learning Italian on the go.......2007-09-19
It's very good for the real beginner; the introduction is kind of boring and repetitive but it's is effective. Then it gets better and fun. I learned quite a bit.
Fantastico!.......2007-07-26
So far so good, still on the first CD. It's easy to understand and great process for learning. The break down on how to pronounce the words makes it easy.
Bravissimo!.......2007-07-19
I bought this CD set for my mother who wants to learn Italian, but doesn't have the time to take a class. I've listened to the CD's with her and found the lessons very easy to follow, pronounce and retain. The lessons on the CD's are broken down from Beginner to Intermediate. The booklet that accompanies the set is a great guide for reviewing what you've learned and to assist with annunciations. The speakers on the tape speak very clearly and there are alot of pauses and repetitions which allow you to really grasp the words. Also, each lesson is long enough for you to pick up a few new words, but short enough so you don't become bored. I think this is a fun purchase for beginners who want to get their feet wet with a new language.
Not for Vacationers.......2007-07-18
As mentioned in another review, first CD is great, then "learning" triple speeds so, if you are lucky, you will catch only one or two words. Plus, vocabulary is not for travelers - you can learn how to ask if people are from Spain or China, but not how to find stations, menu items, etc. Very disappointed.
Drive Time: Italian (CD).......2007-06-27
Easy to understand native speakers. Lots of pause time to repeat and practice words and sentences.

Good sound advice.......2007-08-27
My mother told me she had the opportunity to go listen to Eleanor Roosevelt give a talk at her college during the 1930's. She said Mrs. Roosevelt was a powerful and inspriational speaker, while at the same time seem like a next door neighbor.
After reading this book, I have to agree with my mother (don't tell her that!). This book is filled lots of very practical and useful ideas for everyday living. I would recommend this book for high school reading and then have them re-read it about tens after graduation.
You Learn By Living by Eleanor Roosevelt.......2007-08-23
I enjoyed the book very much. I am quite an Eleanor Roosevelt admirer and found much of what was in the book to be ageless in its presentation. It is a book I intend to give to my granddaughter.
You Learn by Living , Eleanor Roosevelt.......2007-04-10
This is a excellent book for any graduate, no matter what stage of life.
Eleanor Roosevelt offers advice on how to be the best person one can be.
Even at middle age I found this book to be very inspirational at this stage of my life. Live life to the fullest.
Everyone should read this book.......2003-07-26
This is a little-known but delightful gem of a book. The inimitable Eleanor Roosevelt was a prolific author, but this effort is among her very best. Forged by adversity throughout her life, Eleanor was born into a privileged, wealthy family. Her father, Elliot, was Theodore Roosevelt's brother.
My favorite chapter is "The Right to Be an Individual." Mrs. Roosevelt stresses that individuality is something to be prized, yet people want to remain safe, surrounded by a group. She stresses we should strive against this and always be true to ourselves. This is a simple, yet eloquent philosophy. The entire book is full of wit, wisdom and some profound bits of advice. I am a better person for having read this book and I think everyone can take something meaningful from its pages.
You Learn By Living Eleven Keys For A More Fulfilling Life.......2002-09-29

Useful if Used with Behind the Wheel Spanish/Not Alone.......2007-08-14
I have purchased virtually every Spanish course I could find on Amazon.
Some are great, like Behind the Wheel Spanish 8 CDs and text.
Others are medicore, like Drive Time Spanish.
Drive Time would be better if they cut out the horns blowing and all the other cute tricks that distract rather than teach.
Aside from this and other drawbacks, I do feel that the course is worth purchasing if used with another superior course such as Behind the Wheel Spanish.Behind the Wheel Spanish/Complete Illustrated Text/Answer Keys/8 One Hour
Impossible to follow.......2007-07-31
CD 1 starts off great! The speaker reviews words over and over, and they're used in sentences repeatedly. It moves nice and slow, which is valuable when you're trying to drive (Drive Time...)
By CD2 they quit the repetition, and they speak the words so quickly, there's absolutely no hope of keeping up.
I gave up
Not for beginners but a great tool for those with prior exposure to spanish.......2007-06-12
This audio collection is a definite tool if you have had previous exposure to learning spanish. If you are a beginner with no experience in learning the lanuguage, this series probably moves too fast for you and is a little more difficult to comprehend. I had 4 years of spanish in high school but had a 4 year lull where I didn't study the language so I lost a lot. This CD set offered a quick reintroduction to the language on the first CD and then takes off into some of the grammar and a lot of dialogue. This is a very valuable tool in learning to feel comfortable speaking the language. I listen in the car on the way to work and back and have listened to each CD several times so it sticks in my brain. I would reccomend to anyone who has taken at least a year of spanish in the past and feels comfortable with the basics such as pronouns, simple phrases and some verbs.
Drive Time Spanish (Living Language).......2007-05-31
I have a little Spanish behind me, though I never took a formal class. I also live in a place with a lot of Spanish around me. Therefore I didn't need to crawl through the basics. For my modest skills, this series of lessons moved at a suitable pace. After 10 or 12 lessons -- about an hour's worth -- I could string a few original sentences together in a pinch and I was starting to think in Spanish a little. I'm not doing it in a car so it is very noticable that the lessons build on a highway driving theme but you gotta start somewhere and highways are as good as any place. The pronunciations are academic, not like Spanish speakers really talk but isn't that always the way?

