Inspiring Photos & Ideas.......2007-01-09
I love this book! If you're planning your wedding and your vision is both tasteful, stylish, & classy - I highly recommend this book! I've had it for a few months now and my wedding is still 6 months away - I refer back to the book for additional ideas! Additionally, the photos are beautiful!
In Style: Weddings.......2006-11-04
If you are planning a wedding, this is a great resource. It is full of ideas covering off so many different areas, including rings, ceremonies, cakes, flowers etc. The gorgeous presentation makes it an item to keep forever.
The One Stop Shop Book.......2006-07-08
I loved the Instyle Weddings Edition. It was very thorough and nice hard cover quality. I would definately recommend this to all bride and grooms to be!
Wow! What a book!.......2006-04-24
I saw this book in Amazon together with Martha Stewart's Wedding Book and since I admire Style's Wedding magazine, I decided to purchase this book. What a great find! It has ideas on every aspect of the wedding. Lots of very cool ideas. I particularly like the ideas for photos and beauty. Definitely worth it.
Beautiful Book for Budding Bridezillas.......2006-01-25
If you are planning a monster wedding (you know who you are, Bridezilla) this is the manual of choice. "In Style: Weddings" uses their format of large, beautiful photographs and snappy sections on everything from what the best man does in the wedding to how to do your makeup for the big day.
The sections are lavishly photographed. The cake chapter has pictures of fondant-iced fantasy cakes--but it also has an idea for a tower-of-cupcakes that might suit a budget affair (more on this later.)
In Style doesn't fail to include a lot of dishing about what this and that celebrity did for their wedding, which will add to any bride-to-be's dreaming about her big day. There are sections on hair, with very pretty ideas for how to make an up-do with ornaments. A section on makeup and one IMPORTANT section on dress selection. Hint: tall and big brides should stay away from those Cinderella ballgowns with the huge chiffon skirts, lest they look like a battleship being launched. Likewise, it was rather enlightening about how many celebrities these days choose to be married in what to me looks like their slip or nightie. There are hints as well for the dresses of the attendants. And a nice selection of items that could be used as wedding favors and groom's gifts.
There was less devoted to menus than I'd like to see, but plenty on the types of venues (outdoors and indoors.) There were lists for planning. And a wonderful section on flowers with photos that would make anyone drool.
While I give this book a top five star rating, I'd like to point out to the star-struck bride that weddings these days average about twenty-seven THOUSAND dollars. That's a lotta scratch, my matrimonially-inclined readers. Consider than this amount, invested and earning a modest six percent would double in about twelve years. So consider that perhaps the ideal wedding might be a pigroast under a tent with a local bluegrass band. Costing a lot less than the average. Think about how much a big wedding is worth to you before you get in over your head.
Book Description
Have you ever cringed at the sight of your four-year-old waltzing through the neighbor’s front door without an invitation? Have you ever had to call to apologize when your six-year-old forgot to thank his grandmother for the birthday gift she so lovingly sent? How about the formal dinner for Dad’s promotion when your ten-year-old decided that she didn’t like the meal she’d ordered, and then refused to eat a thing—making for an uncomfortable evening for you, the other guests, and the waiter? As a parent, you’ve probably experienced these and many more instances when it seemed that your children had forgotten their manners completely, leaving you frazzled and embarrassed.
Sheryl Eberly’s
365 Manners Kids Should Know gives clever and insightful advice for the myriad of situations where consideration counts, but is sometimes forgotten. Using her smart one-manner-a-day format, parents, grandparents, and even aunts and uncles can find practical ways to teach basic manners, such as:
* How to address elders when being introduced
* How to write a thank-you note
* The polite way to answer the telephone
* How to accept and decline an invitation
* What is expected at formal occasions such as weddings, funerals, and religious services
Full of role-playing exercises, games, and other activities that parents can do with their children,
365 Manners Kids Should Know helps parents and other caregivers understand not only what manners to teach, but also how—and at what ages—to present them. Most important,
365 Manners Kids Should Know makes learning manners fun.

