A Good and Encouraging Challenge to Witness .......2004-12-24
Robinson has written an excellent title encouraging Christians to witness without gimmicks or manipulation.
The book is divided into 3 main sections with several chapters in each section:
1. You Have Been Empowered to Share Jesus.
2. You Have Been Entrusted to Share Jesus.
3. You Can Be Equipped to Share Jesus.
The book is an excellent encouragement for Christians to witness in the Spirit without being manipulative. However, if you are looking for a title with more specific information on what to present when witnessing, I would recommend books on FAITH or Evangelism Explosion. It just depends on what you're looking for.
Despite this, I still recommend the book.
A very useful evangelism tool.......2002-10-16
We used this book in a Personal Evangelism class in Seminary. I have to say that I found it very easy to follow, and yet it contains all of the elements needed for evangelism.
Unlike some Evangelism books, which require groups or trained leaders to use them properly, this book was written to be used by a single person to learn more about evangelism.
It is a book designed to help you larn to bring others to a knowledge of Jesus Christ, and as such it is excellent.
Not what I thought it would be.......2002-07-30
I thought this would suggest a more "sensitive" approach to sharing religious beliefs for those who "feel guilty, stressed and awkward" about it, as the back cover says. Unfortunately, this is just another pitch for proselytizing. Therefore, I have to say that maybe there is a good reason many Christians feel guilty, stressed and awkward about that. They know, deep down, that it is wrong and that it is contradictory to the concept and meaning of religious freedom.
Religious freedom is not license to try to impose your beliefs upon others (even subtly). It is freedom to believe in God as an Evangelical or a Unitarian Christian, a Freemason, a Buddhist, a Sufi, a Hindu, or whatever, without having someone try to convince you that you're wrong.
As Thomas Jefferson said,"Our particular principles of religion are a subject of accountability to God alone. I inquire after no man's, and trouble none with mine."
Thomas Jefferson also said: "Religion is a subject on which I have ever been most scrupulously reserved. I have considered it as a matter between every man and his Maker in which no other, and far less the public, had a right to intermeddle."
I think Jefferson had the right idea, and the sooner we put a halt to all religious bigotry and establish real religious freedom, the sooner we will have a country where we are indeed all equal.
This book gives Christians a guideline for winning souls.......1999-09-10
This book is written in a way that it is easy for any christian to read.It is written in a way that may seem to some to be too simple. But if people are still dying and going to hell we are doing something wrong. It is time that we as christians get back to the basics. We need to regain that joy that we lost in telling people about Jesus Christ. It is time we realize that this is not just some game we are playing, and after it is over we can all just go home. How selfish have we become to think that it is not our responsibility to tell people about Jesus. It is time we opened our eyes to the big picture and share the love of Jesus to a lost and dying world.
Book Description
Bruce Barton's 1925 effort to reconfigure Jesus for the Roaring Twenties turned into one of the great best-sellers of the century. No Puritan or Prohibitionist, here was Christ as the world's first advertising man, a great business executive who picked up twelve men from the bottom ranks of business and forged them into an organization that conquered the world. In his Introduction, Richard M. Fried explores the book's rich insights into the culture of the 1920s.

Consider reading the pre-Y2K version.......2007-08-15
I've read my very old copy of this book so many times that I decided to order a new copy. But looking at the reviews on this site, I was really puzzled and disappointed by the reviews comparing Jesus to a businessman and insurance salesman, and so much emphasis on business. I had never gotten that message from the text.
Then I saw the subtitle on the year 2000 printing of the book -"The Classic Account of Jesus as Business Entrepreneur." Huh? The original book doesn't have a subtitle. Even the chapter headings have been changed: Retitled from "The Leader" to "The Executive"; from "His Work and Words" to "His Advertisements"; from "His Way in Our World" to "The Founder of Modern Business." From the exerpt on the website, it looks like the text is the same, but the context has been changed. The publishers have reframed it. sad to say.
The original book describes the Jesus of the Bible as a man. An extraordinary man. A man people would follow. A man people would die for. And Barton's book tells us why.
Barton's book will enrich your life -- maybe even change it. And if you're a worshipper, your prayers and songs will take on new meaning.
I give the 5-star rating to Barton's original book, and a 1 to whoever decided to reframe it for the watercooler.
Barton is genius.......2006-07-05
This book was ingenius. The perspective from which Barton wrote was original and refreshingly delightful. I'd recommend it to everyone.