the first cd was good, the second went to major grammer and was difficult to learn from. would not recommend this for beginners.

The story of Samson is the perfect vehicle to reveal the twelve tendencies that can bring down strong men: disregarding their boundaries, struggling with lust, ignoring good advice, overestimating their own cleverness, and others.
Written in a compassionate, funny, and practical style, The Samson Syndrome offers readers powerful ideas for making sure they use their greatest strengths to honor God in every situation.

Great Book.......2007-05-23
The title of this book leads you to believe that we can learn something from a "bad" boy and the book certainly suceeds in that endeavor. I enjoyed the book so much that we are using it for a Bible study with the men's group at our church. Mark Atteberry's insights of Samson are very practical and hard-hitting in our own life. I highly recommend this book for men who are interested in being "real" men in this world. You can learn lessons from what others did wrong.
What every man needs to know........2005-10-12
I feel this book is very interesting in that it offers insight and direction concerning the thoughts and behavior of men. It offers a God center showing that there is a way to avoid the pitfalls that many of us often blindly fall into. Great reading, insight and challenging.
Helpful Advice, but not Truly Transformative.......2005-03-29
There's alot to be said for this book. It's got a unique perspective, using Samson as a springboard for men's issues. It's well written with plenty of sports and other fun anecdotes. It's been well received at a men's study group I attend. But in the end, I felt a little empty---because most of the content could have been written by someone who wasn't even a Christian. There's plenty of truth and good advice, but the book is lean on new covenant reality---the new heart, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the ministry of the Body---the things that make walking with Christ more than just another religion, the things that God supplies only to the believer to truly escape "The Samson Syndrome".
A funny Chisel.......2003-12-14
Wow! what an awkward name for a book. but it really is kinda like that. A summary of this book is the 12 things that can drag a man down in his leadership in the home, in Church, and his relationship with God. (In my eyes.) These 12 points are taken from the character of Samson, and his weak personality traits that led him to his undoing.
Mixed in as well are some rather humorous stories, and some hard hitting ones as well. Not only this, but the pages of this book are backed up by scripture (be wary of the Christian book that doesnt!) I would suggest this book for anyone who is tired of falling in the same sins, that seem stuck, or just want to be better men (or women) I remember reading this for the first time, and then after I was done with a chapter, I had to go, "Wow God, is this me?" It was a true growing experience, and even now when I read it, I get cool new stuff. Good book.
A thoroughly "user friendly" self-help book for Christians.......2003-08-07
The Samson Syndrome by Mark Atteberry (Minister at Poinciana Christian Church) is a thoroughly "user friendly" self-help book for Christians (especially Christian Men), concerning the lessons that can be learned from the Strongest Man of Biblical Old Testament lore. Cautioning against errors common to the strong (including the tendency to use anger as a tool, take too much for granted, or lose sight of the big picture), The Samson Syndrome is profound in both its universally applicable advice and in its encouragement of a Christian faith in God.

