Book Description
Ever since a walk home on a particularly stormy day, Jessica Mastriani has had an ability like no other. She became known worldwide as Lightning Girl—a psychic who could find the location of anyone, dead or alive. Jess finally had no choice but to embrace her newfound talent, and ended up lending her skills to the U.S. government.
But her work for them has taken a terrible toll, and Jess resurfaces months later a shadow of her former self, her powers gone, Lightning Girl no more. Her only hope is starting over in a new place, a big city where nobody knows her. It's only when Rob Wilkins unexpectedly shows up on her doorstep that she's forced to face her past. Rob, all the way from back home, needs her help. But how can Jess, her powers gone, find anyone, let alone the sister of a man she once loved . . . when she can't even find herself?
Missing You, the fifth and final book in the 1-800-Where-R-You series
Customer Reviews:
A great ending to a wonderful series...........2007-10-16
I was so glad when i found out that Sanctuary wasnt the last book. It wasn't bad but this was better. I loved the beginning, it kept you informed about everything that had happened, so you wouldn't be asking yourself later, huh?. I reread this book after i finished it the first time, just cause i couldn't get enough of it.In this book Rob and Jess are not together anymore. She lives in New York with Ruth and goes to Julliards. She doesnt have her powers anymore because of having posttraumatic stress syndrome. so when Robs shows up on her doorstep cause he needs her help to find his missing step sister, it gets really interesting..
This was my favorite in the series just cause i love ending. it doesnt let you down.
and because as a character Jess grew so much that it was hard not to love and hate her.
the LAST and the BEST book!.......2007-09-02
This book is simply amazing! I loved it loved it loved it! If you even LIKE Meg Cabot you are going to fall in love with her writing in this one! It is simply amazing and just fantastic! I definitely did not expect it to be this great but it was!! Buy with confidence- you are going to love this book!! This is the sequel to the many 1-800-Where-R-You books! I've read it five times!! It is the last book!
Missing You.......2007-06-20
As is tradition for these books, I finished this one in less than a day. And it is probably the best one in the series. Jess is 19 now, and I can definitely tell she's grown up. She handles the problems better, and the ending is one of the bests. I couldn't think of a better way to end this series. :P
A Beautiful Ending .......2007-05-20
This series is one of my all-time favorite Meg Cabots. I've learned to grow to love all the characters in this story- Jess, Rob, Ruth, Doug, her entire family... You can't help but like them and admire them for everything they've gone through. Plus, Rob and Jess are just great together.
And I know there was a huge gap between the fourth one and this finale, but I have to say, this series ender was better than anything I could have imagined. It was funny and über romantic. I found myself laughing, getting butterflies, even shedding a tear or two... all the good stuff that you could possibly ask for. It was highly satisfying, and at a different pace from the previous books. More mature somehow.
Apparently, Jess has apparently taken a few years off to work as a field agent of sorts, finding missing people amidst war in the Middle East. That is, until the trauma from the violence she was witness to caused her to lose her powers and subsequently attempt to lead a normal life as a college freshman. But then Rob turns up at her doorstep, the ex-love-of-her-life asking for her help.
It was gut-wrenching to see Jess messed up and not herself, and slowly finding her way back. Not to mention, you empathize with a lot of the decisions and doubts she has, which culminates in a highly satisfying and thoroughly enjoyable book worthy of a series finale. No regrets, it's been a great ride with 1-800-Where-R-You. :)
A Tidy Wrap-Up.......2007-05-16
I kind of thought that the ending for 1-800-Where-R-U #4 was all we were going to get for this series, but I was pleasantly surprised by the final book. The hiatus of the series corresponded well with the hiatus in Jess's life - she went off to help find people in Iraq, to New York City, to Julliard. A lot's been going on her life and there've been some changes. The Jess we know is still there, but grown up a bit, and she's been seriously affected by the events in the last couple of years. I don't know how closely her experiences and reactions parallel those of soldiers in Iraq, but I like that the war influenced the direction of this book. The characters are all still solid and entertaining, but a little more mature. Jess's new problem-solving style left me grinning and Rob is still a great counterpart to Jess, with hinted at depths yet still so very much a guy. I also liked Jess's resolutions of issues with her mom and the friendly sort of relationship Jess seems to have developed with Dr. Krantz.