Finally, The Truth About Jesus's Idea Of Wealth Is Revealed.......2006-01-23
One of the greatest falsehoods about the message of Jesus has been exposed..He was not against wealth, he was against the worship of wealth...Certainly Joesph of Aramthenia (please forgive the spelling) and Nicodemus were men of great wealth and were loved and accepted by Jesus.
When he told the rich young man to sell all that he had and said that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven he was talking about possessions of ego and self importance..
Look at those who God chose to carry his message..Abraham, David, Soloman, Jacob, etc..none of them would have qualified for the food stamp program.
Finally, revealing the 'Jesus Business Plan', Barton points out that to be successful in business, love, and life..One must be a SERVANT..Ford 'served' us with transportation, Edison with light, Bell with communication, Disney with fantasy..Choose what you want to 'recieve' and then GIVE IT AWAY..A lesson for the ages.
Astonishing this chestnut is still around.......2005-04-11
The notion that Jesus' values were those of corporate America and his "charisma" of the sort that makes insurance salemen is so laughably a fantasy that I hope the other reviews are meant as jokes. Portraying Jesus as a "booster," a kind of successful Willy Loman, is about as ludicrous as picturing Mother Teresa as a fashion model and Gandhi as a comic book superhero. The Jesus of the New Testament would have observed the conspicuous consumption of corporate America, the cultural gluttony of the Western World, with sadness and disgust.
Jesus may be the ultimate Rorschach. We look at him: Nazis see a blue-eyed Aryan beset by Jews and look for somebody to beat up; gays see their lifestyle affirmed in the friendhip with John; chickenhawk warriors somehow see endorsement of the hateful causes they want others to die for; the tenderhearted and compassionate see him surrounded by happy children; feminists see the women by his side; lying hypocrites see... God knows what.
The hardest thing for humans to do is to comprehend that their heroes are not just big versions of themselves. A hero should be something to push against, not a self-endorsement. Jesus told the rich to give away their money. He told his followers not to gather up treasures in the world. He said wealth is a burden that will keep the rich out of Heaven. He scourged the moneylenders. He was a freeloader. He is bad for business.
Today, as the most affluent country on the planet, we hear the Christian message as unhappily as the young wealthy Hebrew who asked Jesus what he must do to be saved. His answer was NOT "get an MBA." But instead of walking away, we invent new myths of a Jesus more suitable, one able to see past his silly prejudice against money grubbers, to see that it is possible to be rich and really nice.
Barton's book is a bizarre anachronism; a last survivor of the Babbitt years of pious Philistinism and Pharisaic self-approval just before the Depression turned our complacent cultural narcissism upside down. How sad, that it's coming back into fashion. Read Jim Wallis' *God's Politics* for a theology less absorbed with self-justification.
A must read for everyone........2004-11-09
A truely inspired masterpiece. The life of Jesus has been beaten down by modern preaching and evangelists who portray him as a woe-is-me, suck-up-the-pain cuz I have to, pitiful man. Where in reality he must have been a most charismatic man full of warmth, laughter, and life - the kind every one wants to be around. The author makes his points powerfully forever changing the way I look at Jesus and his life. This book is a must read. I am so glad I came across the book. I promise you will not be disappointed. It is interesting, enlightening, well written, and inspirational; and it is short and easy to read. Have I convinced you yet?

I Stand by this book.......2007-06-22
STAND is fun to read book that explains the core truths of Christianity. It's a 125 page tract that succinctly tells teens what the non-negotiables of the faith are. This friendly book can help teens appreciate Jesus' life, death, and resurrection in a profound way.
Solid.......2007-03-31
A very solid book for any teen wanting to go deeper in their faith and for anyone who wants to teach teens to go deeper.

Book Description
This modern spiritual classic by Frank Sheed, the renowned author, publisher and lecturer, is brought back into print for the benefit of new generations of readers to develop a deeper, more profound knowledge of Jesus Christ. Sheed's concern with the Gospels is to come to know Christ as he actually lived among us, interacted with all the various people he encountered from his infancy to his passion and death--the God-man who was like us in all things except sin. Sheed has tried especially to see Our Lord in his effect upon others--seeing how they saw him, trying to see why they saw him so. There is much about Mary and Joseph in their task of bringing up a baby who was literally adorable; about John the Baptist; about Mary of Bethany and Mary Magdalen; about Nicodemus; about people we meet only for a moment, like the man born blind and the owners of the drowned swine; and why the Pharisees, not only the worst of them but some of the best, would not accept Christ.

