Fantastic textbook.......2007-09-01
I used this textbook for my AP (high school but college-level) Chemistry course, and found it to be delightfully clear and simple reading. Everything is explained to be perfectly understandable, and after simply reading the book through and doing the exercise problems (as assigned by my teacher), I found the actual AP exam to be literally one of the easiest tests I have ever taken in my life.
Actually, in fact, I barely paid any attention in class; I simply read this book and paid half-attention in class, and simply by reading this book throughly, I was one of the best students in the class.
It is clear why my teacher said she selected this book as the best she had seen.
The best........2007-05-23
I definitely love to learn, but it's always a pain when the book is poorly written, this is not the case with The Central Science by Theodore Brown. I thank you and your team for writing an awesome book that students can understand. I will definitely recommend this book, and I actually want to convince the chemistry dept. at my school to change their textbook ;) Simply the best, thanks!
edit: I have been reading many of the comments left by other users saying this book is not for beginners ... and it's true. I suggest you take the class seriously and read this book thoroughly and do all the red exercises, especially the additional and integrative exercises. If you can do these exercises, I promise you'll do fine.
Excellent textbook.......2007-01-17
I am currently taking an AP chemistry course in high school and this book is really great. It explains the topics in good detail, but sticks to the point and doesn't start talking about some other topic. The explanations are really thorough and they have some really good 3-D images that help you visualize molecules better (this is useful especially for molecular bonding). Another great feature of this book is the summary they give at the end of each chapter and the numerous sample problems with FULL EXPLANATIONS for each step you take. Unlike other chemistry books that are vague and confusing, this textbook is able to thoroughly explain subjects without all the confusing terms that you'll find in other chemistry books.
Excellent Text.......2006-07-06
I used this book in my General Chem I class a couple of years back and have since used it as a resource for my organic, biochem classes and MCAT review. The book was very easy to read compared to others and the examples were straight forward and easy to follow. The authors also attempted to include scientific/medical relevance to some of the issues covered. The most difficult chapter in the book to read is quantum theory; however, this topic is typically difficult for anyone to understand at first.
This book will be going to medical school with me this fall for sure.
Helpful.......2006-03-01
This book has been a big help to me as a reference source to fall back on. especially the CD that came with it. This book covers everything from thermo chemistry to organic chemistry. The website is somewhat insightful as well.

Great study tool.......2007-09-29
The actual textbook is a great reference and has detailed derivations. This study guide helps to clear up any inconsistencies between variables and concepts. The solved problems are a great help for homework and give a wholesome understanding of the material. I recommend buying this book.
Its decent.......2007-09-27
The textbook is pretty good. Nothing spectacular but its good. Each chapter has some interesting history facts about fluid mechanics. Most of the example problems are helpful.
Very Helpful!.......2007-09-16
Great to use along with the book. Very helpful in figuring out homework problems as well as studying for tests!
Big Joke.......2006-10-06
Beware! This book is no serious science book, it's no more than a paper-incarnation of a big poor joke..
Unfortunately, it's the textbook being used in my fluid dynamics class and I had to buy this one. But if you have a choice, pick "Fluid Mechanics, Third Edition (Hardcover) by Ira M. Cohen (Author), Pijush K. Kundu (Author)"! It is easily understandable and nice to read and covers all important concepts and equations in a reasonable form!!
In contrast, this book by Bruce R. Munson does not even derive the heart of fluid dynamics, the Navier Stokes equation in general (just a washed down version in one coordinate system, written in components), nor does it derive the Bernoulli equation in an appropriate way to emphasize the restrictions and applicability.. Also, almost every equation is given in components, not utilizing vector (or tensor) notation... This hides the beauty and natural look of the equations and makes it just worse to read..
Overall, this is a really bad book, stay away from it!
The most incomplete engineering book ever........2006-02-07
It's a good book it just askes me as a student to assume too much. Some of the problems at the end of the chapters are incomplete.
If i was to go about my life as a ME assuming random stuff i would get sued to a point of non-existance. This book does not teach good engineering practices.

GUZZZ
The book is so good you can teach yourself.......2005-11-06
This textbook is one of the best I've ever used. Incropera and DeWitt do a great job of explaining convection, conduction, and radiation. I have heard that the mass transfer portion of the book is lacking however, I am an ME major so its not an issue. The covering of conduction is especially good, it goes into great detail math wise although its well presented so you don't have to be a mathematical wizard to follow along. The book goes into a little bit of heat exchanger design, not very much but its a good introduction. If your instructor requires this book for your heat transfer class consider yourself very fortunate.
Heat Textbook.......2005-09-26
A good overall review of heat transfer. Helpfull in dusting off the cobwebs when looking at heat transfer after many years.
Excellent book (Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer), price, and quick shipment .......2005-07-19
Book came quickly, exactly as described, better than expected. Look forward to the next purchases.

