A mother tiger wants her baby to go to sleep, but the little tiger resists. "'If I close my eyes,' he said, 'I can't see the sky.'" She assures him that he will not only see the sky when he sleeps, but will float among clouds and be cradled by the moon. Not in the least assured, the little tiger complains that if he closes his eyes, he will miss seeing the tree and the bird with blue feathers. With each concern, his mother consoles him with a comforting thought. If this gentle give-and-take were not calming enough for a bedtime story, Hallensleben's lovely dreamscapes (And If the Moon Could Talk) will surely do the trick. Double-page paintings of cloud animal shapes (with the little tiger cozying up with the moon), the "big mountains where the rain lives," and of mother tiger licking her baby are utterly hypnotic. Young children who are afraid to go to sleep will learn that "Dark is just the other side of light. It's what comes before dreams" and that mom is never very far away. (Ages 3 to 6) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
A little tiger takes an imaginative journey
The little tiger lay on his back in the tall grass.
"Close your eyes, little tiger," said his mother, "and go to sleep."
But the little tiger is worried about what sleep might bring.
His mother reassures him that once he closes his eyes, he will dream of magical places. And when he awakens, she will be right there, waiting for him.
Alternating between real-life scenes with the baby tiger and his mother and enchanted dream scenes of sleep's possibilities, Kate Banks's simple, comforting text and Georg Hallensleben's bright, colorful illustrations make this a charming bedtime story for small children.

Great Illustration.......2007-08-22
I first discovered this book at the library. I liked it so much that I've checked it out multiple times and have now purchased it.
Kate Banks' writing is a parent telling a story to a child. The words are soothing, but become more poetic with each reading.
Georg Hallenleben's art fills the page and takes you into the imagination of the writer.
I am a new mom and have received lots of books as gifts. I buy books used or on clearance as I see them. This is the first book I have purchased for my son at full price - I love it and would recommend as my top choice to anyone. I like it for naps.
Wonderful bedtime story...........2007-07-04
This book is one of my daughter's favorite bedtimes stories and mine. The little tiger is adorable and I love how all the illustrations complement the storyline. I absolutely LOVE this book and recommend it highly.
Purrfect for putting your little one(s) to sleep!.......2007-03-09
The beautiful illustrations and words of comfort help our two children, ages 2 and 4, at bedtime. The baby tiger expresses his fears of bedtime while mommy tiger provides words to calm and soothe.
Simply Wonderful.......2006-05-31
The writer and illustrator of "The Cat Who Walked Across France" team up again in another simple yet totally winning story. This time, our protagonist is a baby tiger--so innocent looking that he resembles a cuddly soft toy--who just can't go to sleep. With the enormous curiosity of any infant, this little tiger doesn't want to close his eyes and miss the sky, the trees, abright blue bird--all the wonderful, wondrous things around him.
In time-honored style, his wise mother counters all his objections with a parallel in his "mind's eye." In fact, she suggests that closing your eyes can bring you an even more varied and rewarding experience:
"The little tiger rolled onto his belly and listened to the leaves quiver overhead. 'If I close my eyes, I can't see the tree.' he said. 'But you can, said his mother. 'You can see many trees, where you can play hide-and-seek until the night finds you and brings you home."
This book was just made for quietly reading to your child as he or she gets into bed! ALong with the quieting possibilities offered in the book's beginning, Kate Banks also soothes the "what ifs." WHen the tiger imagines he's a bird, he suddenly acquires a fear of falling. The mother, who may have read some kids' books herself, answers "I will be there to catch you." IF he gets lost, "then I will find you." Banks knows no fear herself, she even tackles the dark: "'Don't be scared,' said his mother. 'Dark is just the other side of light. It's what comes before dreams.'" (Awwwww...) The sleepy tigers imagines what he might dream of, and illustrator Hallensleben shows us a panoramic view of snow-capped mountains shaded blue and purple, sand dunes with purple-topped palms, and a giant orange fish jumping out of a deep blue sea, a seagull, an orange-billed penguin-ish bird, and the tiger dancing merrily on its back.
Hallensleben draws his typically rich oil colors here, and brush strokes and saturated, unusual color schemes (there's a bit of the Fauve here) are almost too visually exciting for a bedtime book. Still, a darkened room will dampen the colors, and Banks' ever-present, always reassuring mother tiger will undoubtedly work as well with your young audience as it did with her tiger cub.
