cute but big.......2007-08-12
This is a really cute shirt but my six year old (she is small for her age, but...) "swims" in it. It's really big on her. I wish it came in different sizes!
My Eight year old loves Junie B.......2007-07-10
my 8 yr old absolutely loved wearing this t shirt. I wish there was more stuff geared towards unisex items as he is male but simply adores her. I know there are dolls out but wish there were other clothing items. The shirt has held up through several washings now but I hope they will make it a little larger or give more than 1 choice. It is still a great product.

Junie B. Jones: First Ever Junie B-Shirt (A Stepping Stone Book(TM))
my 6year old loves junie b books and just loves the B- shirt she would wear it every day if she could.
NOT A BOOK.......2007-05-17
I thought this item was an actual book. It listed the Author! It said a stepping stone book. What I got was a t-shirt. There was even a review....Beware when purchasing this item if you are looking for the book!
Great product for the Junie B. Fan.......2007-03-29
I bought this as a surprise gift for my 6 year old daughter after she sucessfully read an entire Junie B. Jones book by herself. She was thrilled and wears it all the time. The quality of the t-shirt is very good. The image looks like it will fade pretty quickly. But I imagine it will work until she outgrows it. I recommend this product highly.

Book Description
Murderers, mob bosses, and convicts . . . these guys are not your average neighbors. Unless you live on Alcatraz. It's 1935 and twelve-year-old Moose Flanagan and his family have just moved to the infamous island that's home to criminals like notorious escapee Roy Gardner, Machine Gun Kelly, and of course, Al Capone. Now Moose has to try to fit in at his new school, avoid getting caught up in one of the warden's daughter's countless plots, and keep an eye on his sister Natalie, who's not like other kids. All Moose wants to do is protect Natalie, live up to his parents' expectations, and stay out of trouble. But on Alcatraz, trouble is never very far away.

kcs shirts.......2007-10-05
Moose Flanagan, he is a 12 years old boy, he is a kind person compared to the kids of Alcatraz some are trained well because there children of the gaurds and he loves baseball. Moose was forced to live here because of his mother and his dad he is one of the gaurds there too. Moose gets scared his first night because he never knows when a murderer might show up. The island of Alcatraz is not where you want to live because that is where all the worst of the worst go like murderers and full on gangsters that will kill you no matter what. So Moose has to fit in at this island, not be tricked by this girl Piper, and keep his young and imature sister out of danger. I thought this book was intresting. i would recommend this book to middle schoolers or people who like out door books or who likes reading. I learned how it is to have a younger sister.
"If you love someone, you have to try things even if they don't make sense to anyone else".......2007-07-28
Moose Flanagan and his family arrive on Alcatraz Island in 1935 so his father Cam can work as an electrician and guard at the prison and his sister Natalie can have a chance to attend a "special" school for children with Autism. At the time it's not called Autism, but that is what the reader of today is lead to believe. Moose is caught in the middle of Piper the wardens daughters' schemes and her mad drive to meet Al Capone and his mothers desperate need to get Natalie into the only school that can help her. Moose is the only one that can really reach Natalie and the decisions and realities that the family has to face can just be too much for a 12 year old boy. Maybe Al Capone is his only option.
My class really enjoyed Al Capone..........2007-06-28
I used this book in a three week summer school course with eighth graders. I needed a high interest but easy to read novel to catch their interest. AL CAPONE DOES MY SHIRTS was a great choice! They found the setting of Alcatraz very interesting, and they really loved the well-developed characters, especially Moose and Natalie. There are many, many teacher resources for this novel available on the internet. Using ideas from the internet and adding my own personal material, the unit was very easy to plan and carry out. The students wrote daily journal responses to questions relating to various aspects of the book (ideas for prompts are available on Scholastic's web site).
We did some background study which I think added to the students' enjoyment and understanding of the novel. We watched a biography of Al Capone, and we did an internet scavenger hunt to research two topics: Alcatraz and Autism. Doing this early on helped provide context for the students.
The characters in AL CAPONE DOES MY SHIRTS are probably the most interesting aspect of the book. My students seemed particularly fascinated by how Natalie, the main character's sister who has autism, changes and develops through the story. They could really relate to a lot of the things the protagonist (Moose) goes through, even though he lives on Alcatraz in 1935. To me, that's the power of a great book -- it contains themes that are universal. I would highly recommend this book for middle school students, whether it be as a group study or individual reading. It has a great ending too!
Al Capone Does My Pants Is Super.......2007-05-24
Al Capone Does My Shirts
I liked this book because it has some comedy and it talks about what some kids would actually do because it is a real place.
Other kids might like this book because they might want to learn a little bit of history or they might want to laugh. If you like cliffhangers you will really enjoy this book.
The book had a lot of cliffhangers and thought provoking scenes. It also talks about Alcatraz Island.
This book tells how Moose's dad gets a job on Alcatraz Island as a prison guard. This book also tells how Moose and his friends try to get Moose's sister, in to a private school called the Esther P. Marinoff.
Al Copone Does My Shirts.......2007-05-22
I loved the book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes comedy/history books. I liked the book because I thought it was funny and entertaining.
Someone else might like the book because you learn about convicts that lived on Alcatraz. Someone else might also like it because you learn a little about autism in this book.
The book had a lot of facts about Alcatraz. The book was funny at times but at others it wasn't. You should read this book because it is funny, entertaining, and educational.

