Book Description

Lupus, a disease of the immune system, can be quite deadly, claiming the lives of thousands of patients yearly. Dr. Daniel J. Wallace is one of the world's leading authorities on this disorder, an eminent clinician who has treated over 2000 lupus patients, the largest such practice in America. His The Lupus Book, originally published in 1995, immediately established itself as the most readable and helpful book on the disease. Now Dr. Wallace has once again completely revised The Lupus Book, incorporating a wealth of new information. This Third Edition discusses the newest breakthroughs in drug treatments and alternative therapies as well as updated information on the immune system--all laid out in user-friendly language that any patient could understand. Readers will discover new blood tests and new drugs introduced since the last edition, an extensive table of herbs that can be used for the disorder, and a large section on cognitive therapy and biofeedback. And as in past editions, the book provides absolutely lucid answers to such questions as: What causes lupus? How and where is the body affected? Can a woman with lupus have a baby? And how can one manage this disease? There is also a glossary of terms and an appendix of lupus resource materials compiled by the Lupus Foundation of America. Over a million Americans have lupus and some tens of thousands of patients die every year from the disease. The Third Edition of The Lupus Book offers these patients and their families a wealth of reliable, up-to-date information that will help them manage the disease and live a happier life. DT Endorsed by the Lupus Foundation of America DT A portion of the proceeds goes to Lupus research

5 out of 5 stars The Lupus Book.......2007-07-23

I was recently diagnosed with lupus. I found this book to be extremely helpful with alot of the questions I had. I would recommend to anyone who has the disease to read this book.

5 out of 5 stars If only all books about Lupus were as good as this...........2007-03-13

I have Lupus, and have bought each new edition of the book as it has come out. It's the best book on Lupus out there. Now I have also been diagnosed with MS, if only I could find a book about MS that was as concise, organized and well written as this one, I wouldn't feel nearly as "alone" in the land of MS as I do.

Thank you Dr. Wallace for such a great book that helped me navigate the uncertain road of being newly diagnosed with Lupus 15 years ago, and for the continued information you provide to all of us who have or are affected by Lupus.

5 out of 5 stars Valuable Resource from an Expert.......2007-01-09

The Lupus Book provides current information by a noted expert on the illness of lupus. I personally use this book as an "encyclopedia" whenever info is needed in my journey with lupus. It has been a comfort to be able to reach for answers to my most immediate questions. Of course it doesn't replace my physician, but it rests at my bedside ready to offer info at any time of the day or night. An invaluable resource.

5 out of 5 stars A God Send.......2006-08-28

This book is one of the best out there on Lupus. Mr. Wallace disects the disease into many parts because Lupus had many frustrating facets to it. After reading this book, I am going to talk to my doctor who does not think that I have Lupus, because I don't fit neatly into a box. I can't wait to tell this doctor that my last blood test showed the anitphospholipid levels were extremely high. I noticed it, he didn't. Thank you Mr. Wallace for naming the symptoms, and the cause of it. My "gut feeling" was right.

5 out of 5 stars I have Lupus.......2006-07-25

I have Lupus and this book is definitely informative to me. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.....

Peripheral neuropathy, the variety of conditions that result when the nerves that connect to the brain and spinal cord are damaged or diseased, is commonly associated with diseases such as diabetes, HIV, alcoholism, and lupus. This essential guide explains what is known about peripheral neuropathy, including its causes and manifestations, and what can be done to manage it. Topics include drug therapy for the condition and its symptoms, interventional therapy, alternative medicines, caring for the feet, and much more. This book will enable patients to make informed decisions about their care.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Neuropathy Understandable.......2007-08-24

Peripheral Neuropathy is a concise, inexpensive volume written in plain English. It will be useful to both neuropathy sufferers and their physicians alike.

Dr. Latov's expertise -- as a clinician, teacher, and a founder of The Neuropathy Association(www,neuropathy.org) -- is well-reflected in the text.

