Growing Rich.......2007-05-07
**** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ****
This book is not about money but I can certainly see how people who would incorporate the knowledge in this book could get ahead. For me this was a book of "Golden Rules", which if followed, would definitely bring riches to ones life. I don't know of a single person I wouldn't recommend this book to. Get it, you won't be disappointed.
Weekly Devotional For success.......2007-03-25
Napoleon Hill is the recognized expert on all things success. In this book, Hill reveals how you can grow rich, and keep your mental act together at the same time. Typical of Hill's writing style, the book is easy to read, and features numerous examples from his real life experience. Specifically, this book covers, among many other things:
Why some succeed and others don't.
Helping your children succeed.
Overcoming fear
Living your own life
This book focuses on achieving success through positive relationships and a healthy mental attitude. For more information on achieving financial success, you may want to read "The 17 Principles of Creating Wealth," by Phillip Collinsworth.
52 weeks to growing rich with Napolean Hill.......2004-06-11
I have to admit that I am a huge fan of Napolean Hill. I loved Think and Grow Rich and I love virtually everythingelse he wrote as well.
I found this book to be excellent as a supplement to Think and Grow Rich. I keep a copy on my desk and read Napolean Hills wisdom before I commence the day. It works.
Home Truths.......2002-11-05
Napolean Hill talks about attitude, outlook and how they influence a person's destiny. He's right and communicates this message to anyone who will listen. This book also has updated material more relevant to our time. If anyone is serious about changing their circumstance then this book is a good place to start.
Manuscript for Success.......2002-08-19
This is a wonderful book. What you are supposed to do is read a chapter a week. I had to plow right through the whole thing.
What Mr. Hill teaches, among other things is that you have to decide Exactly what you want, make a plan and go for it. He teaches about 40 other things too, but that is the main point.
Mr. Hill uses excellent examples from personal experience how to accomplish great things.
I'm sure you will love this book if you love success/self help type books.

Fantastic book!.......2007-10-15
I read this book years ago, when I was about 10 years old and didn't even understand fully the depth of the Holocaust. But even then I enjoyed this tale of a girl surviving against the odds. Great book for everyone; helps even the young to understand the plight of millions during that dark era and got me interesting in the Holocaust.
A Heart Breaking Story of Survival.......2007-10-01
This book will leave you speechless. Just when you think humanity can
go no lower, the author describes acts that leave you amazed that
humans can be so cruel. A story of survival that needs to be told so that
we never forget the loss of so many innocent lives.
one of the best.......2007-07-10
I have been reading many Holocaust memoirs in search of one that would be appropriate to use in teaching junior high English; this memoir is the best I have found for teens because it is written from the perspective of a young adolescent girl. The voice in the memoir is so different because even though she is trapped in the death camp, she still has many of the same cares and worries of a normal teenage girl. When she talks about how she had a crush on a young Jewish boy in the ghetto, feeling ugly after her hair is shorn off, her frequent fights with her critical mother, or her excitement about being told she was pretty, she could easily be one of my students. But her will to live is anything but normal, as she talks about surviving in the filth of Auschwitz and risking her life to save that of her mother. The most gripping scene of the novel is when American forces mistakenly fire on her transport car as they are being shipped from Auschwitz juts days before liberation. Many of the young girls around her literally blown apart while she sits in horror. Somehow she manages to survive and move on in her life, and even return to German to confront her past many years later. She has truly lived a thousand years.
Must Read.......2007-05-30
We must never forget the Holocaust. There are many lessons learned in works about the Holocaust. This book is about a 13 year old girl fighting to survive in a concentration camp. Imagine your child being thrown out of school, can no longer keep your possessions. Not be allowed to talk even to a neighbor. Have little food, and then thrown into a nightmare beyond belief! Not to be a gloomy gus but I think we must learn from the holocaust. We never know what tomorrow may bring.
This book was heartbreaking.......2007-05-17
For some reason this book was harder for me to read than the others. I guess because it was written from the view point of a young girl. She even calls her mother -'mommy' throughout the book so at first I thought it might be relatively tame compared to the other accounts. Especially because the book was recommended for Young Adults. It was not! The things she describes seemed more horrific than the other books I've read. You dont want to believe this young girl would go through all she did and survive. Honestly who would want to? I went to bed dreaming about her story. It really makes all our problems seem so laughable and insignificant. And to think that -we- the human race did those things to one another is an unbearable truth to bear. It is another testament to faith and the Human will to survive.