You had me at, "Dragon shirt, please.".......2007-06-22
My husband, son, and I enjoy Max and Ruby stories. When we read the first page of this story, when Ruby comments that Max's pants are "disgusting", all of us laughed. We were hooked.
Rosemary Wells has done a great job with giving her characters such distinct voices without using a lot of text or explanation. This is a short, light-hearted read as are Wells' other Max and Ruby stories.
an adorable book/series.......2006-07-06
I love reading Max's dragon shirt to my son, Maxwell. We loved that all these books have his name in them! They are cute and fun, and I enjoy reading them too!
My Daughter's Favorite.......2006-06-26
This is another cute story by Rosemary Wells. As expected my daughter who's a huge Max and Ruby fan likes it, but I was surprised when it became he favorite book and is read every night.
Adorable New Max and Ruby Book.......2004-10-29
At the request of their Mother, Ruby decides to take young Max to the mall to buy him a new pair of pants. However, Ruby quickly stumbles upon a collection of beautiful dresses that she just has to try on. So she heads to the dressing room, young Max in tow. But while she's trying on dresses, unbeknownst to her, Max has wandered out of the dressing rooms and into the Boys Department, where he finds a fantastic green t-shirt with a picture of a fire-breathing dragon on the front. He wants it more than anything, yet Ruby insists that there is not enough money for both new pants for him, and a new shirt. But since Ruby is trying dresses on, Max sees no harm in trying the t-shirt on himself. Soon Max is picked up by two police officers, wearing the dragon shirt, which is now covered in ice cream, and big sis Ruby has no choice but to purchase the shirt for the little rascal.
I have seen the MAX AND RUBY television show on Nickelodeon on numerous occasions and had found it extremely cute, but had never read one of the books. So when I came across MAX'S DRAGON SHIRT, I decided to check it out, and I am happy to say that it was utterly adorable. Rosemary Wells captures the essence of how young children think when they are in department stores with her wonderful prose, while her illustrations show the numerous cute expressions that cross their face as they experience something new. This is an adorable new children's book that will be quickly loved by both parents and their young children. Especially if those children are fans of the MAX AND RUBY television show.

