Smart Girl's Guide Review.......2007-05-14
My daughter's love this book. Although it doesn't give a "how to" on budgeting, it does give a solid understanding of how to make and save money by being careful on what to spend their money on.
Another great American Girl book!.......2007-05-09
The quality of the A.G. books are always great! Age appropriate and full of different information to help the child learn about that subject- hoping for a daughter that loves to save money after reading this book....wish me luck!
Every girl should have this book!.......2006-10-02
This book was awesome! It talked about saving, spending wisely, credit cards, starting a business and much more! I got this book and it helped me so much! I also use it as a reference book. I think every girl should have it. Go American Girl!
Extremely educational, extremely fun!.......2006-08-07
"A Smart Girl's Guide To Money" is an inspiring book and really teaches girls- or any person- to save money. It also explains about bank accounts, interest, and other important things needed for life. Everyone should read this educational, wise, and fascinating guide.
It also introduces girls to having a job, keeping track of money, and just plain being responsible. That, I think, is a wonderful thing to promote. I loved "A Smart Girl's Guide To Money" the first time I looked into it. Every girl should read it; it's really a remarkable book!

Awesome book on hearing and seeing God.......2006-12-02
I heard this book read by one of the Pastor's at our church at a Freedom session. Of course, we were at this Kiaros session because we needed freedom from various things. This book is about hearing and seeing God. It encourages children (an adults) to listen for and talk to God; as well as, enjoy a loving relationship with Him. I know most of us even as adults struggle with hearing and talking with God. I highly recommend this book for the children in your life, but for adults as well.
Children see Jesus.......2004-03-08
This book encourages parents to assume that children already have an acute awareness of Jesus in their lives. Why would we allow ourselves (even unconciously) to suppress that? Let's encourage it, and reap the benefits over the years!
I just began reading this book to my children, age 3 and 5. I have already been amazed at their perception of Jesus. They see Jesus with them virtually all the time, and he's always telling them that he loves them!
This book has opened up some unique conversations that I otherwise might not have thought of having with my children.
Try it with your kids, you'll be amazed at what they have to say bout Jesus. (One of my children sees Jesus in Clifford pajamas!)
Book Description
The remarkable true story of one father's race against time to found a business that would cure his sick children.
John and Aileen Crowley were on top of the world. With a brand-new Harvard Business School degree, three beautiful children, a new house, and a great job, they thought that they had just entered the best years of life. Then doctors diagnosed their two youngest children with Pompe disease, and everything changed.
Fifteen-month-old Megan and five-month-old Patrick were given only months to live. Pompe disease, the Crowleys were told, was so rare that no company had bothered spending the money needed to sponsor research. There was no cure, no treatmentonly the gradual degeneration of muscle so that at the end, the children would be unable to walk, eat, or even breathe on their own. It was a nightmare the Crowleys could hardly comprehend.
But John Crowley refused to accept this death sentenceand in the absence of other options, he made his own. Determined to find scientists who could develop a replacement enzyme that would keep the disease at bay and his children alive, Crowley quit his job as a financial consultant and invested himself and his life savings in a biotechnology start-up company. In just over a year, Novazyme Pharmaceuticals, Inc., went from an endowment of $37,000 to $27 million, and was sold to Genzyme Corp. soon thereafter for a news-breaking $137.5 million. But the struggle wasn't over yet, and scientific setbacks, accusations of conflict of interest, business troubles, and the children's own worsening condition would test the limits of John and Aileen's minds and hearts as they fought towards a cure.
With deft prose and devastating clarity, Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal reporter Geeta Anand weaves together the disparate threads of this remarkable story of cutting-edge science; of business acumen and daring; and of the indomitable fighting spirit of a family that refuses to give in.
Heart-wrenching yet triumphant, The Cure takes readers from the boardrooms and laboratories to hospital beds and kindergarten classrooms. With its captivating and ultimately deeply uplifting narrative, The Cure is a wholly American story of commerce and technology, of determination and daring, and of family and the power of a belief in happy endings.
Customer Reviews:
A well written captivating story.......2007-02-10
The story of John Crowley and his family is amazing. Anand did a great job of telling the story in a way that I could feel what the family was going through and the business challenges that John took on.
Great book!.......2007-01-05
This book gives great insight into what parents of terminally ill children experience and the lengths they will go to to save those who are the most important people in their lives. A must read, especially for those who have any similar experience!
Just a great read.......2006-11-10
As a father of small children and a businessman I really enjoyed this book on multiple levels. Very well written. I could not put it down. Watch out, it made me cry several times.
A book about love.......2006-10-17
Ms. Anand tells a wonderful tale of true love. Love of a husband and wife faced with unexpected challenges so early in their marriage, and how they struggled to keep that love alive under both sad and horrific conditions. Love of children for their parents and each other. Love of family, both immediate and extended. And love for each and every person touched by the fight for the cure. I was swept away by the human drama and just when I thought I knew what was going to happen next, the story look another unforeseen turn. It's amazing to realize that this is a true story. Life and love doesn't get any better than this.
It makes you think and it makes you care.......2006-10-13
This wonderful book has a lot of emotional depth and complexity. John Crowley, the young father, is brash, brilliant, arrogant, and ignorant. He makes personal mistakes and business mistakes, yet you remain drawn to his story by empathy for his desperation as he fears that his small children will suffer a slow painful death. It's an honest and interesting portrait of a real human being, not a one-dimensional hero.
It's not really a business book and you don't need any familiarity with venture capital financing to understand the text, but John Crowley's business provides the book with a fascinating emotional contrast between his frantic urgency as a parent and the dispassionate PowerPoint analyses expected by his investors. They share a common goal, but the mindset is completely different.
It's not really a science book, but the drug development process adds to the story's drama. There's no Eureka! moment when all the problems are solved. Patients are desperate for anything they can get as soon as they can get it, but the science is ambiguous, the bizarre biotechnology manufacturing processes are difficult to operate, and then the clinical trial results are uncertain. An experimental compound might kill a young patient, or bring quick improvements that fade over time, or have different impacts on different patients. And even with these uncertain prospects there's strong competition among parents for the extremely limited number of places in trials.
One of the most appealing aspects of the book is the author's light touch. She never puts herself or her opinions into the story. The book ends with an Afterword relating events subsequent to the basic text, but the author doesn't seize pages to tell us what it all means. At the end I found myself wondering, "Well, what does it all mean?" I looked up Pompe disease information on the internet, wondered what people in the Pompe "community" thought about the book, and wanted to know how the science has progressed. The book makes you think and it makes you care.