Customer Reviews:
my favorite book.......2007-06-23
This book is wonderful. I think everyone in the world should read it. The characters are compelling, the plot is intriguing, and the entire concept of it is wonderful.
If you like Holes and you like superheroes (I do), this is your sort of book.
True Talents.......2007-06-20
I thought this was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I recommend it to those who have also enjoyed Scott Westerfeld's Midnighters Trilogy.
A dramatic story of confrontation and courage .......2007-05-13
It's been over a year since teen Eddie and his friends from Edgeview Alternative School have discovered their special hidden talents, which involve PSI and other extra-sensory abilities: now they are back with their families and looking for normalcy, when a kidnapping involves the group in both a rescue and a battle against an organization which seeks to use their talents for evil. A dramatic story of confrontation and courage evolves in an excellent, fast-paced story teen leisure readers at the middle to high school grades will relish.
Richie's Picks: TRUE TALENTS.......2007-04-06
"As I headed for the stairs, I sensed someone behind me. The footsteps matched my own. I sped up. So did the steps that followed me. I wanted to run. But that would be a mistake. Running would get me noticed. Notice would get me caught.
"Someone whispered in my ear. Three words. 'Be cool, Trash.' "
"School days were such happy days
Now they seem so far away"
--The Kinks
I fondly remember those school days that were so uncomplicated and happy, those younger days that revolved around friendships amongst a group of guys. Sadly, a devastating house fire two decades ago scatted the ashes of a long-cherished photograph to the wind, but I can still see that photo perfectly in my mind's eye. It was taken the afternoon of my twelfth birthday, exactly forty years ago, today. March 4th in 1967 fell on a Saturday. We were all dressed quite nicely -- mostly button-down shirts and even some blazers -- and we were all at my house, downstairs in the rec room, gathered close together at that moment, mugging for the camera. It would be the last big occasion I'd ever share with many of them, for we were in what would today be called a charter school, and many of those guys would begin the next school year at a distant junior high school situated at the other end of the large school district. The crowd that day included the lanky Mike O'Brien, an upcoming basketball player who could expertly pick out "Do You Want to Know a Secret" on his acoustic guitar. There was Paul Marino, who could pull faces that would crack up a Sphinx. David Cripps was my steady homework buddy -- we'd been the school's math stars for the past couple of years. Brian Staab and I had gotten together and collaborated on the sort of memorable science fair project that required incendiary devices.
Sure, I was also friends in those days with some girls. (Not that there were any at that party.) It was back when girls were still just people, with all the adolescent self-consciousness and weirdness somewhere yet on the horizon. Nevertheless, I just didn't have the kind of camaraderie with girls that I did with the guys. All the significant females in my life at that point in time were caregivers; in contrast, those guys played a significant role in who I was.
"When I woke on Friday morning, Martin was already up, watching TV with the sound turned low.
" 'I have a perfect plan,' he said. 'We stay here. The food is great. They have all the good cable channels.' He pointed to the TV section from the paper. 'There are some cool shows on tonight. The beds are comfortable, and there's a maid to clean up after us. What do you think?' "
David Lubar's 1999 tween novel HIDDEN TALENTS is a middle school treasure-of-a-story. I was turned onto it years ago by an eighth grader who announced in one of Shari's English classes that "Anyone who likes HOLES will love HIDDEN TALENTS." (That sure got us to read it in a hurry, and we've been booktalking it ever since.) HIDDEN TALENTS is the story of six troubled boys who, upon being sent to the high-security Edgewater Alternative School and meeting one another, discover that each is really a superhero of sorts -- a group of boys with hidden talents. One of the most wonderful things about HIDDEN TALENTS and TRUE TALENTS, one that is sometimes overlooked in those discussions that often center on the more clever and flashier aspects of the story, is the spot-on camaraderie among the boys.
"Flinch dove past me, landed on the bed with a belly flop, and shot his arm toward the bedside table. 'I got it,' he said. As he put his hand on the phone, it rang.
" 'Showoff,' I said.
"He flashed me a smirk and lifted the receiver. Before he could speak, I yanked the phone from him and shot it across the room to my waiting hand, then returned his smirk as I said, 'Hello?' "
In TRUE TALENTS, the long-awaited sequel, the six boys reunite and take their show on the road to Philly, becoming embroiled in a thriller of deceit and danger and death and double-crosses. A really, really bad guy has caught wind of some of their hidden talents and is developing a plan to control the sextet for his own sinister purposes. So the boys -- who so clearly care about each other -- have to help one another out of some seriously scary scrapes and, in the process, reveal their true talents.
"But there was nothing he could do about it. Life didn't come with a backspace key."
In TRUE TALENTS, as was the case with my life in sixth grade, the occasional female characters are pretty much all caregivers. And so, while there is no backspace key of life that permits me to go hang once again with my old buddies from the Grace L. Hubbs Extended School Year program, I have, instead, spent quality time chilling with another great bunch of guys: Martin, Cheater, Lucky, Flinch, Trash, and Torchie (who just set the candles AND the cake on fire).
fun tale for middle school children .......2007-03-11
The young teens met at the Edgeview Alternative School, but bonded as hopeless misfits dealing with the abusive bullying hulk Lester Bloodbath and the shock therapy punishments for alleged misbehavior of Principal Davis. A year has passed since "Trash" learned he has telekinetic powers and his mates found their skills too. Torchie lights fires, Cheater reads minds which enables him to cheat on tests, Lucky finds missing objects, Flinch forecasts the future, and Martin sees souls. Though each relishes a secret power, each also wants to be normal especially as they go to the American torture camp for dweebs: high school.
Back home Trash wonders if he dreamed of his super friends and his own psychic ability just like he dreamt of killing a gorilla. He tests his skill by mentally pick pocketing a wallet though he returns it to the owner; albeit with a reward. He next decides to see what he could do at the nearby Ben Franklin bank, but is caught with a successful telekinetic withdrawal of cash. Major Bowdler and a top secret squad looking into psychic phenomena has captured Trash and plan to use his skills for nefarious research purposes with their subject being an expendable butterfly. His only hope resides with the nerd squad of Edgeview, Torchie, Cheater, Lucky, Flinch, and Martin using their HIDDEN TALENTS as a team, but each first must escape from curfew imposed by adult supervision.
This sequel continues the adventures of the six nerdy psychic teens who became friends at Edgeview, but though they are moving on to high school remain in touch with one another. These six musketeers know the truth of one for all and all for one so when Trash gets into trouble his five banditos risk their freedom to try to rescue him from an immoral research group looking into psychic phenomena. TRUE TALENTS is a fun tale for middle school children and those adults who appreciate Potter-mania.