Practical and Helpful.......2007-07-26
This book was practical and specific and covered many topics that parents may fail to address, but need to be reminded of for instilling manners in their chldren.
Excellent Comprehensive Guide.......2007-05-24
365 Manners Kids Should Know is the best comprehensive guide to children's manners I've found. The calendar entries are arranged under 23 sections, among them "Getting Along With Other Kids," "Table Manners Made Easy," and "Be a Guest and Host." This is a parent's book, meant to be used as a teaching guide, perhaps read to the child one entry per day, though I think it would be more useful to focus on certain sections when approaching an event: "Gifts--Giving and Getting" when attending or hosting a party; "Vacation Time" before taking off somewhere. Practical activities are sprinkled throughout the text, such as helping your child read the movie page in the newspaper, or making a card to celebrate a friend's religious holiday. The tone is cordial but businesslike, with none of the false gaiety so common to books on children's manners. What's more, I found entries I haven't found in other books such as acknowledging another's presence when s/he enters the room; giving compliments; and positive use of humor. The writer runs her own company presenting manners instruction seminars to children, young adults, and businesspeople. Her instructions show empathy for all parties involved, for the "others" with whom the child will be associating, and for the child himself.
Awsome book!.......2007-04-27
This is a great book for both kids and adults. You can learn so much from itand whats even greater is that its a day by day book. you could read one page oryou can even skip around like I do and it shows you some great activities to do wih your kids to encourage their good manners. This book talks about manners for both young kids all the way through young adulthood. Its very simple to understand and fun to read! I recommend this book for everyone.
Can be useful.......2007-04-25
First the positive. This book has a lot of ideas about manners, teaching manners. There is enough in this book to fill up a years worth of lessons (obviously).
The problems with this book is that many of the manners are broken down into tiny tiny parts and these parts are spread through out the book. For example, it might teach you how to address men (Mr.) one day and then a week later teach you how to address women who are married (Mrs.)
This gives it a feeling of being disorganized because each part of a manner is broken down and it is spread through out the book, rather than being in one place.
If you are considering buying this book I'd suggest this is one you want to look at and see if it provides what you want in a manner you can use.
The children and I refer to this book but for the most part it sits on the shelf unusued.
Disorganized.......2007-01-10
I bought this book on a recommendation and was disappointed. Most of the content is decent, but it is poorly laid out and not user friendly.

This is a great book.......2007-10-07
I was hesitant to buy this book cause of all the bad reviews, but i did anyway; and im glad i did. Im 19 and this book gave me a lot of inspiration and wisdom. The book is smart but it appeals directly to kids my age (and younger too.) He talks about a lot of issues that most kids feel like they cant bring up to their parents, such as drugs, sex, alchohal that kindove thing. But anyway im really happy i ignored those negative comments, and you should too if your thinking of buying the book. I notice that a lot of the ppl giving the bad reviews are doing it because they dont like Bill, because the book i read was one of the best books on the subject of teen issues. So buy this book for your kids, i promise you wont regret it!

You can't judge a book..........2007-10-05
...by the reviews of a lot of people who have *never read it*. Like many of O'Reilly's harshest critics these "reviewers" base their analysis on third-hand opinions culled from the propaganda found on extreme left-wing websites; without looking at all to the source material. If you're the type who bases his/her understanding of current events on slogans from bumper stickers shilled at the campus bookstore then this book isn't for you.
Kids have a rough time of it, especially in school settings. It's great to see a public figure with experience in the classroom reaching out to kids with solid common-sense advice to help them navigate reality.
it's good to know Bill O'reilly cares.......2007-10-02
I loved this book and I brought it to school and reviewed it for my class.
Thanks Bill for the A+ I got and for remembering kids and this book for us.
Keep This Man Away From Kids!!!!.......2007-09-28
This man may have the most popular news show in America but that is because he appeals to simple war mongering Americans. He does his upmost to undermine the standards of the American press. Don't buy this book and if you see him near any school yards, call the police immediately!!
A LIFE PRESERVER FOR OUR KIDS........2007-06-26
BILL O'REILLY FACTOR FOR KIDS IS ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OUT FOR KIDS TODAY. HE GIVES PRACTICAL ADVICE THAT KIDS CAN UNDERSTAND IN THIS WORLD OF UNCERTIANTY, WHEN EVERYTHING HAS TO BE PC, AND THOSE WHO ARE IN HIGHER LEARNING SOMETIMES DOES NOT HAVE THEIR BEST INTEREST AT HEART. GIVE THIS BOOK TO ALL YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN, IT CAN HELP THEM SURVIVE.

