Book Description

Fancy Nancy is back! And when her family decides to get a dog, she's certain she can be fancier than ever. After all, a papillon—a small, delicate, fluffy dog—is the ultimate accessory. But her family wants a large, plain dog. How unglamorous!

With Fancy Nancy's trademark humor and warmth, Nancy discovers that real fanciness does not depend simply on appearance but more on a genuine joie de vivre, which is a fancy phrase for having lots of fun.

5 out of 5 stars A must for any little girl!.......2007-10-02

I got my daughter her first Fancy Nancy book when she turned 2, and now everything that is girly she calls fancy Nancy, shoes, purses and anything sparkley! Great to read for bedtime too. I can't wait for the next books to come out!

I Can't understand why the first book was printed in the USA and this one is printed in CHINA! Is there lead in this book like many of their toys??
I think Amazon should list this if this is the case

5 out of 5 stars A very "posh" book!.......2007-09-26

I purchased Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy to go along with the original Fancy Nancy book for my 5 year old granddaughter . . . I had them sent directly to her house while I knew I would be visiting so we could open them together and start reading. My granddaughter loved them and I had to read them several times during our first sitting! The story is very cute and age-appropriate, and the illustrations and colors are perfect for little girls her age. I wish these books had been out when my girls were little! I love the word "posh" because I was born in the country where it's most popularly used.

5 out of 5 stars Tried and True remains true for a reason..........2007-06-28

This book came recommended to me by brother who has a beautifully trained hunting lab (who does double duty as great big family dog in a teeny tiny house!). We are a dog family with many combined years of rescues and pure breeds (depending on who landed on our doorstep at the time). This current generation is the best ever thanks to methods in the Wolters books. Already our 13 week puppy is well beyond our resident geriatrics. I just bumped into the breeder we purchased her from and she stated even they are astounded just how wonderfully well-natured and confident our pup is and still retaining great drive. (The breeder, by the way, is not a fan of Wolters...due the popular criticism that floats around).

It is naive to assume all children and all dogs should be treated in the exact same manner, regardless of temperament or behavior. Agenda based criticisms of this book are as shallow as this assumption. The author of this book offers a well guided technique for training, time tested for many years now, AND possible solutions to guide owners through problem behavior. Discipline techniques are there to protect the dogs and their owners...my mother with a lame leg could be greatly injured by her 95lb Poodle if he charges past her on the stairs...as well as my 2 year old daughter. A dog that bolts from the front door may have its life ended in moments by a passing car (ask my neighbor). These measures are also only recommended IF there is a problem situation. Overlooked in criticisms are the many warnings to not over train or over discipline (your children as well) and the constant reminders for consistent and logical discipline. (I found this book a great reminder as a parent as well).

I have discovered that many of Wolters fans are people whose lives depend on their dogs and their dogs lives depend on their training. His book has remained popular for many years for a good reason: it simply and effectively accommodates many people and many breeds and literally leads to a lifetime of happiness.

1 out of 5 stars Outdate Material.......2007-05-12

Like any dog training book, you may come across a helpful tip here and there in this one. However, I found the training methods to be outdated. What this book does do well is to discuss very specific developmental stages, from birth onward, and explain why seven weeks is the best age to bring the puppy home. The last section on physical care was also somewhat helpful. As for the rest of it, I don't think I'll be employing any of the training methods discussed. In the parts of the book that discuss teaching manners, the author calls for "spanking," or giving your dog "a good cuff on the nose." The author says spanking with a newspaper is cruel, as it teaches the dog to fear loud noises, yet he suggests tin cans strung together to throw near the dog if he's stealing food, or barking at night, etc. So, at times, the author was contradicting himself. And I especially think that having a stranger "spank" your dog to teach him not to get into strange cars is probably dangerous, both for the stranger, and for the dog owner, liability wise. I would think a dog would not be too keen on strangers after having been man handled by one.

3 out of 5 stars Not The Most Helpful Book for New Pup.......2007-01-26

I was disappointed in this book for training my new pup. Far preferred the trainer Brian Kilcommons and his book Good Owners, Great Dogs. I need all the nitty-gritty, not a broad brush. I felt the Wolters book was the latter and I didn't get as much out of it. Also, even my husband who has no trouble setting limits, felt that some methods (such as knocking the dog down the stairs if it tried to pass you) were unnecessarily harsh. We want a well-behaved dog, not one with a broken back. We also felt setting the dog up for an improbable dog-napping and having a stranger start hitting the dog for getting in the open door was way out there.