no better guide to the gospels.......2007-06-13
This book provides the best gospel commentary/reflection known to man.
For every gospel story, this book has a thorough look at the passage along with comments on related passages. This book is well-written and easy to read. You can skip from chapter to chapter, or just read from start to finish.
Though it is easy to read, the material is dense. I've re-read this book 3 times and I'm still getting new stuff from it.
There are few books that I will *specifically* require my children to read. This is one of them. (Though I guess I'll have to wait 'til the kids are about 15-16.)
Almost like a fifth Gospel.......2007-05-12
Frank Sheed takes the four Gospels and brings them together masterfully into one volume. Great explanations of the times and customs surrounding the events also. A must read along with Fulton Sheen's Life of Christ.
To know Jesus Christ.......2007-05-07
You should think you know everything about the life of Christ. try to read this book, and you'll see you have lots to learn. I think it is a really interesting book.
wonderful!.......2007-03-21
I loved Frank Sheed's Theology for Beginners, and he's now my favorite Catholic author, so I knew that this would be good. I was right. His writing style feels slightly antiquated yet easy to understand. He includes smatterings of theology at just the right moments, includes lots of relevant research and archeaology yet never assumes he knows for sure something that isn't absolutely certain, and makes a great fusion of history and personal emotion. I very highly recomment this book.
I'd like to share it with everyone.......2007-01-29
This book brings all the disparate pieces of the 4 gospels and some of the epistles together in a way that allows you to follow Jesus progressively through life, and illuminates the Savior, his life and times, his actions, and his decisions. At the same time, you never need to fear that the author is presenting his own ideas as Jesus'. He is very clear about that, and provides chapter and verse for each point he makes.
This was exactly what I was looking for, for many years. I hope others find this book as wonderful as I did.
So far every book by F.J. Sheed has been great! Theology for Beginners was also a wonderful book--easy to read, and very illuminating!

christmas at its best.......2007-04-22
The words to this song is the story of the real Christmas. Such a talented man is Mark Lowry. I understand that it is the only song he ever wrote...with one like this one, who needs another one!
Mary Did you Know? (with audio CD).......2007-01-18
I bought this for myself and then went back and ordered more for Christmas gifts. Everyone who received it has commented on the story and the music. It is also a special treat for me to listen to every Christmas season. I just love it.
No Christmas is complete without this!.......2006-11-25
This CD and book is THE most beautiful and meaningful gift I've ever received. My husband heard the song on the radio and went searching for it at music store where he found the Mark Lowry book/CD. I couldn't stop crying the first time I heard it. To read the birth of Christ through the eyes of His mother, the most Holy Theotokos, brings a new perspective to this great and holy holiday. I encourage everyone reading this review to purchase one for yourself and one for someone you love.
4 Time Bereaved Mother Soothed.......2006-02-19
I fell in love with this song one Christmas Eve midnight mass years ago. I have since lost my newborn triplet daughters and my 9 year old daughter Emily. I then found this book at a resale shop and read it one night while having trouble with my grief. I cried. The book was very helpful and remembering that Mary is a bereaved parent helped me with my own pain.
The PERFECT Christmas gift!.......2005-09-30
This is an exquisite jewel of a gift, suitable for just about everyone on your list! The CD is performed by the composer of this most beautiful Christmas song and the book which houses it is beautifully done with illustrations and prose that will remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas. Plus, the modest price makes it possible to buy one for all the special people on your list!
Book Description
A sense of comfortable familiarity with the Savior can cloud people’s vision–and even prevent them from drawing closer to Jesus as he really is. His titles and descriptions are heard so often that it’s easy to miss the impact of their true meaning. Even the name Jesus is so well known that it has lost much of its power in believers’ lives.
But now Jesus Revealed reintroduces readers to the true Son of God, helping them see him with clear vision, so that they can love him more fully and follow him more completely Readers will be surprised and delighted as they get to know the Jesus whose face is clearly revealed through the titles God gave him and the names used for him by his earliest followers.
In these pages, readers will encounter a Jesus who surprises and unsettles, who comforts and empowers, in astonishingly authentic ways. Each chapter focuses on one aspect of Jesus’ identity–such as Rabbi, Son of Man, Light of the World. As pastor and scholar Mark Roberts explores what’s behind each of these titles, he brings insight into the theological and historical meanings, and then relates them to life today.
Readers will travel back to first-century Palestine, meet the God-man we know as Jesus, and experience a soul-changing encounter with him. Because to know him is to love him.
