5 out of 5 stars Constitution Review.......2005-10-17

This was a great book. It provided both facts and interesting tibits about the founders. I used it as a resource in my 5th grade inclusion social studies class and they found it both useful and informative.

4 out of 5 stars Good resource!.......2000-03-24

"They Signed the Constitution" by Elizabeth Levy has become an excellent resource for me to use in the classroom. I teach 7th grade social studies, and we spend 1 quarter of the year on government. My colleague and I have used most of this book for the past 3 years to supplement the rest of the material we use. We have also created a worksheet to be used with it. Students take turns reading aloud in class from this book. They find it easy to read and easy to understand, definitely not the dry textbook we're used to reading! I recommend this book for elementary and junior high teachers teaching government, as well as students looking for an easy way to understand part of our early American history.

One of the main themes of Pesach are the 4 questions that are askedÂ… but do not be mistaken, there are still many other questions to be asked and lessons to be learned! Joe Bobker addresses amusing and fascinating questions you never thought about or perhaps always wanted to ask, but never did! Have fun this Pesach, entertain and enlighten your guests around the Seder table. And You Thought There Were Only Four asks questions, such as: What's the connection between Pesach and the blood libel? Where in the Torah do we first read about the Exodus saga? How many Jews originally went to Egypt? Why did God need two messengers, Moses and Aaron? When we sing Pesach songs, are we singing the original tunes? How many chariots chased the Jews to the Red Sea? What was the duration of the plagues? What is the main purpose of Pesach? Is it OK to eat out on Pesach? Can I drink more than four cups of wine? Must I read the Haggada in Hebrew?

I loved this book. The pictures were breathtaking and the stories to go with them were inspiring. I could actually feel what the pictures were trying to convey and consequenttly some even made me cry. I highly recommend this book to everyone and will certainly be purchasing more by Neil Wilson and pictures by Ron Dicianni.

I purchased this book from someone through Amazon.com and the book is wonderful..It truly makes you feel like you are there with Jesus and seeing all the things that are described and the art work is so wonderful.

      5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2005-01-17

Ron DiCianni's art is very powerful. I stared at the picture on the cover alone for a long time during my devotional time. What makes it so strong, is that he mixes the historical Jesus with real life characters. When I look at the picture of the cross, I realize that *I'm* the one who nailed him to the cross. It was my sins that caused him to die. The picture on page 15 entitled Heaven's Loss is equally powerful. Here, an angel watches over the baby Jesus in the manger. When you look at the angel closely, though, you realize that the angel has a tear in his eye. While the angels probably didn't know God's full plan, this picture really captures how the birth of Jesus changed everything-including heaven. The stories that accompany the art are also outstanding--and well worth the purchase.

      Book Description

This book combines the psychological concept of acceptance with ancient Buddhist teachings about the chain of interdependent origination, which provides immediately usable tools for looking at how suffering happens and how to let that go. Stressing the theme of accepting what life brings, it reveals what acceptance is and what stands in the way of being able to accept life's ups and downs. Four steps for combating resistance are also provided.

5 out of 5 stars RECOMMENDING IT TO MY CLIENTS!.......2007-08-14

Cheri Huber has put into a clear, understandable book everything I've been trying to teach my psychotherapy clients. It's one of the books I've been recommending on a regular basis ever since I read it. It includes terrific information and motivational, workable suggestions for letting go of your destructive, self-limiting inner dialogue. Pamela D. Blair, Author The Next Fifty Years: A Guide for Women at Mid-Life And Beyond

5 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've ever read.......2007-06-15

I bought this book from Amazon a few years ago and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I keep referring to it again and again. This book never fails to make me feel better when I am low or when I am being hard on myself. The message is so simple - be your own best friend, realise that your family is not able to give you what you need (if they could, then they would have) and instead give yourself the love and nurturing that you missed out on as a child. The layout of this book makes it so easy to read and I love the narrative style, it's like having an old friend who is always on your side. By the way, I'm from England and purchased this book from the US, but the messages contained here are universal and applicable to us all. Only you can give yourself the love and acceptance you crave - buying this book is a great first step.

