Star Wars Boba Fett #1,2,3,4,5, and 6.......2007-01-19
By John
If you have seen Star Wars movies you are going to like this
Series. Boba Fett is a funny trickster who is the son of Jango Fett who is the richest and most feared Bounty Hunter who ever lived.
Follow Boba and his adventure to many planets where he learns how to be a Bounty Hunter.
I especially like this series because of the things he does to become a Bounty Hunter. Boba is very sarcastic he does not know what to do and he makes funny mistakes.
Boba seeks help from his father's friends while being chased by his worst enemies. One time Boba attacked a General named Grievous and he gets thrown into a garbage chute!
If you like Fictional or Adventure books this is the right series for you.
This is one of the greatest Boba Fett books. .......2006-05-23
One thing that totally flawed this book: that it hardly had fighting combat. Anyway, what do you expect? Boba Fett is not a Jedi and is a wanna-be Bounty Hunter (10 yrs of age). This book describes Boba's adventures after the death of his father, and, after Episode 2: Attack of the Clones, especially how he is surviving. Crossfire does contribute to the story evolving in the Prequel Era and ties in well with the movies, other books and the Dark horse comics. For those people who read Boba Fett, you should really pick up the Jedi Quest series, it is much better than these Boba Fett books.
Boba Fett.......2005-08-30
This is the second book in the Boba Fett series. I highly recommend this book, and I recommend the other books in this series, too:
-The Fight to Survive (#1)
-Maze of Deception (#3)
-Hunted (#4)
-A New Threat (#5)
-Pursuit (#6)
Boba Fett.......2004-03-14
This was the second in a series about the future bounty hunter, Boba Fett. With his father dead, Boba finds Count Dooku (an employer of Boba's father, Jango) on a garbage planet. He sneeks around and figures out that Dooku is trying to find the Ultimate Force (I don't know the exact name that they gave it.) Later, Clone Troopers attack the planet and rescue Boba as an orphan. Boba then lives on a huge ship in outer space. He decides to now search for his ship, Slave I which was captured by another Bounty Hunter, Aurra Sing. Sing is actually following the space ship to hunt for jedi. When both ships land on a moon, Aurra Sing and Boba Fett team up to get off of the planet. Sing agrees to help Fett get his father's money as long as she gets half. The book ends as the two leave into deep space. You'll want to read the next book in the series, Deceptions, after finishing this one.
The Clone Wars continue with Boba in the middle of it!.......2003-08-06
This is the 2nd book of a trilogy about the 10 year old Boba Fett set 1 month after the battle of Geonosis. On the current timeline as of April 2003 this is also the 3rd of 11 existing or planned stories about the Clone Wars that start with Episode 2. Crossfire does contribute to the story evolving in the Prequel Era and ties in well with the movies, other books and the Dark horse comics.
Aurra sing has brought Boba to Count Dooku on Raxus Prime. Boba discovers that they are drilling for a force device. They Jedi lead troops arrive leading to the title of the book CROSSFIRE. Completist like me wish to read this book because it does offer some substance.
These books are said to be written for 9 to 12 years, but the same is said of the Jedi Quest series. The Jedi Quest books are much better. But if one want to know about young Boba Fett, this is where it can be found. I see most reviews award 4 or 5 stars. Others are free to say that this should be ranked among the very best books ever written. For me, I award 4 stars for books that are above average and 5 stars rarely. I find it difficult to give this modest yet entertaining book anything except a grade of FAIR or 2 stars. Seems that 5 stars are for Moby Dick or Wraith Squadron or Courtship of Princess Leia.
Darkhorse is also doing Clone Wars comics. They are well done and worth a look. The entire prequel era was well thought out and I am enjoying the books and comics, and now the cartoon shows.