Book Description
Parents record every milestone-from the first smile to the first day at school-in a child's baby book for posterity. Thanks to best-selling author Judith Levy, adoptive parents can now express their joy and love for a child in a baby book created especially for them. Our Chosen Child omits the traditional space for recording details about the pregnancy, labor, and delivery, highlighting instead the special preparations adoptive parents make and the excitement and anticipation they feel.In Our Chosen Child, adoptive parents can record family history and all the milestones of childhood through high school graduation. Additionally, Our Chosen Child includes the milestones that an adoptive family achieves. A page entitled "Waiting for You" acknowledges the many steps along the journey to becoming an adoptive family, such as completing a home study and getting references. On the page entitled "When We First Saw You" parents can capture the special moment when they first meet their intended child, whether as a newborn or as a five-year-old. The happy memories of the day the adoption is finalized are recorded on the "Adoption Day" page. Each page features original poetry by Judith Levy, such as this loving dedication: "You had a journey to make, A trip to come through, To parents who were praying, And waiting for you." Judy Pelikan's tender illustrations grace every page, making this book a beautiful keepsake. All adoptive parents will want to complete this treasury of memories for their own "chosen child."
Customer Reviews:
Great to have a baby book for adoption..........2007-03-09
I really like this book. Even though not everything pertains to my child, it is nice being able to have a place to put all of his "Firsts."
I don't mind that it focuses only on us, his adopted family. I have a special "LifeBook" which I created that tells him all about his birth family, including pictures and focuses on them. I think it is great for him to know that he has two families that love him! I also think that it separates everything so that it is not so overwhelming right now, while he is young.
If you want a great way to share your child's birthfamily information, I would highly recommend buying "LifeBooks Creating a Treasure for the Adopted Child" by Beth O'Malley, MEd. It is a great help in not only creating a LifeBook, but also gives you ideas on how to explain to your child difficult things about his/her adoption.
We returned this item.......2006-11-07
We found this way too 'cute-sy' for our taste.
We much preferred "This is Me", which allowed for much more flexibility, as it's a binder. And it was not so cute-sy.
A good Baby Book for Adoptions.......2006-07-03
I was placed with my son when he was 22 months old. While this book is geared more toward infant adoption (wanting a lot of firsts as a baby book does) I am using it for his firsts with us. I have also asked his prior placement if they can fill in the information I don't have. It has pages for a naming Ceremony (I just wrote about them name we chose and why) My favorite pages are the ones where youput pictures of "Others who love you" I would recommend this book to any adoptive mom/dad and you can alter as you need it.
Not what I'd hoped for..........2006-06-07
This book, while obviously well-intentioned, leaves too much unsaid in the life of a child who joins a family through adoption, in my opinion. There's no space for including the child's biological roots or specifics about their birth family, but only a vague "other people who love you" page, for example.
I didn't feel comfortable using it OR giving it as a gift, so it sits in a box. I'll create my own lifebooks.
Missing Critical Pieces for Adoptees.......2006-04-28
I have struggled over posting this review---so here goes. 50 year ago my parents gave me a baby adoption book called" The Chosen Child". It was sweet but never talked about having a birth family.
Here we are in 2006 and adopted kids are getting the same message with the latest " Our Chosen Child". Part of their history--their birth history/birth parents---gets written off. Not mentioned. Not discussed. Judy, wish you had done your homework.
On a more positive note--"Our Chosen Child" works very well for everyday life. Like a typical baby/child book. But not helpful for adopted kids and their families. Sorry. Beth O'Malley
Book Description
To fifty thousand readers, Catherine Newman is the beloved author of ÂBringing Up Ben & Birdy, a weekly column on babycenter.com. Now in the delightfully candid, outlandishly funny Waiting for Birdy, Newman charts the year she anticipated the birth of her second child while also coping with the realities of raising a toddler. As she navigates life with her existentially curious and heartbreakingly sweet three-year-old, and her doozy of a pregnancy, she lends her irresistibly unique voice to the secret thoughts and fears of parents everywhere. Filled with quirky warmth and razor-sharp wit, Waiting for Birdy captures the universal wonder, terror, humor, and tenderness of raising a family.