A wonderful book!.......2005-07-18
This is a beautiful book about going to bed and having wonderful dreams! The story is simple for toddlers to understand and the illustrations are impressive. It really shows young kids' imaginations and that "mama tiger" is always there for her baby.

The foremost medical authority on children's health, the American Academy of Pediatrics, has collected in these pages the best advice on getting newborns, toddlers, and school-age children to sleep. Packed with practical tips, this guide offers invaluable information, answers questions from parents, and provides reassuring ad-vice for preventing SIDS, getting your baby to sleep through the night, and solving sleep-wake problems. Above all, the Academy weighs in on the controversies over the most popular child-sleep advice--by evaluating the pros and cons of these conflicting theories--enabling parents to make the best decisions for their families.
Here, in a compact and accessible package, is information to ensure that even the most bleary-eyed parents and their children get a good night's sleep.
Customer Reviews:
Over-simplifies.......2006-11-28
I think the medical communty over-reaches itself when it tries to address dynamics of human behavior and human relationships, both of which encompass the activity of parenting. This book assumes that the sleep habits which are most convenient for parents are also best for children. It also implies that difficult sleep patterns in children are something that parents should be able to control from very young, and that it is only a matter of hard work and competence. Neither of these assumptions are true, but either could leave a new parent feeling idiotic and overwhelmed. Not helpful.
Also, the book states that there is a higher rate of SIDS among infants who cosleep. This is completely unsupported. In fact, research demonstrates that when infants sleep "in proximity" to their mother's, they are at a *decreased* risk of SIDs. Nor has any study demonstrated any significant risk of suffocation to an infant who cosleeps with a breastfeeding mother, who is not influenced by drugs or alchohol, who is not a smoker, and who makes sensible modifications to her bedding.
Finally, the book makes very little reference to the psychological and attachment needs of young children, failing to detail the *emotional needs* of children and infants as they detail the "pros and cons" of various approaches to nighttime parenting.
The nighttime needs of children and infants are complex, unique, and multidimensional. This book is not.
Well rested new mom.......2004-06-12
Although this book got poor reviews based on its poor organization, the tips in it have worked wonderfully for my baby. I followed its recommendations for a 6 - 8 week old baby and after a few days, my daughter responded very well. She began sleeping all night (11 hours) when she was 10 weeks old and I believe it is because when she awakes during the night (as all babies do), she is able to soothe herself back to sleep. Follow this method for all naps and nighttime and you should see success! The crying is minimal compared to other methods, and my little girl never cried more than six minutes without my comforting her. Give it a try.
Just an outline of the options..........2003-01-08
Because this book was edited by the AAP, I expected a detailed and methodical perscription for getting my baby to sleep. Instead, the book is really an expanded pamphlet that describes the different sleep options out there with a clear bias against co-sleeping. Frankly, I wasn't interested in co-sleeping with my baby either, but I found their "con" (from the "pro/con" section) to be laughable--that co-sleeping is dangerous because you could smother the baby accidentally. Lots of other books out there. Don't buy this one.
Pretty Basic.......2001-01-31
I bought this book on the advice of my pediatrician to help my newborn sleep through the night. While it was no miracle-worker, it did give me some basics such as a nightime routine to follow, and what I could actually expect my child to do at his age. I recommend it to someone who has no good "sleep" resource, but for seasoned moms, it is probably not any help.
Somewhat helpful, but mostly biased and rigid!.......2000-09-16
I as well did not find this book very helpful.I am not a mother, but my sister and her family live with us.My sister practices and has practiced co-sleeping with all 5 of her children and they are not whiny, sniveling brats as this book and others against co-sleeping suggest! They are happy, well adjusted children who are confident and secure.
And also, to think that the AAP would scare poor first time parents into believing that they could accidentally suffocate their own children is appaling to me! There has never been any scientific proof thus far that this happens, unless the parent is drunk or otherwise impared. My sister has 5 living breathing human beings to attest that this rarely happens.I wish sleep books would give parents this option without presenting it in such a negative fashion. The parents have the right to do what they feel is best for their children without being made to feel guilty for doing it!