A book...........2004-01-18
...that I don't get tired of reading to my 4 year old daughter at bedtime. It's a fun, cute book and I just love Max and Ruby.
Book Description
Whether it's a city park, a suburban backyard, a farmer's field, or the sandy seashore, there's a treasure trove of natural art materials out there. Twigs, vines, pinecones, flowers, leaves, rocks, shells, moss, feathers - they're all gifts of the earth. Add just a few inexpensive store-bought items, such as glue, string, and wire, and anyone can create beautiful, natural works of art.
In NATURE'S ART BOX, writer, gardener, and nature-crafter Laura C. Martin offers 65 cool projects kids will love to make, using materials they can find just about anywhere. She explains how to make paints and inks from flowers and other plants; how to use shells, moss, seedpods, and cones to embellish large objects; how to build elf-sized furniture; how to decorate picture frames, birdhouses, and keepsake boxes with woodland treasures; and how to dig clay, weave vines, and make natural dyes to color T-shirts.
While Martin teaches kids to see the possibilities of the natural world, she also teaches them to respect what the earth offers. She warns them against stripping bark off live trees, plucking every flower in the field, and clearing the ground of every nut and seed. NATURE'S ART BOX helps kids learn to be good artists and conscientious stewards of nature's resources.
Customer Reviews:
Great kids nature craft book!.......2007-09-10
First of all, you have to remember that this is a KIDS craft book. :-) My two boys have both really enjoyed doing crafts out of this book. They are 12 and 8 yrs. A lot more in depth than other nature craft books I have seen for kids.
Wonderful Nature Crafts - Great projects.......2006-02-19
Here in the Northeast US, we're still gripped by the icy fingers of winter. Hopefully, spring will come soon. Meanwhile, I'll while away the gray days with Nature's Art Box, a sturdy and well-written hardcover book with 65 nature crafts projects for kids. This book is appropriate for parents, teachers, home-schoolers and group leaders. It's a nature crafts course for educators in a cosy, attractive book. The book is divided into several sections based on different types of natural materials:
* Vines, Twigs, Cones, and Moss
* Gourds, Pods, Husks, and Seeds
* Clay Stones, Sand, and Shells
* Paints, Inks, and Dyes
* Flowers and Leaves
* Stamps, Stencils, Molds and Seals
The introduction and appendix are full of helpful information on gathering materials and other crafts supplies to create the projects. The projects vary in complexity - some are very simple, and others require adult supervision. Safety tips and instructions are plentiful.
Here's a sampling of the 65+ projects included:
* Bark and Moss House
* Angel Ornament
* Okra Pod Canoe and People
* Sand Painting
* Shell Buttons
* Homemade Natural Paint
* Fern Print
* Dried-Flower Fairy
* Leaf Rubbing Gift Wrap
Right next to this book on a shelf, I picked up a nature crafts book that was lovely to look at, with elegant design and great photography. But the projects were scanty and simplistic. This book is the antidote - it is full of information, projects and ideas. You will turn to it year after year, season after season. Highly recommended.
don't buy.......2005-11-03
I love creative ideas especially when the materials used are abundant and easy to find, unfortunately there is more creativity in the illustrations of this book than the ideas for crafts (I give it one star for this reason alone). This book proves that ANYONE can publish a book. Don't waste your money on this.