Customer Reviews:
A needed dose of perspective and humor.......2007-10-10
Waiting for Birdy has become one of my favorite books, and one I always pass along to new and expecting moms of second children. Her self-deprecating humor, love for her family and friends, and constant work to seek balance in her life are funny and life-affirming. Sometimes we feel like we are all alone when we have ambivalent or conflicting feelings about motherhood--Catherine feels like a warm, witty, wacky friend that shares those feelings with you.
Read this book like you eat a bar of Valrhona chocolate.......2007-10-05
Read this book like you eat a bar of Valrhona chocolate . . . a tiny bit a day, so you can savor the complex flavors of each bit more fully -- and make it last longer.
This book has humor and insight, but more than that, it reminds me of what is really important about parenting; reminds me to be mindful of the wonderfulness of it all, and not to let the worries and frustrations of the immediacy of parenting obscure the deep love and joy (and humor) of the body- and soul-changing job of being a parent. Like Catherine's columns, nearly every section in this book makes me laugh *and* cry and need to go kiss my little boy one more time before I go to sleep. One warning: it's tough to read if you're expecting; I'm not kidding about laughing AND crying, when you're already all hormonal and your husband already thinks you're crazy . . . (just make him read it too; he'll see!)
Made me a better mom.......2007-10-01
I was inspired to add to the many five star reviews when I read one that said, "This book won't make you a better parent, but it might help you to relax about being the parent you are." While I am sure this was intended to be a positive comment, I have to respectful disagree.
Reading Catherine's book and columns for years HAS made me a better parent. Specifically, she has a way of describing slowing down and paying attention to kids that really affected me. If my son wants to play Candyland, but by his own set of made up rules, why not? If he, well after the age that "the experts" think he should be independent, wants me to lay down with him for a few minutes while he falls asleep, I soak it up, because I know that the days that he will ask for me to cuddle are so limited.
Like Catherine, I do not advocate spoiling children, but I think that we need to pick our battles, say yes as much as possible, and ask ourselves if we are saying no for a good reason or just because OUR parents did not let us build forts with the living room couch cushions. Why not let them make the fort (better yet make it with them) and then teach them to clean up after themselves?
I love her book and her columns. She has made me a better, more patient, more creative, and more thoughtful parent.
If you don't like this book, you simply have no soul.......2007-09-29
This book is so great and funny, true-to-life and wonderfully written. No, it is not a directory on how to prepare your life for a second child, it is one woman gracefully sharing with us how she prepared her heart for her second child, and has helped SOOOOO many women know they are not alone in feeling scared, neurotic, weird, overcome with love, ready to pull their hair out, etc. I think it's very sad if you are unable to relate to the wonderful dance of parenting chronichled in "Waiting for Birdy."
Definitely a Top 5.......2007-09-28
I love this book! I loved Catherine's Babycenter columns, and was so delighted when there was so much laughter, honesty, and hysterical "I can totally relate to that" stories inside one book. We refer to Ben and Birdy in our house as if they live next door! Catherine keeps me sane by reminding me what's really important about motherhood.
As for the negative comments of a couple of readers--I feel sorry for people who don't get this kind of humor. Neurotic comes with the package when you give birth, and I always appreciate anyone who can admit it. Too many mamas spend too much energy trying to pretend that "everything is fine, life is perfect" when it feels much better just to embrace the craziness!

Customer Reviews:
My eyes thank MM for the break from pink and flowers.......2004-07-02
Somebody has finally assembled boy-themed scrapbook pages into a book. As a mom of two boys I can't tell you how many times I've wished that books about scrapping for kids didn't get dominated by so much darn pink! Oh well, now I have no excuse not to start my kids' own Growing Up Years albums.
All Boy Scrapbook Pages is from the Memory Makers folks who think of just about everything. The book is divided into themed sections to display examples of:
Introduction/Basics of how to scrapbook
Attitude (portrait/moments of the "macho" stuff)
Softer Side
Boy's Life (enthusiasms like sports and hobbies etc.)
