Excellent Book to the Understanding of Abiding in Christ..........2007-02-11

Very well written and worthy of commendation. I recommend in for all, especially to those who are seeking, with hope, a trophy of God's dispensations in the diverse and many operations of this world about them, and in them.
There certainly is a refuge in the midst of the storms, who is Christ Jesus...but, sometimes, it is neddful to direct thy bow to face the storm, and to ride the waves right into the storm. It is there, that we may find an "eye" in the storm, with peace and tranquility our anchors and mainstay.

Start with this book.......2006-02-02

While there are several other books in this series, The Food Service Professional Guide To Series, that cover different areas of this book more thoroughly (for example, there are a few tips on how to reduce your beverage costs in this book, but Controlling Liquor, Wine, & Beverage Costs, by Elizabeth Godsmark, is flat-out exhaustive), this book is a great overview.

Often, you won't need to make extensive changes in your food service operation to maximize your profit. A few things go wrong --for instance certain menu items that just won't sell or problems with a vendor who's constantly sending bad produce--and your profits disappear. Or you're in the opposite situation: everything's going wrong, and you don't know where to start.

My advice would be to purchase this book first. The information here will, for the most part, give you a general idea of what you should be looking for in each area of your business. Each section contains valuable hints, but they're usually very basic ones--ones that if you aren't following, you really should be. If, after reading through the book and making sure you're following the general guidelines set out in each section, you find you're still not seeing the profitability you're looking for in any given area, take a look at the book of this series related to the topic. The other books that I've read in this series go over each area of each subject and pick apart the different areas where your restaurant can be improved for better profit and customer satisfaction--everything from employee fraud to what type of light bulbs you should consider.

If you already know where your problem areas are, you may want to go straight to the book for that area, but often one problem (like excess trim from meat) can be traced back to different areas (like employee relations), so it can be a good idea to have a general checklist to work from. If you're looking to improve your restaurant/food service business profits, this is a great place to get started.

Great Book! I Found These step-by-step guides easy-to-read, and easy to understand! The books are packed with information. They reminded me of "cliff Notes" from my college days.The information is comprehensive without the fluff you find in so many of the more expensive books out there on the subject. The books are also packed with resources such as phone numbers and the web sites of the companies they are discussing - there is no "theory" just great information.

It's up to you if you want to get a picture of the struggles of Hudson Taylor on several fronts. He had to hear from God himself to endure the pressures of his calling. "Back to Jersusalem" is a movement that has it's roots in Hudson's ministry.

Contemporary Value.......2003-01-31

An adventure story about an early unconventional missionary!!This is a great read aloud book for older elementary age children and up. Although the setting is middle 1800s, the lessons are timeless. A great way to teach your children the difficulties faced by early missionaries, (5 1/2 dangerous months at sea just to get to China) and their complete reliance upon God to surmount seemingly impossible challenges. Although Taylor's faith is great, even he is surprised by the continual rescues and provisions that are clearly God orchestrated. My children thought it started slowly, but got more exciting when he finally reached China! Even adults will enjoy listening. I highly recommend it.

This book is an excellent book to read. You are time and again, encouraged by answers to prayer in Hudson Taylor's life. He was one who gave up much in worldly things, yet gained an eternal weight of glory! I would definitely recommend this to all serious minded Christians.

Great Man's Story About God in His Life.......2002-10-30

Hudson Taylor's short autobiography ought to be required reading in any study of missions.

Catholic. Protestant. Evangelical. Charismatic. Everyone who is Christian and desires to serve God either through overseas missions, or in their own hometown will be inspiried to read of Taylor's humble heart and gracious service.

This could be considered a case study in prayer. Taylor did not send scores of appeal letters, newsletters, refridgerator photos. His practice was to not solicit funds, but to ask God for providence.

He endured blisters, lack of medicine, thievery, poverty on every level. He'd wait for months for resources, but the miracle of God was always there.

Written with ample selections from his personal journal, we gain insight to a man hailed as one of the greatest missionaries ever, and the foremost in China. That insight is not of a powerful speaker, dynamic personality, or shining star in the pulpit. Instead, we see an ordinary man, not so different than you or I, pressing on in faith, moving forward as God led him. God prevailed to supply him every need, though often in the last moment.

Beyond learning about Taylor, we also learn the intimate history of the founding of the China Inland Mission in 1856, and its influential growth in China. We gain a sense of the culture and interpersonal dynamics which existed in China, London, and mission leadership in general.

Because of the foundational evangelism by Taylor, China now boasts extraordinary amounts of believers despite China's present oppressive government.