A Must Read !.......2007-10-16
This is the first series by Meg Cabot that i have read. I loved it. Jess is funny and admirable, always standing up for people who dont do it for themselves. Jess is a regular girl with anger management issues who gets struck by lightning and wakes up knowing the location of missing kids. She has a crush on a guy named Rob (gotta love him) who is 2 years older than her and wont date her. Everything is ok until she finds someone who does not want to be found. The rest you have to read for yourself to find out.
Series is great. GO JESS!!!!!!! :)

Enjoyable says a middle aged man.......2007-08-07
From the perspective of a man in his middle fifties, I have found Meg Cabot's adventure books, the Lightning Girl books and the Mediator books are very enjoyable.
I read YA books for their light content and fairly happy ending. A series like this allows for some character development that is often not found in adult adventure fare.
There are many of us who were hooked on the YA genre as our children went through this age group. When they stepped up to Dickens or Evanovich, we often returned to these books.
So often they deal with social issues neglected by adult genre fiction and made deadly dull by the more "literate" novels. Meg Cabot's books are no exception.
Sixth Sense.......2007-07-18
Another best-seller from meg cabot this book aboards the sixth sense like cabot has never done.
A serie that promises a normal girl that suddenly has to deal with completely new problems.
Diferent from the mediator because this girl receive her abilities when she is sixteen so you see how she deals with it since the beginning.
Such a great book that I ordered it from another country.
When Lightning Strikes: #1.......2006-12-23
I read this whole book in one night. It was amazing. It was funny, and suspenseful. I just couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next.
I suppose if you are looking for an in-depth description, you could look at some of the other freakishly-long reviews. This review is just meant to tell you that I loved this book so much.

Book Description
JESS MASTRIANI
was dubbed "Lightning Girl" by the press when she developed a psychic ability to find missing children after she was struck by lightning during a huge storm. Now Jess has lost her miraculous powers...or at least she would like the media and the government to think so. All she wants is to be left alone.
But it doesn't look like Jess is going to get her wish -- especially not while working at a summer camp for musically gifted kids. When the father of a missing girl shows up to beg Jess to find his daughter, Jess can't say no. Now the Feds are on her tail again, as is one ornery stepdad, who'd like to see Lightning Girl...well, dead.

Code Name Cassandra.......2007-02-05
This book was just as fast-paced as the first one. I read it in less than a day, just like the first one, and fans of the first book will not be disappointed. I was so happy with the ending. It seems like Jess is learning, even if it is slowly.
Code name cassandra.......2005-11-10
I am a big fan of Meg Cabot I've read I think a little more than 10 of her books and liked all but one. This book I love although I'm almost finished 80% really.
But I love the humor and the slight romance and how she writes makes me read so fast that I'm like "Where's the next one? Ah!!! I don't have it, must go get it" (Not literaly but you get the point (it's a really good book))
I was acually hopeing that someone would reas this and know what I'm talking about, if you own a copy of this book, in the back there is an advertisment for another book and it sounds really interesting to me so I wanted to look into it but the title is ripped because my miniture beagle got a hold of my copy therefore many pages are damgaged so if anyone knows the title to what I'm talking about I'd appreciate it if you could e-mail me the title. [...]
This is a little of the description on the back.
"When I was six months old, I dropped from the sky-the lone survivor of a deadly Japanese plane crash. The newspapers named me Heaven. I was adopted but a wealthy family in Tokyo, pampered, and protected. For nineteen years, I thought I was lucky. I'm learning how wrong I was."
If you know the title of this book would you please e-mail me with it, thank you.
the talents.......2005-04-06
Do you remember the parables of the talents? Jess would hate that one. All she wants to do is bury her talent under a bushel, in a hole, or anything. Or lose it. Whatever, she just wants to be a normal girl and get Rob Wilton to declare his undying love for her. She'll settle for the latter, oh- and get the FBI off her back. You see, since being hit by lightening, she is psychic, and can find missing people once she sees their picture. Naturally, the fibbies are interested. Since Jess does not want to wind up a lab rat, she has lied, saying she lost her powers. Still, she regularly makes secret calls to the missing persons' hotline to tell them where a missing child might be found.
When she gets a job as a summer camp counselor, life looks great, even if Rob was not exactly broken up over her being gone for weeks. She doesnt' even complain too much about being assigned a cabin full of bratty boys determined to drive her psychotic. Then, a father asks for her help in rescuing his child and a boy goes missing. Jess' secret can stay hidden or she can risk it all to save two kids.
With a moving message in a funny package, Ms. Cabot re-enforces the message of that parable, and also the necessity of self sacrifice for the good of others. Brava.
Jessica At Orchestra Camp.......2005-03-23
Jessica has supposedly lost her ability to locate people. Now she is working as a counselor at an orchestra camp. But things quickly go sour when she is pushed into running a boy's tent and her old nemesis from school is brought in to fill in her old place. To make things worse, her celebrity status is not completely unknown amongst the campers and staff.
In reality, Jess has not lost her powers but has gone underground with them. She secretly helps find kids who really need finding thanks to a contact at the kid search organization. But events unfolding at the camp may cause her to reveal the truth. She tries to publicly deny her ability but the FBI is still watching her. Then a camper goes missing. Jess, her love interest, and the FBI all get entangled as Jess tries to keep her life on a normal keel.
This is not just a rehash of the previous book. This one is much different in feel but is every bit as good. Readers will not be disappointed.