Well Balanced Work.......2007-01-10
Crossfire by Matthew Farrer
The first book of what has already become a trilogy, this novel has parallel plots. The more obvious is the action/detective adventure centered on the protagonist, Adeptus Arbites officer Shira Calpurnia, and the more subtle is her personal development at her new posting, the Battlefleet Pacificus home world of Hydraphur. Joining her is a cast of well-done secondary characters: fellow officers Ryo Nakayama and Nestor Leandro, Inquisitor Zhow, Sister Romille, and a host of others.
Like fellow Black Library luminary Dan Abnett, M. Farrer has a talent for immersing the reader in the setting and making the fantastic believable. At the same time, he crafts three-dimensional characters with realistic motivations. Calpurnia, his excellent protagonist, wins through the challenges set before her through her own skills, and those of her allies, without the clumsy plot devices or comic-book heroics sometimes employed by other authors. Even his villains, though unbalanced in many regards, act in an intelligent manner consistent with their personalities.
All this is set against the rich background of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 (W40K) universe, which M. Farrer utilizes to excellent effect. In addition to a far closer look at the Adeptus Arbites (the police of W40K) than ever before, the reader is also rewarded with insight into the Adeptus Ministorum (Ecclesiarchy), the Imperial Navy (specifically Battlefleet Pacificus), and several orders, both militant and otherwise, of the Adepta Sororitas. Those who appreciate good "fluff" in addition to the writer's craft will not be left wanting.
In short: with a well turned plot, engaging characters, and good writing, there's very little not to like about this work.
3.5 stars. .......2006-08-07
Shira Calpurnia, Arbitor Senioris of the Adeptus Arbites, is serious about her duty. The Adeptus Arbites enforce the Emperor's law, pass the Emperor's judgement and enforce the Emperor's peace. Shira Calpurnia is a newly assigned Arbites officer. She knows little to nothing about the bustling dockyards of the Hydraphur system, except that they are home to the mighty Imperial warfleets, which dock, rearm and repair in an endless cycle of war.
Arbitor Calpurnia has only just checked in for her new position and post when an attempt is made on her life. A psyker gunman, invisible to the naked eye, is not cheap. The fact that the assassin's remains are untraceable, due to the gunman's involuntary brain suicide protocols, proves that someone with money is behind it. But why? Shira has only been on Hydraphur a couple of hours.
To make matters even more difficult, Shira's arrival is on the Sixth Day of Septista. There are twelve days to the Mass of Saint Balronas. Each day has a precious religious rite, all its own. Shira finds herself adrift and struggling to quickly learn the traditions and rituals while investigating what becomes a series of [...] attempts. Corruption and double-crosses abound as Shira attempts to bring the faceless enemies to justice.
**** A great beginning for a new series involving Arbites officer Shira Calpurnia. I, as the reader, slowly learn about Hydraphur along with Shira. I could understand Shira's feelings of being the "crude outworlder" in which the locals think of her. I also understood feeling justified every time Shira proved herself worthy of her position. As an added bonus, I was able to watch some of the Battle Sisters at work and understand a bit more about the Adeptus Mechanicus. The story slowed down too much in the middle for my liking, but all-in-all, I feel this novel has created a terrific foundation for the novels that will follow in this series. ****

Matthew Farrer's Crossfire is a good read.......2004-08-24
The stable of Black Library writers has a good addition in Matthew Farrer. His first novel for the Black Library collection of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 novels is titled Crossfire and it lives up to the novels written by Abnett, King and Coulter.
Crossfire uses a character type that is usually seen in the background and, most of the time, as cannon fodder: the Adeptus Arbites. The Arbites is Warhammer 40K's version of law enforcement. They have alot in common with the Judges of Megacity-One. The character of Shira Calpurnia is well-rounded and shows personality. Crossfire's plot owes alot more to mystery solving than to all-out warfare like most of the books in the Warhammer 40K line. The character Calpurnia really turns out to be worth another novel by story's end and Farrer and his editors must've agreed since a sequel has been released.
For fans of Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts novels and William King's Space Wolf books, I highly recommend Farrer's first 40K novel.

Musical talent gets the teenagers into trouble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2002-02-02
John Vornholt is a very two-faced star trek author, with the ability to produce ambitious and well written stories, while producing just as many naivé and brainless action adventures.
