poetry. Each of the 17 short chapter ends with a personal page to enable sufferers to record their own thoughts and experiences, if they so choose. It also includes: a "Don't Ask-Do Ask" list for "Normals"; a letter to supportive people; a description of the treatment plan the author believes holds the best hope of recovery from symptoms; and chapters on perspective, faith, loss and hope. It is unique, personal, and will help others understand the struggles those with FMS/CFS are faced with. It is an important addition to the FMS/CFS sufferer's library.

Thank you Sue Jones!.......2007-10-08
This book is written from the heart and touched my heart tremendously. First book I've ever read on Fibro/CFS that explained the pain that I've experienced. Thank you Sue Jones!!! I can use this book to help my husband and family understand my condition better.
I meant to give this book 5 stars, can not figure out how to change it now
Best book ever!.......2007-09-22
I'm a 27 years old woman in Denmark with FMS and I have to say to everyone who has this disease or anyone who lives with someone who does, please do yourself a favor and read this book it will answer a lot of questions that you might not ask your loveones directly and it will help you understand what its all about. I its nothing less then fantastic,it gives you a feeling of hope and that you're not alone with this.
The poems in this book has been worth cold to me.
Thank you Sue Jones for sharing with us.
Wanted more detail, less poetry.......2007-08-08
As someone who suffers from fibromyalgia, I've often felt lonely and misunderstood. I purchased this book hoping to find a relatable story within its pages; I'm sad to say my hopes weren't realized. I longed for Ms. Jones to get more specific about her experiences through prose, rather than poetry (I knew there would be poems, but I didn't expect so many). I have nothing against poetry--in fact, I've written a poem now and then about my own fibromyalgia--but I felt the poems took up too much of the book.
As someone who spent the first 26 years of her life in the midwest, I recognized that certain stoicism in Ms. Jones' writing; it echoed the messages I was taught as a child: life's hard, deal with it, don't complain. I actually wanted her to complain more, or at least more specifically. I totally agree that we who suffer need to find hope and move forward, but sometimes, we need to moan and mourn a bit first. I didn't get enough of that. Perhaps this book just isn't the right one for my stage of this condition? I'm glad others have found it helpful, but it was frustrating for me. I found myself wondering if she would "get" me if we were to speak and that isn't what I expected when buying this book.
One example of lack of specifics: the chapter on "guai" mentioned a woman who'd taken guai for two years and three months. Only in the last three months had she found relief. For the first two years, she found it "confusing." How? Why? In what specific ways? Ms. Jones herself mentioned that the protocol can be confusing, but I found myself wanting to know MORE of what she and the other woman meant, rather than be directed to another book for the answers.
I'll be donating this book in hopes that someone can find comfort. For me, it was a waste of time, except to spur me to write my own account one day. I gave it two stars for the effort, and out of respect for a fellow sufferer.
Someone really understands.......2007-07-14
This book was very emotionally satisfying. I felt that this author was writing for me and validated my feelings and experiences. It was a nice change from a medical or technical book regarding Fibromyalgia. It is also a great book to share with someone for a better insight into what a typical day can be like.
Helps us "normals" to understand.......2007-05-08
Although I don't personally suffer from Fibromyalgia or Chronic Fatigue, I do have family members that are afflicted. This book is an excellent way to "part the fog" for those of us who can not relate to the wrath this illness wreaks on it's victims. It is honest and simple, yet eloquent, and does not bog us down with medical jargon or some hidden agenda. I feel that anybody who has a friend or loved-one living with Fibromyalgia should read this book to get first-hand insight into their lives that you may not get elsewhere. After reading this personal account, I had a completely different understanding and appreciation for the symptoms and difficulties experienced by it's sufferers. It is an eye-opener!

Book Description
If you're struggling with fibromyalgia or CFS, this book can help you. It offers an evidence-based improvement program that can help you achieve a healthy balance between activity, rest, and leisure-a balance that can significantly reduce pain and fatigue and increase your energy. In this book, author Fred Friedberg, a clinical psychologist and a leading researcher in chronic fatigue, first explains how lifestyle impacts the severity and persistence of fibromyalgia and CFS. He then goes on to show how the seven step lifestyle balance program can help you to function and feel better. In step one, you'll learn how to use active relaxation techniques to lessen ongoing stress. Better sleep, anger management, and activity pacing make up steps two, three, and four. Step five focuses on overcoming worry and guilt, and you'll learn how low-effort pleasurable activities can ease pain and fatigue in step six. Finally, in step seven, the importance of finding and maintaining personal support is covered. This effective lifestyle-focused program has brought relief to many others like you who have struggled with these misunderstood illnesses-illnesses that modern medicine cannot cure. You can start on the path to a better quality of life today!