perfect for drivers.......2007-08-08
this is a perfect japanese learning tool for when you are in a car and a beginners. one of things that i like about it is, it repeats words all the time, it just make you memorize it even if you are in the next chapter. highly recommended!
Excellent in the car.......2007-06-08
Basically hear and repeat. Best if you have had at least some intro to Japanese pronounciation. Occasionally reference to the book also helps, but you don't have to be looking at anything to do the drills.
Fast and thorough.......2007-06-02
Coming from the Pimsleur method of learning Japanese, this audio course felt rushed, and I felt I couldn't absorb as much information.
The vocabulary words are shot at you 10-15 at a time, and there is little review before the next set of vocab, causing me to have to listen to each 1-minute-long "mile marker" over and over again.
This is to Pimsleur as trying to memorize a dictionary is to learning from a textbook.
It just doesn't seem prudent to listen to in the car because I find myself either listening to the 1-minute tracks on repeat until they sink in, or listen to a bunch at a time, and retaining nothing because the quizzing and recall flies by so quickly.
Also, the response time is extremely short. I can barely answer the question in English in that amount of time.
ALL THAT SAID, a strong vocabulary is necessary obviously, and I am eager to get to a level where this tape will be useful for me. For right now, I'm going to settle for the Pimsleur method of simple vocabulary, and focusing on grammar and sentence structure.
Wonderful starter program!!.......2007-05-23
I am new to learning Japanese and this program is giving me confidence. It is challenging enough so I don't get bored, but simple enough that I can follow along. I don't think this will substitute for a real Japanese course, but it's a great "foot in the door" for a very intimidating language.
decent intro to the language.......2007-05-14
Disc one is a very basic intro to Japanese sounds. The other three discs are more technical, covering a lot of grammar and a handful of vocabulary. If you want to learn Japanese and don't know anything about it yet, this is a great set to start with.

Pleasure of learning French.......2007-08-24
I like that the native speakers are reading material on CDs. I can catch the pronunciation of french words. I do not like that some of the word pronounced on CD can not be found in the book that accompany the disks.
Speak Slowly Please.......2006-08-08
The first section of this course was fantastic -- they pronounced each French phrase very slowly, had you repeat each syllable, and then sped it up to full speed. However, after the first few lessons the slow, careful pronunciation ceased, and the French came flying at me too quickly to hear clearly. This is supposed to be an audio-based course, so the book is not very inclusive and offered little help in deciphering the speakers. I'm very dissapointed.

Living Language In-Flight Dutch is the perfect boarding pass to learning Dutch before you land.
There's no better way to make use of all that spare time on a plane than to master the essentials of a language. This 60-minute program is the simplest way to learn just enough to get by in every situation essential to both the tourist and business traveler.
The program covers everything from greetings and polite expressions to asking directions, getting around, checking into a hotel, and going to a restaurant. There are even sections for meeting people and spending a night on the town.
Short lessons make In-Flight Dutch easy to use, and a handy pocket-sized insert is included as a cheat sheet for use on the go.

dutch is har.......2007-03-09
Not too bad of an item. It is what it is. I highly recommend following along with the book. I don't see how anyone would learn this in the time it takes to fly there, but the phrases are useful, and it is enough to learn to be polite. Other than the title being a bit decieving. The product itself is pretty good.
Takes longer than 1 flight.......2005-10-13
This CD is just for Basic dutch, but that's quite alot to learn even on long flight. Maybe I'm retarded, but after about a week of listening in my car daily, I retained about 80% of the phrases and words.
Ironically, people in the Nederlands speak English as a second language. So Listen to chapter 2, "Sprecken ya Anals?" (you speak English?) is all you need. I did pretty well talking dutch and it did impress my fellow travelers. I did introduce my buddy as my girlfriend a bit too many times, funny though.
Does Just What it Intends To.......2003-08-20
An excellent quick introduction to Dutch, this CD doesn't pretend to give you a complete grounding in Dutch, but teaches you the important phrases you need when travelling in the Netherlands (where is the train station? How much is it? Good morning, etc.). One of the things I liked about it was, it was short and simple, short enough to listen to on the airplane (hence the name). After all, most people in the Netherlands speak very good English. I just wanted to learn enough Dutch to be courteous. Although the packaging said you can use it without the accompanying booklet, I wouldn't advise it! The phrases are spoken once without being repeated, and I needed the book to keep up. Besides, its useful to know how Dutch looks written.

