The angry ranting of an obscure, small-party politician, the first volume of Mein Kampf was virtually ignored when it was originally published in 1925. Likewise the second volume, which appeared in 1926. The book details Hitler's childhood, the "betrayal" of Germany in World War I, the desire for revenge against France, the need for lebensraum for the German people, and the means by which the National Socialist party can gain power. It also includes Hitler's racist agenda and his glorification of the "Aryan" race. The few outside the Nazi party who read it dismissed it as nonsense, not believing that anyone could--or would--carry out its radical, terrorist programs. As Hitler and the Nazis gained power, first party members and then the general public were pressured to buy the book. By the time Hitler became chancellor of the Third Reich in 1933, the book stood atop the German bestseller lists. Had the book been taken seriously when it was first published, perhaps the 20th century would have been very different.
Beyond the anger, hatred, bigotry, and self-aggrandizing, Mein Kampf is saddled with tortured prose, meandering narrative, and tangled metaphors (one person was described as "a thorn in the eyes of venal officials"). That said, it is an incredibly important book. It is foolish to think that the Holocaust could not happen again, especially if World War II and its horrors are forgotten. As an Amazon.com reader has pointed out, "If you want to learn about why the Holocaust happened, you can't avoid reading the words of the man who was most responsible for it happening." Mein Kampf, therefore, must be read as a reminder that evil can all too easily grow. --Sunny Delaney
Book Description
In 1922, just four years after the war to end all wars, an unknown Austrian then living in Bavaria planned a pamphlet to be called Settling Accounts. In it he intended to attack the ineffectiveness of the dominant political parties in Germany which were opposed to the new National Socialists (Nazis). In November 1923, Adolf Hitler was jailed for the abortive Munich Beer Hall putsch along with men willing and able to assist him with his writing. With the help of these collaborators, chief among them Rudolf Hess, the pamphlet became a book. Settling Accounts became Mein Kampf, an unparalleled example of muddled economics and history, appalling bigotry, and an intense self-glorification of Adolf Hitler as the true founder and builder of the National Socialist movement. It was written in hate and it contained a blueprint for violent bloodshed. When Mein Kampf was published in 1925, it was a failure. In 1926 a second volume appeared - it was no more successful than the first. People either laughed at it or ignored it. They were wrong to do so. As Hitler's power increased, pressure was put on all party members to buy the book. Gradually this pressure was extended to all elements of the German population. Soon Mein Kampf was even being passed out to newlywed couples as a gift. Ironically, and frighteningly, by the time Hitler came to power on January 30, 1933, what has been considered by many to be the most satanic book ever written was running neck and neck with the Bible at the top of the German bestseller lists. In his excellent introduction to this definitive American translation of Mein Kampf, Konrad Heiden writes: "For years Mein Kampf stood as proof of the blindness and complacency of the world. For in its pages Hitler announced -- long before he came to power -- a program of blood and terror in a self-revelation of such overwhelming frankness that few among its readers had the courage to believe it ... That such a man could go so far toward realizing his ambitions, and -- above all -- could find millions of willing tools and helpers; that is a phenomenon the world will ponder for centuries to come." We would be wrong in thinking that such a program, such a man, and such appalling consequences could not reappear in our world of the present. We cannot permit our selves the luxury of forgetting the tragedy of World War II or the man who, more than any other, fostered it. Mein Kampf must be read and constantly remembered as a specimen of evil demagoguery that people whenever men grow tired of thinking and acting for themselves. Mein Kampf is a blueprint for the age of chaos. It transcends in historical importance any other book of the present generation. In his translation Ralph Manheim has taken particular care to give an exact English equivalent of Hitler's highly individual, and often awkward style, including his occasional grammatical errors. We believe this book should stand as the complete, final, and definitive English version of Hitler's own story of his life, his political philosophy, and his thwarted plans for world domination. Translated by Ralph Manheim with an introduction by Konrad Heiden. A compilation of Hitler's most famous prison writings of 1923--the bible of National Socialism and the blueprint for the Third Reich.