"There they were, without a word to say to each other.".......2005-06-11
Dorothy Rothschild Parker's malicious wit, mordant humor, and cynicism are brilliantly revealed in this audiotape narrated by Elaine Strich. With a gravelly voice appropriate for the wearied New York lives she portrays, Strich imbues "Big Blonde" and a host of other stories with attitudes of the late 1920s through the early 1940s, showing the arrogance of men in relation to women, the voluntary subservience of the women, and the shallow goals of socially conscious people whose primary concern is recognition by each other.
"Big Blonde," her most famous story, describes how Mrs. Morse, a large blonde woman, finds happiness in her recent marriage and homemaking, only to find her husband becoming less interested in her as she becomes more domestic and less "exciting." Mrs. Morse's downward spiral into drink and an eventual suicide attempt parallel Parker's own life. "Too Bad" tells of the Weldons, an upscale couple who seem to have a perfect marriage, except that they can no longer find anything to say to each other, largely because the wife has become a bore. "Song of the Shirt" tells of a wealthy woman of "great heart," who volunteers to sew hospital robes for wounded soldiers but is unable to help the unemployed mother of a polio-stricken child.
"Mr. Durant" continues the emphasis on the arrogance of men, as the title character has an affair with a naïve employee who becomes pregnant and loses her desirability. "Diary of a New York Lady" details the shallow social activities, the theatre going, and the repetitive parties of a woman with too little to do. The funniest, most tongue-in-cheek story, "The Garter," tells of a character named Dorothy Parker who is stranded on the couch at a major party because her garter has broken and she can't get up without losing her stocking.
Parker adds much ironic humor to these stories of failure. She is cruelly critical of women who let men determine their destinies, mocking both their pretensions and their lack of imagination, but she also recognizes that they have little choice and few opportunities to escape their lot. Equally critical of men, she finds their interest in women selfish and often limited to the bedroom. Sardonic, ironic, and cruelly observant, Parker creates tragedies masquerading as social comedies and comedies of almost unbearable pathos. Mary Whipple
Revealed the good old days weren't so good........1999-05-06
I often think we spend so much of our time wishing we lived in a kindler, gentler time -- a time past when things were simpler. Dorothy Parker's stories made me realize that life is life and it ain't easy, no matter what the year. The reader's smoky voice is perfect for the collection. As she told each tale, I felt as if she were reaching right into my chest and clenching my heart in her brightly-manicured grip. The stories are revealing. I found myself haunted by "Mr. Durant" days afterward. I can say that I came away from this collection changed in some way. How, precisely, I cannot say. It is too soon to tell, since I just finished the last story yesterday. I do recommend them, however, if only to show readers of this day how very different life in Dorothy Parker's day.

A playful journey into a child's imagination."In my new yellow shirtI am a duck quacking,splashing through a big puddle of sun.Watch out! Now I'm a taxi-- HONK! All 4 of my grandchildren loved the book, Eileen really relates to children and she is the best.
What a cute find!.......2006-01-16
We discovered this book almost by accident, and a happy accident it has been. The title turned up as if by magic as a suggestion when my wife was searching for some totally unrelated titles...the eerie part being that our son's favorite color is yellow! Obviously he loves the book. It does a great job showing a child what a wonderful thing an imagination is; it's great for stoking imaginative play. I heartily recommend it, even for kids who prefer blue, or green, or red, or orange...
My 18 month old LOVES this book.......2003-06-03
This book is wonderful. It uses words my daughter is now beginning to learn and understand, and reinforces it with pictures. I highly recommend it!
Mellow.......2001-11-06
When the author's son, Sean, was about four, he got a new yellow shirt and thought that he was a banana. In this picture book, the author thinks of that incident and tells the story of a boy and his friend, Sam. The birthday boy gets a new yellow shirt from his Aunt Betty. He puts it on and he is a splashing duck, a roaring golden lion, a zooming taxi, a daffodil, a fish, and a lazy bug. He is many other things set in a variety of scenes, even a trumpet in a parade, and a thumping banana in a kitchen. As night falls, the shirt must be taken off, but it becomes something else that will illuminate the night.