Not the place to start........2007-04-19
As some of the other reviewers noted, Hungarian is a unique language. It is not related to the other Central European languages, it is not derived from Latin. Heck, it isn't Indo-European.
This is important when considering what to buy when trying to learn the language in that it means: 1. you are not going to recognize individual words because they are not similar to the same word in French, Italian, Spanish, German or English and 2. you are not going to be familiar with the vowel or the consonants. There are sounds unknown to English in Hungarian.
So why am I babbling on about this? One of the first phrase this ill-thought teaching method tries to teach you is " I don't speak Hungarian very well". Or Nem nagyam beszelek magyarul. They say it once (at normal speaking rate!), give you time to register just how completely unprepared you are to repeat what you just heard and then they move on to the next phrase. I kid thee not. I would bet that sometimes as they were recording this stuff they found it hard not to laugh.
The third section does cover numbers and is probably the most useful section of the CD. One word at a time when learning this unique language is about right. I have a Hungarian neighbor and when she (w/ infinite patience) tries to teach me words, I usually require three or four attempts to get them right.
They are no sections devoted to individual pronouns, verbs, etc. There are sections (like the one on restaurants) where they give you individual words like plate, etc. Those are useful. The book is a necessity the first few times you listen to each section. The phonetic pronunciations are essential and help you to pick up on things like the Hungarian tendency to stress the first syllable. And the book helps you to pick up on individual words.
I guess that what I am saying is that this is not necessarily a bad product. It is certainly not what I would recommend to anyone that needs a quick intro to this language. When I find that product, I will review it.
Worth every Forint.......2007-04-09
I wouldn't wait for the flight, but I listened to these tapes for a couple of months on my commute before going to Hungary and it was very helpful. Some suggestions. It would be more helpful if you begin not just by listening, but by sitting down with the book and getting used to the written word. Then once familiar, listening can be more fruitful. I managed to master a few important phrases like Hello, yes, no, I don't speak Hungarian, do you speak English, excuse me, how much, where is.. and sorry. But if I could do it again, I would have made a more concerted effort to learn my numbers (at least to 5) and as much of the CD as possible. It is only one CD, but it covers a lot of material. I believe that if you memorized everything in the CD, you would do very well. Keep in mind that there is a fair amount of English used in Hungary, it seems to be the common language between all non-English tourists, but it helps to learn a little Magyar, and I wholeheartedly recommend this CD.
In-flight Hungaruab: :Learn Before You Land.......2006-11-14
Lousy: for example, they quickly give you the pronounciation (only once) and do not leave adequate time for you to consider what was just pronounced. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT FOR HUNGARIAN BECAUSE IT IS A VERY UNIQUE LANGUAGE.
I have tried othr In-flight languages and find them barely acceptable. If you already knew most of the words...they may be able to help you pronounce them...BUT only if the example was repeated a couple of times before going to the next word.
In-Flight Hungarian: Learn Before You Land.......2006-08-14
It's great! I learned quite a few Hungarian words in just a few days.
Basic & Elementry words to help you get by.......2006-03-31
20 page booklet, accompanied with a CD. This booklet contains the basic essential words/phrases you'll need to communicate, but I wish they had some more.
The CD is ok, but the Hungarian prases are being said a bit too fast, as such quite often you miss it, though, looking at the booklet at the same time can help a lot.
Overall, if you go to Hungary, this set (booklet & CD) can help you communicate using basic words. And the price is fair also.

Quite simply, it's just a crappy product........2007-07-19
I bought this tutorial after using and enjoying the Drive Time: Japanese set. Frankly, this series sucks. The main problem is that the speakers speak WAY too fast. It's not something that being comfortably familiar with the German pronunciation of letters will solve either. They just speak too quickly. It's as if you're eavesdropping in on a conversation between two people in Berlin which, for me, means I'm going to catch about every other word, if that. So, as an intro tutorial, it's just too fast. The narrator says you can learn from their CD's without any books or materials which is not true for me. If I didn't have the book to refer to, I'd never confidently learn some of these words b/c I wouldn't be able to see them spelled/written in order to discover what letters are making those words that they're flying through at 90 mph. The CD's would probably be good for an intermediate speaker who simply wants to practice HEARING German spoken as a native would speak it. For the beginner who only knows 'frankfurter' and 'kindergarten' and is just starting out, these are vastly more frustrating than they are helpful.
Not for beginners.......2007-05-30
I was very happy with disc 1. Each new word was repeated 3 times, each was spoken slowly and distinctly enough for a beginner, and each was used several times throughout the disc. There was plenty of time to repeat the words, phrases, and sentences. You were quizzed regularly, and the correct answer was given immediately afterward.
Today I played disc 2 and see no reason to ever try discs 3 and 4. You hear each new word, phrase, or sentence once. They are spoken at the rate a fluent German speaker would use. Although the instructions at the beginning of the disc say to repeat things as often as necessary, that is not only impractical, it would be dangerous to do while driving. There is so much new vocabulary and grammatical information that it is (for me, at least) impossible to remember. I could not even hear the words distinctly. How many words in that sentence? I have no idea because it's not possible to hear the words separately.
I listened to the entire disc, hoping that the beginning was only a sort of introduction and that the remainder would go back over things. It was a false hope. The disc is jammed full and quickly done. There are entire conversations that you are supposed to participate in after only one exposure to the content. Not only that, verbs are conjugated (once), and you must remember it all for use later.
If you have some exposure to the language already, are concurrently taking a class, or have a German-speaking friend or relative, this set would probably be a nice supplement and way to practice. But for a complete beginner, it is, in my opinion, frustrating and depressing. I feel as though I wasted my money.
Learn while sitting in traffic.......2007-05-14
This is a very good product, worth buying. You can definitely learn some language basics while sitting in your car.
Really helpful.......2007-03-16
I got so much out of these CDs that I gave mine away to my sister and bought myself some more. We are both using them in addition to a beginner German class we are taking. The CD does an excellent job of drilling in the pronounciation and vocabulary, and adding a few extra words or phrases along the way.
I don't know how this CD would work to teach someone who is starting from scratch who is doing absolutely no studying outside of listening to the CDs. But for someone who is doing a little bit of work, this is a fantastic way to reinforce what you are learning, get more exposure with the sounds of the language, and practice pronounciation and vocab. It's really a great program.