5 out of 5 stars Yes! Yes! IF you love them you WILL discipline them!.......2006-11-14

I L-O-V-E this book! Our new dog, Gus (a redbone hound/ Rhodesian ridgeback mix) is a COMPLETE JOY and has been well trained since he was JUST SEVERAL WEEKS OLD because of Richard Wolters' advice! The neighbors call me "The Dog Whisperer!" As far as the review that said never spank a dog or child? PUL-EASE! Instead of self promoting, the confused (but well meaning) gentleman should read Bringing Up Boys by, Dr.James Dobson. I personally am STILL in the process of raising FOUR sons... one blissfully married, one at the University of Virginia, one at the United States Naval Academy and one a gifted junior in High School. They have ALL at one time or another THANKED us for disciplining them and loving them with parameters! If you want a GREAT dog get THIS book. A GREAT child- PRAY and have the guts to guide them!

5 out of 5 stars Family Dog.......2006-11-06

Great book. Not the first book we have used. Hunting Dog was also wonderful. The only part we did not agree with was the paper training. We just used lots of praise and a firm loud no, accompanied by a run outside. Worked wonders and you dont have to worry about paper laying on the floor becoming wet. Highly recommend this author.

Natural Health Bible for Dogs & Cats : Your A-Z Guide to Over 200 Conditions, Herbs, Vitamins, and Supplements.

OK! I know I have said this before but if you are a pet owner you need this book!! If you are sick of everytime you go to the Vet you come home with at least a $200.00 bill and don't even know what is causing your pet to be ill, you need this book!! Honestly since I have purchased this book I have not been back to the Vets other than to have my at the time 8 month old Yorkie fixed. I'm now because of this book treating my pets with holistic natural remedies. My Sheltie had diarrhea, I treated it with recommendations from this book. My Yorkie would not stop scratching this summer and he did not have fleas. I treated him recommendations from this book. My 18 year old Manx cat started to lose a ton of weight. I went to this book for help. All of a sudden my Sheltie started to chew a spot on his foot. Again I got out the book. Actually I never put it away!! I love and need this book!! You will too!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book if you want to know it all!.......2007-10-08

Packed full of easy to understand information. Not only does it answer all of your questions for animal care but lots of it pertains to humans as well! I highly recommend this book!

5 out of 5 stars A great book for pet owners.......2007-10-05

This is a very useful book for dog owners, especially people who have never had pets before. The doctor offers many suggestions for natural remedies for health problems with your pet.

4 out of 5 stars Medicinal Use.......2007-09-13

I found this book very informative and useful when searching for holistic ingredients and supplements for my dog who has Addison's Disease. There are not many books out there that are user friendly with this disease, but this book made it very simple with highlighted notes and page reference numbers for other suggestions. I really liked the fact that this book had a list and explanation of all ingredients found in typical dog food products. The herbal remedies where a wonderful addition to my research and the book gave me definitions to all the products that were mentioned. Great book overall, and I would recommend it to anyone that is searching for holistic remedies for their pets or just for herbal and product information.

5 out of 5 stars A wealth of information.......2007-06-27

First I would like to say I have never met Dr. Shawn and am writing
this because I am so pleased with his book. With the recent food scare
I was looking for a reliable source for a homemade food recipe. I live
in Dallas which is near where Dr. Shawn practices. He has written
articles for The Dallas Morning News and I've heard people speak
favorably of him on more than one occasion. I'm new to holistic care
and was a bit skeptical thinking I would be admonished for using
conventional medical care and products. This has not the case with his
book at all. Much of the information is just that, information for you
to make better choices for your pet. It is very well written and packed
with good information on supplements, herb, diet etc. I love this book
and have even learned that there are probably some supplements that I
could add to my diet. I would encourage everyone to buy this book as
it is so easy to read, well formatted, and full of information that
will help me give my dog the healthcare he deserves.