JESS MASTRIANI
was on vacation when Amber went missing. Most people blame Jess for Amber's brutal slaying, but how could Jess -- even with her psychic ability to find anyone, anywhere -- have stopped the cheerleader from turning up dead, without having known she was even missing?
When yet another cheerleader disappears, Jess has a chance to redeem herself. If she can just find the girl before it's too late, maybe Jess will finally have a chance to be part of the in crowd. Except that it's starting to look like being "in" might just get you -- not to mention your loved ones -- killed. So much for popularity.

Safe House.......2007-06-13
What a great book. Something about this series is so addictive, and I am just caught up in how funny the writing is, and still unable to put the book down no matter how hard I try. It was funny, it was interesting, it was a very quick read, and this is one of the best series that I've ever read.
Keeps you wanting more.......2007-01-30
In this third book of the series 1-800-Where-R-You, Jessica Mastriani finds herself in a bit of a pickle. Between the death of a cheerleader, who was from her own school, and trying to convince everyone that she no longer has her ESP powers (which enables her to locate missing people), she stumbles across another kidnaped cheerleader. She doesn't admit to still having her powers but right away she jumps into all of the action. She soon discovers that the police have no clue who the kidnappers were and that she is all alone in trying to solve this case. It all ends with a big twist and an unsuspecting kidnapper.
I really like this book and how it was written. I thought it did a good job of connecting with teens and not being too serious. I liked the author's diction. It was not too advanced and it was not too simple, it was just right. She uses words like blurting, chick, disgust, and kissing to make the reader like and trust the narrator. I disliked the graphic detail when they found the second kidnap victim. It was just too graphic and gross for me. I think it could have been a little less gruesome. I would certainly recommend this book and this series to high school students but I think it would be too advanced for elementary and middle school students even though there is simple diction. Overall, it was a great book.
Hard act to follow and doesn't quite make it.......2007-01-10
Meg Cabot is an awesome writer. I've adored most of her books, even though I am older than her target audience. I first stumbled across her after the Princess Diary movie, of course, but soon found that the Mediator series and the 1-800- series were my favorites.
This series starts off fantastic, and the first four books are well worth reading again and again. But this last book doesn't quite match up. Maybe it's because there was a gap in Jessica's life between the last two books, maybe because of all of her experiences, whatever the reason this one was much harder to get into.
Every other book in the series followed directly after the one before it, but this one jumps over a year. A year in which incredibly significant, and traumatic events happened. There were very dramatic changes in Jess's personality and those were explained by her experiences, but it almost felt like I had missed a book in a series. Or come in 10 minutes late for a movie. The explanations made sense clinically but they didn't make sense emotionally.
That being said even Meg's worst book is worth reading, and this was NOT her worst book.
-Still a fan of Meg Cabot!
Safe House.......2006-09-20
Jessica Mastriani is a girl that attends Ernest Pyle High School. She has a psychic ability to find missing people by connecting with their belongings, or strangely by feeling exactly what they are feeling as they are being kidnapped. She can't stand it when the FBI tries to run tests on her to use her as help of their investigations. So one day she decides to make up a ludicrous story, stating that due to electric shock, she no longer has psychic powers. Until one day. She shows up at school as it seemed to appear as a normal day, until she enters homeroom. The one girl that sat in front of her in homeroom ever since middle school hadn't appeared in sight. Jess didn't know. She was out of town for the summer; But Amber Mackey (the girl that sat in front of her) had been murdered! First it stated out as a kidnapping, which later led to an unknown murder. Amber was the type of girl that everyone idolized. She was a cheerleader, smart popular and very pretty. Rumors began to spread quicker than the west Nile virus. Many people began to suspect that Mark Leskowski, Amber's boyfriend, was the murderer. But in Jessica's eyes, he was an innocent soul, for goodness sake, the jock of the school cried when Amber died. Then as the Amber Mackey case was yet to be solved, Heather Montrose, a student who also attended Pyle High, was kidnapped as well. But when Heather was kidnapped, Mark Leskowski was with Jessica, he couldn't possibly be the killer. Who could have kidnapped Heather? Why was Jessica messing around with a dead girl's boyfriend? So many questions that are yet to be answered. In order for Jessica to use her psychic ability to find Heather, she must have something Heather once kept with her. She must also make sure that the FBI does not suspect that she still has psychic ability.
Then mysterious phone calls where made to Jessica's house, threatening her for her life. Whoever this person was, knew what Jessica was up to. As she attempts to find Heather, Claire Lippman is kidnapped! No suspects were made but one. Jessica's brother, only because he once attempted to take his own life, and by the way, he is recovering. Then one day. As Jessica is talking to her crush, Rob Wilkins, something takes over her. You wouldn't possibly think that anything worse can happen after her family restaurant is burnt to ashes. Something just takes over her. She is in the scene, smelling, seeing, and feeling everything Claire Lippman is experiencing. As she leads Rob and finds the shed that Claire was in, the mystery is still unknown. Almost all of the preppies of the school hang out at that same shed. Who could the murderer be? Just as the mystery continues to grow, doctors have found that Amber Mackey was pregnant! Once the clues were put in place, it all made perfect sense. Her boyfriend Mark thought that football was everything. No exceptions! Could he be the murderer? OR could it be his friend Jeff? Was Jessica's brother Douglas the murderer? Whoever the Ernest Pyle High murderer was knew exactly what he was doing. I definitely recommend this book. It is a mystery and it makes you think. It keeps you reading and guessing what will happen next.
Book Description
Nexus offers an engaging and insightful journey of an odd mix of people drawn together to a spiritual retreat to overcome personal pain. This book will please readers of spiritual, new age, inspirational, self-help and visionary fiction books. It weaves insights within the narrative like The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield and The Peaceful Warrior series by Dan Millman.
Starting with a dramatic suicide scene through intimate details of the struggle of Logan Andrews with depression and despair, we are brought on a journey of inner struggle and personal transformation. The reader is transported to a spiritual retreat where the experiences of people at the retreat provide illuminating life lessons. The tone of book creates an authentic journey that is both exploratory and insightful.
The overriding theme in
Nexus is mystical in its nature, narrating experiences of deeper connection felt with one another and all of life. This is poignantly highlighted in key passages, including Logan's empathy for a dying fish in Chapter 6.