When both the doctor and the patient are able to discuss neuropathy knowledgeably as a result of reading this work, the disease will be better understood and managed

5 out of 5 stars Helpful.......2007-06-16

It was very informative. Author seemed very knowledgeable and credible. I learned new ideas for supplements to help my condition. Easy to read.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Quite a book, and then some, contains superb information.......2007-09-14

The book is about water and SALT. Unless you incorporate the SALT along with the water, your body will not correct the problem 100%. But if you incorporate the SALT, along with the water, and avoid the dehydrating caffeine in tea, coffee, soft drinks) and chocolate, you will not believe the results unless you experience them or are close to someone who experiences the results.

The contents of this book are amazing, and the letters from MD's confirming this discovery is too revealing of the dilemna we have allowed to persist - that of "treating" and "milking the problem" without taking the corrective steps to eradicate the problem and educate the public. The fact still exists that each one of us is responsible for what we do and for what we accept as truth. Don't take anyones word for anything, try it for yourself - you be judge, jury, and prosecutor. Are you not already the victim?

This a most remarkable book, and along with Dr. Batman's earlier book, "Your Bodies Many Cries For Water", answers the questions we all ask, and for which the answers will not come from the NIH, AMA, and "support" groups for asthma and many if not all others. Dr. Batmanghelidj calls it the "Sick Care Industry". And why will the simple answer not come from these institutions? Simply because "there is no money in it" - there is no money in water and salt. But there are billions in "treating" asthma, allergies, cancer, lupus, ms, diabetes, and the list goes on.

Use your God given head, and your God given common sense.

What's the first thing given to patients when admitted in the hospital due to severe illness of any kind?

Yes, great guess, a SALINE SOLUTION DIRECTILY INTO THE BLOOD.

Cause it's the best thing for your sick body.

Hello? Hello? Hello? Is anyone out there? Is anyone listening? Is anyone using their God Given Common Sense?

Get this book and READ IT, and DO IT.

Then see if you don't start to look around you and begin to ask "uncomfortable" questions.

Get on the web and search for water cure, salt cure, etc.

And, by the way, if you believe what you find on snopes as if God Himself had written it, then you will have a difficult road to travel.

5 out of 5 stars Great but dont stop here.......2007-02-20

I have developed Infectious Asthma from an Upper Respiratory Infection a couple years ago. The Water helped alot, but if anything cures it, it will be the 12 week Zithromax regimen advocated by Dr.Hahns research. Search for Infectious Asthma on the web to find the regimen. In a nutshell, I take 500mg Zithromax for 1st 3 days, then for the next 11 weeks, you take 750mg of zithromax one day per week. After the 2nd day of starting the regimen, I feel much much better and the symptoms have all but disappeared.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing much needed information.......2006-11-22

How often have we heard the advice through our lives to drink at least 8 glasses of 'water-water' (as opposed to other beverages) per day? How many of us do? I thought I was drinking enough since I always seem to have a glass in my hand as a lifelong habit, but after actually counting glasses for several days, I realised I'm coming up a little short every day.

Just that one change of conciously drinking more water and getting a little salt every day has made me feel immensely better and diminished many of the symptoms of dehydration that I never knew about before Dr. 'Batman's book came to me. A great book! It's connected so many other things together for me that I already knew about health and nutrients. Startling and yet such a simple sensible idea.

