Same information that's in all pregnancy books.......2006-07-24
This book is a really small size which surprised me but regardless, I didn't find any new information in this book that's not already in every other pregnancy book.
I loved it!.......2006-01-23
Thsi book was honest, comforting and real. This book is not scary like some other books and it gives you an overview of everything to expect. This is a must read especially for first time pregnant moms!
Great Book - anwsers the questions you really want to know!.......2005-01-06
My wife and I are expecting our first child and thus have about 1,000 and 1 questions. When I read this book I was expecting the same I have gotten out of all the other 50 books we own but this one is differnt! It answers the questions that you always forget to ask when you are sitting nervously at your doctor's office.
The other day we found mouse droppings in our kitchen and I imeeditalty went to the book for the answer. Within 2 minutes I already knew what dangers it posed to my wife and how to clean it up. The book put us at ease and thus a nervous two days of calls to our doctors and local posion control was avoided and a 15 minute clean up insued.
What a phenomaly quick, easy to read, pocket sized book to have at your hands every second of the journey!
Book Description
Mothers really DO know best. That's why moms-to-be and first timers search out and appreciate the wisdom of experienced mothers. MOTHERS KNOW BEST: REAL MOMS SHARE 1001 TIPS ON PREGNANCY, BIRTH AND THE FIRST YEAR reveals 1001 surprising suggestions and helpful hints both practical and psychological that helped over 500 real moms better understand and enjoy their pregnancies, birth experiences, and lives as new moms.
From birthing options to play groups, from morning sickness to sleep deprivation, from doulas to diapers, these seasoned pros tell it like it is, with compassion, understanding and, often, humor. As one mom-contributor writes in MOTHERS KNOW BEST, "Mothering a newborn is not just about sweet puffs of baby powder and happy cooing. It's about poop, snot, and vomit: measuring it, worrying about it, wearing it, and cleaning it up. It's best to expect this so you are not disillusioned when you get your bundle of joy home." Who but a mom who has been there is going to share this kind of information?
MOTHERS KNOWS BEST's content, style, and format are unique. The short tip layout makes it useful and not overwhelming for busy moms and moms-to-be. The book is divided into over 100 subject chapters, beginning with pregnancy advice, followed by the birth section, then baby's first year. And, unlike most pregnancy/baby books, the largest section of MOTHERS KNOW BEST focuses on "mommy care." Everything from judgmental mommies to juggling responsibilities, from traveling with an infant to coping with isolation, moms share tips on all the physical, emotional, psychological, and social struggles that pregnant women and first year moms encounter.
The 1001 tips come from 500 moms from across America and 10 other countries, from CEOs to stay-at-home moms, professors to scientists, authors to rock-and-roll musicians. Also lending their voices are doulas, birth instructors, obstetricians, lactation consultants, and psychologists. Notable contributors include
Dr. Ruth Peters: Today Show Contributor, Psychiatrist, Author Meg Cox: Author of The Book of New Family Traditions Tammy Pelstring: CEO, Obentec, Inc., creators of LapTop Lunches Lisa Druxman, CFM Chief Founding Mother of Stroller Strides Sheryl Gurrentz, author of "The Guilt-Free Guide to Your New Life as a Mom"
The president of the March of Dimes, Dr. Jennifer Howse has written the foreword and a portion of the sale of each book is being donated to the March of Dimes, a hugely respected charity that mothers overwhelmingly support and look to for information on pregnancy. Co-author Connie Correia Fisher's own son was born 12 weeks premature so this book and fundraising have a special place in her heart.
There are many books about pregnancy and parenting, but MOTHERS KNOW BEST captures the unique spirit of sorority that all moms share, the age-old passing of wisdom from matriarchs to new moms. These are the real experts.
Customer Reviews:
Absolutely the PERFECT baby shower gift!.......2006-02-22
What a fanstastic, encyclopedic tome of real-life, mom-tested tips this book is! Every wise mom seeks a breadth of perspectives and ideas for her new (or even experienced) role as a Mama, and this comprehensive book fills that need beautifully. I've already given this book as a gift to numerous "in a family way" friends, and each has come back with grateful rave reviews.
With chapters addressing areas of pivotal importance and challenge in child-raising, "Mothers Know Best" isn't a "fluffy" parenting book destined to sit on the shelf...this one WILL be referenced over and over again.
Wonderful tips!.......2005-09-08
What a wonderful collection of information for new moms. The information is diverse and really addresses what new moms need and want to know. I'm sure that any new mom will find valuable information in this helpful resource. I highly recommend it!