The Seeds of Hatred.......2007-09-24
First of all I'd like to say that yes I read this book and as a person of Jewish descent, struggled through it, not so much for its hatred but its lack of "literary merit" to say the least, yet I think that it is a neccessary read for everyone, even in these times. However, as a person with mental illness, I find it too easy to label it "the ravings of a lunatic". If it was people would have ignored it (unlike "The Triumph of the Will" which is morally despicable but a work of cinematic brilliance). It was a (however poorly written) blueprint for what was to come later (though it toned down the extremity that the third reich would become). Firstly, Hitler was a careful strategist and worked with other hateful idealogues (such as Goebbels and Himmler and the like) to promote his viewpoints. However, the main reason he was such a "success story" was that the country at the time was in economic chaos and the climate of hatred was there, waiting for someone to take advantage of it, so sooner or later, someone would have filled his shoes and the poplulace (see the film "Shoah" for proof of this) not only went along with what he said, they were willing accomplices (as were other countries throughout Europe such as Austria or a large part of France or even Stalin-a despot on his own-had Hitler not betrayed the non aggression pact)as "The Sorrow and the Pity" may attest. But with reviewers who find "The Turner Diaries" to be "brilliant" and a certain "inspirational" Mel Gibson movie to be proof that "Jews control the media" (direct quotes) it shows that there are people like that even now and as for a climate of hatred and intolerance, I'd say that we are in the middle of that right now (on all sides). Read "Mein Kampf" and see the dvd of "It Happenned Here" (about a fictional third reich taking power again) and realize, that this work of hatred, is something still to be feared, not religated to the past.
You will be shocked how logical and appealing Hitler's argument is........2007-09-24
First, a disclaimer: I do not advocate or support Hitler's ideas, but I recommend this book because so much of the world currently thinks this way and applies this philosophy or similar to issues of economy, immigration, international relations, and even their daily business and community lives. Because Mein Kampf reflects the mindset of so many, from leaders such as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (President of Iran) down to the common American factory worker, it's important to realize that these ideas--as any really--are as dangerous as they are logical.
Is this an evil book? No. We have several maniacs publishing books, sitting in places of political power, and with loyal followings on political talk shows whose ideas are as or more threatening to world order if they were allowed to reign. And since you should understand those competing ideas for what they are, I recommend reading the father of them all--Mein Kampf.
The most shocking thing about reading this book is that Hitler offers a very logical and appealing argument: that foreigners (the Jews in his time, but perhaps we could substitute the Chinese or Mexicans in ours, or we Americans if you are from Europe or the Middle East, or 'White' Afrikans in 'Black' Africa) are a threat to our wealth and welfare, the health of our society, that they are slowing taking over economically, that it's only a matter of time before they are a ruling, wealthy minority which will subjegate our culture and people--and that they must be stopped.
After all, this has happened in other countries--you're bound to think--and isn't it happening today? Wouldn't we be right to protect our interests against this imminent threat? Of course, the answer is to irradicate them, seize their assets, erase all traces of their culture. At the very least, doesn't Mein Kampf match very well with the idea of closing United States borders to all immigration, and deporting those who are not already citizens? Hitler himself argues the point far better than any politician today--and boldly.
Hitler does not come off as insane or evil. He's preaching to the chior in his time and place, and it's not much of a stretch to say that this same argument would be very effective today.
It's scary how convincing this book is, and that's exactly why you should read it. Even if you, as I, may not agree with how he incorporated his political philosophy, it's a wake up call to read something by the individual who personified evil for nearly all of us and yet find that his ideas are considerably well thought out.
Excellent night time reading.......2007-09-10
Want to know what went on in the mind of one of the worlds most famous tirants? Then go ask him. Oh no you cant, so read this instead.
Its well written and shows a seriously twisted mind, and acts as a warning to what a twisted mind can achieve given the right circumstances and motivation.
Dont buy this if you expect a cheap jew-bashing novel, but do buy this if you think you can handle a well built up argument as to exactly why Hitler believed what he did.
Down & Out in Bavaria Hills.......2007-09-03
Achtung, Baby!
Mein Kampf has a nasty reputation. When it comes right down to it, Mein Kampf is a bad dog, a bad, bad dawg. If Mein Kampf were human, it would be the balding forty-year old guy with the canting glass eye who loiters down by the stairwell selling tap-dancing aphids out of a hat.