5 out of 5 stars Yes, it is hard to accept but it has relieved my asthma greatly.........2006-05-26

After a lifetime of being told that salt is bad for me, I finally let go and started to use celtic sea salt liberally (as prescribed in the book). At first I only drank the water, but adding the salt completely maximized my progress. At 4 separate times this past weekend, I stopped my own asthma attacks at each onset. It took me about 7-10 minutes each time. It took alot for me not to use my inhaler, and to just give the water & salt a chance to work. I am extremely grateful and rather emotional about it, since I thought I would be on my proventil inhaler for the rest of my life. The inhaler has caused a number of side effects, and I am now planning a detox to remove the residue of this drug from my body, which I've been dependent on for more than 27 years. And I've only been doing this seriously for 2 weeks, (and getting better with each day). I thank "Dr.B" for giving me my health back (along with hundreds of others whose testimonials I've read on the www.watercure2.com site). These are the same testimonials I was so compelled to read again and again, because I just could not believe and accept that something so simple could cure this disease that left me so weak and scared about the future of my health. Not to mention, very likely preventing other diseases I would be on the road towards. I suppose this is my own testimonial, because it really happened, and I hope that readers searching for an answer will forget their fears (that it won't work) and try it. Yes, it is still hard even for me to believe...even though it continues to work for me. But I do know for sure that I will never stop Dr.B's water & salt prescription. I will say this - if you want your health back, just take it back by taking action.

1 out of 5 stars Very Poor.......2005-09-06

No real info other than what I already knew. There was a small two sentence reference to the info I was seeking. A real rip-off! I'm going to return the book.

I wish I'd purchased this book when I was first diagnosed with SLE in 1991. This book shows specifically how the disease attacks each organ system, relevant research, and treatment. In essence, it can help the patient know when a sypmtom is serious (e.g., chest pain), and help them know the best questions to ask the rheumatologist to maximize their treatment.

"Toxins, which are all around us, are at the root of many auto-immune diseases. They lurk in our clothing, our furniture, and in the products we use every day. Our bodies make heroic efforts to eliminate the toxins, but sometimes the burden is just too much. Get the facts on: . Bottled water: Toxins from the plastic bottles can leak into the water. Use a water filter instead. . Plants: Did you know pollution-reducing plants, including mums and spider plants, can remove chemicals such as formaldehyde and benzene from the air? . Toxins in your home: Carpets, furniture, plastics, foam rub-ber, upholstery, tiles, linoleum, paint, and varnishes emit hazardous chemicals into the air. . Safe pest controls: Use boric acid and heat instead of toxic pesticides. . Radiation: Protect yourself from the dangers of microwaves, computers, cell phones, televisions, power lines, heating pads, electric blankets, and more."

The "trick" to the "drug free" therapies for each category listed is basically the same, and people concerned about what they eat and personal health already know this stuff. Searching the internet for information on these disorders is more helpful than this book.

3 out of 5 stars Alternative Treatments for Autoimmune Conditions.......2007-03-01

For me, this book was a more holistic supplement to Mary J. Shomon's book, Living Well with Autoimmune Disease. It is logically formatted and is an easy resource for the specific condition about which one wishes to learn. The plus is it offers medical treatment and counters with non-drug treatment options for autoimmune conditions. A glossary and an appendix add to its value as a resource.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book.......2006-05-05

Don't let the previous review scare you. The quackwatch guys are the quacks themselves. Barrett, who heads up the quackwatch "research", is not a board certified doctor of anything and has been sued a bunch of times. The book itself is excellent and describes a treatment protocol that works. This protocol brought me back from near death when no local doctor could even figure out what was wrong with me. The protocol has also significantly helped our son who has autism. The "best" specialists told us there was no treatment for our son's autism and he would be permanently institutionalized by the age of 7. However, like many autism kids doing biomedical treatments, including those listed in this book, he has almost recovered. He's now 8 and attends a regular school where he performs on grade level. The treatments in this book work. It's definately worth a look.

This believable book is authored by quacks - read this website first http://www.quackwatch.org/11Ind/edelson.html I thought this book would help my daughter but instead mislead us. The Edelson Center is closed and the doctors are being sued.

Book Description

A comprehensive guide to noninvasive, nontoxic therapies for lupus--written by a lupus survivor.

• The only book to focus on alternative therapies for lupus.