Need for Spiritual Change.......2007-07-01
I've read many spiritual books and this one really spoke to me with a story that communicated about both the highs and lows of spiritual life through the touching journey of people at a retreat center. Each person in the story is dealing with their own sorrow from the depression-despair of Logan, Sarah's loss of direction and Muriel's desire to be comforted in her old age. Steven is fixated on his money-making schemes and in order for him to experience growth, he needs to connect to the path of love.
The story speaks of something deeper - a need for spiritual change. It isn't always stated on the surface and you have to dig deeper to recognize that as the central theme of this book. Yet you feel this impulse motivating the communication between teachers and students at the retreat center and the experiences there allude to a deeper bond - to the Nexus that connects us all through our heart where empathy and compassion can grow with experiences of our Oneness. The compassion Logan shows for a dying fish vividly captures this theme. This vision of non-duality is always there beneath the surface though our ego stands in the way of its realization.
The message in this book is beautiful and so I want others to know about it. Through spiritual books like this, we can delve into consciousness transformation and share it with others.
Really Bad. Don't Buy.......2007-06-30
I made the mistake of purchasing this book because it was referenced in a review for The Road (an amazing fiction currently on the best seller list). Now I realize I was probably led into buying it by one of the authors' friends or supporters. The 5 star reviews are bias, to say the least! The dialogue is beyond bad. It is stilted and at times downright silly. I love top quality spiritual writings like "The Power of Now" by E. Tolle or the writings of D. Chopra. It's not that I am spiritually closed, I just know very bad writing when I see it.
This "fiction" is an attempt to flesh out the spiritual teachings of the two authors through poorly crafted, one dimensional characters. I would rather drink flax oil and fast for a week to better my soul than read this kind of stuff. I anticipate receiving some unsupportive votes for this review, and these will likely come from the friends of the authors who have written the 5 star reviews. So be it. I'd rather be honest and save the potential Amazon customer some money!
Thought Provoking.......2007-05-30
NEXUS is an absorbing guide to the dazzling universe of spirituality! Written in the appealing genre of a new age novel I found NEXUS to be a remarkable psychological and spiritual adventure filled with mystery, enchantment, romance, insights, as well as being highly realistic in terms of life's joys and sorrows. I just couldn't put the book down!!!
The diverse assortment of characters were realistic, and the plot was deep, lively and fast paced throughout. NEXUS WORKED AT VERY DEEP LEVELS OF MY MIND TO PENETRATE MY SUBCONSCIOUS AND TO EXPAND AND INSPIRE MY SUPERCONSCIOUS MIND. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!
By carefully reading NEXUS and reflecting on the philosophical insights inherent throughout the book I found that I could tap into my deepest inner centre of being- my inner source of strength, wisdom and compassion...what a discovery!!!
I heard about NEXUS from a friend and that is why I bought the book. I told another friend about NEXUS but she had already just finished reading it and was most impressed.
It seems that people everywhere are suddenly experiencing an intense attraction to NEXUS, one of the most valuable books I've read in a long time.
Another new age novel that I highly recommend is The Saint, the Surfer, and the CEO: A Remarkable Story About Living Your Heart's Desires
Spiritually Uplifting.......2007-05-21
Every once in a while you come across a book that resonates at a deeper soulful level. "Nexus: A Neo Novel" is one of those books that touches you through a spiritual journey of transformation of people in the book. Their transformation is an inner one at the level of their heart and psyche.
For Logan Andrews the transformation requires that he move from negative thoughts and emotions to positive ones. This task is fraught with difficulties, since even at a spiritual retreat intended to help people find the centre of their being called the Nexus, Logan is confronted with his greatest loss as he meets his ex, Sarah.
I really liked the sub-plot with Steven, an arrogant millionaire, who at first is irritating but in time he grows on you and becomes an endearing person. Steven believes that money is the answer to life's problems but has he lost his way?
Even though the writers of "Nexus" have their own unique voice, still this book reminds me of other visionary writers like James Redfield, Carlos Castaneda and Dan Millman. I highly recommend "Nexus" as a deeply moving experience of personal transformation whose message spiritual readers will most appreciate.
Powerful Insights.......2007-04-23
The appeal of "Nexus" lies in an original story that is fast-paced and chock-full of powerful insights. This book is about transformation as an organic process.
The novel is unique as a collaborative effort by two authors who have successfully integrated their writing into an inspiring narrative. This book explores the ups and downs of spiritual life through the journey of people at a spiritual retreat and we can relate their experiences to our own life.
I love this book for its piercing insights and a memorable soulful journey. "Nexus" reminds me of books like "The Celestine Prophecy," "The Life of Pi" and "The Alchemist" - some other books that I've enjoyed reading.