Your Father Forever.......2007-06-11
This book was so great!! I got it for my husband for Father's Day. I loved it so much that I ended up giving it to him early! I couldn't wait for him to share it with our kids. Travis Griffith really knows the feeling that us parents have for our children. I was glad that this was a book for FATHERS! It is my kids' favorite book now and they want daddy to read it every night. It is so precious to watch them curled up together. If only he COULD be daddy forever!
daddy time, I'm all for it!.......2007-03-24
This is the story of how a father feels about his children. It tells of how as the child grows the love will just grow deeper and deeper. The last line in the book reads : I will be your daddy as long as you want me to. But I will be your father ... forever! So sweet!
There seem to be lots of books that focus mothers and their children. I was glad to see one focus on the father/child relationship!
This is a great bedtime read aloud for fathers to share with their kids.
Tender expression.......2006-09-06
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor for Reader Views (8/06)
"Your Father Forever" is a beautiful poem about a father's love for his children. Travis Griffith is a very talented writer as he tenderly expresses his devotion. Raquel Abreu has beautifully illustrated the meaning behind each line.
From the day a child is born a special bond is formed with his/her father. This helpless, dependent, tiny bundle stirs emotions that are hard to describe. As the infant grows so does the father's love. Together they adventure into the world the father leading and the child following. With father's help the child learns to walk, ride a bicycle, and play on a slide. "We'll celebrate each new discovery as your brilliant life unfolds." "Together we will search for the answers to all of your questions, And I will encourage you to follow the wisdom of your heart." "I will be your daddy as long as you want me to. But I will be your father...forever."
This is a delightful book with a beautiful message. I highly recommend this book for young children. I intend to pass this on to my son so that he can have the pleasure of taking his children on his lap and sharing this loving message with them.
Extremely well done........2006-03-06
It's about time there was a book, as lovingly written as this one is, about fathers sharing special times with their children. Reading a story about loving mothers and grandparents guiding, laughing, and participating in their children's lives is commonplace, but now (within the pages of this book), our children can also realize that a daddy or father can have the same warm feelings.
As the story moves along, the reader will completely understand the many ways in which a daddy enjoys and helps his children when they are small as well as when they grow and meet life's difficult challenges. As the illustrations suggest, a daddy can tuck you in at bedtime, read stories, kiss away tears, play outside on warm spring days, and so much more. That's what a daddy does!
***** Nearing the end of the story, we soon come to realize that children will inevitably grow up and away and that life will lead them to many places. When that happens - and a playful loving daddy is not a necessity - it is important to understand and remember that a loving father will always be there - waiting to help them and guide them at any time and at any age. Thus the statement - "I will be your father...forever." *****

Deepening Connections Between Fathers and Their Children.......2005-10-29
"We will have great fun and share lots of laughter. And I'll be there with a hug when you need to cry. Your friends will be welcome in our lives and in our home, where every person is valued and all feelings can be shared." - From the book
Geared towards youngsters ages 3-8, Your Father Forever is a delightful book written by Travis Griffith and illustrated by Raquel Abreu. One morning, the author was awakened early by the persistent cries of his child, musing, "Well, I guess I'll keep getting up like this for as long as you need me to." This seemingly random thought led to the birth of this wonderful book.
In a social climate where father's were often pressured as children to "be a man" (meaning act tough and don't show tenderness) or even ridiculed for displays of kindness, it's refreshing to see a book about a gentle, receptive father. My own husband displays the wonderful traits portrayed in this book, but sadly, many children don't have the benefit of a nurturing, involved, and tender father.
Your Father Forever shows that men can, indeed, be nurturing parents who care just as much about their children's emotional health as a mother could. Travis Griffith hopes to inspire children and fathers around the world to deepen their connections and commitments to one another and this book is an important bridge for doing so.
Gorgeously illustrated, this book brought me to tears as I read it. My son had the benefit of having his father be the first to read it to him. If you're looking for a wonderful gift for a new father, this would be a wonderful investment in the future of our children-especially if the spirit of the book can be "caught" and applied.
Book Description
To mark the golden anniversary of his ministry, one of America's most revered ministers has written a profound book offering the universal principles that have guided his life -- and can inspire yours!