"Crossfire" is the purest example of the latter.
The main character is the drily portrayed younger version of Geordie LaForge, who works as a roadie for the Starfleet Academy Big Band, where the equally dimensionless younger version of Will Riker plays the trombone.
The book starts with the band traveling to a music competition on Pasifica, the much mentioned vacation planet of Starfleet officers.
The first half of this ridiculously short, but still overstrched story centeres around the question of the band winning or not, with tons of unnecessary and clumsy scenes filling the pages. The action begins as a bunch of Orios kidnapp the band.
Why?
Because they like the way they play, of course; no more, no less.
The band is taken to a planet where Orion troops are fighting as mercinaries in a war they've got nothing to do with, and the band is instructed to cheer them up. And of course the fighting begins just as they get there, leaving LaForge and Riker stranded together in the middle of a war zone.
Needless to say, the book has a discusting 'Happily Ever After'-ending, wich involves a lot of technobabble and a solution any reader can figure out aieons before the characters.
By the end of the book, I was truly perplexed by the question of how such a potential author could waste his time on something so utterly horrible.

Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
A reasonably long trade, compiling 9 issues. The major storyline being that what everyone thought was a two way war for Keystone between Blacksmith, her Network, and the Rogues, versus The Flash, his allies and the police, is really three.
A new force, the Thinker, has turned up, and wants to use all of Keystone City in his own processing machine.
After this is over, James Jesse starts doing a little Rogue recruiting for the FBI, as does Captain Cold, for his own purposes.
Blockbuster fun.......2005-03-21
Reprinting Flash: #183-191, Flash Secret Files
So the rogues have this huge network, an underground society that arms crooks, buy, sell and trading goes on, and the flash never knew, now the crap hits the fan, it's outed, the rogues are gunning for him like never before, an army of crooks, but that's not all, there is an old villain named goldface who has reformed and now runs a union in town, but is he really on the up and up? what's his connection to the underground network and their evil leader?
then the city across the bridge is infected by a living computer who plans to turn the world into his slaves, and caught in the middle? the flash can he save two cities, stop all hell from breaking loose on the world and save his wife and family?
Johns does yet again a great job with the writing, even the little characters like the cops gets you on the edge of your seat and you might even say "hey give me more of the cops" when they switch back to the flash, and all the villains are fleshed out, even the union leader is great, so many characters, and you still love them all, and none are wasted, none are just props.
if you love flash or just want a great story then get this, and the other geoff johns flash trades

Book Description
What's going on in America?
Caught in the Crossfire offers an original and compelling vision of the forces changing the ways people live their lives, through the unique lens of America's children. Grossberg reveals how the United States has been gradually shifting from a society that celebrates childhood into one that is hostile to and afraid of its own children. Today kids are often seen as a threat to our social and moral values. Grossberg gathers evidence from the media, schools, courts, medicine, economics, and family life.
Caught in the Crossfire locates this alteration in an original understanding of the struggles transforming contemporary America and of the choices Americans face about their future. He documents the relations between economic ideologies and economic realities and explores both the 'culture wars' and the political culture of the nation. Grossberg argues that all of these developments, including those involving the state of kids, only make sense as integral parts of a larger struggle to redefine America's uniqueness and to develop a new sense of itself as a modern society.

An Extraordinary Critique of Politics, Economics, and Culture.......2006-08-25
"Caught in the Crossfire" is a contemporary critique of the current political climate of the United States. Grossberg situates his argument in what seems to be the collective and growing dissatisfaction with our children, e.g. the "war" against kids. The first third of the text addresses how kids have been treated in the past three decades both literally and figuratively, with emphasis upon the latter. It is certainly no secret that children (especially teenagers) are misrepresented often in the media, leading to the demonization and criminalization of our youth. One need not search very far to find glorifying examples of this, take for instance the current status quo on rap music.