Book Description
This mesmerizing, surreal account of the bizarre adventures of Terence McKenna, his brother Dennis, and a small band of their friends, is a wild ride of exotic experience and scientific inquiry. Exploring the Amazon Basin in search of mythical shamanic hallucinogens, they encounter a host of unusual characters -- including a mushroom, a flying saucer, pirate Mantids from outer space, an appearance by James and Nora Joyce in the guise of poultry, and translinguistic matter -- and discover the missing link in the development of human consciousness and language.

Even Better as an Audio Book!.......2007-08-29
Hands down--Terence McKenna is the best storyteller that I've ever encountered, and True Hallucinations is one of my very favorite books of all-time. Terence's masterfully-crafted language simply holds me spellbound. A lot of people aren't aware that the book True Hallucinations is actually based upon a nine CD audio set of Terence telling the tale of his extraordinary adventures in the Amazon. As incredible as this book is, it simply pales by comparison next to the original "talking book." Terence was a master of language, and hearing him tell this story in his own voice is an incomparable experience. The True Hallucinations Talking Book was published by Sound Photosynthesis in Mill Valley, California.
Expedition to the Amazon--an encounter with the magic mushroom in the presence of the "Other".......2007-08-04
Someone first getting acquainted with Terence McKenna probably has listened to some of his theories on novelty, time, and psychedelics and would like to dive deeper into his ideas by exploring his written works. In that case, the books "The Invisible Landscape", "Food of the Gods", and "The Archaic Revival" would be the most direct path.
However if you have a place in your heart for Terence then it would eventually be necessary to read "True Hallucinations". This is the true story of his journeys to the Amazon jungle in 1971, an expedition which started out in search of the shamanic brew ayahuasca. The travelers, Terence, his brother Dennis, and three friends, are quickly taken in a different direction--the mushrooms.
The mushrooms are a constant presence in the rest of the story. Not only are there fresh specimens scattered plentifully across the jungle floor, but the group appears to be in the presence of what Terence calls "an Other". He and Dennis go into a frenzied state of figuring out what the hell it could be and how they might try to understand more about it. Of course this means lots more mushrooms, and they also use harmine for a combinatory effect. This culminates in "the experiment at La Correra", after which Dennis appears to depart from reality for two solid weeks.
Terence gives the details on how he got his ideas on novelty and time, which came to him by hints from the "Other" after what appeared to be an encounter with a flying saucer. The body of ideas that he developed during this time resulted in novelty theory and the Timewave construction out of the King Wen sequence of I Ching hexagrams. Terence eventually came back from the Amazon and wrote "The Invisible Landscape" with Dennis in 1975.
Another important story that is told in this book is how Terence and Dennis developed a successful technique of home-cultivation of psilocybin mushrooms. This resulted in the first step-by-step guide in 1976, "Psilocybin: Magic Mushroom Grower's Guide", which started the underground industry. This work has been carried on with a tribute to the McKenna's contributions to the study of mushroom cultivation in the book "Psilocybin: Mushroom Handbook" by Nichols and Ogame.
I really enjoyed this book because it is a good example of how someone's view of the world and reality and ultimately their path in life can change dramatically if consciousness suddenly raises to very high levels. I know personally what this can be like, so for me this was an amazing story. This last aspect puts "True Hallucinations" into a rare class of books which tell a story of personal transcendence, this one being historically and philosophically similar to Robert Anton Wilson's "Cosmic Trigger" and Philip K. Dick's "Valis/Exegesis".
Great read for any fan of psyconauts.......2007-04-05
I found this to be a very good read and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It gives some great seeds to new thoughts.
I like the McKenna brothers.......2006-08-28
The work they've done, the lectures, the books, Dr. Dennis's research, etc - it's all good. This text IMHO should have been edited much more thoroughly before being published.
An historical review of his trip.......2005-10-15
Well basically there is not much you will learn with this book. This is a great tale, that the author didn't want to be forgotten, so he wrote this book.
Take a look at http://deoxy.org/t_weeke1.htm to know his ideas more deeply.
Book Description