Boys will be Boys (various antics)
Page title ideas
I was impressed with the clean, modern look of the pages. I noticed that a lot of color blocking was used, also much thoughtful journaling. It was a welcome change of pace from the floral- and accent-laden pages that (IMHO) we women seem to gravitate more naturally toward. The color choices were sometimes on the bold graphic side, other times muted, but very elegant and sophisticated overall. I think this collection is a good representation of the range of subjects and looks that are possible when dealing with boys' pages.
Each page included detailed instructions on how to recreate it. I was left with few questions and a lot of inspiration. My only nitpick: the pages were light on boys under the age of two and boys in the later teen years. I suppose that's what those baby books are for, but what about teenagers? I for one do not consider teens to be "grown ups" quite yet!
So, this is a must for parents of in-between toddler and teen boys as far as I'm concerned. Unreservedly recommended.
-Andrea, aka Merribelle

Fun Stuff!.......2007-07-28
This book is excellently written for girls who are entering puberty. It tackles tough topics in a way that girls can really connect with. It is right on with keeping God in the right place in the big picture.
I give it as a gift all the time.......2006-04-02
I wish I had a manual like this at that age! This is great for the preteen and teenage girl.
I would never give this book to a Christian teen!.......2005-02-08
This book advocates the very things that Christian parents should be teaching against. Dating, flirting, etc.
Very Good and Comprehensive.......2004-12-29
There's a sea of girl's books out there, and I'm determined to weed through each. Katie Meier's book has a long title, and surprisingly covers a lot - spirituality, body image, peer pressure, and more. Very similar to most non-fiction girl's books, Meier gives the advice in a big sister way. What separates this book from others? It actually goes into scripture and is not afraid to be frank about religion, as well. That in itself, unlike a lot of girl's non-fiction books which shy away from one of the most important aspect in a girl's life (their emotional and spiritual side), makes this book true to itself and 5 stars. Other girls books that do not shy away from being true - the Gifted Girls Series and the Gutsy Girls books.
A Girl's Guide To Life : The Real Dish on Growing Up, Being .......2004-07-30
This book is a must read for preteens and teen girls everywhere! IT is written in a fun to read style in the authors voice which makes it so easy to relate to and understand. Not only does this book offer a step by step guide through the tough questions from periods to boyfriends, it helps you through the silly and painful parts of being a girl in her teens. And,if you need answers to questions about ANYTHING you can't ask your mom or other friends about, the phone numbers and web sites are listed in the book. It's a great read, fun and entertaining at the same time. I wish I had a book like this when I was a teen!!!

Product Description
A Gen-Y, coming of age memoir about a family encountering and overcoming tragedy through the eyes of their precocious and witty 12-year-old daughter.
In a writing style somewhere between Harper Lee and Sarah Vowell, author Sarah E. Moffett recalls the time when, at age twelve, the life of her family suddenly began to unravel after a simple phone call from a dying family member.
What follows is a struggle to retain faith, hope, and love in the midst of inexplicable death and loss. Growing Up Moffett is written from a child s perspective, yet embraces the darkness that comes with the loss of innocence and the beginning of grasping death on an intimate level at an early age.
Customer Reviews:
Makes Me Wish I Could Grow Up Moffett.......2007-09-26
So, okay. Here's the deal. I made an enormous fool of myself, and it's entirely Sarah Moffett's fault. I brought this book to my son's medical appointments and read it while trapped in numerous waiting rooms. I actually made heads turn and drew the wrath of the receptionists.
What did I do? Well, first, I guffawed (All I'll say is it involves square dancing and a suitor sporting Underoos. ) Then, I shrieked. (What does she mean chocolate isn't her favorite food?) And finally, I wept. Loudly. It wasn't pretty. Nope, it wasn't pretty at all and it almost got me escorted out. It was, however, well worth it.
GROWING UP MOFFETT is funny, sweet, funny, tender, funny, absolutely heartbreaking, and did I say funny? My heart broke for this young girl and it cheered for the young woman she becomes. But more importantly I walked away thinking about what we do for those we love, and how it changes us all. So yes, it was definitely worth it.