Customer Reviews:
A humbling and inspiring book.......2007-08-14
I learned of Mark D. Roberts when reading his response to Christopher Hitchens' screed against God. It prompted me to want to read more from Dr. Roberts, and I started with this. It is a humble book that examines Jesus' roles in our lives: as rabbi, prophet, the Holy One of God, the Son of Man, the Messiah, the Savior, the Lord, the son of God, the word of God and the Light of the World. Each role is discussed thoroughly, yet in a tone that is as conversational as your favorite pastor. It should inspire Christians to know Jesus more, and love Him more deeply.
A great read on Jesus.......2003-07-03
Today's growing interest in all things spiritual has resulted in all kinds of books about Jesus--many of which are simply wrong. This book corrects errors, not so much by attacking them specifically as by carefully showing the reader the many dimensions of who this amazing person Jesus is. The topic is deep and the author is a brilliant scholar so one should expect to be dazzled. You will, but in the end I found it is the subject--Jesus--who dazzles most brightly.
Dr. Mark Roberts has systematically set out who Jesus is, presenting the best scholarship in this well-footnoted book. And he does this in a way that interlaces serious theological insights with captivatingly folksy illustrations--a conversation with his little daughter reveals deep theological truths. We are lead through detailed aspects of the many-faceted Jesus, yet the teaching is easy to follow.
But the Jesus the author presents is not found solely in facts. Rather, as the title suggests, Mark provides information so you can know someone who will capture your heart and your mind. And challenge you to a life radically different from today's culture, one in harmony with God's plan for a more abundant life.
Other than the New Testament, I can't recommend a better read today by which to know Jesus better.
A great help for understanding Jesus.......2003-06-10
Considering this book was written by a guy who got his undergrad B.A. in philosophy and religion at Harvard and a Phd. in New Testament at Harvard, you'd think that this would be a liberal perspective on Jesus. However, this is a very inspiring look at Jesus, his claims, and his purpose through the eyes of an evangelical preacher and scholar. In addition to some profound points, he also brings out the simple points that we often overlook, and he does so in a fresh manner. While this isn't a ground-breaking account of Jesus, it is a much needed one for those of us who want to understand the Jesus who lives today and not just the "historical" Jesus.
Customer Reviews:
Concise, yet comprehensive. Will fascinate you!.......2000-05-08
As with all the booklets in Muncaster's "Examine the Evidence" series, this booklet packs a powerful punch of highly compelling and abundant evidence that the Bible must have been divinely inspired. Excellent concise, yet comprehensive presentation. The booklet size makes the content quickly digestable (and skeptical friends may be more likely to actually read it.)
Customer Reviews:
super book for anyone thinking about marriage.......2007-08-06
This book is good for anyone who is in a relationship and trying to decide if the person they are with is someone they want to get serious with. But its also good for someone not in an relationship who wants to learn what they should be looking for in a potential mate. The book delves into the real purpose of dating and why its important and how good dating leads to good marriage. This especially important to us LDS people who believe that marriage is eternal so the decision is even more important. Its obvious to me that Brother McIntosh has spent many years working with young single adults and the problems of dating and marriage. His advice is wisdom everyone should have.
Sound Advice..and a good read.......2004-09-18
I enjoyed this book and have added it to my collection. I would also recommend, "300 Questions Every LDS Couple Should Ask Before Marriage" and all of Dr. Laura Schlessinger's books!
Best Practical Guide on Courtship and Marriage.......2002-10-10
This is the most practical guide I have read on the subject of courtship for LDS young people. It explodes many myths and lays the groundwork for reasoned decision-making. Most of all, it keeps Christ in the mix and proposes a marriage that is bound to be stable over the years.
Great book.......2002-09-06
This book was a great help to me when I was going through the process of deciding whether to marry my boyfriend or not. It helped me to define what love really is and how much you need of it to marry. It covers everything from before courtship to engagement. The engagement questions asked are great. They make a realistic discussion of married life very objective. They are wonderful discussion starters for engaged couples to talk about kids, finances, household duties, etc. I highly recommend this book and everyone that I have told to read it have liked it too.
Great Book for LDS Youth.......2001-08-31
I think all LDS youth should read this book before and during the courtship process. I gave a copy to my daughter at BYU she read it and passed it on to several friends. Several people have commented to her on how it helped them break off relationships that needed to be and helped them through the healing process afterwards. The Author does a good job of organizing and presenting the information in a non preachy manner while emphasising the importance of becoming the type of person you would want to fall in love with.