From the SayHola dot com School.......2007-09-23
We have a school called SayHola dot com and we bought this book for our students because of the CD included but there are so many errors on the CD that we can not use it.
Spanish.......2007-09-07
This book came in handy while my daughter was having to write papers in spanish or translate from english to spanish or vice versa
A must-have.......2007-09-03
This book is a necessity for anyone learning Spanish. Conjugating verbs is one of the hardest things to learn. This book is very useful. It has translations and conjugations of verbs listed in alphabetical order. The beginning of the book has information and practice activities to help with verb conjugations. It also comes with a cd rom that has a couple activities to help you learn. They are not bad activities, but they are also not the best learning tool I have ever used. The book is well worth it though.

If you're a mechanical engineer, save your money.......2007-09-13
I purchased this, along with Lineburg's Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual for the PE Exam when I took my PE Exam. I cracked it open a few times while studying and once during the exam. I didn't find what I was looking for and I almost NEVER use it during my work. I am in the process field, pumps, pipe, etc. I use Lindeburg's manual at least twice a week. Skip this book and buy something more specific to your specialty. It's far to generic to be useful to me.
A Must Have for Engineers.......2007-08-20
This belongs on my desk. Katrina took my previous copy. I feel better having it within arms reach.
I loved this book.......2006-08-18
I think its very useful handbook. A must have for all fresh graduates.
Hardcover-CD?.......2005-09-27
IT seems this book is a CD for use of a Wireless Area Network (WAN), so how can it possibly be hardcover? And why is is three times more expensive than the normal edition, but still looks like it is the same 10th edition material on CD ONLY?
Overrated.......2005-09-12
"Mark's Handbook" is one of those books you hear other students in college talk about like it's a must have that you'll use for the rest of your life. But it's not. I bought this book, and six years out of college I barely ever crack it open. It's packed with information, but it's so general that you can't get any real-world specific information out of it. It's like a restaurant reviewer who can tell you that "New York has some great Italian restaurants" but doesn't give you the name of any of them. You're much better off skipping this book and buying one that's more specific to your particular field. As an example, the mechanical engineer is much better off with Shigley's "Mechanical Engineering Design".

Gets You Thinking.......2007-10-13
I enjoyed this book a lot. It is organized well and has lots of "icons" that make the reading interesting. I think it works so well because it is almost set up like a workbook and has you do a lot of writing exercises that attempt to get at the root cause of things.
It also emphasizes positive self-talk and discusses some common barriers to self-discipline. All-in-all, its well worth a good look. Also found The Sixty-Second Motivator helpful too.
Excellent and accurate advice!.......2007-10-02
This book covers all the most common problems related to procrastination and "lack of force of will" to do those things that we all want to accomplish but never have the time nor the energy to do so. It has a direct and clear approach to the "Hyde" effects, or, using other words, the hurdles that hinder the progress to reach our goals. It's specially important that you write down all the proposed exercises in order to achieve the full strenght of the book's advice. Don't let your old habits overtake you, this method works and can help you!
Utterly Enlightening.......2007-06-13
Below you will find the epiphany I recently had that prompted me to post this review. It is written as a stream of consciousness. Needless to say, I highly recommend this book.
ESCAPE
The theme of my life for the past few weeks. I keep trying to escape. Escape from what I ask? I automatically assume it means I'm unhappy, depressed? Is this feeling..this need to escape a symptom of depression? What other symptoms of depression do I possess? Procrastination. Surely this is a form of depression. I conquered this one a while ago but alas, it has returned. Procrastination + Escape is a bad combination. It is self-defeating which again is a symptom of depression. All this defeatist attitude...wait come to think of it, cynicism. I've been very cynical of late. Wow, these are barriers, barriers to self-discipline, just as it was written in 10 Days to Self-Discipline: Going From Thinking To Doing. So is self-discipline a symptom of depression, or rather, is my depression a symptom associated with having no discipline? I hope that it is the case of the latter, and moreover, I hope that the inverse of the latter holds true. If be this the case, then happiness here I come.
..oh and, thanks for reading.
It simply works..........2007-04-19
The book is a REALLY short read. The exercises are quick and simple and they just work... Yes, the book is simplistic and the concepts deceptively obvious. I think that is the beauty of it.
Like some of the other reviewers, I have purchased other books about getting past procrastination. What happened to those books? They are on my shelf because I either put off reading them all together or got bored and did not finish reading them.
I was highly skeptical about purchasing this book and I still don't think that the best results were within the "10 days" promised by the title. WHO CARES? You will likely see a change in your thinking and more productivity before you even finish reading the book! The more you apply the concepts, the better your results become.
Buy the book. It is worth the price. You simply have to keep an open mind, read the book, and actually do the exercises. The time and effort invested is amazingly small for the level of benefits derived. Now, the next step is yours...
Unexpectedly changed my attitude.......2007-04-12
This book helped me finally improve my self-discipline attitude. The next thing I knew, I found myself getting on the right track on defeating a nasty habit of mine. As one reviewer said, it's like having a psychologist right in front of you. You won't regret buying this book. It's worth the price.

