Book Description
An inspiration for mom's everywhere! "These stories made my heart smile." -Catherine Oxenberg, actress It will change your life forever. Although you undoubtedly heard those six words many times after announcing that you were expecting, you couldn't have imagined what they really meant. And then the moment came. You held your baby in your arms and felt an outpouring of emotion like you had never known before. And just like they said, nothing was ever the same. Motherhood is a lifelong journey that's as unique as every woman who embarks on it. No other role defines us as deeply and fills us with as much compassion, or tests our strength and patience more extremely! No other relationship fills our hearts with as much love, wonder and awe for another human being. Although motherhood is a timeless calling, today's moms have unique challenges and rewards. In this book you'll learn from other mothers and seasoned grandmothers who share the universal worries, the tears and the laughs that come with the job, as well as the wisdom to help you be the very best mom you can be. These stories are for every mom, whether you're an expectant or an adoptive mom, a stay-at-home or working mom, or a grandmother watching your grandchildren grow. Share this book with any mom to remind her of the profound role she will forever play in her child's life.

Book Description
The only book from a physician-mom with warm, practical, and medically sound advice that will help moms reclaim their passion for sex
There's one thing that almost every mother knows but won't discuss: Sex drive diminishes after a baby is born, and it's a struggle to reclaim passion in the years that follow.
In Great Sex for Moms Dr. Raskin brings the problem out into the open -- at last. From her fifteen years as a psychiatrist she knows that mothers silently rationalize that sex will return "after the baby sleeps through the night," then "when the children start having sleepovers," and then "once the kids go to college." And she believes that eighteen years is an awfully long time to wait.
Dr. Raskin reveals the reasons that women's bodies and minds betray them, resulting in a sleepy libido. The great news is that it's easier than you might think to wake it up. Insisting that a healthy parental sex life is in the children's best interests, Dr. Raskin shows you how to:
- Overcome the feeling that you're the only one in America with a boring sex life
- Leave your mother persona at the bedroom door to rescue your sexual self
- Banish the inner censor and talk about sex with your partner
- Stop frenzied, on-demand mothering so you can nourish your libido
Great Sex for Moms is perhaps the most important book a mother can read for nurturing her marriage, her children, and above all, her own sexuality.

Simply Outstanding & Astounding!!.......2007-09-24
Husbands and Dads: Buy this book! Read it first to gain some deep understanding of your wife's emotional and mental state after child-birth. Take every word to heart and this resource will break your thinking.
Just go ahead and buy it.......2003-11-15
I was horrified to be buying this book, but thrilled I could on Amazon and not be seen in public. After reading just a few chapters, my attitude toward sex changed. It became clear that with a little effort from me, my husband was more than willing to listen and thrilled to see me change. He was eager to please me and make just that little bit of change in himself as well. (we all know what they will do for a little sex) Her writing is clear, funny at times, and right on target about what to do. This book is a must at a baby shower. It has helped to make my marriage better, which ultimately makes for a happier family.
she really tried, but my sex life is no better.......2003-02-16
wow, this author is awesome. i think she is so caring and cool and helpful. however, as a new mom in my 20s, i think this book is not for my generation. a lot of it was written with people born in the 40s, 50s and 60s in mind. people in my generation (born 70s, 80s) who are having kids and have low libido already know a lot about sex, erotica and communication. however there were some good tips in the book. she's a cool lady
sexy and practical.......2002-04-29
I bought this book because I'm a fan of Dr. Raskin's other books, and I love this one too. You really feel like she knows you personally. My favorite chapter is how to talk to your husband about sex, but I also like her suggestions on how to get your libido charged. You don't feel ridiculous because she completely gets what the issues are for mothers. Thank you, thank you!
There is hope for Moms... and Dads!.......2002-04-23
At first glance the title catches one's eye - Great Sex for Moms.
There is a quick glance around to make sure no one is looking as one
picks up the book in the bookstore. That single act of picking up the
book to read the jacket (or ordering it from Amazon.com)is a primary
step in doing what this book advocates. Dr. Raskin constructs her
book around intentionality. Instead of simply accepting the status
quo, the reader is challenged to take steps which will bring a great
sex life - in spite of kids! In these pages it becomes apparent that
the physician part of Raskin has merged with the romantic and mother
sides of her being. She speaks as one with incredible integrity. Her
writing is informed by her mind, heart, and experience. What can beat
that?
Humor is coupled with very specific and helpful suggestions
about re-kindling a healthy, fulfilling sex life. While the subject
matter is serious, there is a playfulness that creates a comfort level
for the reader. At one point Raskin writes, "...I hope my mother and
children never read this chapter..." - Raskin knows her readers well.
Great Sex for Moms is a book for Dads too! If read as a couple,
the conversations which ensue will guarantee a better sex life!