I fully recommend "Hudson Taylor" by Hudson Taylor. See also the longer, two-volume Taylor biography by Howard Taylor.

Second most stirring book I have read........2000-10-30

I asked a respected leader in America, "What do you recommend I do, so my life would be spent having the greatest impact for helping people?" He told me to read the two volume book on Hudson Taylor by Dr. & Mrs. Howard Taylor. He was right. Wow, what a book--what a life!

This book has given me A LOT to think about and apply. I highly recommend this book to anybody who has a heart to serve people. Don't hesitate to read such a long book, it probably is better than the last five you read put together!

If you are in earnest about walking with God, you will love this book immensely. It will give you a hunger for excellence and a vision of the greatness of self denial. It will increase your love for God and you will find yourself wanting to travel the pathway of purity that Hudson Taylor lived. I can't recommend this book highly enough, it's probably one of the greatest books I've ever read. It inspired, lifted, and encouraged me greatly. It took my heart on a journey that I pray I never forget. This book has been out of print for many years, and to have these copies available is priceless. I refer back to my copy year after year and it continues to refresh and feed my soul in many ways. You will find a treasure and a friend in Hudson Taylor. Then you will gratefully appreciate the anointing that was on his son as he wrote down the account of his father's life. The benefits you reap as you travel through the pages of the this book will bless your life for years to come.

The life of faith proven.......2000-04-05

Hudson Taylor was the founder of the China Inland Mission. This book, part of Bethany's "Men of Faith" series, is his autobiography up to the founding of the CIM.

In this book, he shares his salvation, and how prayer had such a powerful influence in his conversion, how God led him to begin living by faith in preparation for work in China, and his training in the medical field.

He then shares about his first trip to China, and the way his mission let him down, especially in the areas of financial support and encouragement. The book also shares how he was led to dress in Chinese style clothes, much to the consternation of other foreign missionaries. However, this one step gave him more success in talking to the locals than the others had. Taylor also shares how he met up with the Scottish revivalist, William Burns, and their work together in China.

The book ends with Taylor back in England and God's leading him to found the CIM, a faith mission where all missionaries must trust God for their finances, with the first "recruits" already on their way.

This is an excellent little book, easily read, but very powerful in the demonstration of how God provides for His children. One of Taylor's mottos was, "God's work, done God's way, will never lack God's supply." It was something he and the CIM proved time and time again.

A wonderful treasure of holiness and love!.......2003-04-27

This book by J. Hudson Taylor is a good example of "great things coming in small packages." Although less than 100 pages, when read along with your Bible, UNION & COMMUNION really demonstrates God's redemptive love through Jesus Christ is present from Genesis to Revelation.

Faith/religion without love is nothing more than meaningless ritual. The SONG OF SONGS/SOLOMON really is the Holy of Holies in terms of the God's love for all of mankind. I highly recommend this book.

Refreshing read!.......2006-07-12

This book was powerful. It was well-written and captured the pioneering spirit of Hudson Taylor. I also appreciated how this autobiography captured firsthand the impressions that Dr. Taylor made on others. This book was truly inspiring - especially the sections where it chronicles Taylor's inner struggles of finding his joy and sufficiency in Christ, the many instances when God answered his prayers during times of his greatest need, and his devotion to his family.

I read this book and found it inspiring and helpful. I particularly found the secret that Hudson Taylor speaks of relevant to transforming and deepening immensely my own walk with God. Not only I, but years ago my father's life was dramatically changed as he was inspired to have faith in the God who took care of Hudson Taylor as a missionary in China. After reading this book my father was able to put confidence in the Lord to take care of him as he stepped out into full time Christian service. (Hudson Taylor relied on God to provide for all of his needs and would not tell others what his financial needs were. God was faithful to meet all of Taylor's needs as well as the missionary society he founded. But there is far more in this book than that).

If you are looking for a deeper, intimate walk with God then read this book. Or if you struggle with living faithfully, joyfully and consistently for the Lord then read this book. The spiritual transformation that occured to Hudson Taylor took place after years of service on the mission field. Many Christians, like Hudson Taylor did, will benefit to find the secret of that transformation. I did.

A book for missionaries, which indeed we all are for Christ. This is a thrilling true story of one man's relationship to our Lord and what his life becomes in service to Him. All those who have dedicated their lives to Christ can learn a lot about living out the faith and what God can do when you put your entire being into His loving hands. What this man, Hudson Taylor, does in China, we have assurance that God also wants to do in our lives even right where we are. A blessing for the indivual reader, and subsequently for those around, affected by the ministry inspired.