People teens admire talk about God.......2007-04-13
Author Amy Hammond Hagberg wanted to help teens--her own and others--answer questions about God, including the big question: "How do you know he's real?"
Hagberg wrote to sports stars, recording artists and other celebrities, asking them to reflect on their life experiences and share how the reality of God was making a difference to them personally and professionally. The responses she received--from NBA players, Christian musicians, 'American Idol' contestants and others--are honest, revealing, and often compelling.
The resulting book is a collection of celebrity essays: mini-bios that focus on the reality of God in the midst of media attention, success and failure, and broken relationships. Contributors include Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic basketball team, quarterback David Carr of the Houston Texans, and popular Christian recording artist Clay Crosse.
Some of the interviews are especially helpful for Hagberg's original target readers: teens. Among these, Chrissy Conway of 'Zoe Girl' talks about her parents' divorce, the party scene, and the twists and turns along her personal career path in ways that connect with teens and with anyone who has ever considered attempting a career in music.
Hagberg is a gifted and skilled writer who keeps readers turning the pages as she unpacks celebrity affirmations of the presence of God in their lives. A great gift book for readers from teens through Gen X, but the stories here will interest readers of any age!
Note: Reviewer Dr. David Frisbie is an author and Executive Director of The Center for Marriage & Family Studies in Del Mar, California.
Armchair Interviews says: Anything that can help teens understand their role in living a good life is good.
Celebrities share their faith.......2007-03-11
This is an ideal book to give to people who have questions about becoming a Christian, and who love sports and music celebrities.
44 extreme sports and music celebrities tell their stories in this book, from Jonny Lang (recording artist), to Barlow Girl (rock group), Kimiko Soldati (Olympic diving), CJ Hobgood (surfer), Dwight Howard (NBA player, Orlando Magic), Mick Hannah (downhill mountain bike racer), Jimmie McGuire (professional motocross rider) and more.
They share hard times they faced, how they became Christians and how their paths are more joyful due to their faith. Being a Green Bay Packer fan I turned to Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila's story of growing up in South Central Los Angeles with a tough background, a Muslim dad and a Christian mom, and how his becoming a Christian led to his current happy family life and NFL career. Christian Hosoi, professional skateboarder, after serious drug problems, is now leading a skateboarding ministry.
The two page "God's Road Map" at the end of each celebrity's story contains perceptive questions and Scriptures. Sports and music lovers will enjoy this book, and it can even be a "past watchful dragons book" that will steer doubting people on a new clear path.
god unplugged.......2007-02-02
God Unplugged by Ammy Hagberg was very interesting. It is 403 pages long and was published in 2006 by Destiny Image. In the story top athletes, musicians, and also stars tell how god helped them get where they wanted to be and changed their lives.
In the story there were 44 celebrity reflections on true life experiences with god. Many of these celebrities have been extremely low in their lives and god has pulled them out of them. Also in some cases they have had no luck in there lives and finally achieved their goals after they gave there lives god. All of these people believe that god has either given them opportunities or even the strength to work through where they were to get to where they want to be.
I thought that this was a good book. I enjoyed reading it and seeing how god has changed all of these people's lives. The strengths of this book are that it has top named celebrities that people actually want to read about. The weakness of this book is that there is nothing to find out nest so you don't have a reason to keep reading. I did like how god actually gave them the strength to continue and succeed in life. The writing was very boring to me, but I liked the idea.
The book gave a lasting effect on me because I have a saint Christopher necklace that my grandma gave to me before she passed away and that keeps me safe when I race motorcross. So, I think that god has a great power on us. I would recommend this book, it will make you think.
After reading this, you certainly KNOW he is real!.......2007-01-25
Truly, this, and the book before this, are really awesome books!
** Why?
Because they give some very good insights into other peoples way to God. Not only that, if you don't know the Bible inside and out (and even if you do, actually!), there are quotations from the Bible explaining the why and hows, depending on the story of the person interviewed.
All this, with Amy Hagbergs very nice way of writing (down to earth serious mixed with a nice blend of humor) makes this book a pleasure to read!
Personally, I strongly recommend this book to everyone. It might be those who Seek, or those who have found, it doesn't matter, in my opinion! :)
Fantastic book!.......2007-01-24
What a great book! Amy Hagberg has gathered some of today's biggest sports and music celebs to talk about how they know God is real. This book is in stark contrast to so many of today's depressing, tragedy-focused headlines. And the list of celebrities is impressive! [...]
