Welcome Guide for Parents.......2007-09-19
Having read a number of books on parenting, this book was found to be the most inspiring in terms of causing us to reach to God. As Christians we are called to walk by faith in every area of our lives. This book shows us how to be loving and strategic in our parenting whilst reaching to God in faith believing for our children also to walk with Him.
Teenagers.......2007-08-09
Reading parenting books takes time of which parents have little. This book has been encouraging and convicting- well worth the time. I highly recommend Age of Opportunity to any parent!
Parenting Teenagers.......2007-07-09
GREAT BOOK.
If you enjoyed "Shepherding a Child's Heart" and desire to train your children to be thoughtful and caring of others in their heart - not just training behavior - you will love this book. It looks at the great opportunity we have in the teenage years to help them see their self-centeredness and trust in Christ to be transformed.
Get to the heart of the matter.......2007-01-30
This is the best book I've read on parenting teens from a Biblical perspective. Tripp helps parents think about what the heart issues are, not just control the external behaviors. If you're interested in taking the time to use the trials of life to point your child to the gospel of Christ, this book is for you.
Great Resource.......2007-01-19
As a young pastor who does not have any teenagers of my own, this book has been a great resource to hand out to parents. Tripp's book has really helped open many of our parents' eyes to the wonderful opportunity for discipleship through the teenage years.

Product Description
This comprehensive guide is a great resource for those looking for facts and research to support their decision not to vaccinate. This parent manual features current research articles from peer-reviewed medical journals, vaccination support groups listed state by state, lists of controversial vaccine ingredients, exemption forms, and a section refuting commonly held vaccination beliefs point by point. A copy of the slides from Dr. Tenpenny's DVD entitled "Vaccines: The Risks, The Benefits, The Choices" is also included. An excellent reference for defending your vaccination position with in-laws, friends and even your pediatrician!
Customer Reviews:
I wouldn't recommend this to most people.......2007-09-27
This is not a *bad* book; there is good information in it. However, I did not find this book to contain substantial information that I had not already found in other books (Neustaedter, Cave, etc.) Perhaps it would be better with the DVD, but I think it's overpriced as a book. The powerpoint slides section was a real bummer, too. It's obvious that the slides were prompts for a lecture... I was left wondering what else she might have said.
It reminds me of a college textbook... I paid too much for it to throw it away, so it's gonna sit on my shelf "just in case" I *might* need an obscure reference one day.
this is a workbook for her seminar -- not a regular book.......2007-09-13
I was expecting a regular book with lots of great and current information. This turned out to be a workbook for her seminar. The second half of the book is her powerpoint presentation! The first half gives some links and resources for you to do your own research, and has some information. But, it's hard to read because it's not structured like a regular book with chapters and written in a sequential way. It literally is a "resource guide".
While there was some helpful information in there for me, IMHO it's not worth the $35. Maybe the DVD is better or maybe this book makes more sense in conjunction with the DVD.
I recommend Neil Miller's "Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective" instead. It has a lot of the same information and is organized for people who want to learn about vaccinations from a book, who are not attending Dr Tenpenny's seminar.
Far Superior to the Majority of Vaccine education books!!!.......2007-02-06
I own both the DVD and the Resource guide. Even though I've inspected many other books on vaccines, Dr. Tenpenny covers it the best. She really gives practical information on vaccination background and what concerned parents can do to protect their children. She covers what rights you have to abstain from vaccinations (some states like California is fairly friendly, other's like Texas are more militant), etc., or what you can do to decrease the odds of your infant/childr being harmed if you must submit to a vaccination. Very excellent coverage of the material.
Dr. Russel Blaylock has a very good vaccine chapter in his "Health and Nutrition Secrets that can save your life."
Not all "vaccine" books are equally good, some (like Stephanie Cave's book) are terrible, even giving credit to vaccines for the tremendous drop in desease outbreaks that occurred PRIOR to the respective vaccines being introduced. Makes one wonder what other payrolls she might be on.

