5 out of 5 stars What an awesome tool!.......2007-10-02

Living in the desert southwest, I am constantly running into avid golfers. I am a busy mom of three young children and embarrassingly, I have never had time to learn the game of golf. Feeling Naked on the 1st Tee has totally given me everything I need to know and quick! Now I can get out there and look like a pro. How exciting! Thank you for this awesome tool!!

4 out of 5 stars Very helpful first golf book.......2007-08-29

a handy little book with just the right approach for me, a woman without a lot of sports experience who has decided to take up what is probably one of the most challenging sports - really gave me the 'quick and dirty' on what to look for in equipment, the basic rules, the layout of a hole - and did it all with a sense of humor - highly recommend

5 out of 5 stars New golfer age 65--ITS MY BIBLE.......2007-08-22

Got this as a gift-it was interesting--but as I started with lessons it became "MY BIBLE "-it cuts to the chase and simplifies the facts-what this book tells you certainly does help you to feel more informed on what you Need to know and what other golfers EXPECT you to know---I walk with more confidence about the course even though my striking of the ball is sometimes lacking--but with having this confidence I know my ball strokes will become better and better!!!!-hope to be a good golfer!!!!!
Thanks Ann Kelly--for having loved the game so much that you wanted to share it with others by easing those Jitters that even you must have once had

5 out of 5 stars Thank you Ann Kelly!!.......2007-08-20

This is the perfect book for my wife who is just about to start playing golf. It will help anyone get over the intimidation factor that all golfers have felt. A very pleasant read and most informative.

5 out of 5 stars A concise, thorough look at the basics of golf........1997-02-26

Thomas Fahey has done a remarkable job in his delivery of basic golf information. This book is extremely easy to read. Enough so, that I found it a delightfully enjoyable read from cover to cover. The photos, diagrams, and drawings aided greatly in helping to convey each topic clearly. At only 130 pages, this book is very concise and to the point. "Basic Golf" is at the top of my favorite list and should be considered a must read for any beginning golfer

"Golf," writes Malcolm Campbell, "is as much, or perhaps even more about how it is played as it is about how well it is played," and it is the hows with which this clear and well-illustrated little gem is concerned. As the title implies, the guide is a concise manual of the game's written and unwritten codes: its ethics and principles as well as its rules. Not sure about how to book a tee time, when to hit, how to dress, your pace of play, or the best ways to repair a divot and rake a bunker? The Pocket Guide to Golf Etiquette can navigate novices and low-handicappers alike through the game's confusing shoals. Best of all, it's small enough to carry in your golf bag, and, with its pliable hide cover, sturdy enough to survive those inevitable on-course moments when temper overrules temperance, and manners beg for a quick refresher.

5 out of 5 stars A Tiny Book so you don't make Big Mistakes.......2002-09-29

This is a book about the do's and don'ts of behaviour on the golf course and in the clubhouse. There is guidance for every situation you could imagine.

This tiny book fits nicely into a leather cover so you can keep it in your golf bag.

"There can be few things more irritating, and at times even infuritating, for a golfer than to find his game ruined by thougtless and ignorant behavior by other players on the course."

Simple things like picking up your broken tee sound logical, but then again there are still people who toss trash from their cars. So, you just never know.

Very Matter-of-Fact style. This is just what
is expected.

Letting faster players move ahead of your group, being aware of time-saving-tips (like removing gloves while walking) will keep the game moving smoothly along.

The section on taking care of the course was informative. Simple things like raking away footprints helps the next golfer if their golf ball happens to rest in the exact spot where you just walked.

Helpful tips like protecting your set of golf clubs while travelling abroad and taking the proper clothes for various
weather conditions helps to protect you and your
investment.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best "how-to" book I've read on achievement.......2005-07-26

This is a really great book on the building blocks and requirements for attaining fulfilling achievement. I think one of the best parts of this book for me was the author's classification of achievement as an art. This softened the definition of achievement for me and liberated the concept from my perception as a cold, money-producing necessity to something beautiful, fulfilling, exciting and worthy of creation. Everyone is different, of course, and how we do things is always different from how others do things, even when we seemingly are doing the same thing. We all put our personalities into everything we do. That combined with our ability to choose how we use our unique, God-given abilities to create achievement art that will help both ourselves and others, makes fulfilling achievement very worth creating.