good, quick overview.......2007-09-08
Although you'll hardly speak Greek like a native after studying from this CD, you will be able to pronounce a number of polite phrases, order off of a menu, and ask directions. I question some of the content - you're not going to learn enough Greek to strike up a meaningful conversation with a native even after learning the "making friends" phrases - the CD does give enough information for a tourist.
Good CD, Bad Marketing.......2006-05-16
Living Language do a very good job making these CDs. Fast and Easy German and Fast and Easy Hungarian helped me immensely with my trips to eastern Europe, and In-Flight Greek has been working almost as well. I'll get to the "almost" in a bit.
When I say "bad marketing," I mean it's just plain stupid. You will not, I repeat, NOT be able to start listening to this CD when you get on the plane, and get off the plane able to speak Greek.
The way to actually learn from these CDs is to buy it a month or two ahead of time, and listen to the CD three or four times a week during your commute to work. As mentioned in other reviews, the CD is basically just a bunch of phrases spoken in English and Greek. They are broken into logical chapters like "Numbers," "Asking Directions," and "At the Restaurant." It comes with a booklet that has the phrases written phonetically, and also in Greek.
Whether this CD will work for you depends on how well you can listen to spoken sounds and reproduce them, and if you are good at recognizing patterns. After listening enough, you can infer some basic grammar by noting how words change in different sentences.
I would have given this four stars, but the main difference between this CD and the Fast and Easy ones I mentioned is that in this CD the greek phrase is spoken only once. It makes a big difference when you can hear a phrase, have time to try to say it yourself, and then hear it again. It sounds like a tiny fault, but I feel it's significant enough to cost a whole star. Of course, using a little program called Audacity and 30 minutes of free time, I doubled the phrases myself, but I shouldn't have to.
Learn by Listening to Phrases .......2005-05-22
This is basically a list of phrases first in English, then in Greek. Maybe if you knew some Greek and just wanted to refresh, this would work. It would have helped if the phrases had been repeated twice. Most phrases were so long, it was hopeless to even try to repeat them.
In-Flight Greek.......2001-10-09
Face it, airport delays notwithstanding, you won't become fluent in a foreign language on the way to your destination! However, I found this series (I also bought "In-Flight Italian") to be very useful for brushing up my language skills. I think the program is well-organized and covers just about every topic a vacationing traveler could want. Yes, they occasionally throw a very long sentence at you that you couldn't possibly hope to repeat, but they do supply you with a companion booklet with which you can read along.
In flight confusion.......2001-08-20
This is by far the worst language-related product I have ever purchased. This CD assumes that you can learn a language by memorizing long, complicated phrases by rote with no foundation whatsoever in vocabulary or grammar. It is just not possible to remember long setences relating to travel without first learning anything about the basic grammar of a language. The phrases aren't even repeated or broken down. This CD might be useful if you have already taken some modern Greek and want to brush up on travel phrases. Otherwise save your money -- most Greeks who work in airports and hotels speak English and this CD won't help you have much of a conversation with anyone who doesn't.