But when a local boy's disappearance is attributed to a backwoods militia group, Jess's goal -- to find the missing child -- and Dr. Krantz's -- to stop a group of madmen before they kill again -- turn out to be one and the same. Suddenly Jess finds herself working with one enemy in order to stop a far worse one. In an atmosphere of hate and fear, can Jess and Dr. Krantz -- not to mention Jess's would-be boyfriend, Rob -- work together to unite a community and save a life...without losing their own?

Sanctuary.......2007-06-13
Jess is changing, as are all the other characters. It's so interesting now to look back to the first book, and I realize that so much has happened but it doesn't seem like that much. And now there is only one book left in the series and I guarantee you I will miss reading these books. They go by fast, let me tell you.

She had other things on her mind like skipping out on her families Thanksgiving and heading over to celebrate with her boyfriend.
Later she regrets it when on her way home she stumbles across the murder scene, someone had killed Nate and abandoned his body in a corn field, the hype for all killers in Indiana when they want to dispose of a body. Only a day or so after Nate, the mysterious gang attacks the synagogue, and desecrates the churches cemetry. Now Jess is out for revenge enough that she can't even hide her psychic powers from Dr. Krantz the new FBI person following her around and trying to recruit her.

Adventures of a Psychic might not be the next Indiana Jones sequel, but the "adventures" in the title is appropriate, since Sylvia Browne never stops amazing us with her channeling, psychic visions, healing, and even ghost stories. Coauthor Antoinette May's biographical talents are first rate, however her third person point of view tends to distance the reader from Browne's story. May compensates for this minor shortcoming by expertly weaving Browne's psychic talents with her personal life, from childhood to grandmotherhood, and grounding the supernatural parts of Adventures of a Psychic in the same sort of mundane problems we are all prone to run into. While reading this book, you may stare with an open mouth at glimpses of a world beyond death, and at the same time discover that we all possess a limitless potential, even if we are not gifted with psychic ability. --Brian Patterson
Book Description
This is the remarkable story of one woman's psychic odyssey. It offers illuminating insights into how we can better understand ourselves and our own psychic abilities.

only if you're out of toilet tissue.......2007-10-01
What a load of tripe! This Browne lady is not only a felon, but a liar when it comes to her education, psychic abilities and being a non-smoker. She doesn't even write the books her name is attached to. Even watching TV is more entertaining than this garbage.
Mixed Feelings but I still follow her!.......2007-05-07
I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed with Sylvia Browne. I have watched her for years on the Montel Williams Show. When I first bought this book, I was disappointed once I started reading about Francine who I come later to know as part of Sylvia Browne's psychic abilities. By studying psychics like Sylvia Browne, I gain a better understanding of myself more than her. I don't agree with her a hundred percent of the time but it doesn't mean that I don't love her or admire her ability. She's here to help us. Her life has been traumatic, difficult, and messy at times. That's because psychics too are human and make mistakes. We're terrible with predicting ourselves but we can guide our family and friends to better lives if they only listen to advice. Maybe the book is beneficial in helping us unload the stress of our lives. No, being human and alive is not easy. Psychics tell me that I'm going to live to be about 90 and I'm scared. I don't want to live that long. I'll outlive all my family and friends and be all alone. If Sylvia Browne might be outrageous, outspoken, and opinionated, it doesn't mean that she gets it wrong most of the time. All psychics make mistakes and are not perfect. But if you love Sylvia Browne, you will love this book. But by reading it, i had to seek out my own knowledge and it's been a whirlwind adventure of trying to become more psychic, intuitional, and better atuned to natures and our surroundings. We don't have to pack up and move to find serenity, peace, and love. We just have to close our eyes and let your mind go there. This book and other books about the paranormal are not suggested for skeptics, atheists, and those who seek to disprove her claims. That's such a waste of energy!
Her first book was her best!.......2007-04-03
A common sense approach to life-keep it simple. Many of the things she
wrote about were things I felt I already knew on some level and this was the first time I had seen them in words.
Reassuring,comforting,thought provoking and humorus.
Shawn Hornbeck was one of her adventures.......2007-03-28
Just because Francine says its sooo... doesn't mean it is. She has been debunked three times on CNN so really ... these adventures are more mischief than soul serving.
The Mystical Life of Jesus: An Uncommon Perspective on the Life of Christ
Adventures of a Psychic.......2007-01-12
I enjoyed this book because Sylvia shows examples. I like the case histories the best. She explains her gift and the responsibility that goes with it. Another good addition to my Sylvia 'library'.