A friend had given me this book with my first son. My husband and I were both brought to tears reading it. I truly reminds us each time we read it to treasure every moment with our son. What a precious gift life is. I buy one for each boy (or there is a daughter version) born to friends and family.
I recommend this wonderful read.

Great Book!.......2007-09-27
I am so glad that I purchased this book for myself. It has changed my way of seeing motherhood for the better. Elizabeth teaches on the important job that we have as mothers in areas that we never thought before. No matter what stage you are in as a mom; this book will be encourage you, teach you, and inspire you in your journey!
Excellent Biblical Wisdom.......2006-03-16
As with all of Elizabeth George's books, A Mom After God's Own Heart is a solid, practical, and very BIBLICAL look at what it means to be a woman who seeks the Lord. This book is filled with excellent application for a mother's day to day life, yet succeeds in dealing with "heart issues" rather than just being a "to-do list." I was encouraged and inspired by this read.

Book Description
A Santa Fe dad shares heartwarming, comic, often ludicrous tales of raising a family in this laugh-out-loud book perfect for anyone who enjoys the edgy humor of David Sedaris or the whimsical commentary of Dave Barry. Waxing both profound and profane on issues close to a father’s heart—from exploding diapers to toddler tantrums, from the horrors of dressing up as Frosty the Snowman to the moments that make a father proud—Robert Wilder brilliantly captures the joys and absurdities of being a parent today.
With an artist wife and two kids—a daughter, Poppy, and a son, London—Robert Wilder considers himself as open-minded as the next man. Yet even he finds himself parentally challenged when his toddler son, London, careens around the house in the buff or asks the kind of outrageous, embarrassing questions only a kid can ask. A high school teacher who sometimes refers to himself jokingly as Mister Mom (when his wife, Lala, is busy in her studio), Wilder shares warmly funny stories on everything from sleep deprivation to why school-sponsored charities can turn otherwise sane adults into blithering and begging idiots.
Whether trying to conjure up the perfect baby name (“Poppy” came to his wife’s mother in a dream) or hiring a Baby Whisperer to get some much-needed sleep, Wilder offers priceless life lessons on discipline, potty training, even phallic fiddling (courtesy of young London). He describes the perils of learning to live monodextrously (doing everything with one hand while carrying your child around with the other) and the joys of watching his daughter morph into a graceful, wise, unique little person right before his eyes.
By turns tender, irreverent, and hysterically funny,
Daddy Needs a Drink is a hilarious and poignant tribute to his family by a man who truly loves being a father.
Customer Reviews:
Funny, but crass.......2007-08-27
Gave this to my dad for fathers day, and he told me it was a bit embarrasing. Some sexual stories, etc. He may be sensative, I haven't read it. Just be aware if you are giving it to a prude! (:
Hilarious even without kids.......2007-06-15
This book was hilarious..I don't even have children and I was riveted by his imagery and language. You will be pleased to sit down and enjoy a few laughs when you dive in. Great book, fun find, can't wait for his next one.
Funniest Parenting Book Yet!.......2006-12-13
If you are a parent or wanting to be a parent, you should definitely read this book by Robert Wilder. It is a collection of his memories as a father, from the first time he changed his daughter in an Olive Garden Restaurant men's room, to having worn a snowman suit called Frosty and baking in his own fart and stench just to get the love of his daughter. Wilder also narrates the frustrations of being a parent and drastically looking at it in a very side splitting and hilarious way. If you want a book that will make you "pee-in-your-pants-laugh-out-loud-kind" of way and if you want to see the different lengths parents will do to get their children's love, this is the book to read. You will also find in this book how a family friend reacts when his 3 year old son drops the "F-BOMB word", or when a 6 year old girl asks Wilder, "Daddy, what is rape?", and a kid's question on why the sky is blue followed by who, what where and when interrogations. Although this book is about parenting and children, Wilder's language is on the rated R range, which I think is a very effective tool for the adult readers to find amusing, not to mention one chapter that has rated R dialouges with.
Reallly funny!.......2006-11-23
As new parents, my husband and I couldn't stop laughing while reading the stories. We even read sections aloud to other new parent friends.
Fathers are parents too.......2006-11-10
A delightful book which all new parents will appreciate. It
was written by a dad with a sense of humor.