But if you step back, take a deep breath, get the mental picture of grim soot blackened kilns and miles of concertina fence and razor wire and baying German shepherds and slaughterhouses & black-smoke belching smokestacks festering and brooding beneath a slate-grey sky---
Where were we? Oh yes: if you get past that stuff, you'll be able to see Mein Kampf for what it really is: the world's most influential Self-Help manual.
Who needs Dale Carnegie & all that "Smile 'til your Gums Bleed!" crap when you've got Adolf Hitler: Carnegie wants you to wag your tail & get another friend, Hitler wants you to wag your fist in your enemy's face & slice off another rump puppet state.
Let's take a little mental inventory of Adolf Hitler, circa 1923: starving, failed artist, no money to pay the rent, wandered around ranting and drinking all day in beerhalls, and worst of all, stuck in the Munich pokey after he and the boys got knocked around by the local hoo-haw after a wild night gomezing around on the town and a few too many Heffeweisen.
And yet this guy, not even a decade later, is not only shooting hoops and slam dunks but kicking everybody's [EXPLETIVE!] around the court. Around about 1941, Hitler doesn't have any time left to kick [EXPLETIVE!] & take names. Why? Because he's too busy kicking [NAUGHTY!] to take names.
With that in mind, let's break this little masterwork of Teutonic Take-no-Prisoners Motivation down by the numbers & see what Mein Kampf can do for you---today!
1) Give in to your Anger! Your Hate will make you Strong! Whether it's building a battle station that can destroy a planet in a single blast or emptying the Eastern Marches of Bolshevik Scum, get in touch with your Inner Monster & give that bad boy a ticket to ride!
2) It's all about Marketing! Coco Chanel knew it! Tommy Hilfiger knew it! Idi Amin knew it!---Marketing Matters! Hitler proved it. Schwag matters. Gift boxes matter! Little corporate doohickeys with your logo & slogan on it---all of that matters.
WWHD?---'What would Hitler Do?' He'd make it colorful! Primary colors, baby, lots of red and black and white! He'd add chrome! He'd come up with a catchy slogan. He'd probably have a military march with torches somewhere in there! He'd invade Poland!
3) Mission Statement: KISS goes here ("Keep it SS"): make it brutally simple. Example: a) Revenge the betrayed fatherland by shooting the Bolshevik rotters; b) hold lots of torchlit parades; c) invade Russia.
Show me, don't tell me. It's results that count, daddy-o. See #3.
3) Business is War! Get in the other guy's face & scream! Make him wipe your spittle off his mouth! Yes! Go over the line! Pound on the table all you want to, but if you don't get what you want, it's time to cross the enemy's line of Death! No more Mr. Nice Guy!
Your Enemies are a bunch of Fairies! They shave their legs & go cycling after work. Think I'm wrong? Think Carstairs in Accounting has the mojo to take you on, Dear Leader? Try nailing his cat to his desk. Your patience is at an end! Exactly! Would you like a little Belgium or France with your order, Sir?
4)Shoot your rivals. What about Carruthers, the guy from Marketing? Seriously, Old Hoss, keep an eye on that guy. He's quiet, he's shifty eyed, he does what you tell him, and when you screamed at him in that P&L meeting last week he---I jest thee not---he wet himself. That said, remember: it's the quiet ones who get ya, one way or another. Hitler, for instance. Hitler was a frustrated Marketing guy, too.
It's kinda funny to think about, but had someone back on the old arts school admissions council at the Vienna School for Drawing Little Teutonic stick figures decided to let Hitler in, we'd have gotten about 15 years of bad cubist stuff instead of the Blitz & the Holocaust.
5) Strike first! Strike hard! Kill! Kill! Pick yourself up out of the gutter and get back on that Tiger tank! You think it's enough to humiliate Dimwiddy in the board room, you lunk? Fool! You've got to destroy Dimwiddy! You've got to crush him, annex his office space, invade and destroy all those little projects that mean so much to him, get him fired, laugh as he has to haul all his personal shxt out in a cardboard box---and even then it's not over! You've got to gloat, gloat and cackle, when you spot him on the street corner, down in the gutter, eating his daily ration of cat food out of a tin! Shove his face in that horsemeat! Push!