• Includes therapeutic approaches drawn from the fields of naturopathic medicine, nutritional medicine, environmental medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, nontoxic dentistry, energy medicine, and psychological healing.

• Lupus affects more than four million Americans and does not respond well to conventional treatments.

More than four million Americans (90 percent of them women) have been diagnosed with systemic lupus erythematosus, a chronic, debilitating disease of the autoimmune system that manifests itself with extreme fatigue, arthritic pain, rashes, and a host of other symptoms. Add to that the fact that lupus is notoriously difficult to diagnose, and the number of potential sufferers grows. Sharon Moore lived with lupus for several years before doctors finally put a name to it. The only therapies offered to her were pharmaceuticals--toxic drugs that could control or suppress some of her symptoms but couldn't cure her disease. Dissatisfied with this approach, she set about researching alternative treatments for her condition. Nine years later her health is greatly improved, and she has written this book to share the most effective natural healing techniques with other lupus sufferers.

Chock full of specific, scientific, well-documented evidence on effective alternative treatments, this book is a godsend for anyone suffering from lupus. Moore provides a comprehensive diagnostic checklist and helps readers identify the possible causes of their illness, from environmental toxins and dental amalgam fillings to compromised liver function and poor nutrition. She offers ways to nurture the mind and spirit when living with chronic disease and shows readers how they can rebuild their lives. Equally important, she writes with the understanding of someone who's been there.

4 out of 5 stars A good book from a sufferer.......2005-11-13

This book is written by Sharon Moore, who suffered from SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythomatus or simply called Lupus) and who was told that it is an autoimmune disorder and she may not recover from it. She did recover from it by studying alternative approaches to health, which she describes well in this book. Her story is spread over 13 chapters and an epilogue. She talks of the effect of liver on health, diet and health, nutritional supplements, herbs, beneficial fats and oils, toxins in food, problems from toxins in dental work, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mind-Body Therapies, Caring for Your Spirit and interestingly the last chapter, "How to Begin" a good road map. The epilogue is a good graphic portrayal of her recovery from a debilitating illness.

I found the book readable in general but some sections are a little more technical, which may need additional reading. Fortunately, the author supplements her book with Suggested Reading and Resources. An index is also added to enable you to return to a specific topic easily.

I would suggest that you should read the Introduction, My Story, What is Lupus and Your Liver, followed by a quick read of the rest of the book. When you reach the chapter How to Begin, you would know whether these approaches are for you. If you are convinced that Sharon's suggestions will work for you, read that chapter carefully and follow the advice given by Sharon. The epilogue should keep giving you courage and perseverance when things look a little bleak.

I found her suggestions on the treatment of depression (which is a natural complication of any chronic health problem) with Multivitamin supplements, B Complex, DLPA and tyrosine (detailed on pages 75-76) very interesting and very useful. I am painfully aware of the problems of B 12 deficiency and associated problems.

I have no hesitation in recommending it to you if you or your people need a good resource book on the alternative approaches to the management of Lupus or other autoimmune disorders. However, each person has to find his/her own path to recovery. The problem is not just in the body, but in mind and in spirit.

About the reviewer: I am a physicist and a metallurgist, not a medical man. Thus I am a lay reader as far as health books are concerned. However, I have been deeply interested in health (partly because of my own health challenges) for long. I have studied Homeopathy, Biochemic (Schussler's) Tissue Remedies, Bach Flower Remedies, Reiki (I am a certified Usui Reiki Master Healer), Crystal Healing etc. I would strongly advise you to seek the advice of a health professional when trying to add any alternative health system to your treatment protocol.

1 out of 5 stars Not really a lupus book.......2002-06-05

Reader beware. Except for the second chapter ("What is Lupus?"), this book isn't really about lupus. It is, rather, a somewhat haphazard introduction to naturopathic practices by a lupus sufferer who happens to be a competent writer.