"If Your Child is Bipolar: A Parent-to-Parent Guide to Living With and Loving a Bipolar Child"
An extremely valuable supplementary resource .......2005-05-07
Mothers Know Best is an anthology of 1,001 tips, trips, techniques, and advice tidbits concerning pregnancy, childbirth and the first year of raising a baby, all from mothers, to mothers around the world. Written in the spirit of sisterhood, Mothers Know Best offers wisdom on everything from raging emotions during pregnancy (depression is a serious concern and should not be taken lightly; meanwhile, volatile expectant mothers can help themselves feel better protect family and friends from devastating outbursts by recording rants and tirades in a journal) to the value of prenatal classes (all the reading in the world does not prepare the first-time mother or her loved one for actual childbirth) to dining out with a baby (feed the child beforehand so he/she does not become unduly hungry smelling the restaurant food) and much, much more. An extremely valuable supplementary resource for new and experienced parents alike.
Wow! Great stuff!.......2005-05-03
This book is chock full o' tips and advice. It's like attending a gazillion "Mom groups" without the hassle. Every point of view is expressed and so much practical and valuable info is readily available! The book is such an easy and fun read. It's perfect if you have a busy lifestyle (as most parents do)and also perfect for those of us with short attention spans. There is nothing complicated...just straight-forward info from other people who have "been there." I will include this book in every baby shower gift from here-on-out...Mother's Day too!
A must read for moms.......2005-04-30
As the mother of three I am always interested in books providing me with advice. This book provides the reader with opinions from people all over which for me made it unique from other books that i have read. The author does a Fabulous job grouping together information from pregnancy to post partum to infancy. I highly recommend this book not just for new moms but for those of us who are "seasoned" as well. I can't believe all the new "tricks of the trade" that I walked away with.

Innovative Advice for New Moms.......2000-06-13
This book offers some new twists to the time honored advice that everyone has heard from their mothers, grandmothers and friends to the lady in line at the grocery store. Ms. Murphy offers practical tidbits ranging from making the baby laugh to more serious matters like leaving the baby with a sitter. All advice is offered with a sense of humor. As a mother a few times over, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the advice and found the format to be engaging and easy to read. I would definitely recommend this book, whether to a new mom or a mom for the fifth time!
Excellent!.......2000-04-26
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it. Examines real life situations. Recommend it too all!

Book Description
Baby Tips for Dads - Baby's First Year. New dads are often as mystified by their wives after they become mothers as they are by their babies! This book will help any dad adjust to his new role so he can enjoy the experience and be a hero! It humorously expresses a lot of the things new parents think about each other, but won't admit. Mothers will want their husbands to read this book-and it makes a great gift for new dads.

Prefer the GoodFather.......2004-12-27
My brother received this a baby shower gift and it wasn't too bad overall. It had some funny stuff and is better than most
Related Note: His best gift was definitely "The GoodFather" which is a CD-ROM which teaches new dads baby skills through a parody of the GodFather series. It came in a cool box, had an impressive collection of baby lessons, and was hilarious.
I'd give the Baby Tips book a thumbs up, but my money will go to The GoodFather by Dr.MOZ www.drmoz.com any day. That's my 2 cents.
Funny, light.......2004-07-03
This book was so funny, I had many great laughs while reading it, and I've given some as gifts. With a newborn, humor is greatly appreciated. I don't think it's meant to be a serious parenting guide but it is just a really funny book.
For New Dads or Neanderthals??.......2001-06-28
I bought this book for my husband since he and I are adding to our family. It sounded cute and easy to read and as a new Dad I thought it would be a way to include him in the wait for our child. The only thing good about this book is that it is easy to read and can finished in less than 30 minutes. If I had given it to him to read he would have rightfully felt insulted at the authors attempts to be funny as she lambbasted fathers. As an example, page 92's wisdom is 'Never say: "Hey, you delivered the baby early! Can I go to the football game Sunday?"' At least the book offends equally since it makes it clear mothers should be lied to, humored, and handled. Parents can laugh with each other, instead of at each other. Parenting is funny and heartbreaking, but instead of being at war with my husband I would rather be in the trenches with him.

Todlers Baby Tips for new moms and dads.......2000-09-23
I found this book to be helpful in just about evey page I turned. The book has everyday helpful pointers that revolve around you and your toddler. Toddlers covers the often-erratic years of your life with your todler, who will likely fluctuate between being an adorable, curious, energetic child and rambunctious terror. The book is easy to use and easy to find answers.

Great Little Book.......2005-12-28
Just recently becoming a parent (to twins), I saw the little book and skimmed through it and thought it would be a good read and I was right. Just as the title reads, it is just TIPS, and should not be looked at as a reference manual. It had some really good tips that as a first time parent, I appreciate. There is just so much information out there that it was nice to read a book that has a clear, simple and light-hearted tone and very helpful at the same time. Pick up the book if you have a chance, even at your local library. It's entertaining and lets face it, if you are anywhere near as busy as I am with my children, this size book is all you will really have time to read anyway.
Also, I noticed that they have a new little book for each stage of your child's development, so I will be picking those up as well.
A Gift For Every New Mom.......2000-11-28
I bought this book when my twins were born and loved it. I bought all the subsequent volumes, too. I now give as gifts to new moms. It may not be an "in-depth" book... there is only one sentence per page, but who has time to read a 200-page book with a newborn anyway? This is simple, quick tips that you can put to use immediately.
Baby Tips for New Moms.......2000-10-03
I loved it-- I never would have thought of half the ideas and it's very funny.
Not a practical reference.......1999-09-13
It's a cutesy little book, with some good suggestions for things, but not a reference manual as such. Each page contains a one sentence suggestion. Fun for lap reading, but not what you should purchase if you're looking for some solid detailed ideas on what to do in given situations.
Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!!!.......1999-02-16
This little book of tips is fulll of tips that just plain make sense. I was a nanny for many years before I was a Mommy and I really wish that I had had this book as a resource for those years. It is full of "Duh, why didn't I think of that" type tips. I really love this little book and plan to give it to all my new Mommy friends!