Nevertheless, Grossberg provides a compelling argument to the contrary, arguing that the current claims about the behavior of our kids are not only misleading, but also blatantly false. His claims are supported with rich data, including but not limited to media documents, government surveys and criminal data. Grossberg even goes so far as to purport that kids rather are very much like the generations that preceded them. Before reading this text one might be at odds with such a statement, as it seems to fly in the face of conventional wisdom, but wading through his presentation of the data one would be hard pressed to not only consider the statement very compelling, if not downright correct.
Much of the blame concerning the deterioration of kids is placed upon faltering parents, racism, capitalism, the current "family crisis", and of course the media. Grossberg addresses all of the aforementioned. Although the brunt of the blame does not rest squarely upon one or the other, the current rhetoric espoused by political factions on both the right and the left can be largely attributed to a compliant and complacent news media. Grossberg provides us with a plethora of factoids that refute current and widely held assumptions, beliefs, and myths about kids. For instance, a child is three to four times more likely to be struck by lightning than to be a victim of violence in school (p. 41). Nevertheless, he is quick to note that we cannot merely blame the media (as many do) but opt for a more sensible approach, one that would factor the media into the general equation concerning our understanding of kids.
Grossberg proceeds to connect the misrepresentation of the youth crisis to broader struggles and changes that have defined America (and modernity) for at least the past quarter century. The dialogue that follows contributes to a social commentary concerning politics in an entirely new and unique perspective. In the second third of the text Grossberg presents a stifling critique of politics, castigating both the right and the left (few scholars are capable of doing this well and with rigor). Perhaps some might criticize Grossberg for being too "in the middle" but this would simply be missing the point. Besides, he openly admits his preference for left politics (which makes his critique all the more damning), as he remarks that "[c]ritisim can be offered in a spirit of solidarity [and] I write from a desire to forge a more effective left politics" (page 160).
The final third of the book addresses what Grossberg calls the coming American modernity. Modernity is typically understood as a historical period characterized by 19th and 20th century world of science, nation-states, political democracy, capitalism, urbanization, mass literacy, mass media, mass culture, rationality and individualism. Grossberg divides American history into three centuries, each he argues characterized by their different realizations of modernity to discuss the creation and development of American democracy, capitalism, and politics. He argues, among other things, that we are in "the midst of the unsettling of one modernity and the emergence of another" (page 217). It is here Grossberg argues that a space is provided for a restructuring of politics, economics, and culture, whereby we can forge a move toward a more compromising political discourse; as the political climate has quickly deteriorated into an all out war between the right and left, characterized by the absence of rationality (a tenet of modernity) in contemporary political debates and commentary. This perspective is exemplified in the idea that campaigning is constant and ubiquitous, as the goal of politicians it seems is merely to stay in office.
So what do you ask does this have to do with our kids? "Kids' unique relation to time and history in the second modernity made them the most potent symbol of possibility and hope. Childhood and youth became the essence of imagination, the affirmation that there are always alternatives and that resistance to any one future is always possible. Kids remind us that we can always change directions" (page 308). The war against our kids then destroys the possibility of imagining change for the future and even perhaps destroys the possibility of a future. This text is a call for communication, an open dialogue, as "communication is the opening of possibility" (page 317). Communication then fosters the ability to transform our society to a more egalitarian and livable environment, one that would be suitable and enjoyable for the majority of people.
This book was extraordinary and is highly recommended. It was very thought provoking, stimulating, and very intellectually rewarding and will no doubt change the ways in which you approach politics and the social world.
Book Description
In this remarkable second book in the Children of Conflict series, Laurel Holliday presents a powerful collection of young people's memories of growing up in the midst of the violence in Northern Ireland known as "The Troubles."
"All my life I have been afraid. When it would get dark I would lie in bed and be frightened to move in case men would be outside who were going to smash the doors in with a sledge hammer and then shoot whoever is in the house as they have done before."
-- Bridie Murphy, age twelve
More than sixty Catholic and Protestant children, teenagers, and adults chronicle their coming-of-age experiences in the war zone, from bomb-devastated Belfast to the terrorist-ridden countryside.