I adored this book.......2007-07-26
I adored this book. From the first page through until the last, I was completely taken by the words I read. I laughed out loud several times (and earned strange looks from those around me) and I even cried. I couldn't put the book down, but I wanted to...only because I wanted the experience of reading it to last longer. Yep, that good.
The story is told from the perspective of a young girl growing up in a family filled with closeness, happiness and trust. It's full of anecdotes and humor, and at some point or other will remind most any reader of their own childhood. As Sarah, our trusty narrator, grows up, so too does the tone of the story. Everything changes one afternoon with a phone call--a phone call with news of a dying family member. Suddenly death becomes a prevelant part of Sarah's world...and we watch as her outlook on life changes. Through it all though, Sarah is witty and intelligent. You can't help but identify with her as she reminds you of parts of yourself that you had forgotten about.
I can't say enough good things about "Growing Up Moffett," you need to read it for yourself to see what I mean. Its one of the best coming of age memoirs I have read in...well, ever, and you'll adore it too.
witty and wise.......2007-05-10
Here's a remarkable first book by a recent college grad. Hope it isn't her last! Moffett is such a cool writer, makes this an entertaining and insightful read on some of the ecstasies and agonies of growing up in the 80's and 90's.
Precious.......2007-03-26
Don't you adore precocious twelve-year-olds? Their every word is so precious, so funny, so wise. Someone please tell Terry Gross about this book. It's perfect for her show.
Great Read!.......2007-03-25
Be ready to experience your childhood again! Through the eyes of a passionate, witty girl, you will recognize her challenges, successes, and losses. It's a well-balanced portrayal of the life of a young girl just trying to figure things out on her own. I loved this book, and would recommend it to everyone.
Book Description
veryone wants a green lawn, but how do you actually get one? Bags of fertilizer? Weed killer? Sod? What about mowing? Everyone knows how to, but do you really know when to? Fenway Park's master groundskeeper David Mellor does. He's been caring for some of the nicest lawns around for years. In The Lawn Bible, Mellor offers you everything you need to know about lawn care for your part of the country, including planting, mowing, feeding, and troubleshooting, as well as tips, illustrations, and anecdotes.
Customer Reviews:
Nicely written and informative - but no pictures.......2006-09-08
This is my first lawn book - bought to help me with my first lawn. I found it well written with plenty of helpful advice and guidance. D. Mellor stars the book by teaching you how to listen to your lawn - and figure out what it needs. He goes into detail about the different kinds of grass available, and which grow best in what locales. He discusses different aspects of mowing, watering, reseeding and renovating, and weeding. He also gives instructions at what he is most famous for, mowing with patterns.
However, I don't think a lawn book can be complete without pictures. How will I know that I need to treat a "plantain" infestation, if I don't know what "plantains" look like? How do I know what "Sulfur cinquefoil" looks like?
Pictures are worth a thousand words.
Educational - anecdotal - interesting.......2006-08-09
An intelligent book written by someone with lots of hands on experience in keeping major league baseball fields green. This experience he has transferred over to home lawns. I fully recommend this book to anyone who owns a lawn. Different from the other books, it stands alone with its insightfulness.
Not what I had hoped for.......2006-06-22
I wasn't very impressed with this book. I already have the Scotts lawn care book and loved that one. Since this book is by Fenway's greenskeeper, I expected even more detailed and in-depth advice. Instead this book covers the same basic topics in any lawn book with no extra helpful advice. In fact, in many cases the information was not as detailed as other books.
Several of the tips have nothing to do with being a home lawn owner. For example, one tip suggests using a certain enhancing chemical. When I looked up the chemical, it turned out it is only available to professionals and actually costs hundreds of dollars per gallon. How does that help me at home?? In another example tip given, a groundskeeper talks about re-soding after games. Again, I am not sure how that helps me know what to do at home.
I suggest buying the Scotts lawn care book instead of this one. That book is much more of a "bible" than this book is.
ok.......2005-09-11
I thought this book was going to be a better that what it was. It's pretty much the same book as the Scott's Lawn guide you can get at Home Depot, which is awesome I might add.
Save your c$sh, and get the Scott's Lawn guide book.
Good Grass !!.......2004-08-26
OK, OK. I'm talking lawn here. Excellent book to use as a reference for your lawn care.