Not much help for me , I'm afraid.......2007-06-15
I really didn't see much in this book that I didn't see on the CFS web site or the CDC or pro health web sites.
I'll grant you, I am quite ill with both FMS and CFS , absolutely homebound with the CFS, so maybe I'm not grasping all the author is trying to convey.
Maybe if ever I don't feel so foggy or even as debilitated as I do now, I will reread this book and find what I so obviously missed.
Not much new..........2007-03-09
There is not much new in this book for a long-time FM patient like me. I was disappointed. I expected a newly-published book to contain more new information.
Real help for CFS/FM sufferers. An awesome book!.......2006-07-20
I have had CFS/FM for 18 years. I was 29 when it first hit me. I have suffered incredibly all these years. Relapse and recessions over and over again. I've been unable to work. Been in denial all these years, beating myself up thinking it will one day just disappear. Put my life on hold. Felt guilty I wasn't able to socialize as I wanted etc. I have been feeling pretty hopeless after another bad bout. Then, this book was given to me as a gift. Dr. Friedberg, who also, has CFS and suffered for many years, writes in an easy to understand format, with compassion and experience of discovering how to cope with CFS and lead a happier life. The 7 steps DO work! I highly recommend reading it or give it to someone you love you has it. I have researched tons of things about CFS, but I have never understood it like I do now. I have never understood how I can help myself feel better and keep my symptoms at bay. A definite 5 star review. Wonderfully written.
Way to go, Fred! Its Feasible, Factual, and Funny!.......2006-07-03
THIS is a good CFS/FM book! The research, experience, and humor in this book might be motivation you've been missing to move from desperate, survival mode to a more endurable, maybe even enjoyable, way of being. Even as a psychologist trained to spot sabotage and denial, Fred couldn't see his own contributions to his experience of illness and life for years,... and he doesn't blame you if you can't either. Having blind spots may be a natural part of adapting -- we all seem to do it to some degree.
This book is especially for those who've reached a coping plateau, ready to concede, at least a little, we have influence about how we feel and react emotionally, intellectually, and physically. Acknowledging and using that influence leads to more capacity to deal with our extraordinary physical challenges. Within each one of the practical Steps are several things to consider, implement, and/or practice. Personal stories illustrate the benefits. Each time I pick up this book, I find something interesting, helpful, or supportive. So has every other person with CFS/FM I've shown it to whether it be about why doctor visits go wrong, why vacations are not necessarily helpful, or how to think differently about anger and guilt.
The author is one of us and writes with such easy going, yet profound, honesty. Its easy to identify with the examples. It also feels like Fred is a friend on the journey with us, especially important if support is lacking from friends and family. I identified with Fred as he describes the pedometer experiment. I did that! I have done all of the "9 Ways to Make Yourself Miserable" in Chapter 16. Having progressed from that place, reading the list makes me laugh. I've read the 'miserable' list to others to a mix of laughter, silence, and groans as people recognize and reveal where they are in their coping.
The cognitively, visually impaired will appreciate the book's signifcant white space and small, clearly marked sections. You can skip around and not get lost. There is no index, so I'll be adding sticky notes to my copy to more easily show items to people in my CFS/FM support groups.
Fred and the 7 Steps book are good companions on the CFS/FM journey. I find there is so much good here I won't be bothered by statements requiring all the steps and promises of this or that percentage improvement. Do what you can, do what you are drawn to. You may get less improvement that way, or you may get more since you are honoring yourself. It may take you more or less time, but the author and book provide encouragement and experience of a professional who lives with and works with these conditions which is amazing. Physiological improvement can and often does follow seeking balance and managing activity. Fred has witnessed and experienced that. I have experienced that in my life. This kind of approach is worth it!

The Book That Started it All.......2004-06-02
Dr. Crook was one of the first to write about CFS,this book does have cartoons which make it easier to understand. This book changed/saved my life. My daughter & I were diagnosed in 1983(a rarity in itself back then)and told "good news is, yes there is something wrong with you. Bad news is there really isn't a standard drug or treatment. Except expensive immunoglobin therapy that your insurance won't cover since they don't really recognize CFS as an illness!" I didn't get the book until 1990 and read it from cover to cover the first night. Remember no real internet then and GNC carried vitamins and body building supplements, no St.Johns Wort, forget Acidopholous and CoQ10 sounded like a Star Wars character.THANKS TO DR. CROOK these things plus many others in the book made a complete difference in my health. Yes the other books listed are more informative, they were published later. If you can still find this one read it first. P.S. I was searching AMAZON because my 2nd copy is now so tattered and covered with notes from people I've loaned it to that it resembles a high school yearbook complete with heartfelt comments:)
Helpful Information.......2003-01-12
This book had extremely helpful information for those suffering from symptoms that relate to Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The author gives practical advice and explains the cause of often misunderstood symptoms such as itching, headaches, nausea, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, etc. If you are suffering from CFS, Fibromyalgia, or allergy symptoms, I highly recommend this book. This book was far easier to read and understand than many books on the topic. It also address overconsumption of sugar as a problem, which many authors are reluctant to address.
Don't bother.......2002-10-29
I've read other Yeast Connection books and they were much better than this one. The book has an over abundance of cartoons used for illustration and instruction, so much so that they are extremely distracting and make it very difficult to read. All of the information covered in this book can be read in the Yeast Connection Handbook and others. It basically repeats other books and adds too many cartoons to fill in the pages.