"This Fox is a tricky fox. He'll try to get your tongue in trouble." Dr. Seuss gives fair warning to anyone brave enough to read along with the Fox in Socks, who likes to play tongue-twisting games with his friend Mr. Knox. "Here's an easy game to play. Here's an easy thing to say.... New socks. Two socks. Whose socks? Sue's socks." But Mr. Fox Socks isn't about to let Knox off so easy. Soon Goo-Goose is choosing to chew chewy gluey blue goo, while tweetle beetles battle with paddles in a puddle (in case you were wondering, that's called a "tweetle beetle puddle paddle battle"). Mr. Knox gets exasperated: "I can't blab such blibber blubber! My tongue isn't made of rubber." But he catches on to the game before it's all through. One of Seuss's best, this must-read-aloud classic is guaranteed to get many giggles out of readers young and old. (Ages 4 to 8) --Paul Hughes

Great book.......2007-10-07
This is a really fun book to read to your preschool / pre-k child. It's really enjoyable - both for the parent reading it (for the 10th time) and for the child listening to it. My child loves it. I often buy it as a gift for other children.
Graphic SF Reader.......2007-09-03
The Fox is certainly a better vulpine than I am, given that I couldn't stand running around with socks on my feet.
This incongruity is perhaps part of why I found this book highly amusing as a very young kid, so, a good fun production by Seuss.
Classic Seuss.......2007-07-04
The very same seuss poetry we read to our children 30 years ago, we are now reading to our grandchildren. Thank you Amazondotcom for your fantastic bargains!!!!!!!!!!
Not just for kids.......2007-05-31
As a community theater director, I was running out of tongue-twisters for the traditional vocal warmups when I remembered "Fox in Socks." I brought my dogeared copy down to the theater and ever since, it's been part of my standard backstage warmup repertoire. Even the most jaded actors light up in grins when I lead them through the Tweedle Beetle Battle.
seuss for all........2007-05-23
You can't go wrong with Dr. Seuss. His non-sensical rhyming inspires word play and imagination in my six year old son as it did for me when I was his age.
Book Description
At once an incredible adventure narrative and a penetrating biographical portrait, The River of Doubt is the true story of Theodore Roosevelt’s harrowing exploration of one of the most dangerous rivers on earth.
The River of Doubt—it is a black, uncharted tributary of the Amazon that snakes through one of the most treacherous jungles in the world. Indians armed with poison-tipped arrows haunt its shadows; piranhas glide through its waters; boulder-strewn rapids turn the river into a roiling cauldron.
After his humiliating election defeat in 1912, Roosevelt set his sights on the most punishing physical challenge he could find, the first descent of an unmapped, rapids-choked tributary of the Amazon. Together with his son Kermit and Brazil’s most famous explorer, Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon, Roosevelt accomplished a feat so great that many at the time refused to believe it. In the process, he changed the map of the western hemisphere forever.
Along the way, Roosevelt and his men faced an unbelievable series of hardships, losing their canoes and supplies to punishing whitewater rapids, and enduring starvation, Indian attack, disease, drowning, and a murder within their own ranks. Three men died, and Roosevelt was brought to the brink of suicide. The River of Doubt brings alive these extraordinary events in a powerful nonfiction narrative thriller that happens to feature one of the most famous Americans who ever lived.
From the soaring beauty of the Amazon rain forest to the darkest night of Theodore Roosevelt’s life, here is Candice Millard’s dazzling debut.