"It was like my head exploded. It's an experience you can't really understand -- getting shot in the head -- unless it's happened to you.
-- Stephen Robinson, wounded while walking home from secondary school
For the first time in thirty years there is some hope for an end to the murders and bombings that have wounded more than 40,000. But the ravages of war remain indelibly etched on the minds and souls of the generation known as children of "The Troubles."

A Moving Collection of Essays.......2004-05-10
Laragh Cullen is a young woman who grew up in Dungannon, County Tyrone, in Northern Ireland. She tried her hand at poetry when she was eleven years old and her words are among those included in the book CHILDREN OF THE TROUBLES. Laragh states:
I'm tired of the sirens
The town's like a cage
I wish there was peace
I'm eleven years of age.
Her words describe the many challenges faced by the children who grew up in war torn Ireland, yet the hope for peace is also evident in many of these same young voices. This is the subject of the book CHILDREN OF THE TROUBLES.
CHILDREN OF THE TROUBLES is a collection of stories by people living in Northern Ireland during what has is referred to as "the troubles." Most of the pieces included in the collection are written by adults who grew up in the midst of the strife between Catholics and Protestants in this divided section of the world. While the entries were written by adults, the experiences mentioned in the book took place when the writers were young.
The book is divided into three sections, the first dealing with situations which take place in Belfast, the area that was most affected by the strife. The second section deals with how the strife affected other counties of Northern Ireland. The third section deals with those who tried to remain neutral.
The editor, Laurel Holliday, has edited similar works involving children in Israel and Palestine, African Americans in American inner-city environments, and diaries of children of the Holocaust. The selections in this volume were written by a variety of people both Catholic and Protestant, of all educational levels, some victims, and some who were in the midst of the violence. Each of the voices in this work shows us what we probably already know, or should know, but never seem to learn, namely that we are all more similar than we realize. We also get a clear sense that while it may be religion that divides many of the people of Northern Ireland, theology, spirituality or God rarely enter into the debate.
The strength of this volume would be the stories themselves. Most of them are accompanied by a photograph of the person telling the story which makes the reader see that the accounts involve actual people who lived through these horrendous years, and many are thought provoking. People reading the book will not find it a depressing work. Many of the entries are hope-filled and also show that even though there was strife and violence in their homeland, many of the young people did experience the normal joys and adventures of childhood.
Children's Experiences During the Troubles.......2000-04-26
Laurel Holliday has put together a powerful collection of sixty children's experiences during the violent and turbulent war of cultural differences known as "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland.
After posting advertisements in newspapers around Northern Ireland, Holliday received responses from both Catholic and Protestant individuals who had an experience to share about their lives during the "Troubles."
These powerful and sometimes disturbing stories show the bravery and danger these children (some of whom are now adults) faced during the conflicts prior to the cease-fire in 1994 as well as their tentative hopes for a peaceful future.
After personally experiencing New Years 2000 in Belfast, I can only hope that the peace agreement holds and that the differences between people can be embraced rather than fought. The future children of Northern Ireland deserve to experience a life of peace in a beautiful country with a tremendously difficult history.
"Children of the Troubles" is an excellent book for both adults and children. The stories are powerful and moving with photographs included of most of the children who bravely share their stories.

Great biblical insite to the Palestanian/Israel conflict and the solution.......2007-08-27
"Operation Desert Light" is similar to Brother Andrew's previous book "Light Force". Both accounts contain some very interesting points of view about the Palestinian/Arab conflict with Israel that many evangelical Christians are unaware of; especially in America. Andrew lays out some history of the region and even provides the reader with a Palestinian perspective of the situation, which I was, pretty naïve about being an American "pro-Israel" evangelical Christian. I found it especially helpful to know there are Palestinian Believers who are working and praying diligently for a peaceful solution to the bloody conflict. He boils it down to the fact that the only lasting peace for this area is if the "Prince of Peace" resides in the hearts of those who are players in this "war". Using the power of the Gospel to change not only peoples thinking but also their hearts, of both Arab Muslims and Israeli Jews, is the only key that will defuse the situation. The "Light Force" in this volatile area are the Arab/Palestinian and Jewish Believers who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is only they who can display the reconcilable power of God to bring hated enemies together as brothers in Christ. The ministry of "Musala" is just one example of how the Lord is working to bring both Jew and gentile (Muslims and ethnic "Christians") to display the glory of God to the lost.