Customer Reviews:
Not for young children........2007-08-14
Although the cover shows a young girl and a young boy on the back cover who appear to be 7-8 yrs old, in my opinion this book is not for 5-8 yr old children. It is too complicated, the computer work, editing, layering, templates, internet, webpages, etc, are more appropriate for 8-12 yr old kids. It should clearly indicate (on the front or back cover) what age child it is for. We bought it for a 6yr old, by the time we hang on to it for 2-3 yrs, digital photo technology, software, will likely have advanced... The book would be good for older kids.
Kids guide to digital photography.......2007-03-16
Wonderful guide for kids, and those of us who are starting with photography. Great descriptions and clear directions.
great book for kids or beginners.......2007-02-07
this book covers the basics. easily written for a kid to understand. my daughter is 11 and that seems about the right level for her. i wish it covered more setting up a good composition. it covers the basics on camera use and scanners and fixing photos after in the computer. i wish photo books would stick to teaching how to take good pictures and not so much on fixing them up in the computer afterwards, but every book seems to spend a lot of time on that. overall, its the best book i could find for a kid. it's written in language that i think they will relate to well.
Wow! What a Great Book!.......2006-07-23
While there may not be a "perfect" guide for digital photography, this one comes as close as I've ever seen.
It covers everything from choosing a camera (and how to get the most out of it) to editing, printing and even using the web.
It even covers areas that many adults seem to have problems with, like the "Reality Check" regarding built in flash.
Focus, composition, exposure and even ISO are all covered. Granted, some subjects are just touched on rather than discussed in depth but remember the intended reader. (In my case, my 12-year old.) If the kid really wants to learn about any given subject there are countless specialized books to be found.
Overall I have to say that I highly recommend this book.
I'd even go so far to say that I would even buy it for an adult, especially one that might be a bit technophobic.
Book Description
How does a cookie-baking Rat named Bob save his tail from being gobbled by two hungry cats? By serving them cookies and telling them
fantastic fairy tales about his family, of course. There's the story about great-grand uncle Mustard who upgrades his family to a lovely three-bedroom brick house. (All's well until some wolves with snout-warts show up.) And there's the one about how starving Grandma Lois was forced to take a job spinning straw into gold. (Impossible to do . . . until a hairy chimney troll comes along.)
With allusions to classic fairy tales, plus a storytelling rat to rival Scheherazade, this book—which also includes black-and-white illustrations, a family tree, and a map of Bob's neighborhood—is sure to hold both cats and kids captive.
Customer Reviews:
Absolutely Captivating!.......2007-05-10
Guaranteed to capture the minds and imaginations of your children. This is a collection of wonderful short tales as told by Bob, the cookie-baking rat, in his clever effort to stave off two very hungry cats... The stories are short enough to keep the attention of toddlers and allow for breaks... oh yes, did I mention the cookie breaks? Another wonderful work by children's author Mary Hanson!