5 out of 5 stars One for your permanent library.......2007-04-29

A beautiful and engaging story, this memoir deals with coming of age, learning to accept and give love, coming to terms with parents, and death and dying. Geneen Roth masterfully writes about many of life's large universal themes and puts them together expertly into a cohesive whole. This story will stick with you. This book is one of those rare gems to keep in your permanent library, one that will surely unfold a different lesson and mystery each time you read it.

5 out of 5 stars Worth re-reading over and over!.......2006-08-04

I love this book and I often re-read it. Funny and clever writing. Easy to relate to and written with heart!

5 out of 5 stars Hope for those who have suffered a loss.......2006-07-12

Parents, like all humans, are imperfect. When they die, we sometimes recall events, actions, and issues that make us question why we may have ever thought they loved us. Pets, on the other hand, come with no strings attached. They love unconditionally and are a source of joy that is boundless. Geneen covers losing both in the funny and touching book, which may offer healing and hope for those who have lost either.

1 out of 5 stars Narcissistic woman, narcissistic family, but the cat is nice........2006-06-10

I was extremely disappointed with this book. It has a great title and the concept of someone who loved neither cats nor herself learning to live with both interested me.
Lo and behold, Geneen Roth spends less than a page describing her antipathy to cats. She gets Blanche, suddenly he's ten years old, and there's no description of how she came to accept something she formerly disliked.
Her description of herself as an overweight, selfhating shopaholic (there are many, many mentions of earrings) is followed by a description of her immediate marriage to an apparent saint. Ms. Roth spends most of the book describing how successful, rich, and spoiled she is--how many people get Zen masters and acupuncture treatments for their cats?--but the greater part is spent on describing her neuroses and her father, pretty much in that order.
Ms. Roth is apparently stung that her father left his money to his wife rather than to her and her brother. If she truly loved her father she'd not have expected anything; after all, his medical treatments were 'only' half a million dollars. His wife is described as working as a secretary. Why does a millionaire's wife work? Possibly because she needs to for financial or personal reasons? In any case, Daddy's money was his, not hers, and he probably felt that Ms. Roth had enough on her own, while the wife needed it more.
This is a self serving tale of a very privileged woman who likes to write about herself. I would have appreciated hearing more about the cat.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful and tearjerking read.......2006-05-14

This book was absolutley wonderful! It pulls at your heart and really makes you think. I recommend it to everyone. Geneen has a great way with words. I have enjoyed some of her other books as well such as Appetites and When You Eat at the Refrigerator Pull Up a Chair.

Book Description

Having trained 30,000 dogs for more than 40 years combined, Brian Kilcommons and Sarah Wilson know a thing or two about North Americas favourite pet. They share their wisdom and experience in this easy-to-understand, user-friendly, and comprehensive guide to selecting a breed, including: which breeds are good for small children, the elderly, the allergic, and the city-dweller; the characteristics of each breed; and which dogs are most compatible with different lifestyles. In addition, unlike most breed books, Paws to Consider discusses medical and behavioral problems typical to particular breeds, and offers fascinating information about canines and their potential owners. Kilcommons and Wilsons Good Owners, Great Dogs (Warner, 1992) netted more than 130,000 hardcover copies.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great book!.......2006-07-01

I loved this book! I had absolutely no idea what kind of dog I wanted to get before reading this book. This book separates the breeds into very logical chapters and also cross-references other chapters that the dogs would fit in. I love dogs so much that I was only able to reduce the number that I'd love to 19, but it made me consider breeds that I never would have before. Once I reviewed my 19 with my family, we were able to bring it down to 6 and I'm now doing research on those 6 in order to determine which one we'll buy. This is a great read if you're toggling between a few breeds and want to make sure you consider the good and the bad in the breeds.

5 out of 5 stars SAVE YOURSELF & YOUR DOG FROM HEARTACHE.......2006-01-23

I wish I could afford to give a copy of this book to every library in the country. I have been a volunteer for different animal shelters and rescue groups for many years. Most animals are turned in to shelters because of a mismatch between the owner and their dog, or because people are unaware of what's involved in pet ownership. The authors give a very realistic appraisal of different breeds. I love "Dog Fancy" magazine, but so many times when they profile a breed they will describe "good with children if they are raised with them." "Paws to Consider" will be straightforward in telling you that a particular breed is not good with children. This book also helps you decide when is the right time to add a dog to your household. Too many dogs are given up because the owners have decided to have a baby and don't want to have a dog around the baby. Or an owner makes an impulsive holiday purchase and comes to regret the decision. It is frequently devastating for a family, especially the children, to give up a dog. It is also traumatic for the dog to lose its home and most of these dogs will be euthanized. "Paws to Consider" goes a long way to promoting happy endings for people and the dogs who join their families.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely Great.......2005-09-02