6) Never Underestimate the Stupidity of the Masses: This is a biggie. Think about it: you're German, it's 1930, and one of the candidates for Reichs Chancellor has a shifty looking brush moustache. When asked about his resume, he replies nonchalantly about being big on killing vermin.
Would you vote for that guy? Guess what? They did! Hitler won in a landslide! If he can, you can too!
With that in mind, ACHTUNG! Baby! We got a little Liebensrauming to do.

The Hobo Philosopher.......2007-08-30
I read this book for its political, intellectual, and philosophical content and not its anti-Semitism and vitriol. This book should be studied in every political discussion group or government class in America. Everything that confronts us today in our political debate is and was debated in this book; religion and politics, the individual and the state, social diseases, teenage pregnancy, democracy vs socialism or communism, ethnic cleansing, aggressive war, the right to torture, freedom of speech, the right to organize, unionism, the free market, globalization, internationalism, capitalism, Central banking, the right to unlimited profits, obligation of citizens to state and state to citizens, leadership, organization, advertising, propaganda, private property, entrepreneurship, the news media, the stock market, banking, patriotism, treason, God, science, world peace, imperialism, education, military industrial complex - you name it and it is discussed in this work and Adolf's answer is given on every subject matter.
This book intrigued me so much and so boggled and confused my mind that I decided to write my own page by page analysis. I have been serializing this analysis on my blog - the hobo philosopher. My copy of Mein Kampf is over 1000 pages. I have finished analyzing book one which is only 500 pages and my analysis is over 800 pages. Needless to say reading Mein Kampf has been quite and educating experience for me. You should try it.

Hitler's Second Book is the first complete and annotated edition of the manuscript Hitler dictated shortly before his rise to power four year after publishing
Mein Kampf. It contains a catalog of shocking policy statements and previously undisclosed plans of world conquest at the core of Nazi ideology that Hitler concluded were too provoca-tive for publication.

Hitler's Second Book.......2007-08-09
I ordered this book due to my father was in the Second World War. So i wanted to get a look in to the head of the man that started it all. This book is an eye opener. It shows that Hitler was a very very intelligent person but as we all know there is a fine line between genius and insanity. And he tipped the scale on the insanity side. This book is very good if you are like me and just want to see what makes Hitler tic. I am glad i ordered it.
Hitler's Madness, Focused on the USA.......2007-07-21
Zweites Buch, or, "Second Book", was originally a transcript of Adolf Hitler's unfiltered thoughts on a number of topics. This sequel to "Mein Kampf" went unpublished during his infamous lifetime. "Hitler's Second Book: The Unpublished Sequel to Mein Kampf" is annotated with great care by Weinberg and Smith and provides numerous context clues throughout. It remains the authoritative English translation.
This "Mein Kampf Part II", which focuses more on foreign policy, expands on the dictated original and goes so far as to suggest that around 1980, a final struggle would take place for world domination between the United States and the combined forces of Greater Germany and the British Empire. Most reader have not been previously privy to this information until now because either (1) The Führer deemed it to tip his strategic hand or (2) Mein Kampf v2.0 was not flying off the shelves and his publisher felt another book would further squash sales. Opinions differ.
Hitler attacks friend and foe alike for their goal of restoring Germany to its pre-1914 position. In Hitler's view, merely overthrowing the Treaty of Versailles and restoring Germany to its pre-1914 borders was unacceptable as in Hitler's opinion the Versailles Treaty was only a lesser problem.
Hitler here states for the first time that his belief that Germany's real problem was the lack of sufficient Lebensraum ("Living space") for the German people. In Hitler's view, only states with large amounts of Lebensraum were successful. In Zweites Buch, Hitler announced that overthrowing the "shackles" of Versailles would be only the first step in a Nazi foreign policy, whose ultimate objective was to obtain the desired Lebensraum in the territory of Russia.