I picked up this book because I wanted to learn about lupus-specific health practices. I did not want to read a diatribe about unrefined sugar, or hormones in beef, or pesticides in produce. I already know these are bad things. I did not expect nor want to read a weak defense of homeopathy based on quantum mechanics.

There are annoying contradictions in the book, for instance, whether to include or omit soy in the diet:

page 141:
"Determine to find organically raised meat. If that is not possible, move to eating soy products for protein [...]"

page 55:
"Other foods lupus patients may need to avoid include peanuts, soybeans and lentils."

Although Ms. Moore has a negative attitude, perhaps rightfully so, about caffeine, her touting of gota kola and ginkgo biloba as replacement stimulants puzzles me. I find them just as jarring as caffeine. Many of the claims in this book seem to be in the realm of the purely subjective, or at best highly speculative.

In the recommended reading section, only 3 of 25 books are about lupus. This is a fair representation of the (low) percentage of this book that is likewise specific to lupus.

Lastly, the 4 glowing Amazon reviews prior to this one are all from people who live within a few miles of Ms. Moore. They are apparently heartfelt but perhaps not unbiased.

I truly wish the author well. But as someone recently diagnosed with a serious illness after a lengthy and frustrating diagnostic period, this is not the book I wanted or expected.

Readers wanting to read an anecdotal, non-scientific and perhaps "emotionally uplifting" (as one reviewer claims) story may find this book a good choice.

The first book in any lupus collection, though, should be Daniel Wallace's The Lupus Book.

5 out of 5 stars A Very Valuable Book, Whether Suffering from Lupus or Not........2001-01-08

Sharon Moore's book combines many valuable attributes. First, it tells a fascinating story of the author's search to discover the nature of her frightening illness. I could sense that, in spite of being so ill, she was determined to discover the most effective therapies to bring the disease under control. In the process, she has done an enormous amount of research that she shares with her readers.

Anyone, whether suffering from lupus or not, can benefit from the research she has done and that she so competently reports to her readers. While her purpose is to reach out to lupus patients, her research is so broad that any person interested in alternative approaches to the promotion of physical, mental, or emotional health can learn and benefit from this useful book.

Her approach is detailed and scientific, yet easily understood. In addition, it is an interesting story about a very interesting individual who has lived an extremely interesting life.

Above all, she makes clear her hope to reach out to others who suffer from lupus so that they can benefit from what she has learned and find themselves recovering from this debilitating disease.

5 out of 5 stars A Welcome Book.......2000-11-16

What a welcome book for those of us with chronic and debilitating health conditions! From the outset, the reader can feel Moore's empathy come through. This is an affirmation for us and a small antidote to the social isolation that is common in us. The experience of reading her book is the experience of receiving support and encouragement. We are not alone!

The content of Moore's book, in addition to being emotionally uplifting, is also helpful in a more concrete way: She describes in readable prose an avenue each of us can take, can tailor to our individual needs and preferences, so that each of us can take control of our lives and our healing. In addition, we find ourselves educated along the way by a woman who is knowledgeable about the human body and its intricacies and who is able to communicate with us lay people about our health concerns.

I especially enjoyed the way Moore described her "journey," her method of systematically trying out non-mainstream therapies and evaluating their effectiveness, ultimately coming up with a menu of treatments that works for her. She offers tools each of us can employ so that we can decide what works for each of us as individuals.

Moore ties together her recommendations in her final chapter on how to begin and offers a succinct, detailed process in which to do just that. Instead of being left overwhelmed, I loved having a way to actually get started.

5 out of 5 stars Review of "Lupus-Alternative Therapies That Work".......2000-11-03

Sharon Moore's book provides a gripping saga, detailing her encounters with a painful and confusing illness. As her desperate search for a cure evolved, she examined both the historical and scientific backgrounds of numerous alternative therapies. Her tenacity, curiosity and indomitable spirit led her to a hard won victory over this debilitating disease.