This book should be mandatory for anyone even thinking of getting a dog. Even if that dog is ten years off. Since I became interested in dogs and dog welfare, I have heard and seen too many times the unhappy scenario of dogs being dumped because their owners just did not bother to do ANY reasearch. Families duped by Beethoven, Lassie, and 101 Dalmations decide tv never lies and buy one for their young children. People who want a guard dog buy a Rottweiler for "protection" and dump it out in the yard. A calm couple wants a "small, quiet, easy-going dog", so they judge on size and get a terrier. A jogger wants a partner and thinks a great dane will keep up.

I love that the book lays it out flat that almost half the breeds listed require more exercize than the average Joe is willing to give them. Sure, we're all charmed by those Weimaraner costume photos... but will you spend at least an hour every day playing with it? Do you even have space for it to do so? Lack of exercize spawns so many behavioral problems that it cannot be emphasized enough. I know another reviewer complained that "too many negatives" were listed for each dog; I prefer it that way. Better that someone realize that the dog they want is too loud, too big, too headstrong, too energetic, too needy, too expensive, or even too gassy, than to get one and then dump it somewhere because they did not realize the mismatch. Or, even better, it may give someone new ideas as far as what is a good match. (Everytime I mention I would love a sighthound, especially an ex-racing greyhound, the immediate reaction is that I shouldn't take something so hyperactive. I say, uh-uh, if I wanted hyperactive, I'd get a lab!)

The book's organization is excellent. It starts off asking why you want a dog and what you want in one. It gives you a starting point as far as where to look for one, and I was ecstatic to see rescue groups mentioned, although I do not think the book went into them enough (it would have been great to say that you can easily find one by googling "[x breed] rescue [your state/area]", or, nowadays, on [...]). I understand that the authors assume the reader wants to buy from a breeder, because I think those people are the ones who will be perusing breeds, and the ones who really need the most assistance. (It's not mean, it's true.) Then the book does something essential - it goes over groups of dog breeds and what jobs they were INTENDED to do, and explains how it affects their behavior and temperament. I recently heard of a man lamenting that he bought a mini schnauzer who was obsessed with his rat cage and would not leave the rats alone. He had not read up that these dogs were originally bred for ratting!

There is a lengthy section going into individual breeds. There are always both pros and cons. Looking into my dog experience and research, I have to say these people know what they are talking about, even without looking at their credentials. The only drawback is that they do not touch on every breed, but then again there are so many it could make this book three times its size. I also think the "not for everyone" section is great, but could use more info. The more people are discouraged from getting Rotts and Pits on a whim, the better.

I personally think there is enough info here to find that dog you want, but it is always recommended that you look to other sources; the book itself says so. Spend time with members of your chosen breed, search the web, read other books. Then buy Kilcommon's/Wilson's Good Dogs, Great Owners, and you're on your way!

5 out of 5 stars Informative and concise.......2005-08-06

The best thing about this book is the common sense advice the authors give--("If you live in an all-white house, don't get a Bouvier des Flandres"). The realistic expectations, both good and bad, outlined for each breed are infinitely more helpful than, say, the breed standards promulgated by the AKC. Most of us want a pet, not a show-dog. While the information on each breed is very specific, there is helpful information in the beginning for any dog owner or potential owner. I also bought "Good Owners, Great Dogs" by the same authors. Great book as well.