Book Description
A single mother's friendly, no-nonsense guide to balancing dating and parenting.
Embarking on the dating scene can be a fun though sometimes daunting prospect for any single woman. But for the more than 10 million single women in the U.S. with children at home, dating is a much more complicated matter. Whether uncoupled through divorce or death, single moms face a wide range of questions:
When will I be ready to date and how do I start? When-and what-should I tell the kids? What happens if I love the guy and the kids hate him?
In Mom, There's a Man in the Kitchen and He's Wearing Your Robe, Ellie Slott Fisher, a once-widowed, once-divorced single mother of two, speaks with refreshing candor about balancing dating and parenting. Drawing upon her own experience, the stories of many other women, and the advice of family psychologists, Fisher offers encouragement, strategies, and a healthy dose of humor for the single-but-looking mom-from how to meet men in the first place to when to introduce your date to the kids, from when and where to work sex into the equation to how to talk to your dating teenagers without looking like a hypocrite. Practical, funny, and hopeful, this is the one guide single moms need before jumping into the murky waters of the dating pool.

Terrific "Real Life" Advice for Single Moms.......2006-05-11
Single moms are single, not dead. With humor, wisdom, and the insight only those who have "been there" can offer, this book helps single moms "get a life" without sacrificing the emotional needs of their chidren.
Single moms will also want to check out the completely revised third edition of The Complete Single Mother.
Words of wisdom in a cute cover!.......2006-03-20
This book, though a fun quick read, contains gems of wisdom on topics ranging from what to expect from your kids, depending on their ages, and when and whether to introduce your new flame to them, to how to handle your boyfriend sleeping over. Whether you're just recently single again, or have been out of the dating scene for years, this book offers sound advice peppered with humor. It was very helpful and reassuring to me to be reminded that there are millions of single moms out there, and we all go through similar challenges in trying to find someone worth spending time with and exposing your children to! I've already lent this book to a friend!
Excellent, engaging, FUNNY book for single moms - and dads.......2006-01-21
There are few books out there to guide us single dads in the dating scene - while we do what's best for our children too. And men generally do not like to discuss these things with each over beers or poker. Here we have a delightful book we can read in the privacy of our own homes, and even share with male friends who are going through the same experience (and we don't even have to discuss, just hand the book over!). A book that's insightful, honest and well researched - and funny too!
well done, but mostly for mom's and a bit lightweight.......2005-12-20
I read this book from the perspective of a single father who is dating because some
of the reviews suggested men would find it useful. And it was useful. It did gracefully discuss issues such as what to tell the kids, things to avoid, etc.
But it was clearly written for mothers; and, indeed, single mothers who have their
kids almost all the time. I also noted a lack of studies supporting the advice and,
indeed, most child-development advice seems to come from one expert (!?).
Very helpful.......2005-08-23
I found this book to be very helpful. I like that it was written by someone who has been there (twice), rather than a doctor/professional who has theories but no personal experience. I bought this book because I couldn't find any detailed information online regarding single-mom dating past the point of meeting someone and the initial introduction to the kids. This book goes into topics like public displays of affection, sleep-overs, moving in together, getting remarried, etc. I also like that it discusses all different age groups. Now that I've read it, my boyfriend is reading it too. It is written from the woman's perspective, but a man would certainly benefit from the information. As long as he can ignore or get past some occasional ex-husband bashing within the stories.