A complete Guide for Women with Lupus

The Lupus Handbook for women provides all the information a woman needs to understand the disease, its diagnosis, and the treatment. It will answer her questions and help her to work with her doctor in managing the disease.

Rheumatologist Dr. Robin J. Dibner, in clear and supportive terms, tells women what they need to know, including:

* What lupus is, how it affects the body, and why women are particularly vulnerable to it (90 percent of Americans with lupus are women)

* The three different types of lupus (discoid lupus, systemic lupus erythematosus [SLE], and drug-induced lupus)

* How to get a correct diagnosis and understand the tests (because the symptoms are often mistaken for those of other illnesses, it can take three to five years to get a definitive diagnosis)

* The pros and cons of the various conventional drugs and therapies

* What the new, experimental treatments are, whom they are for, and what their risks and benefits are

* How to use stress control, diet, and exercise to prevent flare-ups and maintain health

* How to keep lupus from interfering with a normal dating and sex life and with the development of healthy relationships

* How to have a safe, though high-risk, pregnancy

The Lupus Handbook for Women also includes information on the major lupus research centers, support groups, and other sources of help and information.

4 out of 5 stars Good for Couples.......2006-08-28

This book was an excellent source of information. While Daniel Wallaces' book is by far the best written on Lupus, Ms. Dibner writes with passion, and she offers good advice. I read this in one sitting.

5 out of 5 stars Very Good informative book.......2002-11-06

I thought this was a good book for anyone who is trying to learn more about lupus. I have had the disease for many years, and still found things I was not sure of. I would reccomend it to others for sure. I would also recommend Stolen Moments, as it shows someone living with lupus in a differnt way. Both are excellent books for lupus patient to read.

4 out of 5 stars Lupus Handbook For Women.......2001-10-16

A comprehensive book, although it could go into more depth in areas. The page numbers are on the binding side of each page, which makes it difficult to thumb through to find anything.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Help.......2000-05-22

I borrowed this book from the library and I just had to buy it. I have read a lot about lupus since my diagnosis 4 years ago. This is the most useful resource I have found yet. It explains the disease and possible causes, and also gives information on the tests that lupus patients routinely undergo.

4 out of 5 stars Good Book.......1999-11-28

Although this is a non-fiction book, it was very helpful in understanding the disease. Another book that does even a better job of this is the ficitonal novel, Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher . ..Ms Fisher has lupus and wrote this book with her heart! A fantastic read/ edited by her lupus specialist. ..It is enertaining, and captures every emotion known to men and women. And excellent book, meant to be shared. For sure you will love it.

Book Description

Lupus affects an estimated 1.5 million people in the U.S.—90 percent of whom are women—but due to the diversity of its symptoms and severity, it remains one of the most difficult conditions to identify and diagnose. In the tradition of the other titles in the First Year™ series, The First Year™—Lupus uses a unique approach—guiding readers through their first seven days following diagnosis, then the next three weeks of their first month, and finally the next eleven months of their first year—to provide answers and advice that will help everyone newly diagnosed with lupus come to terms with their condition and the lifestyle changes that accompany it. Starting with the day of diagnosis, Hanger provides vital information about the nature of lupus, choosing the right doctors, treatment options, coping mechanisms, holistic alternatives, and much more. The First Year™—Lupus will be a supportive and educational resource for everyone who wants to take an active role in the management of their condition. Although Lupus is not preventable or curable, this illustrated book explains how symptoms can be treated through prescription medications and self-management strategies.

5 out of 5 stars Extremely informative.......2006-03-27

I really loved this book. It was very informative and it helped me better understand my desease. It also has helped my family members to better support me during flares and different symptoms of Lupus.

Easy to read and for an recently diagnosed lupus patient is a great coping tool, it explains symptoms and feelings that you might be experiencing and that you had no idea were related to your Lupus.

I recommended it to everyone diagnosed with this desease and anyone who needs to undertasnd what we go through.