Fifty years ago Robert H. Schuller founded a church on the idea that with faith, focus, and follow-through all of our dreams can become realities. A tireless advocate of this positive message, he built the Crystal Cathedral into one of America's most popular and beloved centers of worship. Dedicating his life to both his family and his ministry, Dr. Schuller has gone on to teach millions the power of belief. A gifted and moving storyteller, he now offers the wisdom he's gained over a lifetime of optimism and devotion. In this personal and inspirational book, Schuller shows us how the universal principles that have formed his life and work can guide ours as well. Starting with the message of "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow!" this landmark book discusses powerful and universal ideals such as starting with optimism, choosing positive values, keeping focused, clearing the channels of communication, and -- most important -- looking to the Ultimate Authority.
Inspired by his love of humanity and God, Robert H. Schuller's
Don't Throw Away Tomorrow is a culmination of his wisdom, delivered directly to the reader -- a tribute to the power of possibility thinking.

A Gifted Motivator Continues to Inspire.......2006-05-02
Dr. Schuller has been an inspiration to me for years and while this book repeats some of his earlier works, I still find it inspiring and I'm glad he continues to provide excellent mental nutrition for us to feed on. I love hearing about how God provided when he moved to California with $500 and a dream. Of particular interest in this book is the discussion of the scientific study of intuition. He tells us..."scientists are now beginning to recognize the existence and importance to our overall health of 'spirit.'" He uses the term "theosomatic" to describe that we're body, mind, and spirit. This contrasts with the "somatic" approach that looks at body and "psychosomatic" that views body and mind.
Dr. Schuller has a chapter on contractions. He explains how we're faced with realities that seem to be in conflict with each other. He concludes that section that talking about the ultimate contraction, i.e., life and death. "I put my trust in one person, Jesus Christ, who combines this ultimate contradiction through His resurrection. Jesus is in the land of the living--heaven. Every one of us can think of somebody very precious to us who has left the land of the dying and is now in the land of the living. You and I haven't taken that journey yet."
Jesus Himself said "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
Passing Wisdom.......2005-09-09
Robert Schuller has ever been my inspirational role model and all his books are greater wisdom. Another author Paul Coelho comes to my mind apart from Harold Kushner,Deepak Chopra, Robin Sharma, Osho, etc whose book collection I cherish the most. However, Robert Schuller's books are great guiding light and stand a class apart in spiritual training. Robert schuller speaks the wisdom of living - Motivating, Inspiring and changing Attitudes for a better Positive living lifestyle. This book of RS reflects the most positive flow of thinking 'Be what you are, what god what you to be'. Rob shares his wisdom and power of positive thinking to be optimistic. With great personal stories and anecdotes, likewise his other books, this one has a fine line down the read that speaks of wise advice 'Don't throw away tomorrow - Live the dreams'. Among his best reads I like are:
Tough Times Never Last, Tough People Do!
Life is Fair but God is good
Tough Minded Faith for Tender Hearts
The (Be) Happy Attitudes
Success is never Ending, Failure is never final
It's going to be me, It's upto me.
Though my best choice pick is Tough minded Faith for tender hearts, this one is an exceptional book as it really has the insight to think ahead to future and turn dreams to reality. I've read all his books and they are best in my library. I also make it a point to gift to the people I like and feel I wish to share Rob's wisdom. These books aren't too costly too.All his 'Better Yourself' serious is marvellous collections.
NOT Schuller's best.......2005-05-02
This is not Schuler's best book. I am fan of his weekly show, "The Hour of Power" and while his previous books have been outstanding, it's because most of them have dispensed practical advice and positive attitudes to his readers. As you can see if you watch his show, though, he seems to be getting a little more "loony" with age, for lack of a better term, and "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow" continues on that path. This is less his typical style of writing and more a pat on the back for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of his ministry, which don't get me wrong is well-deserved, and also an extension of his autobiography of a few years back, "My Journey". A little too much "rah-rah-sis-koombah" for my liking in this book. But it's Schuller, so if you like him, I recommend it still. Just don't expect anything new.
Robert Schuller's Best Book Yet.......2005-02-13
"Don't Throw Away Tomorrow" is Reverand Robert Schuller's best book ever. In this very well written book, Schuller distills his fifty years of building, bridging, and ministering down to the truths of daily living.
Imagine having an opportunity to sit with a very wise person for a day or two...One who is willing to openly share his personal knowledge about the stuff of life - who and what is most important, how to face and overcome the struggles, how to achieve authentic happiness, and when the race is nearly done, how you can look back with satisfaction that you became what God wanted you to be.