Best cookie cookbook I've found.......2007-06-29
I love this cookbook. It has an amazing variety and I can always find a cookie recipe for what I'm craving or what I have in the cupboards at the time (there is even a section of cookies for when you want cookies but you don't have the basics). It is very well organized into sections with good tips and tricks within the recipe. The recipes are easy to follow and all the cookies I've tried have turned out great.
Awesome!.......2007-06-13
This is a great cookie baking book - firstly, its very practical, the spiral bound feature makes it easy to follow the recipes whilst preserving the book's appearance [wish all cookbooks were that way]. The recipes are fun, and easy to make with lots of practical tips like melting the butter and allowing to cool to room temperature before creaming it with the sugar. All in all, a cookie baker's delight and practical too!
Good but not as good as her other baking book........2007-04-08
I own the author's "Mom's Big Book of Baking" and use it all the time, so I bought this book from Amazon sight unseen. While I've used it alot, I don't know if I really need both of her books as many of the recipes appear in both books in slightly altered form. That being said, I have used the book several times and my kids like cooking from it because the pictures are so appealing. It's also spiral bound, so it's easy to keep open on the counter when you are cooking with 2 kids at your heels.
A Great Variety.......2007-02-21
Both my roommate and I are avid bakers, and we are always looking for new cookie recipes. I saw this book and after flipping through it decided I needed to have it.
Lauren Chattman includes recipes for classics such as chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal cookies, and slice-and-bake sugar cookies. Also included are some more interesting ideas, such as black forest chocolate chip cookies, cornmeal cranberry squares, after-dinner microwave brownies, and m&m biscotti.
The black & white cookies were a big hit with my friends, and they were surprisingly easy to make. Tonight I'm making sour cream chocolate chip cookies, and I am so excited to taste them!
I really recommend this book to anyone who has any interest in baking--no skill-level necessary!
My new favorite cookie book.......2007-01-21
I got this for Christmas from a knowing mom who said that now that my children are school age I will be making more cookies. This book is well organized, has a good broad spectrum of recipes, and is easy to use. The color photos make your mouth water. So far every thing I've tried from this book has turned out GREAT!

Book Description
When a Woman Is in an Emotional Tug-of-War
for Her Man's Heart
Why can't he commit? Many women find themselves asking this question when in
love with a man who won't get married, won't stop womanizing, or refuses to give up his sex addictions. Often this kind of man is bound by an unhealthy attachment to his mother. This phenomenon is called "mother-son enmeshment."
In When He's Married to Mom, clinical psychologist and renowned intimacy expert Dr. Kenneth M. Adams goes beyond the stereotypes of momma's boys and meddling mothers to explain how mother-son enmeshment affects everyone: the mother, the son, and the woman who loves him. In his twenty-five years of practice, Dr. Adams has successfully treated hundreds of enmeshed men and shares their stories in this informative guide. He provides proven methods to make things better, including:
-- Guidelines to help women create fulfilling relationships with mother-enmeshed men
-- Tools to help mother-enmeshed men have healthy and successful dating experiences
leading to serious relationships and marriage
-- Strategies to help parents avoid enmeshing their children
When He's Married to Mom provides practical and compassionate advice to the women who are involved with mother-enmeshed men, to the mothers who wish to set them free, and to the men themselves.