Common sense...I was looking for more........2007-06-27
I was looking for true, refined etiquette here. This book was only stating the obvious. It is for someone who is starting from ground zero (don't run around yelling on an airplane, don't talk with your mouth full, say please and thank you.)I started to doubt the entire book once I read something like "a lady spits out her gum before she goes into the theatre" or something of that sort.
A true lady does not chew gum in the first place, it is considered crass. This book didn't even know that. I was disappointed.
Outstanding.......2006-11-16
It pointed out a lot of great manners and discipline in a way that's not ordinarily easy to explain, and it's great for all ages.
basic, but some items were "wake up" calls for me........2006-10-11
I grew up in a average middle class home 40 years ago and found most of this information to be common sense. The book did offer some suggestions on how to deal with specific issues, that I found helpfull. My daughter is grown. But my boyfriend has 2 small kids. I benifited most from points such as; teaching kids how to act when they invite a friend over (while the info was, to me, common sense, the book made me realize that I actually have to teach this stuff). I also liked all the reminders of how adult behavior impacts kids (if you want kids to show respect to adults or people in positions of authority is it smart for you to be disrespectful to our political leaders that you feel are doing a bad job?I know I often bad mouth them). This book helped me to think about what I want to teach (respect, honesty, caring) and how my daily actions can be seen by young minds.
Do the World a Favor: Raise a Lady.......2006-06-17
We can't all be graduates or send the young girls in our lives to Miss Porter's School or luxurious finishing schools in Europe, but since children model their parents until they establish their own identity .... a few good manners is all it takes. A great book to help anyone with a young girl in their life be a positive role model and mentor. Being a lady opens alot of doors throughout one's life.

Finally, the help I need.......2000-10-21
Trying to raise children in today's world is tough. Trying to raise children with old-fashioned manners seems to be impossible. This wonderful book has reminded me of all the courtesies that I had forgotten, but would like to see in my son and daughter. It is helping me teach my children the importance of good manners. My thanks to the author.
Youth of Today in Need of Manners.......2000-05-23

An Excellent Handbook for Raising Thoughtful Children.......2006-12-29
There are tons of books that cover how to raise children properly. Some are way out of touch and some are quite useful. This book definitely fits the latter description. The most useful advise in it for me was to not expect things from children that they cannot provide. At the same time, it does not suggest allowing children to misbehave without being corrected. It is not so much a matter of all or none. Rather it is a matter of taking the right approach and having realistic expectations for the outcome.
It would be nice if raising kids was as simple as turning a switch on and off, but the book explains why this is not so. It makes no effort to suggest that any of the methods will be easy to implement, especially when they must be over and over again, with patience and dedication. It also breaks down realistic expectations by age group, each one having its own issues.
I have made use of the book when I work professionally with children. Much of the suggestions even work well with special needs children where the text needs to be applied based on individual development where the mental age of the child is lower than the physical age. Whatever the case, it provides a lot of coaching for the attitude of the adult where setting the best example is essential, especially when children are at their most difficult.
Book Description
This guide to proper behavior at the dinner table provides an introduction to etiquette for kids and a refresher in manners for adults. Offering three tips for each letter of the alphabet, kids are asked to examine the factors that contribute to proper form. Guides Polly Politely and Milton Manners introduce kids to the correct way of handling situations such as choosing utensils at the table, passing the salt and pepper, chewing ice, and disposing of olive pits. In addition to situation-specific guidance (“Finger foods, like an airplane, need to land somewhere first. . . . No direct flights from the serving dish into the mouth”), this book provides the means for determining appropriate behavior in any situation by asking children to consider those around them.
Customer Reviews:
great book; some concerns.......2005-04-05
I ordered this book for my young granddaughter who, at nearly 3 years of age, is ready to consider simple discussion of table manners. I am generally delighted with the book and believe it is one that can grow with a child, having applications even into adulthood.
I was startled, however, to find lie-lay errors on pp. 7 and 55. I also note numerous other small changes that would greatly improve a future edition. For example, some pages are written in the imperative, some are written in the declarative....some are in the third person, some are in the second person, and at least one (p. 44) slips into the first person plural. In addition, frequent use of unnecessary quotation marks is distracting.
The book fills an important niche in a child's library, but it is limited by the above weaknesses. I do not mean to be critical....I have corrected pp. 7 and 55 in my edition and will enjoy this charmingly illustrated book with my granddaughter. You could do the same.
Manners Made Fun!.......2003-10-28
You've Got Manners is a delightful, creative book which makes learning manners a fun and interesting "game" for children of all ages. It can be used as a learning tool whether at the dinner table, eating out or traveling, and all family members can participate. I love the author's use of illustrations and vivid primary colors which are instrumental in keeping a child's attention. The author also cleverly incorporated another learning tool, the alphabet. I can unequivocally recommend You've Got Manners for every family's library.
Manners made fun.......2003-10-16
The charming characters, bright colors, and friendly verse make this book a delightful learning experience into the world of manners, for children young and old. I recommend it highly.

Not outstanding, but useful.......2005-10-09
The ideas that were provided were elementary. Nothing was exciting. Useful if you have no idea what you are doing, but boring if you are already creative. Alot of "create it yourself" invitations out of construction paper. Okay to purchase just as a reference for quick ideas.
A GREAT PARTY BOOK!.......2000-03-23
This book had a lot of neat ideas and and game suggestions for different holidays and gatherings. A must have if you are out of holiday ideas!