In Mein Kampf, Hitler declared that Germany's most dangerous opponent on the international scene was the Soviet Union. In this second book, Hitler declared that for immediate purposes, the Soviet Union was still the most dangerous opponent, but that in the long-term, the most dangerous potential opponent was the United States. Hitler's views on the United States changed dramatically between 1924 and 1928 due in small measure to the Immigration act and other US policies such as eugenics and segregation.
This is a key historical document from perhaps the most evil man to walk the earth. Ultimately though, it suffers the same pitfalls as "Mein Kampf" in that it is a collection of disjointed ramblings straight from the mind of a madman. Still, enough here of historical import to recommend for fanciers of history and World War II. Note: the 1962 version is a hack job, steer clear if you ever stumble upon it. A lack of editorial caretaking bumps this book down a notch in my final rating.
The Fuhrer-to-Be and His Planned Aggression against Jews and Slavs.......2007-05-15
This book, undoubtedly authentic (p. xiv) but never published until after WWII, sheds further insights into Hitler's warped thinking, expanding upon some of the themes of his MEIN KAMPF. It was first published in the English language in 1961 under the title of HITLER'S SECRET BOOK.
National Socialism had undoubtedly been an actual form of socialism, as reiterated by Hitler: "I am a socialist. I see before me no class or rank, but rather a community of people who are connected by blood, united by language, and subject to the same collective fate." (p. 48). "From this work [the National Socialist movement] a new body politic must come into being, which must also overcome the most serious disadvantage of the present, the division between the classes, for which the bourgeoisie and Marxism are equally culpable." (p. 87).
Interestingly, Hitler toyed with the possible future of Communism, and this turned out to be prophetic: "Indeed, it would be conceivable that in Russia itself an inner change could occur within the Bolshevik world, such that the Jewish element could be displaced by a more or less Russian nationalist element." (p. 145). To a degree, this later happened. Jewish Communists were expelled from their Parties for their "cosmopolitanism" and "Zionism".
We sometimes hear the claim that the German people voted for Hitler, in free elections, without realizing the fact that he would start a major war. Or, at worst, Hitler would be content with a little border war to rectify the "injustices" of Versailles. In fact, long before he came to power, Hitler said, in a speech on May 2, 1928: "We National Socialists take the view that all German foreign policy must steer clear of the ludicrous idea that the fate of Germany can be better shaped through so-called border corrections in terms of the 1914 borders. That does not matter to Germany at all anymore. The borders of 1914 in no way satisfy our living requirements." (p. 256). In terms of specifics, the Fuhrer-to-be planned a war of massive conquest and extermination against the Slavic peoples, as indicated by his following statements regarding lebensraum (in addition to those earlier in MEIN KAMPF): "An additional 500,000 square kilometers of land in Europe can provide millions of German farmers with new homesteads...The only area in Europe that could be considered for such a territorial policy was Russia." (p. 80; see also page 158). (Later, the Nazis spoke of "resettlement" of Jews and Slavs. In time, "resettlement" evolved into a euphemism for extermination.)
Proponents of Holocaust uniqueness sometimes claim that, whereas there was nothing that Jews could do to change their standing in the eyes of the Nazis, Poles could redeem themselves by undergoing Germanization. This is fallacious, as Hitler made obvious (as he had done earlier in MEIN KAMPF): "The National Socialist movement...knows no Germanization, as the national bourgeoisie does, but only the expansion of our own people. The movement will never see subjugated, so-called Germanized, Czechs or Poles as a strengthening of the nation or of the people; rather this represents a racial weakening of our people." (p. 49). "The ethnic state, in contrast, could under absolutely no circumstances annex Poles with the intention of turning them into Germans one day. It would instead have to decide either to isolate these alien racial elements in order to prevent the repeated contamination of one's own people's blood, or it would have to immediately remove them entirely, transferring the land and territory that thus became free to members of one's own ethnic community." (p. 53). (During the later German occupation of Poland, the "Germanization" of selected Poles was actually a re-Germanization of ethnic Germans who had previously become Polonized.)
Hitler's virulent anti-Semitism had a somewhat different emphasis in this book than it had in MEIN KAMPF. In the latter, he spoke of Jews as parasites that live off the hard-earned wealth of other peoples. In this work, Hitler portrayed Jews as intentional destroyers of the nations' intellectual elites, either through direct extermination (as in Bolshevism) or through indirect means (notably the bastardization of the races, as done in western nations)(p. 114; 231-234); all ostensibly done by the Jews in order to have unfettered rule over the masses.