5 out of 5 stars Important Information Every Newly Lupus Diagnosed Patient (and their friends and families) Needs to Know.......2006-03-20

I found this book very informative and it helped me personally answer many questions that I have had about how I'm feeling, not only now, but for many years. I found that I personally had many of these symptoms for the past 20 years, yet it took the medical profession to finally give me a diagnosis after being hospitalized for over 2 weeks with zero white count, bone marrow suppression, and many other symptoms in this book. I was tested for every disease from HIV to Hepititis B & C, all negative and 3 bone marrow biopsies that were incluclusive as I did not have enough bone marrow to test and my red cells and platelets started depleteing. As a friend put it I had a Text Book Case of Lupus, yet, my rheumatologist couldn't give me a Lupus Diagnosis until I finally had a Full Blown Lupus Flare Up, although, 2 years ago I did have a postive ANA test, they had to wait for the flare up, which did not occur until 2 and half years after my hospitalization. This book is not only helpful to the patient, but to their families and friends also. I copied many sections to give to friends so they could better understand what I was going through. I also ordered more books for family members, so they also could understand why I act the way I do or feel the way I do, but also Lupus can be hereditary and I believe we all need to better educate ourselves with our familie's medical histories. I believe this author did a very well and informative job on educating those people who are newly diagnosed with Lupus.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for all lupus patients.......2005-08-27

This book helped me so much and I have been diagnosed for over a year. The author explains everything so that it is easy to understand and is very thorough. You are supposed to read the book throughout the year, but it took me four days. It read almost like a novel.

5 out of 5 stars Definitely Essential!.......2004-06-29

Many thanks to Nancy Hanger for outlining the things that a Lupus patient needs to know. She organizes the information in such easy bites that it doesn't overwhelm you. The explanations are clear and the information is valuable. So many doctors rely on information (or misinformation) based on what they learned about Lupus back in medical school twenty years ago. Even some rheumatologists dance around the diagnosis, the symptoms, what you should be told. Nancy Hanger spells it out clearly.

If you are newly diagnosed, or even if you've had Lupus for a while, this is A Must Read. Thank you, Nancy Hanger.

5 out of 5 stars Great book for those newly diagnosed........2005-10-10

The "New Hope for People with Lupus" was very informative. It is an easy format to follow and helpful for those newly diagnosed or reading their first book on Lupus. The coverage of both traditional and non-traditional therapies was solid. I recommend this book for those who are new to Lupus.

2 out of 5 stars Unimpressed.......2003-09-07

I am a person with a possible diagnosis of Lupus, looking for information about the disease. While I found Dr. Wallace's handbook on Lupus very helpful, "New Hope" was full of silly platitutes and assumptions about my experiences of the disease (trying to be funny and sympathetic, but not mirroring my experiences at all--I found it rather condescending). It did not cover in depth alternative therapies as I had hoped.

5 out of 5 stars Informative and optimistic.......2003-04-01

This a good book for any Lupus patient. I have SLE and found this book inforamtive, but it is interlaced with optimism and cases of people who were able to reduce their symptoms. It has everything.. the basics, meds, alternative therapies, coping and relationships, tips on what to ask the doc. This is a good book.

5 out of 5 stars Best Lupus Book on the Market.......2003-03-13

Being a long time Lupus sufferer, I've read and have every book known to man. This book explains everything you've ever wanted to know about Lupus, very elouquently. Applause go out to the author, Theresa DiGeronimo. If you are or know someone who suffers from Lupus, this is the best book on the market.

5 out of 5 stars Best of all the MANY books about lupus.......2002-07-20

As a lupus sufferer who's read just about every book ever written on the subject, I found this to be the definitive book on a very complex subject. Digeronimo covers the realm of symptoms, treatments and complications thoroughly and with warmth and compassion. If you've just been diagnosed with lupus, or know someone who has it, this is the book for you! Congratulations to the author on a job well done.