Tom Morris, according to the book, was a very popular philosophy professor at the University of Notre Dame. I don't doubt it. He breaks the art of achievement into seven c's and fully explains them all. He explains his thoughts, backs them up with further explanations, discusses them, tells of real-life examples, and further peppers the pages with quotes from past philosophers that support his assertions and conclusions. One thing he doesn't do is preach to you what he feels he knows is right and then expect you to automatically take his word for it as many persons do. I hate it when I run into that type of attitude. Tom Morris' tone is friendly and in addition to teaching, he convinces you throughout.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is stuck in a rut and feels that they're not achieving to their full potential, for whatever reason. He covers so much territory within each of his seven c's and in each of their supporting discussions that I think there is a lot in here for just about anyone in this predicament.

My only warning about this book: His politically correct college experience is no doubt responsible for the need he apparently felt to be conspicuously inclusive of both sexes in his examples throughout the book. He switches back and forth from the use of "he" and "him" to "she" and "her" in his examples and each time he did I found it very distracting from the discussion. Very annoying, but this is just a heads-up. Otherwise, the book is top notch and if you buy it, I'm betting you'll be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars The Art of Achievement.......2005-03-04

Great book , very interesting and resourceful.simple to understand and based on practical solutions. I can recommend this book to any one who wants to have a head start in life.
You will enjoy every bit of it

4 out of 5 stars Good thinking.......2003-06-09

Great book of thought-provoking ideas. If you need to reflect on where you are in life, and where you want to go next, this book provides some insightful questions - not answers.

5 out of 5 stars Agesless Wisdoms Integrated into a Practical Success Guide.......2003-02-17

This book does the reader a great service. With Tom's academic background he has searched the wisdoms of the ages to bring you a practical framework which will guide you in creating success in your life and business. His entertaining presentation style comes across in his writing, making this book very intriguing. It is a book that should be read and re-read as one implements the 7 C's of success. I will recommend this book to students and executives to give them an edge in making their careers and lives more successful. An inspiring and uplifting book. It will motivate you to achieve your dreams. It is "must have" for everyone's library.

5 out of 5 stars A True Success Book At Last!.......2003-02-14

I am sorely disappointed that many of the major bookstores are not carrying The Art of Achievement.

It should be proudly displayed on the New Book stand in all its glory!

I've read other "success" oriented books and I can honestly say that Tom Morris latest book carries a depth far surpassing the majority. Although the subtitle "Mastering the 7 Cs of Success in Business and Life" may sound typical and perhaps a bit trite the vast amount of wisdom, insight, spirit and inspiration within these pages brings one to a point of realization, comfort and hope other pop books on success simply cannot touch!

If you have not been able to win friends and influence people. If your cheese has been moved and eaten up. If your prayer of Jabez is left unanswered it's time you to learn how to master the 7 c's of success!

    4 out of 5 stars Worth a quick read.......2007-10-11

Read this book in combination with Golf for Dummies as I begin the process of taking up the game. It is worth a quick read. No book is a substitute for lessons with a PGA pro, which I am doing. However, it is useful to be alerted to the culture of golf and able to avoid being a jerk unintentionally.

3 out of 5 stars Long on etiquette, short on rules.......2003-11-14

I was looking for a book to explain the rules better, and this wasn't it. It went into lots of details about etiquette, tipping, how to play with your boss, etc.. The author expresses lots of personal philosophy about why you should walk, why you should use a caddy, and all about betting. The rules section was a short discussion that didn't elaborate on the USGA handbook much.

The stories are enjoyable, especially the one about the Chairman at Augusta National offering to cut a deck a cards for a loudmouth gambler's entire 40 million net worth.

This is one to borrow, not to buy.

This book was a complete waste of money. I learned nothing that I didn't already know. The author also has a preachy, holier than thou style that is extremely grating. I was embarassed to have spend good money on this book.

5 out of 5 stars very ineteresting and informative!.......2001-06-08

I got this book to learn the basic rules of golf, i did just that. I would recomened this book to any begaining golfer. The author keeps you interested in what you are reading by puting real life experincesin hte text. This is worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars Golf Etiquette is necessary in the new age of Golf.......2007-08-24

The book is good and is helping me teach my Grand Nephiews and Grand Nieces the etiquette of golf. I purchased each of them a Guide and they are reading it. They range in age from 9 to 15 years old.