Great ideas!.......2002-09-24
Are you one of those people who requires paint-by-number picture kits, and dotes on full step-by-step Martha-style craft instructions? If so, don't bother with this book. If, however, you are capable of finding information on basic techniques once you realize that you want to try them, the many different great ideas in this book are just the thing! I would never have thought to tie-BLEACH a garment before dyeing it, for wonderful lightening-bolt effects, for example. All I need is good pictures of good project ideas, with a little info on what types of techniques and materials to use; I don't need someone to hold my hand and murmur reassurances as I go along. I was amazed to see another review of this book dismissing it for doing what it does so well!
A picture book.......2000-04-16
This book is great for looking at great designs but hardly one to use to create a t-shirt. There is no in depth directions to make any of these t-shirts. I was interested in making new designs for my t-shirts (tie dye) and this book is totally useless. You really have to guess at what they are doing since there are not many directions to follow. For example: They tell you to use c-clamps to secure it between wood- well how is it positioned, what size wood ? Everything is very vague in the directions. They show only one picture of folding a t-shirt and that doesn't show you anything of how to position it. I have been tie dying for 10 years and hoped for more in depth directions to create new designs. I guess it is back to the drawing board for me. I wish I hadn't wasted my money on this book. I can go to many web sites to look at great designs if I just wanted a collection of pictures. Very disapointed in this one......

Book Description
The bowling shirt is a unique work of art. With patterns and colors as varied as the bowlers who wore them, bowling shirts reflect a time when Americans loved their big cars, drive-ins, bowling alleys, and flashy clothing. This book showcases a wonderful collection of bowling shirts, each with its individual art work. In over 600 color photographs, the shirts are displayed alphabetically by manufacturers. Embroidery and design detail, manufacturers' labels, and special features are shown along with a complete description and value guide. Drawing on over twenty years of collecting experience, the authors have assembled some of the best bowling shirts of this era. This book is a treat for anyone interested in the beautiful art created for the sport of bowling and for collectors of vintage clothing.

Beatiful shirts and truly a great book!.......2000-08-08
Definitively: this book is a keeper! Whether you are a bowling aficionado or just a occasional player. You will love to browse through Joe Tonelli`s book. Beautifully coloured and well researched he takes the reader through a journey of textile decades full of creativity and beautiful "paintings" of the bowling sport. To put it in a nutshell: This is the definitive answer any bowling shirt fan could ask! Schiffer Books has once again done a great job. The company that collectors love for their extensive catalogue on nearly every subject is also well known for their perfect execution on a topic and "Bowling Shirts" is no exception to that rule.
You better go and grab a copy fast, you`ll never know how long it will be available and you may soon find yourself searching the antique book stores for a copy demanding extensively high prices.
And there is no other title of that subject (at least one that I know) which makes the choice so easy: Go for it!!!
Ohter titles of similar interest: Hawaii Shirts from Schiffer Books is a perfect companion to the above reviewed one. It also adds nicely to any collection.

Book Description
This 400-page book features hundreds of colorful examples of the T-shirt at its legendary best, from its humble origins as an undergarment to its current star status as a classic piece of clothing worn by billions around the world. Originally designed as a piece of men's underwear, the T-shirt exploded in the 1960s and has since taken on a whole new meaning. The T-shirt shed its undergarment role and became the perfect forum for political and creative expression. The Tees have been worn by everyone - men and women, old and young - and through the silkscreen process have become an international, unisex medium for every possible type of message. From the brooding image of Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire to the revolutionary call of Che Guevara, this book chronicles the myriad uses and images of the T-shirt. With playful photographs and engaging text, The T-Shirt Book mirrors our social history as it traces the evolution of the shirt from 1960s tie-dye to Madonna mania, and beyond.

You'll use it one or twice - maybe.......2006-11-22
Very disapointing book, very little in the way of in depth design research. More of a novelty item, coffee table book than a useful referance guide. Like so many design books, a great concept that does not deliver.

Nice books for ideas.......2000-12-01
This a nice simple book on how to start decorating your T-shirts. The instructions are simple but I would have had the sample pictures near the instructions instead of at the end. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it for beginners, it inspires you to give is a go.
Big on Ideas! Basic Techniques........1999-08-03
Interested in designing your own T-shirts but can't decide between techniques? This is a fun book --providing basic techniques for tie-dye, marbling, batik, stamping, and more. The illustrations are wonderful and inspiring. The instructions are really simple. Within days of purchasing this book I was dyeing and painting a handful of hand-me-down baby clothes. Serious fun!