Brilliant!.......2007-09-15
I've been on a children's book and/or education kick, which has meant discovering for the first time the world of book guides for children. My intention is to only *buy* books of lasting home-library value; everything else, and there must be so much, can come from the public library. This book has exceeded all others in advising on what references, storybooks and educational resources belong in the home of a child who loves learning.
I recommend the NYTimes Books for Children and the The Read-Aloud Handbook book as well, but it's the Hirsch book, specifically the "Core Collection" recommendations, that has led me to the most interesting learning materials!
I also love that he's not afraid to refer to or at least mention quality out-of-print materials. What good is the Internet's vast book culture if not to find out-of-print materials that are wasting away on a back shelf in some store across the country? For example, he mentions a history series by Olive Beaupre Miller. I found a woman in Texas who was selling her set, they came yesterday, and man am I ever jealous! How come I didn't get to read those when *I* was younger? Another example of why I think OOP book should not be ignored in these kind of guides is a treasure I stumbled upon in a used bookstore the other day. "A Classical Storybook" by Morris Bishop is a treasure trove of Greek and Roman stories from the histories and poetry of the era. Enchanting! I went online, and as it turns out Morris Bishop was BFF with Vladmir Nabokov, was a hugely important Romantic literature scholar and apparently an altogether lovely man. Suffice it to say, I have ordered the medieval, Renaissance and Romantic storybooks for my children as well. If more reader guides mentioned these treasures of the past, I believe the spike in demand by interested parents would lead many of them to be reprinted. God love the profit motive!
Anyway, back to Hirsch: I'm relatively comfortable when it comes to identifying quality resources in the humanities, social sciences and liberal arts, but I'm a little foggier when it comes to most kinds of science and mathematics. I was thrilled to see that Hirsch gives those subjects their due as well, and I've already been thrilled to discover through him H.A. "Curious George" Rey's amazing books about constellations, astronomy and the night sky (The Stars: A New Way to See Them, Find the Constellations). What a treat!
I've been scribbling all over this book, taking notes, starring items and dog-earring pages. I can't say that's the case for most of the booklist books I've read, although expositionalish :) introduction to the Read-Aloud* guide will definitely been getting multiple reads from me.
Anyway, this book is highly admirable, and I hope it, itself, has many printings, revisions, expansions and future editions to come. Invaluable.

Millionaire in 365 Days: The Daily Plan to Get There
You have to help the kids, since the schols will not...here the the guide to all the sources.
Worth every penny.......2006-03-06
This book is a must-have for teachers and librarians, but most importantly, for parents who want a culturally literate child. As a teacher (grades 4th - 12th), I recommend the Core Knowledge Series by the same author as the framework for home schooling. Please don't wait, parents! Get this book and start collecting these resources! You can't rely on any school to teach your child all they should know. If you are reading this, you are a conscientious parent. Your child's school may well be focused on teaching basic life skills such as manners and self esteem, because not all parents are conscientious. After all, parents are ultimately responsible for their child's education. Even if you aren't home schooling, get this to help you supplement your child's education. Get the "What your K/1st/2nd...6th grader Needs to Know" books, too. You will be amazed at how much these books enrich your child's education, and ultimately their life.
Very helpful book.......2005-04-01
This book is very nice to have if you homeschool. It is very easy to use and a great resource. It is broken into curriculum areas including Visual Arts, which has really helped since I did not know much about the subject.
Books to Build On.......2005-02-25
This is a useful book but one I don't believe you need to spend your money on as it is available at the library for free - and it's not a book you need to refer to daily or even weekly. Check it from the library, make yourself a list of what books it lists that you need from that, and return it.

Fantasy Baseball and Mathematics: Student Workbook (Fantasy Sports and Mathematics Series)

Book Description
A great new way to get all kids excited about math!
Fantasy sports are a hit worldwide, and now teachers and parents can take advantage of this phenomenon to give students a reason to look forward to doing math. The games and activities in Fantasy Baseball and Mathematics will get kids excited about learning and practicing math, even if they're not big sports fans. With this fun-filled educational resource, you can teach one math concept or many, and plan lessons that can last for a week or a whole season.
Here's how it works. Students create fantasy teams by picking real-life professional baseball players, and then follow their players' statistics and calculate their teams' total points using algebraic or nonalgebraic methods specifically designed to complement the math skills they're learning. The instructions are easy to follow and the dynamic hands-on games address all learning styles and abilities. The book includes more than 100 scoring systems that give you the flexibility to customize the content according to your students' skill levels.
In addition to the basic Fantasy Baseball game, the book contains easy-to-use lesson plans, reproducible worksheets for extra practice on 46 different math concepts, graphing activities, quizzes, a pre- and post- test, and an answer key. More than just a fun way to learn math, the book's activities also support the NCTM Math Standards.
"The Fantasy Sports and Mathematics programs allow you to reach the students, making the lessons not only comprehensive and enriching, but very exciting. The students loved it, worked harder than ever, and their GEPA scores increased over 40 points in the first year alone!"
Robert Creamer, teacher, Woodbine School District, Woodbine, New Jersey
"Fantasy Sports and Mathematics! Finally, a fun and effective method not only for teaching math knowledge but going further and providing a framework for students to comprehend, apply, and analyze the learned competencies. A rare and innovative example of academics using sports to teach students life skills."
Kim Beason, associate professor, Park and Recreation Management, University of Mississippi