But Jews weren't the only scapegoats. Hitler also had grandiose views of the Poles' great power and malevolence. He fantasized that the Poles had killed 17,000 Germans during the Silesian Uprisings (pp. 206-207). [Weinberg (p. 282) points out that the actual death toll was hundreds of Germans and Poles each]. Hitler also painted the 1928 destruction of Bismarck's statue in the city of Bydgoszcz (Bromberg), by Poles, as part of the systematic destruction of German culture (p. 206). In actuality, numerous hallmarks of German culture were spared in Poland, as indeed they are to this very day. And, considering the brutal anti-Polish and anti-Catholic character of Bismarck's policies in Prussian-occupied western Poland (as exemplified by the kulturkampf, one of the first-recorded instances of culture war), it is a wonder that the Poles had waited ten years (after their acquisition of independence) to tear it down!
For evil to succeed ,the good need only to do nothing........2007-02-23
First of all,I also was surprised to see this book, wondered if it was legit, and like other reviewers hadn't come across it before. There are several excellent reviews already posted and I only regret that I had not read them all carefully before I read the book.I had many of the same thoughts ,and how others viewed many things, were likewise concerns of mine.
As I was reading the book,I was surprised at the extent of Hitler's thoughts about the way things were in Germany at the end of WWI. He wrote this book in 1928, shortly after having written "Mein Kampf".It is hard to believe he was only an insignificent Corporal in WWI,dismissed as a firebrand and even jailed .His writings are unbelievably clear, whether you believe his assessment of the issues or his solutions.
If you want to know where the roots of WWII originated, why "The War To End All Wars" led to WWII only 11 years later, what were Hitler's concerns and intentions, what the German people bought into, why the rest of Eorope did nothing about it, and why he gained such power and arguably had the greatest impact on the world of any individual in the 20th Century;you will find the answer in this book.
Some might wonder why one should waste their time reading about a megalomaniac, who we all now know was so evil, and caused such death and destruction;and at this time nearly 80 years after it was written. The reason is the same now as it was then, and the same as it has been throughout history. One of Hitler's greatest despises was the concept of Democracy ,and the fact that weaker elements had a say in their society and that there could be any place for belief systems of a higher order than man;particularly when the people turn over their liberty and freedom, willingly or otherwise, to a dictator. The adage of "Power corrupts;total power corrupts totally" has always proved to be correct.
As we look at situations around the world today,we once again see "The Seeds of Destruction" germinating, and at the same time socities who are at risk ,are playing the same games of appeasement, looking the other way, refusal to work together to confront evil, placing self interest and politics ahead of justice and understanding, and all those same things happening ,that were taking place during the decades before WWII.
One reviewer suggested this book should be put on school curriculums. I agree, but that is not likely to happen;"someone might get offended" .That kind of thinking is all Evil needs to proceed.Don't expect the enlighted establishment to do what is right. It didn't happen in Europe in the 1920's and is not happening now. I am glad I found this book and read it,and I believe anyone who values their liberty and freedom will find it enlightning.
Hitler, An Understanding Of A Mechanical Mind.......2006-11-01
No doubt this will offer the reader retrospective insight deep into the mechanical mind of Hitler. Easily set aside from Mein Kampf and ramblings, this volume should be standard reading in all military science curriculum.
What is most concerning is not Hitler's perversions. Rather, it was his ability to consume and control a nation of people; possibly the greatest salesman of the 20th century.