Robert H. Schuller is no ordinary elder statesman. While labeled a televangelist, Dr. Schuller is not just a televangelist. He has a broad mix of experiences that set him apart from his peers and others with his years. While a preacher and a very good one, he went against the grain of his own denomination by focusing not on sin but on HOPE. His entire ministry has been dedicated to helping all of us to "become what God wants us to be," the essence of his "Possibility Thinking."
He gained great wisdom while pioneering (an entrepreneurs' entrepreneur)the creation of a mega-Church , the Crystal Cathedral; pioneering an international outreach via TV; and creating innovative ministries to heal and help many of those who are hurting or are in need.
His influence here and abroad is readily apparent when one looks at the creation and expansion of other Churches who have adopted his "Mission" approach in reaching those who are seeking. The work of Rev. Bill Hybels, Willowcreek Church, (near Chicago), and Rev. Rick Warren (A Purpose Driven Life), Saddleback Church, (Orange County), are just two of Dr. Schuller's many students who bear witness to the fruit that has fallen from the Schuller tree.
In "Don't Throw Away Tomorrow," Dr. Schuller, with great personal stories and anecdotes, discusses the power of optimism; the importance of determining one's mission; choosing the values that are most important; living with a "right" conscience; measuring tomorrow's risks and rewards; communicating with honesty and clarity; understanding life's contradictions and one's assumptions: and the overall importance in believing for grand tomorrow.
This is Dr. Schuller's finest book yet! While it is an easy read, it is one that you will want read slowly and savor. It is full of golden nuggets of wisdom gained over his 50 years as a committed minister, entrepreneur, healer, and possibility thinker. Dr. Schuller has been fully committed to helping each of us be all that God has enabled us to be. His underlying life philosophy comes through loud and clear. This is a book many will enjoy. Many will keep this next to their bed stand for years, and many will provide this as a gift in helping others become what God wants them to be!

For writers too.......2006-05-29
This book is written for parents who are looking for story-telling guidance and inspiration, but for anyone who is interested in writing books or short stories for children it is extremely valuable and useful. It far surpasses most "how to" books and articles on writing for the juvenile market.
It is a beautiful and literate book, and not only does it teach gently about writing, it almost inadvertantly offers deep wisdom about being a Good Parent. Perhaps this is even a more important aspect of this book, as it's suggestions for telling a "good" story to one's children are really suggestions on how to see, feel, and understand your children and to then connect adult wisdom and values to them in a way they can accept.
This is a truly wise and valuable book.
You Can Do It! ..........2003-04-29
...That's the message from Chase Collins, the author of Tell Me a Story.
Children NEED to hear stories, and not just from books. They especially need their parents to spend time with them. Storytelling is a wonderful way to do this, and bedtime is one of the best times for stories.
This book will help you create stories specifically for your child. In one chapter, the author provides a model to follow for story-making. Lots of other encouragement and guidance are also provided.
Please keep in mind that the model given in this book is just ONE way...one model. Wide reading of different kinds of stories will also help you in creating your own.
Try it, and have fun!

Book Description
Understand the rich tapestry of your child's inner world! With fewer inhibitions than adults, children eagerly share their dream life and visit their worst nightmares. But they often don't have the vocabulary to express their feelings. Open up the lines of communication and help youngsters tap into a joyous fount of creativity and a source of intellectual and social development. Using a variety of imaginative techniques, such as Dreamercises, children can safely explore and come to terms with their nightmares. Stimulate pleasant dreams by suggesting scenarios to "revisit" that night--perhaps from a story or a cherished, favorite event. Encourage awareness with the "Dream Finder," which gives parents questions that gently and positively guide a child to talk. The extraordinary color drawings will help them visualize and focus on their dreams. With illuminating real-life case histories that show just how much youthful dreams reveal and a dictionary of common images, you'll have a head start in assuring that your child has a happier, more fulfilled life. 144 pages (all in color), 8 x 10.
Customer Reviews:
This was so much about creative parenting as well as dreams!.......2002-01-17
I bought this book as I thought it looked interesting and I'm fascinated by dreams. I'd never seen one on children's dreams so I thought I'd see how it worked with mine. I was pleasantly surprised to find it packed with sensitive real-life stories with lots of caring advice. If you're wondering about your parenting skills - and what parent doesn't? - then you'd be wise to buy this book by Dr. Spurr. You may find it eye-opening!