1 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.......2005-03-31

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK, BRIAN KILCOMMONS AND SARAH WILSON ARE BOTH COMPLETE IDIOTS. WE USED THIS BOOK AS A REFERENCE WHEN WE BOUGHT OUR BICHON FRISE, WHAT A MISTAKE. IN THE BOOK IT STATES A BICHON CAN BE A 9-5 DOG SO WE BOUGHT ONE. BICHONS ARE EXTREMELY HARD TO HOUSEBREAK,ALL THE BOOK SAYS IS THEY 'CAN' BE HARD TO HOUSEBREAK. THIS BOOK HAS COST US HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. WE ENDED UP GIVING OUR DOG AWAY TONIGHT BECAUSE WE COULD NOT GET IT POTTY TRAINED AND AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH FOUND OUT THAT BICHONS DO NOT LIKE TO BE LEFT HOME ALONE. THE BOOK ALSO SAYS THAT A SHIH TZU IS A NINE TO FIVE DOG BUT AFTER RESEARCHING THAT BREED THEY ALSO DO NOT LIKE TO BE HOME ALONE ALL DAY. Book Description

Alex just has to convince his mom to let him have an iguana, so he puts his arguments in writing. He promises that she won't have to feed it or clean its cage or even see it if she doesn't want to. Of course Mom imagines life with a six-foot-long iguana eating them out of house and home. Alex's reassurances: It takes fifteen years for an iguana to get that big. I'll be married by then and probably living in my own house. and his mom's replies: How are you going to get a girl to marry you when you own a giant reptile? will have kids in hysterics as the negotiations go back and forth through notes. And the lively, imaginative illustrations show their polar opposite dreams of life with an iguana.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully entertaining.......2007-07-29

I purchased this book for my grandsons, I read it first and laughed through out. Then I gave it to them and they also thought it was funny. It's very entertaining, and written for adults and children.

5 out of 5 stars Alex could be your child.......2007-03-14

This book is so wonderfully written by Karen Orloff that Alex is able to appeal to all ages, races and genders. If your child has ever asked for a pet you can identify with this book. The mother son relationship is how we all remember our grown and almost grown little boys starting out.

5 out of 5 stars I WANNA, I WANNA, I WANNA ..........2007-01-12

THIS BOOK DESERVES A MEDAL AND I WILL GIVE YOU THE REASONS FOR THIS STARTING WITH THE STRONGEST REASON.... no just kidding... I will not try to persuade you to buy this book like the little boy Alex "successfully" persuades his mom to buy him an iguana... This is an excellent book to kickstart a writing lesson or a debating lesson on persuasion - an what a hoot... an age level I think in the elementry grades would find this entertaining and be able to also find some text-self understanding here. Every child from the dawning of time has always wanted a pet... be i a small one like a fish or hamster.... but what about an iguana he/she is small now but???

Terrific book - The kids and YOU will love it

5 out of 5 stars I Wanna Read It Over and Over Again.......2006-11-09

I saw this in the library at school and HOWLED with laughter (much to the librarian's dismay) and fell in love with it. Great book, imaginative, HILARIOUS and definitely will be loved by children.

5 out of 5 stars Persuasive writing.......2006-04-02

Teachers can look to this story as a great example of persuasive writing. Young Alex is trying to pursuade his mother to let him adopt an iguana. In a series of hilarious notes between Alex and his mother, the terms and conditions of pet ownership are hammered out. There is a "money" page (the point where the whole class bursts out in raucous laughter.) David Catrow illustrations are wonderfully comic. One young listener observed, "That kid is really weird looking." The last page evoked a class wide, arm pumping "Yesssss..." along with Alex. Great fun!

5 out of 5 stars The BEST dog trick book ever.......2007-09-15

I've purchased many dog behavior and trick books over the years. This little gem is definitely the best trick book. My golden and I have had many great times learning some of the tricks. Easy to follow and the progressive technique makes great sense. I'm amazed at how fast he can learn following the simple directions. Patience and consistency as always is the key.

    5 out of 5 stars Tricks.......2007-08-28

This is a very good book. It has may good points about tricks and teaching your dog.

    4 out of 5 stars Great Book.......2007-06-08

This was a great book. Easy to follow steps. Needs more pictures. A DVD to go along with it would be better.

5 out of 5 stars my first dog book.......2007-05-13

For me this book was very helpful..about 5 or so months ago our family came accross a lost puppy so we tried to find her owners but couldnt...I knew we couldnt just give her up so we addopted her and I set myself out to raise her right. It was hard looking for a good book because I've never owned a dog and i dont know the basics...but after looking long and hard I decided I'd go with this...this book is truely helpfull the book doesnt just show you how to train your dog but how to raise her from the roots like potty training and dicipline. To me its not just a trick book its a helpful tool in you and your dogs life.