This book was great, if you like adventure, exploration, or teddy roosevelt this is the book for you.
not boaring at all this book is awsome
A Gripping Tale of Men of Character.......2007-09-21
Oh, for a President who had even one tenth of the character and integrity of the Teddy Roosevelt portrayed in this book. This is a real-life version of Conrad's Heart of Darkness, but the central figure never loses his sense of dedication and honor. Although there is plenty of suspense, even horror, in the story, I found it to be ultimately quite inspiring.
Awesome.......2007-09-20
This book went into so much detail about TR's expedition in Brazil that is hardly mentioned in other books on his life. And what a story it is! I heartily recommend it to anyone.
They Don't Make Presidents Like this Anymore..........2007-09-20
And that's not a statement of partisan politics, but it does say a lot about leadership. Volumes have been written about Theodore Roosevelt, the soldier, the statesman, the adventurer, and the president, but if there is a single book that captures the vitality, the determination, and the indomitable spirit of this great American, it is "The River of Doubt." Former National Geographic writer and editor Candice Miller pulls no punches and leaves no stone unturned in spinning this vibrant and suspense-packed tale of risk and discovery cutting through the heart of the Amazonian jungle on an uncharted Brazilian river. Miller brings the Amazon to life in all its bloody glory, an unfathomably dangerous place where even the frogs are deadly, where schools of piranhas can turn an ox - or a man - to a skeleton in minutes, a place where, despite caymans and poison dart-wielding natives, it is the insects - insects of all types and descriptions - that pose the greatest risk.
This is an epic journey facing not only the challenges of a wild river cascading over rapids and waterfalls through an impenetrable jungle, but also treachery and even murder. Roosevelt and expedition co-lead Candido Mariano da Silva Rondon, an officer of the Brazilian military and renowned Amazon explorer, find themselves surprisingly ill-equipped for their voyage through one of the planets most inhospitable regions, and ironically are soon near starvation in a green hell that while teaming with life, food is stubbornly unattainable. Meanwhile, it is a poignant tale of the bond between father and son, as Roosevelt and second son Kermit alternately sacrifice and suffer for each other while proudly denying emotion. This is one of those stories that, after weeks of terror, when Roosevelt and the tattered remains of his party emerge feverish from malaria and near starvation, you'll ask, "why haven't I heard about this before now."
Were this fiction, it would strain the bounds of credibility. But that this is the story of a former President of the United States is truly staggering. A remarkable achievement, "The River of Doubt" is a must read, illuminating a fascinating slice of world history in the twilight of the age of exploration while providing an intimate peak into the unparalleled character of Theodore Roosevelt. Bully!
Real-life adventure.......2007-09-20
River of Doubt is a cominbation of very interesting history and great adventure. This is the first book I have read about TR and as a result I plan to read more. Candice Millard does an outstanding job of presenting a grand adventure, while at the same time, letting you into the personal and interesting lives of the explorers. Ms. Millard has renewed my interest in historical books.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2007-09-10
Although not what I would call "easy reading" by any stretch of the imagination, this book was extremely detailed and broke down each DSM into smaller fragments. It was a great piece to add to my courses in MH DSM and went into much greater detail than my university textbooks! My professor at the time recommended a similar book which I managed to misplace. Fortunately this one was recommended to me and is even better.
Excellent in every regard and a must-have for any mental health practitioner.
First class resource on the little understood world of PD. .......2005-06-08
Theodore Milon's work on personality disorder's is a tour de force of the little understood world of "personality disorders in modern life."
This is an outstanding book, both as a text for the advanced master's level student, or as a stand-alone reference for the clinician looking to delve deeper into this mysterious world.
Dr. Milon cogently and meticulously dissects each disorder and provides case vignettes to aid the reader in grasping each entity for what it is, if that is possible.
Highly recommended. Encyclopedic in scope. Scholarly in its depth. 5+ stars.
An absolutely wonderful book on personality........2005-04-11
As an "advanced layman" interested in personality, I can fully endorse all that has been said by others about this book. It's not often that you find a book intended as a textbook that's....hard to put down, but this book certainly qualifies.
One rather missleading aspect of the title is its' implication that the book is only about the more pathological aspects of personality, and although the book is indeed organized along the lines of the DSM defined personality disorders, Millon makes an ongoing point within every section that the severity of each of the disorders exists along a continum, ranging from "normal" to "extream".
Those within the "normal" range on each disorder illustrate aspects of personality that are common to almost every one of us, and as such, the book provides equally comprehensive insights into normal aspects of personality as well.
If you are truely interested in personality in it's full range of variation, I would not allow yourself to be detered by the books' price. Millon is a stunning intelect, and I believe you will come away from this quite readable volume with the same enthusiastic response as others who have reviewed it.
Terrific Personality Textbook.......2005-03-30
For those looking for the perfect Masters level textbook on Personality this is the one. Throughout the entire book, the author frames the discussion from the various therapeutic perspective: cognitive, biologic, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and evolutionary-neurodevelopmental. They cover functional and structural domains and contrast each personality type with related personality structures. They also break each personality disorder and trait into variations. Their incorporation of personality trait with disorder would allow instructors of personality to incorporate the various testing within the personality disorder framework. The book is very weak on therapy strategies and techniques for each disorder, but that is not why one would want the book. A terrific textbook on personality disorder.
The encyclopedia of personality disorders.......2003-06-09
Authoritative, erudite, comprehensive and indispensable. It is by far the single best tome about personality disorders. It draws on the authors' rich clinical experience, panoramic acquaintance with schools of psychology, innovative taxonomy, and comparative ability. Though culturally-biased, it is still applicable to all societies and all times. Don't be deterred by the stiff price - it is worth every cent.