Not only does Andrew reveal some of the roots of the conflicts as seen by both the Jews and Palestinians, he also provides us, the Western Christian; with practical ways of how we can assist in this work of recollection.
I highly recommend this book to every Believer in America, especially if you're "pro-Israel". I still support Israel but I now have a slightly different and in many ways fuller view of the Middle East conflict.
As one Palestinian evangelical pastor humbly requested said...."We don't want you to stop loving Israel, but please love us also".
How can one argue with this?? These Arab and Palestinian Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are a part of the Body of Christ just as we are. And "IF ONE MEMBER SUFFERS THEN ALL MEMBERS SUFFER WITH IT. OR IF ONE MEMBER IS HONORED THEN ALL MEMBERS REJOICE WITH IT.", 1Cor. 12:26
Engrossing account of Middle East persecuted church.......2006-01-10
Brother Andrew, well known during the Cold War-era as God's Smuggler, has been called by the Lord to go to the Middle East as friend, prayer partner, advocate, and amanuensis. Operation Desert Light tells the engrossing story of these adventures over the last several decades.
From country to country, chronologically presenting the growing story, Operation Desert Light gives intimate glimpses into the lives of endangered, dying, and dead Christians as well as others from Lebanon, Gaza, and Israel. Armed only with his Bible, Christian literature, love flowing through him from God, and God's directive, Brother Andrew lived with these people, learned their problems first hand, and sought ways to help them help themselves. He went to all who needed an understanding ear and voice: Palestinian, Israeli, and terrorist. This is not a politically-correct volume. There is no rhetoric, just a heart-stopping, direct account.
Brother Andrew tells why Christians hurt, sometimes in graphic detail, and how they help or harm each other in these terrible situations. He gives reasons why terrorists hate. He never takes any one side, sometimes even wondering how he, who loves God's people, the Israelis, can feel so much sympathy with other groups. With both tragedy and triumph portrayed, as you read this book be prepared to think the thoughts of other people, feel their desperations, and agonize as they seek the Lord's will for their lives. Be prepared to be moved out of your comfortable American way of life and thinking.
Operation Desert Light is the youth version of the 2004 book Light Force. Keeping the same narrative, important side bars and closing materials have been added.
I would encourage you to read one of these books - either Operation Desert Light or Light Force. Another good companion book to these, one which I have just recently reviewed, is Paul Meets Mohammad by Michael Licona. - Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com

Book Description
Set in a northern town where right-wingers are determined to stir up hatred and racial prejudice, six teenagers' lives are woven together by a series of shocking and tragic events. A British Muslim brother and sister, two Irish brothers who take different sides, and two lads out looking for trouble: all of them get caught in the crossfire. Inspired by the Oldham riots and the events of September 11th, this is a chilling account of current events in Britain, but written with humor and understanding.

This book is flawless.
Nothing short of stunning!
Gibons strikes again!.......2004-03-29
Well what can i say about this book? Plenty of modern issues are caught in its pages. Definately a good read if you are looking for something differant. It looks through the eyes of several people all with a differant view of the events happening in their small town. The story is woven together with great skill but its contents may not be to everyones tastes.
Superbly great!!.......2004-03-11
alright...on 1st impression..i totally agree that this book superbly great...to be frank...this book brought up many things in which many people misconstrue about other races...especially the asians (based on the book)....and yet...gibbons knows how to read beyond teenagers' mind...which i think it's brilliant...readers who havent read this book should grab one...seriously...i would rather say it's A MUST!!