Getting beyond mother-son enmeshment.......2007-10-01
This is a good book with a somewhat corny, if not downright misleading, title. It's not about stepdads or men whose wives take on a mothering role. It's actually a serious study of adult men struggling to live fulfilling, productive lives after a childhood smothered by an inappropriately self-centered mother. A mother-enmeshed man, or MEM, the term used by intimacy specialist Dr. Kenneth Adams, is unable to form healthy relationships, pursue his true desires and live an independent life. Many MEMs suffer sexual problems and substance addictions. The good news, however, is that, through awareness and therapy, MEMs can learn how to set boundaries, enact positive behaviors and understand their real selves. Adams places his case studies in part one and, although they are engrossing and relatable, an upfront exploration of the mother-enmeshed man syndrome might have been more helpful before the case histories. If you are involved with a mother-enmeshed man or sense that you might be one, we recommend that you study this book, especially the many practical descriptions and suggestions in boxes and lists.
Interesting theories, but badly overreaches.......2007-08-29
Despite the title and a couple of chapters that bring up images of a Mommy Dearest actively destroying a son's (and daughter-in-law's) life, Kenneth Adams' When He's Married to Mom is really more of a continuation of his argument that parental influence matters an awful lot in adult behavior. While several of his case studies make fascinating and disturbing reading, he takes a large leap of faith in presuming his chosen therapy focus is the grand unified solution to a whole bunch of personality disorder problems and doesn't do a particularly good job in proving causality. Normally that'd be worth taking it down to 3 stars, but I'll round it up to 4 stars given he at least cites other literature in the field and the core argument about parental relationships remains worth a read.
Adams is far from the first therapist to point out the importance of the bonds between mothers and sons - think Freud to start, and a lot of people contributing along the way. Adams' specific focus is on "Mother-Enmeshed Men", MEM for short, to which he draws several little square and circle diagrams illustrating the fouled up relationships that caused and result from both. It's fairly interesting stuff, even though at times the book feels like it should have the theme music from the old Police song "Mother" playing along - "every girl I go out with becomes my mother in the end!" Some of the personalities defined in the case studies went through some very nasty upbringings, and its worth a read if for nothing else just for showing how not to behave as a parent. (Probably the best anecdote he relates about this is how after a large presentation on MEMs to fellow therapists, one got up to the microphone, admitted she had done some really dumb things as a mom, and was going to therapy herself.)
Adams, though, badly overreaches in ascribing a MEM relationship as the sole cause of many disorders. A 20 question self-survey to find out if the man you love is a MEM has questions that could (and probably should) fall into any number of disorders straight out of DSM-IV, and while his use of citations of other work does provide validation for some theories (a man who stays stuck in a dead end job probably has low self esteem) claiming it as a grand unified theory is a bit much. His solution may work for some people - although the ideal time for a patient in therapy (his only solution) is five years with a rare lucky one finishing up in two, so if MEMs do exist and you're dating one, you may not really like the effort he demands - and it's an interesting step in his field, but there's an awful, awful lot here that feels like it's a stretch.
Still, it's a very interesting read for the do-not-do list on parenting even if those who've split up with an ex who had major mommy issues may not get as much out of it as they'd hoped for from the title; there are probably better books for them elsewhere, and besides, the whole point of postmortem relationship examination is to figure yourself out, not the ex. 4 stars.
I feel sympathy for these men!.......2007-08-20
An excellent read. Some books just have exactly the thing you are looking for! This is the only book you will need if you are trying to understand your man who seems to place more importance to Mom and her emotions than yours and his!
I sympathesize with these men because they never had a chance at individuation! That's why they are the way they are!
I hope these men would have the courage to analyze the info given in this book and seek help before it's too late.
It's challenging for the women with these men to bring up the subject at all! I would like to hear and learn from other women if and how they were sucessful in helping their men throuh their issues.
Best Book on Momma's boys.......2007-07-14
I read the book in the library as well. What an eye opener. I just ended a relationship with a man a few months ago who was a surrogate husband to his mom. The book also mentions that a lot of these momma's boys still keep exes around. My ex did. He had a harem of exes around him and it bothered me. That wasn't the reason I broke up with him, but part of it.
The books gives some good tips on dealing with momma's boy. However I'm not willing to wait another 5 years while he's in therapy to help him on his healing journal. I'm not into rehab projects. I'll hold out for a more mentally healthy normal male.
If any woman is involved with a momma's boy, this book will validate all the feelings she's felt by being 2nd or even last in the relationship.
Excellent - A real-eye-opener!!.......2007-07-04
I had read our library's copy of this book. It was informative and had easy-to-read case studies of men who are enmeshed with their mothers. More importantly, it contains suggestions on how to help the guys out of this dilemna or helps the gals see when it's time to end the relationship.
I just ordered two copies for gifts. Ladies, if you've run into too many 'momma's boys' or 'commitment-phobes," this could be the book for you.
