I first read this book when my daughter was 6 months old, she is 27months old now and still loves reading the book. we play act the book now, and she's full of laughs.

5 out of 5 stars Fun book every time we read it!.......2007-07-19

This book is so cute as you peek a boo look for mommy on each page. What a cute and fun book the kids love this one everytime!

5 out of 5 stars Oooooh, where is she?!!!.......2007-04-17

Toddlers will love this fun story. It has a hint of mystery as Baby searches for its Mommy. This is a unique way to teach kids the process of elimination as the illustrations rule out each place where Baby's Mommy is not hiding in anticipation of the exciting reunion between Baby and Mommy.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-11-11

Though my Son likes books of all kinds, he absolutely loves this and other Karen Katz lift-the-flap books. The illustrations are so simple, colorful and bright. After having read it a zillion times, he still is not tired of smiling everytime he finds mommy!

3 out of 5 stars Where is Baby's Mommy?.......2006-08-07

My 20-month daughter absolutely loves this book. Lifting all the flaps and being suprised everytime to see what is behind them. Always when she finds the Mommy I say " There's mommy" she looks at me with her big brown eyes and says "NO" and points to me and says "Mommy". The book is absolutely ADORABLE.

This book is really cute and a lot of fun! It has some of the most complex popups in any children's book! The surprise doors are a wonderful treat, too.

5 out of 5 stars Great Pop-up Book!.......2007-08-23

This is probably the greatest pop-up book I've ever seen. I just recently got this as a birthday gift from a friend and I really love it. It seems a little fragile though...not sure if I would let a kid play with it...they would rip it apart in a few minutes.

These are, hands down, our daughter's favorite books. She enjoys them over and over. The illustrations are bright and cute -- highly recommend these books -- especially the lift the flap -- she LOVES them.

5 out of 5 stars Baby's Box of Fun.......2007-05-13

I purchased this book set for my grandson when he was 12 months old. Listening to books is the only time he actually sits still. His favorite book was Toes, Ears, & Nose although he likes all the books because they are interactive. The only problem with the books is if he is left unsupervised or even when holding him, he rips off the flaps in the books. We have had to glue them back on numerous times. I would highly recommend these books but you must be careful with babies that are aggressively interactive with the books.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!.......2007-03-28

I have not received this yet. I was waiting for this because I believed the seller will send me an another copy. But now It's been more than 90 days so I can not even get my money back.
Not a big money but doesn't feel good at all about the seller's feedback.
Will see if the seller will contact me about this item or not.

Book Description

Ask any mother and she will tell you there are just not enough hours in the day. By the time she has fed, clothed, and bathed the children, read Curious George for the 100th time, cut the crusts off the PB&J sandwiches, and removed the ground-in dirt from the play clothes, she does not have time to create a detailed scrapbook of each of her children's lives. It's no wonder that so many elaborate baby books remain incomplete, their pristine pages adding to the guilt and inadequacy that many moms already feel. That is why The Mommy Journal is so perfect for today's moms. It offers a quick and guilt-free way to record the special moments of childhood. Space for each entry is only about three inches long and undated, so there is no pressure to write lengthy narratives or to journal every day. In less than five minutes, mothers can quickly jot down the moments they want to remember forever. Plus, unlike traditional baby books, The Mommy Journal lets mothers record memories of all their children in one place.Charming illustrations of toys, hearts, and animals grace each page. Every few pages contain a bit of parenting wisdom such as, "The best thing you can give children next to good habits are good memories." Instructions for fun activities moms can do with their children, such as make edible finger paint from instant pudding, are included as well. The Mommy Journal will become a treasured keepsake, both for the mom who creates it and for the child who receives this precious record of childhood.

5 out of 5 stars Such a great gift from mommy to her little ones.......2007-10-07

This book was given to me as a gift when I had my little girl. I have chronicled her life, and my love for her, in snipits for 2 years, and now am doing the same for my little baby boy. (I bought it for myself when he came along). It is such fun to do and to read through. Had I not been writing things down as I went along I know they would have been lost forever in my memory banks. My daughter loves to have it read to her, both about herself, and about her baby brother. What a neat thing to offer to your child so they know who they were in these tender years, and how much they are loved!