      5 out of 5 stars She's right!.......2007-03-05

I borrowed this book from a friend after I realized the committee of a**holes yammering in my head was anything but loving and compassionate. Somehow I had to learn to love myself. I signed up for a Debbie Ford telecourse (Love Beyond Belief--excellent course) and supplemented it with this book, and Be the Person You Want to Find, also by Cheri Huber. Both books are excellent but this is my favorite. It's simple, it's fun, it's brilliant. It got me back into meditating which has been wonderfully calming and enlightening. Reading this reminded me that it's not about what I do or become but about who I am BEing right now in this moment. I dont have to prove anything! I started taking notes as I read my borrowed copy and quickly realized I needed to buy my own copy and did. Now I can scribble in it and read it whenever I need a reality check. I can honestly say now, there is nothing wrong with me! I also plan to read The Depression Book since I have been thru some depressions in the past and believe it is hereditary in my family. These books are good medicine. Since taking the Debbie Ford course and reading Cheri's books I have been able to wean completely off the Lexipro antidepressant I'd been taking for over a year. I feel great and my libido is coming back from the dead. Thank you Cheri!!

5 out of 5 stars Don't be deceived by what appears to be simple, Cheri's simple approach is extremely powerful and effective.......2007-02-26

Cheri Huber is an excellent speaker and author. I have read most of her books and I always get a lot out of them. In fact, I frequently recommend them to my clients because they are simple, straightforward and easy to relate to. They are written in an upbeat fasion and they get practical very quickly.

Cheri Huber is actually a founder of a Zen monastery and a big advocate of sitting still and listening to the wisdom within. Her general approach is to get quiet and experience the layers that are beneath the everyday mental chatter. She advocates staying with difficult emotions including shame and approaching your areas of discomfort with love and compassion.

Krishamurti once said, "Seeing the truth deeply is what liberates, not your efforts to be free." I suspect Cheri would add that what limits your ability to see deeply so that shame and self-hatred unravels is self compassion. Without this quality of acceptance, inevitably defense mechanisms will kick up.

This booka and many of Cheri's other books combine the insights of Buddhism with some cognitive therapy techniques. This particularly evident in her Self Acceptance course which I highly recommend as an accompaniment to this book.

You really can't go wrong with any of Cheri Huber's books. They are filled with compassion, practical wisdom and are characterized by a simple, direct and powerful way of moving through the world.

5 out of 5 stars If you are reading this consider yourself one of the lucky ones- You have disovered gold- The end of suffering........2006-11-23

Over my the past ten years, I have done a great amount of reading, research and soul searching in the effort to find treatment to my OCD, anxiety disorders, depression, blocks ETC. I have been to many psychologists "specializing" in anxiety disorders. I have established relationships with the top and most cutting edge specialists in the field of the treatment of anxiety disorders.
The common denominator that the world of psychology is just starting to understand is that these disorders are, in truth, just the tip of the iceberg of a deep seated rejection of self. The ONLY way to end the living hell of a life full of anxiety is acceptance. Acceptance is the key. A deep comprehensive acceptance of self. The "new wave" of the psychology world is just beginning to get it.
Cheri Huber's book is a very important and fun read to get the basics of the dynamics of the root to these disorders. What is important to understand is that the ideas given over in this book are the same ideas that people are paying $250.00 an hour to hear from the top-anxiety disorder therapists in the country. I recommend buying this book and doing some more Amazon searches under "self-acceptance" and beginning a library to educate yourself on these fundamental truths. If you are among one of the lucky ones-You will begin a life changing process of self restoration, one of spontaneity, intimacy, and life.

"In the Passion of Jesus we hear the story of one person but the echoes of many," writes Erik Kolbell, "for although we read it to find out who Jesus was, it is in the reading of those other characters that we find out who we are." Perfect for the Lenten season or throughout the year, "Were You There?" provides thoughtful meditations about Peter, the slave whose ear is severed, Judas, the woman who annointed Jesus, Pilate, Herod, Simon of Cyrene, the centurion at the cross, Joseph of Arimathea, Mary, and many others.

Our seven year old son read this book quickly and enjoyed it a great deal. He only likes to read non-fiction and this book had substanitally more text than pictures, which is not usual in non-fiction books aimed at this age range. The book contained lots of information about life in Spain in the Middle Ages that I did not know, including some challenging information about the Spanish Inquisition and the treatment of Jews by the Spaniards of that period.

4 out of 5 stars At Last a Contemporary Commentary!.......2007-06-14

I was asked to lead a mediation on the Stations for 20 Episcopal church women. In my research I found only one other female source. The "other" was archaic as all get out. Diana is fresh, totally in touch with today's world, women's needs and strengths! The illustrations were a powerful accompaniment.

          5 out of 5 stars Lenten meditations.......2000-04-26

"Were You There?: Stations of the Cross," set in an African village, is a book of insightful Lenten meditations by theologian Diana L. Hayes. Accompanying the prayers and reflections are paintings by Tanzanian artist Charles S. Ndege who incorportates typical scenes along the shores of Lake Victoria to add impact to his powerful images. Impressive work. Marcia Maguire, UMC church librarian