Just as funny as its predecessor.......2007-08-01
I'm glad I found this series about the same time that Harry Potter and the Underland Chronicles came to an end, or bereavement and withdrawals would have been even more severe than they already were. GILDA JOYCE, PSYCHIC INVESTIGATOR was funny, clever, and original, and its sequel is just as good.
Gilda is one of those rare characters you just love to read about. If there was no plot to this book at all, I think it still would have warranted at least three stars. Ms. Allison has hit a goldmine with this character, and I for one hope she spins the series out as long as she can. I don't think this is the sort of series that can possibly be too long.
Now, on to the actual book. Our Lady of Sorrows is NOT a school Gilda wants to attend, despite its prestigious reputation and the fact that she's earned a scholarship there thanks to her mother's boyfriend's influence. But when she finds out there's a mystery there...a mystery involving the ghost of a drowned girl and a mysterious society calling themselves the Ladies of the Lake, she knows she just HAS to attend, even if it means wearing a bright pink uniform identifying her as a freshman and dealing with a classful of weird girls, not one of whom (except maybe fake-rebel, ghost-seeing Tiara) might be a potential friend.
It's a great story, but even more than that, it's a Gilda Joyce story, and that makes it automatically hilarious even when it's sending chills up your spine.
Rating: Masterpiece
Even better than the first Gilda Joyce book!!!!.......2007-01-22
This was such a fun book. It flows nicely and keeps a great pace throughout the story, no slow, dragging parts. Allison has done a fabulous job creating believable characters. It's got a slight spooky factor without being super scary. However, the main characters are in high school, therefore the content is probably more appropriate for 7th grade and up. I can't wait for the next Gilda Joyce book!
Gilda... not such a nice girl.......2006-12-06
This book was moderately entertaining, but certainly not as good as the first book in this new girl detective series. Gilda is back in Detroit this time and attending a new school - Our Lady of Sorrows - that is haunted by the ghost of a former student. The mystery surrounding a dead student is actually pretty good, and Gilda uncovers a lot of clues
by searching around and asking questions. The problem is that Gilda is a freshman in high school, and she's investigating the 'case' as though she was a police officer -going around late at night in unsafe places, talking to parents at their homes, questioning teachers and administrators, etc. You definitely have to enter the realm of the unbelievable to enjoy the story. I noticed too that this book was less children-oriented than the last one. The first book featuring Gilda seemed suitable for about 5th grade and higher, but this book seems geared for a much higher grade level. Some of the language and the way in which Gilda talks back to her mother and (perhaps) stepfather sets a bad example for younger readers. I didn't remember Gilda being so contentious in the last book, and her character is certainly more harsh and unlikeable in this installment. I would recommend the book, but caution readers that if you enjoyed Gilda in the first book, she may prove less than appealing in this one.
Couldn't stop reading this Gilda!.......2006-07-27
The Ladies of the Lake is a terrific book. Especially during the last third of the story, I couldn't put it down, and I don't have that reaction to many books - even adult novels! Gilda's gutsy, never-back-down reactions to the many complications in the excellently detailed plot are both fun and completely realistic. This is a kid who is up to the challenges of facing the world - a character both entertaining and comforting to young readers facing pressure from peers and school. Besides the insightful treatment Allison gives the dangers of social cliques, she addresses some pretty complicated moral and family issues in this book convincingly and with humor; quite an accomplishment, in my opinion. Gilda's interactions with Barry Squib, Mrs. Joyce's new boyfriend, are priceless. If I were a pre-teen again, this would be one of those books I would read over and over. I felt challenged, entertained, and comforted by Gilda's navigation through her adventures. This is not to be missed - a very exciting read.
This Psychic Investigator Rocks.......2006-07-12
When Gilda Joyce's mom suggests a private school, Gilda is less than thrilled. She enjoys going to school with her best friend, Wendy. Why would she even consider a snotty, upper class, private girls' academy? Trying to be civil--after all, her mom's boyfriend has greased the wheels for her entrance--Gilda agrees to check it out.
Our Lady of Sorrows is worse than Gilda expected. The only thing that can convince her to attend would be a good mystery. While on a tour of the campus, a mystery is just what she finds. As a "psychic detective," Gilda decides to go undercover to find out what really happened to Delores Lambert--the freshman who drowned in the school's lake three years earlier--even if it means wearing a ghastly pink uniform.
At Our Lady of Sorrows, Gilda makes new friends and enemies, and the ghost of Delores seems to haunt them all. What starts out as a mystery soon grows into something much larger, and more dangerous than Gilda ever expected.
Gilda is smart and sassy, yet she happily marches to her own beat. The concept of the "psychic detective" is fun for kids and creates a great opportunity to pull kids in to another great series. With all of the paranormal/magic series out there for kids, it's interesting to see a new character who deals with the unusual while existing in an otherwise "normal" world.
While this is a good pick for most kids, some parents may not care for the use of mildly explicit language (d***; a**) or for some ethical choices Gilda makes, especially toward the end. Fortunately, Gilda comes through in more ways than one.