5 out of 5 stars Love This Journal.......2007-08-07

As a mother and a writer, I was so pleased to receive this book as a gift upon the birth of my daughter. I jot down my daughter's firsts, special events, how she reacted to new things (ie cereal, a new toy), my feelings about returning to work following maternity leave etc. Since the entries are self-dated I can write as often or as little as I want. I wish there was a similar book for dads. My husband adds tidbits here and there for our daughter to read someday.

2 out of 5 stars Not what I expected.......2007-06-08

I thought this book would have guided letters for you to write to your child on different topics, but its not. its basically 3-5 blank spaces for letters per page. I returned it.

5 out of 5 stars Pregnant and ordering one for my second child.......2007-06-06

A great journal that is designed for you to write a few quick lines and save all the amazing, funny moments that are otherwise all too quickly forgotten. Every time I write I read a few of the old entries and realize that as much as I enjoy them they would have already been forgotten in all the clutter of a busy life. I am ordering a second journal for our second child. Would make a great gift for a new mom!!!

5 out of 5 stars you have to have it.......2007-05-19

This was given to me as a baby gift for my little one. I try to write in it at least 2-3 times a month. And every time I add a new entry I read the one from before. Its just such a great thing to have to help us remember all the little phases our kids go through and to know that one day they will read them. I recommend this to all moms especially the ones that are expecting. I loved it so much I got one when I had my second child.

Recommended by critics from every industry including- entertainment, medical and literary! Such as The Rosie O Donnell Show - Entertainment, National Oncology Nursing Society- Medical, Today's Librarian, Midwest Book Review, Against the Grain, Today's Dallas Woman and other literary reviewers across the country!

Told through the eyes of it's title character, Tickles Tabitha's Cancer-tankerous Mommy uses candor and comic reality to dispel stereotypes and acknowledge some moody truths faced by families LIVING with cancer.

"Mommy's wig was still attached to her head, but she didn't look so good. The wig-hair stuck out like snarled rat-tails in all directions. There was a crooked horizontal line right where her smile should be. Worst of all she was in no mood to play Tickles Tabitha."

A poignant and humorous account of a Mommy's moodiness, caused in part by the medicine she must take to cure her cancer. It's about a family that loves one another, minus the sap. Instead it reads like it could be your family; not the family you think you ought to be. Expect young readers to ask to be tickled until their faces turn pink!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Your kids know.......2006-05-18

Beautifully illustrated, the story offers a child's perspective of mommy's cancer-tankerous moods during cancer treatment.

I'm of the mind that children should be given details about issues faced by families. It's naive to assume that by shushing conversations within ear shot of kids, they will be kept protected from the truth of illness.

Cancer treatments are no picnic in the park. Amelia makes that clear in her book, without sacrificing the clear message of love for her family. If you are a mom going through cancer treatment, I would highly recommend this book.

This review is posted on my blog. www.breastofcanada.blogspot.com

4 out of 5 stars Helpful, realistic look at having a parent with cancer.......2005-11-20

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer this year, one of my girlfriends bought this book for my daughter. I recommend it highly. Side effects of chemo (and their accompanying steroids) have made me, like Tickles' Tabitha's mom, cranky and tired and shorter on patience than I would like to be, and this book takes those problems and presents them as temporary setbacks; the book reminds children that things will not always be grouchy, and that a mommy with cancer still loves her child even when she's not up to the usual fun and games. This book has been useful to our family, our daughter enjoys it... and it's helped us to normalize a situation that is anything but normal.