I have seen a marked improvement in thier demeanor on the course during rounds of golf.

This is a very good book to give as presents for the fledgling golfer.

1 out of 5 stars Golf Rules & Etiquette Crystal Clear.......2007-06-02

I will no longer rely on Amazon reviews to purchase a book. I bought this book because of the rave reviews and find that the book is just about worthless. I am no expert in the rules of golf but expected to learn much more from this book. If you are just a beginner it might be worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars Just the book I've been looking for.......2007-03-09

I have bought golf rules books in the past, but they were incomprehensible. This book is very easy to understand and a delight to read. The illustrations are clear and detailed enough to explain every situation imaginable. I have always wanted to know if I've been scoring correctly (I haven't), and now I know how. It's a little too big for the golf bag, but it is indispensable for anyone who enjoys the game. I look forward to using it as a reference for many years to come.

    5 out of 5 stars Finally...rules that I can understand!.......2007-02-11

This is so easy to read that it's almost entertaining!

5 out of 5 stars Yes, it really is crystal clear!.......2006-04-20

This was a delightful book and unexpectedly fun to read. The illustrations are plentiful, well thought out and make a big difference in understanding the text. The writing style is lucid and insightful as well, making this book the complete package on this subject. I learned more from this book than two other "simple" rules books and a video.

A really useful bonus is the section on etiquette. You are not as likely to be asked out with a group or have as enjoyable a round if you are not aware/do not follow the game's etiquette!

5 out of 5 stars The Art of the Business Lunch.......2007-04-17

This is a fabulous book for learning to entertain with sales in mind. It explains how to have a positive effect on others and sell yourself successfully during a meal or networking event. In today's world with the decline of social graces, this book is like a breath of fresh air. It gives practical and applicable tips and techniques to take relationships to a higher level. It teaches the importance of building solid relationships that will increase business. Great information...for anyone who needs to sell him/herself. I also had the opportunity to hear Robin Jay speak recently and the information she shared was solid gold.

3 out of 5 stars For those who dont appreciate the usefulness of a business lunch.......2006-08-08

Dont know whether I had too high an expectation of it under the influence of its title "the ART of the ...." or the very favorable comment on the back cover and here on Amazon I had been a little bit disappointed. Perhaps I have been in the business for long so I truly believe that the ideas covered by the author should be readily practised by even the mildly successful sales or account executives. If you are a greenhand in the industry or you honestly consider yourself ignorant of business etiquette and networking, the book is still fine for you. However, if you want to read something of the advanced level, "Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time" by Keith Ferrazzi and Tahl Raz would be a much better but demanding choice.

5 out of 5 stars Great advice to make any business relationship better.......2006-06-03

If building more productive business relationships interests you, you'll want to read The Art of the Business Lunch: Building Relationships Between 12 and 2 by Robin Jay.

Ms. Jay, the "Queen of the Business Lunch," explains that successful business relationships are built and enhanced at lunch. Better than a stuffy board room or office cubicle, a restaurant setting brings elements of class, style and fun to just about any business meeting. This outside-the-office setting allows people to get to know each other on a more personal level and personal relationships make for better business dealings.

The book is filled with excellent advice and interesting anecdotes on how to make all your lunch meetings more productive and successful. You'll discover how to create lunch opportunities, how turn every business lunch into a relationship building experience, which fork to use when, and so much more.

Even if you don't think of yourself as a salesperson, you'll still benefit from The Art of the Business Lunch. We all need to network productively and conduct ourselves in professional settings with grace and style; this book details just how to do that and so much more.

      1 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2006-05-28

This book was a disappointment. The artwork on the cover is enticing. Essentially the book is a series of anecdotes with few tips or advice of real substance. A much better book has been written by an Australian author called "Charming up Profits". I would have to say that the book was a piece of sef-promotional self-indulgence doubtless designed to support the author's speaking engagements. I had expected so much more.

5 out of 5 stars READ THIS BOOK!.......2006-04-29

This is an awesome book whether you are hosting or being hosted at any business function as it gives you much more than just "doing lunch". I have been in the retail/wholesale clothing business for over 18 years and sat on both sides of the table. This is a must read for anyone in the business world as it really goes into depth about the "art" of doing business in social settings. Now get this book then call someone and ask them, "Wanna have lunch?".