A glimpse into Hitler's mind.......2007-06-10
This is a interesting yet tough read. It was fascinating to see how Hitler saw the world, its problems and himself. As he laid out the problems his insights were sometimes deep, lucid and fact-filled (though not always for he was a master of leaving out all the facts and twisting them to suit his needs) and then he would mention the word "Jew" and the rest of the chapter would be full of venom filled hatred with attacks, insinuations and claims that were way beyond reality! Then he would close with his solutions to the items covered in the chapter and this was sometimes very in-depth, always interesting and sometimes put in general terms that you wonder if he knew what he was going to do, or if he was just hiding it from the masses at the time. The chapters are long, so if you read this, give yourself time for each chapter. Much of what Hitler decided to do when he was later in power are indeed covered in this book. Some plans he did not follow, such as never fighting a two front war and his thoughts that Germany could be allied with England in the next war. Mein Kampf is a fascinating look into the mind of Adolf Hitler. But, be prepared, for while it is fascinating and a must read for those who wish to know more about Hitler it is a tough and at times tedious read because of his writing style and his rants about the Jewish, the Slavs and others he desired a "sub-humans". If you want a glimpse into the mind of this insane, power hungry, ruthless dictator then read this book. But, give yourself time!
Diary of a Mad Man.......2007-03-25
I can just simply say that this is the diary of a mad man. Any rational person needs to read this book to understand what state of mind Hitler was in before he completely lost his sense of reality. It should show us to never again allow someone with these views to be allowed in public office or in our military!

Book Description
This unique linguistic analysis of Adolf Hitler's Mein Kampf examines how Hitler constructed Feindbilder (images of the enemy) and, in contrast, glorified the so-called Aryan race using a variety of lexical and rhetorical resources. Hitler's anti-Semitic imagery is analyzed in detail using the modern cognitive theory of metaphor associated with George Lakoff and Mark Turner. This book, which includes English translations for all quotations from Hitler's German text, reveals how anti-Semitic discourse may act as a paradigm for all racist and totalitarian propaganda. It will appeal to linguistics scholars and those in other fieldsparticularly historians and political theorists.

People read too much into this........2006-10-08
According to the Preface, this book was not written for the purpose to make friends or influence people. The design from conception is to chronicle a movement, not create one.
As a whole one can have an opinion as to the results of the book. However with out reading it the opinion has no chance to be informed. Another flaw with not reading this work is that you are relying on others opinions and inferences. Taking most of the statements and conclusions from this book and displaying them separately you would be surprised as to how many you would agree with.
Just a sample of what is on the inside:
"I know people who `read' enormously, Book for book, letter for letter, yet whom I would not describe as `well-read.' True they possess a mass of `knowledge,' but their brain is unable to organize and register the material they have taken in... For reading is no end in itself, but a means to an end."
These are not platitudes but examples of observations of the time, which you can see are timeless.
Once in a while the reading may seem redundant but it is the nature of writing for the time and place. So again this book is a must read. I have no preference as to translation.

"Words of Wisdom" From the Best-Known German Supremacist.......2007-05-01
Perusal of this vile classic allows one to clear up many misconceptions about Nazism. For instance, we sometimes hear that the German people came to support Hitler without ever understanding his positions. MEIN KAMPF lays this notion soundly to rest!
Some commentators doubt if National Socialism had actually been a form of socialism. It is therefore instructive that Hitler supported trade unions (pp. 874-876), and that the annotators of MEIN KAMPF recognized the fact that the Nazi economy had been a Planswirtschaft (planned economy; p. 880).
Traditional Christian theology, about Jews and deicide, is often blamed for the Holocaust. We learn instead that Hitler's pathological hatred of Jews had NOTHING to do with Christian theology. In fact, the only time that Hitler even touched on this issue was when he asserted that Jews crucified Christ for having opposed their commercialization of the Temple (p. 423). Indeed, Hitler saw Jews as a parasitic element that takes the hard-earned wealth of others. They did this through such things as becoming intermediaries in trade, and through usury (pp. 419-on). When the masses rebel against this exploitation (as through pogroms), the Jews ingratiate themselves to the rulers for protection. No matter how many times they are persecuted, Jews will always return to their ingrained exploitative ways (p. 427). Furthermore, Jews will, according to Hitler, resort to all forms of mendacity and slander in order to protect their privileged, exploitative positions. Such things as Jewish assimilation, philanthropy, and conversions to Christianity are nothing but disguises to further Jewish ends. Hitler was unfazed by the fact that the PROTOCOLS OF THE ELDERS OF ZION were inauthentic. To him, the Jewish reaction against this publication was itself proof of its authenticity (p. 424). Finally, whether themselves authentic or not, the PROTOCOLS were supposed to constitute a valid appraisal of Jewish attitudes and goals.