helpful & interesting.......2007-08-26
we purchased this book for our daughter when she was 6 and she and our son (4) enjoyed it tremendously. they were able to see how the characters in the stories lived out their faith and applied the biblical lessons to their lives. the stories in this book have very short ones (1-2 pages) and it also has stories that are a bit longer in length 4-5 pages. these stories continue to touch the hearts of the others at our church in our sunday school classes. we like to use a bible story that has the same topic as well and it has helped to enrich the topic.great for ages 4-14 & adults too!

Customer Reviews:
Not much substance.......2005-09-07
I bought this book hoping to get informed guidelines on handling emergencies involving children, while waiting for the ambulance - or even what to do or not in cases that might not merit a call to 911. However, the entire book could be summed up in one sentence: "Call 911 and sit tight." The author goes into all kinds of details, but I could not extract much in the way of emergency response, other than to sit by the child, reassure him/her and wait for the ambulance.
A must for parents.......2003-07-28
I just finished reading it. It is a must!. Covers what to do while 911 arrives and what to expect when you call 911 the role and expertise of the different health care workers you are bound to encounter and what they can do for you. Besides of the mandatory CPR overview it includes tidbits of the author experience that make reading it again worthwhile.
It also informed on the gap between states on EMT service providers certifications and capabilities. It also made me wish for another certification that will train persons to perform CPR and intubation since breathing is so important.
Great read, well written, clear, concise, not chatty, and a possible life saver. Despite of this I hope reading it was waste of time and never faced with the need to call 911.
Perfect Gift for Parents-to-be.......2003-06-04
Am I ever impressed. This book will be the first on my list for Baby Shower Gifts. This book is comprehensive and covers many unthinkable emergencies. Every parent or parent-to-be should read this from cover to cover and then keep it in a handy place for easy reference. Put an extra copy in your glovebox. Written from the point of view of an experienced EMT, the first hand life-saving information is invaluable.

A how-to guide to help parents recognize and heed the warning signs of today's hip culture, including threats that weren't around 20 or 30 years ago.
Customer Reviews:
Trying to cash on worried parents.......2005-09-18
The author is just trying to cash on moral panic and the natural concerns of parents with a sensationalistic histerical piece that is misleading, non factual and completly useless for any practical purpose.
/sigh.......2004-04-28
I have one thing to say to this crap. Jesus save my tattooed old school goth behind from your followers. What a silly, hysterical woman. I am more concerned about saving my daughter from people like her.
Hohoho........2003-08-14
I have to say that this is possibly the most sensationalist misinformed piece of tripe I have ever come across. I agree fully with all of the other reviews and their comments. Not only is this the worst type of religious scaremongering (before you bible bashers start I am a good Catholic boy, educated by priests anyone) I have seen in a long time, it's just plain offensive to anyone who indulges in the odd piuercing or enjoys dance music and raves or God forbid...dresses in black (catholic priests). I think this books sales rank speaks volumes for it. The author must be quite worried about the state of the world today when books about bestiality are selling more than their guide to emerging threats. In brief...if you want to completely distance yourself from your children, if you do not want to understand their problems in the most important years of their lives, if you are fundamentalist, sensationalist or just ignorant to other cultures and lifestyles then this book is for you. If on the other hand you are a normal sane human the only good this book will serve will be to scare you away from organised religion and it's draconian beliefs forever.
horrible.......2003-05-02
...
Not only is this woman preaching hysterical and wildly inaccurate attitudes towards what most of us parents consider to be a pretty important aspect of our lives (the growth of our kids into decent adults) the ridiculously over the top diatribes and fundamentalist doctrines she spouts, if taken seriously, could easily blind a parent to the real issues their teen is going through.
Frankly I think the attitudes expressed are dangerous and could be highly detrimental to a growing teen if taken seriously.
...
pie?.......2003-03-25
this book promise pie, it have no pie, i blame teen culture! oh no!! hehe