A Wonderful, Effective Addition to My Math Curriculum.......2007-04-07
As a middle school educator, I'm always searching for ideas to better engage my students in the learning process. An aide at my school told me about a news piece she saw on EPSN showing how teachers were using fantasy sports to help students learn math concepts. Once I saw the piece, I was really intrigued. I ordered the entire set of Dan Flockhart's books immediately. In the past, I have made impulse buys on something that seems really interesting, and I have eventually regretted it. This was not the case with these books. From the first time I opened them and began reading, I was immediately impressed. These books are written in a way that I think anyone could implement this in their classroom, regardless of background knowledge of sports in general, or fantasy sports in particular. Also, if you're worried that this program is just superficial material, it addresses many NCTM (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) standards, all of which are similar to the Ohio state math standards that I am required to teach.
On top of that, the support from the author through his website has been outstanding. Any questions I have asked, whether in the forums on the site, or through personal messages and email, have been answered in a thorough and timely manner. He has even personally put me in touch with another teacher who implemented his program in a class with a similar demographic makeup to mine (All girls! And, yes, they are LOVING it!). The exchanges with that teacher have been invaluable. Dan Flockhart is really supporting his product in a very personal way.
I have begun my first fantasy baseball season, and, already, the results have been wonderful! My students are engaged in a way I haven't seen all year. I give this book my strongest endorsement.

Customer Reviews:
Heres what I thought.......2001-09-22
I bought this book to try and help me narrow down those colleges that offer special programs for students with learning disabilities and the book was not that helpful. It does not segment out colleges with specific programs vs colleges with services, big diference.
Good, but disappointing.......2000-04-14
This book is very useful because of the detailed information on hundreds of college programs for the learning disabled. The number of colleges covered has increased from the earlier editions. The disappointment comes from the selection of colleges. Some schools with programs are not mentioned; while some that are detailed, seemingly offer little more than what is required by law. For instance, Cornell is included, but not Ithaca; Brown is in, but not Salve Regina.

It's no news that being a single parent is not an easy row to hoe, especially not to the 13 million individuals in the United States who currently find themselves in that role. What is news is that there is now a book that offers real assistance on a variety of pertinent issues. There are chapters on communication and house rules, family dinners and quality time, job burnout and business trips, realistic budgets and how to have a social life while still providing responsible, loving parenting. With scads of quotes from single parents on their frustrations, solutions, and general experiences, it's a support group in text form. It's full of advice, which means there's lots that will be helpful and pertain to your specific predicaments, and plenty you'll pass right over as not applicable to you. And it's a resource book, addressing the concerns expressed by the over 500 single parents Noel surveyed, with hundreds of topics and tips, as well as references for further support. --Stephanie Gold

not as good as I expected. Your life will go on if you dont buy it. its ok and esy to read but not an asset to any single parent.
Help for any parent--single or not (hint-- Military Moms).......2005-10-23
Ok, maybe you are a single mother or father for whatever reason; divorce, out-of-marriage children, widowhood or a temporary situation such as a spouse serving in the military. Here is a book that would make a WELCOME gift to anyone in this situation. Funny thing is, though, the advice in this volume would also apply to anybody raising a family.
There are lists of resources, certainly, for help if you are widowed or divorced, but there are also handy lists on how to run a household (for example, budgeting and de-cluttering. Lists of resources for health.)
There is a section on signs of trouble; is a child exhibiting signs of fear? They probably won't tell you "Mom, Dad, I'm afraid of the big bully in the schoolyard who steals my lunch money and has threatened to kill Fluffy Kitten if I tell!" In children, signs of fear are shown in actions or changes in behavior. Here's a chapter on what those signs are.
Any parent would benefit from this book, but I suggest you think about buying a few copies and passing them on to parents who have a spouse overseas. It would make a wonderful Thanksgiving present. Recommended for all new parents.
Brook Noel has helped me !.......2003-10-29
This book has helped me with so many good resources to use. Brook knowing first hand how hard it is to live in a single parent home has given us help to make it with what we have. Thanks Brook, you will never know how much my life has been changed thru reading your book.
The Single Parent Resource.......2000-05-27
The Single Parent Resource is one of the most practical and comprehensive guides available today. With an easy to navigate table of contents, the book lends itself as a ready reference guide. As a single parent, I was impressed with the amount of information packed into it. It covers many of the issues that I have encountered and provides solutions that work. Single parenting is not easy but Brook Noel's book gives me more tools to deal with real life, day to day challenges. Thank you for giving me this help.
Helpful, supportive and practical resource guide.......1998-03-18
The author, Brooke Noel, was raised in a single parent home so she understands from firsthand experience the type of trials and support needed by single parents.
The book covers the top concerns problems and challenges facing the single parent based upon a survey of 500 single parents:
Household management (cooking, cleaning, chores, etc.), balancing work and family, finances, childcare, emotional health for children and parents, and much more.
Although I'm not personally a single parent, I found the guide helpful for any busy parent. Many of the categories and tips are applicable to anyone.
I just wish Amazon.com didn't offer this book by special order only---it's definitely the type of resource single parents need to get into their hands right away.