Hitler unambiguously believed that only Germanic peoples invent things (pp. 397-398). The creativity of a society is directly proportional to the Germanic content of its stock and inversely proportional to the degree of "bastardization" with inferior races. The Fuhrer made countless racist statements against Slavs. Hitler repeatedly lamented the fact that the admixture of Jews and Slavs had polluted the Germanic element of his native Austria (e. g., pp. 138-140). The Fuhrer also contended that Slavs have no capability of self-government--their rulers must all be of Germanic origin (p. 951). Hitler was no white supremacist; he was a German supremacist par excellence!
Proponents of Holocaust uniqueness sometimes claim that, whereas there was nothing that Jews could do to change their standing in the eyes of the Nazis, Poles could redeem themselves by undergoing Germanization. This is fallacious. Hitler said, "Here too one believed that one could bring about a Germanization of the Polish element by a purely linguistic integration into the German nationality. Here too the result would have been an unfortunate one: people of an alien race, expressing its alien thoughts in the German language, compromising the height and the dignity of our own nationality by its own inferiority." (p. 590). (During the later German occupation of Poland, the "Germanization" of selected Poles was actually a re-Germanization of ethnic Germans who had previously become Polonized.)
We sometimes hear the claim that the German people voted for Hitler, in free elections, without realizing the fact that he would start a major war. Perhaps, some say, Hitler would be, at worst, content with a little war to rectify the "injustices" of Versailles. In actuality, there is much more to MEIN KAMPF than the customary German self-pity regarding WWI and Versailles. Clear proof that the Fuhrer had long planned a war of massive conquest and extermination, against the Slavic peoples, is provided by his following statements regarding lebensraum: "Neither eastern nor western orientation should be the future goal of our foreign policy, but an eastern policy signifying the acquisition of the necessary soil for our German people." (pp. 965-966). (Later, the Nazis spoke of "resettlement" of Jews and Slavs. In time, "resettlement" evolved into a euphemism for extermination.)
hitlers book.......2006-09-25
i chose to recomend this book as it the only book about nazism that tells the truth.one thing i hate about books about hitler, nazi germany and ww2 is they are so mixed up between fact and fiction,it gets annoying trying to seperate the facts ftom all the bs.you will get only truths here.another thing i hate is lazy movie directors, producers and writers who always cop out on making a decent bad guy and use the old fallback of "i know!we will make him racist!"you will find none of that here either.just a mans view on a country he loved so much that he wrote it all down.before you write this book off as racist propaganda without reading it,remember who hitlers 2 friends were in ww2.italy run by a man who was half black and a japanese leader.if you want the truth read this book.if you want bs,get any other book on ww2 and read it.this is just another one of those "you cant handle the truth" things.
Too Much of Contents Unacceptable.......2006-04-22
Volume 1, Chapter 2 begins the chronicle of Adolph Hitler's life as a young man and the life of "too many young men" in similar self destructive positions..e.g. it discusses how his ideology was molded in the effects of 'short term' labor, it discusses via his observations of many others, the effect of acoholism on "a man, his wife ,his children"[no goals could lead one from initially using a paycheck up in 3 days and eventually having it go the same Friday as getting paid often not returning home until a Sunday or Monday..it blames the "burgoise" for apathy and ignorance of the long term results of a Austrian society going decadent and tries even as early as these chapters to sublimely recruit its readers to reflect socialist/communist values(the country leaned toward Socialist Democracy)as being the key to turning young men from nothing to value to "giving even life"(as soldiers) to make the country something close to pre World War 1 "pride"(in other words why try to ever be arrogant enough to think of yourself as being of value, find something abstract to deem worthy)... it also incites prejudices(as to questioning why blacks should be trained to do anything of value ,which could be given to Aryans as well as to blame Jewish for the change from the neighborhood craftsman being replaced with department stores, etc..He had become driven at some point to seek out the identity of the 200,00 Jewish in a country of 2 million people by searching faces and trying to guess which man were Jewish..The book has an index, while not a complete index does list most of the topics on the pages which I scanned.