5 out of 5 stars Certainly worth the read.......2007-04-26

I bought this book to train my two year old Jack Russell. The author uses repeated training methods that are easy understand and most were simple enough for my dog to learn when I would execute them properly. Since my dog is very trainable by nature most of the tricks were worth the effort. The book offers easy to very difficult tricks which is helpful for the novice dog handler. While reading toward the end of the book I began to feel inadequate since I knew my dog wouldn't ever begin to work through the show stopping tricks that might be appropriate for a circus act. All in all I recommend buying this book if you'd like a handbook type reference to train you dog in a humane manner.

    Book Description

How does an old woman who has outlived all her friends keep from being lonely? By naming the things in her life she knows she will never outlive--like her house, Franklin, and her bed, Roxanne. When a shy brown puppy appears at her front gate, the old woman won’t name it, because it might not outlive her. Tender watercolors capture the charm of this heartwarming story of an old woman who doesn’t know she’s lonely until she meets a plucky puppy who needs a name--and someone to love.

    5 out of 5 stars What's in a Name.......2006-08-16

Cynthia Rylant has done it again-- this story tells of an elderly woman who has outlived most of those she loved and doesn't want to risk a new attachment-but but a nameless stray dog changes her mind. The story is done with a wonderful blend of humor and poignancy. It is a favorite in one pre-K classroom I know--wonderful way to positively approach those tricky issues of aging and death with young children.

5 out of 5 stars Richie's Picks: THE OLD WOMAN WHO NAMED THINGS.......2006-07-08

Ten years after first reading this aloud at circle time, Rylant's lovely story of the old woman who has to decide to, once more, take a chance on love and loss, has become a beloved old friend to me. Brown's quirky illustrations are quite memorable--especially the joyous spread near the end of the story in which the dog, with his tongue hanging out, happily sticks his head out the window of the old woman's car that is driving him home. Cynthia Rylant has won a Newbery for MISSING MAY, and has authored HENRY AND MUDGE, the greatest easy reader series ever published. THE OLD WOMAN WHO NAMED THINGS is absolutely right up there with the best of her work.

    5 out of 5 stars My Favorite Children's Book.......2005-11-14

This book is so emotionally satisfying. Cynthia Rylant brings the universal struggle of choosing to risk love and loss to a child's level. I never tire of reading it to my daughters (ages 5 & 3). They love the book, as well.

    4 out of 5 stars It holds children's interest.......2005-10-09

I thought that this book was funny for children at the grade l level that I teach.

    5 out of 5 stars A Great Book.......2005-07-21

I thought this was such a cute story. An old woman has started naming her things because she has outlived all her friends. One day a little dog comes to her gate. She does not want to become attached to this animal, but when the little dog stops coming to her house she gets upset. Read to find out what she does next. The illustrations really add to the story. I enjoyed reading, but I loved looking at the illustrations even more, especially the smiling car!

I read this book. It was a sweet book with innocents. It will bring a tear if you are a tender like myself. This book relates to real todays times.

    2 out of 5 stars TIGHT TIMES.......2005-12-16

You might not like this book. The best part of this story is when he finds a cat in the trashcan. And he all ways wanted a dog.And I did not like the book becuse it got boring when you just read it all the time. But you might like it.But it was kind of good.

4 out of 5 stars Sweet story and realistic........2005-09-17

This is a sweet story about a family that experiences financial troubles. I actually purchased and used it to help my high school students with inferencing - it worked well.

    5 out of 5 stars A Very Touching Book.......2000-06-17

I cried when I read this story. That doesn't happen very often to me while reading a children's book, but Tight Times is so sweet that I was very moved. The story is about a small family doing their best to cope despite their financial troubles. The parents are worried and feel bad for their son. Seeing their child do without is so much harder on them than their own deprivation. It was gratifying that the little boy found a way to get a pet after all. The little family is filled with such a stong love that the reader knows that somehow things will turn out well for them, despite their problems. The artwork is excellent. In particular, the drawing of the mother and father hugging their son says more than words ever could. I just love this book and recommend it for any family, whether having "tight times" or not.

I can't say enough about the Henry and Mudge series, this is just the latest in a superb collection. My son, who is almost 8, has been reading and re-reading these books from about the age of 5. In the beginning, I'd read them to him. Now, he reads them to me and our dog Daphne, that is, until she curls up and falls asleep!