5 out of 5 stars Helps kids understand how illness can affect a parent's mood.......2005-01-28

Tabitha's mother has cancer and has to undergo chemotherapy. The treatments make the mother's hair fall out and give her a huge appetite. Worse still, the treatment makes her tired and irritable. Tabitha misses their warm tickle games. Tabitha, her brother and even the cat get frightened when their mother gets angry. When their father sees this, he uses love and humor to help provide support. Tabitha finds a way to get her mother to show her old warmth.

The superb illustrations are warm and expressive. When the picture shows the shadow of the angry mother, wig askew, standing over Tabitha, one really gets the sense of how Tabitha experiences her mother just then.

Mood changes are more difficult for children to understand than the more concrete aspects of an illness. This book does an excellent job of showing how these mood The story is realistic without being scarey. This book would be good not just for children of cancer patients but also for children of parents withother chronic diseases such as Hepatitis C. A variety of illness and treatments can cause an individual to be irritable or moody.

5 out of 5 stars Uses humor to deal with sensitive issues.......2004-11-28

My 6 year old daughter loves this book. Her mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and this book deals with issues like crankiness, which is relevant in her life right now. It also covers hair loss, which she is particularly interested in. (The tickling helps make the book more fun, too.) I would recommend this to those who like to add some humore to a bad cancer day.

5 out of 5 stars "a special book".......2001-10-04

I really enjoyed Tickles Tabitha and how this sensitive topic was portrayed. It really hit home and helps children along during a difficult time.

Book Description

Why Mommy is a Democrat brings to life the core values of the Democratic party in ways that young children will easily understand and thoroughly enjoy. Using plain and non-judgmental language, along with warm and whimsical illustrations, this colorful 28-page paperback depicts the Democratic principles of fairness, tolerance, peace, and concern for the well-being of others. It's a great way for parents to gently communicate their commitment to these principles and explain their support for the party.

Why Mommy is a Democrat may look like a traditional children's book, but it definitely isn't just for children. With numerous subtle (and not-so-subtle) satirical swipes at the Bush administration and the Republican party, the book will appeal to Democrats of all ages.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The truth is..........2007-10-12

This is a little gem of a book that attempts to teach good basic values to small children. The pictures are nicely done and the text has that lyrical quality necessary in any good children's book.

I find some of the negative reviews a little scary. Do these people thing that Bush Republicans are FOR health care for children? Do they believe Bush Republicans are AGAINST the rich at the expense of the poor? Or do they just believe these things are too scary for little children to hear?

Maybe of more of us had learned these things when we were young we wouldn't have one of the highest infant mortality rates among western democracies and Bush in the White House. Just maybe...

5 out of 5 stars love it!.......2007-10-11

even though my husband and i do not yet have children, i jumped at ordering this book. i love the illustrations and of course the content - go dems!

1 out of 5 stars No wire hangers!!! (It's legal now!!!).......2007-10-07

The main reason this book was doomed to failure is for the sole reason that Democrats do not have children, they abort them!

Check out these other books in the series:

"Mommy, why didn't you even give me a chance to prove my worth?"

"Mommy, what are those loud egg-beater like blades grounding me up?"

"Mommy, why am I dead already?"

"Mommy, why are my remains being used by Michael J. Fox to help keep him alive?"

Why? because "Mommy dearest" didn't love you enough to let you live, now stay in the medical containment bag like a good little fetus!

1 out of 5 stars yet another excuse for me to remain a registered independent.......2007-10-04

This book is ridiculous. Democrats are no more "moral" than Republicans are. Anyone who tries to use the word "moral" in the context of a political party is a fool. This book oversimplifies the problems our country is facing today much like "Help Mom There Are Liberals Under My Bed!" does. While Katherine DeBrecht's right-wing hogwash is essentially a more polite form of Ann Coulter-esque outrage, this book is class warfare and militant political correctness repackaged for grade schoolers (it will change the way they think about squirrels, at least).

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-08-31

This beautiful book teaches the young ones that only Mommy Government can solve their problems. That's why Mommy Government is always "making sure" that you do whatever Mommy Government asks, or Mommy Government will put you in prison.

But don't worry, Mommy Government will solve all your problems and is always there with another suckle at the government teat. One day soon, Mommy Government will control everything, just like she does in North Korea, and a wonderful, risk-free utopia will blossom where every day is a happy ending.

This book is the perfect antidote for children who are threatened with a society full of dangerous temptations like Walmart, freedom of speech, or even (gasp!) religion. When your child asks about these things, sit down with this book and re-indoctrinate your budding Marxist on the wonders of Mommy Government.

If the book doesn't work, well, you can always threaten them with a trip to a gulag.

5 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Interactive Reading.......2007-09-20

These books are a must-have for all babies! The artwork is adorably colorful, and the interactivity of the flaps makes reading more fun; it gives baby something to do while you read.

5 out of 5 stars Great books.......2007-05-25

Our daughter fell in love with these books around 6 or 7 monhts and still gets excited and selects them over others at 14 months. She has learned so much through them too! We have many of Katz board books with the flaps, and are so happy the author is so prolific. Our daughter likes them all, but the 4 here are her favorites (and "What Does Baby Say?"). Keep them coming!

5 out of 5 stars Great for the family.......2007-05-21

These books are a great way for everyone in the family to feel appreciated and loved. They make the reader (grandmother for example) feel even more special. I love them.
They're also sturdy enough for my 9 month old to play with and chew on. These aren't his favorite books (that's Violet's House) but they're still great.

And I love that it's cheaper to buy the set than it is to buy the books individually! :) I love book sets.

5 out of 5 stars karen katz books.......2007-03-21

My daughter is 14 months old and she LOVES these flap books. She has many books, but these are her absolute favorite. We have several sets in fact. I carry them with us in the diaper bag...there are some in the car...at Grandma's house....she never gets bored with them. We read them several times a day!!!

Although some mommies drive motorcycles, and others drive minivans; some mommies go fishing while others go shopping, all mommies want their children to be who they are. That's Todd Parr's story, and he's sticking with it (as reinforced by his It's Okay to Be Different, This Is My Hair, and lots more funky, friendly picture books). Using his trademark style of brightly colored stick figures, with bold outlined smiley faces for heads, Parr portrays a world of diversity and peace in his simple, esteem-boosting titles. Moms are celebrated here (naturally, you'll find dads in The Daddy Book), in all their traditional, eccentric, athletic, hip, nurturing glory. Each spread shows moms doing their thing: dancing moms opposite swimming moms, short-hair moms next to big-hair moms, and work-at-home moms across from work-in-big-buildings moms. The refrain is that all moms love their kids: "All mommies like to hang out with you!" "All mommies like to watch you sleep!" The Mommy Book is reassuring and fun. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter

My daughter is 18 mos and LOVES the colors and simplicity of this book.
I enjoy the colors too. Really bright, brilliant colors. We enjoy reading this book.

5 out of 5 stars Inclusive but not Preachy.......2007-04-11

This is a sweet book. Mommys do all sorts of things, and this is a great book that sneaks diversity in while we're not looking. It's tender and light hearted.

5 out of 5 stars Great author!.......2006-03-21

We just discovered Todd Parr from a Kindergarten teacher at my school. With a diverse family it is so great to see his work so that my young daughter can see that there are many kinds of families and people.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Colorful Book..........2006-02-08

Todd Parr books are so colorful and have great messages attached to them. This book does not disappoint. The pictures are simple and vibrant which really caught my daughter's attention. The message attached is great because it shows diversity among mothers. I recommend all of his books.

5 out of 5 stars Such a sweet book!.......2007-01-09

Our baby has enjoyed "Daddy Hugs" since he was five months old, and Mommy wanted equal time, so we bought "Mommy Hugs" for Christmas -- another hit! The baby loves the Karen Katz books. He listens intently as we read them, looking at the colorful illustrations. This book holds his rapt attention until we reach 9 hugs, at which point he knows bedtime is coming and gets antsy! This is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it.
